00:47:55
Hi everyone! In this 1st full length episode I explain what a narcissist actually is. We also answer the question "What is a Flying Monkey, and how the narcissist uses them to abuse you.
I unpack.... * What is a narcissist? * Covert vs Overt Narcissists * Who can be a narcissist? * What if I don't have a diagnosis *Can the narcissist change? *Who and what are Flying Monkeys? * Who can be a Flying Monkey? * Are all Flying Monkeys toxic? *Should I go no contact with the Flying Monkeys as well?

Can a narcissist love you?
00:47:26
In this week's episode, I answer the crucial question: "Can a narcissist love you?"
It's hard to believe that someone who professes to love you could be so cruel, but what's even more horrifying is the possibility that your entire relationship was built on lies and the love you felt was entirely one-sided. Understanding the complexities of narcissistic relationships can be overwhelming, but I'm here to help you make sense of it all.
I unpack:
What love means to the narcissist Discover the unique and often twisted perception of love from a narcissist's perspective.
What a narcissist means when they say, "I... LOVE... YOU." Learn the true intent behind a narcissist's declaration of love and how it differs from genuine affection.
Did they ever love you? Explore whether a narcissist is capable of true love or if their emotions are merely a facade.
How to differentiate between "LOVEBOMBING" and genuine affection Understand the signs of love bombing and how to distinguish it from someone who genuinely wants to make you happy.
Do they love you if they only make you miserable a small percentage of the time? Delve into the confusion of intermittent positive reinforcement and its impact on your perception of love.

Am I the narcissist? Unveiling reactive abuse tactics
Why do victims in toxic relationships with narcissists often ask themselves 'Am I the narcissist?' This pervasive question arises because victims of narcissistic abuse are frequently manipulated into feeling like the abuser through tactics like Reactive Abuse and DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender). This is the question we answer in this life changing episode.
In this episode, we delve into this crucial question that plagues survivors of narcissistic abuse and domestic violence, providing comprehensive answers.
We explore:
What is Reactive Abuse? Understand how victims are provoked into reacting, which is then used against them.
What is DARVO? Explore the tactic where offenders deny the abuse, attack the victim's credibility, and reverse the roles to portray themselves as victims.
How does a narcissist use Reactive Abuse and DARVO to manipulate victims into believing they're the abuser? Uncover the psychological tactics used to distort reality and victim-blame.
How can we distinguish between the true abuser and the victim when both parties exhibit toxic behaviors? Examine the complexities of identifying the dynamics in abusive relationships.
How do narcissists manipulate others into believing they are the victim? Explore the strategies used to garner sympathy and support while concealing their abusive behaviors.
Do narcissists ever question if they themselves are narcissistic? Discuss whether narcissists introspect on their behavior and self-image.
How can we educate others about DARVO and Reactive Abuse to prevent unjust restraining orders against victims? Highlight strategies for raising awareness to support true victims and prevent further harm.

Police response to domestic violence - With special guest Police Detective Brandon Wootan
00:57:10
Why do victims of domestic violence not trust the police? A Detective Police Officer discusses the way forward with his empathic and professional model to stem the global epidemic of domestic violence.
An understanding of coercive Control, domestic violence, narcissistic abuse are not issues that the average person associates with police. Historically, discrimination, racism, and domestic violence stereotypes suggest the police 'have no idea' and take the situation in front of their domestic violence call out, for what it seems.
In this episode I discuss with Detective Police Officer Brandon Wootan the gaps in helping victims of domestic violence, not only with the first call from the victim, but an understanding, empathic response that validates the victim’s trauma and helps them to realise a better and more worthy ffuture. (Apologies for the audio quality! There was no capacity whatsoever to reduce noise reduction. The discussion however, between myself and Brandon on the other side of the world will be worth it!)

How do you tell if someone is a narcissist?
00:40:24
How do you spot a narcissist? The emotional scars left by these toxic individuals are profound, and the mere thought of encountering another narcissist can be terrifying. Unfortunately, spotting a narcissist isn't as straightforward as we'd like—it’s not like they wear a sign that says "Stay Away!" The overuse of the word "narcissist" in society often dilutes the experiences of true victims, making it harder to recognize genuine narcissistic abuse. So how do you tell if the person in front of you is someone you can take at face value, or they're someone who is manipulating you? When you have been in a relationship with a narcissist you want to know how to protect yourself. You 'fell for it' once and you know what narcissistic abuse does to you and you want the heads up so it NEVER happens to you again!
In this episode we unpack.... * Can you easily spot a narcissist? * What sort of narcissist are you more likely to recognise immediately? * How do you take precautions when you're not sure if they're a narcissist? * What signs should you look out for when you're unsure if they're a narcissist? * Do narcissists always reveal themselves straight away? And much, much more!

Why do Narcissists get married?
00:41:13
Why Do Narcissists Get Married?
Why would a narcissist pursue marriage when they lack empathy and struggle with genuine connection? In this revealing episode of Fake Love and Flying Monkeys, I uncover the hidden motivations behind a narcissist's desire to walk down the aisle. It’s rarely about love—marriage is a tool for control, status, and securing a long-term supply of validation.
We explore how narcissists use marriage to trap their victims, often pressuring them into having children to further solidify control and create a permanent tie. Marriage, for the narcissist, isn’t just about manipulation; it's also about projecting an image of normalcy and respectability to the outside world. By appearing like the perfect spouse and parent, they can continue their covert abuse while maintaining a façade of being a loving partner.
This episode is a must-listen for anyone wanting to understand the insidious ways narcissists use relationships to serve their own needs while disregarding their partner’s well-being. (BTW. You'll know what I mean when you listen to it, [can't delete it and reupload], I meant "stake a claim. NOT claim a stake"!) Oops. When the Narcissist is Nice to You: Is it Real?
00:38:53
When the Narcissist is Nice to You: Is it real?
In this episode, we dive deep into why narcissists are nice to you—and it’s rarely out of genuine care. Narcissists often use selective kindness as a calculated tactic to keep you invested in the relationship, but these “nice” moments are usually just a way to manipulate and control. It’s important to remember that the percentage of nice times never compensates for the overwhelming bad times. In this episode, we break down how this inconsistency leads to trauma bonding and why you should never measure a relationship by the few good moments. Learn how to see through these narcissistic tactics, recognize when kindness is just another tool for control, and gain the strength to protect yourself from the cycle of narcissistic manipulation. Whether you’re dealing with a narcissist in a personal or professional setting, understanding this behaviour is crucial to breaking free from their hold.

Is the Narcissist the same as a Cult Leader?
In this episode we take a deep dive into the striking parallels between narcissists and cult leaders. Narcissists, much like cult leaders, create an environment where they exert extreme control, manipulating their victims into loyalty and compliance. We’ll explore how narcissists use charm, fear, and manipulation to isolate their targets, breaking down their sense of self-worth to gain complete control. We also discuss how narcissists slowly build a “following,” surrounding themselves with enablers and flying monkeys to maintain their power. By examining these similarities, we’ll uncover why narcissists thrive in these power dynamics, using psychological manipulation to draw people in and keep them under their influence.

In this episode of Fake Love and Flying Monkeys, we dive deep into a question that so many victims of narcissistic abuse wrestle with: Should you tell the narcissist how they hurt you? While it might feel like confronting the narcissist could bring you closure, clarity, or even an apology, the reality is often far more damaging. How do you Survive a Narcissistic Relationship?
00:42:33
How do you Survive a Narcissistic Relationship?
In this episode, we're unpacking some of the most complex coping mechanisms people develop when they’re stuck in a narcissistic relationship: rationalising the abuser’s behaviour, blaming themselves, and defending the narcissist. Coping mechanisms like minimizing and denial often develop as a way to survive the constant chaos. These survival techniques are incredibly common but often misunderstood, leaving many people feeling confused, stuck, and isolated. I dive deep into why these behaviours develop, how they protect us in the short term, and why they can ultimately hold us back from true healing. Understanding why these survival mechanisms develop is essential to making positive changes.

Scapegoat Child vs Golden Child: How These Toxic Family Roles Impact Adulthood
00:33:19
Scapegoat Child vs Golden Child: How These Toxic Family Roles Impact Adulthood.
In this episode I dive deep into the family roles of the scapegoat child and the golden child—two powerful, often toxic dynamics that can shape a person’s life well into adulthood. If you grew up feeling like the "black sheep" of the family, constantly blamed or criticised, or if you were always the “favoured” one, given praise and special treatment, you may have lived these roles. I look at how these dynamics affect relationships, career paths, self-esteem, and overall mental well-being as an adult. I break down how the narcissistic parent or dysfunctional family system uses these roles to create control, tension, and division among siblings. I unpack the psychological impact of these roles, whether you identify with the scapegoat child, the golden child, or somewhere in between.

No Contact with a Narcissist means cutting ties with their Family too.

No Contact with a Narcissist means cutting ties with their Family too.
"No contact" with a narcissist includes distancing yourself from their family and friends as well. Cutting ties with a narcissistic partner, parent or friend is difficult enough, but then you have to think of those shared connections—their family members, mutual friends, and even those who may act as "flying monkeys" to gather information or sway your decisions.
In this episode i unpack why it’s essential to set boundaries not only with the narcissist but also with anyone in their circle who might enable their behaviour. I discuss the layers of manipulation that can exist within family networks, why some family members continue to defend or excuse the narcissist, and how they can become unwitting (or sometimes willing) participants in the narcissist's attempts to keep control of your mind.
This episode provides crucial insights for anyone struggling with the decision to go no contact. Learn how to protect your peace, rebuild your life on your own terms, and take steps to heal without interference from those who may still be loyal to the narcissist.

How Do You Know If It's Narcissistic Abuse?
In this episode I dive deep into one of the most challenging questions facing victims and survivors of emotional abuse: "How do you know if it’s narcissistic abuse?" Recognising narcissistic abuse can be confusing, especially when manipulative behaviours are masked by charm, seemingly innocent comments, or even grand gestures. Many survivors find themselves questioning their own reality, blaming themselves, or wondering if they’re simply "too sensitive". Understanding Narcissistic Future Faking

Understanding Narcissistic Future Faking
In the beginning, the narcissist will sweep you away by painting a dazzling picture of your future together—talks of marriage, kids, dream holidays, or maybe that forever home. But then, as time goes on, none of it ever materialises. That’s future faking, a manipulative tactic narcissists use to hook you emotionally while avoiding any real commitment.
In this episode, I explain how future faking works and why it’s such a powerful tool in the narcissist’s playbook. By dangling a "perfect future" just out of reach, they keep you invested and distracted while their behaviour doesn’t match their promises. I explore the devastating emotional toll this takes on victims, from shattered dreams to self-doubt and confusion.
I explain why and how narcissists use future faking to control their relationships, and how to protect yourself from falling into their traps. Whether you’ve experienced this in a romantic relationship, a family dynamic, or even at work, this episode is packed with practical advice to help you break free and rebuild your trust in yourself.
Tune in for a deep dive into this toxic tactic, and learn how to see through the lies and take back your power!
