12 Jan 2023First Steps to Homeschooling: Plugging in and Researching Homeschooling00:30:50

When it comes to homeschooling, isolation is a killer. For a successful homeschooling life, we need a community. Even for homeschoolers who are just starting out, whether or not you plug in will determine your success. Laws and regulations regarding homeschooling vary not only from country to country but also state to state! It is extremely important to know what to research, where to go, and how to understand and practically apply what you learn.  Join Nadine today as she discusses, in detail, the next steps to a successful homeschooling experience: Plugging in and Researching homeschooling. And make sure to stay tuned until the end for our question of the episode this week: Who are some famous homeschoolers?

Resources mentioned:
hslda.org
instagram.com/world_homeschoolers

List of things to research: (these can also be answered by your homeschooling community)

1. What are your requirements for homeschooling in your state/country? Are there things you can and cannot do in my state/country?

2. What do I need to turn into my education officials for homeschooling? Any Notifications, affidavits or medical records?

3. How do I go about withdrawing from my public school?

4. What homeschooling in high school looks like in your state?

The time has come in your homeschooling journey to choose your path. Join Nadine in this episode as we explore the many different ways to homeschool in high school. But in the end, the best path for you is based on your skills, past experiences, goals, and interests.  And remember, there is no "wrong” way to homeschool, but not everything is going to work for you. Sometimes you have to travel down the wrong road to know which one is right.

27 Jul 2023Teaching High School Science from Home | Dr. Jay Wile & Discovering Design00:41:49

One of the main questions proposed to high school homeschoolers is "How are you possibly going to learn upper-level science from home?" To some it seems like an impossible task. But that is far from the truth! High School science certainly was a concern for my family until we discovered Dr. Wile and his homeschool science curriculum. Dr. Wile is a nuclear chemist invested in creating quality science curriculum for homeschoolers and also encouraging the homeschooling community through speaking and teaching. Through his curriculum, my entire family has grown to love and excel in science. Join me (Nadine) today,  as I receive the privilege of interviewing Dr. Jay Wile. 11 Aug 2023Dive into High School Math | Dr. David Shormann & Shormann Math00:33:05

Math can often be a frightening subject in homeschooling, especially when it comes to high school and studying for standardized tests or taking AP classes. A common misconception about homeschoolers is that we are unable to pursue advanced math courses and are unprepared for the SAT and other college entrance exams. However,  that is simply not true due largely in part to teachers like Dr. David Shormann. Using his extensive knowledge of math and science, Dr. Shormann has created incredible math and science curriculums dedicated to preparing students to succeed in college and beyond! We are so grateful to Dr. Shormann for taking the time to talk with us today, sharing more about his curriculum and advice for successfully teaching math in high school. My family has been using Shormann math for 3 years, and it has been a huge blessing in our lives and has led me to consider pursuing engineering in college. You will not want to miss this episode!

21 Jun 2024Conquering Standardized Testing | Regina Gravrok & CLT01:04:29

I get asked very frequently about how homeschoolers can prepare for and take standardized tests (especially SAT, ACT, and CLT) successfully. In todays episode featuring Regina Gravrok, the Homeschool Partnership Manager at the Classic Learning Test (CLT) and a homeschool graduate, we cover how homeschoolers can not only conquer college entry exams, but use them to make their college dreams a reality.

The Classic Learning Test is "hacking" the teach-for-the test method that dominates conventional schools today. There is no special book or curriculum to prepare for the test. You prepare by having a good education - one rooted in the ideas of traditional, classic education and one that focuses on the formation of the whole student: mind, body, and spirit. We discuss all of this in more detail throughout the interview!

Thank you to Regina Gravrok and the CLT for being a part of the podcast!
