This will be on the few episodes with Sekiro chat, so stay tuned (and also watch out if you're spoiler-phobic). Enjoy, and be sure to check out Mark's link below to read some of his reviews. 10 Jan 2018 | Episode 107: Wayne | 00:49:29
Wayne and I have been Tumblr mutuals for some time now, so I was glad to finally get to talk to him about our shared passion. He talks about his experiences with the games, coaching his wife while she plays, and some of the art he's drawn in response to the game. It's a great episode, but of course I say that about every episode, so who can you really trust? Don't Give Up, Skeleton is now on Patreon, consider supporting the podcast. Links:

19 Jul 2017 | Episode 79: Aegon of Astora | 01:19:08
Hello skeletons! This week's guest is Aegon of Astora, a name you probably recognize if you've spent any time on YouTube watching lore videos. I caught up with Aegon on the day The Ringed City DLC came out for Dark Souls 3, and both of us took a break from playing that to record this podcast. It's pretty fun listening to us try not to spoil one another while trying to figure out where the other one is. Aegon and I talk about his history with the Souls series, how he approaches these games as a player and also someone that makes lore videos, and a bunch of stuff in between. Stay tuned after the credits of the show for a brief conversation about the DLC itself. Since recording this episode, Aegon has started a twitter where he chats Souls with people. It's not mentioned at the end, but you can find links below. Thanks for listening! Links:

We talk about how Bloodborne inspires love of its characters, her love for Gherman, and yes, a bit of Bald Gascoigne. Enjoy! PS: After the ep was recorded, I found out Mimi does a little bit of singing in her spare time. So stay tuned after the outtro music plays for her take on a Twilight Princess track. 11 Jan 2017 | Episode 49: Chris Mosher | 00:53:47
Today’s guest is Chris Mosher, a friend from Twitter and podcast buddy. Chris is a BIG Dark Souls fan, and we get into just about everything you’d want out of your typical DGUS episode (except for The Old Hunters, which he hasn’t played, so I kicked him off the cast). Chris is a blast to talk to, and his enthusiasm for the Souls games is infectious. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he inspires a few people to go back to DS1 after this comes out. Links for Chris: As always, if you’d like to be on the show, send an email to dguspodcast@gmail.com, or use my variety of social media networks listed below to send me a message. Welcome back, skellies! This week's guest is Brad Gallaway, Editor in Chief of GameCritics.com, and all around captial G Gamer. 11 Apr 2018 | Episode 120: NeoLucky | 00:54:40
You know that feeling when you sit down to talk to someone, and immediately know they're one of the most passionate Souls fans out there? Probably not, because I'm guessing that you don't sit down and talk to as many Souls fans as I do on a daily basis. Anyway, that's beside the point because I'm here to tell you that this week's guest, NeoLucky, is easily one of the biggest Souls fans I've had on the show. We talk about her journey through the series, her history with games in general, and her desire to create dolls based on Souls characters. How cool is that? Links:
03 May 2017 | Episode 68: Richard Pilbeam | 01:06:57
Hello Skeletons! If you're here, you've probably heard of Richard Pilbeam, aka Jerk Sans Frontiers, who does the series of lore videos called Bloodborne Up Close. If you haven't, check the links below and make sure you go do that. Richard has a special kind of insight into the Souls series, and it was a delight getting to sit down and talk to him about it. We sort of go all over place, as you might expect, but it's a fun conversation nonetheless. Enjoy! 10 May 2017 | Episode 69: Nice | 01:17:52
Time for something completely different, listeners. Our old friend Niki from episode 36 sent me the following DM a few months back: "hey, do you have any plans for episode 69?" Some of y'all probably know that I record these pretty far in advance, so while I had something for episode 69, I immediately told Niki I didn't and asked her what she was thinking. Her idea was to have her three gay friends come on the show, and have a sort of hour long chat about how great Lady Maria is. That seemed like it could be a super interesting and hilarious podcast, so I agreed, and I was right: it IS a super interesting and hilarious podcast. As someone who doesn't get into shipping or even developing crushes on fictional characters, I was interested in getting an opportunity to ask about this stuff. So, the episode you're hearing is exactly that. Four ladies (Niki, Molly, Steph, and Grace) gushing over Lady Maria and various other Dark Souls women, and trying to explain what they see in these characters to me. A bit of a warning: the audio in this is FINE, but as you might imagine, having four people on the same track isn't ideal. Steph's audio is fairly low, but I tried to boost it when she was talking by herself. There's also some over talk I would have cut out of a normal episode, but unfortunately here I couldn't do that. I think it's perfectly listenable, just a bit...chaotic, which I think suits the tone of the conversation. www.dontgiveupskeleton.com <--- For all your skeleton needs Links:

This week's guest is Silver, a friend of a friend I met that loves the Souls games, and plays them in a very intense way. Silver and I walk through their history of the games, and get into Silver's opinion on why Dark Souls 2 failed to live up to Dark Souls 1. It's a fun conversation, as it generally is every episode, and I think you'll dig it. Make sure to check the links and help save the red pandas, which Silver has been doing for a long, long time. Hello! This week’s guest is Robert, who is a very enthusiastic Souls fan. After almost getting abandoned during our recording time by yours truly (full details in the ep), we get into why he loves them. It’s a very fun episode (with some audio difficulties that drag it down at the beginning, sorry about that). Robert’s links: http://www.dontgiveupskeleton.com/ Additional Links! 18 Oct 2017 | Episode 95: Jessi | 01:06:00
This week's guest is Jessi, an extremely filthy wizard and now co-host of the Salt Report podcast (seriously, go listen to the Salt Report podcast, it's extremely good and funny, and is entirely made up of former guests of this show). Jessi is an illustrator and artist who hasn't played all the games, but approaches them from a unique perspective. She agreed to sit down with me and discuss her funny names for Bloodborne bosses, why Souls handles women and gender so well, and to bring up friend-of-the-show Niki approximately 100000 times. Enjoy! Links:

Hi everyone! This week's guest is my friend Eric, who I met via the Duckfeed.TV network. Eric is a great dude that has a hangup about spiders, but that didn't stop him from getting heavily into the Souls series. I've know Eric on the internet for awhile, so it was nice to get a chance to talk to him. I think you're going to enjoy getting to know him as well. 22 Aug 2018 | Episode 139: rythin | 00:51:51
Hello! So, awhile back I had an idea: interview a bunch of speedrunners, and release an episode per day during the week of SGDQ. For a variety of reasons, this didn't come to happen, but I did end up interviewing a couple of speedrunners about the things they do. The first of these interviews is with rythin, this week's guest. They explained a lot of aspects of speedrunning, and talked a little bit about their history with the series in general. Enjoy! This week we have Joe Donnelly on the show! Joe is a writer for PC Gamer and a huge Souls fan. He and I sat down a few months ago, ostensibly to talk Souls but it ended up going all over the place. It's a real fun conversation! Unfortunately, the audio gods weren't smiling when we recorded, so Joe's audio is a bit rough in places. On top of that, we lost a good 5-10 minutes of audio right in the middle. I still think it's a great episode, though, so why are you still reading this? Go listen! Links:

22 Nov 2017 | Episode 100: Jason Killingsworth | 01:42:22
This week's guest is the great Jason Killingsworth, one half of the team that literally wrote the book on Dark Souls. Jason was one of those people that inspired me to do this podcast, even though I don't think he knew that until we recorded this episode. Jason has been into Souls since the very beginning, and has wrote numerous articles on the series. This conversation drifts in between Souls and life, religion, and how Dark Souls can teach us lessons on parenting. If you're reading this (and I have no idea how many of you read these notes), I just want to say thank you for listening and/or guesting. Episode 100 is just a number, but it seems like an accomplishment. Over 100 individual guests, all with their own unique stories, all told in their own voice in their own way. I've been remarkably lucky to have all of you listeners and guests. I'm writing this before recording the intro of the show, and I'm planning on rambling a bit thanking people there as well, so I'll try to keep this brief: Thanks! Links:

07 Feb 2018 | Episode 111: Liz | 00:54:43
Hello friends! Welcome to another episode of Don't Give Up, Skeleton. This week's guest is Liz, who is a big gamer. She started out way back when in the PS1 days, but hung up her controller once kids came along. After they grew up a bit, she picked it back up in a big way. After seeing some of Dark Souls 2's character creation, she bought it blind and jumped in. Later, she fell in love with Bloodborne and Dark Souls 1. 08 Feb 2017 | Episode 56: Lewis | 01:17:17
This week’s guest is Lewis, who sent me what could almost be called on essay about, as he called it, “Dark Souls as the human condition.” How could I not bring him on after that? Lewis talks quite a bit about his history with the games, and how it affected his depression and even his personal religion. It’s a very good show, with some minor but persistent sound artifacting that is slightly distracting. Nothing terrible, though. Stay tuned through the end of the episode for a listen to Lewis’ band, Wild Apples. 01 May 2019 | Episode 175: Laura | 00:56:44
Today is a very special episode! For a long time now, the idea of doing a "Dark Souls Widows" podcast, where I would interview the partners of Souls addicts who aren't as much into the games to get their perspective on the series. This is almost that, but instead of me interviewing a guest, I asked my wife to host the show and interview a special guest: Laura Stardust! That's right, we got the star of Paddy Does a OneBro to come onto the show and talk about her view of the series. Enjoy! Hello skeletons! Welcome to a special episode of Don't Give Up, Skeleton. Sanadsk is one of the first people on YouTube to start posting videos that show off cut content from Bloodborne, so when I got the opportunity to interview him, I jumped. We had a great conversation, and as you probably know from his videos, he's a very charming and personable guy. Hopefully you'll enjoy this podcast where he talks about his methodology, the unusual charm of the Souls series, and of course, all the cut content he's found. I know I enjoyed recording it! Hello! We're starting this week with a bang! Three episodes, each one with a host from the Monster Dear Monster podcast. This episode's guest is NinjaBadger7, an extremely nice person who has lots of affection for the series, specifically Bloodborne. We talk about how the game's difficulty can prevent it from being accessible to "normal" gamers, and that special sense of satisfaction of killing a boss that you've been banging your head against for hours. 20 Mar 2019 | Episode 169: Spice | 01:13:14
Hey! You! Are you old enough to hear grown ass adults talk about some sexy times with monsters? Then let's go. This week I'm joined by some very good friends and previous guests of the show: Sara (Episode 85), Kou (Episode 98), and Mimi (Episode 131). Similar to episode 69, where a group of women came on to talk about (mostly) their love for Lady Maria and we got into the shipping side of this series, but this episode is slightly different. We discuss some of the more...not socially acceptable side of the shipping fandom. Gherman/Maria, what makes Gascoigne so sexy, and why we gotta bone these werewolves. It's an interesting and racy conversation that I don't think you can get anywhere else. Don't Give Up, Skeleton is on Patreon, which is a great way to support the show if you can. This week’s guest is Chris, host of the Now and Again podcast. Chris discovered Dark Souls at a low point in his life, but has since come to enjoy them even in the good times. We talk about his journey through the series, his sort of ambivalence to Dark Souls 2, and his love for Bloodborne (because everyone loves Bloodborne and if you don’t your opinion is wrong). Just a quick note: you should totally check out Now and Again! It’s a great concept for a show (talking about a volume of Now That’s What I Call Music with a guest), and is very much fun to listen to. I guested on a year end episode to talk about my favorite thing I discovered in 2016, which you can find below: http://www.cageclub.me/now-and-again-2016-side-b/ Chris’s Links: For all the Don’t Give Up, Skeleton related links you can shake a femur bone at, visit www.dontgiveupskeleton.com

09 Aug 2017 | Episode 82: Andrew | 00:52:57
This week we have two episodes for you to get down on. First up is Andrew, who is one have of the Dingus Boys. I met Andrew and Nick when Fiona (whom you might remember from episode 20) asked me if I wanted to participate in their charity stream. They were streaming Dark Souls 3 for 24 hours straight, so I jumped in for an hour or two and chatted with them about their Souls experiences. You can find that video below! A few months later Andrew and I sat down to talk about his entire history with the games. Enjoy. Live Stream: Links:
18 Jan 2017 | Episode 51: Josh Garrity | 01:09:56
I’m very happy to Josh Garrity on the podcast this week! Josh is a host on the incredible Cane & Rinse podcast. Josh and I spend a good 20-25 minutes talking about games in general before getting into the Souls games, but I think y’all will enjoy it anyway. Quick note: there are some audio issues on this one. I tried to edit around them as best I could, but when you’re recording from 3000 miles away things can happen. Also, right after this Josh found out his mic was dying! So we were in DOUBLE TROUBLE! Oh no! Josh’s Links: As always, if you’d like to be on the show, send an email to dguspodcast@gmail.com, or use my variety of social media networks listed below to send me a message. 04 Jan 2017 | Episode 48: Vader | 01:06:10
We’re back! This week’s guest is VaderVanOdin, my podcast buddy from Dark Insight. We get all into Vader’s Souls history, including his brother being a bit of a back seat driver on Demon’s Souls. It’s always a blast sitting down and talking to Vader; he’s literally the nicest man in podcasting. Fair warning: when this was recorded I was still using Zencastr, and there are a few parts where the VOIP connection broke down and Vader turns into a robot (queue all of your funny Star Wars jokes). It’s not terrible, but it wasn’t something I could edit around. Sorry about that! Vader’s many social links: As always, if you’d like to be on the show, send an email to dguspodcast@gmail.com, or use my variety of social media networks listed below to send me a message. 08 Nov 2017 | Episode 98: Kou | 00:55:29
This week's guest is Kou, who has a deep and powerful love of Bloodborne. So much so that we spoke for a full hour about just that game and somehow managed to forget about the Chalice dungeons. Oops! I know y'all are going to love this one anyway, though. Links:
23 Jan 2019 | Episode 161: Jon S. | 00:57:15
Hey there skellies, this week's guest is Jon S, an extremely nice fellow with a passion for the Souls games. We go through the whole series pretty much in order, and even manage to squeeze a little Deracine chat in there for fun. Enjoy! 07 Nov 2018 | Episode 150: Johannes (Immortal:Unchained) | 00:52:52
Hello everyone! This episode is quite a bit different from the usual. Recently, I was introduced to a game called Immortal:Unchained. I believe I've mentioned it on one or two episodes of this podcast, and if you've been following me, or Twin Humanitities, or SenPlus on Twitter, then you probably saw us talking about it. I was struck at how many Demon's Souls/Dark Souls vibes the game was giving me, so I wrote to the developer and asked if any of their staff had played the games, and if so, would they be willing to come onto the show and talk about their experiences. I was very surprised and delighted when they got me in touch with Johannes, the Lead Level Designer for Toadman. We sat down and talked all about Immortal, and just a little bit about Dark Souls and how it relates to the game. Forgive me for geeking out a bit, I was pretty excited! I hope you enjoy this as something a bit different from the normal Don't Give Up, Skeleton episodes. Thanks for listening everyone! 27 Jul 2022 | Episode 184: Judson Cowan | 00:52:33
Hello skeletons! This week on the podcast, we are joined by Judson Cowan, who you might know if you've been following Souls stuff for awhile. Besides making some great videogame soundtracks (like Rogue Legacy 2), he's also the creator of Laudate Solis, the most perfect map of Dark Souls 1 that has ever existed. Until his new one comes out, anyway. We talk about his history with the games, the magic of making maps, and more. Enjoy! 28 Feb 2018 | Episode 114: Steph | 00:49:08
Hello! Listeners of the show will probably remember episode 69, which was a special episode of this podcast. My good friend Niki asked to invite three of her friends onto the show so they could talk about one of their favorite subjects: Lady Maria choking them all out. It was a riot! Since then I've been interviewing those women one by one, and this week's guest is Steph! She and I sat down and talked about being inspired by the series, what its like to play with very tiny hands, and a ton of things in between. This is one of those rambly ones, so enjoy! 23 Aug 2017 | Episode 85: Sara | 01:15:02
Sara (who goes by BellringerKat on tumblr) is a professional illustrator and part time Bloodborne lore guru. Because of the distance between us (she's in Italy), the audio quality is a bit rough this week. I promise you're going to want to listen, though, because Sara has some very interesting insight into the world of Bloodborne. She also has a different opinion to on the subject of people shipping Gherman and Lady Maria, which I think is pretty fascinating. Enjoy! Links:

18 Apr 2018 | Episode 121: Joseph Fink | 00:51:02
Hiya skellies. This week's guest is Joseph Fink, one of the writers of Welcome to Night Vale and Alice Isn't Dead. Joseph has an interesting relationship with horror that comes out during our conversation about the Souls games. We talk about his love of Bloodborne, despite not liking hard games, and how Dark Souls doesn't work for him in the same way. It's a great episode! If you use iTunes, a good way to support the show is to leave a review for it. If you want to support the show directly, there's a Patreon. Thanks for listening! Links:
27 Sep 2017 | Episode 90: Theomeny | 01:40:34
Welcome back, listeners. This week's guest is Theomony, a Souls lore enthusiast with some fascinating insights into the Souls/Bloodborne games. We've been friends on Twitter for awhile now, so it was great to sit down with her and talk about her experiences with the games. Be sure to check out her Souls streams and YouTube for some great hashtag content. Thanks for listening everyone! Heads up everyone: since recording this podcast, Theomony released an essay entitled Lethe and Aletheia: The Essence of the Soul in Dark Souls, which you can find in the links below. I asked her to come back onto the show and discuss it, so after the credits in the main episode, stay tuned for an extra 30 minutes of lore talk centered around the essay. Links:

31 Jul 2019 | DGUS Remastered - Sean aka The Lore Hunter | 01:01:24
Hello skellies! If you haven't been following me on Twitter or on the recently closed Patreon, I have some news. My original plan after putting DGUS on hiatus was to begin recording and releasing "remastered" episodes, in which I'd re-interview some of the original guests of the show and see how things have changed. I recorded one of these, which you are hopefully listening to right now, and since then have decided to shut down the Patreon. I don't have any direct plans to record more of these, but if I do they'll be publicly available on this feed. All of that aside, the guest is my friend Sean, who releases content under the moniker The Lore Hunter. Sean is a lore junkie, as you might imagine, and in the three years since we recorded the first time his life has gone through many changes. He has more kids, he bought a house...the usual stuff. Also: his Souls content began to get way more popular than usual. Popularity is a good thing right? Not always. As Sean tells us in this episode, sometimes it can lead to all sorts of unusual places. Enjoy the episode friends! You can support the show by leaving an iTunes review, or by sharing the podcast with your friends. Merch! Wear a skelly on your belly! |
