12 Nov 2019 | Ep. 94 . Professor Andrzej Bartke, PhD: Longevity/Hormone Regulation/Calorie Restriction/Metabolism | 01:01:25
Professor Bartke is the Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Internal Medicine and Physiology at Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois, USA. The focus of his research is on genetic and hormonal control of aging in mammals. His current work is aimed at identifying mechanisms that link reduced growth hormone action with delayed aging and extended longevity. For this work, he is using mutant mice that live longer than normal mice and show various symptoms of delayed aging, including retention of cognitive function and protection from age-related disease. His career includes work at the Jangiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, the University of Texas Health Center at San Antonio, and SIU-Carbondale. He is a past president of the Society for the Study of Reproduction, the American Society of Andrology and the American Aging Association. Dr. Bartke has published more than 750 research papers, review articles and book chapters dealing with reproductive endocrinology, prolactin, growth hormone and aging, and has received numerous awards, in addition to 45 years of continuous NIH funding. His laboratory was the first to show that mutation of a single gene can extend mammalian longevity and to suggest that the remarkable increase in the lifespan of Ames dwarf mice is due to growth hormone (GH) deficiency. During the last 20 years his lab has extensively characterized phenotypic characteristics of long-lived hypopituitary and GH-resistant mice. Contributions of his group to reproductive endocrinology and the hormonal and genetic control of aging include nearly 600 peer reviewed publications and more than 150 book chapters and review articles. According to the Web of Science Alert, his work has been cited on an average of 490 times per year since 1975 and more than 774 times per year since 2004.

His research has appeared in Nature Physics and he was a field agent for Atlas Obscura in Washington D.C.. In this work of history and analysis, Dr. Boxer examines classical texts on astrology to expose its underlying scientific and mathematical framework. Astrology, he argues was an ambitious applied mathematics problem, a monumental data analysis enterprise sustained by some of history's most brilliant minds, from Ptolemy to al-Kindi to Kepler. 02 Sep 2021 | Episode 195: Tom Hatsis: The Psychedelic Historian/The Golden Age of Psychedelic Research in the 1950s/How to Avoid a Bad Trip | 01:15:06
Thomas Hatsis is an author, lecturer, and historian of witchcraft, magic, Western religions, contemporary psychedelia, entheogens, and medieval pharmacopeia. In this podcast, despite many detours, (all my fault) we tend to focus on his new book LSD-The Wonder Child: The Golden Age of Psychedelic Research in the 1950s published by Inner Traditions. This marvelous new work details the blossoming of psychedelic research in the 1950s. Tom details the experimentation of different groups--from research labs to the military to bohemian art circles--who were seeking how best to utilize LSD and other promising psychedelics like mescaline. Sharing the details of many primary source medical reports, the author examines how doctors saw LSD as a tool to gain access top the minds of schizophrenics and thus better understand the causes of mental illness. The author also looks at how the CIA believed LSD could be turned into a powerful mind-control weapon, including a full account of the notorious top secret program MKUltra. 25 May 2020 | Episode 123: Michael Stuart Ani: Ghost Dance/Indigenous Ceremonies with Entheogens/The Healing Garden/Talking Plants/Spirit Guides | 01:13:54
Michael Stuart Ani has been a student of plant wisdom for almost 50 years. As a young man, he was guided by the Lakota sage, John Fire Lame Deer, through his first peyote ceremony and then sent him south to Mexico in search of the steps of the Ghost Dance. In the 1960s and 1970s, he lived in Mazateca's remote cloud forest and became the only outside who was ever allowed to collect the sacred mushroom species of the region. During the 1980s, the steps of the Ghost Dance led Ani to the remote tribes of the Amazon Jungle. With his Amazonia Foundation, Michael was instrumental in fighting the epidemics among the Yanomami in the Rainforests of Venezuela. This work was subsequently featured in the 1994 documentary, Yanomani, Keepers of the Flame, which won the US Environmental Film Festival's Best Documentary of the Year. After many years guiding explorers through the remote parts of the Amazon, Ani was inducted into the Explorers Society under the guidance of Sir Edmund Hilary and Thor Hyerdahl. This just barely scratches the surface of all Michael's remarkable work. For more detailed information, please see Michael's website: http://michaelstuartani.com/ Have a great week!

25 May 2023 | Episode 261: Akash Sky: Formless Relationship with Essence/Lord Shiva/Jesus/Inner Perfection | 01:08:12
In 2016, Akash was connected to the essence of Guruji, the Avatar of Hinduism's Lord Shiva, in a formless relationship. Guruji guided him to study A Course in Miracles which is dictated by Jesus. This study lead to the existence of the book, Introducing You to Your Own Perfection, which is the subject of this podcast. Introducing You to Your Own Perfection was written under challenging circumstances. It was if it came out of nowhere or now-here. The book began during the Coronavirus Lockdown, as the writer had an 18 month-old baby, a pregnant wife expecting another, a full time career outside of writing and a normal householder life. To ensure the message of this work was not lost, it was written during the toddler's naptimes on the weekends and during the week after hours until late at night. The intense force inside to get the words down and arrange this material was "overwhelming" as Akash wanted to extend his experience and introduce you to your own perfection. 21 Jun 2019 | Episode 76: Dr. Kate Lake (and Athena): "Addiction/Recovery/The White Swan" | 00:58:49
I heard Dr. Kate describe her journey on the local NPR Station's version of the Moth Radio Hour. When she finished, there was not a dry eye in the audience. There is no spoiler alert, I'll let her tell her story. I do like foreshadowing though, and there is a white swan along the way named Athena. And the story ends well. And if you or anyone you know ever encounters a swan responding to the name Athena, we want to know about it. And I'm sure Dr. Kate does as well. 11 Mar 2019 | Ep. 64 . Lara Gilbert: Ayahuasca American Style | 01:05:55
Though Ayahuasca is used as a traditional spiritual medicine in ceremonies among the indigenous peoples of the Amazon basin, it is starting to make inroads into the heartlands of America. I have yet to encounter a more evocative spokesperson for this medicine than Lara. Lara embodies the restorative potential that Ayahuasca creates in healing past traumas and in harmonizing life with its spiritual undercurrents. Lara works with Jyaneshwari Onaya, a Maestra of Ayahuasca who has studied and lived in the Amazon near Iquitos, Peru with her Maestro, Enrique Fasando Lopez of the Incan Kena Village for many years. Using this training, Jyaneshwari and other healers have been bringing this medicine across the United States to people who would not normally be able to afford travel for this Sacred Medicine Ceremony. If you like what you hear, and are interested in attending one of their ceremonies, you can contact them at: rainbowrootstribe108@gmail.com .
