We may feel lucky to get our pensions now but this just shows how out of synch it all is from original intentions - and how unaffordable for society.

EP 2 It’s Never Too Late to Start a Writing Career
00:39:19
Do you have a story that you want to share with the world, but are afraid you’re too old to learn new skills and publish a book?
Our guest, Mildred J. Mills, embodies the essence of living life without limits!
Growing up in Alabama and the 3rd of 17 children from the same parents, Mildred is not your typical septuagenarian. In fact, she's blowing the lid off every age-related expectation society holds.
At 68 Mildred waltzed back into the classroom and earned a Masters in Creative Writing at 71. Soon after she launched a popular podcast, My Cotton Patch Moment, and then published a book at 72 – a poignant memoir called Daddy's House: A Daughter's Memoir of Setbacks, Triumphs, and Rising Above Her Roots!
Out of the profound depths of her experiences, Mildred's work is a testament to an indomitable spirit that sees age not as a barrier, but as motivation to embrace new challenges and share deeply personal narratives.
I especially loved Mildred’s advice about the importance of mentorship to enhance one's craft, irrespective of age, which she learned firsthand from the tremendous mentorship she received from master memoirist Beverly Donofrio.
Mildred would be delighted to join your book club for a reading of her book Daddy’s House – contact information is on her website, and you can purchase a copy here.
I know you will love hearing Mildred’s fascinating stories – and listening to her captivating voice!

EP 5 Building a Tech Business in Your 60s
00:32:32
If you think you’re too old to launch a business, think again.
According to a recent study, a 60-year-old startup founder is 3 times as likely to found a successful startup as a 30-year-old startup founder – and is 1.7 times as likely to found a startup that winds up in the top 0.1 percent of all companies.
At 62, our guest, Fran Maier, embodies the entrepreneurial spirit, proving that age is no barrier to innovation or success.
From setting up a frozen yogurt stand at Stanford, to shaping the online dating scene as a co-founder of Match.com, to founding, building and selling TRUSTe, and now revolutionizing the way traveling families connect with essential baby gear through BabyQuip.
Fran's story is packed with lessons on overcoming challenges, not least of which is the bias and assumptions that come from being a woman chasing venture capital in her sixties.
Her current company, BabyQuip is revolutionizing the way families travel, by connecting them to a network of local parents and grandparents providing high-quality baby gear.
Fran has kindly offered an exclusive BabyQuip discount code for our listeners – use AGE20 at checkout – woo hoo!

00:36:10
If you've ever found yourself boxed in by societal views on aging, or perhaps tangled in your own beliefs about what you can or cannot do as you age, this episode will inspire you to break free from those mental shackles.

Were you indoctrinated to believe age dictates your career and life trajectory?
This episode is packed with actionable advice and steps to help you overcome age-related barriers and find out what fuels your passion, suits your personality and fills your pocket!
Our guest, Jeri Sedlar, is an internationally recognized author, speaker, and lecturer on retirement, and she's the co-author of the highly acclaimed book, "Don't Retire, Rewire!"

At 79, Sara is passionate about ending gendered ageism through the Second Women’s Movement and has declared ENOUGH to the demeaning and belittling behavior and language often used toward older women.
During our conversation Sara advises taking a deep dive into our internal ageist beliefs and confronting them. Whether it’s being conscious of the language we use about aging or standing against everyday ageist remarks, it’s time we redefine our narratives around aging.
We also chat about Sara’s book The Upside of Downsizing – how to let go of the many items you accumulate over the years (including your children’s toys and artwork, even though they are 40 and have children of their own!), to reach a place where you have just enough.
Sarah recommended several books that provide great insights and guidance for those navigating aging positive:

EP 14 Female Private Investigator Challenges Age and Gender Norms
00:32:35
In this episode I chat with a dear friend of 20 years, the remarkable Julee Dennis, a 66-year-old private investigator from Austin, Texas, whose journey is a testament to perseverance, passion, and the power of reinvention.
Growing up with showbiz parents and a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Julee initially pursued a career in music, performing with the all-girl rock band Tomboy and later forming her own band, Denim and Lace.
After her successful music career and several entrepreneurial adventures, she eventually found her true calling in private investigation after a personal custody battle for her grandson sparked her interest in the field.
With determination and support from a colleague, Julee became a licensed private investigator and, a few years later, she founded Lighthouse Investigations, specializing in a variety of cases, from custody battles to missing persons.
The agency covers all of Texas and extends nationwide with digital investigations—helping families find closure and reconnect with lost loved ones.
In an industry often dominated by men, Julee has proven that neither gender nor age can limit one's potential.
Throughout our conversation Julee shares valuable insights on finding meaning in daily life, the importance of gratitude, and the fulfillment that comes from empathizing with and supporting clients through challenging times.
Her story is a powerful reminder that we all have unique gifts to offer and that it’s never too late to pursue new dreams and opportunities – and thrive after 65!

EP 18 How to Protect Your Quality of Life While Caregiving
00:38:11
Planning for caregiving is the best gift to yourself and to your loved ones.
At 72, Deborah Greenhut is an international speaker, author, educator and an advocate for Caregivers around the world.
So often we fall into the role of caregiver, unprepared and quickly exhausted by the 24/7 responsibility and the multiple roles of nurse, accountant, attorney, health advisor, financial planner, housekeeper, etc.
Deborah discusses the complex balancing act of caregiving while maintaining personal well-being, and she shares invaluable advice for caregivers, stressing the need for setting boundaries, seeking resources, and building a support network to avoid burnout.
“It’s pointless to tell a caregiver they need to take a bubble bath or take a walk, when there is no one else there to stay with the loved one while they do that.”
Deborah shares her personal strategies for ensuring she doesn’t become a burden to her own children as she ages and highlights the enduring power of community support and self-education.
“We need to start doing more intentional, not random, acts of kindness!”
Get ready to be inspired by Deborah’s wisdom on proactive aging, the idea of "sharegiving," and how to embrace new opportunities later in life without being hindered by ageist beliefs.

EP 19 Meet the World's Oldest Female Competitive Ninja Athlete
00:32:05
It’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years!
An actress, dancer, and competitive athlete in both Ninja and swimming, Ginny MacColl, age 72, began her career in New York City in 1974 as a dancer in the hit Broadway show, Pippin.
She then transitioned into the commercial world and did over 100 national and regional commercials throughout the 70s and 80s. (Tap here to watch them - it’s a wonderful stroll down memory lane.)
After a 20-year hiatus to raise her family and work in radio, Ginny rekindled her acting career in retirement and also began strength training, inspired by her daughter, Jessie Graff, who has gone farther than any female on American Ninja Warrior.
At 63, Ginny did her very first pull up and later competed on American Ninja Warrior, Seasons 9, 10, and 15, making history at age 71 as the oldest person to complete an obstacle.
AND, She was just named the oldest competitive female ninja athlete in the 2024 Guinness World Record Book!
Ginny passionately embraces aging and encourages others to see their Renaissance Years as a time to pursue new dreams and opportunities.
I think this is the best stage in my life. I don't think I've accomplished anything in my life as much as I have since retirement.
Whether you're looking to make a change or just seeking some inspiration, this episode is packed with insights that remind us all that it’s never too late to defy ageist beliefs and begin building a thriving, vibrant future.

EP 24 Cancer, Sisterhood, and Celebrating Every Year
00:51:35
Celebrating 67 years of living, our guest, Tami Barber, is a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, a podcast host, and a Stage 3B Ovarian cancer thriver.
Since she was first diagnosed in November 2020, Tami has courageously navigated her cancer, undergoing surgery alone during the COVID lockdown, and finding strength in her faith and four trusted Sisterhood friends.
In this heartfelt conversation, Tami honestly and openly reveals her struggles of living with cancer, and the essential need for genuine emotional support over toxic positivity from folks who have never had cancer.
Fueled by her own experiences, Tami launched the podcast "Cancer: The Emotional Mountain," tackling the multifaceted emotional challenges cancer patients face.
And she recently started a new podcast, "Sideline Legends," sharing untold stories of NFL cheerleaders.
I especially loved learning how Tami dances with a group of cancer thrivers called the Bionic Babes Dancers of Hope, where the focus is on living a joy-filled life, not their cancer diagnoses.
This is a conversation filled with wisdom, humor, and invaluable life lessons … and Tami's experiences remind us all that celebrating each year of life and finding meaningful connections can lead to a thriving, vibrant existence.

EP 29 From Keynotes to Empowered TEDx Coaching
00:40:43
Hey Pro Agers!
Meet Mimi Donaldson: At 76, she is thriving in life and shares her journey from giving keynotes for decades, to helping others deliver powerful speeches through her TEDx and speech coaching.
Here are the highlights from our delicious conversation:
🎤 Keynote Wisdom – Mimi, once a powerhouse keynote speaker, likens delivering speeches to operating a jukebox, with a repertoire of 14 keynotes. She shared the liberating realization that after her last major keynote in Brazil in 2014, it was time to transition to something she loved more—coaching. Her journey teaches us that it's okay to move on from things that no longer bring joy, especially after the age of 65.
❤️ Finding Passion vs. Doing What You Love – Mimi’s advice for those over 65 is gold: instead of chasing new passions, immerse yourself in activities you already love. Discovering what doesn't excite you can be just as important as finding what does.
✨ Path of a Speech Coach – After decades of inspiring from the stage, Mimi’s aha moment came as she found delight in mentoring others. Today, she coaches TEDx speakers, executives, and entrepreneurs, helping them develop powerful speeches that resonate. Her joy now comes from seeing the spark in her clients’ eyes—proof that our passions can evolve beautifully over time.
💡 TEDx Secrets Unveiled – If you’re thinking about giving a TEDx talk, Mimi’s got you covered! She emphasizes the importance of preparation and engaging storytelling. Watch Kelly McGonagall's "Make Stress Your Friend" for a masterclass in effective delivery.

EP 36 An Intergenerational Conversation About Improving Digital Literacy for Older Adults
00:45:42
I love providing representation of folks thriving after 65.
Which is why I only interview folks over 60 on the podcast – because if you see it, you can be it right?
But, as you may know from prior episodes on the podcast, I’m constantly sharing how important it is to have intergenerational relationships and conversations.
Please meet Stefano Selorio, 25, the Founder and CEO of Carevocacy, a company dedicated to empowering older adults with digital literacy skills that enhance their access to healthcare, while bridging generational and technological divides.
This conversation brings together voices from two generations—myself at 68 and Stefano at 25—to emphasize how intergenerational relationships and collaborations can make a powerful impact. In this case, it’s on health and wellbeing for older adults.
Stefano and I explored the essential role of technology in healthcare, making health resources accessible to all, regardless of age, background, or tech familiarity.
Stefano shared some specific ways digital literacy skills, including understanding AI, can directly impact health equity for older adults.
He also shared some common challenges older adults face when learning new technology skills, and how does Carevocacy address these challenges to make learning accessible and empowering.
I really loved learning about Carevocacy's handy app called Apo AI. Anyone who needs help with their phone or other technology devices can ask Apo AI how-to questions via text messages on their phone - easy peasy!

EP 50 Aging Out Loud and Proud
00:10:45
Hiya listeners!
Can you believe it? We’ve hit 50 episodes of Don't Be Caged By Your Age! 🎉
In this special milestone episode, I’m flying solo to share the origin story of this podcast, how my own pro-aging journey has transformed the way I see getting older, and why I’m on a mission to dissolve ageist beliefs.
I’ll take you back to the summer of 2022 when I turned 66, a time when I was still hesitant to embrace my age publicly. After years in the youth-driven startup world, I had internalized the fear of aging, worried about being dismissed or overlooked. But everything changed when I posted a photo on LinkedIn holding a Route 66 sign, declaring my age loud and proud.
That moment sparked an outpouring of stories from people who felt the same way - some feeling invisible, others thriving beyond 65. And that’s when I knew: this conversation needed a bigger platform.
Since launching Don’t Be Caged By Your Age in March 2024, I’ve had the joy of interviewing incredible individuals who are rewriting the narrative around aging. Their stories, and your engagement, have fueled my passion for advocating a life of purpose, vitality, and reinvention at any age.
Now, 50 episodes in, I’m more inspired than ever - and I can’t wait for what’s ahead!
If this episode resonates with you, please subscribe, leave a comment, and share your thoughts. Your support helps us continue spreading this message far and wide. Here’s to thriving after 65 and beyond!

Curiosity doesn’t retire. If you keep learning, connecting, and moving - aging becomes a rich and vibrant part of the journey.
With a legal career that spans more than four decades, Louis Goodman has lived many chapters - from his early days as a Deputy District Attorney in Alameda County to running a high-volume criminal defense practice.
Now, as the thoughtful and ever-curious host of the Love Thy Lawyer podcast, Louis gives us a front-row seat to the lives and lessons of legal professionals.
But this conversation goes way beyond courtrooms and case law.
At 71, Louis is still exploring, growing, and trying new things - from foil boarding and snowboarding to diving deep into books, film, and podcasting. His energy is contagious, his reflections are wise, and his story is proof that staying engaged and evolving is the key to aging with vitality.
In this episode, we dive into: ✨ How Louis keeps his passion for law alive after 40+ years ✨ The social dynamics of the legal world … and why court feels a lot like high school ✨ The importance of staying physically active and mentally curious ✨ Launching a podcast in his late 60s and leaning into new skills and tech ✨ Why community, connection, and continuous learning are the ultimate anti-aging tools
If you’re craving a story that breaks the mold of what aging should look like, Louis brings it. Tune in to hear how he continues to challenge expectations, live fully, and love what he does.
Whether you’re into law, storytelling, or simply seeking inspiration to stay lit up about life - this one’s for you.
