23 Feb 2025 | Revisited | Charlotte Alexander | It Won't Happen Over Night. But If You Quit, It Won't Happen | 01:07:14
Is it perseverance or is it insanity? It depends on your mindset, it depends on your reason, it depends on what you value…
Everything lies on a spectrum and often there are two key ways of viewing something.
In this episode international runner and now Triathlon Olympic Pathway athlete, Charlotte Alexander, joins the podcast. And one more thing, she also works a full-time job in a fast paced lab environment.
Charlotte is a very naturally talented athlete, who found herself on national teams and in GB vests from a young age. However, after several years of dealing with major injuries, including multiple stress fractures for a surprising reason; she found herself falling below of what she new she was capable of. Although Charlotte since made her way back to the top again, she began to find the energy she was putting in was not longer matching her expectations.
Although Charlotte had and still has a bright running future, she decided to take a risk and dive into something completely new and take up triathlon. Not only this, but she also decided to move to a new city and start a new job working full-time.
This episode provides lots of food for thought as Charlotte shows courage by trusting her gut and leaning into what she knows is right for her. In the episode we discuss around balance and decision making, and how sporting choices fit into daily life.
As always lots of to be empowered and inspired from.

07 May 2023 | S1-E12 || Dr Hannah Stoyel || Gain Control of your mind - Unleash your true potential || Optimise Potential | 01:15:39
Is it really your mind which is preventing you achieve your potential? ** contact information below Are you stuck in that 'half recovery' phase following an eating disorder? Do you have disordered eating? Are you struggling produce the race result you know you are capable of? Is life making it tough for you to find the headspace to train? Are nerves getting in the way? Not sure you look or feel like an 'athlete'? The brain and the power of the brain are immense and so often forgotten about and overlooked in sport. Recently athlete mental health has made a surge in terms of importance, but lets dive into what is behind this! The brain, the mind, how you control you! So many athletes are missing out on achieving their true potential because they don't know how to engage their mind in the right way. As athletes we are trying to push ourselves as hard as we can, but without a 'real threat'. But our bodies are smart, or at least still tuned into our cave man days - they don't randomly want to expend energy, and this is where sports psychology comes in. To race your best you have to be in a good place in both your personal and athlete life, and you have to be in the right mindset as soon as your toe touches that line. But how do you do this? This week I am joined by the super highly qualified and experienced Dr Hannah Stoyel who has her own practice - Optimise Potential - THE TEAM | London, England | Optimise Potential (optimisepotentialsport.com)Dr Hannah Stoyel (Cooper), MSc, CPsychol, HCPC Founder and Director of Optimise Potential. Does the festive periods stress your inner athlete? There has been a fair bit of attention around the stress and anxiety the festive period can cause to training. So I thought I'd share this experience and journey in a little Christmas themed bonus episode. In this episode I sit down with my sister to talk around my experience of being an athlete and Christmas. I share my past mindset around the topics of training and food at Christmas and where I am now and my thoughts and reflections on it all. My sister brings in some runner outsider perspectives and her thoughts and reflections as someone very close to me. Big shout out to her for joining the pod today! M11 Track Club's Ava Lloyd joins the podcast to share her journey to her success over the past season. Although despite some very impressive PB's and a lot of success this year it has not been plane sailing and rainbows for Ava. Like many, Ava battled with several years of the dreaded 'Runners Plateau', before coming out the other side. In her case this was a result of her changing body, something which many teenage girls struggle with and could be a reason in the high drop out rates of girls in the sport. 02 Mar 2025 | S5 - The New Generation || Olivia Forrest || Hopes Not Expectations | 01:01:41
Today GB junior, SIAB, English Schools, Inter-counties, and 2024 National, cross country champion Olivia Forrest from Brentwood Beagles joins the podcast. Still only an U17, Olivia has already had huge amounts ofsuccess within the sport, both domestically, and internationally. However, like an athlete her journey is not without challenge, which she is currently encountering and talks openly about in this episode. Olivia’s journey so far shows the power of a good mindset, supportive training environment, and all- in approach. It also highlights the very real challenges that female athletes encounter, especially around the U17 years where many of female athletes experience the plateau and dip as their bodies change as a result of puberty. Olivia is definitely part of the younger generation of juniortalent, who maybe as a result of new research and the generations above talking more openly about their health and journeys, seem to have their heads screwed on a good way around. Olivia demonstrates that being well- informed about her health, training, and playing the long-game can have positive impacts on navigating setbacks and hopefully working to prevent burn-out and drop out rates. Olivia has a more unique set up being coached by her dad and having a very team-centred approach. She also shares some of her big goals and ambitions, how she works on her weaknesses, and what the opportunities brought to her so far by running mean to her. A lovely episode which provides a fresh young perspectiveand is a definite must listen for any junior athletes, or those involved with them.

What do you do when life catapults you lemons? Instagram @charlottealexander._ @fitterfasterhappier Despite doing everything right, sometimes life just sends you up the long bendy road - so how do you deal with this? Charlotte is a very talented runner who has competed for both Great Britain and England. She has competed in the World and European championships, and received her first England vest before she even started training for running. Injuries are every runner or athletes nightmare. They stop you doing what you love, and prevent you from succeeding even when you are willing to put in all the work. Charlotte has been faced with more than her fair share of injuries over the years, including around 6 stress fractures and most recently severe plantar fasciitis - which took her out for the past year. In particular her huge susceptibility to stress fractures despite not suffering from RED-S or a nutritional deficiency and only running 19 miles a week, left herself and professionals searching for a while before she got answers. Despite having been through countless cycles of injury, Charlotte is now back and running. Not only is she back, but she is running more than she has ever been able to, and has a very strong mindset. In this episode Charlotte shares her story, and the tips and knowledge she has gained along the way. She talks about the emotional rollercoaster of being beaten down by injuries, but also the ways in which she got through these times and how the challenges she has overcome have helped to make her the strong athlete she is today.
