The question of what happens when we die has been around for ages. In this episode Joe explores a prior interview with his close friend Franco DeNicola about his near death and full death experience as we explore what may happen when we die.

As with any conversation that is 'out there' or 'controversial', or that explores something in the realm of mystery or wonder, can we be curious while exploring, and pay attention to the various objections that arise while we listen? If something butts up against our belief systems, what happens in our mind and body?

This week I bring the concept of sensemaking to the Twitter Files. We'll explore some thoughts on separating the signal from the noise and critique a discussion around 'trusting' Elon Musk. 

It has been rather fascinating watching elements of indie media interpret the Twitter Files  and the journalists who have brought them forward, all while the mainstream media virtually blacks out the story.

Back in 2013 there was a sharp rise in the popularity of independent media. An industry once dominated entirely by mainstream voices was now changing at a rapid pace to include an alternative perspective.

There were a handful of brands fuelling what eventually became the end of mainstream media dominance. Eventually, those brands were met with a heavy hand from Big Tech & governments for overthrowing the monopoly on narrative control. 

Today we'll talk to Jason Bassler, the founder of The Free Thought Project, one of the brands that helped pave the way for the rise of independent media.

Joe and Arjun Walia chat about using discernment with Elon Musk, Twitter, and his neuralink project. They also discuss The Great Reset and discerning presented solutions on that subject as they related to solutions coming from others trying to make society better. Of course, they dive into a couple big topics around COVID as well.

Joe is joined by nervous system and trauma expert Irene Lyon to talk about wellness, nervous system health, ayahuasca and perhaps the missing ingredient to wellness.

Unrest is taking place in Brazil following an election. Claims of election fraud once again hit the airwaves as societies polarize in their views to some extent. We also talk the Freedom Convoy, how we might or might not engage in the existing political process and what our future could look like.

The Great Reset (TGR) is touching on a felt intuition many people share: our systems are in deep need of an overhaul. The question is: shouldn't we all have a say over the direction we head?

Within this conversation of a new society is the advancement of technology and how it is re-shaping what's possible. TGR is presenting somewhat of a transhumanistic future. And in this sense people are becoming afraid of technology and where it could lead. But at the same time, technology being embraced in our future seems a necessity to take care of repetitive tasks and give us more time to do what we love. Will our fear of tech hold us back? Do we know how to resist the Great Reset - Or only insult its creators?

We are in a time where complex systems are breaking down without our society, and yet we are looking at these problems with a overly simplistic and reductionist lens that is causing us to fail to recognize what the problems we face actually are. 

Engaging the spirit of creating a set of solutions and societal design that is advantageous for all would be key. To do this it’s important we become aware of our bias, ideologies and adopt a more complex problem solving frame as the nature of our systems, humans and nature is all complex. 

The word trauma is a tough one. (Perhaps we can also consider this nervous system health.) Its meaning can be very different depending on who you talk to, and given the content of what we're going to talk about in today's episode, it's important we define it. This I do in the early minutes of the episode.

In the context I lay out, trauma is a fact of all of our lives. This statement is important to reflect on because our understanding of trauma has updated dramatically over the last 30 years or so, and when looking at our modern world it's hard not to see that trauma will creep in. Yet this knowledge has not made it very far into mainstream medicine nor public consciousness just yet. The good news is, a swell is growing.

What exactly is trauma? What role does trauma play in our lives? How does it affect our relationships, health and the lens through which we see our world? We explore these questions as well as the primary antidotes to shifting our physiology to integrate and process trauma effectively, as well as why this is a key foundational factor to creating a better world.

Is social media re-shaping our brains? Is it gaming us into short attention spans and an inability to think in complexity? The research suggests this is certainly happening. It also suggests it's making us more angry and disconnected from one another.

The good news is there are ways to use social media as a tool without letting it hijack your mind and being.

We seem to be in a constant information war these days. And with that, there appears to be a war on sensemaking. What is sensemaking? Simply, our ability to accurately perceive what is taking place and make meaningful decisions based on what we learn.

It seems now that it is like we are in a dark and chaotic cave, with nothing more than a single match to light our path through a noisy and polluted information landscape. "What is true? How can we even know anymore?" are questions so many of us grapple with.

It's time to get a high powered flashlight! In this episode we'll explore what sensemaking, the conversation of fake news, the rise of censorship and perhaps some ideas on how we can improve this important skill both individually and collectively.

One of the simplest ways to think about the meaning crisis is to ask whether humanity is going through a moment where our experience of life feels increasingly less relevant and meaningful. Do we feel withdrawn from our world? A sense of disconnection from it and others? Perhaps this is at the root of our mental health crisis' as John Vervaeke suggests. Perhaps there are other biological factors like nervous system dysregulation at play here as well. Regardless, are we experiencing a collective felt sense of meaninglessness?

This is playing out in everything from our relationships to our societal structures. Things are up for re-questioning and re-examination, and while this can be an uncomfortable and awkward place, it can also be a great opportunity.

About Daniel Pinchbeck

Daniel Pinchbeck is an American author, philosopher, and cultural critic known for his work on consciousness, psychedelics, and societal transformation. His books, including Breaking Open the Head, 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl, How Soon Is Now, and When Plants Dream, explore shamanism, prophecy, ecological crises, and the impact of psychedelics on culture.

Beyond writing, Pinchbeck has been deeply involved in projects aimed at fostering regenerative solutions for global challenges. He founded the think tank the Elevator and launched Liminal News, a platform for exploring topics ranging from ecology and politics to spirituality and technology.
