04 Sep 2019 | Star Trek: The Motion Picture | 00:56:01
Here’s something novel - a podcast where two white guys talk about science fiction movies!
Matt and Luke start at the beginning with a little bit of good old fashioned Star Trek.
| |||
18 Sep 2019 | Spider-Man (2002) | 00:49:26
This was recorded a while before even the first hints of the Marvel/ Sony
news, so don’t expect any discussion of that. Instead, you get some Spidey
fanboying from Luke, some unexpected Sam Raimi trivia from Matt and lots of
Willem Dafoe love.
| |||
02 Oct 2019 | Logan's Run | 00:59:59
Here’s the film our podcast is kind of named after. Matt’s watched it hundreds of times, but doesn’t know what Tinder is. Luke watches it for the first time but has been rejected on Tinder many a time.

09 Oct 2019 | Bonus Episode: Firefly Episode 01: Serenity | 00:57:26
Hello friends! Here’s a little bonus to keep you amused between episodes.This was originally recorded as the first in our Firefly podcast, Brown Pants. Unfortunately we lost the recordings of episodes 2 and 3. Then we kind of gave up on making a Firefly podcast and made this podcast instead.Next week: We get to the juicy stuff and actually cover Serenity (the feature length movie that comes after the TV series, not the feature length pilot before the series).Don’t forget to rate and review on iTunes, follow on Twitter, tell your pals.
| |||
16 Oct 2019 | Serenity | 00:59:09
We’re finally doing it. Skipping the foreplay and getting right into Joss Whedon’s cinematic directorial debut: Serenity. Spoiler alert, we really bloody like it.

30 Oct 2019 | Transformers (1986) | 00:49:36
21 Years before Megan Fox and Shia Lebouf starred in Transformers, Leonard Nimoy and Orson Welles starred in . . . Transformers. Matt was alive in the 80s and Luke bloody loves Transformers, so get ready for some dumb chat about a very dumb film.
| |||
06 Nov 2019 | The Terminator | 01:03:28
This week, we’re talking about legitimately one of the greatest films ever made, and a personal favorite of both Matt and Luke. Plus, it stars the greatest actor of all time: Arnold Schwarzenegger. If you want to check out the Terminator knock-off Matt made when he was 12, you can find that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OUWeQ_hC_s Don’t forget to rate and review on iTunes, follow on Twitter, tell your pals.

12 Nov 2019 | X-Men: Dark Phoenix | 00:59:21
Hey look! We’re talking about a film released this year. We can occasionally be relevant when we put our minds to it. This one was pretty unanimously derided when it came out, but Matt and Luke think there’s a little more discussion to be had than that.
| |||
21 Nov 2019 | Terminator: Dark Fate | 01:04:22
Our newest film yet! We recorded this one right after leaving the cinema, so it’s something a little new and different for us. The episode is divided into three parts: first, there’s totally spoiler-free chat about the film’s quality. Then we get into the themes of the film. Finally, we deal with some specific moments and details.
| |||
27 Nov 2019 | Metropolis | 01:25:15
Here’s quite possibly the very first science fiction feature film. It’s a classic, a masterpiece, a touchstone and lots of other words that mean it’s very old and very important, but how is it as a film? Listen and find out!

04 Dec 2019 | Star Wars- The Holiday Special | 00:55:57
We’re having a bit of a Star Wars month here in the Sci-Fi Sanctuary, preparing ourselves for the end of the saga when the Rise of Skywalker hits us at the end of the month. For now we’re . . . enjoying? . . . the most seasonal of the Star Wars films.
| |||
12 Dec 2019 | Star Wars - The Phantom Menace | 01:16:37
Okay, we covered a shit film for Star Wars month but now we’re getting stuck into some legit, canonical, George Lucas Star Wars. This should be good, right? Right?
| |||
18 Dec 2019 | Star Wars - The Last Jedi | 01:24:47
Star Wars Month Continues! We’re gonna get controversial in this one because we’re getting properly stuck into Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Guess what: we bloody love it!
| |||
24 Dec 2019 | Star Wars - The Rise of Skywalker | 01:30:58
Oh Star Wars,
Nothing but Star Wars,
Give me those Star Wars,
Don't let them end.
Oh Star Wars,
If they should bar wars,
Please let these Star Wars
Stay.
| |||
24 Dec 2019 | Galaxy Quest | 01:03:22
Matt thinks this is not only a solid sci-fi, but one of the best (defacto) Trek films. Luke thought this was just a comedy to quote, but now he's looking at geek fan culture then and now. Could you make this movie today?
| |||
07 Jan 2020 | King Kong (1933) | 01:07:32
It’s the big daddy of the (non-Japanese) monster movies and Luke has been chomping at the bit to chat about it. Meanwhile, Matt watched it long ago in film school. Hear us beat our chests at the gates of Skull Island!!!
| |||
15 Jan 2020 | 2001: A Space Odyssey | 01:11:11
Matt and Luke get deep into the underpinnings of this very slow, but
transcendental sci-fi classic by Stanley Kubrick. Do we let Dave in the pod
doors, or just spin Pink Floyd on vinyl? Listen and learn.
Don’t forget to rate and review on iTunes, follow on Twitter, tell your
pals.
| |||
21 Jan 2020 | Batman: The Dark Knight Returns | 01:25:20
We’re digging the film, but let’s be real, we’re going for the jugular of the comic book mythos. Still, Luke was blindsided by the quality of the DC Animated Universe, and Matt thinks there is nothing better than RoboCop voicing Batman.
But the real reason we had to get to Batman was so that we could show Luke’s past attempt to actually be Batman.

29 Jan 2020 | The Black Hole (w/ Andrew Shearer from Gonzoriffic) | 01:10:28
This is an oft forgotten, psychedelic colour blast of science fiction featuring some heavy hitters in the cast and some wild design. It is a good movie? That's up for debate, but it is undoubtedly an endlessly fascinating production. We get deep into that, as well as FX tips on how to turn a butt into a vampire.
Disney's first live action take on sci-fi is a strange one indeed. And who better to bring in to chat about it than Andrew Shearer, director of "Space Boobs in Space" and the ringleader of the Gonzoriffic Underground Film Collective. He also happened to live across the street from Matt when they were kids. If you search for Gonzoriffic, it'll send you in the right direction, but here's how to open a portal to their Instagram:

05 Feb 2020 | The Fifth Element | 01:37:25
This pansexual, fabulous, candy-coated sci-fi romp could have only happened at the time that it did. The Willis and Chris Tucker are in their prime, and Milla Jovovich definitely makes herself known. Gary Oldman's worth seeing as well, but he hates this movie, so whatever. We've opened up a portal to the 90's, declined Chris Tucker's credit card, and given Milla's '94 singer-songwriter album a spin.

03 Feb 2020 | Star Trek: Picard ("Remembrance" and "Maps and Legends") | 00:24:51
How many podcasts are going on about Picard? Probably quite a few. Still, here’s our fun-sized take on the first two episodes of the series. That’s only like 20% of the candy bar - and that’s all we’ve seen of this.
| |||
11 Feb 2020 | Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw | 01:06:53
In this very special episode, Luke teaches Matt to pronounce both "Jason Statham" and "zeitgeist," as Matt keeps mumbling the former and deranges the latter We also cover this spinoff of the Fast & Furious series, which has a transhumanist bent that was enough for us to call it sci-fi. This is basically Matt's first F&F movie, but Luke has had the run of all of them as we consider it's place in the franchise.
