20 Feb 2022Radio Free Skaro #840 - The Sweet Hereafter01:02:50

Our last podcast of the weekend at Gallifrey One features an interview with journalist, writer, and TV critic Matthew Sweet, responsible for those stellar long form interviews on the Doctor Who Blu-ray sets. And Chip from Two-Minute Time Lord and Erika from Verity! join Steven to wrap up the day and the convention as a whole. It’s been a wonderful weekend of healing and togetherness and we hope the podcasts this weekend helped share the atmosphere here with you.

14 Oct 2012Radio Free Skaro #332 - Harry and the Giant Clam01:07:15

The bulk of this week's episode is devoted to "Chicks Unravel Time," edited by Deb Stanish and L.M. Myles, a follow-up by Mad Norwegian Press to the widely praised "Chicks Dig Time Lords." In this book, each writer tackled a different season of Classic Who, with sometimes surprising results! The editors of this weighty tome told Warren and Steven about the creation of the book, the wide range of voices in the book (from pros to first-time writers) and the big difference that a female perspective can have on interpretation of our favorite television program.

Oh yes, and some stats were mulled over at some point in the news segment. Last stats until Christmas, thank Omega!

13 Jun 2010Radio Free Skaro #202 - Nothing At The Top Of The Stairs01:09:00
The news of a fourth series of Torchwood becoming a reality dropped like a bomb in the Doctor Who fandom world, as many had written off the idea once FOX stepped away from the table. With Warren unavailable, Steven and Chris are joined by Chip from the Two-minute Time Lord podcast to talk about Torchwood, cover the latest episode of Doctor Who (Gareth Roberts’ “The Lodger”), as well as the news of the week. Will this be another Planet of the Dead, or will Gareth Roberts redeem himself in the eyes of the RFS gang, particularly the relentlessly unforgiving Chris? What does our esteemed guest think of the latest Who?

Post-Gally blues…or post-Gally buzz? The Three Who Rule were in high spirits this week, energized by a most wonderful gathering of the tribe in Los Angeles. This episode presents two interviews from Gallifrey One, first with TV consultant for the BFI, Dick Fiddy, and second with Red Dwarf and Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden! Tally ho!

18 Jul 2010Radio Free Skaro #207 - Please Do Not Throw Hands At Me02:03:09

The Radio Free Skaro Classic Series Commentaries kept trucking along this week with a look at another Tom Baker story. The Robots of Death, a wonderful murder mystery, goes under examination in the form of the Three Who Rule jib-jabbering their way through four episodes of Chris Boucher goodness. Oh, and there's some like casting news... or something... about the 2010 Doctor Who Christmas Special. And Torchwood news. And DVD news. But that's all peanuts compared to robots! ROBOTS!

07 Jan 2018Radio Free Skaro #616 – No Unwanted Opinions Please01:19:01

Welcome to 2018 which, for now at least, is the Time of Not Much Happening, exemplified by a rather sparse news list this week in the form of “Twice Upon A Time” stats, writer non-participation, new Gallifrey One guests, and the fact that Doctor Who is filming in South Africa! But also, for your edification and entertainment, we also have an interview with Sophie Aldred and Lisa Greenwood from Chicago TARDIS. Listen, enjoy and patiently wait for Series 11 with the rest of us!

The moment has arrived! Once again the Three Who Rule, along with Two-Minute Time Lord Chip Sudderth,  dive into our annual preview of the Gallifrey One schedule along with tips for newcomers, fanning over various aspects of ancient and modern televisual craft, and highlighting various panels we’re on including our live show, “Radio Free Skaro: More than 60 Years in the TARDIS” at 11 a.m. Friday February 16th on the main stage! It’s our favorite weekend of the year and our honour to guide you, the listener though it. See you in L.A.!

02 Jan 2019Radio Free Skaro #668 – DIY of the Daleks01:11:50

After waiting a whole series for a classic Doctor Who monster to rear its ugly noggin and fight the Time Fam, the OG Badass of Whodom, one D.Alek itself made a splash and racked up a pretty serious body count in “Resolution,” the New Year’s Day special and the last new Who we’ll see in some time. So what did Steven, Chris and Warren think of this murderous romp through Sheffield and various dank interiors? Fetch some peanut butter to grease geo-feudal locks, sit down with a nice glass of mulled wine and a custard cream, and enjoy!

19 Feb 2012Radio Free Skaro #296 - Cleaning Up The Corn Field01:23:09

Day Two of Gally! And what a day of behind the scenes luminaries it was, with Doctor Who director Richard Senior ("Let's Kill Hitler"), writer Simon Guerrier and the inestimable Steve Roberts of the Doctor Who Restoration Team rounding out the behind the scenes chatter. Plus the delightful mendicants from the Pharos Project stopped by to drink, swear and occasionally form a sentence. Drunktastic!

21 Oct 2012Radio Free Skaro #333 - Avid Femmy Robomen01:26:32

With the New! Doctor! Who! countdown clock having more than two months on it, a mandate was declared by the Three Who Rule that now is the time for Season 7A commentaries. NOW. Over the coming weeks their trademark brand of pedantism, whimsy and love for classic rock will undoubtedly distract from the adventures of the Doctor, Amy and Rory playing out before them onscreen, starting this week with Asylum of the Daleks. But wait! Chip, the Two-minute Time Lord, joins our august trio for this episode, allegedly to voice his opinions on Asylum but mostly the keep Steven, Warren and Chris in line. Does he succeed? Tune in to find out!

23 Jun 2013Radio Free Skaro #372 - The Chain00:54:56

It has been one crazy week in the world of Doctor Who, with rumours of scores of missing Doctor Who episodes being found, then not found, then found again, then, finally, all of them declared not missing but destroyer. The end. Is it, though? The wait for a new Doctor will also have to wait awhile, so there is very little in the way of solid news to discuss this week, but that didn’t stop the Three Who Rule! One thing is for sure, though – Radio Free Skaro will be at Westercon 66 in Sacramento in a couple weeks, and the convention organizers Kevin Roche and Andy Tremblay are here to tell you all about it. It’s looking like it might be an interesting summer in this, the 50th anniversary year of Doctor Who!

17 Nov 2024Radio Free Skaro #987 - A Succulent Chinese Meal01:25:11

It’s an exciting week for Doctor Who content as a new “Joy to the World” clip surfaced on Children in Need featuring snark, dinosaurs, and a Silurian in a briefcase along with a teaser from the episode’s writer, one Steven Moffat! Plus a “Coming in 2025” trailer for Disney+ that does not feature Doctor Who at all? Controversial? Not really. Plus Ncuti Gatwa in Vanity Fair being handsome as usual, a sneak peek at updated Blake’s 7 effects, and an exciting adventure in space and time as we present a special anniversary-themed Classic Series Commentary of the raw pilot recording of “An Unearthly Child”, a flub-filled exploration of early 1960s television production!

06 Sep 2015Radio Free Skaro #492 - The Log Driver's Waltz00:59:48

With only two weeks to go before we get new Doctor Who, the news is coming fast, including a new trailer for Episode 1 "The Magician’s Apprentice", a (very short and mysterious) video from Series 9 finale director Rachel Talalay, the upcoming DVD release of "The Underwater Menace" (!) and so much more! As if that wasn’t enough to stew your petunias, we also have author and Reality Bomb impresario Graeme Burk co-hosting this week and telling us about “The Doctors are In," the new book he and Robert Smith? have penned! Hurrah!

Have you ever wanted to manage the Doctor Who brand? Yes, the dream of many a British schoolchild can be yours if you have extensive experience in said management of brands and Doctor Who and probably a bunch of other stuff dummies like the Three Who Rule don’t understand. And that’s the news as new Doctor Who continues to be made, away from prying eyes! 04 Mar 2012Radio Free Skaro #300 - Build High For Happiness01:00:38

After five and a half years of middling Doctor Who talk and wildly inaccurate discussion about the programme and those who create it, The Three Who Rule reach the amazing milestone of their 300th episode of Radio Free Skaro. It's been an epic ride from virtual obscurity for our first two years of existence to where we are today, and what better way to celebrate this event than the return of the Miniscope! In this instalment, we discuss the work of minor director Nicholas Mallett, whose Doctor Who output ranged from the very worst ("Paradise Towers") to the very best ("The Curse of Fenric"), and everything in between ("The Mysterious Planet"). Given Warren's rampant distaste for the Sylvester McCoy era, surely this will be a painful experience for him...or will it? This is the type of intrigue that has kept this show going for 300 episodes, and will push it into the future for at least a couple more.

25 Jan 2015Radio Free Skaro #458 - Raspberries and Fire01:13:34

Gallifrey One! Mere weeks from now the noble RFS crew will take the stage in Los Angeles to deliver Radio Free Skaro: Behind the Magic, and here in this very podcast we announce our lineup! Who are they? Listen and find out! You’ll also hear a drabble of news, but more importantly, we also have a fun interview panel from Chicago TARDIS with Annette Badland, Noel Clarke, and Camille Coduri! Can you stand the excitement? Are we capable of asking things in a non-hyperbolic manner? The answer to both questions is surely no!

02 Jan 2011Radio Free Skaro #231 - Son of Masters00:48:48

The first Radio Free Skaro episode of 2011 features the return of the popular Miniscope segments (well, some of you liked them in the past, anyhow) wherein the Three Who Rule discuss the works of a particular writer, director, or some other behind the scenes person in their careers on Doctor Who. Dick Mills, the initial subject for this episode, was bumped to next week (about more later), so Series 3 director Charles Palmer became a last minute subject. How did his efforts rate with your intrepid hosts? Listen on!

23 May 2010Radio Free Skaro #199 - Doctor Who and the Homo Reptilia00:46:56

It shaped up to be a good week for the Three Who Rule on account of the return of some of their favourite classic series monsters, the Silurians (aka Eocenes, aka Homo Reptilia). "The Hungry Earth", the episode in which they made their first successful appearance in 40 years (see what we did there?), also had a distinctly classic feel to it, making one almost feel like we were watching Jon Pertwee's Doctor and UNIT battling with cave monsters in the 1970s (aka the 1980s). Onwards!

22 Aug 2010Radio Free Skaro #212 - Let's Do The Mindwarp Again02:03:41

In this, the penultimate Radio Free Skaro Classic Series Commentary for the summer, the Three Who Rule lucked out with the second segment of the four-part trilogy known as The Trial of the Time Lord. Lucked out, you may well ask? Well, yes, for all three hosts were fairly unanimous in their praise of Mindwarp, and the Trial season as a whole, firm in their belief that Colin Baker’s tenure as The Doctor has been unfairly maligned over the years. Disagree? Listen to the commentary to see if you will be swayed…

06 Apr 2014Radio Free Skaro #416 - Random Access Memories01:09:35

Sadly, a trio of recent deaths in the Doctor Who world lead off this week's episode, as we remember the contributions of writer/actor Glyn Jones, director Derek Martinus, and the Rani herself, Kate O'Mara. But with new Doctor Who still months away, trickles of information are beginning to emerge as to the shape of Series Eight, including returning writers (Gareth Roberts), new actors (Tom Riley) and…well, that’s about it. It’s only April! One thing you won’t have to wait for is the return of Fluid Links, where the Three Who Rule once again take your questions about the show and use their tiny mind-computers to formulate opinions. Next week, it’s another classic series commentary with "The Curse of Peladon"! Whee!

08 Sep 2013Radio Free Skaro #383 - The Firemaker01:10:45

As most of you might be aware, Doctor Who is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013, and the Three Who Rule are also doing their part to mark the occasion by celebrating and analyzing the era of each producer who helmed the show from 1963 through until the Fox TV movie in 1996. First up, the first producer - the original, you might say - Verity Lambert, who set in stone much of what we know and love about Doctor Who with help from her story editors David Whitaker and Dennis Spooner. And joining us for this segment is Doctor Who writer Jonny Morris to provide insight and opinion on the first two years in the programme's history. We look forward to peeling back the curtain on classic Who for the next several weeks leading up to the 50th anniversary on November 23!

17 Nov 2013Radio Free Skaro #393 - Flight Through Eternity01:21:25

With less than a week until "The Day of the Doctor", the Two Who Rule (Warren and Steven, Chris was on assignment with UNIT) were positively giddy with anticipation for the 50th anniversary adventure to hit their eye bulbs in glorious 3D. But before that momentous event, the BBC released “The Night of the Doctor,” with a shocking appearance by Paul McGann! Lest you think that was the only treat for Whovians this week, a 2-minute clip from Day of the Doctor was also released in conjunction with Children in Need (which we will not discuss here, spoilerphobes), and various idents and other fripfrap also helped to fuel the hype machine. But, let’s be honest, what you’re really here for is our final Miniscope, this time with Richard Molesworth (author of a new book called "Robert Holmes: A Life in Words") discussing the Phillip Hinchcliffe era. We’ve very much enjoyed doing these Miniscopes, and we hope you’ve enjoyed listening to them. And three lucky listeners won copies of Adventures with the Wife in Space, written by friend of the show (and last week’s guest!) Neil Perryman! Who were the winners? You’ll just have to listen to find out!

16 Apr 2023Radio Free Skaro #902 - Two of Us01:33:12

It’s another fallow week of news in The Land of Who but that won’t stop us going on about Star Trek Picard, Star Wars Celebration and maybe even some BBC show where Steven Moffat won the Terrance Discks Award for Writers, a new batch of novels arrive for the 60th anniversary, Once Upon a Time Lord gains a cover, the Timelash does the thing it does (going through the years and making offhand remarks) and…for real this time, Part Three of our Classic Series Commentary for “Planet of Giants”!

And so begins the Dark Times, otherwise known as waiting a month and a bit after the end of Series 8 for the Doctor Who Christmas Special. In the meantime, the Three Who Rule tackled stats, poured one out for sci-fi TV legend Glen A. Larson, and most importantly, devoted the bulk of the episode to your Series 8 related questions with the return of Fluid Links! Burning inquiries, inquiring questions, questionable burning and more! Next week, a Series 8 roundtable with Shaun Lyon, Felicity Brown, and Chip Sudderth!

01 May 2016Radio Free Skaro #527 - The One With Big Ron01:09:39

After a banner week of...well, a new companion announcement and accompanying short, which counts for a lot in this, The Year of No Doctor Who, we're back to an absolutely desolate news list-ette with barely anything of consequence beyond an art show about Target Books. Which is admittedly pretty cool! And we've also put the Series 9 commentaries on the back burner, but only temporarily, because this week we have an interview with Peter Harness, writer of "The Zygon Invasion" and "The Zygon Inversion", and all around classy fella to boot! Listen and learn (about Zygons)!

In this special mini-episode of Radio Free Skaro, Steven interviews writer Robert Shearman about his recent trip to New York to watch a  production of his 1992 play "Easy Laughter", as performed by Dirt [contained]! Rob and Steven also talk about Series 8 of Doctor Who, and Rob gives an update on the soon-to-be-released Running Through Corridors Volume 2.

The lockdown continues across the world, and this week we welcome one Erik Stadnik from the Czech Republic and Doctor Who: The Writer’s Room fame to regale us with tales of eastern European quarantine along with good natured badinage about this week’s news, which includes further tweetalongs, “Time Lord: Victorious” news, new Doctor Who video games, and a boatload of Who scripts from Series 12 for your enjoyment! And speaking of fun, we have the first two episodes of our “Planet of the Daleks” Classic Series Commentary with comedian, Who-storian, writer Toby Hadoke!

As if the build-up to and the celebration of Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary wasn't enough, the very next week after "The Day of the Doctor" wowed and amazed countless fans worldwide, more than two thousand of those fans gathered at Chicago TARDIS to revel in the celebration. Join Steven, with special guests Graeme Burk, Ken Deep, and David and Marty Hooie as they reminisce about another successful edition of the annual Midwestern convention. But that's not all! Steven spent the weekend gathering interviews with many of the guests, both onstage and off, and the first of these is presented to you here: an onstage interview with everybody's favourite Sontaran, Dan Starkey, famous for his wonderful portrayal of Strax. Listen for more interviews in future weeks from Chicago TARDIS!

It’s the return of the Miniscope! Barry Letts has both written and directed for Doctor Who (on top of his tenure as producer from 1970-74) but he finally has his day in our segment analyzing the work of behind-the-scenes notables here for his directing on “The Enemy of the World” and “Terror of the Autons”. We also talk about the upcoming Comic-Con at Home Doctor Who panel on July 25, a bevy of Big Finish releases, and look back at some notable, non-broadcast related dates in history in The Timelash!

Just as importantly, Heather is in San Diego giving us boots on the ground insights on goings on at San Diego Comic Con, as well as weighing in on such topics as Disney possibly distributing the RTD2 era of Doctor Who, Segun Akinola leaving the show, and a sad day for tat collectors as Eaglemoss goes out of business. But cheer up! Bonhomie, jocularity and optimism are our watchwords as we ascend to your podcast listening devices once more!

20 Jan 2021Radio Free Skaro - "Heaven Sent" Commentary with Rachel Talalay (2016)01:01:31

For the next three weeks, we are presenting some archive content in the leadup to our three-part Miniscope on the works of director Rachel Talalay.

Rachel has been a friend to us here at RFS, appearing no fewer than six times, and we thought it was worth re-releasing our interviews and commentaries with her over the years as a lead-in to our conversations about her work on Doctor Who.

Back in the spring of 2016, Rachel Talalay joined us to participate in director’s commentaries for both “Heaven Sent” and “Hell Bent” on Radio Free Skaro episodes 533 and 534. Here now is the commentary for “Heaven Sent”.

Stay tuned later in the week for the re-release of our commentary for “Hell Bent”.

01 Jan 2012Radio Free Skaro #287 - The Man Trap00:58:55

As 2011 draws to a close and the Three Who Rule look forward to 2012 and the next series of Doctor Who - whenever the heck it ends up being transmitted - and also deliver their commentary for the Series 6.2 opener, Let's Kill Hitler. We'll see if it stands the test of time or not, mad ride that it is. And in real-life news, hearty congratulations go out to former Doctor David Tennant and former Doctor's "daughter" Georgia Moffett on their nuptials! Now calm down, fangirls. Just. Calm. Down.

18 Dec 2011Radio Free Skaro #285 - The Menagerie01:12:04

With just a week to go until the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas Special, the Three Who Rule cast their eyes back to a simpler time, before River Song was related to the Ponds and when a baby could turn into a puddle of goo and still be broadcast pre-watershed. Yes, "A Good Man Goes to War" was our commentary this week, with all the usual off-topic and off-color discussion you've come to know and somewhat tolerate. Add chatter of our live show at Gallifrey 2012 (two months from now!), news of departing companions, Season 7's structure, and Fendahl action figures, and you've got yourself a podcast!

RFS Live from Gallifrey One in Los Angeles! Yes, it's time once again for Radio Free Skaro's annual live show at Gallifrey One, the biggest and best Doctor Who convention to grace the shores of Los Angeles and the world entire. Steven, Warren and Chris were delighted and honoured to play host to Sylvester McCoy, Philip Hinchcliffe, Stephen Thorne, Dan Starkey, Neve McIntosh, and Richard Hope. Chip, the Two Minute Time Lord, both acted as audio engineer and delivered a wonderful sermon on the importance and sheer wonder of being a fan in a community of diverse but like-minded friends.

Can we just say it one more time? PHILIP HINCHCLIFFE.

Thanks to one and all who came to the show in person, and we're delighted to offer this year's live show to our listeners who couldn't make it to L.A.

01 Jun 2014Radio Free Skaro #424 - The Day of The Day of the Doctor01:24:18

The Three Who Rule tuned their brainwaves to Doctor Who Magazine’s latest poll naming all of our favourite show’s stories from best to worst, along with favourite (and not so favourite) Doctors, companions, and other movers and shakers. Did they agree with the choices of thousands upon thousands of fans? Let’s just say there was some dissent in the ranks!

Mere preamble, however, to Fluid Links, where we answer your questions, from the sublime to the silly, about Doctor Who and somewhat less Time Lord related activity. If you’ve ever wanted to know what podcasts Warren listens to, here you go! And let’s be honest, you’re dying to know. Really.

It’s Vacations Eve for Steven and Chris and besides that the news of the week is weirdly enough Ryan Gosling wearing a Ncuti Gatwa T-shirt but hey, we’ll take what we can get! And what we get is pretty much the Timelash, a ton of Big Finish including Chronovore Content (or Chron-Con as it is also known) from Friend of the Show Liz Myles, and the finale of our gripping Classic Series Commentary for Part Four of “The Space Museum”!

20 Feb 2012Radio Free Skaro #297 - No More Janus Thorns01:31:33

Radio Free Skaro dives into history with Gallifrey 2012 guests starting with Louise Jameson, otherwise known as the beautiful savage Leela, Louise was an absolute delight to talk to about her tenure on the program and her many other roles, ranging from Shakespeare to soaps and everything in between. We went further back in time with Michael Troughton, the author of a new biography about his father, Patrick Troughton and then lurched forward again to speak with Richard Franklin, who played the redoubtable Captain Mike Yates. Ringing out the program was Charlie Ross, the comedian and preeminent nerd who kept all of Gallifrey laughing with his take on our favorite TV show. Finally, RFS closed out the proceedings with David and Marty Hooie of the "Hoo on Who" podcast, friends of the show and all-around fine chaps. Enjoy!

The time has finally arrived, with new Doctor Who gracing our screens and Bill, a new companion, capturing our hearts. Puddles, Movellans and so much more danced across our eyeballs this past Saturday in “The Pilot”, and the Three Who Rule have thoughts and bon mots to share about the return of Who and the stories still to come! But like all Moffat-era Who, there are twists and turns still to come, like the fact that Capaldi says he’s filmed the regeneration before the Christmas episode was lensed. Mystery and intrigue!

The Swarm is vicious and malignant this week, consuming Steven’s vocal chords in a perilous fashion, so it’s up to Warren and Chris to help with news descriptions about the Radio Free Skaro Gallifrey One live show, episode 1000 featuring Doctor Who showrunner and writer/producer Steven Moffat and executive producer Julie Gardner for an hour of wit and wisdom. Plus, the aforementioned Gallifrey One schedule is out in the wild, news from Russell Tovey on The War Between The Land and The Sea, a new trailer for the Season 7 Blu-Ray Collection, tat, exhibitions and Episode Three of our exciting and smooth-voiced Classic Series Commentary for “The Moonbase”!

02 Feb 2014Radio Free Skaro #404 - Page Not Found01:36:25

In the dog days before the wondrous rapture that is the Gallifrey convention in the greater Los Angeles area, the news was sparse and the fans were restless. However, the reveal of Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor costume sparked not only excitement and fevered speculation across Who fandom but was also the cause of an ill-advised tangent on cosplay by Warren, Steven, and Chris, who know less than nothing about such matters and have been replaced by trained seals in 6th Doctor costumes. Next week, the semi-demi-official Gallifrey 2014 preview episode! But for now, a commentary by the Three Who Rule for "The Day of the Doctor"!

09 Jun 2013Radio Free Skaro #370 - Pride (In The Name of Who)01:15:54

Another week and still no new Doctor Who. The long 6-month wait for the 50th Anniversary Special means speculation about the show's future in the form of the next actor (or will it be actress?) to play The Doctor. But it's not all bad as there are always stats to be had, always new Doctor Who merchandise to be discussed and/or mocked and of course talk of DVDs and just how lucky we are as Doctor Who fans to have the Restoration Team. Featured in this jam-packed episode of Radio Free Skaro is an interview with Michael D. Thomas, who as co-editor of Queers Dig Time Lords, talks about the queer segment of Doctor Who fandom and what draws people to our beloved show. Enjoy!

22 Oct 2023Radio Free Skaro #929 - Sunken Treasures01:21:22

The controversy continues as An Unearthly Child remains AWOL on the BBC iPlayer, and further flashpoints occur as the Three Who Rule wildly speculate on the continued insistence of the BBC to pretend it’s still 2008 while Disney+ does whatever it’ll do in regards to airing the upcoming David Tennant specials and beyond. Plus animation, a Who exhibit at Riverside Studios, Vicki is back in Big Finish form and Warren has an interview with author DG Valdron about his three-book series diving deep into Doctor Who fan films, “The Pirate’s Histories of Doctor Who”!

It’s a bittersweet podcast today as we wrap up what has been a fantastic weekend at Gallifrey One, our home away from home. But it’s even more sad as it’s been announced that Gallifrey One will end its unprecedented run of conventions in 2028. It will take a while for the Three Who Rule to process this (probably more than the three years the convention has left), but fun is still had with Doctor Who writer Andrew Smith joining the Three for a recap of the convention, Big Finish secrets, and naturally, talk of The Sandbaggers.

25 Aug 2013Radio Free Skaro #381 - Silver Fox01:29:10

The Three Who Rule welcome back our very good friend Chip from the Two-minute Time Lord podcast as we all talk over Neil Gaiman's most recent Doctor Who effort, Nightmare in Silver. Has some time and distance since the story's initial broadcast allowed our hearts to warm to it more, or was the extremely divisive reaction from fandom warranted and still valid? Will the effort satisfy 80s Hair Band pedants? News of the week, with Chip filling in for a very busy Warren, and which includes talk of what might just be the worst merchandise tie-in ever, rounds out this episode of Radio Free Skaro. 17 Feb 2012Radio Free Skaro #294 - The Dog Days Are Over00:34:58

The annual meet up of Doctor Who podcasters at Gallifrey One forms the backbone of this, the first of Radio Free Skaro's episodes covering the convention. Among our friends joining us is Simon Harries, late of Tachyon TV and attending his first Gally since 2010, and Josh Zimon, long time listener and now first time guest representing, along with Eric Escamilla, the Mostly Harmless Cutaway podcast. Topics discussed were the differences in popularity of Doctor Who in North America and in the UK, how Gallifrey One stands out among the many other Doctor Who conventions in the USA and in the United Kingdom, and the usual tales of ribaldry that occurs at such events and pushes the PG-13 boundaries that this podcast tries desperately to somewhat casually enforce. Enjoy, and stay tuned throughout the rest of the weekend for more episodes to come!

Plus Big Finish is bringing back not only the Doctor’s daughter, Jenny, for a second series, but also Sir Derek Jacobi for some audio chinwaggin’ about his legendary career, and of course we delve into Doctor Who history once again as we enter the…Timelash!

Yes, a day long anticipated by the Three Who Rule Has finally arrived as they were privileged to tackle the all-time classic The Caves of Androzani as a commentary. While they had long feared such a task would devolve into silent slack jawed amazement, they did their damnedest to inform and entertain to the standard being played out on screen. There's also morsels of news regarding cinema screenings and other such frippery, but c'mon! Caves! Yeah!

16 May 2010Radio Free Skaro #198 - Omnipotent Space Bastard00:43:02
Given the mixed reactions that The Three Who Rule have had about past attempts of surrealism in Doctor Who, one wouldn't expect the latest noodle-scratcher to be an episode for them to agree on. But that's just what "Amy's Choice" was, a daring and bold step into a world of dreams featuring pregnant Amys, awkward Doctors, and rampant elder abuse. Really, what's not to love? And there wasn't even one hint of The Valeyard making a return appearance. Or was there....?

16 Aug 2015Radio Free Skaro #489 - Revolution 901:07:58

A new trailer for Series 9 of Doctor Who was released this week, simultaneously stoking and dampening the fires of Steven and Warren’s clinically insane theories regarding the upcoming Capaldis of Pompeii story/rumour/nonsense. But more lunacy awaits, with Tom Baker intoning that he is joining the Star Wars universe (!?) Hacette putting out a mammoth collection of Doctor Who books chronicling the history of the show from start to finish, and the Doctor Who Fan Show interviewing Titans Comics impresario Andrew James (link in the show notes). We also have an interview with Hugos person-in-charge David D’Antonio, who talks to Steven about the upcoming Worldcon in Spokane and the Hugo Awards taking place at said con. Tune into the pre and post Hugos live show next Saturday on UStream to see Steven and Warren debase themselves like grovelling insects on the newfangled invention of video!

13 May 2012Radio Free Skaro #310 - Lesbian Spank Inferno01:51:01

It's a time of endings on this week's episode of Radio Free Skaro. Not only did the past week see the end of Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill in their roles as the Ponds, at least as far as filming goes, it also saw the end of the Upper Boat studio being the home of Doctor Who. To cap it all off, the Three Who Rule talk all over the first four episodes of Inferno, the last story to (prominently) feature the frankly awesome Liz Shaw. But it's also a time for new beginnings as the announcement of the Series 7 premiere is discussed. Every week that passes is one week closer to NEW! DOCTOR! WHO!

13 Feb 2011Radio Free Skaro #237 - Road to Gallifrey01:00:47

The Three Who Rule have set aside the Richard Martin miniscope for now so the focus of this week's episode can be the upcoming Gallifrey One convention in Los Angeles. Gally mania ramps up to fever level as the lads talk panels, podcasts and poltroonery. News of the week rounds things out, even delving into the mostly foreign world of Big Finish! Regularly scheduled programming gets accelerated in a few days time as daily podcasts from Gallifrey One begin, so remember to check your feed more often!

Yes, beloved Patreon subscribers, it's time for a holiday treat(?) as we unleash the commentary to the second of two Dalek films made in the 1960s, 1966's "Daleks - Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D." onto an unsuspecting internet! Thrill to the adventures of Peter Cushing, Bernard Cribbins, and most importantly, insouciant man of mystery Philip Madoc as they battle the diabolical pepperpots from Skaro in glorious color! Watch as Robomen engage in all manner of automated hijinks! Swoon as Daleks are trashed hither and yon! Drink, yell and be merry! Happy holidays!

There’s only a week or less (depending on when you listen) for new Doctor Who but wait! There already IS new Who in the form of a Children In Need segment starring Doctor Who the Fourteenth, a Skaro marketing middle manager, a Mark III travel machine, and a new and somewhat controversial Davros! Plus we have a flood of celebratory radio and television programmes about Our Favorite Show on its 60th anniversary, Vworp Vworp and comic book news, Amazon Prime and Tubi showing Who 2.0 and Classic Who respectively AND an interview with Benjamin Cook, Rich Tipple and Kieran Highman on their sterling work colourizing “The Daleks”!

Gallifrey One, the massive and amazing annual fan-run Doctor Who convention, is rapidly approaching and we take some time to talk to Program Director Shaun Lyon about the recently-released convention schedule and to formally announce details of our live show - Radio Free Skaro And The World Of Tomorrow! As Gallifrey One's official podcast, we'll open the convention and will be joined on stage by actress Camille Coduri, director Toby Haynes, jack-of-all-trades Barnaby Edwards and jack-of-even-more-trades Gary Russell. The Three Who Rule also cast their gaze, commentary-wise, upon Tom MacRae's amazing The Girl Who Waited to see if it stands the test of time. And of course there's the news gnashing. One month to Gally!

The news remains fallow in these Times of No Who Yet, but we do have missives from the further adventures of Doom’s Day, colourization of old episodes on many fronts, an action dolly magazine spectacular, Tom Baker’s son’s Who-themed Nottingham pub and part one of our Miniscope examination of director Saul Metzstein’s work, featuring “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship” and “A Town Called Mercy”!

06 Dec 2017Radio Free Skaro – 2017 Advent Calendar, Day 600:02:44

This holiday season, Radio Free Skaro is presenting a Fluid Links Advent Calendar! Every day from December 1 until December 24, we’ll discuss one topic from our list provided by you, the listeners. Today: Day 6.

22 May 2016Radio Free Skaro #530 - Birdemic: Shock and Terror01:19:54

Comics, commentaries, audio adventures (both new and rumoured) and a celebration of Doctor Who’s many female scientists make for a busier newslist than usual in this, The Year With No Doctor Who, and this week you even get bonus tut-tutting about Target book arrangements and criminal dips to black on CraveTV’s streaming editions of the programme. A summons to the high court of the League of Fandom is in the maoi and should be arriving at their offices soon, fear not. And if that made-up legal nonsense doesn’t engage you, how about a commentary for “Face the Raven” with Deb Stanish of Verity! fame and Alyssa of Whovian Feminism?
