This week we watched a movie and for a change, the scenery and the music were good along with the voice actors. The story not so much as it left a lot of questions. But it was certainly comedic in some spots and we both really enjoyed talking about it much more so than watching it. Campione! was not quite what Rick had remembered it being but the series as a whole was good overall. One of the main draws of this show is that they talk about Mythology and really highlight that knowledge is power, especially for our pro-tag Godou. If there is one gripe we have with the series it is the jumping around and or referencing things that we have not seen or had no knowledge of. But despite that, the series was really good. This week we get transported to another world only before we actually get there we get lost in the weeds with random details but after a few minutes we get back on track and then finally get to our destination. And it was an interesting one at that. It takes the normal genre and give the protagonist a set of skills that they had in their previous life but even with that, it ultimately still follows the same tropes for the anime and they also leave out a lot of detail, but even with that it was an entertaining watch. This week's choice was a good revisit for Jack and a good one that made Rick watch it twice. Following the main protag Mima and her journey through becoming a TV star from a Pop-Idol at least that is what you are lead to think at first, but then things take a twist with her manager Rumi pretending to be Mami and eventually thinking that she is Mami and killing everyone that is portraying her in a way that Rumi does not like. It even causes Mami to question her whole outlook and leaves you on the edge until it gives you a satisfactory end. And while watching it for the first run-through may make you miss a few things watching it a second time through will really bring it all together. This is one that both Jack and Rick saw and it certainly was a binge-able anime. This is an adult-oriented style anime, with no nudity just profanity and violence. This show follows Rumia, Sistine, Re-L, and Glenn and how they grow to care for each other in a teacher-student relationship and with Glenn being the teacher while guiding and protecting them. The show as a whole though asks a lot of questions for everyone but in the end, there are no real answers given if there are any answers given at all. This week's choice was given to us on Twitter by @Tobiyashi067. It was a good revisit for Jack and Rick thought it was pretty good too. Even with the open ending, it was still a good watch in prep for season 2 coming out in January 20212. That all being said, this show does not waste time hooking you and making you sit on the edge of your seat. It is also one of the few shows that show you the dangers and what is happening right up front leaving nothing to your imagination. But do not worry it's not one that takes away from the enjoyment of the show and instead, it just gets progressively worse for the protagonists. The animation style is also something that we both found enjoyable especially when it comes to the characters to help convey the emotion then you couple all that with some great music then you are all set for a thrill of a show that will leave you wanting season 2. It starts simple enough a goddess summons a hero from another world to save a different world and while in this new world they go through adventu.... Wait, never mind this hero is so cautious that he actually spends most of the time in the goddess home training before even going to the first town. This show is full of comedy and laughs that will leave your sides splitting. However, the last 2-3 episodes feel rushed and slapped together like they needed to end it. This week as talked about season 2 of Ajin, and honestly, for both of us, it was lacking. The story carried the poor animation, again and it certainly did answer some questions, but it left us with more or made us feel empty due to the lack of resolution from both questions being answered, and how it ended. With that, if you ventured into watching season 1 then you might as well give season 2 a watch to finish it up, and maybe in another 6 years, we will get a season 3. This week we talk about Jormungand season 1 and dives headfirst into the gritty world of arms dealing through the eyes of Koko, a cunning arms dealer backed by a team of seasoned bodyguards, veterans, and Jonah, a young boy-soldier. It explores themes of revenge, morality, weapons trade, giving you a solid story that is packed with action and drama. And the shows unique art style and dual-episode arcs provided engaging mini-stories that give you the feel of several short stories in 1 longer story. Although there were some brief moments that seemed slightly out of place, the series remains a strong recommendation for us if you're looking for an intense, action-packed show that has a decent enough story to go with it. "Another" was a dark tail that gives it a solid conclusion even if it felt like it was rushed overall and the plot holes were not short in supply either. It was one that most certainly left me feeling like the writer was rushed. But it was entertaining overall and if you like something that has a little gore in it then this anime is for you. If you are a tad squeamish then I would suggest that you watch it censored. The next choice is a series called The Magnificent Kotobuki. Have you seen it or any of the previous ones? The pick was inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, but it veered into parody territory, tweaking the original tale to fit the writer’s vision. For Jack, though, it just didn’t hit the mark. The story felt bland—like it was thrown together without a strong, cohesive narrative. Definitely one he wouldn’t revisit. As the title suggests this show is weird. And while it does have its funny moments and a plot that you can follow this show was just weird. It almost felt a bit like Gurren Lagann in terms of the story but it also certainly played on the superhero genre more so from the Power Rangers style of hero. All while wrapping it up with what could be described as a lackluster ending that changed from a superhero-style show to more of a mystery show. For fans of mature anime, Immoral Guild might be entertaining, but it’s definitely not for everyone. One thing the show does get right is its clarity: it answers all the questions it raises, wrapping things up with a satisfying ending and mixing in humor that actually feels pretty natural. This week's choice was a great one. And it was one that Jack's wife lived as well. The artwork was on point the music was on point and the story flowed effortlessly. You have the great makings of a story and it is delivered with flying colors. That being said, if you are looking for the usually magical and fantasy world that you have come to expect from Ghibli then this will disappoint you this is a movie that is more so grounded in reality so the expectation should be of that and nothing more. This week's choice was an interesting one in that this one was a favorite of Rick and a disappointment for Jack. There was enough plot armor in this show to kill a whale. And some of it didn't even make sense. But with that being said it did have a beginning and an ending and the art was good. Where Jack and Rick differ is their view on the story and plot. Regardless they are able to laugh about it and have fun. And it is at least worth at least 1 watch for you to make a choice about it. We are split on this one. Rick loved the show and gave him nothing but good things to say. They Movie had the same animation style as Avatar the Last Airbender and also had some inspiration from Rurouni Kenshin at the same time. But the story felt cookie-cutterish and was predictable but it did not detract from how much Rick liked it. We review this week's choice and it was quite the adventure. Jack didn't really care for it but Rick liked it and it was a good show for him. The story is all about trying to save the world which they are trying but they just are not what it needs. The characters were cookie-cutter-ish. It is a short one and it was easy to get through. The music was one thing we both agreed on and the soundtrack is solid. Next week, we're watching The Vision of Escaflowne, a classic mecha anime about a high school girl who is transported to a fantasy world and teams up with a prince to fight against an evil empire.
