In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Steve Irwin became an international phenomenon with his immensely popular TV show "The Crocodile Hunter," which showcased the wild Australian Outback where he grew up. The show also introduced the world to his signature and much-imitated catchphrase "Crikey," cementing his place in Pop Culture.  

Irwin's red hot career was not without its missteps, however. In 2004, he seemingly dangled his baby over a hungry crocodile in front of a large crowd of spectators. Bad press followed, but he shook it off and survived. Then in 2006, there was chance encounter with a pissed-off stingray.  That he did not survive.

Brian Jones was a founding member and the original genius behind the Rolling Stones. He spent the mid-1960s on top of the pop world, playing music, making money and meeting lots of women. But despite everything, he couldn't get no satisfaction. By 1969, Jones would be kicked out of the group he helped create, his girlfriend would dump him for his bandmate, and he would be found dead at the bottom of his swimming pool under dodgy circumstances. After the untimely passing of Elvis Presley, his estate was thrown into disarray.  Investigations into his prescription drug abuse would go on for years and threaten to tarnish his legacy. There were many questions: Was Dr. Nick an enabler? Did the Colonel work him to death? Did he really mix mashed potatoes with sauerkraut?

Elvis's only daughter, Lisa Marie, grew up in the midst of this chaos. Her own journey brought her to Scientology, Michael Jackson and being the sole heir of the Presley estate. Eventually, she followed in her dad's footsteps and became a recording artist, releasing multiple albums. But sadly, she also inherited his addiction to pain killers. 

In the latter part of her life, Lisa Marie was rocked by tragedy with the sudden death of her son Ben Keough. The trial began in 1993 and became a media sensation when it was broadcast live on cable in the heyday of trash talk shows and tabloid television.  Erik and Lyle  Menendez became household names -- and national punchlines. Their public image of being spoiled rich brats would take a turn, however, when they revealed the dark secrets of their dad, Jose Menendez. They were the first huge True Crime story before True Crime was even a thing.

It's been a tough week for Ashton Kutcher. On Thursday 9/7/23, his best friend Danny Masterson was sentence to 30 years to life in prison for sex crimes. The next day, character letters written to the judge asking for leniency when sentencing Masterson were made public. The most prominent supporters were none other than Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, Hollywood power couple and both former co-stars of Masterson on That 70s Show. The public outcry was loud and forced them to issue an ill-received apology.

Matthew Perry is dead at age 54 after a long history of substance abuse. He was found unresponsive in his hot tub after an apparent drowning due to cardiac arrest. More details to come on his exact cause of death.

Perry had a career filled with hits (a little show called FRIENDS...hello!!!), misses (best we forget THE WHOLE TEN YARDS) and everything in between (STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP). In 2022, he published a brutally honest memoir called FRIENDS, LOVERS AND THE BIG TERRIBLE THING, which focuses on his never-ending battle with drug addiction. 

We were recording another episode when we got the breaking news about his death on 10/28/2023. This is our reaction. Could it BE any timelier? We go over his life and career, plus insane stories from his book.

Super Bowl Sunday. Atlanta. January 30, 2000. The Big Game was a Big Thriller and came down to the final play. But the real drama took place off the field. Ray Lewis, a Star Linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, found himself at a post-game party where a drunken altercation turned deadly. 

By the time the clock ran out, he and 2 members of his entourage were charged with double homicide. A media blitz followed and Lewis was soon playing Defense again…in court. It’s one of the most infamous crimes in Sports History and we’re tackling it head-on today on Death in Entertainment!
