SO – in this first episode of Head Noise for 2024 I’m answering these three questions

  1. 1) Should I contact the ex-wife of a man who I was seeing but then suddenly ghosted be after he found out his ex-wife knew we were seeing each other.
  2. 2) I text my new partner all the time, at least daily, but they don’t reply to me very often. After listening to your episode with Sabrina Zohar I've been reflecting that maybe I’m anxiously attached. My partner says that I am overreacting by explaining that I’m not feeling like a priority when they take ages to reply to me or don’t incorporate me into their plans. How do I communicate to my partner that this is important to me, or am I letting him railroad me and it’s part of a bigger picture?
  3. 3) My anxious attachment style is getting in the way of my relationship with my introverted partner. I’m feeling like a burden because of my hyper fixation on his feeling and me being so hypervigilant and afraid of being abandoned by him. What can I do?

There’s a lot of talk about the monoamine hypothesis of Depression, which is the theory that a reduced level of serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine in the central nervous system is what causes symptoms of depression, but is it the cause?

In this episode we’ll find out what the evidence is, and what treatments work based on that hypothesis, and how they relate to the drugs that are currently on the market to treat symptoms of Depression. 1)   My partner and I are great, and then every now and then they snap when talking about or learning about my past dating history. My dating history isn’t anything wild, and I can’t control that I’ve been with other people, so how do I deal with their reaction to the fact that they’re not my first and only love?

2)    My partner has genital herpes, and has been upfront with me about this. We communicated about expectations in our physical relationship, and how I could most be comfortable and feel protected at the same time. We are now a little further into our relationship and he has started saying things like if I want this relationship to continue I need to stop making him feel so bad about having herpes, that I make him feel dirty and ruin his self confidence because of the precautions I’ve put in place during sex to keep myself at less risk of contracting HSV.

3)    My therapist says I am anxiously attached from a past trauma. I was wondering if you could talk me through limerence vs love, because my anxiety around dating

  1. I’ve had the same partner for a few years and we’re two women in our 20s. We’ve had a few bumps in the road as most relationships do, and without sounding like a douche a fair few have them have been her doing/from her. She has pushed me away quite a few times and treated our relationship poorly in the beginning. We’ve been in a more stable and healthy relationship in the last 9  months. I still think we can get better from both sides, and listening to your podcast has made me want to share your advice with her. She doesn’t like self-help or advice books and things. How can I get her more invested without pushing her boundaries. Am I being needy and are my expectations unfair?
  2. My best mate of many years has a complicated life and mental health struggles. She has serious enmeshment with everyone she meets. Her self-image is the most important quality to her. She’s struggled with her body image issues and projected that onto her friends. She’s very rarely single for longer that 2 weeks. She’s in therapy but mostly focuses on her sexual and romantic relationships. She’s quite selfish. I’m struggling with resentment given how long we have been friends and how badly her behaviour affects me and others.
  3. Sex in my long term relationship is fizzling. I’m worried about getting the ick too after a few therapy sessions where the counsellor called out red flags in my partners behaviour. My partner really is quite sexually physical and I’m just not interested in his lacklustre foreplay and just want him to hurry up so I can go to sleep. I know this question is asked a lot but what can I do? I love my partner and don’t want this to be the end.
