Matthew doesn't do many interviews, so we were delighted that he decided to talk to us, fresh from FFAF's triumphant set at Slam Dunk.We discuss Matthew's early days in music, the formation of FFAF, the crazy whirlwind of popularity that the band quickly experienced, the effect that being a star of the scene had on Matthew's mental health and how he fought internal demons in the studio, touring with Iron Maiden and the struggles which led to a concept album.We hear the incredible story on how Terry Date got Matthew singing in the studio during the recording of Hours, and how the sudden news out of the Lostprophets camp in 2012 had an impact on the Welsh bands within the scene.We also discuss whether FFAF will be writing new music, the band going back to their hardcore roots and swapping studios with Pearl Jam. Episode 26 - Emo Dad talks to Tucker Rule.Matt had the privilege to sit down with the incredible Tucker Rule, drummer and founding member of post hardcore legends; Thursday. Since their formation in 1997, Thursday have constantly pushed the boundaries of post hardcore music, becoming one of the most influential bands in the genre. Thursday released their debut album, Waiting, in late 1999 before touring extensively. The band gained popularity with the release of their second album, Full Collapse, in 2001, and released their third album and major label debut, War All the Time, in 2003, which reached number seven on the US Billboard top 200 albums chart. Thursday released their fourth album, A City by the Light Divided, in 2006, and two further albums, Common Existence (2009) and No Devolución (2011) before taking a break. Greg is a singer-songwriter, born in the UK, but now residing in the States. Greg has had the most incredible career both as a solo artist and with his writing. Greg first enjoyed success back in 2009 as he grew a following on Youtube, after posting some acoustic songs. After upping sticks and following his dream to New York, his career really took off, leading to huge tours across the States and beyond. Greg achieved an 'accidental' number 1 hit in the Netherlands with 'The Lost Boy', which led to him play in front of a television audience of over 10 million people. We also hear the story of when one of his songs got picked up by American Idol and used for the winner (the brilliantly named Phillip Phillips) in 2012, selling more than 6 million copies and (as I write this) getting over 256 million plays on Spotify! Greg has also been on a major label, released numerous fantastic albums and worked with some legendary producers, writers and musicians. Stu explains the difficulties of being a musician and some of the difficult career decisions that need to be made. We deep dive into the process of writing in No Devotion and how that band came to be, the writing process of the No Devotion albums and the joy of touring in a band like Thursday.
