18 Apr 2022The Essence of our Soul with Eve Bradford01:12:02

On today’s podcast, Alexandra speaks with Eve Bradford, an incredible poet, witch, and deep spiritual practitioner.

Eve Bradford is an educator, artist and oracular practitioner working at the intersections of art, activism, medicine and magic to create work that is an uncompromising call into authentic aliveness and embodied belonging.

Eve has been producing events, curating content, facilitating community ceremony, creating ritual theater & film and generally contributing to the evolution of underground culture for the last 20 years. With Isis Indriya, she is the co-founder of Living Village Culture and The Compass at Lightning in a Bottle, as well as a collaborator and teacher with the Academy of Oracle Arts. She has toured by sailboat creating traveling feasts of story, song and food through the Gulf Islands with the Sea to Seed Tour, invoked the humanizing and healing power of story and food with the Feasting the Enemy dinner series, and been a part-time whore with the Poetry Brothel. She was a founding member of Reclaim the Streets NYC, dedicated to undermining the privatization of public space and community gardens through unpermitted celebrations in the streets and subways. She graduated from the Gallatin Division of NYU with an independently designed BA in Art Making and Cultural Process, and from California College of the Arts with an MFA in Creative Writing.

After a series of profound life-changing events in 2017, Eve began training intensively and is now a senior teacher and staff member within the Mogadao practice tradition of mythosomatic qigong, depth sexuality, and Post-Daoist philosophy. She is also a core player in SACRA Immanence Theater, a troupe dedicated to theater as the apotheosis of sacred embodiment, radical creativity and queer ontology.

Eve currently stewards a small acequia-fed homestead and heritage orchard on the lands of the Tiwa and Pueblo People in what is now often referred to as Northern New Mexico. She offers drop-in classes, retreat immersions and private sessions that call upon the full capacity of our integrated personal ecology in service of full-spectrum health, liberated embodiment, radical expression and deeply rooted ecstasy.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Eve’s definition of depth, and how depth or surface is neither good or bad, but that they simply hold opposite ends of the spectrum of our reality.
  • Ideas and discussion on the soul and how the soul is not separate from our erotic essence, but rather at the core of it.
  • How the villainazation of sexual energy is crucial to capitalism and the patriarchy thriving, and how reclaiming our power is key to not continuing to unconsciously feed the systems we currently exist in.
  • The distinction between desire and craving - and how desire is the voice of the soul and craving is wanting something that is not necessarily good for us and could be coming from a trauma response or other sources, rather than the soul.
  • The difference between circumstantial and constitutional emotion, and how practice can help us change our constitutional emotional patterns.
  • And more!

10 Oct 2022Reclaiming Women's Spirituality with Vicki Noble01:11:35

In this episode, Alexandra speaks with Vicki Noble!

Vicki Noble is a feminist healer and wisdom teacher, co-creator of Motherpeace and author of eight books, including Motherpeace: A Way to the Goddess; Shakti Woman: Feeling Our Fire, Healing Our World (a handbook for women healers); and The Double Goddess: Women Sharing Power (a survey of the long lineage of Amazons and Yoginis practicing female shamanism since time immemorial). After a series of psychic and spontaneous healing events in the late 1970s, Noble co-created, with Karen Vogel, the round feminist Motherpeace tarot cards revising both divination and world history to include women and people of color. In 2017, the fashion company Christian Dior licensed the Motherpeace images for a special clothing line, sending their matriarchal values out to all the urban centers of the world.

In the late 1980s, Vicki Noble founded and directed the Motherpeace Institute in California, and published an award-winning quarterly journal, SnakePower: A Journal of Ancient and Contemporary Female Shamanism. For decades she has traveled and taught internationally, and leading pilgrimage groups to sacred Goddess sites around the world; her books are translated and published in numerous languages. Her intensive teaching in Italy for more than a decade has led to a dedicated group of Italian feminist women practicing and passing on her teachings.

She is retired from teaching as a graduate professor in the Women’s Spirituality Masters Programs at CIIS, New College in San Francisco, and finally at Sofia University in Palo Alto (formerly called ITP). She has been a professional astrologer and healer, and for two decades has adapted Tibetan Buddhist Dakini practices for her Goddess students. Currently she holds private intensives and Motherpeace Certifications in Santa Cruz, where she lives near her family and close to the Pacific Ocean, gardening, walking, and watching whales.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Reflections on the overarching respect of celebrity and youth culture in the U.S. and subsequent lack of valuing our elders in our culture, and how that differs from indigenous cultures throughout history and today.  Plus, ideas on how that greatly impacts women, and especially older women, going through menopause and beyond.
  • The origins of Vicki’s work and co-creations of the Motherpeace tarot deck and her book Shakti Woman, how the tarot community reacted to the deck at the time of its creation, and how the work holds up and is still relevant today.
  • Reflections on our move into patriarchy as a society, and how that took us away from living as sacred, living collectively, living sustainably, and experiencing life from a female-centered, peaceful way of living.
  • Ideas around separating the patriarchy from masculinity, and the complexities and process of this journey as women living within the patriarchy interested in healing with the masculine in our own lives.
  • Reclaiming women’s spirituality in our culture, and how it is also a call for structured practices and commitment.
  • And so much more…

––

Human Design is a synthesis of ancient wisdom and modern science that sheds light on a person’s energetic makeup, as well as specific tools they can use to live at their happiest, healthiest, highest potential. It doesn’t change who they are; it teaches them who they are. It offers insight into what’s possible, and highlights the significance of understanding and living as the fullest expression of themselves.

By putting this tool to work in her own life, Erin is showing the world a new way of work, a new path toward success, and a new perspective on living as you truly are.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Ideas on being at the phase of your work where you are working on becoming an expert in something, and how gaining critical feedback from people intaking your work is a critical part of the process.
  • Ideas on the importance of being able to sustain and support yourself financially while you are building your own business, and how it’s important to be able to test out the viability of your budding business for awhile before going all in.
  • Reflections on hustling while you’re building a business, and how your human design may impact your relationship to hustle and how it may be helpful to you or not on your own career or project path.
  • The origin of human design and how Erin takes a very mystical tool down into a practical, empowering, and accessible tool for herself and her clients to apply to their own careers and lives.
  • How understanding your own human design can help you release the notions that you must be good at everything, or every facet of your business and life, in order to be “successful”.

  • How to get to the root of your why behind anything you are doing and putting out into the world.

05 Jul 2021Finding Heart through Restorative Justice with Marlee Liss01:15:46

On this week’s episode, we have an incredibly inspiring story for you today!  Alexandra speaks with Marlee Liss, a sensual reclamation coach, speaker, author and restorative justice advocate.  She is a queer, sparkle-loving feminist and trailblazer.  Marlee made history in the justice system when her sexual assault case became the 1st in North America to conclude with restorative justice.  Since then, she has coached hundreds of women internationally in reclaiming sensuality and embodied leadership.

Marlee has shared her voice via Forbes, Huff Post, Buzzfeed, Mel Robbins Show, and more. In addition, she is a powerful speaker and has presented/consulted for the US Military Sexual Assault Response Team, on an elite panel for the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence, Fordham School of Law and more.  Currently, her story is being made into a documentary and scripted Hollywood series, as she works on her memoir.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • What restorative justice is, its origins in the Indigenous, Jewish, and Mennonite cultures, and how it differs from the punitive justice system.
  • Marlee’s story of sexual assault and going through the process after the assault of navigating the punitive justice system while doing very deep healing work.
  • How going through the punitive justice system and the process of the lead up to a criminal trial inspired Marlee to seek out restorative justice measures instead.
  • How the experience of the restorative justice therapy process brought a human element and a heart element to a justice system that otherwise can be very dehumanizing and devoid of any presence of either.
  • The power of story-telling and how telling our stories provides a sense of validation to not only ourselves, but our communities as well.
  • Ideas on what the vision of embodied leadership looks like and how it avoids burnout, honors our feelings, takes anger and recognizes it as passion and births creation from it, all while making huge, impactful changes in our communities.
  • And more!

Please note, that we do go into the story of Marlee’s case and sexual trauma and what happened, so it’s a tender one.  Many of us have gone through these experiences, and it can bring stuff up, and it’s also really healing, so we encourage you to listen even if it feels a little edgy.  Please make sure you have some support around you and take good care.

26 Apr 2021The Sacred and the Profane of Spirituality with Alexandra Roxo00:30:17

This week, Alexandra shares with us her first solo episode!

If you’re not too familiar with Alexandra yet, she is an artist, bestselling author, speaker and teacher. She leads workshops and has been featured as a guest speaker on podcasts and TV including on ViceTV’s Slutever, Epix’s Sex / Life show and at numerous festivals and events worldwide.

Her book “F*CK LIKE A GODDESS” debuted in July 2020 with Sounds True to be #1 new release and bestseller in 3 categories on amazon for 3 weeks in a row. It was also featured in many publications as a radical guidebook for modern spirituality outside the mainstream and a practical guide to healing that includes body, mind, and spirit.

With a career traversing genres, but with a through line of exploration of the female body and the intersection of sexuality and spirituality, Alexandra has been making art, writing, and sharing her heart publicly for nearly two decades about modern spirituality, the feminine faces of the divine, embodiment as healing and practice, and the path of the expression of the soul through art and writing as liberation.

During this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why it’s important to use discernment about what teachings, art, wisdom, and influences to allow into your life in this modern, digital age.
  • How spiritual sacred space is relative to each person’s unique life experience and is not a cookie-cutter formula that fits everyone.
  • How the mystical life is vast, and includes both the sacred and the profane.
  • How to be a more nuanced spiritual practitioner and experience life more robustly, rather than just “good” vs. “bad”.

26 Jul 2021Expressing our Sexual Desires with Emily Miller00:53:38

On today’s episode, Alexandra speaks with Emily Miller, a contestant on the Netflix show, Too Hot To Handle!

What Alexandra loved about working with Emily on the show was how unashamed Emily was about her sexuality.  She didn’t seem to be afraid to speak about her sexuality in a very blunt and honest way, and that was very inspiring to witness and see presented on tv.

This episode may be a great conversation starter for you all around expressing your sexuality, your desires, and staying open-hearted and vulnerable in relationship.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • The difference between reaction in relationship - such as defensiveness or accusation - vs. staying open-hearted and vulnerable and sharing your emotions from that place.
  • How staying open-hearted and vulnerable in relationship can often feel very painful, but ultimately leads to greater intimacy between partners, friends, loved ones, etc.
  • Ideas on how laying down the foundation for high reward in life often comes by making high risk moves and actions to get there.
  • Removing shame from how we, as a society, communicate about our sexuality and sexual desires, and how we can begin to reclaim that for ourselves.
  • Ideas on what some of the fundamental differences between the masculine and feminine are in relationship, and how to reconcile that with expectations and desires you may hold for a partner.
  • The challenge of sustaining change and transformation within yourself and the work and practice that goes into embodying the change within yourself and your life.
  • And more!
12 Jul 2021Inviting Fear in for Tea with Moun D'Simone01:05:10

On today’s episode, Alexandra speaks with one of her dear dear friends, Moun D’Simone!

Moun is a Spiritual Godmother, supporting womxn to find strength and courage in their story. She works with clients and students doing deep transformational and empowerment work, through one-on-one mentorship and group programs. She also speaks and leads retreats for clients such as Maha Rose, Kripalu, Three Jewels, and more, on topics like making peace with your past, unconditional compassion, the power of practice and community, and more.

This episode is really a peek into Alexandra and Moun’s love and friendship, and how they continue to inspire each other through life’s challenges.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • The process of undoing tying our worth to our productivity and our accomplishments vs. living in the present and loving ourselves unconditionally.
  • Ideas on why traveling to somewhere like India or Nepal is such a life-changing experience for so many people and how experiencing a place that is immersed in ritual can alter our perspective of everyday life and how we experience it.
  • How we avoid looking at and holding a relationship with death in much of western culture and how that can often keep us in a place of fear of the unknown.
  • Ideas on how we can begin to become more comfortable with death and suffering, and how that process can actually help us accept the full range of our own emotions and the reality of life and death.
  • How Moun’s ability to step up and act as the main caretaker for her mother after her mother’s breast cancer diagnosis came from being able to hold the duality of the experience of life as being both full of so much beauty and so much challenge.
  • Ways to move yourself through fearful moments, and how to engage with the full spectrum range of our emotions as human beings, and integrate them and bring them into acceptance within us.
  • And so much more on healing and staying open to all that life has to offer us!

22 Nov 2023Changing Patterns, Trying Times and Deepening Connection w/ Dr. Nicole LePera01:03:58

Welcome back to DARE TO FEEL a podcast that fearlessly explores themes of intimacy, relationships, spirituality, and healing.

I am so glad that I got to chat with holistic psychologist Dr. Nicole LePera. One thing about Dr. Nicole LePera, she feels so down-to-earth and approachable, even though she's a person who is impacting millions of people right now. And to me, that is just a sign of a real, deep, true practitioner, somebody who's in their heart, available, clear, honest, and really generous with her own story, with her own experience and healing journey. So, it was such a pleasure to chat with her about her upcoming book, How To Be The Love You Seek: Break Cycles, Find Peace, and Heal Your Relationships. It has so much in common with the themes I'm exploring in DARE TO FEEL. I really hope you enjoy this conversation.

In this Episode:

  • Dr. Nicole shared about one of her most trying times in changing patterns in her family, and it brought tears to my eyes.
  • We dove into whether there is truly safety in feeling, and how to create safety in the nervous system so we can dare to feel without fear.
  • We went deep into Dr. Nicole’s personal struggles, hard lessons, and the work she continues to deepen into.

14 Mar 2022Reclaiming your Relationship with your Cycle with Alisa Vitti01:09:28

On today’s episode, Alexandra speaks with author and women’s health expert Alisa Vitti!

Alisa is a trusted integrative nutritionist, "hormone whisperer", and best-selling author of WomanCode and In The Flo (Harper Collins). As a pioneer in the women’s biohacking space, Alisa has figured out why over 40% of women are struggling with hormone issues and experiencing burnout. Women are being left out of fitness, nutrition, and medical research, leading them to use popularized trends to try to help themselves, but because those solutions aren't designed for them, they are getting sick. Alisa teaches women about their second biological rhythm - the Infradian Rhythm - that governs the brain, metabolism, immune, stress, and reproductive systems - and is just as important, if not more so, than the circadian rhythm (the process that manages sleep). To support the Infradian Rhythm, Alisa coined the term and created the concept of “cycle syncing,” a practice that involves incorporating specific micronutrient-rich foods at various points of the menstrual cycle to support the body’s natural production of hormones and its ability to purge any excess. She says estrogen dominance is the biggest culprit when it comes to PMS, so naturally eliminating the extra amount is key to healing. Along with the inclusion of specific foods at the right times, Alisa also recommends particular workouts, stress management techniques, and even business strategies, depending on the current phase of your cycle (intense cardio might be beneficial at one time of the month, but not at another, for example).

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Ideas on the birth control pill as ‘old tech’ vs. the ‘new tech’ options that are out there today to help women control and regulate their options for preventing pregnancy.
  • The difference between the circadian and infradian rhythm and how disrupting either rhythm can lead to disease and disruptions within the body.
  • How to prepare your body for pregnancy by staying rich with micronutrients and honoring your infradian rhythm, and examples on how you can do so, even starting a decade or so before trying to get pregnant.
  • Ideas and examples on discussing body types, weight, size, cycles, and hormones with your friends, children, and daughters.
  • And more!

07 Jun 2021Letting Life Master You with Alex Ebert01:01:39

In today’s episode, Alexandra speaks with Alex Ebert!

You may know Alex from the band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, or on Instagram as Bad Guru. Alex has been bringing so many incredible philosophical conversations into the space of wellness and new ageism and we are so excited to have him on the show today.

In this episode, you’ll discover:

  • Ideas and discussion on how the modern interpretation of the ‘law of attraction’ in much of the mainstream wellness industry’s teachings is centered around capitalism and has actually created the idea of no longer resonating with interconnectivity.
  • The difference between the idea of mastering life vs. letting life master you.
  • Examples of spiritual bypassing in the mainstream wellness and new age industry’s teachings, and how creating a declaration and acknowledgement of our interconnectedness in the universe can help us heal this level of bypassing.
  • Ideas on how the antidote to the mainstream’s spiritualization of selfishness lies within reintegrating death rituals and safe spaces for ourselves and our communities to confront our mortality and shadow selves, in order to bring our neurosis (behavior, beliefs) back into the light.
  • How we can sometimes invent challenges or hardships to solve, in order to continue to advance as a human being throughout our lifetime, and how that can really form us in becoming who we are and how we interact and relate to life.
  • And so much more.

19 Jul 2021Finding Healthy Love with Carly Lawrence01:05:48

This week on Holy F*ck, Alexandra speaks with Carly Lawrence from the Netflix show, Too Hot To Handle!

Carly is one of the contestants on season two of the show that Alexandra had the pleasure of leading in a few workshops and rituals throughout the season, and was very real and honest throughout their work together.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Ideas on what a healthy romantic relationship is and what healthy communication between partners looks and feels like.
  • How going through the experience of being on the show helped Carly heal through trust issues, people pleasing, speaking up and using her voice to state her desires, needs, and more.
  • Identifying our love languages in relationship, and how we can often discover what’s important for us to receive from a partner, through being triggered or experiencing conflict in relationship.
  • The power of hearing other women share about their vulnerabilities, insecurities, and healing journeys, and how that can empower us to also be honest about our own journeys and transformational work.
  • How we can find a sense of safety in others when we may be experiencing anxiety or stress, and how another human’s nervous system can help regulate ours in those moments.
  • How breathing into the heart and body can help ground us down and slow down our thoughts, especially for those of us who are fast-thinkers and may experience higher levels of anxiety or stress in everyday life.
  • And more!
29 Mar 2021Freeing Love - with Rachel Rabbit White00:59:46

For our first episode, Alexandra welcomes Rachel Rabbit White to the show! Rachel Rabbit White is a writer, ritualist, goddess worshiper, poet, and former sex worker. Her work has been featured in Vogue, Vanity Fair and a host of other incredible platforms. What Alexandra loves about Rachel is she is so radically herself—she seems like a fully self-expressed woman, and that can be hard to find in our society. She advocates for sexworker rights, for queer rights, for loving freely, and for engaging in healthy sexual relationships. Stay tuned until the end when Rachel reads a poem from her incredible book, Porn Carnival: The Paradise Edition.

During this episode, you'll learn:

  • How social norms and narratives hold us back from living our most authentic and fully-expressed lives.
  • Why relationships between women and between friends can be treasured and elevated in the same way that a romantic relationship with an established partner can.
  • How psychedelics can free you from the societal constructs that you normally live your life by, and empower you to nurture your truth without fear.
  • How sexual fluidity and personal growth has helped her discover more about her own sexual self.
  • Much, much more.

01 May 2023The Kitchen Healer with Jules Blaine Davis01:12:25

In this conversation, you’ll discover:

  • Jules’ current inquiry around feeling and experiencing joy, and how it is deep lineage work to receive and hold sustained joy.
  • Questions to reflect on to see where we may be out of alignment with our values, and inquiries around how we can begin to re-write our stories around aligning with our values.
