16 Mar 2022 | P.R.A.Y. to Be Genuine - 104 | 00:20:09
I've been at the National Religious Broadcasters conference this past week. My experiences there made me think about people and how they pitch themselves to others. There's a time and a place for pitching yourself, such as in a job interview. But, I think as Christians, we have to be careful of constantly self-inflating or making sure that people around us know how great or wonderful or accomplished we are. We want to teach our children to be discerning about this as well. Our purpose is to elevate Jesus, not ourselves. We don't have to self-elevate because God equips us for what we need to do. We need to be living a life that is promoting and causing other people to see the Lord because it's not about us. We need to be teaching this truth to our children as well.
I encourage you use to use the acronym P.R.A.Y. to help you keep your focus on God in these situations. Read the full show notes with links here: https://conniealbers.com/be-genuine/

22 Dec 2021 | The Sexualization of America's Children with Dr. Chris Hughes - 92 | 00:37:52
We’ve heard so much about CRT in the last couple of years, but have you heard about the sexualization of America’s children? Yes. You read that right. This is happening and it’s being funded by the federal government. Dr. Chris Hughes joins me in this episode to talk about this important issue.
As parents, we are responsible for the education of our children. For some, this might mean sending your kids into the public school system. But, choosing this form of education doesn’t mean that you are removed from involvement in what your children are learning. When Dr. Chris Hughes’ kids were growing up, he was paying close attention to what was being taught to his kids in school. He knew who their teachers, principals, and administrators were. He went to the school board meetings. This is when he started learning about the graphic sexual material being taught in schools and saw how few parents were choosing to opt out of this teaching.
Listen in as Connie and Dr. Hughes discuss the Common Sexuality Education curriculum and how you as a Christian parent can respond. Read the full show notes with links here: https://conniealbers.com/sexualization-of-americas-children

30 Jun 2021 | Goal Setting Can Lead to Greater Fulfillment - 68 | 00:31:04
Are you a fan of goal setting? Do goals matter? They should because God has an assignment for you to complete! It's one only you can fulfill if you are willing to accept it.
People often ask me how I know what goals I'm supposed to set. That's not always easy to know at first, so I start by paying attention to what God is leading me to do.
Another common question is how to make them achievable? To make a goal achievable isn't the goal - not really. The goal is to help you get moving in a specific direction.

10 Aug 2022 | Your Child is Uniquely Created (PBTR Part 11) - 125 | 00:27:37
How does your child think? How do they process the world around them? If you have multiple children as I do, you have probably seen that one child can be extremely different from another child in your family. This is because each of your children is uniquely created by God!
This is episode eleven of a series I've been doing on my book, Parenting Beyond the Rules. From the beginning of parenting, I wanted to know how my kids tick and what ticks them off. We have already talked about how the goal is to reach the finish line with your relationships with your children intact. You want them to know that you are their greatest cheerleader and that you are trustworthy. Part of that process is to help each child find how they were uniquely created and this requires a lot of observation on your part.
Let's talk about how to observe and support your kids in finding out who they are uniquely created to be. Read the full show notes with links at https://conniealbers.com/uniquely-created

Has your child been bullied? Do you find out or did they tell you? How do you know if they are dealing with bullying or if it's general conflict that they can resolve? It's vital that children understand the difference between bullying and general conflict so they can properly navigate each scenario wisely. Parents often teach their children to resolve conflict, but the problem is bullies aren't interested in resolution. They are interested domination and intimidation. They seek to hurt or harm others by their actions. As parents we need to learn and teach our children the characteristics of a bully. Parents are rightly concerned when it comes to technology. But unfortunately, devices are often the source of disagreements, threats, and angry outbursts in many families. Kids don't understand the dangers, and parents don't know how to navigate online usage. What do you need to know for raising tech-savvy kids?
In March of 2020, the number of hours children spent online drastically increased. Most kids didn't have a choice. They had to do school virtually, which meant more tech time. And because every activity was canceled, kids needed to "do" something because they couldn't go out the way they were accustomed to. At first, the shock of all the disruption parents found themselves letting their children spend way more time than they've ever allowed before. But now, parents are revisiting their children's digital usage.
Is technology bad? Is the Internet safe? The simple answer to both questions is no. Technology isn't bad; it's neutral. It only does what it's programmed to do. And the Internet isn't safe, but that doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't learn how to use the Internet wisely.
In this episode, we'll focus on two points every parent must consider so that they can raise tech-savvy children who know how to use these powerful tools skillfully.

In the episode last week, I talked about resting vs quitting. So many of you contacted me asking about kids who have a tendency to give up on something too soon. How do you go about teaching kids not to quit?
It's really important to know each of your children as individuals. There tend to be a few basic reasons that kids want to quit and the way you go about helping and encouraging these kids is very different. In this episode, I talk about three different types of kids, why they want to quit, and things to consider as a parent when you're trying to teach kids not to quit.
Each of your children is different, but you are just the parent they need to become who God has created them to be! Read the full show notes with links here: https://conniealbers.com/teaching-kids-not-to-quit

07 Sep 2022 | How to Get Through Trials - 129 | 00:27:32
I've recently come through a very difficult season in my life. Trial after trial kept coming. I couldn't get through most days without at least a few tears or without feeling exhausted. For me, this season carried a lot of death and painful losses. For you, maybe it's saying goodbye to someone you love, a financial situation, or a wayward child. How do you get through trials?
In my 20s, I was full of hope and expectations. My 30s were much of the same, running towards my goals for my life. But trials hit us all at some point in life. I wrote an article on this topic of trials recently in the Homeschooling Today Magazine. I shared how when we're in the midst of trials, it's easy to get discouraged and frustrated. It's hard when we can't accomplish what we're used to accomplishing!

31 Mar 2021 | Is Self-Protection Hurting Your Faith and Friendships? - 55 | 00:33:24
Self-protection isn't new. People disappoint us, so we put up walls. God doesn't answer our prayer, so we stop praying. We deal with pain and suffering by self-protecting. It feels safer. But, is it how Jesus handled pain and suffering? Did he avoid people who hurt him? No. Then maybe we should live by his example.
A friend recently shared something about self-protection from the book 40-Days to Decrease by Alicia Britt Chole. Her text was so good that I had to pull my copy off the shelf and read more.
I found myself wondering if I'm guilty of self-protection. Sadly, I am. Most of us are. I think the longer we live, the more pain and suffering we'll experience, but we have a choice. Put up walls or let our light shine by being different.
In this episode, I share some reasons people self-protect, what God's taught me about not using self-protection to keep others at a distance, and why we should follow Jesus's example.

04 Aug 2021 | Knowing Your Strengths Part 3 - 73 | 00:31:09
Knowing your strengths and your child’s strengths can bring great clarity to you and your child so that everyone can see the masterpiece God designed them to be. While many personality assessments are available, few have the research behind them that StrengthsFinder does. That is based on the work of Donald O. Clifton. The researchers at the Gallup Organization have spent over five decades developing CliftonStrengths. If you missed episodes #71 and #72, go back and listen to them. I explain strengths in greater detail.
Now back to knowing your strengths. You must first understand that all of the 34 talents are good. That’s right! There are no bad ones. Certain strengths aren’t better than others, so dispel that thought now. My goal as a Strengths Practitioner is to help you come to a place of peace, knowing God made you who you are and reminding you that you can’t be excellent at everything! I know many people want to be excellent at everything, but the truth is you can excel at a few things. It’s essential to understand that from the get-go.

Imagine a world where children can navigate the world with confidence, knowing they can trust the people closest to them. In this episode of Equipped To Be, I unpack the core need of every child: trust! A child's ability to trust their parents and caregivers shapes their emotional well-being and social development, and why it is so vital for their overall growth. Trust is essential for children to feel safe, secure, and valued in their relationships with their parents, peers, and, eventually, the broader world. Teaching our children to trust us allows them to build healthy, positive relationships, which is critical for their future. You don't want to miss this episode. 21 Apr 2021 | Don't Let School Drive Out Your Child's Creativity with Dr. Ai Addyson-Zhang Part II - 58 | 00:33:17
Is school driving out your child's creativity? Is a formal degree the only way to a fulling or financially rewarding career? Is your child's degree making your child unhirable?
After fifteen years of teaching college students, Dr. Ai Addyson-Zhang quit her job as a professor.
Kids are taught they need a college education to enjoy a fulling or financially rewarding life. But that isn't true! Dr. Ai believes we might be doing a disservice to our kids by telling them college is the only way to succeed or that college education might be making them unhirable in the real world.
Today's kids need permission to do everything. Kids are so afraid of making a mistake or not getting an "A" that don't try! They don't know how to think on their own. Our current educational system is driving the creativity, innovation, and curiosity out of our children. And we need to change that.
Tune into my conversation with Dr. Ai we discuss the loss of child creativity.

10 Feb 2021 | Launching Your Child AND Maintaining Relationships - 48 | 00:35:32
Launching your child brings a host of emotions. For most parents, it's a bittersweet experience. Feelings of loss, fear, excitement, and satisfaction are some of the more common emotions parents have to work through. But launching your child doesn't mean the end of your relationship or influence. Like most parents, I remember the day we launched our first child. He was eager to begin a new season of life. Starting a new chapter is both exhilarating and scary for a young adult. Tom and I were excited for him, but we were a little sad because it meant our lives were changing too. I've learned the experience of launching a child isn't the same for every child. We were a little more nervous with some than others. Temperament, readiness, and security were on our minds. Recently, we launched our fifth child... Read the full show notes with Connie's tips for launching your child here.

25 Aug 2021 | Your Kids Are Watching You - 75 | 00:29:12
You know that your kids are watching you, right? They are watching and learning from you how to communicate from the time they are little and well past the teen years into young adulthood.
Last week we finished up the series Knowing Your Strengths. We spent four episodes talking about what strengths are, how to discover your strengths, understanding your strengths, and how to use your strengths. You can listen to that conversation in episodes 71, 73, 73, and 74. That series then made me think a little more about how strengths tie into my life now and a recent situation. I needed to talk with one of my daughters and we needed to be able to speak face to face, eye to eye. So I sent a text to set up the meeting.
Listen to the story of that conversation and how strengths can help you be set a solid foundation for relationships with your kids and communicating well. Read the full show notes here: https://conniealbers.com/your-kids-are-watching-you/

18 Jan 2023 | Mending Fractured Sibling Relationships - 148 | 00:28:58
When members of the family live in close proximity and spend a lot of time together, there is bound to be tension in relationships at times. As a parent, you can see those nudges, unkind words, and rolled eyes. You can feel that tension between siblings. You can feel the distance that is growing between the siblings in your family. How do you mend fractured sibling relationships?
My husband and I have instilled into our children that they cannot leave a fractured relationship. Unspoken hurts and broken trust cannot be swept under the rug. We want peace and harmony but that requires doing the hard work of addressing conflicts and tensions. Not addressing sibling conflict is not an option!
In this episode, I share the steps that I take to assess and prepare to take action, how to talk to the children involved, and how to handle oblivious kids. Read the full show notes with links here: https://conniealbers.com/mending-fractured-sibling-relationships

22 Jun 2022 | Foundation of Relationship (PBTR Part 4) - 118 | 00:32:59
My father-in-law is an architect. Years ago, when my kids were little, I was in his office looking at the artwork on the walls. It was a collection of buildings that he had designed. One, in particular, caught my eye. It was a building designed on the side of a mountain with metal posts going into the ground. As I talked to him about it, I learned about foundations and what it takes to know how to build in a situation like this. His answer: the soil. You have to know the soil. It's the same with your kids. To build a strong foundation of relationship with them you have to know their soil and how to best build on that soil.
God created your child to be a masterpiece, as we've already discussed in this series. It's up to you to learn about the soil of each of their hearts to help build a strong foundation in them. You have to become an expert on your child. What gets them excited? What lifts them up? What drives them to tears? Each of your children is different so it's important to adjust your approach so you do not wound the sensitive one but also get through to the strong child.
In this 4th episode in a series about Parenting Beyond the Rules, let's dive into what it takes to build trust with our kids. Read the full show notes with links here: https://conniealbers.com/foundation-of-relationship/

I was recently on Fox 35 Orlando to talk about the pros and cons of sleepovers. It's hard to have an in-depth discussion on a topic like this in four minutes, so I'd like to dig in a little deeper here on the podcast with you. Let's talk about the reasons for and against sleepovers so you can be empowered as the parent to make the best choice that fits your family and each of your kids.
