Professor Bartke is the Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Internal Medicine and Physiology at Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois, USA.  The focus of his research is on genetic and hormonal control of aging in mammals.  His current work is aimed at identifying mechanisms that link reduced growth hormone action with delayed aging and extended longevity.  For this work, he is using mutant mice that live longer than normal mice and show various symptoms of delayed aging, including retention of cognitive function and protection from age-related disease.

His career includes work at the Jangiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, Worcester Foundation for Experimental Biology in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, the University of Texas Health Center at San Antonio, and SIU-Carbondale.  He is a past president of the Society for the Study of Reproduction, the American Society of Andrology and the American Aging Association.  Dr. Bartke has published more than 750 research papers, review articles and book chapters dealing with reproductive endocrinology, prolactin, growth hormone and aging, and has received numerous awards, in addition to 45 years of continuous NIH funding.

His laboratory was the first to show that mutation of a single gene can extend mammalian longevity and to suggest that the remarkable increase in the lifespan of Ames dwarf mice is due to growth hormone (GH) deficiency.  During the last 20 years his lab has extensively characterized phenotypic characteristics of long-lived hypopituitary and GH-resistant mice.  Contributions of his group to reproductive endocrinology and the hormonal and genetic control of aging include nearly 600 peer reviewed publications and more than 150 book chapters and review articles.  According to the Web of Science Alert, his work has been cited on an average of 490 times per year since 1975 and more than 774 times per year since 2004.

Julia Gordon-Bramer is a Sylvia Plath scholar, former professor for the Graduate Writing Program at Lindenwood University, professional tarot card reader, and award winning writer and poet.  She is the author of Fixed Stars Govern a Life:  Decoding Sylvia Plath (2015); Tarot Life Lessons (2023), and The Occult Sylvia Plath:  The Hidden Spiritual Life of the Visionary Poet (2024) which is the subject of this podcast.  Julia has also appeared on MTV, Nickelodeon, and other TV shows and was called St. Louis' Number One Fortune Teller by CBS

William Peters M.Ed. MFT, is the founder of the Shared Crossing Project and director of its Research Initiative.  Recognized as a global leader in the field of shared death studies, he has spent decades studying end-of-life experiences.  Previously, Peters worked as a hospice volunteer with the Zen Hospice Project in San Francisco and as a teacher and social worker in Central and South America.  A practicing psychotherapist, he holds degrees from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education and University of California, Berkeley.  His work on the end of life is informed by his therapeutic work with individuals and families facing grief and bereavement, personal experiences with death and dying across cultures, and his families own end of life journeys.

Susan L. Brooks is the Associate Dean for Experiential Learning and a Professor of Law at the Drexel University Kline School of Law in Philadelphia, PA.  She joined the faculty during the law school's inaugural year to develop and oversee all the experiential and public service aspects of the curriculum.  Professor Brooks teaches Family Law as well as innovative courses on holistic representation, professional formation, reflective practice, effective communication, and access to justice.  She has written extensively and has conducted workshops in the U.S. and across the globe to promote "Relational Lawyering," an integrative humanistic approach to legal practice and education, which includes habits of mind and tools to strengthen emotional intelligence, cross-cultural lawyering, and resilience.  She is also a leader in the field of Therapeutic Jurisprudence and is an inaugural member of the Global Advisory Council for the International Society of Therapeutic Jurisprudence (ISTJ).  Her most recent articles are entitled "Mindful Engagement and Relational Lawyering," and "Fostering Wholehearted Lawyers:  Practical Guidance for Supporting Law Students' Professional Identity Formation."

Alexander Boxer is a data scientist with a PhD in Physics (M.I.T.) and degrees in the history of science (Oxford) and classics (Yale).  His research has appeared in Nature Physics and he was a field agent for Atlas Obscura in Washington D.C..

Michael Stuart Ani has been a student of plant wisdom for almost 50 years.  As a young man, he was guided by the Lakota sage, John Fire Lame Deer, through his first peyote ceremony and then sent him south to Mexico in search of the steps of the Ghost Dance.  In the 1960s and 1970s, he lived in Mazateca's remote cloud forest and became the only outside who was ever allowed to collect the sacred mushroom species of the region.  During the 1980s, the steps of the Ghost Dance led Ani to the remote tribes of the Amazon Jungle.  With his Amazonia Foundation, Michael was instrumental in fighting the epidemics among the Yanomami in the Rainforests of Venezuela.  This work was subsequently featured in the 1994 documentary, Yanomani, Keepers of the Flame, which won the US Environmental Film Festival's Best Documentary of the Year.   After many years guiding explorers through the remote parts of the Amazon, Ani was inducted into the Explorers Society under the guidance of Sir Edmund Hilary and Thor Hyerdahl.

Robin Divine is a writer, psychedelic advocate and the creator of Black People Trip: a community with a mission to raise awareness, promote education, teach harm reduction, build community and create safe spaces for Black women interested in psychedelic use.

Robin turned to psychedelics to treat medication resistant depression that she has lived with her entire adult life.  As she became more involved in the psychedelic community, she noticed there was a definite lack of diversity.  As a result, she created Black People Trip: a safe space dedicated to bringing together Black women with an interest in psychedelic use.  BPT is also committed to finding ways to make this medicine more financially accessible and available to anyone in need of the benefits that psychedelics offer.  Healing shouldn't be a privilege.

Robins is also working on a book about her experiences navigating the mental health system and the psychedelic world as a Black Queer woman.

Dr. Kile Ortigo is a clinical psychologist and founder of the Center for Existential Exploration, which supports people exploring profound questions about identity, meaning, life transitions, and psychospiritual growth.  Dr. Ortigo completed his PhD in clinical psychology at Emory University and formal clinical training and fellowships in the treatment of posttraumatic stress, substance use, and LGBTQ+ health care at Stanford and UCSF-affiliated VA hospitals.  In 2019, Dr. Ortigo completed the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) Psychedelic-assisted Therapies and Research Certification Program.

In 2016, Akash was connected to the essence of Guruji, the Avatar of Hinduism's Lord Shiva, in a formless relationship.  Guruji guided him to study A Course in Miracles which is dictated by Jesus.  This study lead to the existence of the book, Introducing You to Your Own Perfection, which is the subject of this podcast.

Introducing You to Your Own Perfection was written under challenging circumstances.  It was if it came out of nowhere or now-here.  The book began during the Coronavirus Lockdown, as the writer had an 18 month-old baby, a pregnant wife expecting another, a full time career outside of writing and a normal householder life.  To ensure the message of this work was not lost, it was written during the toddler's naptimes on the weekends and during the week after hours until late at night.  The intense force inside to get the words down and arrange this material was "overwhelming" as Akash wanted to extend his experience and introduce you to your own perfection.

Dr. Dupuis is Social Anthropologist and Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Anthropology at the University of Durham (U.K.) and a member of  the "Hearing the Voice" program.  "Hearing the Voice"  is a large interdisciplinary study of voice-hearing featuring an international research team of academics from anthropology, cognitive neuroscience, history, linguistics, psychology, theology, clinicians, and others.  In addition to shedding light on the relations between hearing voices and everyday processes of sensory perception, memory, language and creativity, the program explores why it is that some voices (and not others) are experienced as distressing, how they can cause change across the life course, and the ways in which voices can act as important social, cultural and political forces.

Dr. Dupuis has conducted ethnographic surveys in Amazonian Peru for a decade, focusing on the globalization of the use of psychedelic substances.  He aims to build an anthropological comparative study of the relationships between hallucinations and culture.

Professor Cleo McNelly Kearns, is an independent scholar in the fields of modern literature, philosophy of religion, and anthropology and is currently a Visiting Scholar at Dartmouth College.  She has published extensively on issues in continental philosophy, feminist theory and aesthetics.  Her work now focuses on global shamanism and on the comparative study of sacrificial rituals across many cultures.  

She is the author of T.S. Eliot and Indic Traditions:  A Study in Poetry and Belief (1987) and The Virgin Mary, Monotheism and Sacrifice (2008).  She serves on the editorial board of the journal Literature and Theology and has contributed reviews and essays to a range of publications from History of Religions to the Oxford Handbook on Literature and Theology.

Professor Kearns has held fellowships from the Princeton Center for the Study of Religion, the Center of Theological Inquiry at Princeton Seminary and the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Notre Dame.  She is a member of the American Academy of Religion, and she has taught at many colleges and universities, including Rutgers University, New York University and the Community College of Vermont.  She is currently a contributing member of Incite Seminars under the direction of Glenn Wallis.

Professor Thomas B. Roberts returns to discuss the new anthology he edited:  Psychedelics and Spirituality:  The Sacred Use of LSD, Psilocybin, and MDMA for Human Transformation, 3rd Ed.    In this book, more than 25 spiritual leaders, scientists, and psychedelic visionaries examine how we can return to the primary spiritual encounters at the basis of all religions working with entheogens.  This groundbreaking work contains contributions form Albert Hofmann, Huston Smith, Stanislav Grof, Charles Tart, Sasha Shulgin, Brother David Steindl-Rast, and many others.

I heard Dr. Kate describe her journey on the local NPR Station's version of the Moth Radio Hour.  When she finished, there was not a dry eye in the audience.  There is no spoiler alert, I'll let her tell her story.  I do like foreshadowing though, and there is a white swan along the way named Athena.  And the story ends well.  And if you or anyone you know ever encounters a swan responding to the name Athena, we want to know about it.  And I'm sure Dr. Kate does as well.

Kokan Genjo Marinello was installed as the second Abbot of Chobo-ji, Seattle's Rinzai Zen Temple in 1999.

In this podcast we focus on his thoughtful and encompassing book Reflections on Awakening & Maturity.

Ac. is a spiritual counselor and acupuncturist is his 34th year of clinical practice in New York City.  His work centers on helping his clients use their disease and dysfunction as a doorway to spiritual serenity.  Through his decades of practice, he has learned that identifying and integrating the human shadow--those disowned or repressed puzzle pieces of self that wreak havoc in our lives--offers the most lasting hearing for what ails us in the body, mind and spirit.  He has studied Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese acupuncture, body centered psychotherapy, external and internal martial arts, indigenous shamanic practices as well as diverse meditative techniques.  He rides motorcycles, curses with abandon, and believes we should live in this transient world as fully as possible.

Andrea was born during WW2 in the Netherlands.  She experienced a traumatic childhood given her father's participation in the Nazi SS which cast a long shadow over her life.  Despite these challenges, she embarked on a journey toward healing.  Her search took her across the globe, where she eventually found solace, purpose and community. 

In The Pressing Stones, Andrea relates eighty years of her life exploring her deeply intimate and emotional journey, exploring family, relationships, sexuality, spirituality, motherhood, psychedelic therapy, addiction recovery, and the generational aspects of war.  It also presents a personal portrait of life in Auroville, the "City of Dawn," dedicated to the spiritual visions of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother.  

Andrea's story illustrates how freedom, joy, peace of mind, and happiness are possible, as we face our deepest truths and emerge from our darkest tribulations.

Dr. Marianne Reddan is a Stanford-based neuroscientist, socialist, and poet.   She completed her PhD with Dr. Tor Wager at CU Boulder where she specialized in machine learning applications to neuroimaging analysis and then began her post doc with Dr. Jamil Zaki at Stanford shortly after.  She is interested in decoding--how the brain represents emotions and how these representations are modified through social interaction.  She hopes that her research can benefit society by promoting mutual aid and transformative justice.

Jason came to work at the ayahuasca healing center Temple of the Way of Light (Peru) in 2012.  After working with ayahuasca extensively, he began the process of dieting plants.  He dieted in the Shipibo tradition and began working with maestro Ernesto Garcia Torres in 2013.  Through a long apprenticeship and training, involving prolonged isolation, fasting, and dieting of plants, he was eventually given the blessing to begin working plants.  After working for some time as a tabaquero, he was eventually given the ability to administer diets; to share in the tradition from which he had learned and which has taught him so much.  He has been living, learning, and working in the jungle since then.  He currently works at the Temple of the Way of Light as a facilitator of ayahuasca ceremonies and has run diets there and elsewhere in Peru.  In the last seven years he has helped guide over a thousand people in ceremonies.  

Jason is also a former actor (check IMDb for more info), certified in the Yoga Alliance and in Ashtanga with Richard Freeman.  He learned Qigong from Jung-Ping Yuan and went to Wudang, China to learn Taiji.  He has practiced many martial arts such as Judo, Aikido, and spent a year in Thailand learning Muay Thai from Master Pi Kob.  He also became an avid practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Victor "Shaolin" Ribeiro and Marcos "Loro" Galvao.
