Born in Côte d’Ivoire to parents from Burkina Faso, Dr. Boukary Sawadogo moved to the United States in 2006 to pursue graduate studies, earning a master’s degree and a doctorate. He has lived and worked to different parts of the USA, including the states of Iowa, Louisiana, Vermont, Massachusetts, and now New York. As an African cinemas scholar and media professional, Dr Boukary Sawadogo’s multifaceted work seeks to give voice and presence work to film/media productions that developed outside of hegemonic paradigms of Hollywood cinema model. Dr. Sawadogo has published extensively on African cinemas with four single-authored books on the subject. Also, he is the founding director of the Harlem African Animation Festival Beyond film and media industries, Dr. Boukary Sawadogo's work is widening in scope and depth to include a study of the encounters and exchanges between Africa and the diaspora. In this respect, he has authored most recently the book “Africans in Harlem: An Untold New York Story” (Fordham University Press, 2022). Dr. Kelechi Ibe-Lamberts is a Clinical Associate Professor in Community Health at the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Public Health. He teaches and researches health behaviors, health disparities and health outcomes among culturally diverse populations. His research work specifically involves matters related to refugee/immigrant health and the development of transnational ties among Black immigrants. He identifies as a 1.5 generation Transnational Nigerian American. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 8, where he grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He received his undergraduate and doctorate degrees in Community Health from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He continued his postdoctoral training at the University of Florida until 2018. Additionally he serves as the Chair for the APHA Caucus on Refugee and Immigrant Health and also hosts a podcast titled “My Black is Transnational”. Lyson Zulu, born in Kalingalinga, developed a passion for football at a young age when his dad took him to his first match. His love for the game grew even stronger as he became part of the team that represented Zambia in prestigious tournaments like the Gothia Cup in Sweden and the Norway Cup in Norway, both in 2002 and 2003. Ami Thakkar is a lawyer by trade, a freelance writer by trial, a podcaster by passion and a DJ when asked. After graduating as a Longhorn, she started off my career as an analyst at Enron. While applying to graduate schools, she worked on movie sets in Texas and then moved to Bombay to work in radio and media. A few years later, she graduated with a J.D. from DePaul University School of Law in Chicago and began her law career in New York City. Since then, She moved back to India, lived in Dubai, Dallas, Bentonville, CT, and currently back in Dallas. Between all the moves, she has worked as a writer for magazines (such as Vogue India, CN Traveler, OK! Ms. Kemi Seriki is a Nigerian immigrant from Yoruba ethnic diversity. As a typical story of immigrants in America, Ms. Seriki migrated to the United States for a better life in the early 1980s. Since moving to the United States, she completed her master’s degree and is a proud mother of two adult children. She is a blogger, and many issues she writes on focus on the life of African immigrants. In 2017, Ms. Seriki launched Pánsá Pánsá Forum to start a conversation about the first and second generations of African immigrant children growing up in American society. As many may know, the African community is often divided along the line of countries of origin, religion, and ethnic background. The forum's vision is to include African children from various ethnic backgrounds in the conversation. The purpose of the discussion is to create an open platform for the children to express their challenges as they try to balance between two worlds of having an American identity and maintaining their African heritage. In March of 2021, Ms. Seriki launched Pánsá Pánsá Podcast to move the discussion global platform to attract more diverse participants to the dialogue, and the podcast is in its fourth season. The conversation on the podcast continues to focus on the lives of African immigrants and their assimilation into Western society as they raise younger generations in a country that is quite different from their own. Ms. Seriki believes that education does not end after graduation and that one needs continuous engagement in self-education. As an avid reader of various interests, she enjoys reading scholarly publications on numerous discussions, including mental health, race relation in America, and African and African American history. She also participates in various conferences in the community on race in America and white privilege, social justice, gender inequality, and African forum focusing on African issues. When she is not busy working on her project, she enjoys reading, listening to music, writing, engaging in conversation on social and political issues, and, most importantly, storytelling to the audience, the young and elders of the community.

She also directly works with the stateless and immigrant community through the nonprofit, SAD. Martine founded SAD Foundation after her seven year battle with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), resulting in her U.S. citizenship. SAD aims to provide practical tools and aid that stateless persons and undocumented immigrants can use to navigate between lawyers and the courts more effectively.
