Eric Koester is a former entrepreneur turned professor at Georgetown University. He is called "The Book Professor" because one of his classes is geared around helping students write and publish a book.

18 May 2022Podcast Hiatus Update + SXSW EDU Talk with Armel Talla01:12:29

Yo! What is up everyone, it has been a MINUTE since we released an episode! A couple of updates below:

1. This is a different type of episode as this is a talk that Justin Nguyen (your host) and Armel Talla did at SXSW EDU earlier this year. It's all about the student perspective and how higher educational institutions can work on engaging their students using social media.

2. We are looking for a new host of the podcast! No real requirements other than being a people person and you're currently in college! If you're interested, please email Justin at justin@declassifiedmedia.co (Don't worry, we handle all of the editing!)

3. We are looking to expand Declassified Media's social media presence with the launch of 2 more pages. @declassifiedcompsci and @declassifiedfinance. If you're interested, please email Justin at justin@declassifiedmedia.co

There aren't any requirements to the pages other than being technical major (for @declassifiedcompsci) and a finance major (@declassifiedfinance) and being a people person who is open to being on camera! This would be a trial period and if you're a fit with the team a paid position to be a content creator! (Don't worry, we would handle all of the editing!)

15 Jan 2021ep. 115 how to meet The Rock | career advice with UCF graduate students00:09:36

In the Fall I was the judge of a podcast competition a UCF. When I heard this podcast topic around the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon, I knew that I had to have them share their knowledge on the show.

What are the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon? Well Kevin Bacon is an actor and typically actors are hard to reach. But this theory says that you if you look out 6 degrees from a connections perspective, you can find someone who knows Kevin Bacon.

In this episode you will hear from Danyel, Danielle, and Deena talk about how they used the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon and how you can too!

11 Mar 2020ep. 14 if you want to network, join a student club | college advice for sophomores00:05:44

Many people join school clubs to put it on their resume. That's great and all, but there is much more to student clubs than just being able to say that you were an active member of the "Young Investors Club" on your resume.

There's networking... I go over how school clubs are the easiest way to "infiltrate" and practice your networking skills with people who are your age and who you're probably more comfortable talking to compared to a senior executive at a company.

10 Aug 2020ep. 65 just graduated... is it time for an MBA? | college advice for graduate students00:09:55

Start of season 6, we're going to be talking all about MBAs and Masters degrees!

I've been asked too many times "Should I get my Masters right after graduating?" and tbh I don't feel too qualified to answer since I have never gotten a graduate degree.

This episode you will hear from 2 MBA and 1 MS graduate, Colleen Clare, Troy Gregory, and Alexa Cabal. They got their MBAs and MS from the University of West Florida, Northwest Nazarene University, and the University of Central Florida (Go Knights!) respectfully.

If you're debating on getting an MBA or Masters degree, this is a season you need to pay attention to. Even if you're early in your college career, this could be incredibly insightful too.

A big shoutout to Grant, Abishek, Saina, Alexandra, David, Kevin, Faye, Sarah, Kenny, and Neal for inspiring the topic of graduate school for this season!

14 Oct 2020ep. 89 how do I find my "passion" | career advice with Honson Tran00:15:09

Honson's journey is filled with ups and downs, mistakes, but most importantly, how he ended up on top and knows exactly what he wants to do now.

It may not be a step-by-step repeatable process, but I believe the general lesson in this episode is something every student needs to hear.

01 Jun 2020ep. 43 these 3 books will change your life as a college student | college advice for seniors00:07:36

Reading isn't something that we are brought up to love. In high school we're forced to read books that we hate and it sort of ruins reading I think. But when you actually find a book that you like, it can be tough to put down, or in my case stop listening to as I listen to audiobooks.

These 3 books will help you build a solid foundation for a lot of skills that you will need to know and understand in the future:

The Third Door by Alex Banayan - This will help you with networking and really change your mindset around "I'm just a student, who would want to meet with me".

The $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau - For anyone googling "How To Make Money In College" or "I'm broke How Do I Make Money" this is a perfect book for you

Money Master The Game by Tony Robbins - Learn about personal finance from Financial Titans, but in a way that the "average" person can understand. There is less financial jargon in this book and it can definitely help you in the long run.

Bonus*

The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris - With everything moving remote, you can use Tim's tips to begin to shape the life of your dreams.
