22 Jan 2025100: Anthony Pellegrino - Meet The Financial Advisor Who Scaled to $460M/Year by Thinking Bigger Than Himself00:58:55

Most advisors dream of growing their business to the next level without grinding themselves into burnout. But how do you scale without sacrificing your time, freedom, and sanity?

In this milestone 100th episode of Do Business. Do Life., I sat down with returning guest, Anthony Pellegrino, founder of Goldstone Financial Group. His first appearance on the show (Episode 16) was one of the most downloaded ever, and now he's back to share how he has doubled his firm’s assets year over year—from $232M to over $460M+—all while building a business that runs without him behind the desk.

For years, Anthony prided himself on being a machine—unstoppable, always grinding. But a simple conversation with his grandmother changed everything when she told him, "Machines break." That wake-up call forced him to rethink his approach and build a firm that could scale beyond just him.

In this episode, Anthony breaks down how he transformed his role from financial advisor to CEO & visionary, built a team of elite advisors, and developed a business model that thrives without him being in the trenches. If you’ve become the bottleneck in your firm, this episode reveals Anthony’s proven system for breaking free and scaling beyond what you ever thought was possible.

3 of the biggest insights from Anthony Pellegrino …

#1.) If you’re still doing all the client work, you’re the bottleneck. Anthony shares how he removed himself from sales, client servicing, and marketing—without losing clients and growing exponentially

#2.) Helping others scale strengthens your own success. Anthony doesn’t just build his own firm—he openly shares his strategies with other advisors, proving that growth isn’t a zero-sum game. His collaboration with leaders like Matt Dixon highlights how teaching others can reinforce your own systems and elevate the entire industry.

#3.) Hiring doesn’t create competitors—it builds a stronger business. Anthony rejected the fear that training advisors would lead them to go out on their own. Instead, he built a system and culture so strong that top talent never wants to leave.

08 Jan 2025098: Dr. Henry Cloud - Today May Be the Enemy of Your Tomorrow01:05:48

What if the very thing that got you here is the one thing holding you back?

As financial advisors, it’s easy to cling to familiar clients, strategies, or routines—but what happens when those very things start to cap your growth?

Today on the pod, I’m talking with Dr. Henry Cloud—bestselling author, acclaimed leadership consultant, and a leading expert in the psychology of success and human performance.

He’s here to help you identify the habits, mindsets, and decisions that are keeping you stuck—and show you how to break free, so you can create a business that blesses your life, not becomes your life.

Henry hits on challenges every advisor is familiar with—things like saying no to clients that aren’t a good fit (regardless of how much revenue they drive), letting go of outdated strategies that no longer align with your goals, and building the confidence to step away from what’s comfortable to create space for what’s possible.

One of the things Henry said that really stuck with me is this: "Today might be the enemy of your tomorrow." It’s a powerful reminder that growth often means letting go of what worked in the past to make space for what will take you to the next level.

3 of the biggest insights from Henry Cloud …

#1.) Necessary Endings Propel Growth: Learn why letting go of what no longer serves you is a crucial step toward creating a better future—in both business and life.

#2.) The Power of Saying No: Discover how saying no to misaligned clients, opportunities, or tasks creates the space for bigger, more meaningful growth.

#3.) Don't Let Fear Make Your Decisions: Master the "ready, aim, fire" formula to confidently ensure every decision aligns with your long-term vision.

29 May 2024066: Brooke Martin - Why an Executive Assistant is the #1 Overlooked Role in Finance00:57:31

Today, I’m chatting with Brooke Martin – an incredible human being and very talented Executive Assistant who has worked with me for the past 3 years. While Brooke manages my calendar with exceptional skill, her impact goes way beyond scheduling. Brooke allows me to excel not just in my business, but also as a husband, father, and in every other aspect of my life.

In fact, here’s what she said on the pod…

My goal as an EA is to make sure that Brad shows up the best that he can. I want other people to look at our time together, however long it is, and say Brad was a better husband, he was a better father, he was a better founder, and teammate, because Brooke was his EA. I want him to be the hero to his family and the company. That's really my heart, that's my goal in this whole thing.

That is the type of person you want in your corner and I feel so grateful to have her in mine!

In this episode, we’re going to break down exactly what Brooke does for me, why this role is so critical to building a business, and how getting the right person for this role will completely transform how you do business and life.

Whether you’re unsure if you need an executive assistant, you’re actively looking to hire one, or you just want an inside look at how I work with Brooke and what a successful Executive Assistant does, this conversation is for you.

3 of the biggest insights from Brooke Martin …

  • Why I believe the executive assistant is the #1 missing role in every financial services firm – but if you value your time, are seeking professional growth, and want a better quality of life, an EA should probably be your FIRST hire!

  • What to look for when you’re hiring an executive assistant – Brooke outlines 4 key traits to identify as you interview potential candidates.

  • How to manage your calendar and your inbox more effectively – these tips are huge time savers that will help you stop working on someone else’s to-do list and start working on your own!

04 Oct 2023032: Kristin Shea & Clayton Alexander - Principles for Scaling Your Advisory Business 00:48:31

Today, we’re doing things a little differently. Instead of our usual interview, we’re recording the pod LIVE from Future Proof – the world’s largest wealth festival.

If you’re unfamiliar, it’s a 4-day event that brings together top professionals from the wealth management ecosystem to provide insights, workshops, panel discussions, and exclusive networking opportunities, driving growth and innovation in the industry.

And instead of a stuffy conference room, the event happens entirely outdoors, beachside in sunny California, making it a pretty unforgettable experience.

I’m joined on stage with our Chief Product Officer, Kristin Shea, and Triad Member, Clayton Alexander, who is the founder of Teton Wealth Group.

We’re talking all about one of the biggest struggles we see in our industry, the transition from the “advisor in charge” who is constantly grinding, to a business owner and CEO who empowers their team to scale the business.

3 of the biggest insights from Future Proof LIVE …

  • Why work-life balance is BS. Find out why you don’t have to sacrifice family to grow your advisory business.

  • Why “comprehensive planning” doesn’t differentiate you from the competition. Learn how to build a purposeful mission and define what you do better than any other advisor, so you can inspire talent to join your team & give prospects a reason to do business with you.

  • The single most important question you can ask that will help you determine the health of your company’s culture.

31 Jul 2024075: Chris & Melissa Smith - Family Brand: The Secret to Becoming a Stronger Parent, Spouse, and Family00:58:13

Today, I'm chatting with Chris and Melissa Smith, the power couple behind Family Brand.

Chris and Melissa's story is one of transformation—they were on the brink of divorce in their fourth year of marriage, but nearly 20 years later, they now have a thriving family with five incredible children.

They realized that as entrepreneurs, we often invest so much time and money into the brand, strategy, and culture of our businesses... but in the process, our families end up taking a back seat. Don’t our families deserve the same intentionality and commitment we give to our businesses?

That realization led Chris and Melissa to write a different story for their family. They founded Family Brand to help other families create a culture by design (not by default), define and live by powerful core values, and craft a clear vision for the future.

In this episode, you'll discover practical tips and inspiring insights to help you become a better parent, a more supportive spouse, and build a stronger, more united family. If you're ready to transform your family life, this conversation is a must-listen.

3 of the biggest insights from Chris & Melissa Smith …

  • Decide your family values before someone else does it for you – learn how to use the “Language Creates” concept to get your family to truly buy in!

  • Why you should model your family culture after In-N-Out Burger instead of McDonalds if you want true success for your family.

  • The power of rituals to create (and maintain) your family’s identity – and why research shows that families who eat together don’t just stay together but are also more successful and happier!

11 Dec 2024094: Dennis Moseley-Williams - The Secret to Building Lifelong Client Relationships00:48:09

Is it possible to create lifelong clients who are obsessed with your brand? Dennis Moseley-Williams says yes—but only if you stop selling products and start creating experiences that truly change your clients’ lives.

As a thought leader in the Experience Economy and founder of DMW Strategic Consulting, Dennis has helped countless financial advisors stand out in a crowded market by moving beyond transactional relationships.

Many advisors fall into the trap of cookie-cutter service models, leaving clients feeling like just another number. This “race to the bottom” commoditizes your work and makes it easy for clients to leave for someone offering a lower price.

By emphasizing less marketing and more experiences, Dennis’s approach flips the script and will help you build a cult-like following with an unforgettable brand that truly transforms lives.

3 of the biggest insights from Dennis Moseley-Williams …

#1.) Sell Experiences, Not Services: Discover Dennis’ 6-step framework for designing transformative experiences that result in lifelong customers.

#2.) Find Your Big Idea: Use this simple yet powerful prompt to uncover your big idea and avoid simply copying your competitors.

#3.) Harness the Power of Rituals: Learn how intentional rituals, like those used by the Four Seasons, can foster client loyalty and belonging (PLUS a new ritual you should implement in your own practice immediately!).

Today, I’m talking with Jamie Hopkins, the Director of Private Wealth Management at Bryn Mawr Trust and a leading voice in the retirement income planning space.

07 Jun 2023015: Corey Westphal - Helping Advisors Master Productivity, Simplify Meetings, & Optimize Data01:30:17

We’ve all heard it before: “There just aren’t enough hours in the day.”

For advisors looking to run or scale a successful practice, efficiency is crucial — and time is king. Luckily, modern technology gives advisors easier access than ever to time-saving tools. But how should that technology be implemented?

To answer that question, I’m sitting down with my longtime friend Corey Westphal, the founder and CEO of Mobile Assistant, a dictation service that helps advisors document meeting notes and information quickly, easily and safely.

On average, people speak about 7 times faster than they talk. By dictating notes from seminars and meetings, advisors can save themselves hours each week. And while dictation software has been around for some time, Corey shares some modern advancements that have supercharged the technology.

Corey and I also spend some time diving into how templates — both in technology and business — can help scale your practice. You’ll also hear us chat about ways to build a top-tier company culture, how to avoid critical mistakes when scaling, and how resilience is an unshakeable route to success.

3 of the biggest insights from Corey Westphal …

  • Customer data is quickly becoming a goldmine asset for financial advisors. Advisors who adopt enhanced technology can create opportunities for more targeted financial advice and better client experiences.

  • Actionable advice for building a culture that attracts world-class talent to your team — and strategies for leading and developing that talent once it’s on board.

  • Growing pains are inevitable for advisors who scale their practice. Learn how to balance growing your team and increasing your AUM without compromising the client experience.

24 May 2023013: Ian Cron - Using the Enneagram to Lead with Compassion, Strengthen Your Team, & Scale Your Business01:00:59

One of the biggest hurdles for financial advisors who want to build a thriving business, is the transition from a one-person operation to leading like a CEO. Up until that point, most advisors only have to worry about themselves.

But scaling a high performing team requires a completely different level of leadership and self-awareness.

And to better understand how to get to that level, Brad’s talking with Ian Cron, all about the Enneagram—a personality assessment tool that can help you understand how you and your team are uniquely wired.

Ian is a psychotherapist, Enneagram teacher and best-selling author whose book “The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery” has sold more than 1M copies.

If you want to grow your business, you can’t do it alone. You need people. And if you don’t understand how people think or their motivations for how they act, it will be a constant battle trying to scale.

Ian’s going to show you how to leverage the Enneagram to discover areas for growth, identify your blind spots, foster deeper relationships, and communicate more effectively, so you and your team can grow together.

3 of the biggest insights from Ian Cron …

  • How to use the Enneagram to build self-awareness, see the world through your team’s eyes, and lead with compassion and clarity.

  • How to strengthen relationships, navigate tough conversations, reduce friction, and empower your team, by understanding the 9 Enneagram personality types.

  • Breaking down the 9 Enneagrams types and high-level ways to manage and motivate each group.

15 Mar 2023003: Michael Hyatt - Mind Your Mindset01:10:42

Do you trust the voice in your head?

Our minds are powerful storytellers, but the stories our minds feed us as facts aren't always accurate. In fact, neuroscience research has shown that, on average, about 20% of our memories are false. And even crazier, up to 70% are distorted in some way.

Unfortunately, these stories can turn into false beliefs that keep you from reaching your true potential.

Do any of these stories sound familiar?

  • "If I don't do it, it won't get done properly."
  • "I could never land a client like that."
  • "I'm not good at sales."
  • "I work a lot, but I'm doing it for my family."

As an advisor, this type of thinking has a major impact on how you build your business and life.

But what if you could reprogram your brain to tell a new, empowering story?

Today, I'm talking to Michael Hyatt, the founder and chairman of Full Focus. He has scaled multiple companies over the years, including a $250M publishing company with 700+ employees and his own business coaching company that has grown over 60% year-over-year for the past four years.

In this episode, we're talking all about his new book, Mind Your Mindset—and how Advisors can use the principles from the book to unlock their full potential and build a company and life that they love.

3 of the biggest insights from Michael Hyatt …

  • #1 The psychology behind how your mind processes information and creates false beliefs that are holding you and your team back.

  • #2: The biggest question to ask yourself is to become conscious of your biased thinking.

  • #3 Michael's 3-step framework for rewiring your brain for empowered thinking—identifying the story, interrogating the story, and imagining a better story.

20 Sep 2023030: John Israel - How Handwriting 1,825 Thank You Cards in a Year Changed Me01:13:07

Today, I’m talking with John Israel, the founder and Chief Gratitude Officer of Mr. Thank You.

After building a successful sales career, John realized he was struggling to appreciate his life. 15 Jan 2025099: Patric Yumul - Business Growth Secrets from a Michelin-Star Restaurateur01:01:56

What do Michelin-starred restaurants and top financial advisory firms have in common? More than you might think.

In this episode, I’m talking with Patric Yumul, a hospitality industry leader who co-founded Mina Group with Chef Michael Mina, growing it from 4 restaurants to over 40 worldwide. Known for his expertise in fine dining, brand development, and team culture, Patric has built some of the most notable restaurant concepts in the industry. Now, as the CEO of TableOne Hospitality, he’s pioneering a fresh approach to hospitality, creating unforgettable guest experiences that keep customers coming back.

We explore the surprising parallels between the restaurant industry and financial services, from managing high-net-worth clients to differentiating in a crowded, commoditized market.

You learn all about the power of exceptional service—not just in restaurants, but in any business where client relationships matter (yes, that includes your advisory firm). Patric shares the exact strategies high-end restaurants use to turn first-time guests into lifelong patrons, and we explore how financial advisors can do the same by building trust, creating memorable interactions, and delivering next-level service.

The biggest insights from Patric Yumul …

  • The "Keystone Light" Effect: How a simple act of listening and personalized service at The French Laundry created a legendary guest experience—and how you can replicate this level of attentiveness in your own business

  • Why Relationships > Transactions: In a world where everything is commoditized, the best way to stand out is through hospitality—making clients feel valued, understood, and like VIPs at every interaction

  • The Power of Culture in Scaling a Business: Most businesses fail not because of bad products, but because of poor leadership and team culture. Patric explains how he transformed a failing restaurant losing $400K into a thriving business generating $600K by focusing on people first

  • Handling Poor Performers & Leadership Accountability: Patric stresses that when a team member underperforms, leaders must first look at themselves. Do they have the right tools, training, and expectations? If the issue is misalignment, it's on the leader to fix it. But if a team member lacks motivation, tough decisions need to be made.

31 Jan 2024049: Wally Elibiary - Unlocking Client Referrals from Attorneys, CPAs, & other COIs and The 24-7 Mindset01:07:15

Today, I’m talking with Wally Elibiary – a leader in the mortgage industry and the author of 24-7 Mindset.

Wally has been in the mortgage business for 20+ years and has a ton of wisdom when it comes to leveraging people, systems, and technology to scale a business.

In this episode, Wally shares his story and the problems he faced in his own company that were preventing him from achieving unlimited growth and freedom. While his mortgage business was considered “successful” he was burning the candle at both ends. Not only that, but he realized that 97% of his business was reliant on referrals from a single lead source, putting his entire business at risk.

As we dig in, Wally’s going to teach you the exact system he developed to diversify his referral network, refine his systems, and scale from a solitary $40 million loan officer to a team that consistently closes $200M in loans.

Oh yah, Wally also only works 24 hrs per week and he takes a minimum of 20 weeks of vacation every single year.

If you want to learn how he did it AND how you can apply a similar approach to your advisory firm, this episode is a must-listen!

3 of the biggest insights from Wally Elibiary …

  • Wally went from being a $40 million solo producer to building a team that closes $200+ million in loans annually. Hear how he went from one-man show to scaling his business – without sacrificing his freedom.

  • Wally was only generating 3% of his business from his existing database. Listen to him share the strategy — and the technology — he used to boost that number to 37% by creating a referral network with CPAs, financial advisors, and attorneys.

  • For the last 9 years, Wally has read 50+ books per year. But he doesn’t just read the books, he takes action! Learn his framework for retaining and implementing lessons from the books you read so you can achieve success in every aspect of life.

19 Jun 2024069: Brad Johnson & Dave Zoller - Creating Unlimited Growth and Freedom in Your Business AND Life - Streamline Replay00:42:13

Today the tables are turned! This is going to be a slightly different episode, as I’m the one being interviewed. A while back, I had the pleasure of guesting on Dave Zoller’s popular YouTube show, Streamline My Practice – which serves thousands of financial advisors by teaching them how to grow their financial practice.

The episode got a lot of engagement, to which I give full credit to Dave; he’s a great interviewer who prepared some really thoughtful questions. I think our own audience would get a lot of value from hearing this one, so I wanted to re-share it for DBDL listeners.

Oh, and in case you missed it, I actually interviewed Dave on our podcast not too long ago, and that was all about how he’s using YouTube as a marketing funnel that led to $60M of new assets for his firm! So, if you haven’t listened to that one, definitely go back and check out episode 21. In the meantime, enjoy my guest appearance on Dave Zoller’s show!

3 of the biggest insights from Dave Zoller …

  • The 3 types of financial advisors every firm needs – and what McDonald’s can teach you about building a scalable business.

Have you ever thought, “Is it really possible to scale my business and work less at the same time?” If so, this episode is for you.

Today, I’m chatting with Triad Members Craig Sullivan, founder of Sullivan Financial Partners, and Bonnie Becker, the firm’s director of operations. They’ve completely transformed their business, shifting from a founder-led model to a thriving, team-based operation.

In a saturated industry, relying on the same old lead generation tactics can make it difficult to stand out.

But when earning referrals and bringing in new assets are your lifeblood, blending in isn’t an option. So how can you set yourself apart?

Today, I’m talking with Triad member Dan DeVerna, the founder of DeVerna & Co Financial, to talk about the referral and new business success he’s found through a unique approach — writing books.

Today, you’ll hear exactly how Dan does it—and why you don’t actually need to be a writer to author a book!

You’ll also gain insights into using checklists to scale your practice, how to personalize your follow-up process to close new clients, and how meditation can lead to more engaging client interactions.

25 Oct 2023035: Matt Beaudreau - Reshaping Financial Education & Preparing Kids to Succeed at Life00:55:27

Today, I’m speaking with education disrupter, Matt Beaudreau. In 2016, Matt launched Acton Academy Placer – an alternative to the traditional education model that’s reshaping how kids learn. It’s not a school, it’s a workforce.

After working his way from public school teacher to private school administrator, Matt got an up-close-and-personal view of the education system. He saw an opportunity to revamp education to prepare students to succeed at life — not just at standardized tests — and Acton Academy was born.

Kids learn hands-on through trial and error, self-awareness, self-confidence, perseverance, and the things they're actually passionate about.

More recently, Matt Co-Founded Apogee Strong – a specialized mentorship program designed specifically to shape young men into better providers and protectors.

3 of the biggest insights from Matt Beaudreau…

  • Why the current education system fails to prepare many students for the real challenges of life — and how to reshape education to make key lessons stick.

  • The most powerful thing parents can do to prepare their children for financial literacy and sensitive real-world topics like religion and politics.

  • Ways to get your kids interested and engaged in learning about personal and family financial matters.

Today, I’m excited to chat with Triad Member Andy Heese, the president and founder of The Guardian Group.

This year, Andy and his team are on track to bring in $60 million in new assets—all without relying on a traditional marketing funnel. Instead, they focus on building strong client relationships and leveraging referrals. Andy’s “secret” isn’t a sophisticated referral program, but something much simpler: consistently showing up for clients in unexpected and meaningful ways.

In this episode, Andy shares the profound impact of prioritizing people over profits. You’ll learn about the transition from being a solo advisor to leading a successful team, effective leadership strategies to help others achieve their goals, and the inspiring story behind the Heese family’s non-profit, “Club Vallarta,” which provides low-income children in Mexico with access to educational and recreational opportunities.

3 of the biggest insights from Andy Heese …

14 Mar 2023001: Why I Quit My Job... The Story Behind "Do Business. Do Life." with Brad Johnson01:11:41

"No man ever steps in the same river twice—for it's not the same river, and he's not the same man." – Heraclitus

I love that quote (for many reasons), but now more than ever, it holds particular significance in my life.

For one, I left a 13-year career with Advisors Excel to go out on my own. It was one of the most challenging decisions of my life.

And while I'm beyond grateful for everything that role opened up for me, I realized that I had hit the ceiling in my growth and knew it was time for a new challenge.

Triad Partners was born! And I can tell you, I'm not the same person I was two years ago.

Our team set out to flip an antiquated industry on its head, which is exactly what we're doing.

Far too often, I've seen advisors sacrifice their marriages, health, relationships, and everything else that matters to walk across an industry stage recognizing their "success." That model is broken, and we're on a mission to fix it.

Not only do we partner with the top 1% of independent financial advisors, but we help them create unlimited growth and freedom in both their business AND life.

At Triad Partners, we call this #DBDL or "Doing Business. Doing Life."

That brings me to the second reason that quote rings true.

This is episode one of the new podcast, "Do Business. Do Life.", appropriately named after everything Triad Partners stands for. It's an evolution of my original podcast, which many advisors grew to love.

This podcast is my attempt to help growth-minded financial advisors reimagine what's possible. So, if you want to build your business faster than ever while also living life on your terms, hit subscribe, and get ready to level up!

29 Jan 2025101: Michael Hyatt and Megan Hyatt-Miller - Scaling a $1B+ Financial Services Firm in Less Than 4 Years00:59:06

If your business is taking over your life, it’s time to step back and rethink the playbook. Success shouldn’t come at the cost of everything else. The good news is, it doesn’t have to—and I’m the living proof.

In this episode, the tables are turned as I take the guest seat on Michael Hyatt and Megan Hyatt-Miller’s podcast, The Double Win. We dive into my journey of building Triad Partners—the company I co-founded to help independent financial advisors grow their businesses without losing sight of what really matters.

We cover everything from transitioning from a sales-driven mindset to a CEO role, to the importance of therapy for high-achieving entrepreneurs, to why business culture will make or break your success.

I hope this conversation gives you practical insights and fresh perspectives to help you break free from the hustle trap.

3 of the biggest insights from Brad Johnson & Michael Hyatt …

#1.) Breaking Free from the Hustle Hamster Wheel

Many financial advisors build a business only to find themselves working more hours than ever. We talk about the common cycle of “market, sell, repeat” and how to escape it by structuring your business to scale beyond you.

#2.) The Mindset Shift from Salesperson to CEO

Scaling a business isn’t just about bringing in more clients—it’s about shifting from a doer to a leader. I share the biggest leadership lessons I’ve learned while growing Triad from the ground up and building a 100-person team in just four years.

#3.) Culture Is Everything

Hiring the best talent is important, but if they’re not a culture fit, they’ll do more harm than good. We break down how Triad built a movement around Do Business, Do Life and why culture is the ultimate competitive advantage.

17 Jul 2024073: Solo - Why Every Entrepreneur Should Be In Therapy with Brad Johnson00:44:46

Today I’m sharing something that I’ve never talked about publicly: my personal journey with therapy and how it helped to save my marriage.

The truth is, in the early days of Triad, when I was busy putting my blood, sweat and tears into helping our team get the company off the ground...I was leaving a void at home and not showing up as the husband and father I needed to be.

I often felt like there just wasn't enough of me to go around.

Therapy is what helped me get things back on track – including being a better entrepreneur, father and husband. Essentially practicing what we preach when it comes to Doing Business and Doing Life.

That’s why I’m going deep today and sharing some intimate details and key lessons from my own therapy journey. My hope is that it will help you spot opportunities where you can also level up and start doing business and life even better.

3 of the biggest insights from Brad Johnson …

  • A powerful story highlighting Michael Hyatt’s vulnerability and success in therapy – and how that taught me that true strength lies in seeking help.

  • Why nobody is willing to follow volatile leadership, and how therapy gives you the tools to become a calm and confident leader instead.

  • Why I believe therapy needs a massive rebrand – without the stigma! Going to therapy is not a sign of weakness, it’s just another form of coaching and a giant step toward becoming the best version of yourself.

TO ANYONE WHO IS STRUGGLING

If you’re hurting right now and need somebody to talk to, please reach out and I will do my best to personally help. Whether that's hopping on a quick call to lend an ear OR sharing the resources that helped me during times when I was quietly struggling. Email brad@bradleyjohnson.com and we'll go from there.

22 Nov 2023039: Michael Hyatt - Dinner Dates With Your Kids, Winning At Work & Succeeding At Life with the Double Win (Live on Front Row Dads Podcast)00:59:52

What’s up DBDL Fam! We’ve got an extra special episode lined up for you today.

I was recently asked to guest host on the Front Row Dads podcast. In case you’re unfamiliar, Front Row Dads was started by Jon Vroman – it’s a membership group and podcast created for fathers who want to level up their Dad game and put family first. As Jon describes it, it’s a group for Family Men With Businesses, Not Businessmen With Families. This group has by far had the biggest impact on how I show up for my family – so if anyone’s interested in learning more about that group, definitely go check them out.

Not only did I get to take over the Front Row Dads podcast for an episode, but I got to decide who I was going to interview. I chose someone who I greatly admire when it comes to both business and family – the one and only, Michael Hyatt, who is a NYT bestselling author and the founder of Full Focus.

3 of the biggest insights from Michael Hyatt …

  • Why you don’t have to sacrifice family in order to succeed in business – you can have both!

  • How Michael maps out his schedule, including planning date nights with his 5 daughters.

  • The story of when Michael’s wife told him that despite his incredible success, she felt like a single mom – a moment that completely shifted how he shows up as a husband and father.

03 May 2023010: Robert Glazer - Elevate Your Team, Avoid Burnout, and Drive Sustainable Growth01:16:47

We're ending the steroid phase of high-growth organizations that just kind of grew by breaking people and burning through them.” – Robert Glazer

Gone are the days of pushing people to unreasonable limits in order to hit “company goals.” People need boundaries. They need time away from work, so that when they are working, they’re focused, energized, and engaged.

Organizations can either provide the space to do that OR they can resist, burn out their team, and lose valuable players to a competing company that’s embracing the evolution of how people want to work.

This is what today’s conversation with Robert Glazer is all about.

Robert is an entrepreneur, author, and the founder of Acceleration Partners, a global partner marketing agency that has won more than 30 awards for company culture—despite the fact that their 270-person team is fully remote!

In this episode, we’re diving into Robert’s newest book, “Elevate Your Team,” to discuss his tips and tricks for helping your business thrive while improving your team’s personal and professional lives.

3 of the biggest insights from Robert Glazer …

  • The four elements of capacity building—spiritual, intellectual, physical and emotional—and how leaders can use them to create a more open, motivated and connected company culture.

  • Tips for avoiding burnout for yourself and your team members while maintaining stable business growth.

  • Why using a 90-day transition plan to help struggling employees find a new role within your firm (or land a new job elsewhere) can increase success for your firm.

31 May 2023014: Jamie & Jim Sheils - The Family Board Meeting Framework, Tech-Fasting, & Unforgettable Date Nights01:12:03

When I first started Triad, there were a lot of unknowns. But one thing was crystal clear in my heart: I refused to build a business that would come at the cost of my family.

I wanted to create a company that not only thrived but also freed me up to cherish life’s most precious moments with my wife and kids.

So many advisors fall victim to the idea that in order to succeed, those important moments have to take a back seat.

The truth is, the “I’m doing it for my family” narrative is completely broken. Your kids, your spouse, they don’t care about your business or the money in your bank account. They just want you!

No resource has made that clearer to me than The Family Board Meeting by power couple, Jamie and Jim Sheils.

Their “Board Meeting” strategy has helped approximately 300,000 business leaders worldwide succeed at home.

I have personally gifted their book to countless friends and co-workers, and I have seen firsthand how their framework has saved marriages.

While there’s no perfect playbook for being a parent, The Family Board Meeting has been instrumental to my success as a Dad and husband, and today you’re going to see why.

3 of the biggest insights from Jamie & Jim Sheils

  • The 3 guiding principles to holding an effective Family Board Meeting and the impact that one-on-one quarterly’s can have on strengthening your relationship with your kids.

  • Discover practical strategies to regulate device time, revitalize family dinners, and connect with your kids on a deeper, more meaningful level.

  • Unlock the secret to unforgettable date nights and reignite the passion that first brought you together.

04 Dec 2024093: Solo - Why Most Financial Advisors Are a Commodity (And What To Do About It)00:37:52

Have you ever wondered how McDonald’s turned a simple hamburger into the Big Mac—one of the most iconic products in the world? What made them so different from every other hamburger stand that existed?

They didn’t just sell ingredients; they sold a process, a unique experience that only they could deliver.

Most financial advisors fall into the same trap as the countless hamburger stands that never made it big. They focus on selling “ingredients” like annuities, ETFs, or asset managers. But when your offer looks and sounds just like the firm's down the block, how can clients tell the difference?

McDonald’s thrived because they didn’t just sell hamburgers—they sold a Big Mac. And in the same way, the advisors who scale their businesses are the ones who package their expertise into a proprietary, one-of-a-kind process that clients can’t get anywhere else.

In this episode, I’ll show you how to do the same for your advisory firm by turning your services into a proprietary, trademarked process that sets you apart in a crowded industry.

3 Big Insights from This Episode:

1.) Packaging Is Key: Stop listing “ingredients” like tax planning and investment management. Instead, create a proprietary, trademarked process that sets your firm apart and builds trust.

2.) Speak Aspirationally, Not Informationally: Clients don’t care about Sharpe ratios or betas—they care about living their dream retirement. Learn to frame your services around the outcomes your clients actually want.

3.) Simplify the Complex: Confused prospects never buy. Use clear, tangible demonstrations to take clients from overwhelmed to confident about their financial future.

Today, I have the pleasure of talking with Triad members Tim and Julie Sullivan – a dynamic husband and wife team that lead Strategic Wealth Advisors Group together.

After joining Triad in early 2023, Tim and Julie have grown their business by leaps and bounds. Not only did they just sign a $12 million client (their biggest ever!), they’re also already more than halfway to hitting their $70 million AUM goal this year.

But Tim and Julie's journey isn’t just inspiring because of their thriving advisory practice... It's also how they’ve turned serious personal tragedies into powerful motivators for success in business and life. Plus, how they’re giving back by starting their own non-profit, Light the Way.

In this episode, we talk about the Sullivan’s incredible journey, why they have such a heart for giving back to their community, and some of the simple changes they’ve made in the past year that have fast-tracked their business success.

3 of the biggest insights from Tim & Julie Sullivan …

20 Nov 2024091: Ian Cron - The Fix: How Hidden Addictions Keep Financial Advisors Stuck01:07:29

In nearly two decades of working with some of the world’s top independent financial advisors, I’ve seen all kinds of hidden addictions—and, honestly, I’ve been guilty of a few myself. From the outside, it might look like everyone has it all together: polished, successful, in control. But beneath the surface, even the most disciplined and high-achieving people in this business are dealing with struggles we rarely acknowledge.

And it's not always the obvious issues society labels as “addictions.” Oftentimes they’re subtle, often invisible patterns we fall into—patterns that can damage relationships, compromise health, and eventually eat away at our peace of mind.

That’s why I wanted to invite Ian Cron on the show. He’s releasing a new book, The Fix, which takes a fresh and deeply compassionate look at these hidden habits.

Ian points out that while most people think of addiction in terms of substances like drugs or alcohol, there’s a whole spectrum of “quick fixes” that quietly complicate our lives—things like overworking, people-pleasing, or constantly chasing achievement. These behaviors might not leave bottles stashed in desk drawers, but they can be just as damaging.

Ian shares practical principles from his book that go beyond traditional ideas of addiction, offering guidance for anyone who wants to reclaim control, set healthier boundaries, and live a more intentional life.

3 of the biggest insights from Ian Cron …

1.) How to recognize hidden addictions—and why no one is immune

Addiction isn’t always obvious. Ian breaks down how even the most successful people can fall into patterns of overwork, people-pleasing, or constantly chasing success. Learn how to identify these hidden habits and take the first step toward breaking free.

2.) The growing grip of technology addiction—on us and our kids

From endless scrolling to digital distractions, technology has quietly become one of the most pervasive addictions. Ian shares insights into how it affects not just adults but our children, and how to reclaim our focus and connection in a hyper-digital world.

3.) A fresh, practical take on the 12-Steps for everyone

Ian modernizes the timeless principles of the 12 Steps for recovery, making them accessible for anyone—not just those battling substance abuse. Discover how these steps can help you build healthier boundaries, reconnect with what matters, and create lasting change in your life.

Today’s episode is a tough one, but an important one. I wanted to take a moment to honor someone who profoundly impacted my life – my friend, John Ruhlin.

28 Aug 2024079: Bentley Caldwell - How to Dress for Success as a Financial Advisor01:07:01

Today, I’m talking to Nashville’s #1 men’s stylist, Bentley Caldwell, all about what financial advisors should be thinking about when it comes to their wardrobe.

Financial advising is a trust-based business, and clients need to feel confident in your ability to manage their finances. That’s why what you wear matters.

How you dress and present yourself shapes how prospects and clients perceive you. It says a lot about your personality, the quality of your work, your attention to detail, and so much more.

Not only that, but first impressions stick. Before you even say a word, potential clients are sizing you up based on your appearance, so it’s critical to know what to wear – and what NOT to wear!

That’s why I wanted to bring Bentley on the show. He’s an expert at helping entrepreneurs take their image and confidence to the next level. In fact, he’s Michael Hyatt’s stylist – and if you know Michael, you know that’s saying a lot.

Dressing nice may seem obvious, but knowing what to wear, how to wear it, and where to buy it, can quickly become overwhelming.

In this episode, we dive deep into the intentional details that make a lasting impression with clients, actionable steps to elevate your wardrobe, and some of Bentley’s best advice for developing an authentic style that you can wear with confidence.

3 of the biggest insights from Bentley Caldwell …

  • The psychology behind dressing for success and how elevating your wardrobe can boost your confidence and make you more relatable to high-end clients

  • Why sticking to timeless, professional styles is more impactful than chasing fleeting trends – and simple style hacks that every advisor can use

  • The power of discovering your personal style and why spending on quality pieces that fit well is a long-term investment in your personal and professional success.

05 Apr 2023006: Simon Bowen - Using Visual Models to Simplify the Complexity of Finance00:59:39

As a financial advisor, your clients don’t choose you because they want an average future; they choose you because they want to win the game of life.

The problem isn’t that you don’t know how to build a plan that will get them there.

The problem is that you have to convince them that you are the person who can help them do it.

So, how do you communicate to prospects that you’re the right person for the job?

Today’s guest, Simon Bowen, is here to help you with that answer.

Simon is Australia’s #1 authority on visual based thinking. In other words, he’s a master at using drawings to simplify complex ideas and information.

Through his proprietary process, The Models Method, he has helped Fortune 500 companies, heads of Government, the military, industry leaders, and countless organizations, to accelerate performance.

Whether it’s to convert more clients, distill complex topics into easy to communicate language for your team, or create higher levels of ownership across your organization so you can effectively scale, Simon’s visual models can help you get there.

3 of the biggest insights from Simon Bowen…

#1 The “compete & retreat” sales talk that’s pushing your prospects away—and what to do instead to create a collaborative communication experience that builds value and trust.

#2 Powerful whiteboarding techniques you can use during meetings, to simplify complex concepts and help your clients visualize a path to success.

#3 Why you can’t build a scalable or sellable business that relies on your sweat equity—and how to instead distill your genius into replicable frameworks that your team can easily model.

15 Mar 2023002: Shawn Sparks - The 5 Pillars to Scaling Your Advisory Business01:22:33

In our industry, it’s all too common to treat revenue numbers as the ultimate scoreboard. But if that’s your only game plan, not only will your progression hit a ceiling, but burnout is inevitable.

Today, I’m sitting down with Shawn Sparks of Triad Partners, to talk about what it means to truly succeed as a financial advisor.

Think about it this way… If your numbers are on the rise, but your family is eating dinner without you most nights, is that really how you’d define success?

In this episode, Shawn shares a much better approach to building a business; one that gives financial advisors unlimited growth, freedom, and joy. Or as we define it, a “Do Business. Do Life.” approach.

You’ll hear how we’re uniquely positioning ourselves at Triad to serve advisors at the highest level, why freedom doesn’t have to come at the cost of growth, and what it takes to scale without becoming a victim of your own success.

3 of the biggest insights from Shawn …

  • #1 Learn the sustainable approach to scaling your business as a financial advisor, and why focusing on productivity alone is one of the biggest mistakes you can make.

  • #2 The 5 pillars to scale [Vision, Marketing, Sales, Operations, Culture] and why there’s no limit to what you can accomplish when they all work together.

  • #3 Realizing there are actually 3 different “types” of advisors required to create an unbeatable client experience, attract more referrals, and eliminate the limiting belief that you have to carry all of the weight of running a business on your own.

06 Nov 2024089: Solo - The Little Known Meeting Hack That Can Change Everything for Financial Advisors with Brad Johnson00:28:48

Throughout my years of coaching advisors, I’ve noticed one of the most common traps they fall into is letting meetings run too long. It may feel like good service, but long, unfocused meetings can quietly chip away at your credibility.

Today, I’m sharing The 15-Minute Warning Knock Concept—a simple, yet powerful framework to help you set boundaries, improve efficiency, and show clients that your time is as valuable as the advice you give.

BTW, this concept builds on episode 81 “Optimize Your Calendar to Maximize Revenue and Freedom,” so if you haven’t listened to that, definitely go check it out.

3 of the biggest insights from the episode …

1.) Master Your ACE: Learn how to leverage the 15-Minute Warning Knock to establish Authority, Credibility, and Exclusivity (ACE) without stretching yourself thin.

2.) Stay on Schedule: Why the warning knock builds accountability into your day, keeping you on time and giving each client their full focus.

3.) Maximize the Final 15 Minutes: The final minutes of each meeting reveal clients’ top concerns and buying signals. This system helps you bring those to the forefront efficiently.

24 Jan 2024048: Triad Member – Mastering Educational Events vs Dinner Seminars & the Impact of Building a Firm vs an Agency Model with Stephen Stricklin01:15:05

Today, I’m chatting with Triad Member Stephen Stricklin, who is the president and founder of Wise Wealth LLC, an independent, full-service wealth management firm.

As a former teacher, Stephen took his passion for educating others and adapted it to the financial services industry. His firm's motto, "First Wisdom, Then Wealth," says it all – they're focus is on helping clients achieve financial peace by teaching, not just selling stuff.

In this episode, you’ll hear how Stephen shifted careers and built his own RIA from the ground up – including the major pivots he had to make in order to properly scale the business.

What I love about Stephen’s story is his willingness to evolve and adapt. Even after building his firm for 15+ years, he had the humility to let go of what wasn’t working and completely restructure how he was building the business.

3 of the biggest insights from Stephen Stricklin…

  • How Stephen borrowed Dave Ramsey’s platform (and other people’s programs), to build an audience and business from scratch – and the importance of diversifying your marketing funnel to reduce the risk of your prospect pipeline drying up.

  • Stephen had built a team that wasn’t aligned or moving together in the same direction. Find out how he completely restructured the company, built a collective vision, and created a business that could finally scale.

  • Learn to use Champagne Moments in your business to uncover your team’s personal and professional goals – so you can hold them accountable, help them succeed, and create meaningful experiences that they’ll never forget.

Today, I’m joined by Adam Holt, the founder and CEO of Asset-Map, a fintech platform that helps advisors facilitate more meaningful conversations with clients by streamlining high-level data into a simple report.

Early in his career as an advisor, Adam was frustrated with the material available to him for client meetings. To fix the problem, Adam created and introduced Asset-Map to his own practice, helping grow his AUM to nearly $1B in under a decade.

Today, you’ll hear why clients respond so well to simplicity in financial planning, how to use fintech to ask better questions in client meetings, and how to create a company culture that prioritizes life over business.

  • 3 tips for financial advisors who are struggling to stop working so much without sacrificing the upside potential of their business.

02 Aug 2023023: Rener Gracie - Harnessing the 32 Principles of Jiu-Jitsu to Succeed in Business, Relationships, and Life01:28:03

I recently got an opportunity to interview Rener Gracie – a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, coach, author and entrepreneur.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Gracie family, they are widely regarded as one of the most accomplished family dynasties in martial arts history.

Ok, so what does Jiu-Jitsu have to do with financial advising?

Well, for starters, BJJ is a complex sport with thousands of techniques and moves. Not only can learning the moves be challenging, but knowing which ones to use and when to use them, can get overwhelming quickly. As Rener says, “the right move at the wrong time, is the wrong move.

I see a lot of parallels with financial services. As an advisor, you need to be able to ditch the financial jargon and simplify the information in a way that’s easy for your clients to understand. You also have to be able to guide your clients on which tools and strategies to use depending on their specific situation.

What’s also interesting about Rener is that he’s been able to scale his BJJ schools across the country AND he’s mastered the art of creating online content to help feed that growth. So, when it comes to building an online community and attracting your ideal audience, Rener’s got a lot of wisdom to share!

3 of the biggest insights from Rener Gracie …

  • How Rener grew his YouTube channel, The Gracie Breakdown, to 870k subscribers and 196 million views – and how he leveraged his channel to build an online community of 380k paying students.

  • 3 Jiu-Jitsu principles that you can use to motivate others, resolve conflict, and overcome big obstacles in both your business and life.

  • The viral video content strategy Financial Advisors can use to turn their “black-belt” knowledge into simple to understand content that attracts their ideal clients and grows their online presence.

21 Jun 2023017: Amy Porterfield - How Financial Advisors Can Build Digital Courses01:04:20

Today, I’m talking with the one and only Amy Porterfield. Amy’s a NYT bestselling author and online marketing expert who has helped hundreds of thousands of business owners turn their unique knowledge into recurring revenue streams through scalable digital courses.

As a financial advisor, why does that matter? Well, as I’m sure you’ll agree, your time is valuable, and unlike coaching one-on-one, a course is an opportunity to share your knowledge at scale, while also reaping the benefits of expanding your reach.

At Triad, Amy’s frameworks have been a super intuitive way for us to take everything we coach on and package it up into something that adds value and is easily accessible for our members.

In this episode, you’ll hear Amy walk through the 3 main types of digital courses, the questions to ask yourself to uncover your best idea for a digital course, and the logistics of structuring a successful course so you can leave the episode with a course idea ready to go.

You’ll also get insights on using online courses for prospect lead generation, how to structure your advice to get clients to take action, and an implementable system to ease the burden of hiring and onboarding effective team members.

3 of the biggest insights from Amy Porterfield …

  • The 3 types of digital courses advisors can consider creating: the starter course, the spotlight course and the signature course — and how each serves a different purpose for the course creator.

  • Not sure how to come up with an idea for your digital course? Follow along as Amy goes through the 4 quadrants to determine your sweet spot for digital course creation.

  • Getting clients to listen to advice and getting clients to act on advice are different challenges. Hear how you can get results with client advice or digital courses by using the Tony Robbins 80/20 mechanics and mindset method

22 Mar 2023004: Triad Member - Generating $250M of New Assets in a Single Year with Matthew Peck, Derek Gregoire, and Keith Ellis01:17:01

Once per month, we’re going to release a special episode with one of our Triad members that highlights their story and shares the lessons learned from building and scaling an advisory practice.

My goal is to have genuine conversations that dig into the good, the bad, and the ugly so that we can help as many other offices out there who are listening in.

This week, I’m talking with the co-founders of SHP Financial: Matthew Peck, Derek Gregoire, and Keith Ellis.

Last year alone, their team brought in $250M of new assets—one-third of which came from client referrals. And the best part? They’ve avoided falling into the trap of “more growth = more work.”

Today, we will deconstruct how they went from being the only 3 revenue producers in the firm, carrying the weight of everything on their shoulders, to building and scaling a team that freed up their time and allowed them to create ultimate freedom in their business and life.

3 of the biggest insights from this episode …

#1 The power of a proprietary process—and how SHP used one to create better solutions for their clients, differentiate themselves from their competition, and build a business that’s exploded in growth.

#2 Why growing your business does not have to come at the cost of your time and freedom.

#3 What it takes to build a revolving door of client referrals. For SHP, ~$80M of new assets came from client referrals in 2022 - and you’ll hear exactly what caused that.

26 Jul 2023022: Anthony Zhang - Pitching Mark Cuban, Overcoming Adversity, and Investing in Fine Wine00:53:53

For any advisors who are fans of wine and/or investing, this episode is for you!

I’m speaking with Anthony Zhang, co-founder and CEO of Vinovest—an online platform that allows anyone and everyone to invest in fine and rare wine.

In the past, wine investing was exclusively reserved for the ultra-wealthy. However, Anthony figured out how to leverage technology to eliminate barriers and make this lucrative asset class a lot more accessible.

BTW, this isn’t his first startup either. A separate company was backed by Mark Cuban and later acquired when he was only 21 years old. After a successful exit, he went on to start and scale multiple businesses. So, a lot to learn here on growing a team and getting the right people on the bus.

3 of the biggest insights from Anthony Zhang …

  • Why wine investing not only delivers delight, but also minimizes taxes and offers consistent returns that have outpaced the stock market.

  • The values-first hiring process that allowed Anthony to scale Vinovest into a lean 20-person company that manages 9-figures in assets.

  • How Anthony turned adversity into abundance and gratitude after an accident left him paralyzed from the neck down.

01 Jan 2025097: Solo - The First Thing I’d Do as a Financial Advisor (If I Could Start Over)00:29:31

If I had to start over as a financial advisor, what would I do differently?

Today, I’m sharing the lessons I’ve learned from years of coaching the top 1% of financial advisors. Whether you’re just getting started or you’re already running a successful firm, this episode is packed with actionable steps to help you avoid the grind and build a business with intention.

We’re going to cover how to create freedom in your business, maximize your time, and build the structure you need to scale. These aren’t just ideas—they’re proven strategies that can transform your practice and your life.

3 of the biggest insights from the episode …

#1.) Your Very First Hire Should Be: Let me just say it—if you don’t have someone managing your time, your calendar is running your life. I’ll break down why hiring an EA should be your first move, even if it’s just part-time or virtual. [link to an episode]

#2.) Track the Right Metric: Most advisors focus on revenue or AUM, but here’s the truth: the most important number is how many first appointments are on your calendar. I’ll show you how to set up a consistent marketing funnel to make sure you never run out of prospects. [link to ideal calendar]

#3.) Run Your Business Like a Business: I get it—it’s easy to stay in advisor mode. But if you want to scale and create freedom, you’ve got to start thinking like a CEO. I’ll share how to structure your team, define clear roles, and build a business that doesn’t fall apart when you take a vacation.

17 May 2023012: Triad Member - Doubling Business by Letting Go, Empowering Your Team, and MASTERING Seminars with Tom Jacobs01:02:24

For many advisors, the idea of running a seminar conjures up images of wasted time, low ROI and an audience just there for a free dinner.

But for Triad member Tom Jacobs, seminars have been the key to growing by more than 11x in just six years.

In today’s episode, I talk with Tom about how he’s embraced seminars to create a wave of momentum for his practice. In addition to tips about how you can do the same, you’ll hear Tom discuss his mindset for giving presentations, how he leans on his team for the seminar follow-up process, and his strategies for continuing to improve his seminars.

You’ll also hear about the benefits that come from investing financially in your team, how advisors can grow their practices by running fewer meetings, and how Tom bounced back from a $4M bankruptcy during The Great Recession—and his tips for moving forward from low points.

3 of the biggest insights from Tom Jacobs …

  • How Tom’s philosophy of “If you love seminars, they'll love you back” has helped him grow total assets from $7.7M in 2016 to more than $91M through 2022, along with tips for effectively running your own seminars.

  • The idea of “who, not how” and how advisors can use it to build out new revenue-generating branches of their businesses without adding significantly more work to their own plates.

  • Strengthening personal relationships with both your team and your clients to indirectly lead not just to more financial success for your business, but more personal fulfillment for yourself.

15 May 2024064: Triad Member - Unlocking Rapid Growth by Empowering Your Team & The Power of Selfless Leadership with Jordan Flowers01:04:30

In this episode, I’m talking to Triad member and financial advisor Jordan Flowers who leads Wealth Financial Services & Tax Advisory along with his father Thomas.

When Jordan and his company first joined Triad in 2022, they had roughly $20 million of AUM. Fast-forward to 2023 and they nearly doubled their total assets to $39.4 million. And what’s even cooler, is that scaling their firm didn’t have to come at the cost of their time and freedom. In fact, Jordan’s Dad is only working 4-5 months of the year, while spending the rest of time “doing life.”

In this episode we talk about what actions Jordan and his team have taken to supercharge their growth while actually improving work-life balance and creating a stronger culture in the process.

You’ll also notice a through line to Jordan's story is centered around selfless leadership and serving his team and clients at the highest level.

3 of the biggest insights from Jordan Flowers …

  • How to avoid the “advisor-in-charge” model that leads to burnout and empower your team instead – so you can free up your time, rapidly scale, and deliver far better results for your clients.

  • Jordan’s secret to running educational events that win the hearts of prospects and generate a ton of new business for his firm.

  • How to uncover your clients’ biggest bucket list goals and help them create a financial plan that allows them to spend with confidence.

12 Jul 2023020: Triad Member - Checking Your Ego, Replacing Yourself, and Prioritizing Family with Clayton Alexander01:35:31

Today, I’m talking with Triad member Clayton Alexander. Clayton is one of the most intentional leaders I know and has learned how to effectively invest in (and empower) his team. As a result, his business has seen exponential growth. And the best part is, he isn’t the one that has to handle everything himself.

For context, in 2021, his company brought in $60M of new assets, 80% of which came from him. As you can imagine, the business consumed his life and resulted in massive burn out.

Compare that to one year later… After making some major changes, the firm did $78M of new assets, and less than 50% came from him.

The big difference? He learned how to let go of his ego, empower his team, and get the heck out of their way!

3 of the biggest insights from Clayton Alexander …

  • How busy advisors can leverage the crucial but often-overlooked executive assistant role to create the best possible work-life balance.

  • Putting family first and the importance of making sure there are no cracks in the foundation of your most important relationships — including your relationship with yourself.

28 Jun 2023018: John Ruhlin - The Art & Science of Radical Generosity and Relationship Building01:04:10

Raise your hand if you’ve ever sent or received a corporate gift? It’s pretty common practice in our industry to receive branded swag as a “thank you for doing business with us.

The problem is, most of the time, it’s meaningless junk. I don’t know about you, but a key chain or mug with a big company logo on it, doesn’t really make me feel appreciated.

While sending gifts like this is a well-intentioned act, it’s actually doing you and your business more harm than good.

If this has been your approach to loving on your clients, team, and the people in your life who matter most, I’m here to tell you that you’re doing it wrong. And btw, I’m not here to judge… I’m totally guilty of giving gifts like this too!

It was only after meeting today’s guest, John Ruhlin, that I started honing my skills in the art of gift giving.

If you’re unfamiliar, John is a Gifting Expert and author of Giftology, a methodology that’s been used by some of the largest companies and pro sports teams in the world.

In this episode, he’s going to share how you can use his system to cut through the noise, increase referrals, and strengthen relationships with the people who matter the most.

If you want to win the hearts and minds of influential people, attract your ideal clients, and enjoy the benefits of a growing business and meaningful relationships, both personally and professionally, this episode is for you!

3 of the biggest insights from John Ruhlin …

  • Why price tags have nothing to do with effective gift-giving — and how to craft a personalized gift that will move your relationships forward and leave a presence in your absence for years to come.

  • Could sending golf balls and polos have a negative effect on developing relationships with key prospects? Learn why company-branded items can reduce your status in the eyes of the recipient — and what to send instead.

  • Statistically, only 10%-20% of widows stick with their financial advisor after a spouse passes away. The data illustrates a key point — doing business with someone means doing business with their inner circle, too. Hear how you can use gift-giving to turn close relationships of key clients into your biggest allies.

24 Apr 2024061: Jeffrey Shaw - Attracting Ultra-Wealthy Clientele and Becoming a Photographer to the Stars01:19:59

This week, I’m talking with Jeffrey Shaw, who is an entrepreneur, business coach, and one of the most preeminent portrait photographers in the United States. His portraits have appeared on The Oprah Show, CBS News, in People and O Magazine, and even hang on the walls of Harvard University.

His unique style made him the go-to photographer for renowned figures like supermodel Stephanie Seymour, news anchors Jim Nantz and David Bloom, sports icons like Tom Seaver and Pat Riley, among many more.

What’s interesting about Jeffrey’s story is how he built his brand and carved out a niche serving the ultra-affluent – and while he’s in a completely different industry, there’s so many great parallels for advisors who want to build a brand and business that stands out and gets the attention it deserves.

3 of the biggest insights from Jeffrey Shaw …

  • How closely studying his ideal clients early on allowed Jeffrey to build his brand to be so in demand that he was able to maintain an eight-week waiting list for 15 years straight.

  • How to find your ideal clients, understand what makes them tick, and tailor your marketing to meet their needs, so you can serve them at the highest level.

  • How to improve customer perceived value AND create a frictionless client experience so you can increase demand, build loyalty, and charge higher prices!
