Hello Runners,
We all need the inspiration to achieve our goals.
Running inspiration comes from many sources, but I believe our primary source of inspiration comes from other runners. Those that have challenged themselves starting with the believability level at close to zero. "I could never do that," "that is for other people but not me." Then they start running, maybe a quarter mile, then a mile, then a 5k, a 10K, a Half Marathon, and then a Marathon. And their life changes. So can yours.
This episode, Stan "the man" Cottrell, Erin Azar, and Liz Poliak are stories that will inspire and motivate you. That is my goal, to bring you inspirational stories of other runners so that you too may be inspired to do something you never thought you could do.
Believe in yourself! You CAN do more than you ever thought possible. Just look to other runners for your inspiration. I do! It's out there, everywhere!
Thank you for listening to the Feel Good Running Podcast, and please share this with your running friends and on your social media platforms. I would very much appreciate it. And please get on our mailing list. I will send out two Emails per month to announce new episodes and items of interest, all about running. You can do sign up by Clicking HERE!
Train hard, run harder, and be well. And remember to be kind to others, even if some are not kind to you. It's good for the heart and soul!

Hello Runners,
Pollen is upon us as trees and flowers come back to life after the winter months. Well, that, of course, depends on where you live. Trees and flowers bloom all year long in some parts of the United States. Not in Denver. We get the sunshine here, but the trees are bare, and the landscape is brown, though the vista views of the snowcap mountains are breathtaking.
With Pollen, for some of us, comes allergies. Sneezing, runny nose, stuffed up head, sneezing, and runny nose. It can be not very pleasant, but as runners, we work through it. So be sure to take some Kleenex with you on your run because, undoubtedly, you will need to blow your nose.
Here is an article from Canadian Running titled "Should you run with Seasonal Allergies?". Good luck; my allergies are mild but still sometimes irritating.
In this episode, I have three stories for you:
These stories will motivate and inspire you! Enjoy then! If you know someone with a unique running story, please share it with me. You can Email it to me at jim@feelgoodrunning.com Thank you for listening to the Feel Good Running Podcast! Please consider sharing this podcast with your running friends and on your social media platforms if you enjoy it. I would very much appreciate it, and it will help the show grow. Remember to be kind to others, even if some are not kind to you. It's good for the heart, mind, and soul. Good luck with all of your 2022 running goals; run smart, and stay injury-free. 10 Nov 2020 | Vince Varallo – Boston Buddies Run Club | 01:07:47
Hello Runners, Well runners, we are in November and Thanksgiving is upon us. This year will be much different since there will be no in-person Turkey Trot running races. Virtual, yes, but it's not the same. I always look forward to the Turkey Trot race each year, socializing after and then later enjoying a nice Thanksgiving meal. Yes it will be much different this year. The election is finally over and what a week it was. I waited to release this episode while the events of last week all passed. No matter who your candidate may have been, I hope that now we can all move forward together in a positive way. Vince Varallo is my guest this episode. In December of 2016 Vince, who trains mostly alone, posted on the Boston Marathon Facebook page looking for others to virtually train with for Boston and to get tips, suggestions and share experiences. He then started Boston Buddies Run Club Facebook Page with four people, and today there are 11,400+ members that actively participate. You do not need to run Boston to be a part of the Boston Buddies Run Club. On October 21st, an event that Vince organized, The Great American Relay, finished at the Santa Monica Pier in California. It started in Boston on September 15th. The relay ran through 15 states with 379 stages each ranging from 5-22 mile, most averaging 10. The event was a huge success as you can see on the very interactive Facebook page. Vince and his group organized some other creative and fun virtual challenges. You will enjoy this episode. I'd also like to congratulate Chris Nikic who made history last Saturday by being the first person with Down syndrome to complete the Panama City Beach Ironman. What an accomplishment and what a fine young man. Chris...you are a Ironman. And a shout out to my friend Coach Ashley McKenney who also finished the Ironman last Saturday. Be well and be safe runners. Wear your mask in public. Please be kind and courteous to others and share our love of the sport of running running! And as Vince Varallo says, "Running isn't Cancelled!" Keep running! ~ Jim

Hello Runners,
Happy Halloween! I narrowly escaped a haunted house that I was in with a scary guy chasing me with an ax! But I made it out and am relieved that I can keep bringing you new episodes of Feel Good Running. Or perhaps you wish he would have caught me :)
The fall live race season is quickly coming to a close. The only other US major remaining is the NYC Marathon on November 7th. However, other marathons and races are happening in the next few weeks, and if your race is upcoming, good luck to you.
A week or so ago, I ran the Colfax Half-Marathon here in Denver, and what a great day. A great expo prior and the day of there were lots of runners, beautiful weather, and lots of finish area activity including a band and beer tent! We even ran through the Denver Zoo and a Fire Station. Hats off to Creigh Kelley, Andrea Dowdy, and the team. They did an outstanding job for us runners!
In this episode, we explore three motivating running stories. In one, I talk about how I lost the joy of running over the past 5-6 months. It's not been fun, but I am on the other side due to my participation in recent live races and training my brain. Also, an inspirational story of a man, Chris Rand, that fell off a cliff a little over a year ago, told he would never walk again, and now is running races. And a story that includes two individuals, Kristian Turner and Kelly Fitzgerald, that found running and transformed their lives.
Oh, and I talk about my fractured wrist and how that all happened. I'm currently in this awful purple cast on my left arm. I did run the Colfax Half -Marathon with this cast. It was not that bad. I could even slip my energy gels in the top of it. Silver lining!
We want to hear about your fall 2021 race experience. Just go to feelgoodrunning.com/myrace. There are instructions and a link that you can record a little about your race experience. I'll put a group of them together in a future episode. Talking about your experience in your own words will motivate other runners!
If you know someone with a unique running story, please feel free to share it with me. You can Email it to me at jim@feelgoodrunning.com

Hello Runners!
Welcome to 2022! I hope your new year is off to a great start. A few episodes ago, I mentioned that I’m very happy to be out of 2021, It was a year I just assume forget for many personal reasons. But hey, I’ve started the new year vertical and that is a good thing.
I’m on my way to Maui this week to work on the Maui Marathon course which will be held on April 24th. I’ll also be heading up the Maui Oceanfront Marathon’s Cookie run this Thursday and running the 10K this Sunday. It’s been almost 2 years since I left Maui and really look forward to returning and seeing many of my friends. And yes, I sure miss Maui but must say I am very happy in Denver. Denver is a vibrant city with an incredible running community. I guess I’ve adapted.
Well, for the first news segment this year, I wanted to provide some great information to get us off to a strong start and get us going with renewed motivation and inspiration.
I found a few articles to help us amp up our running technique, build our strength and share some great pointers for those of us setting running goals for 2022. I signed up for the Las Vegas Half Marathon next month. I have a goal I’d like to reach and have some major work to do to hit it.
If you are a new runner welcome to the wonderful world of running. It could possibly change your life. The easiest way to start running is to just start. It’s that simple. Don’t overdo it. You will see improvement every time you run. And, if you haven’t already, go to a local running store and consult a specialist. They will guide you to the correct running shoes, gear, and you can ask as many running related questions as you like. You will leave the store excited and motivated. And please be sure to consult a physician before you start any new exercise programs.
I wish each of you an awesome, healthy, and successful 2022! Keep running!
~Jim

Hello Runners! How are you? I hope you are all very safe and faring well during these tough and unknown times we all are experiencing with the effects of the COVID-19 virus. Who would have ever thought something like this could happen in this day and age? It has certainly shook up all of our lives and the running world. In this episode I provide some suggestions how you as a runner can work through, both physically and mentally, the disappointment and frustration of your target race being cancelled. Also I offer suggestions on how you can maintain your running through these trying times, which we all need to do mostly solo due to social distancing. I also talk about what it is like from a Race Director's point of view, the gut wrenching decisions that they must make, and how you can be of help. My move from Maui to Denver took me away from my Podcast longer than I anticipated. I am sorry for the gap between episodes and no February news. I'm settled comfortably in Denver now and have my office and studio set up. You can expect some consistency from this point. I'll talk about my move, and how I am adjusting to being back on the mainland after eight years on Maui in Episode #23. It will include a great round table discussion with long time runners, and dear friends from the Kihei Wednesday night run group I headed up there. These are trying times and I would like to hear from you. Feel free to send me an email at jim@feelgoodrunning.com and let me know what is on your mind and if I can provide any advice. I will answer all emails personally. I would love to hear from you and how you are coping with the COVID-19 virus change of life. Hello Runners, Well it is August! We are eight months into the worst year in my memory. But we have running to help us get through it. I hope it is helping you! Moving to Denver from Maui in February, I am bracing for my first fall/winter where the seasons actually change. I've not gone through a winter in over 8 years. Got to upgrade my wardrobe since I am still wearing my island garb during the beautiful Colorado summer. A recent shock, Halloween costume stores are popping up in Denver. A little early in my opinion and I expect Costco to set up their Christmas displays soon if they haven't already. We are just trying to make it through each day! Geez. I was invited to be a guest on the "Run Your Day" podcast with host Daniel Hafner. This is a very positive podcast with wonderful messages. Daniel is a very good in-depth host. They are quick hit episodes not exceeding 15 minutes. The episode I am on is 37 minutes since he rarely has a guest. I am on episode #270! That is a lot of episodes. I'm humbled. Click here to hear it. I'm honored to have Kent Wories as this episodes guest. He is the owner of Runners Roost in Colorado, which is an independent running store. He has six stores he owns outright and three others he licenses out the name but are independently owned by others. We discuss how he positioned his stores through the pandemic, how he is doing now, and the future of the independent running retail store. A very good talk. Please support your local running store. They need your business more than ever and we need them to survive. They are a big support of the local running community. Be safe runners. Wear your mask in public. Please be kind and courteous to others. And remember to “just show up and always, ALWAYS, feel good about YOUR running!" ~ Jim

Hello Runners,
Happy Thanksgiving!
This is the time of the year when we all give thanks for the blessings in our lives. And we share our time with the people we love over a nice meal. Thankfully, we have that opportunity this year, though we must still be respectful to follow the current restrictions as we travel. I'll be visiting my brother in Pittsburgh this Thanksgiving.
Congratulations to all of you who will be running the 2022 Boston Marathon. Everyone who qualified this past year will be accepted! If you've not run Boston in the past and are qualified, go for it. Get it done. Qualifying times are set for 2023, and who knows what the cutoff time will be.
In this episode, I dive into the subject of the heart and running. I mentioned two runners last episode that experienced heart attacks during their race. And the most publicized was 34 year old Meghan Roth at this year's Boston Marathon. My family has a strong history of heart issues and I must pay close attention to my heart health. Even if you think you are healthy and in shape, it is good to get a checkup at least once a year. Meghan was in peak shape. Preventive maintenance is the best medicine for sure.
I focus on two runners, Marla Sewall and Darlene Anita Scott, both were in shape and had heart issues. They are both grateful to be alive. And I also throw in a heartfelt story that you will absolutely love. Enjoy this episode.
If you know someone with a unique running story, please feel free to share it with me. You can Email it to me at jim@feelgoodrunning.com

25 Oct 2022 | Tina Muir – Running for Real – Making a Difference | 01:11:31
Hello Runners!
Fall race season is winding down, and what a season it has been thus far.
First, the world record at the Berlin Marathon by Eliud Kipchoge with a time of 2:01:09. And a week later, the US Women's Marathon Record fell at the Chicago Marathon by Emily Sisson with a time of 2:18:29. The next US major is in a few weeks, the New York Marathon! We shall see what amazing things happen.
Congratulations to each of you that reached your goal of finishing a race, or two, or three this fall. You rock.
I'm so honored, humbled, and excited to have Tina Muir as my guest this episode. Tina is the founder and CEO of Running for Real, a running influencer, and the #1 running podcast with over 5.5 million downloads. Running for Real is much more than a running podcast; it's a running community! Tina is exceptionally passionate about the environment, and uses her platform to bring awareness to our planet as an environmental activist. Simply a wonderful human being making a huge difference!
In April, Tina ran the Maui Marathon as a guide for a dear friend, Joseph Retherford who is mostly blind. A former elite runner, she abruptly decided to stop running in her prime shocking the running world. She had had enough. Tina had been suffering from amenorrhea, the loss of menstruation, for nine years. She was burnt out and wanted to start a family. So she stopped running.
She reached out to me in Maui to see if we could connect. Unfortunately, it didn't happen because I was highly strapped for the entire weekend and after as the course director. But we talked, and she expressed how much she enjoyed the marathon and its effect on her being in Maui.
I know you will enjoy this episode. We talk very little about Tina's past as an elite runner, and you can find numerous articles written about Tina on the Internet. Most of our talk is on her Maui experience, the environment, the status of races becoming more environmentally friendly, the addition of a non-binary category, and the fantastic running community she is building. We go deep, for sure. I am grateful to call Tina a friend!
So please, please share this episode with all of your running friends and on your social media platforms. It is, in my opinion, one of my best episodes!
Enjoy this episode! And if Tina inspires you, please send me a note to let me know your thoughts at jim@feelgoodrunning.com.
Thank you runners for listening to the Feel-Good Running Podcast! Please consider sharing this podcast with your running friends and on your social media platforms if you like it. I do not spend money to advertise my podcast. Instead, I try to grow it organically, which is by you, my listeners, sharing it! Thank You!
Remember to be kind to others, even if some are not kind to you. Everyone seems stressed out these days with inflation, politics, and world events. We all need to make a difference now more than ever. Peace everyone! ~ Jim

Hi Runners, Happy holiday season everyone! As we wind down this year and decade it is a time to reflect on what you accomplished as a runner. And when I say runner, I mean everyone that laces up their running shoes and goes out there each time to better themselves. So this past year maybe you trained for a race? Maybe ran a marathon, 10k, 5k or even an ultra. Or maybe you just ran for the physical health benefits or mental healing or whatever reason? So many people have amazing stories of how running has been so life changing and very important to their life. We have had some of these people as guests in 2019. You can be sure I will be doing more, and as a matter of fact, you can expect another one this month just before Christmas! Guests Michael Klee and Anita Zonker are a wonderful couple. They met in my former running club, Runners Edge of the Rockies in Denver. Both are very close friends of mine and we have a lot of history. But that aside, this is a heartwarming story of two people later in life that found each other through running and fell in love. So those of you looking for that special someone, well, don't give up. Hello Runners, How are you? It's already March, and it's entirely possible you may have already run a race this year, or are training for a spring race, or maybe you are a new runner and now seeing results or just running for enjoyment. No matter, I hope you are injury-free and feeling great! So, I've not published an episode in over a month. February was tough, I caught a bad case of the flu, or maybe it was Covid. I was in bed for a week with no energy, chills, sweating, and feeling miserable and got behind in just about everything. I was also signed up to run the Vegas Rock n' Roll Half-Marathon which I had to bail. Frustrating to say the least. I'm fully vaccinated have my booster shot and still had Omicron right after Christmas last year, but the symptoms were very mild. Anyway, I feel bad I've not released an episode this long. So to make up for it, I am releasing two back-to-back weeks to catch up. I appreciate your understanding and value you all that listen to my podcast. In this episode, I have three stories for you:
These stories will motivate and inspire you! As you may know, I am very involved with the Maui Marathon as the course director. Everything is set for the event on April 24th. I have a unique code for listeners that will give you 25% off the full or half marathon for the 2022 Maui Marathon. CODE: feelgoodrunning25 (case sensitive) This code does not apply to the Marathon Relay, 5K, or 10K races. Plan a vacation to Maui and wrap it around an incredible race experience! 04 May 2020 | Should you Wear a Mask while Running? | 00:47:33
Hello Runners! Should you wear a mask while running? That is a question that has been kicked around since the Covid-19 pandemic started. We are now over two months into our lives being abruptly changed by the coronavirus. It feels like a year. I long to run with my running friends and go out to breakfast, eating away the morning after a nice run. But that is probably far off. I am running. Actually, I ran more miles in April than I have in any month the past two years. As with many of us, I'm doing my job of staying at home, I feel I am contributing my share. That is what we are supposed to do. But I am forever grateful to the selfless front line medical workers that are working day and night to exhaustion saving people but also seeing the ugly side of death. I thank all the other workers; police, firemen, grocery store workers, and so many others that are out there keeping things going. They are putting their life on the line for us. Most are healthy some are not and have passed. We are fortunate as runners to be able to still go outside and run. But should we be wearing a mask? Well, Scientist Taisa Kushner, Coach David Manthey, and Dr. Christoper Segler give their thoughts. And a few of my serious running friends also provide their thoughts and if they wear a mask while out for a run. I hope you enjoy this episode. It's different than the others and provides you thought provoking opinions that may help you to decide if you should wear a mask. That is if you haven't already decided. If you have any comments about this topic, I would love to hear from you. And when I say hear I mean hear. Record a voice message to me by Clicking Here! Please stay healthy and safe and respect other runners. We will get through this! ~ Jim

15 Sep 2020 | Refresh, Retool & Peter Sagal | 01:01:04
Hello Runners, The Feel Good Running podcast will be two years old at the beginning of December. That is quite an amount of time in the podcast world. Many podcast's start up and end just as fast, when it is realized how much work goes into doing an episode. Being the 34th episode of the Feel Good Running podcast, I feel the current format is getting stale. That said, I am working on freshening things up and retooling! My plan is to amp it down a bit. I'm having a new intro & outro produced so it is not so dramatic and polished. More natural. Also, as mentioned in Episode 33, I am going to cut the time length of future episodes. With so many podcasts to choose from, I think lengthy episodes are not as appealing unless you are a superfan of the show. I have some very exciting episodes coming up for you. One that is near and dear to my heart, so much so, I hired a editor/creator to help me with it. This will be my best episode and I know you will enjoy it. Of course, your suggestions about my podcast are always welcome and needed. You can record a voice message or leave a message at feelgoodrunning.com This episode is a replay of my conversation with Peter Sagal, host of the NPR News Quiz, Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me and the author of the book, The Incomplete Book of Running. This was recorded in January of 2019. We had Peter and his wife out to the Maui Marathon (remember marathons?) last October. He spoke at our expo, signed books and took pictures with fans and he ran the Maui Marathon the next day. He said, "That was Tough" but was very happy. He then enjoyed a wonderful week with his wife on Maui. Peter is a true gentleman. You will enjoy the conversation if you have not heard it. I hope to have the retooled new episode out in a few weeks. Be on the lookout for it and please share the podcast on your social media platforms. And you can subscribe to Feel Good Running on Apple Podcasts. And if you do, please leave a rating. That helps very much! Keep on running! ~ Jim

28 Mar 2022 | Ben Reisinger – From 375 lbs to a 2:52 Marathon | 01:08:30
Hello Runners, It's spring! On my run this morning, I heard birds chirping. Yeah, being in Denver, we have this thing called winter. I know that some of you live in warmer climates and cannot relate. But the bird thing is a big deal. The snow thing gets old! I'm pleased to bring you this exciting episode that you will enjoy. It has been quite some time since I interviewed a guest. So it felt good to get back in the interview saddle. A little over a week ago, my friend introduced me to this runner with an incredible story. In 2015, Ben Reisinger weighed 375 pounds. After moving back from Denver, he started his transformation, and in October of 2021, he ran a 2:52 marathon at the Baystate Marathon in Lowell, MA. Ben is an inspiration to all runners. Enjoy this episode! And if Ben's story inspires you, please send me a note to let me know your thoughts at jim@feelgoodrunning.com. 02 Dec 2020 | Female Running Safety – A True Story about Being in an Uncomfortable Situation | 01:00:00
Hello Runners, We made it to the last month of 2020. One more to go and we start a fresh new year. Though things will still be rough at the beginning of 2021, let's hope as the year progresses things turn around and improve and bring our lives closer to normal. And especially live running races back without the worry of cancellations. I hope each of you had a nice Thanksgiving holiday with whomever you could spend it with this year. My girlfriend Tracy and I celebrated with a feast. Seems we were eating leftovers for the following three days. Not complaining. Tracy and I also walked the Give Back Half-Marathon, a virtual half-marathon, put on by Fleet Feet in Burbank and Encino, California. We chose to do it at the Cherry Creek State Park in Denver. This is a nature filled park and we had a wonderful time enjoying the peace and quiet. Tracy is very strong and did well. I am very proud of her. If you have been a listener of the Feel Good Running podcast for some time, you know that I am passionate about female running safety. My guest this episode is Tasha Ina Church. She was my guest on Episode #9 back in March of 2019. Tasha recently posted on her Facebook Page about a terrifying encounter she had while running. Being a professional Self Defense Instructor and even all the techniques she knows, it was terrifying. She tells the story in this episode. She also talks about her new Self Defense on-line course that will be available on December 8th. And she is conducting a 7-day virtual Empowerment Challenge that will rock your world. It is titled "When Women Rise." This will be held December 7-15 for 30 minutes each day. 12:00-12:30 PM EST, 9:00-9:30 AM PST. Be well and be safe runners. Wear your mask in public. Please be kind and courteous to others and share our love of the sport of running running! Keep running! ~ Jim

09 Sep 2022 | Eliza Fletcher – Heinous, Senseless, Murder – Safety Tips from Tasha Ina Church | 01:06:20
Hello Runners!
This must stop! Another young woman was violently murdered while out for a run!
Eliza Fletcher from Memphis, wife, mother of two boys, and a Kindergarten teacher, was out for a run on Friday, September 2, 2022. She was running at about 4:00 AM, just doing what she loved, when he violently attacked, abducted, and murdered her. This psychopath dumped her body behind an abandoned house in tall grass.
This murder was a heinous, senseless, and disgusting crime by a sick, psychopath, fucking animal of a so-called human being. And it pisses me off—no reason for this whatsoever.
I talk about Eliza and other murdered female runners in this episode, and I don't hold back. However, if you are sensitive to a little rough language, please be aware, and I apologize in advance for my language.
I also replay an interview in late 2020 with Self Defense Instructor Tasha Ina Church. She went through a very uncomfortable episode while running with a male scumbag following her. Tasha knows over 850 Self Defense moves. And even so, this encounter shook her to the core.
We talk about that, and Tasha provides valuable self-defense tips and techniques. Even one of them can save a life. Very much worth a listen.
Thank you, runners, for listening to the Feel-Good Running Podcast! Please consider sharing this podcast with your running friends and on your social media platforms if you like it. I do not spend money to advertise my podcast. Instead, I try to grow it organically, which is by you, my listeners, sharing it! Thank You!
Remember to be kind to others, even if some are not kind to you. The world is terrifying these days, as was just experienced in Memphis. Yet, we all need to make a difference now more than ever. So be aware, be safe, and enjoy your run! Peace everyone!

Hello Runners! Welcome and I hope you are all healthy and well. So, as we all are enjoying whatever we can during pandemic summer, it appears it is not going away any time soon. Though businesses, retail and some restaurants are opening, more and more running races are cancelled this year. It is safe to say; the 2020 running race season is all but done. I think we all understand and accept that. UPDATE: Just this morning, prior to releasing this episode, the New York Marathon was cancelled. It is all but a given that Chicago and most likely Marine Corps Marathon will follow soon. My friend Michelle and I are a 2-person relay team participating in the Virtual Colorado Trail Challenge. This is a 500-mile goal that you have 95 days to complete. It started June 1st. We are just about half way through at just under 250 miles. You can still participate or even see the ongoing results. The name of our team is Bawls to the Wols! Track Us Here! We are also doing a weekly Podcast for the Virtual Colorado Trail Challenge, which include updates and some very interesting guests. CLICK HERE to listen and even learn a little about the Colorado Trail. If you have been listening to my podcast for some time, you will know that late last year and January of this year, I had a monthly “minisode” episode on some inspirational and motivating running news. Well due to the pandemic, there has been no running news. That is unless you want to hear about three thousand virtual races, race cancellations or people running races in their backyards, balcony or living room. So after looking around for a few months, I found three wonderful running news stories to bring you. I know you are going to enjoy each of them. They really are motivating and inspirational. I'm so honored that The Feel Good Running Podcast is growing due to you listeners. I cannot thank you enough. I do receive feedback and one common response is that this podcast is sporadic and not on a firm schedule. Well, that changes now. From this episode going forward, expect to receive a fresh new Feel Good Running episode the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. Mark your calendars! 24 May 2021 | Al Balmer – Running Marathons & Remembering Manny | 01:15:37
Hello Runners, It's almost summer, and things are looking optimistic in the running world. About time wouldn't you say? On May 5, 2021, my sister-in-law, Lorraine Lynch passed away. She was in my life since I was born. Lorraine was a kind, giving, and selfless woman who was the glue of our family. There are so many memories, and I appreciated her very much. I thank you for all you have done for me since I was born. I will never forget you, and I love you. My guest in this episode is everyday runner Al Balmer from Austin, Texas. Al reached out, interested in talking about his father-in-law Manny and how marathon running intertwined during his life and death. A very moving conversation. And, Al will be running the 2021 Boston Marathon with his mom Karen as a mother-son team. They are running for the Boston Marathon charity, Community Rowing. They have a hefty fundraising goal to achieve. If you would like to donate, CLICK HERE! It would be very kind of you. I've been busy the past few months running, interviewing amazing guests for future episodes, two of them very powerful. On the other hand, and sadly, Motivation "Runday" Monday has possibly run its course. I hope you've enjoyed the episodes and runners featured. They were all amazing! Listenership for Motivation "Runday" Monday is excellent; however, participation not so much. As hard as I have tried to solicit runners to participate, the well has run dry. These episodes are by you and, for you, the everyday runner. That said, I will keep trying for your participation but will put Motivation Runday Monday on hold through June to see if it somehow can be reignited. If you would like to participate, go to feelgoodrunning.com/mrm. There are seven questions to answer, which you can do so in your own words:

05 Jul 2021 | Letty Lundi – Marathon Runner and Running Podcast Host | 01:07:12
Hello Runners, It is July! Summer is moving at lightning speed and soon, fall race season, however that will look, will be in full swing. That means you must be in full training if you are doing a fall race. My guest in this episode is Letty Lundi, co-host with her husband Ryan, of the Marathon Running Podcast by We Got the Runs. Letty started running in her mid-20s and started marathoning in 2009 during law school and completed about 20 of them all around four hours. She became an immigration attorney and kept running marathons here and there, and started taking running seriously after her second child because she wanted to qualify for Boston. She sought out a coach and started really training for the first time and ran a 3:23 at the 2019 Mountains 2 Beach Marathon. Later that same year, she PRd with a 3:18 at the Chicago Marathon and she plans to meet or exceed that time this fall in Boston! Me, your host, is also getting serious about running and training for a half marathon in August at altitude and a whole lot of downhill. Feels good to finally have a running goal. Now if my body will only feel that good!!! Oh yeah, Benjamin Pachev ran a 1:06:33 half-marathon at the Utah Valley Half-Marathon last month. And he ran them in those funny-looking clogs, Crocs. And the whole family wears them. This is amazing. Thank you for listening to the Feel Good Running Podcast, and please share this with your running friends and on your social media platforms. I would very much appreciate it. Train hard, run harder, and be well. And remember to be kind to others, even if some are not kind to you. It's good for the soul! ~ Jim

Inspirational Running Quote "That’s what running does to lives. It’s not just exercise. It’s not just achievement. It’s a daily discipline that has nothing to do with speed, weight, social status, sexual orientation, political affiliation, where you live, what car you drive, or whether anyone anywhere loves you. It’s about the slow and painful process of being the best you can be." ~ Martin...

21 Jul 2020 | Frank Campo – Prana Endurance Training | 01:17:25
Hello Runners! How is it going? It is hot just about everywhere in the USA. As if we don't have enough to deal with already with the coronavirus, now we need to deal with the heat. Oh well, it is summer, right? Below are a couple of links to articles that provide suggestions for running in hotter weather such as staying hydrated. Remember to take your phone, a credit card and some cash just in case you get into trouble during your run and need some water or an Uber or Lyft to get a ride back home. Better to be safe than sorry. This is a great episode with my guest and friend, personal running and triathlon coach, Frank Campo from Prana Endurance Training. Frank coaches athletes all over the world. He is known for helping athletes balance their busy lives and their training schedule in a way that allows them to get more out of each workout, to get faster, to avoid injury and to guide them to that ultimate PR goal. After listening to our great conversation, you can reach Frank and book a free 15-minute consultation to see how he can help you train smarter not harder. I just watched a powerful running documentary, Skid Row Marathon. This has been out for awhile, and I am not sure how I missed it. It is about a very selfless person Craig Mitchell, a criminal judge in Los Angeles, who started a running club from the downtown LA Mission. He trains former criminals and addicts to run a marathon. I actually read an article on the Skid Row Runners in Runners World last year, and it really touched me. It is all about giving back and believing in others. I am going to be in Los Angeles in early September and plan to run with the Skid Row Running Club . I'm working on doing a Podcast episode with them. I hope it works out, and you will be the first to know if it does. Definitely check out the documentary, Skid Row Marathon. It scores high on my list. Be safe runners. Wear your mask in public. Please be kind and courteous to others. This pandemic is tough, but we are all in this together. We will beat it as a team. And remember to “just show up and always, ALWAYS, feel good about YOUR running!" ~ Jim

25 Apr 2022 | Bonnie VanDeraa– A Story of Survival – Redux | 01:07:13
Aloha Runners, How are you? Are you reaching all of your 2022 running goals? Did you run Boston this year? Did you run a race this year? Running is back, and there are so many races. I'm in Hawaii, specifically Maui. Yesterday was the Maui Marathon. I am the course director and will talk about the race in the next episode. Since I am traveling, I'm re-releasing a compelling episode I did in 2019 that will truly inspire you. Sometimes, a story is so inspiring that it will bring you to your knees. This episode is a re-release of an Interview I did in 2019 with Bonnie VanDeraa from Vinita, Oklahoma. It is my most powerful interview with this amazing woman and her fight to survive. On January 23, 2018, Bonnie went through a horrific event that should have killed her. However, her training and skill as an EMT and her willpower, strength, and courage allowed her to survive. In addition, Bonnie is a runner, and though she has not been able to run since that day, she can walk and, on March 3, 2019, she walked the entire Little Rock Marathon. While recovering in the hospital, she acquired the nickname "Wonder Woman," she lives up to that name! You do not want to miss this interview. It will change the way you approach your day and your life, for that matter. Since my interview, Bonnie has written a biography titled, "The Making of a Wonder Woman." You can order it here from Amazon. Thank you for listening to the Feel-Good Running Podcast! Please consider sharing this podcast with your running friends and on your social media platforms if you like it. I do not spend money to advertise my podcast. Instead, I try to grow it organically, which is by you, my listeners, sharing it! Thank You! Remember to be kind to others, even if some are not kind to you. We all need to make a difference in this world. Happy running and peace, everyone! ~ Jim

Hello Runners, Well, it is now September, and the summer is just about over. Only four more months until 2021. Let's hope things turn around. I am looking forward to the cooler, crisper fall air. Great for running! This is a shorter episode. I’m in between trips. Just got back from Pittsburgh and am heading to Los Angeles for a week. While there, I will be running with the Skid Row Running Club and recording a podcast. So excited! There was another woman runner who was just out for a nice run, and a psychopath turned around after passing her then abducted, assaulted and killed her. Her name is Sydney Sutherland, a beautiful 25 year old woman. Ladies, the reality is when you run you must be aware of your surroundings and take the appropriate precautions to stay safe. Please listen to Episode #9. Tasha Ina Church is a Self-Defense Instructor, and she gives so many tips and techniques that will help you if you find yourself in a dangerous situation. The Alive and Running Virtual 5K Walk/Run for Suicide Prevention will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2020. I believe strongly in this organization and will be doing this here in Denver. 05 Apr 2020 | What’s Your Running Routine during this Pandemic? (MiniSode) | 00:17:27
Hello Runners! How are you? Are you doing ok and getting through this pandemic as best you can? Our lives have changed for sure, and self distancing and self isolation is surely difficult especially since we never experienced anything like this in our lifetime. But we will get through it! Keep the faith. We are fortunate as runners to be able to still go outside and run. There are many runners who are doctors, nurses, police officers, pharmacists and many first responders who are putting their lives on the line to save lives. There are grocery store workers and employees in essential businesses who must work in the general public and are also potentially exposed to the COVID-19 virus. We thank each and every one of you. In this episode, I'm reaching out to the running community. What are you doing to keep your running and fitness up? Is it getting harder to stay motivated? What is your routine? We can motivate each other. I am starting a forum where you can do just that. It is important that we communicate during this time. Go to FeelGoodRunning.com and on the main page is a tab to click which gives you the opportunity to record up to a five minute audio message. Let us know what your running routine is like during this pandemic. Feel free to say a few words about what else you are doing to keep yourself busy such as movies or TV shows you are watching, family activities you are doing or even a project you have put off until now. Don't worry about messing up. I will edit pieces out of what you submit and include them in upcoming episodes. If we get good participation, I will get out two episodes a week as we go through this. This is all about you sharing with other runners! These episodes will be about 15 minutes in length. I really hope you will participate and share this with your running friends so they can send a voice message themselves. Let's start something here that is positive, inspiring and motivates us all! When you leave your message, please say your first name and where you are from. Please be safe, wash your hands, wear your mask and stay 6 feet from everyone. Stay healthy and let's hope life gets back to normal soon! ~ Jim

23 Jan 2020 | Ashley Schneider – MS Run the US Relay | 01:33:42
Hello Runners! Welcome to 2020 a new year and new decade. Seems almost surreal that we have reached this milestone...well at least those of us who have been around a bit! This episode was delayed because I got sick. Yup, first time in four years. I was at a New Years Eve party with about 15 or so friends and 11 of us got sick. Some worse than others. I got the cold, cough, chest congestion, sneezing and chills. The whole sick package. So, I am sorry for the delay of this episode. With a new year, comes new running goals. Some of you may have your goal set and maybe even a target race for this winter or spring. And some of you may be brand new at running and are already seeing incredible results. Please just stick with it. During my opening comments of this episode, I ask the question are you an extraverted or introverted runner? This is based on an article I came across in the New York Times titled; Running While Introverted by Judy Chaves. Judy is a introvert and I thought about my running and I think I am also a introverted runner. Listen to my opening and let me know what type of runner you are! So Ashley Schneider is my guest this episode. In 2010 Ashley ran from San Francisco to New York to raise funds and awareness for the terrible disease, Multiple Sclerosis. Her mother Jill lived with MS all her life until she passed away from it in 2017. From that initial run, in 2013 MS Run the US Relay was born. This is a 19 segment relay that starts in Santa Monica and finishes in New York. Each selected runner will run roughy 150-170 miles in 6 days for their segment. Now in its 7th year, MS Run the US has raised over $1.5 Million Dollars. This is an incredible conversation about a dream that became a reality and is making a difference. We also spoke to an Ambassador and segment runner, Laura Allred, who gives her view on MS Run the US Relay and why she is involved. Don't miss this conversation. Who knows you may want to get involved! Expect the January Minisode of Running News to be released on Thursday January 30th. And I will have a big announcement during this episode you will not want to miss! Just show up and always, ALWAYS feel good about your running! ~Jim

03 Feb 2022 | Running Inspirational News– February 2, 2022 | 00:31:09
Hello Runners,
How is it going? It's February, and we have already completed one month of 2022. I hope you are all healthy.
Are you on track with your running goals for 2022? And for our new runners who may have started your running journey as a new year resolution, are you still with us? I guarantee if you stick with running, it will change you as a person.
I just returned from Maui and had a wonderful time. So I spent much of my time prepping the course for the 2022 Maui Marathon coming up on Sunday, April 24th. The mile markings needed to be touched up, and the race course is now tip-top shape. And oh so beautiful! So consider running it this year! Just think of what a fantastic vacation this would be.
And the good news is I have a unique code that will give you 25% off either the full or half marathon for the 2022 Maui Marathon. CODE: feelgoodrunning25 (case sensitive) This code does not apply to the Marathon Relay, 5K, or 10K races.
While in Maui, I planned to run the 10K of the Maui Oceanfront Marathon instead; I helped the timing company at the halfway point of the half marathon. It was great to see all the runners as they turned to head back. A perfect morning!
Of course, I saw many of my friends, and it felt like I had never left. Maui is forever in my heart, and who knows, I could once again be my home in the future.
In this episode, I have four news stories for you. The first story is about our homegirl from right here in Denver, Brittany Charboneau, who won overall women for all four races at the Disney Marathon Goofy Challenge. The second is a story about how running makes you smarter. The third is about a remarkable woman Gretchen Schoenstein. And finally, a heartwarming story about Wrinkle the Duck, who ran the 2021 NYC Marathon. Enjoy
If you know someone with a unique running story, please feel free to...
14 Jun 2021 | Running Race Events are Back! – Race Directors Lonnie Somers & Creigh Kelley | 01:28:03
Hello Runners,
Running race events are back. Yes, and with a vengeance. Boston, New York, Chicago, Tokyo, London, and Colfax marathons are just to name a few coming back this fall. Some of these are predicting 25,000, 30,000, and more runners! Just a few months ago, we were still in the pandemic with no end in sight. That was quick!
So how will this work with local governments and CDC guidelines? Well, all of these races are fluid and things can change rather quickly. That is why there are no solid plans in place as of yet.
My guests in this episode are two highly respected individuals in the running community. Lonnie Somers, Co-Owner of Hal Sports here in Denver. Lonnie either owns or manages several events not only in Denver but in Colorado and other states. Hal Sports is a full event company. Creigh Kelley has put on over 1,000 running events and is the race director for the Colfax Marathon in Denver. Both Lonnie and Creigh are also racing day announcers.
This is a fascinating conversation of where race events were, where they are today, and what they will look like as they evolve post-pandemic. You will go away with a better understanding, appreciation, and respect for Race Directors and running events.
Lonnie and Michelle started the Fetal Health Foundation. Twin to Twin Transfusion System (TTTS) should have taken their lives. But the frantic search for information and resources, fetal surgery saved them. Today they are healthy identical twin girls. They created The Great Candy Run and today Hal Sports and dedication to running is their business and passion.
Runners, it is getting hot out there as we transition into summer. Remember to take more fluids, run slower in the heat, and try to run earlier in the morning when it is cooler.
Thank you for listening to the Feel Good Running Podcast, and please share this with your running friends and on your social media platforms. I would very much appreciate it.
Train hard, run harder, and be well. And remember to be kind to others, even if some are not kind to you. It's good for the soul!

06 Dec 2021 | Running Inspirational News – December 6, 2021 | 00:27:09
Hello Runners,
How are you? We are now in December, the final stretch of 2021, and smack dab in the heart of the holiday season. And this is the time of the year where we may eat a little more than usual. So running is more important to burn those calories. Right?
Since it is December, there's probably some Jingle Bell run close to you. Sign up for one to keep a goalStaying motivated this time of the year can be rough with the shorter days and possible winter weather where you live. Here in Denver, we've not had our first snow of the season. The temperatures have been warm, with lots of sun, and no snow. Hawaii is getting snow! Not in Denver. I'm not complaining. I like running in the cooler temps but am not a fan of snow. Please keep it in the mountains!
I feature three stories that I know you will enjoy in this episode. First is an article about the high expectations of athletes to perform at the expense of their health. This article was written by famed runner Molly Huddle. The second is about Mike Kasamoto, who has a goal to run marathons into his 90's, And, finally, Jeff Kaplan, not expected to live due to a traumatic brain injury after being hit by a car while out running. Enjoy this episode.

18 Aug 2020 | Bobby O’Donnell – “Running Wild” | 01:31:08
Hello Runners, How’s things? Hanging in there? Keeping your motivation level up to run? Are you still jazzed about virtual races or are you burned out on them? I know it is hard to keep focused without a target race. Bobby O’Donnell, author of the book Running Wild is my guest this episode. At 17, while in Boston to celebrate his dads birthday, he wanted to run the Boston Marathon. Only because he wanted a jacket. Well, he did run it on April 15, 2013, the year of the bombings. The events of that day changed the course of his life forever. Over the following five years, dealing with PTSD, he tacked it by running all seven continents. An amazing conversation! Keeping an eye on the 2021 races. Rock n’ Roll cancelled the Denver Half-Marathon and the New Orleans Marathon for next year and will bring them back in 2022. Hope this is not a trend. I did my first trail run at Green Mountain in West Denver a week ago. Picked up a brand new pair of HOKA Speed Goat trail shoes. Beautiful run and more trails are in my future. But not the shoes. I picked up some groceries on the way home. Brought everything into my place except for my new shoes. Let the car unlocked and the shoes are gone. $160 gone. Bummer :( Enjoy your week! And be safe runners. Wear your mask in public. Please be kind and courteous to others. And remember to “just show up and always, ALWAYS, feel good about YOUR running!” ~ Jim

Hello Runners! Welcome to summer 2020! We made it! But wait…summer does not start until Saturday, June 20th. I know, I know, but in my book summer starts Memorial Day weekend! The past few episodes I spoke quite a bit about COVID-19 and how it has affected the sport of running. I even did an episode on if you should wear a mask or buff while running. Well, I am tired of talking about it. I need to take a break from it and I imagine you do also. So this episode is going to be fun! Brittany Charboneau is “The Funny Runner” and is also an elite runner! She placed 13th in the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Marathon in Atlanta on February 29th of this year! Her time was 2:33:52 less that 5 minutes from grabbing a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. She is laser focused for 2024. Along with being an elite runner, Brittany is a comedian, actor, wife, dirty penny collector, and a running coach. Her Jusband (the name she identifies Justin, her husband), has a new business Sugar Tats Cookie Company! Now Brittany designs her own line of cookies called Rookie Cookies. You will notice during our conversation that Brittany has a very infectious personality! And yea, she is very funny. She is very genuine. This is a great conversation! Moving on, don’t forget to sign up for the Virtual Colorado Trail Challange. It starts June 1st and goes through September 3rd. 500 miles in 95 days. Do it solo or as a 2-person relay. I’m doing the relay. And you can do it anywhere; road, bike path, trail, treadmill or your backyard! Make this your summer goal and sign up. 02 Feb 2021 | David Zonker & Jim Lynch – Our 50 States Marathon Journey | 01:23:06
Hello Runners, Happy New Year! I hope all is well with each of you, and you are staying safe and healthy! I've not released an interview podcast episode in January because I've been working on the new Motivation "Runday" Monday quick episodes. They are going well and feature runners just like you. If you would like to be featured on an episode, go to FeelGoodRunning.com/mrm and get all the details. This is a very special episode to me. On October 21, 2006, my best friend David Zonker and I ran across the finish line of the Breakers Marathon in Middletown, RI completing an 8 ½ year journey running a full marathon in all 50 States. We are officially certified with 50 States Marathon Club. As of this episode there are 1,619 50 States Marathon Finishers, however not all of them are certified. I'm the 277th and David is the 278th official finisher. It was an incredible journey. Hear us reminisce about our experience. Very special. I also speak about the stacked up marathons that have been pushed into October. Let's cross our fingers that this pandemic is under enough control that these events can go on live. I'm sure there will be some restrictions, but runners need to run live races. Thank you for listening to the Feel Good Running Podcast, and please share this with your running friends and on your social media platforms. I would very much appreciate it. Be well, and be safe runners. Wear your mask in public. Please be kind and courteous to others, and share our love of the sport of running! Keep running! ~ Jim

Hello Runners, It's August, and we are cruising fast through the summer! Finally, fall races are upon us, and I hope you follow your training plans and are ready to crush your upcoming race. Unfortunately, Motivation "Runday" Monday has gone away. After the initial surge, the participation was not there. But it was fun while it lasted, and I thank those that participated in an episode. Your words inspired runners. The excellent news, Inspirational Running News, is back. Once the pandemic started last year, running news came to a halt unless you were into virtual races, which I am not. So now that running is back almost in full swing, I'm bringing these episodes back with a vengeance. And I have brought on a colleague from my corporate days to help find the stories and write these segments! I'm excited to bring these episodes to you. They WILL inspire you! In this episode, I feature three inspirational running stories. Katie Spotz, Malcolm Gladwell, and Clayton Simon. Their stories are sure to inspire you! Enjoy! Thank you for listening to the Feel Good Running Podcast, and please share this with your running friends and on your social media platforms. I would very much appreciate it.Train hard, run harder, and be well. And remember to be kind to others, even if some are not kind to you. It's good for the soul ~ Jim

18 May 2020 | Virtual “Colorado Trail” Challenge! | 01:05:27
Hello Runners! Another couple of weeks have passed, and we are continuing to live with this pandemic. Even as some retail stores, parks and restaurants start to re-open, it still feels restricted. Everyone is wearing a mask. It seems so unnatural. I even see more runners out there wearing a buff. It is our current reality…the new normal. But we are survivors. So runners, has the running race you have been training for been cancelled or postponed? Many races have been, and many more will be. Are you lost and just running to run without a solid goal? Are you new to running, loving it and want more? Maybe you tried a small virtual race, but that was only good for a quick band aid. Well, this summer we have a solution! The Virtual "Colorado Trail" Challenge. My friend, Coach David Manthey, shared this with me and I said, “We immediately need to do an episode.” This will be such a welcome summertime challenge for runners. Why you ask? Well, it gives runners a solid goal all summer long! Run a total of 500 miles which you can complete within 95 days! June 1 - September 3, 2020. And you can do it anywhere, even on a "dreadmill!" My definition of a treadmill. In September of 2017, Bryan Williams, an incredible ultra-marathoner who is part of this episode, physically ran the Colorado Trail from Durango to Denver in 8 days and 30 minutes. His crew took video and pictures along the way. You can do this challenge solo or as a 2-person relay. I personally am running the relay with a friend. Also joining this episode are two other amazing ultra distance runners, Emily Booth and Jeremy Bradford who are also a part of bringing this event to life. Jeremy, by the way, completed the 3,000 mile transcontinental run across the USA in 2016. He started at the Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles and ended at City Hall in NYC. It took him 59 days and change. You will enjoy this episode and be motivated to sign up to do this challenge! Do you like free gifts? How about a running-related gift? Well, if you subscribe to my email, you will get a free gift! 101+ Running-Related Links! Yes…your resource for all things running--links to Running Apps, Running Podcasts, On-Line Training Programs, Running Travel, Running Gear, Running Publications and Blogs and more! I will not spam you. I promise. If you don’t like it, you can just unsubscribe. So SUBSCRIBE to my email now, and get your FREE Gift! Please stay healthy and safe and respect other runners. We will get through this! Enjoy this episode, and maybe I'll see you as we virtually run the beautiful historic Colorado Trail! ~ Jim

Hello Runners,
Live races! Two USA major marathons, Chicago and Boston, are in the history books. Denver's Colfax Marathon this weekend and NYC Marathon around the corner. What a great feeling if you are a runner!
I completed my first race in over two years, the Denver Hot Chocolate 15k. What a perfect day, great weather, lots of runners, finish line fun, and I exceeded my goal expectation. I'll take this high to the Colfax Half-Marathon this Saturday and hope I do ok. And if not, so what, it's a live race. I want to be a part of it no matter how I do.
You will enjoy this episode. First, I have a surprise discussion with mother and son Karen Ostlund and Al Balmer, former guests on my podcast. They both completed the 2021 Boston Marathon Monday, and we had a brief discussion on their experience.
We also explore three stories; one is tips for if you are either starting or need a motivational boost to get started. Another is for runners approaching or are already in their later years. Is it necessarily true that you will slow down due to age? Find out! And a story about runners, including myself, that have or are running a marathon in all 50 States. You will enjoy these stories!
Congratulations to each of you that have run completed your fall race, and if you still have one in sight, good luck!
We want to hear about your fall 2021 race experience. Just go to feelgoodrunning.com/myrace. There are instructions and a link that you can record a little about your race experience. I'll put a group of them together in a future episode. Your experience in your own words will motivate other runners!

10 Nov 2021 | Running Inspirational News– November 10, 2021 | 00:31:18
Hello Runners,
It's November! Can you believe how fast this year has gone? 2022 is upon us, but first, we must get through the long, dragged-out holiday season. Maybe you like this time of the year. I do, but not for over two months. Seriously!
Well, the major fall race season is over. The New York Marathon was held last Sunday along with LA Marathon, and both went well. And yes, there were a handful of other marathons in different cities across the USA last weekend, and they too went well. A shout out to all the race directors and their staff, along with every volunteer! You made this comeback race season a success! Thank you from all of us runners. We appreciate you more than you will ever know.
Winter is upon us, and shorter, darker days have arrived with the time change. Winter is the time of year where we all must step up our motivation to keep running. It is easy to say to ourselves, well, it's cold or dark, or the bed is nice and warm, so I will just run tomorrow. Just gear up for the weather in your area and get out the door. You will be just fine once you are outside and get the cobwebs out during your first mile. No excuses. Get out there and get it done.
In this episode, I have three inspiring running stories. They all have an element of the human spirit and others helping others. You will see the pattern weaved in each story how other runners, spectators and, rescue crews helped other runners.
LAST CHANCE: We still want to hear about your fall 2021 race experience.

Train hard, run harder, and be well. And with the holiday season upon us, it is even more necessary to be kind to others, even if some are not kind to you. It's good for the heart, mind, and soul. So please pick up the phone and call someone you may not have connected with in some time, or reach out to a person that possibly your relationship with them has gone sour. 30 Mar 2020 | Power of a Running Group! | 01:36:14
Hello Runners! How are you? I hope you are doing ok through these tough times with the Covid-19 virus that has shut down our communities and have dramatically changed our lives. I hope you are following the CDC guidelines and self isolating, socially distancing and washing your hands. I am so thankful that our sport allows us the freedom to still get outside to run. Of course, not in a group and mostly by yourself. If you do run with someone, you still need to keep a distance of 6 feet. This episode is very special to me and I will cherish this episode forever. In early February, a few of the core runners from the Kihei Wednesday Night Running Group, which I organized for five years, got together at a local craft brew pub, What Ales You. We had a wonderful conversation and talked about our running group and the power of belonging to a running group. You will not only enjoy it but it will remind you of your running group, if you belong to one. I also give my personal thoughts about the most touching surprise goodbye party for me to send me off to Denver. It was the most touching, wonderful and humbling thing that ever happened to me in my life. And the gift that Kathleen and the group presented too me was very overwhelming. There is a picture of it and other pictures from that night below. And even the last Wednesday run that night, Zohra wrote in chalk very nice messages along the route. I ran a bit by myself that night and looked at each of those messages. I miss this group and all the wonderful runners that have made my life so much better. And I am thankful to Kathleen and Josh for keeping the group going. These are trying times and I would like to hear from you. I hope you are all doing well. Please feel free to send me an email at jim@feelgoodrunning.com and let me know what is on your mind and if I can provide any advice. I will answer all emails personally. I would love to hear from you and how you are doing. Be safe, be healthy and do your part so we can all get back to normal soon! ~ Jim

29 Jul 2022 | Julia Beckley – Adaptive Athlete – Making a Difference! | 01:13:51
Hello Runners!
Wowza! It has been a hot, hot summer thus far! It can undoubtedly be challenging to run in training and races. Are you an intelligent runner, staying hydrated and not overheating? I hope so!
August is upon us and the fall race season is just around the corner. Where did the summer go? It is flying by so fast. Not fair!
My guest in this episode is Julia Beckley from here in Denver. Julia is an AWD adaptive athlete that is making quite a difference. What is AWD, you ask? Athletes with Disabilities.
See, Julia is a push-rim athlete who pushes herself to the limit. Unfortunately, however, she has several medical conditions. One is hypophosphatasia, a rare condition that keeps bones and teeth from developing the right way, making them more likely to form incorrectly or break. Since she was eight years old, she has broken close to 45 bones.
An athlete from childhood, she has competed in races from a 5K to a 100-mile ultra. And she is making a difference being an advocate to bring push-rim wheelchair inclusion to more Colorado races. Julia is also the Director of the AWD side of the Human Race in Ft. Collins, Colorado, to be held on Saturday, August 5th.
Julia is a rock star, and her incredible story will inspire you. Also joining are Eddie Perez and Josh Gomez, who were on her support crew for this year's Colfax Marathon. We recorded this conversation at Runners Roost on Colorado Blvd. in Denver.
In my intro, I also talk about the nasty pre-race jitters!
Enjoy this episode! And if Julia's story inspires you, please send me a note to let me know your thoughts at jim@feelgoodrunning.com.
The world is terrifying these days, especially in our wonderful country. We all need to make a difference now more than ever. So happy running; stay hydrated and cool during these hot summer days! Peace everyone!
~ Jim

Hello Runners! We made it through the first half of 2020...barely. Congratulations! So did you survive your Independence Day holiday? Man! The fireworks were going off everywhere, and for five straight hours here in Denver all I heard was boom, crackle, boom, crackle and boom! Crazy! I hope you have all your fingers, toes, arms, legs, eyes, and ears intact. Bonnie VanDeraa was my guest in Episode #12. She went through a horrific life and death situation and survived but not without consequences. She has struggled since and will struggle for many years to come. She is a runner. She is Wonder Woman. She writes poems and just posted one on her Facebook page: Two Brothers (running and walking). It is beautiful, it is powerful and should be shared with all runners everywhere. Read it...live it and go listen to her story. She is amazing! My guest this episode is ultra runner, adventure racer, mountaineer, author and speaker, Marshall Ulrich. We talk about his life, his adventures, his wisdom, and you be inspired no matter what level runner or athlete you are. Marshall lives by his belief that the only limitations are in your mind, and if you don't buy into them, you can do more that you can imagine. A great conversation! Marshall has a new book Both Feet on the Ground. Buy it; get a FREE buff also. It is a powerful book on life, nature, adventure and perfect wisdom as we go through this pandemic. He and his team will also be on the upcoming Eco Challenge FIJI (world's toughest race) which will air on Prime Video in August. Check out the trailer for the show HERE. Just another reminder, as much as you dislike being on email lists, please be sure to get on my email list to receive the Feel Good Running newsletter. If you do, you get a free gift: 101+ Running-Related Links! Yes, all at your fingertips. Don’t miss out! SUBSCRIBE here! Keep focused, runners. Stick with your goals. Races will be back before you know it, but not until 2021. Stay safe, healthy and please wear a mask in public. Hello Runners! Well Happy Thanksgiving! Yes it is that time of year where many of you participate in your local Turkey Trot race. And there are quite a few of them around the country. I love the Turkey Trot because it is a great way to start Thanksgiving morning with a bunch of runners. And you can enjoy a great feast without the guilt! Not a bad deal if you ask me! MinisodeSo, this is the first Feel Good Running Minisode and I am excited. Simply, a Minisode is a shorter podcast than my regular podcasts where I feature a guest. This episode includes running related news stories that will inspire, motivate and entertain you! I plan to do a monthly running news Minisode which starts with November. Also, every so often I'll do a Minisode that will feature a topic such as the pros and cons of running with headphones. Speaking of headphones, there are only one brand of headphones I endorse for running and running safety. I recently had an interview all set up with this company and then they ghosted me. So, they are on my frustration list. I'll work on them after the first of the year. Please let me know how you like the Minisodes. Just click here to leave a comment. Vintage Marathon PictureI recently was looking through some old marathon photos of me. I found this one from 2004 from the Portland Maine Marathon. This was before the GPS watch revolution. I was wearing a vintage Timex Ironman Triathlon watch which you could use and click a button for your split times.

01 Jan 2022 | Strides in Recovery – Leslie Gold, Executive Director | 00:43:54
Hello Runners, Happy New Year! This is a podcast episode I've wanted to complete for several months and what better time than New Years Day. Earlier last year (2021), I had the opportunity to be in Los Angeles and met up with Leslie Gold, Executive Director, who started the non-profit, Strides in Recovery. We met at Chabad Treatment Center. Strides in Recovery is a Los Angeles based nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals overcome addiction. They work collaboratively with addiction treatment providers and other recovery communities such as the Beacon House, leading goal-oriented group running and walking programs for people with substance use disorders. Leslie is an amazing woman making quite a difference in so many lives with Strides in Recovery. Her commitment, dedication, consistency, and passion mixed with her love of running is giving those in their recovery journey encouragement and hope. Strides in Recovery provides a healthy platform for those in recovery to accomplish what they never thought possible. And, this all started from Leslie responding to an Ad. 03 Dec 2018 | Lindsey Hein Interviews Host Jim Lynch | 01:17:06
Hi Runners, Thank you for listening to my inaugural podcast of "Feel Good Running." This episode gives you a description of the podcast and what to expect in each episode. This podcast is for the everyday runner. Those of us who go out and run for our own personal reasons. I hope to inspire, motivate and entertain you with the content and guests. I felt it was important that you get to know a little about me and that I a little bit of a running background. I've run 101 marathons, a 50 State plus DC certified marathon finisher, a RRCA certified running coach, the Co-Race Director of the Maui Marathon in Maui Hawaii and the Vice President of the Valley Isle Road Runners on Maui. My goal is to have a new episode each and every week. I know you have a choice of several excellent podcasts and hope you will subscribe to "Feel Good Running" and keep me on your playlist. And a nice review would be welcome! The following are some highlights from this first Episode! -Jim
Lindsey Hein Glen & Lindsey Hein and their 3 boys (and recently a 4th!) Lindsey Hein is the host of the popular running Podcast, I'll Have Another with Lindsey Hein. I was very honored and humbled that Lindsey was graciously willing to interview me on my inaugural Podcast. With an extensive running resume, in addition to her weekly podcast, she is also a running coach, a public speaker and the mom to four boys. She has added her voice to the running community through her podcast; named as one of iTunes' "New and Noteworthy" podcasts. Lindsey has interviewed some of America's most influential and accomplished runners including Shalane Flanagan, Kathrine Switzer, Deena Kastor and the 2018 Boston Marathon women's winner, Des Linden. Lindsey's laid-back, conversational style has won her a loyal following. What started as a passion project, has turned into a career that she continues to develop and grow. An accomplished runner herself, Lindsey has completed 14 marathons with a personal record of 3:11, and a half Iron Man. She is married to Glenn her husband of 10 years who she often trains and races with. They now write personal training plans! You can find out more about Lindsey on her website lindseyhein.com. And definitely subscribe to her weekly podcast. Thank you Lindsey! It was indeed a treat! I look forward to interviewing you on my podcast in the near future!
Vince DiCroce When Lindsey Hein was interviewing me, she asked what my most memorable marathon was and I was not prepared for what happened. After thinking about it for a bit with so many memories over the years, it came to me that it was my 100th Marathon at The Colorado Marathon in Fort Collins, Colorado. As I crossed the finish line to the cheers of my running friends and spectators, Vince DiCroce was waiting for me. Vince was at the very end of his life, in the final stages of brain cancer that came back after several years in remission. Vince wanted to see me reach my goal of 100 Marathons. He passed away 3 weeks later. When I thought about it, this moment came immediately to my memory and I got choked up during as I was talking about that moment. It humbled me to the core and what was most important was not just completing my 100th marathon, it was that Vince found the energy to see me finish. Vince was and still is an inspiration to many of us and I want to keep his memory alive, every chance I get. You can read Vince's blog, ...And So It Begins Again, which is a journal of when his cancer came back and his thoughts,...
03 Dec 2018 | Malia Crouse – An Amazing Runner Giving Back to Running! | 01:05:03
Hello Runners, Welcome to Episode #3 of Feel Good Running. I appreciate you listening and hope you are enjoying the podcast. I’m working hard to bring you a show that is motivating, inspirational and entertaining. There are many running podcasts out there so thanks for giving us a chance. I welcome your feedback and suggestions on possible topics. And if you like this podcast I hope you subscribe and give us a nice review. This episode I interview my good friend Malia Crouse. Malia is actually from Maui but ventured off island to go to college and ended up in Denver for 10 years. She eventually fell into the Colorado running scene. Malia is nothing short of an outstanding runner. Fast and focused is how I would describe her. She has won the overall women in a few marathons and also has won several smaller races. If you listened to the first two episodes, and especially Episode #1, you know that my goal for Feel Good Running is to focus on the everyday runner. Though Malia would be considered more of an elite runner compared to us mere mortal everyday runners, she gives back to the running community in so many ways. Two years ago she moved back home to Maui and immediately immersed herself into the Maui running community. She started a little business, the Maui Running Company. She puts on two Sunday runs per month with participation not only from locals but also visitors. Malia put on an ultra event in the summer of 2018, is the Assistant Race Director of the Maui Marathon and is on the board of directors of the Valley Isle Road Runners, the local running club on Maui. Malia is such a joy to be around, and her infectious personality will certainly rub off on you. If you are ever on Maui, treat yourself and join her run on a Sunday. I’m honored to be her friend, and I know you will enjoy my interview with her. In addition to my interview with Malia, I talk about the Boston Marathon qualification times and a little off the subject discussion on the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody. I thought it was awesome, and Rami Malek played lead singer of Queen, Freddie Mercury just spot on. And of course we have a few running news items. Thanks again for listening. And I always say, just "show up" and always feel good about your running! -Jim

03 Dec 2018 | Dr. Karen L. Ostlund – A True “Feel Good Runner!” | 00:58:30
Hi Runners, I hope you enjoyed Episode #1 and now know a little more about me. Lindsey Hein is a great interviewer and was wonderful to speak to. Please give a listen to her podcast, I'll Have Another with Lindsey Hein. In Episode #2, we get to the format of Feel Good Running starting with a little blabbing by me with my thoughts. My friend recently sent me an Email that he went into Atrial Fibrillation the day after a triathlon and mentions his GPS & Apple Watch saved his life. He said this is common for older athletes. I'm not sure the age range that my audience will be when the podcast grows but this is a good discussion for any age. I talk a little about that. The treat of this episode is my interview with Dr. Karen L. Ostlund. I've been friends with Karen and her husband Fred for a few years now. They come out to Maui from Austin, Texas at least twice a year and join our Wednesday Night Run and we do things outside of running. Karen is a true Feel Good Runner! Besides her passion as a Professor, teaching science at the University of Texas - Austin, her passion is running. Karen has done over 100 marathons, numerous half-marathons, 10 & 5k races, and travels extensively to run them--many with friends. It seems every time I see her Facebook Post, she is running a race somewhere. She is also a running coach for Austin Fit. In addition to all the running Karen does, she and her husband give back by volunteering at local races. What is most amazing, Karen is 79 years old but looks and acts as if she is 45! I hope you enjoy this interview with Karen. She is such an inspiration to everyone she meets! And I finish off the show with an inspirational quote for you to think about. Please share my podcast with all your running friends and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts from that we are on. Thanks for listening and always feel good about your running! -Jim

01 Jan 2019 | Beth Downs – Inspiring Mother Runner | 00:51:25
Hello Runners, Happy New Year! I hope your 2019 will be happy, healthy and prosperous and of course filled with many strong injury free miles. My first interview of 2019 is with my friend Beth Downs. Beth is an amazing runner and her story will not only touch you but will also inspire all that listen. If you are a mom, you will definitely want to listen to this interview. Beth has gone from low self confidence a few years ago and went through a very tough period. Today, she has more confidence than you can imagine! In 2018 she ran 3,539 miles and many of those miles was pushing in her beautiful little girl Ella in the jogger. She is a spin instructor at the Maui Powerhouse Gym and a Ambassador for Mind Over Matter Athlete. I think the world of Beth and you will too once you hear her story. In this episode I also go into New Year Running Resolutions. Most of us don't stick with them... Surprise! So if you are an existing runner that would like to become stronger and faster in 2019 or if you are a want to start running, I give one piece of advice that will increase your chances of sticking with it. Join a local running group! Yes...a running group. I spent several years of my life running by myself but when I joined a running group, my entire world changed. My running became more fun and I met some of the most wonderful people on the planet that are very solid friends to this day. I've seen many lives change once they joined a running group. Even here on Maui, I could tell you story after story of what our running group has done for people. Sure you may feel uncomfortable when you first show up but you will find that runners will welcome you with open arms and you will soon feel like family. I give some tips on how to find a running group in your area. So just show up! During the inspirational and motivational news segment, I talk about two young men, 8 year old Nate Viands and 12 year old Riley Herradura that both recently completed a marathon but have incredible stories behind them. And an update on Gene Dykes who was attempting to break the 70-74 age group world record. Thank you everyone who is listening to my Podcast and really hope you are enjoying it. To build the show, it would be very helpful if you subscribe through Apple Podcasts and leave a review. And if you can share this podcast with all your running friends that would be a great help! 18 Jan 2019 | Ben Blowes – Guinness Book of World Records Holder! | 00:54:08
Hello Runners! Runners, you are now over halfway into January of 2019. How are you doing? If you committed to a new years resolution, specifically a running resolution are you sticking with it and seeing results? My resolution of "Dry January" does not specifically pertain to running, but certainly seems to be benefitting indirectly my running. What is dry January? Well, it's going one full month without drinking alcohol and like many runners, I do like beer and specifically a craft IPA. So far, I'm right on pace, feeling great and running stronger. My mind is clearer and I seem to have more energy which is a definite plus. Another benefit to "Dry January" is the waistline seems to be shrinking, though I don't really have a large waistline. Well, many thanks to all of your for listening to the Feel Good Running Podcast thus far. The show seems to be picking up steam and there are more downloads each week, which means more listeners. I'm very grateful to each of you and please consider sharing it with your friends and on social media! If you subscribed through Apple Podcasts, I'd really appreciate you providing a rating which will help the show grow. If you have not done so already, please get on our Email list so you can keep up with what is going on. I promise not to bombard you with useless Emails. Ben Blowes from the UK is our special interview this week and he is a Guinness Book of World Records holder. He ran the 2017 London Marathon with a 55 lb (25 kilo) tumble dryer strapped to his back. Man, running a marathon is hard enough but seriously, I can truthfully say, that was never a thought in my mind. Apparently there are others in the UK that also run with household appliances strapped to their back. "Tony the Fridge" and "Paul the Tumble." are well known in the UK but don't hold any records, at least that I know of. Seriously, there is much more to Ben than just this amazing accomplishment and we had a wonderful conversation. I know you will enjoy it! Also in this episode I get on my soapbox and talk winter a bit and about my complete dislike for the treadmill or "dreadmill" as I like to call it. Recently, I found an article titled "9 ways to make running on a treadmill WAY more fun" written by Jody Braverman. I slice up and explain these 9 WAYS up in a humorous way. I also share some running news featuring three recent stories that I found worth sharing with the tribe. with three amazing people, Michael Waltrip (not the race car driver), Calix Fattmann and Adrianne Haslet. And of course, the episode closes with a motivational running quote for you to think about during your run. Motivational quotes are my jam! Currently, you can expect two podcast episodes per month to enjoy and as the show grows and I'm hoping to increase to weekly episodes. As you all know, we all must make a living and having enough time can be a factor. The great thing about podcasts is they are FREE and I've recorded and lined up some great interviews that I'm very excited to share with you. If you or someone you know has an inspirational story about running or giving back to the running community, please consider going to the main page of the website. There you can type in a brief summery in the section provided and I will be sure to get back to you. Thanks again for listening, enjoy this episode and remember to always, ALWAYS feel good about YOUR running! ~ Jim

01 Feb 2019 | Peter Sagal – The Incomplete Book of Running! | 01:17:52
Hello Feel Good Runners, Winter is in full swing and that certainly is a motivational deterrent resulting in less outside running...especially since there is a polar vortex choking parts of mainland USA. So since you are hunkered down in your igloo, what would be better than grab a blanket, strike up a fire in the fireplace and listen to this episode of the Feel Good Running Podcast. Peter Sagal, host of the Peabody Award winning news quiz Wait Wait...Don't Tell me on National Public Radio, is my guest for this episode. I am so humbled and honored to have had this opportunity to spend some time speaking with him and to share it with you. Aside from his day job, Peter is also a marathon runner and his new book, The Incomplete Book of Running is a wonderful read. Since this is a running podcast, we talk about, well, running! His book is very well written and is a journey though some of the struggles in his life with weight, depression and a painful divorce. Through all of it, running is the glue that kept him motivated and moving forward. Peter gracefully intertwines his stories and weaves in and out through his personal issues and running stories as you move through each chapter. You will enjoy his humor but also feel his pain and experience his selflessness and running accomplishments. So the next thing you need to do while you are hunkered in your igloo curled up, (or maybe lucky enough to be on a beach in the warm sunshine) is download The Incomplete Book of Running at Amazon! In this episode I also talk about my favorite weekly run on Saturday but segue into female runners safety. It breaks my heart to hear about female runners that are hassled, harmed or killed as they are out enjoying a run. In 2018, we all lived through the national media following the search for University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts who never returned from her run that day. Everyone including us runners were hoping she would be found alive but as each day went by with no sign of her, our thoughts succumbed to the inevitable that she was most likely gone. This happens way too often and it sucks that there are male predators out there looking to attack and harm female runners. It is unacceptable. The internet is filled with safety tips for female runners. I talk about a few, especially the Emergency SOS feature available on Galaxy and iPhones that can be an absolute life saver. I list some links below for you. The news segment of the podcast features two wonderful stories, Stefan LeRoy and George Chernowski who both ran the Disney Marathon this year. You will find each of their stories inspiring. And, I was at the Maui Oceanfront Marathon on the course supporting my friend Beth Downs who PR'd. Check out Episode #4 and my interview with Beth. I was also able to get a few comments from some of the runners at the finish. It was a beautiful day and the whales were definitely jumping and putting on a show for the runners! And of course, I end the show with a motivating running quote to finish off the show! This week from olympic medalist and American record holder, Deena Kastor. Finally, I am starting a periodic Feel Good Running Newsletter. I will only send it out to inform you of an upcoming...
15 Feb 2019 | Linda Jerome – True Inspirational Runner! | 01:09:42
Hello "Feel Good" Runners! How are you? And how is your running going so far in 2019? Good I hope! Well each and every day it is staying lighter longer and in just a few short weeks, the time will change and eventually spring will be in the air! From my neck of the woods, Maui, it appears this winter has been quite rough in many areas of the USA. Heck, we even had snow on our island. Yes, snow on Maui! So, hang tough a little longer! Linda Jerome is an everyday runner. She has not set a running world record, won a marathon, been featured on the cover of Runners World magazine or has 100,000 social media followers. However, just like most of us everyday runners, she loves running and is winning in her daily life. She did not start running until a few years ago when she turned 60! It’s stories like Linda’s that inspire me and motivates me to keep moving mile after mile. I am honored to have Linda as my guest for this episode and we had a wonderful conversation. Though it was recorded in early 2018 when I was first developing the Feel Good Running podcast, it is very relevant and Linda continues on her running journey here on Maui day after day, mile after mile and step-by-step. She inspires many of us just by who she is and what she has accomplished and you will know exactly why when you hear our conversation. We all love her here on the island and so will you! And after you listen, click on Linda's Facebook Page and leave her a word of encouragement. If you have been listening, you know I love inspirational running stories. We all have our reasons why we run and our personal story is unique to ourselves. Since the show is growing, some of you have sent me your story and appreciate each of them. If you have a story you would like to share, go to the main page of feelgoodrunning.com. There is a place for you to share your story. Who knows, I may read it in a future episode and maybe even have you on as a guest. That said in this episode I read a very moving story from Katie Brotten from Seattle. Blown away is all I can say! There was incredible response received from Episode #6 and the subject of female running safety. With spring around the corner, this is such an important subject and your comments really touched me. Just on Maui this has already resulted in the organization of a women’s self defense class specifically focused on female running safety. Powerhouse Gym in Kihei, Maui will host a female self defense and running safety tips session on March 30th and will be taught by Tasha Ina Church, a certified self-defense instructor. And mark your calendar; I will have Tasha on as my guest in Episode #9 to be released on March 15, 2019. So listeners, I challenge you to organize a woman’s self defense class with running safety tips in your area. The prevention of just one attack or saving the life of one woman’s life as a result is more than worth it. Let’s get this started! And send me a note it you do set one up in your area! I would like to hear how it goes. During this episode I also reach out to you about my lack of experience with social media and the frustrations I am having trying to figure it out. Instagram seems to be the flavor of the month and I have no idea how to use it. So I am reaching out to you listeners for tips, suggestions and help on how I can learn and become proficient or at least pretend like I am. Can’t say I am the smartest tool in the toolbox when it comes to this stuff! Send me a Email to jim@feelgoodrunning.com with any HELP! There is much more including our running news segment. So enjoy this episode and share on social media and...
05 Mar 2019 | Yasir Salem – The Race of His Life! | 01:56:37
Hello "Feel Good" Runners! Happy March and hope you are reaching all your running goals thus far this year. It is coming up on spring race season with several full and half-marathons over the next three months. It is tough running during the winter, but soon all that hard work will pay off. Well this episode will be an extended version. Yasir Salem is my guest and he is in the race of his life. Last year, he lost his wonderful, beautiful and talented wife Gweneviere Mann to lung cancer. This story is so much more. Gweneviere survived a brain tumor several years back when they were just dating. During the surgery, she suffered a complication which affected her memory. We discuss the effects and recovery process in-depth during our conversation. The lung cancer on the other hand, came on suddenly last year and spread rapidly and she lost her battle just a few short months later. Yasir is now running 50 marathons in 50 weeks in all 50 states to honor her. And...through this he is bringing awareness to cancer and to the Gweneviere Mann Foundation that they formed just prior to her passing. They both ran marathons together, a passion they discovered and shared during her recovery from brain surgery. So what better way for Yasir to bring awareness to such a devastating disease such as cancer by doing something extraordinary in a sport they both loved. As a side note, Yasir was a competitive eater and was in the top ten of the annual Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest and several year title holder of the Tour de Donut bicycle race. Listen to find out more about that! This entire conversation is relevant to this incredible love story between Yasir and Gweneviere. And please check out the links below, especially the Committed Podcast. Gweneviere and Yasir discuss her brain surgery and the effect from it in this very well done podcast. Shortly after they recored this podcast early last year, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. You will get to know and hear the story first hand from them both. A few weeks ago I was in Honolulu to attend the Great Aloha Run Expo to promote the Maui Marathon. I also ran the race on Monday February 18th, which was a 8.2 mile run from Aloha Tower and finishing inside the Aloha Stadium. This is the same stadium were the annual Pro-Bowl was before they decided to bring it back to the mainland. What a great run and an honor to run with so many of our fine service men and women. If you are ever in Honolulu in February, consider doing this run. You and 16,000 of your closest friends will have a great time! The main item I talk about is running shoes. Yes running shoes. Does it drive you nuts when you find a pair of running shoes that you really like that fit perfectly on your feet and then the next version comes out and they change it entirely? Well it does me! And I scour the Internet to scarf up a couple pairs before they disappear. Since we do not have a running or sports store on Maui, I purchase mine on-line from Road Runner Sports. They have an excellent return policy which you can try them for 90 days and return if they are not working. And if you live in a market where there is a physical Road Runner Sports store, they recently introduced a new technology to find the perfect running shoe...the 3D Fit Drone. Finally, I briefly talk about the...
20 Mar 2019 | Tasha Ina Church – Professional Self-Defense Instructor | 01:20:40
Hello “Feel Good” Runners! How are you listeners? Is your running going well? The spring 2019 race season is here and all that winter training should be paying off. There are so many races this time of the year for you to choose from and of course next month is the Super Bowl of marathons, Boston. If you are signed up for any spring race good luck! Now if you are new to running congratulations and welcome to our world. By now you should be finding out by how incredible running is and experiencing all the positive effects it has on your mind, body and soul! Well, I am in Denver, Colorado and it has been cold and snowy therefore I’ve not had a chance to do much running the past few weeks due to the weather. Such a contrast from Maui. However, I was able to run with my former running group, Runners Edge of the Rockies two times and caught up with some of my old running friends which I enjoyed. Plus I ran the St. Patrick’s Day, “Running of the Green” in downtown Denver. One of my favorites. With the massive Bomb Cyclone snow and windstorm that hit Denver, my flight was cancelled and I have been stuck here for a week. That is fine since I get to spend more time with family and my little Grandson who is 21 months old. He is a blast and looks to be a future runner! I’ll be heading to the Los Angeles Marathon Expo at the Maui Marathon booth to promote our event. The expo is on Friday March 22nd & Saturday March 23rd. Stop by and say hi if you happen to be doing the LA Marathon and are at the Convention Center to pick up your packet. Would love to meet you. And I will have my podcast equipment so if you or someone you know has a inspirational story that our listeners would like to hear, drop me a note at jim@feelgoodrunning.com and I might do a quick on the spot interview. This episode, my guest is Tasha Ina Church. Tasha is a professional Self-Defense Instructor and has 17 years of experience. With the spring and summer months upon us, most of us will be running outside. It’s unfortunate that female runners need to be aware of their surroundings when running alone. Tasha provides a wealth of safety and self-defense information, tips and techniques to increase your odds of survival if you should encounter an unexpected unpleasant situation. Actually, I feel this is the most important and beneficial conversation you will hear this year. Tasha even offers a on-line self defense course with a $20 discount for our listeners. This is one episode you will most definitely want to share with your friends. If our conversation prevents one attack or harm to a female runner, then it is all worth it! DON’T MISS THIS ONE! In the opening I talk about my trip to Denver and some fun items that I found in Colorado Running Magazine. You will get a kick out of it. And I have three news items that I think you will find inspirational and motivating. Besides my conversation with Tasha, I end the episode with a motivational running quote. Feel Good Running Podcast is growing because of you and I thank you. Please keep sharing the podcast with your friends and on your social media platforms and (hint, hint) a nice review and rating on Apple Podcast will certainly attract new listeners to the podcast. Thank you for all your support and listener ship! Finally, please be sure you get on the Email list for our periodic newsletter! And again, I appreciate each and every one of you that listen to my podcast! Running is my passion and I enjoy bringing you this podcast to you...
07 Apr 2019 | Liz Roux – Life Defined by Choices NOT Circumstances | 01:41:19
Hello "Feel Good" Runners! Well it is hard to believe it is already April! This year is flying by and spring is definitely in the air. After a long winter, runners all over can now peel off the layers and run outside! And April means it is time for the Boston Marathon to be held on Monday April 15th. Good luck to everyone that is running it this year. I hope you have wonderful weather and the stars align for an excellent race! After being stuck in Denver in the Bomb Cyclone storm, I made my way to Los Angeles for the Los Angeles Marathon Expo. I'm Co-Race Director of the Maui Marathon and we had a booth at expo and we met so many runners. It was ridiculous fun and I enjoyed seeing the excitement and enthusiasm of each runner and enjoyed our conversations. I love LA! My guest this episode is Liz Roux who will graduate from Harvard College at the end of this May. She was born in China, orphaned at 11 months old, left on a street corner by her parents in hope she would have a better life. Her story is amazing and filled with happiness, sadness, adventure, gratification, reflection, yes! running, and lots of life. I found Liz through a Tedx Talk and her story captivated me and I knew I had to reach out to her. Liz is an intelligent, strong young lady. Please take the time to listen to our conversation. You will be glad you did! In my opening I talk about a new feature on the website...your ability to record up to a 3 minute message. You can tell us your story and how you got into running and why! Or tell us about your favorite run or a personal running accomplishment. And you can leave a comment about the Podcast. I will sort through them and maybe play it on a future episode. Just go to the main page of this website and scroll to the bottom and you will see where you can click. Also, you can just click the tab to the right where it says "Send Voice Message" which may be easier. The opening also includes an update on our first Women's Running Self-Defense class taught by Tasha Ina Church from Episode #9 here in Kihei, Hawaii. We had 18 ladies that learned quite a bit from Tasha and feel they could defend themselves if they were to end up in an uncomfortable or threatening situation. Unfortunately, there was another female runner murdered by a scumbag in New Jersey a few weeks ago. This has to stop. These stories make me sick so ladies please be smart out there. With spring and summer you will be running outside and need to be aware of your surroundings. Consider taking a Self-Defense Class or take Tasha's on-line course. She is providing a limited time $20 discount for Feel Good Running Podcast listeners. We do not financially benefit from Tasha's course. Your safety is what we are interested in. I also talk about a Netflix documentary I recently saw called Roll with Me. It is about Gabriel Cordell, paralyzed from the chest down after a car accident, who rolled his wheelchair across the USA in 100 days. He started in Santa Monica, California and rolled to New Jersey. Amazing documentary and I would like to have him on Feel Good Running as a guest even though it does not pertain to running. His inspiration would motivate everyone! We will see what happens with that. The news segment this week features Katelyn...
22 Apr 2019 | Sam & Lindsey Wilbur – The Running, Traveling & Maui Life! | 01:36:35
Hello "Feel Good" Runners! How is everyone? All good? Running well? As we wind down April, the Boston Marathon is now behind us. The weather seemed to have held up well and some really great running stories came out of the marathon this year. I feature a few of them in my news segment. Congratulations to all of you that participated this year and hope you had a great time. This episode I talk about the Boston Marathon and the news segment include a few inspirational stories from this years race. If you ran it, consider sending a voice message and share how your run was this year. Just click the orange tap on the right of the page and you will have three minutes. My guest's this episode are a wonderful Maui couple, Sam & Lindsey Wilbur. Lindsey is one of the top female runners here on Maui and she also runs marathons. She has completed 18 full marathons and 5 have been Boston. Earlier this month she did the Rotterdam Marathon in the Netherlands. Lindsey's husband Sam is a former runner and had aspirations to be on the Olympic team. A professional runner for New Balance he made 5 USATF National Teams and competed in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic trials in the Steeplechase but got eliminated in the semi-finals each time. Retiring from running in 2002, he now dabbles as an individual running coach and operates a small race management business, Maui Running. This company puts on several corporate fun runs each year on the island. Sam's passion and #1 goal is to travel to every country in the world. He has already traveled to 107 countries out of 196 so he has 89 to go. And he travels expending very little money which he does churning credit cards. Please don't try this unless you are a very detailed person. World Wide Wilbur is Sam's new side hustle. You can find blogs, links and some very good travel tips to help you with your travels and to save money. Runners that travel to races can benefit from the tips found at World Wide Wilbur. With everything going on in Sam & Lindsey's live their most important job is being parents to two wonderful boys! Also during my opening, I talk about my frustration recently heading out for a run and my watch beeps low battery. This is user error on my part and I have no idea what is wrong with me. Post it notes might be my ticket to remember to do things! Aside from talking about this years Boston Marathon, I finish up with some interesting statistics (STATS!) from the recently released 2018 National Runner Survey from Running USA. And finally I thank you so much for listening. I enjoy brining to you this Podcast 2 times per month and hope to expand it more in the future. It does take quite a bit of time and right now we do not have sponsors or any type of income for the show. I do this because I love doing it but hope to attract sponsors in the future. That said, I could really use your help by sharing the Podcast with your running friends and through Social Media. And also important is to leave a review on Apple Podcast! Reviews help to increase exposure for the show and attracts new listeners. So if you can do this for me I can keep bringing you a good running podcast. I appreciate all my listeners! Enjoy Episode #11... And as always...remember to just show up and always, ALWAYS feel good about YOUR running! ~Jim

Hello "Feel Good" Runners! Well it is the middle of May and I am late getting out a fresh episode of Feel Good Running. There is a reason though! I was traveling! The annual Bloomsday Run in Spokane, Washington was held on Sunday, May 5th and we were there at their two day expo promoting the Maui Marathon which by the way will be held on Sunday October 13th. This is an annual anticipated event in Spokane that is now in its 43rd year. This 12K run attracts 40,000 runners and walkers and is the 4th largest run in the USA. It was started in 1977 by Don Kardong and after all those years this will be his last as Race Director. I had a chance to do a quick interview with him and also some vendors and participants while at the expo. And...yours truly ended up running Bloomsday this year and I will say this was one amazing event very well organized and super fun. It was a challenging but great course and I conquered "Doomsday Hill" in which you gain 120 feet of elevation in less than three quarters of a mile. Of course the after party held downtown Spokane was fun and I spent a little time in the beer tent. As for Spokane, the city is wonderful and the people are very friendly. I hope you will have the chance year to do this fine running event. On Maui we have a missing woman. Her name is Amanda Eller and she is 35 years old and is a Physical Therapist and Yoga Instructor. She went for either a run or hike at the Makawao Forest Reserve on Wednesday May 8th and has not been found as of the release of this podcast. If by chance you are on Maui and have any information please call Detective Dennis Clifton at 808-244-6433. And you can contact her friend Sarah who is tracking all leads by either calling or texting. Her number is 415-336-4591. We are all hoping that she will be found alive and safe. Ladies please take time to listen to Feel Good Running Podcast Episode #9. Tasha Ina Church is a Self Defense instructor and during our conversation there are many tips and suggestions for self defense and female running safety. She even has a on-line course. Worth a listen to give you a better chance to stay safe in uncomfortable or dangerous situations. Sometimes, there is a story so inspiring that it will bring you to your knees. My guest this episode has this story and her name is Bonnie VanDeraa from Vinita Oklahoma. On January 23, 2018, Bonnie went through a horrific event that in a respect should have killed her. Her training and skill as a EMT along with her willpower, strength and courage allowed her to survive. Bonnie is a runner and though she has not been able to run since that day, she can walk and on March 3, 2019, walked the entire Little Rock Marathon. After my conversation with Bonnie I have no doubt she will run again! While recovering in the hospital, she was given the nickname "Wonder Woman" and believe me she lives up to that name! You do not want to miss this interview. It will change the way you approach your day and your life for that matter. As always, thank you for listening to the Feel Good Running Podcast. I appreciate you. And your feedback is so welcome. You can click on the orange tab to the right and leave a voice message up to 3 minutes. Let us know how you like the show or tell us about your story or a running accomplishment. We may just include

Hello "Feel Good" Runners! Summer is just about here! From what I have heard it has been a long winter on the mainland so all you runners should be ecstatic! You can now wear your running shorts and a short sleeve shirt and just head out the door. Nice! Remember, it does get hot and humid so drink your fluids, wear sunscreen, and stay hydrated. Most of the spring races are over. There are a few summer marathons and smaller races to enjoy and is a great way to keep your running in check during the summer months . Many of you may be already training for fall races. One thing I remember about summer when I lived on the mainland, it goes by fast. So enjoy the entire summer months. Do all the things you love to do, spend a lot of time outside and most important keep running for sure. Maui has made the national news recently. If you listened to my last episode, it was about 8 days into the search for missing runner/hiker Amanda Eller. I did not sound optimistic of the outcome since she left her phone, keys, purse, backpack and water in her car. And she was presumed lost in the Makawao Forest Reserve. So many rumors, theories, opinions were discussed daily. And honestly, I really thought the outcome would not be good, especially due to the length of time she was out there or possibly abducted. So many volunteers gave up their time to search for Amanda. And the leaders of the search team quickly formed and did an outstanding job organizing the search efforts. They never gave up, they never gave up hope and were there day after day searching along with 50 to 100 volunteers. And then 17 days later Amanda was found alive. A very uplifting story of human strength and determination from all ends. On the other end, another gentleman was missing in IAO Valley here on the island. Noah "KeKai" Mina went to the IAO forest to do some reflecting and did not return. After the search was successfully completed for Amanda, the search team leaders shifted to IAO Valley in search of KeKai. Well, that did not turn out well. They found him deceased. Very sad ending. And somewhat personal for me. I know KeKai's mom Irene who has helped us out at the Maui Marathon heading up an Aid Station and supplying the food for the finish line through Maui's Farmers Union. I feel sad for Irene and the entire family. And may KeKai be at peace. So, I am working on a Feel Good Running Episode with three of the main Search Team Leaders. You probably have seen them in the news during the recovery at some point. We will discuss both Amanda and KeKai searches and how they came together to organize the search and what, in their opinion, made it so effective. Any runner or hiker can get lost in a forest/woods environment and this episode will give a great amount of information to help others organize a search team and have a plan. They will also provide good information if you are going on a solo run or hike in the forest or woods and what to take with you and precautions you can take to prevent getting lost. And if you do happen to get lost, what to do to survive and recommendations so that a search and rescue team, whether the fire or police or private citizens, may find you much faster. Look for this episode by the middle of July! I am so excited for you to meet this episodes guest. Matthew Thayer is the Photojournalist for the Maui News, the newspaper on Maui. And he has held this job for the past 39 years. Matt is also a published author with his 5 book Si-Fi series 30,000 B.C. Chronicles. He
08 Jul 2019 | Amanda Eller Maui Rescue – Core Search Team Unplugged! | 02:06:40
Hi Folks (and runners), On May 8, 2019, a 35 year old woman named Amanda Eller went to the Makawao Forest Reserve hunters trail in Maui Hawaii for a short run or hike. Well as everyone knows, during her hike she veered off the trail for a bit to meditate, closed her eyes to enjoy the peace and serenity of the forest. When she was ready to head back to her car, she ended up on a different trail. After continuing for about an hour and a half, thinking she was heading in the right direction, she became disoriented. And as we all know now, that took her on a long life or death journey in the forest and she was miraculously found alive 17 days later. All after a long intense and grueling search by local citizens which also captivated the world. Everyone has seen and heard from Amanda. And the picture of her rescue was seen around the world. Well, this episode is going to give you an entirely new look, a different perspective into the actual search efforts from start to finish. Elana Pray,Chris Berquist and Javiar Cantellops were the core search team that was formed during the search for Amanda Eller. Chris and Javier were in the helicopter that found her and in the famous photo. Along with hundreds of volunteers, several with special skills, these three individuals were integral to all phases of the search both at base camp and in the forest searching day after day. There is a law in Maui that the Maui Fire and Police departments can continue a search and rescue effort for 72 hours. After that they scale their involvement way down or discontinue it all together leaving it to the family, friends and volunteers to keep it going. Basically it becomes a do-it-yourself search. Chris became the overall leader of the search after Amanda's father, John Eller asked him if he would stay through it all. He is a very intelligent, analytical, methodical professional that is extremely passionate about the outdoors. Also, Chris is very selfless, so much so, he put Amanda and the search above all else and even lost his job. Of course, another door opened for him! Elena is a pure badass and works for Rappel Maui. She became the operations director of the search and rescue, organizing rappellers, search dogs and several other responsibilities. She assisted Chris in providing daily updates. But most of all she was out there rappelling down ravines, canyons and waterfalls just about every day searching for Amanda. Javier, a former US Army Special Operations Ranger, that knew Amanda, appeared at base camp with one goal and one goal only and that was to find his friend. His amazing positive attitude and motivational skills kept the volunteers and the overall search efforts energized. Every day he was out doing everything from rappelling with Elena, deep diving into dangerous waters, and searching tough terrain with local hunter Troy Helmer, Javier was in the helicopter that found Amanda and it was so appropriate that he was the first one to reach her. By the way Javier works for Maui Dream Dives Company as a professional dive instructor. This is a very powerful conversation. It is the first time together, they are able to fully tell their story and is especially captivating as they discuss the day they found her. I'm so honored and grateful that they all came on Feel Good Running and shared their amazing story. I assume there will be many non-runners that will be interested in listening to this episode do to the subject and our guests. So welcome all new listeners and of course our regular listeners. Please share this episode with all your friends, family and

Hello Runners! I am pleased to have Bart Yasso, the "Mayor of Running" as my guest this episode. 11 Nov 2019 | Jason Romero – All Things are Possible! | 02:15:56
Hello Runners, It has been awhile. And I am sorry if you are a regular listener for the gap. It won't happen again! Promise! What has been Going On?I spent most of my energy the past two months as Co-Race Director of the Maui Marathon that was held on Sunday October 13, 2019. I'm glad to say it was a huge success. And then afterward, I took off to Denver, Colorado to visit family, friends and do some Podcast interviews. So I am back in the saddle and you can expect consistency of episodes and some changes for the good! Thank for hanging in! Congratulations to All You Runners!Man, it is hard to believe that the 2019 running season is just about over. I always consider the NYC Marathon as the finale to the major races. However there are still a few races you can catch through the remainder of the year. Now, if you ran a race during the fall, I hope you finished and was satisfied with your results. Running is not so much about time, (well maybe to some), but about the journey as you trained for your race and ultimately successfully crossing the finish line on race day. I've have run 101 marathons and not once in all the years did anyone ask me about my time for any of the races, they just asked what race was my favorite. So if you finished, be very proud! People will be impressed of your accomplishment and that you finished but could care less about your time. You are a rockstar! I'd also like to give a very heartfelt shoutout to all of you who qualified and got into the 2020 Boston Marathon. By adjusting the qualifying times by 5 minutes, I think this helped many more of you to finally get in that qualified. So kudos to the B.A.A. for the adjustment. Guest - Jason RomeroMy guest this episode is a life changer for me. Jason Romero, is the author of Running Into the Dark. Jason has a head spinning running resume. He has completed some of the toughest ultra races such as:
His biggest accomplishment though and what his book centers around is his incredible journey which was Running across the USA, typically called a "transcontinental" run. What is most amazing, Jason is legally blind and he did this journey on a shoestring budget with a shoestring crew which mostly consisted of his mom and the help of some friends that just appeared. He ran 3,063 miles in 59.5 days averaging 51.5 miles per day starting in Santa Monica and finishing in New York City. Jason is the only blind runner to ever run across the USA and he in the top ten of the fastest runners to accomplish this. Less than 300 have accomplished a transcontinental run on foot. Jason's book is amazing and opens up about his life, blindness, struggles, obstacles, failures, setbacks but above all else overcoming it all to be a success!
