02 May 2022 | From The Archives: Ben Barnes, Actor, Musician | 00:19:41
The interview, originally conducted in October of 2021, is the most popular to date! Official YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/BenBarnesMusic Bandwear Store: https://shop.bandwear.com/benbarnes Spotify “Influences” playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0KZCER7ycCrujdIhJpIcKl?si=ESlHS6doQMi9zlaVTxKdlg&dl_branch=1&nd=1 Ben Barnes is known to many for portraying fantasy heroes and comic-book villains, characters from history and classic novels and the occasional romantic street busker or wannabe rock-star. His own fantasies, stories and dreams have until now been eclipsed by these roles. With Songs For You, Barnes is baring his soul through his music for the first time; hopeful, joyful, passionate, nostalgic, vulnerable and loving. The lyrics to most of the songs, he explains, came from “poetry written for a loved one or just for myself, a long-forgotten phrase I jotted down in a notebook years ago, inspired by a photograph, a moment, a quotation, or in the case of one song, a story I read about a female pirate!” After years of being directed, written for and edited in movies, this is his moment to shine the light on the five songs on Songs For You, lovingly crafted at his piano at home and presented unedited and straight from the heart. Barnes shared, “Songs For You comes from one of my favorite records, ‘A Song For You’ by Leon Russell (but the Donny Hathaway version, of course), from wanting the songs to speak intimately to anyone who listens to them, and because if a song is written for you, you know who you are.” Ben Barnes has starred in films, TV shows and theater productions spanning the last 20 years: Movies have included, Visit www.creativepeacemeal.com to leave a review, fan voicemail, and more!

16 May 2022 | From The Archives: Chris Spear, Chef and Podcaster | 00:40:58
Another fave episode originally airing in July of 2021. Chris continues to thrive in his business PERFECT LITTLE BITES, and his podcast, CHEFS WITHOUT RESTAURANTS. Check out the links for more! Chris dreamed of bringing an upscale dining experience directly into peoples' homes, and he started his personal chef business on the side in 2010. Tired of the corporate foodservice grind, he left his job and took his business full-time in 2016. Specializing in contemporary American cuisine with global influences, Perfect Little Bites services the metro Washington D.C. and Baltimore areas, as well as parts of West Virginia, Southern Pennsylvania, and Northern Virginia. Wanting to build a community to help support other food entrepreneurs, Chris started the Chefs Without Restaurants community. Its focus would be on sharing gig opportunities and knowledge, as well as doing collaborative pop-up events. This led to the launch of the Chefs Without Restaurants podcast in late 2019, and the show features guests working in aspects of foodservice such as catering, research & development, contract foodservice, and the food truck industry. Now Chris splits his time between cooking unique dishes for his guests, such as scrapple dip, and engaging with the culinary community he built. He has written editorials for StarChefs, and some of his recipes can be found on the Garden & Gun and Imbibe websites. You can also find an illustration of his chest tattoo in the book Knives & Ink, along with his recipe for smoked gouda and hot pepper pimento cheese. Chris is also a husband, and father of twins. When he's not cooking or talking about food, you'll probably find him taking photos, wandering an art gallery, or rocking out at one of DC's concert venues. 13 Jun 2022 | Emile Pandolfi, Pianist | 00:30:32
Today's show features pianist, Emile Pandolfi. He delighted me with stories from working at a comedy club in California, to dispensing wisdom from his lengthy career, to fave books, and more. Although the majority of his performance repertoire is lush, intricate arrangements of Broadway and pop standards, his influences are, in fact, more classical than pop. It is this subjective layering of classical style, which Emile infuses into the broad palette of his performance selections, that continues to resonate with audiences everywhere. His most recent project is the book Play It Like You Mean It: Supercharge Your Playing and Let Your Piano Work for You. A light-hearted and humorous guide for pianists from amateur to professional, Play It Like You Mean It shares Emile’s holistic philosophy harmonizing method and mindset to help pianists communicate through every chord and resonate more passionately with listeners, while bringing more joy to the daily practice of music. He also maintains an active global travel schedule, hosting a small group of fans on international luxury tours each year. Each trip includes intimate performances in concert halls and historic venues. To learn more about Emile Pandofi, or to check out his playlists and book, click here. 06 Mar 2023 | Patrick DaSalvo and Garnet Grimm of Savoy Brown | 00:38:41
It was a pleasure to interview the last remaining members of the band, Savoy Brown, bassist Patrick DaSalvo and drummer Garnet Grimm. The History of Savoy Brown Defining the British Blues Boom music scene in London in the mid ‘60’s The British R ‘n‘ B boom of the early 1960’s led directly to the British Blues Explosion in 1968. The London R n B boom led by, for example, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Yardbirds, The Pretty Things and to some extent the Beatles quickly moved into mainstream pop and left a vacuum in the London clubs. This vacuum, in London, was filled in the mid 60’s by John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers featuring Eric Clapton and Savoy Brown’s Blues Band featuring Kim Simmonds. Both these bands became headliners at major London clubs such as The Marquee establishing a “blues night” amongst the mainstream soul and popular music in the charts at that time. As headlining pioneers of the new blues movement Savoy Brown gave a platform to emerging bands in other areas of the U.K. Ten Years After and Jethro Tull both were opening acts to Savoy Brown on blues night at the Marquee. Chicken Shack from Birmingham also came to London and along with the early Fleetwood Mac established themselves on the scene. John Mayall, Savoy Brown, Fleetwood Mac, Jethro Tull, Chicken Shack and Ten Years After became the “big six” blues bands at that time. In fact a 45 single was released by The Liverpool Scene called “I’ve Got These Fleetwood Mac Chicken Shack John Mayall Can’t Fail Blues” and the second chorus has Savoy Brown and Jethro Tull to round off the full song story. Hits soon followed for these bands (Savoy Brown cracking the USA in 1969) and the blues movement quickly gave way to the heavy rock of Black Sabbath, themselves a blues band when they started. The British Blues Boom was a phenomena never to be repeated again and remains one of the foremost U.K. music movements of all time. . 04 Dec 2023 | Buddy Whittington, Guitarist with Texas Scratch discusses long-awaited new album, life lessons, inspirations, and more | 00:27:28
Texas Scratch is made up of three born-and-bred Texas guitarists – Jim Suhler from Dallas, Buddy Whittington from Fort Worth and Vince Converse from Houston. This mighty threesome of big dog guitar slingers takes no prisoners when it comes to red-hot guitar performances, both live and in-studio. This trio of six-string guitar beasts are accompanied on the album by drummer Jeff Simon and bassist Nathaniel Peterson, both fine musicians in their own right. The band’s name derives from the term Texas scratch, which is a style of guitar picking (also known as the Carter Scratch) said to have originated by Mother Maybelle Carter back in 1927. Their combined efforts have resulted in a debut album consisting of – obviously - fiery, passionate guitar licks everywhere you turn, soaked in the blues and kicked in the ass by the blues-rock they all love to play. 18 Dec 2023 | Chris James of The Burrito Brothers talks about their new album (hint, it's holiday themed!), the band's legacy, and more. | 00:57:25
The band’s first two albums, The Gilded Palace of Sin (which Rolling Stone listed at number 192 on its list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time) and Burrito Deluxe, remain highly influential, acclaimed works which helped put country-rock on the map. Because Parsons and Keith Richards were good friends, Burrito Deluxe contains the first issued version of the Mick Jagger/Keith Richards-written song "Wild Horses," released almost a year before the The Rolling Stones own take on it appeared on Sticky Fingers. The band has churned through countless members over the years (including many ex-members who have attained success over the years on their own in big-name bands) but has continued to keep the Burritos name and legacy alive by touring and recording under various Burritos-styled names over the decades. These days, the band, now based in Nashville, features Chris P. James (who’s been involved with the band since 2009), guitarist Steve Allen, Tony Paoletta on pedal steel and drummer Peter Young…all extremely talented musicians who love being involved with the band’s legacy and creating new music to keep that legacy alive. The current lineup has continued for over a decade to carry the Burrito Brothers torch via the Christmas release, which features the band’s trademark tight ensemble playing, beautiful harmonies, excellent songwriting, and the ability to turn other artist’s songs into their own. 14 Oct 2024 | Chris Slade, legendary rock drummer recounts career highlights, and new projects | 00:36:14
Chris Slade’s music career reads like a Who’s Who list of rock ‘n’ roll. It’s truly amazing how many iconic bands and artists he has performed with over the decades. His musical journey can be traced back to 1963. Chris came from the same village in Wales as fellow Welshman Tom Jones and, as a 17-year-old lad, was hired by Jones to play drums in the singer’s backing band, The Squires, for seven years. It was the beginning of an incredible career that is still going strong today. He was the founding member of Mandred Man, and his illustrious resume includes working with Asia, AC/DC, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, and many others. In 2012, Slade launched the band, The Chris Slade Timeline, to mark, at that time, 50 years as a professional rock drummer. The band performs music from all aspects of his lengthy career and has appeared at major festivals including Hellfest, 24 Hours of Le Mans, Harley Davidson Aquitaine, and Saint Tropez and is the only rock band to play the Moscow Olympic Stadium for the Kremlin Cup tennis tournament. The current lineup of The Chris Slade Timeline features Paul “Bun” Davis on lead vocals, bassist Stevie Gee, guitarist James Cornford, Mike Clarke on keys and guitar and, of course the inimitable Mr. Slade on drums. This core lineup recorded Timescape and continues to tour. https://www.facebook.com/ChrisSladeACDC Visit the Self-Care Institute at https://www.selfcareinstitute.com/ Visit www.creativepeacemeal.com to leave a review, fan voicemail, and more!

Electric Violinist GINNY LUKE’s highly anticipated and long-awaited debut solo vocal album, Devil at My Heels, is due out November 1 on KZZ Music/Blue Élan Records. The album combines melody, muscle, and message into an irresistible and immaculately executed 12 tracks bristling with anthemic hooks, soaring singing, and Luke’s signature approach to violin as a scintillating rock instrument. It’s boldly evidenced in the title track featuring Orianthi, which was released earlier this year as the first single and video which has already racked up over 34,000 views and can be seen on Luke’s official YouTube page. The album’s second single, “Yeah Yeah Yeah,” was recently released on all digital outlets, including her official YouTube page. “It’s badass melodic rock with scorching violin,” LUKE enthused. “And a declaration of my autonomy and the journey of understanding my human experience.” Visit www.creativepeacemeal.com to leave a review, fan voicemail, and more! |
