19 Feb 2019Episode 79: The Office Christmas Special01:07:34

The office Christmas party is such a cliche at this point that every workplace comedy inevitably has to make that episode. I mean, there's even a whole movie built around the idea. (We reviewed it once; it's terrible.)

This week, the guys take a look at the Christmas special from the original UK version of The Office. Is David Brent a sympathetic figure? How easy is it to separate the Brent persona from Ricky Gervais himself? Does this special undermine the tone of the rest of the series? These are the questions we wrestle with in this episode. Come join us!

24 Aug 2021Episode 119: 12 Christmas Wishes For My Dog01:09:32

Welcome, dear listeners, to the Dog Days of Summer! The season is winding down, but it's hotter than ever out there, so what better time to stay indoors with a cool holiday treat featuring some cute little puppers? Well there's a problem...

This week's film, 12 Christmas Wishes for My Dog, was sold to us as exactly the kind of holiday/dog shenanigans we usually watch this time of year. Instead, this film features dogs for roughly sixty seconds before ditching them for a story even the Hallmark Channel would call ridiculous.

Also in this episode: the boys bag on J5 for drinking trash, the movie completely destroys Bradford's ability to do basic math, and we make more Butterfly Effect and Matrix references than any one Christmas podcast should make in an episode.

11 Apr 2016Episode 28: The Night Before01:07:53

Last episode we called our shot and said we'd discuss The Night Before, and this week we finally make good on our promise. Three best friends find themselves growing older and growing apart while embarking on one last holiday bar crawl. Secrets are revealed, grievances are aired, and allllllll the drugs are taken. Believe it or not, though, this one wound up hitting us all right in the feels. That's how the kids say it, right? The feels?

25 Sep 2024Episode 161: Rare Exports00:55:24

Oh, you thought we weren't gonna cover Rare Exports? Think again, buddy. Home for the Horrordays continues as Joe and Bradford tackle the granddaddy of Finnish holiday horror. The scary folklore version of Santa Claus descends upon a farming community, killing caribou and kidnapping children, and it's up to young Pietari and his dad to find a way to save Christmas.

Also in this episode, we taste test Coca-Cola flavored Oreos AND Oreo-flavored Coca-Cola in an effort to keep up with the gross gimmick food trends. Nothing but the best audio content for our lovely listeners!

27 Nov 2020Episode 108: The Last Boy Scout01:11:47

Welcome to our fourth annual Shane Black Friday, celebrating the works of writer/director Shane Black! On this year's edition, our pal Libby Cudmore returns to help us figure out why the hell we decided to watch the 1991 Bruce Willis/Damon Wayans actionfest The Last Boy Scout.

Buckle up, because this episode is absolute chaos. The Last Boy Scout has almost nothing to do with Christmas. We discuss the inclusion of "Satan Claus", and whether or not "family" is enough of a case to call this thing Christmasy. We also inflict some truly gross holiday foods upon ourselves, so hopefully the Christmas spirit is alive and well in one of us at the end of this ordeal.

21 Aug 2018Episode 69: The Sure Thing (w/ Alonso Duralde)00:50:45

We're wrapping up Travel Month this week with a cross-country road trip to California! Film critic Alonso Duralde joins us to discuss the 1985 teen sex comedy The Sure Thing, starring John Cusack and Daphne Zuniga! Duralde is the author of Have Yourself a Movie Little Christmas, a compendium of holiday cinema goodness, so we trust him when he says Rob Reiner's sophomore feature is definitely a Christmas movie.

18 Sep 2018Stocking Stuffer #13: Doug's Secret Christmas00:27:54

Hurricane Florence scuttled our regular recording plans, but never fear! Stocking Stuffers are here!

On this episode, Joe & Bradford discuss "Doug's Secret Christmas", the only episode of Disney's Doug to air in prime time! The guys are forced to look on as Doug has The Talk with his dad, discover how Doug is somehow more progressive than Ed, Edd & Eddy, and Joe comes to the realization that he's been celebrating Christmas of 2015 for the past four years.

Stuff gets real in this episode, y'all...

Arnold Schwarzenegger chases Sinbad around Minneapolis for the last Turbo Man toy in the city. Meanwhile, the gang reminisce about some of the hottest must-have toys of yesteryear, as well as how this movie is ground zero for our modern consumerist hellscape!

04 Oct 2022Episode 135: Night of the Comet01:01:57

Grab your pumpkins and pour your ciders, kids, because the most wonderful time of the year is finally upon us: HOME FOR THE HORRORDAYS!

Home For The Horrordays is our annual tradition of watching Christmas-themed horror flicks. There are more of them than you'd imagine, and this year we've picked some real oddballs! On this episode, we dig into the 1984 cult classic Night of the Comet!

It's 11 days until Christmas and a passing comet has vaporized most of Los Angeles. Survivors Regina and Sam find themselves besieged by mutant stockboys, nefarious scientists, and zombified cops. Will they escape with their lives? Can they find a way to save Christmas? There's only one way to find out...

17 Jul 2018Episode 67: A Wish For Wings That Work00:57:53

Happy July, gang! The only thing that can save us from the oppressive summer heat is that frosty air way up in the jet stream. But as we all know, penguins can’t fly, and neither can your favorite holiday podcasters. This week Joe and Bradford tackle the 1991 Opus & Bill Christmas special A Wish For Wings That Work

And to help us discuss this holiday oddity, we’ve enlisted comic strip connoisseur and host of the Andy Griffith Show podcast Breaking Mayberry, Martin Schneider!

31 Dec 2018Episode 76: Cobra01:17:27

New Year's Eve is St. Sylvester's Day, which is all the excuse we need to watch another Sylvester Stallone movie here on the podcast! This week, Joe & J5 kick back, enjoy some Christmas Tree flavored crisps, and examine the whole "Is Die Hard a Christmas movie" debate through the lens of Stallone's 1986 action vehicle Cobra

Why Cobra, you ask? Because it just happens to take place around the holidays, and is exactly the movie people are thinking of when they say Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie. Join us as we dig into what separates these two films, as well as how strange and oh-so-very 80s Cobra is in its own right.

18 Jul 2023Episode 143: A Claymation Christmas Celebration (w/ Gerry D)00:45:51

This one's been a long time coming. On this episode we discuss a cult classic among holiday specials: Will Vinton's 1987 Claymation Christmas Celebration! And to help us break it all down is special guest Gerry Davila, host of the Totally Rad Christmas podcast!

Claymation Christmas has a certain reputation in the pantheon of holiday specials. You either love it for its handcrafted stop-motion and off kilter sense of humor, or you hate it for being a half hour barrage of dad jokes. (At least, that's how my own parents think of it.) Either way, if you lived through the 80s, chances are Claymation Christmas has a special place in your heart. So grab a frosty beverage and let's get a-wassailin'!

25 Dec 2022Episode 138: A Christmas Story Christmas01:25:01

Merry Christmas, Creepazoids!

This Christmas Day we bring you an episode all about A Christmas Story Christmas! Yet another attempt at an ‘official’ sequel to Bob Clark’s holiday classic, this one finds Peter Billingsley returning as a middle-aged Ralphie, now tasked with giving his family the fabled Perfect Christmas.

Is this a brazen attempt to cash in on our nostalgia? Or is it a genuine, warm-hearted plea to…er…cash in on our nostalgia? You may be surprised to hear where we land on this one! We'll dig into the original Jean Shepard stories, the nostalgia of assorted casseroles, and a whole lot more!

26 Mar 2019Episode 81: Anna and the Apocalypse01:10:45

Happy Redboxing Day, everybody!

Last year's holiday hits are finally available to rent, so this week we're digging into one Joe has been looking forward to for quite some time: the Scottish high school zombie musical Anna and the Apocalypse! The trailers describe it as "Shaun of the Dead meets La La Land" and you would be surprised to find out which half of that equation fares better. Oh, and also there's a bunch of Christmas stuff in the movie too for some reason.

Anywho, come join Joe & Bradford as we break down which aspects of this film work, which ones don't, and why Search Engine Optimization is such an important factor now in the holiday film industrial complex. Fun!

06 Dec 2023Episode 149: The Holdovers01:03:15

On this episode we discuss Alexander Payne's The Holdovers, a brand new Christmas film about the people left behind while everyone else is off on their own holiday adventures. And to help us break it all down, we welcome back Johnny-5, The Human Robot!

The Holdovers is all about folks dealing with the loneliness of the holiday season however they can: Drinking, watching game shows, wandering around at night, crashing Christmas parties. Y'know, general introvert behavior. But there's so much more to it than that. It's really something special.

We'll dig into all that, plus the McRib being back, reminisce about our own holdover Christmases, and more! (Also, blanket spoiler warning here. We discuss it all, and recommend you see this one first. But you can do what you want, I'm not your dad.)

15 Dec 2015Episode 22: Independence Day01:18:01

It's December, which means it's time to take a break from Christmas movies. Instead, we're celebrating July at Christmas, and what better expression of July than Roland Emmerich's 1996 action epic Independence Day! Also, fun fact: We recorded this episode literally the day before the trailer for the sequel dropped. Fortuitous timing, but that means we couldn't break it down in all sorts of stupid ways. C'est la vie.

09 May 2017Episode 48: White Christmas01:03:43

On this week's episode, the Creeps tackle one of the holidays' most ubiquitous movies, the Bing Crosby/Danny Kaye musical White Christmas. Along the way, we also go down rabbit holes related to Power Rangers, Jonathan's knowledge of America's train system, and the wackadoo madness Brad dreams about when he eats smoked salmon. And somewhere in all that, we actually discuss this 1954 classic. All in a day's work around these parts!

07 Oct 2020Episode 105: Santa's Slay01:00:52

Welcome to October, the season of falling leaves, pumpkin spiced everything and also a little thing called HOME FOR THE HORRORDAYS!

We're kicking things off with Santa's Slay! This film is notorious for it's opening scene, in which a whole host of C-list celebrities get brutally murdered. The rest of Santa's Slay follows Bill Goldberg's Santa as he terrorizes a small town and the two wayward teens tasked with ending his reign of terror once and for all. Or at least until midnight on Christmas Day. It's completely arbitrary and none of the rules actually matter, but as we discover, the film is 100% aware of this.

Merry Christmas, friends! This week we're taking a break from watching and yelling about holiday movies so that we can kick up our feet, have a few drinks, and play some holiday games. What holiday games, you might ask? Well, let's just say we surprised ol' Bradford with a game some might consider a crime against humanity...

03 Jul 2024Episode 158: Jaws01:06:58

It's the 4th of July on this podcast, which means we're roughly halfway to Christmas! So what better way to celebrate than with the most 4th of July movie of them all: Jaws!

You know Jaws. It's the granddaddy of all killer shark movies. It's Steven Spielberg's first breakout hit. It's the movie that made summer the season of blockbuster movies. And more than just being historically important, Jaws is just an all-around damn good movie.

Crack open a cold Narragansett and join us as we break down everything that makes this movie tick, why it's still revered as a classic, and whether or not news of an exploding whale influenced the film's ending!

27 Aug 2024Episode 159: Icetastrophe00:51:57

After a long summer off, we're back to ring in the most wonderful time of the year: Home for the Horrordays!

On this episode we discuss the SyFy Channel original movie Icetastrophe, AKA Christmas Icetastrophe, AKA A Christmas Tale. No matter what you call it, this is a silly Day After Tomorrow knockoff in which a meteor crash lands in a small Washington town and flash freezes everything in sight. It's up to scientist Alex and townie Charlie Ratchet to save the town, while entrepreneur Crooge struggles to stay alive long enough to save his kids. Ratchet? Crooge? Yeah... It's one of those. The Christmas Carol connection is tenuous at best.

22 May 2018Stocking Stuffer #11: Rugrats - "The Santa Experience"00:35:03

Remember how we said all Stocking Stuffers from now on would be Somewhat Safe For Work? Weellllllll, about that...

Look, we recorded this episode two days before LAST Christmas and none of us were in our right minds. That's why we started talking about "The Santa Experience", from the second season of Rugrats, and wound up talking entirely too much about Disney's revival of Doug and whether or not it featured an episode about Sex Ed.

HEY! We've put a couple of our older episodes on YouTube! Check em out and share the link around!

25 Jun 2019Episode 85: Jaws The Revenge01:00:24

It's six months til Christmas, the 4th of July is right around the corner, so what better time to discuss a Jaws movie?! Jaws: The Revenge, to be specific, the movie that IMDb's users have declared the 27th worst movie ever made. It's also the one Jaws movie that actually takes place around the holidays, so like it or not, here we come!

Also in this episode, the guys take a stab at writing their own Jaws sequel, Joe and Bradford actually learn something about foreign culture from this movie, and a Winnie The Pooh meme short circuits J-5's brain...

15 Nov 2022Episode 137: Santa Jaws00:59:41

Home for the Horrordays enters extra innings this week as we finally tackle a little film called SANTA JAWS!

You see, it's Jaws, but the shark wears a fun little Santa hat. Not surprisingly, this comes from the Syfy Channel stable of original movies, but somewhat surprisingly, this actually looks and feels like a real movie. Granted, that's not much to hang our hats on, but we'll take what we can get!

Come join us as we discuss gross Mountain Dew flavors, how Santa Jaws stacks up to Regular Jaws, the shenanigans going on over at Twitter, and more!

28 Jun 2022Episode 132: Turbulence01:05:09

We're back with more holiday action hijinks! This week, in honor of the recently departed Ray Liotta, we take a look at his 1997 airplane thriller Turbulence!

It's Christmas Eve and the feds need to escort a number of criminals, including the Lonely Hearts Strangler, from New York to Los Angeles. When all hell breaks loose and every officer and pilot onboard have been killed, it's up to flight attendant Lauren Holly to fend off the killer and safely land the plane.

Turbulence is more of a Christmas movie that we honestly expected. Join us as we examine all of its holiday trappings, as well as how it relates to It's A Wonderful Life, the other 1997 "criminals take over a plane" movie Con Air, basic cable programming of yesteryear, and more!

29 Nov 2019Episode 93: The Long Kiss Goodnight01:01:31

Another Thanksgiving has come and gone, and that can only mean one thing... It's time for our third annual Shane Black Friday!

Libby Cudmore joins us to help navigate all the bizarre twists and turns of Renny Harlin's 1996 action yarn The Long Kiss Goodnight. National treasure Geena Davis plays a recovering amnesiac who suddenly, violently discovers her former life as a trained assassin, and Samuel L. Jackson plays the low-rent detective helping her get to the bottom of things. There are explosions and gunfights and it's all very silly.

Also it's a Christmas movie. Shane Black wrote this, so of course it's a Christmas movie!

25 Dec 2021Episode 126: Home Alone 1990 vs 202101:27:55

Merry Christmas to one and all! We don't usually pit two films against one another, but since it is Christmas we thought we'd give you fine listeners a little holiday treat.

Home Alone is one of our generation's unassailable holiday classics. We've covered a number of its sequels on the show before, but tonight we're finally digging into the 1990 original. But because one Home Alone simply isn't enough, we're also doing a deep dive into the newest entry in the series, Home Sweet Home Alone, just released on Disney+.

What makes the original a modern classic while the remake struggles to even find its footing? How many of the traps would a human being reasonably fall for? What on earth do you even use a male-to-male extension cord for, anyway? Join us as we answer these questions and a whole lot more!

Last year, in the middle of COVID lockdown, Joe and Bradford got good and drunk one night and recorded three episodes of a brand new podcast all about The Adventures of Pete & Pete. What you're about to hear is the first episode, in which we discuss Season 1, Episode 1: "King of the Road".

Topics of discussion include: Our own adventures at the Hoover Dam, our first encounters with the internet, the storied career of Toby Huss, Wellsville and the End of History, and whether or not we would return to the 90s if given the opportunity.

27 Oct 2021Episode 122: The Conjuring 201:10:30

We conclude Home For The Horrordays with James Wan's The Conjuring 2! Set against the chilly backdrop of Christmas, Conjuring 2 is based on the Enfield Poltergeist, a true haunting case from the late 1970s in which a ghost supposedly haunted a single mother and her four children living in the north of London.

And joining us this week is our old pal Dr. Nick! Last heard on our Black Christmas episode, Nick returns to help us break down all the spooks, scares and general quackery going on here.

Also this week, we taste test some disgusting holiday candy, Johnny-5 slams a Four Loko and, well... You can guess where things go from there...

AND WE'RE BACK! Join us as we kick off SEASON FIVE of Christmas Creeps with our new January tradition: Netflix originals! Last year we got things started with the drunken sasquatch escapades of Pottersville. This year, we hitch a ride on Santa's sleigh to discuss The Christmas Chronicles, starring Kurt Russell as the world's coolest Santa/stepdad/rockstar/car thief.

Also in this episode we get into found footage movies, our favorite cinematic Santas, and how this is the Chris Columbus movie to end all Chris Columbus movies.

19 Dec 2017Stocking Stuffer #8: King of the Hill - "Hillennium"00:36:27

On this edition of Stocking Stuffers, Joe & Bradford soldier onward through the Christmas episodes of King of the Hill with season 4's "Hillennium". When Hank gets spooked by the prospect of the Y2K bug, he panics by buying his family Y2K-compliant gifts like toilet paper and a grandfather clock. Sure, this is more of a New Year's episode, but it features Christmas prominently and also gives us an excuse to discuss the Y2K phenomenon, as well as New Year's in general.

30 Apr 2019Episode 83: Bah Humduck! A Looney Tunes Thing01:01:00

Join us this week as we discuss the direct-to-video Looney Tunes film Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas. In this shameless rehash of "A Christmas Carol", Daffy Duck is an evil department store owner visited by three spirits to teach him the True Meaning of Christmas! Or at least, that's what the last ten minutes is about. The rest is your usual Looney Tunes shenanigans executed on a shoestring budget.

Also in this episode, J-5 remembers the plot of "A Christmas Carol" through cultural osmosis, Bradford narcs on his neighbors, and we discover the one thing this cartoon has in common with Silent Night Deadly Night

04 Aug 2020Episode 101: Puppy Star Christmas01:21:31

With our 100th episode behind us, it's time to get back to business. This week's show is all about Puppy Star Christmas. Not only is this part four in the Pup Star series, but it's also the eighteenth installment in the inexplicably extant Air Bud franchise. And if that's not enough, this is specifically a spin-off of the original Santa Buddies. If none of that makes any sense, don't worry, we'll lay it all out for you.

But because this film almost willfully ignores its own plot, we're forced to discuss everything from the superiority of foreign potato chip flavors, to whether or not the TV show CHiPS had any Christmas episodes, to the short history of people squatting on web domains for large corporations. It's a living.

07 Sep 2021Episode 120: Santa Stole Our Dog!01:14:44

Let's try that whole Dog Days of Summer thing again, huh? Santa Stole Our Dog! absolutely has a dog in it, and this time it might even be important to the plot! Why on earth would Santa steal someone's dog, anyway? Well friends, this is not the first time a little critter has followed Ed Asner home...

And in order the tell the full story of Santa Stole Our Dog!, we receive a transmission from our sister podcast, The O/S/T Party, to suss out how the film managed to secure music from Dolly Parton.

That ain't even the half of what makes this week's film so bizarre, so grab yourselves a cold one, buckle up, and join us on another wild ride to the North Pole...

19 Jun 2024Episode 157: Ronin00:56:23

Summer is upon us once again, and that means it's time for a whole bunch of action movies! And in our case, that means action movies that may or may not actually have something to do with Christmas.

On this episode we're looking at the 1998 Euro-heist flick Ronin! Robert De Niro and Jean Reno speed across France in pursuit of a stolen briefcase, whose contents may or may not be a danger to world peace. Also, it's Christmas! You didn't think we'd just watch Ronin for no reason, did you?

Also in this episode: Bradford discusses his recent vacation to Paris, Jonathan brings up Rugrats in Paris for some reason, and we stumble backwards into the best pitch for an Austin Powers movie ever!

You lovely listeners voted to make us watch some obscure garbage this week, so we do exactly that with the 1972 bargain basement kiddie flick Santa & The Ice Cream Bunny! Will Santa escape the blistering Florida sun? What exactly is the point of Jack & The Beanstalk? As Joe describes it, if The Ring were a Christmas film, this is what you'd find on the cursed videotape. Enjoy, you maniacs!

11 May 2021Episode 114: Let It Snow (2019)00:49:08

We're finally back in the saddle this week with a Christmas movie that made all of us feel extremely old. It's the Netflix original film Let It Snow, which follows three sets of teens on Christmas Eve, each in search of love in one form or another. Naturally, all of these stories converge, and we have a real Love, Actually situation on our hands.

This one actually turns out to be a pretty open and shut case for us. It is exactly the film that you think it is, but that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. So hop on in and join us as we beg for some snow!

24 Nov 2017Episode 57: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang00:55:14

This year we're kicking off the holidays with a new annual tradition: It's Shane Black Friday! Director Shane Black cannot resist the urge to set all of his movies around the holidays, like this week's film, the 2005 detective farce Kiss Kiss Bang Bang!

Can Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer solve a Hollywood murder without killing each other first? How well has this film aged since its Bush-era heydey? The answer to these questions and more on this week's episode!

11 Jun 2019Stocking Stuffer #18: X-Men, "Have Yourself a Morlock Little X-Mas"00:35:59

With a brand new X-Men film currently in theaters, Joe & J-5 take it upon themselves to discuss "Have Yourself a Morlock Little X-Mas," the Christmas episode from season 4 of X-Men: The Animated Series.

The Morlocks have lured the X-Men into their lair in the hopes of delivering an X-Mas miracle. Can Jubilee, Wolverine and Storm save a young mutant's life and get back home in time for Gambit's X-Mas dinner? In 22 minutes, you'd better believe it!

Also in this episode, Joe waxes on about Dark Phoenix, the guys commiserate about the state of streaming television, and what constitutes a miracle in a world where everyone has mutant powers.

12 Mar 2019Episode 80: The Star01:07:08

Now, I know what you're thinking. "The Christmas podcast that does swears is gonna do a Bible movie?!?" Let me state right up front that there are absolutely ways to make religious movies with the artistry to back up the message. And then there are ways to make religious movies that exclusively preach to the choir. Guess which category The Star falls into...

We spend a lot of time discussing what makes this goofy little donkey film so uninspired. But fair warning: We also spend a lot of that time dropping f-bombs. If you're not cool with that, we'll see you next time. If you ARE cool with that, then I think you're in for a treat.

In this episode, we discuss the possibility of gorillas at the Nativity, what a remake of The Crow starring Oprah Winfrey might look like and, of course, where The Star fits into the Winslowverse.

13 Sep 2022Stocking Stuffer #28: The Christmas Gift of Light00:33:29

For years, internet sleuths have tried to identify a cartoon based on nothing but an old family Christmas photo. In an amazing turn of events, not only was the cartoon identified, but it turned out to be an obscure Christmas special titled The Christmas Gift of Light. So you know we had to watch that thing ASAP!

And watch it we did. On this Stocking Stuffer, Joe and Johnny-5 break down this odd little relic, spending entirely too long looking into the IMDb profiles of most of the voice cast, pondering the cartoon's purpose, and asking the big questions like "Why did we even want to watch this in the first place?"

11 Feb 2020Stocking Stuffer #21: Seinfeld, "The Pick"00:25:52

It's February, and by now you've probably accumulated a fair number of Christmas cards that you've either stashed or trashed. And that's what we want to talk about today, with "The Pick", the first of Seinfeld's two holiday episodes. "The Pick" finds Elaine agonizing over a Christmas card that features some unfortunate nudity, among other subplots that have little-to-nothing at all to do with Christmas.

...Listen, we really just wanted to talk about Seinfeld this week, alright? Also this episode eventually veers into King of the Hill chat, and the subject of Hank Hill's plumbing. You've been warned. Anywho, we'll be back with a regular episode before you know it!

28 Mar 2023Episode 141: Lady in the Lake (w/ Libby Cudmore)00:48:53

Noirch Madness continues! This week we take a look at the 1946 adaptation of Raymond Chandler's Lady in the Lake! And to help us break it down, we welcome back our resident detective fiction expert Libby Cudmore!

Lady in the Lake is the first feature film to be shot and staged entirely in the first person. The posters emphasized that the film's hero, detective Philip Marlowe, is played by "Robert Montgomery and you!" It's a fascinating gimmick, for sure, but how well does it help translate the novel? And what does changing the novel's setting to Christmas have to do with anything? Those are the very questions we aim to answer this week!

29 Dec 2021Episode 126-B: Ranking the Home Alone Traps00:42:38

Last week we pit the original Home Alone against its 2021 remake. Of course the remake didn't hold a candle to the original, but there is still a bit of unfinished business we need to discuss.

On this podcast, we attempt to rank all of the traps from both films. First we rank all the traps in the original Home Alone. Then we do the same for Home Sweet Home Alone. How does the iron to Marv's face stack up against the blowtorch to Harry's head? A billiards ball to the face vs a barrage of thumb tacks to the face; which is worse?

This episode attempts to answer these questions, and more!

19 Nov 2019Episode 92: A Christmas Story01:17:13

This one has been a long time coming. Our celebration of all things Bob Clark—known around these parts as CLARKSGIVING—comes to an end with perhaps the greatest Christmas movie of them all: A CHRISTMAS STORY!

Our friends Booker and Jessie join us for a discussion of one of the true kings of holiday cinema. The adventures of Ralphie Parker and his quest for that elusive Red Ryder BB gun have become an American institution in the form of TV marathons, museums and, yes, a cash-in sequel or three. But what makes this film endure where so many other wannabe Christmas classics simply don't? When exactly does the film take place? Who would want to live down the street from that house? We dig into all of that and more!

19 Apr 2022Episode 129: A Wrestling Christmas Miracle01:07:37

When we discussed A Karate Christmas Miracle last year, we swore that we wouldn't touch its follow-up unless we had no other choice. Ladies and gentlemen, that day came far sooner than we expected.

A Wrestling Christmas Miracle has the distinction of being the only Christmas movie to feature the late, great Gilbert Gottfried. Going into this, that was all we knew. Only now can we say that we have been well and truly snookered. Gottfried is only in this movie because it recycles footage from a completely different movie, one that actually does feature Gilbert Gottfried. It's all very ridiculous, and we'll do our best to explain it all on this week's episode!

10 Nov 2020Episode 107: Frosty The Snowman (w/ Jake Horowitz & Andy Lewis)00:40:09

This week we're joined by filmmakers Jake Horowitz and Andy Lewis to discuss the Rankin/Bass animated classic Frosty The Snowman!

Jake and Andy are the co-writers (and Jake the director) of the new holiday comedy Cup of Cheer! If you're a fan of the cozy, familiar Christmas movies that flood cable TV every holiday season, or even if you're not, then Cup of Cheer will be right up your alley. It's a big, goofy parody of the genre in the tradition of Airplane!, only with loads more Christmas trees and snow and awkward small-town romance.

On this episode we sit down with Jake and Andy to discuss the inspiration for their film, as well as some of their childhood favorites. This leads into a discussion of Frosty The Snowman and its place in the greater Rankin/Bass Cinematic Universe!

Cup of Cheer is now available to stream on Tubi!

Batman and Robin's quiet Christmas Eve is interrupted by The Joker, who's kidnapped Commissioner Gordon and set up all sorts of holiday havoc.

Where did "Jingle Bells, Batman Smells" come from? What did Batman think of It's A Wonderful Life? What is it about Batman that always seems to work so well with Christmas? Just a few of the questions raised in this episode. Come join us!

25 Dec 2023Stocking Stuffer #32: A Very Merry Adult Swim Christmas00:31:57

Merry Christmas, Creepazoids! The big day is finally here! On this episode, Joe is joined by his fiancée Nikki to share a few of their favorite Adult Swim Christmas episodes.

Nikki brings us "Dethmas", the Christmas episode of Metalocalypse, in which heavy metal band Dethklok get unwittingly roped into not only taking part in a TV Christmas special, but also into entertaining their mothers for Christmas. It's brutal. Then, Joe comes bearing the gift of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and "Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future", the single greatest episode title in television history.

To all our listeners, thank you so much for making us a part of your podcast rotation. 2023 has been a bit of a rocky year for us here at Christmas Creeps, but we've still tried to bring you the most entertaining, ridiculous Christmas media podcast of them all. We couldn't do this without you. So have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we'll see you in 2024!

Father's Day forced us to scrap our planned episode, so instead Joe and Brad decided to talk about one of their favorite things: Video games! In this double-wide edition of Stocking Stuffers, we discuss "Koopa Claus" from the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, as well as the Sonic the Hedgehog special Sonic Christmas Blast! Thanks a lot, dad.

08 Jun 2015Episode 10: Die Hard01:14:39

It's Birthday Boy's Choice this week as we celebrate Johnny-5's birthday by watching and discussing the granddaddy of all holiday heist movies starring Bruce Willis. That's right, we're watching Hudson Hawk, but for some reason the conversation immediately reverted back to Die Hard. Go figure.

13 Sep 2016Episode 36: Trapped in Paradise00:54:36

This week, special guest Drew Meyer returns to chat about the mid-90s Comedy Central staple Trapped in Paradise. If a movie has no fans, can it truly have fan theories? How many George Baileys does one town need? What is going on with Nicolas Cage in this movie, and how much of it is his fault? Join us as we attempt to answer these questions and more!

17 Apr 2024Episode 155: An All Dogs Christmas Carol01:04:43

On this episode we're talking about An All Dogs Christmas Carol! It's the series finale of the All Dogs Go To Heaven animated series, itself a sequel series to Don Bluth's original All Dogs Go To Heaven. This thing went on a whole lot longer than we would have guessed!

Now guardian angel dogs living in San Francisco, Charlie and Itchy take it upon themselves to pull a "Christmas Carol" on their nemesis, Carface (voiced by Ernest Borgnine!), to show him the error of his ways. There's also something about a demon dog hatching a plan to steal Christmas presents, but it's not important.

What IS important is that Joe gets hoodwinked into playing the donation game himself this week, and he does... well, the important thing is he does it.

10 May 2023Stocking Stuffer #29: Laid Back Camp, "Campmas"00:34:07

It's Ani-May once again, the time of year when Bradford takes the reins and forces us to watch a bunch of anime! Like moths returning to the flame, am I right?

This week we look at the Christmas episode of Laid Back Camp, fittingly titled "Campmas". How do a bunch of anime girls camping at the foot of Mt. Fuji celebrate Christmas? By day-drinking and cooking good food over a campfire, of course! What more does one need out of life?

Also in this episode, Joe and Bradford reminisce about their own childhood camping experiences, indulge in some video game chat, and get real hungry at the mention of s'mores...

11 Apr 2017Stocking Stuffer #3: Alf's Special Christmas00:25:39

This week, Joe and Bradford tackle part one of Alf's Special Christmas, a two-part holiday special filmed on location at the gates of Hell. In learning about the themes and traditions of Christmas, puppet space alien Alf explains a hundred ways to cook a cat, discovers how to relate to dying children, and also teaches us the warning signs of suicidal behavior. It only gets worse before it gets better, so come on in!

Happy November, gang! The holiday season is upon is and we are super busy right now. We prepared for this by recording a couple of Stocking Stuffers for your holiday pleasure while we're off taking care of business.

On this episode, Joe and Bradford take a stroll down Memory Lane by revisiting a childhood favorite: “O Christmas Pete”, the one and only Christmas episode of The Adventures of Pete & Pete! How long can Little Pete extend the holiday season before the dastardly Garbage Man trashes his good cheer? Let’s find out together!

16 Nov 2021Episode 123: The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus00:59:28

On this week's episode, we attempt to explain the weirdo madness of the 1985 Rankin/Bass special The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus! Based on a story by "Wizard of Oz" author L. Frank Baum, this special features a council of immortal wood nymphs, an army of invisible trolls, and an elf that may or may not have inspired a character from The Legend of Zelda. Oh, and somewhere in all that there's the origin story of Santa Claus.

Also in this week's show, we take some time to sample a few new holiday libations, break down what it means to be a Christmas movie, and share our pitches for The Christmas Chronicles 3!

27 Aug 2019Episode 87: Shazam!01:05:55

Summer is winding down, and since we've been in the superhero mood lately, we thought it would be fun to look at a film from earlier this summer. Shazam! not only takes place around the holidays, but makes particularly good use of it in service of its themes of family and togetherness. It's also a pretty damn fun movie, with a positive streak a mile wide.

Why would a studio produce a movie set at Christmas, only to turn around and release it in April? Why would a wizard tell anyone they weren't worthy of magic directly to their face? Why does one of the monsters in this movie strongly resemble Venom? We get into all of that and more!

18 Apr 2017Stocking Stuffer #4: Alf's Special Christmas (Part 2)00:27:17

Welcome back for the *thrilling* conclusion to Alf's Special Christmas. In this episode, Dr. Shumway delivers a baby, Alf Claus pulls both a Woody AND a Clarence, and Joe and Bradford find themselves baffled at a modern spin on the same puppety material. With so much maudlin promise in the first half of this special, is it any wonder that part 2 doesn't particularly stick the landing?

On this edition of Stocking Stuffers, Joe and Bradford dip into the madcap holiday antics of Ed Edd'n Eddy in their first holiday special: "Jingle Jingle Jangle". How hard is it to be selfless at Christmas? Why are everyone's own holiday customs so weird? How many Yuletide puns can one cartoon reasonably stand? Listen in and find out!

24 Nov 2016Episode 40: Christmas Vacation 201:03:58

Happy Thanksgiving, gang! We asked our Twitter followers to vote on what we should watch next. After a behind-the-scenes tiebreaker, democracy has spoken. The winner? National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure. The losers? All three of us. How dumb do you have to be to lose a job to a chimp? Why does mid-30s Audrey Griswold still act like a emotionally stunted teen? How old is too old to be listening to 311? The answers to these questions and more in this week's episode!

In honor of the Oscars, this week the gang dives into the class warfare and holiday stylings of 1983's Trading Places, the Academy Award-nominated comedy starring Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy! In this episode, we cover class warfare, Dan Aykroyd cramming a whole salmon in his shirt, and the 80s' fascination with blackface, great apes and Jim Belushi.

07 Aug 2018Episode 68: In Bruges01:01:33

August is Travel Month here on Christmas Creeps, and this month we've got two travel-themed episodes lined up just for you! This week, we're jetting off to Europe to discuss Martin McDonagh's 2008 murder comedy In Bruges. Join us as we follow hitmen Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson on a trip to a sleepy little town in Belgium, where we discuss the works of Hieronymus Bosch, consider Post-Tarantino crime films, and read negative Yelp reviews of Belgian bowling alleys!

CONTENT WARNING: Lots of talk about the film and its depiction of violence against minors in this episode. It’s kind of hard to talk about the film without it. Listener discretion is advised.

26 Mar 2024Episode 154: Daddy's Home 201:07:09

It's that time again! The gang's all here as we take a listener request and dedicate this week's episode to Daddy's Home 2! Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are all hunky dory as co-step-dads after the original Daddy's Home, so what better way to test that familial bond than by bringing in their own dads (John Lithgow and Mel Gibson, respectively) to help celebrate the holidays and/or completely ruin them?

In this episode, we talk about all manner of weird garbage, from the weird logistics of Airbnb, to the complicated legacy of "Do They Know It's Christmas", imagining fake movies made up for this movie, the phenomenon of going to the movies on Christmas Day, and a whole lot more!

Happy Christmas in July! On this episode, we're still knee deep in summer action season as we take a look at the Wesley Snipes/Woody Harrelson buddy cop flick Money Train!

They're two cops who also happen to be brothers, or is it two brothers who also happen to be cops? Either way, it's Christmastime in the Big Apple and Charlie owes a large gambling debt to a local mobster. What's a transit cop in need of cash to do? Why rob the money train, of course!

29 Jun 2021Episode 117: A Muppet Family Christmas00:48:15

Welcome back, friends! We're officially halfway to Christmas, so we figured what better way to round the corner on 2021 than with some toasty, heartwarming Muppet goodness!

A Muppet Family Christmas first aired in 1987 with a whole host of musical numbers, and due to copyright issues the special has appeared in a truncated form ever since. Unless you know where to look online... We dug up an original broadcast on YouTube, and that's what we're discussing today! So join us for a trip down memory lane as we discuss A Muppet Family Christmas, commercials and all!

Schneider joins us to discuss Shane Black's Iron Man 3, the only movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that even exists in the ballpark of holiday cinema.

08 Feb 2016Episode 25: The Munsters' Scary Little Christmas01:05:54

Happy February, gang! This week we popped our heads out of our podcast bunker and didn’t see our shadow, which as you know means go back four spaces and do Halloween all over again. In 1996, Universal scraped together a little bit of cash, rewrote A Charlie Brown Christmas and crapped out The Munsters’ Scary Little Christmas for broadcast television. In this episode, not only do we improbably land on one of the ultimate truths of Christmas, but also discover how to solve global warming the Final Fantasy way!

19 Nov 2024Episode 163: I Love You01:22:28

Last time, we discussed the Christmas slasher P2. This week we follow it up with a look at that film's unofficial 2023 Hindi remake, simply titled "I Love You". Same premise, same setting, there's a holiday involved (in this case Diwali)... I don't know what surprised us more: The fact that we're even covering this movie on our podcast in the first place, or the fact that we all actually kinda liked it?

For our purposes, we have a fun time comparing the two movies, and seeing what elements of the original translate to a film made halfway around the world. We fully realize three white Americans are the last people who should be discussing anything related to Diwali or Indian cinema in general, so we hope you'll bear with us as we tread some new territory for Christmas Creeps!

Also! Returning guest Dr. Nick delivers a late-episode derail into video game chat about the Ace Attorney games. So never let it be said that this podcast doesn't stay extremely on-brand about absolutely everything...

It’s October, everybody! Grab your pumpkin spiced beverages and your candy corn flavored whatnots, because it’s time to go Home For the HorrorDays! This week, we’re discussing the indie/Aussie holiday horror film Better Watch Out. This film features a couple twists and turns that get us very riled up, so we encourage you to hunt down a copy to watch before diving in to join us. Then again, if holiday slashers aren’t really your thing, we do pretty much spoil the whole movie and then some. So we got your back!

Happy 2018 everyone! Join us this week as we ring in the new year with Pottersville, a movie so baffling and star-studded that we honestly have no idea what to do with it. It's got Bigfoot! It's got furries! It's got a bunch of hamfisted references to It's A Wonderful Life! It's one of the more inexplicably weird movies we've ever covered on the podcast, and it is also 100% real. 31 May 2022Episode 131: Enemy of the State01:14:32

This Memorial Day, we're kicking off our Summer Holiday Movie Season! All summer long we'll be highlighting ridiculous summer action movies with a holiday bent!

On this episode we're taking the modern surveillance state to task with Tony Scott's 1998 mistaken identity thriller Enemy of the State! Will Smith is on the run from the NSA, who believe he's in possession of a videotape with incriminating evidence on it. In a shocking twist, he actually does have the tape, but he's still completely innocent. And all this because the guy just wanted to buy some Christmas gifts for his wife...

This week, we're discussing Ron Howard's 2000 fever dream of a live-action Grinch film starring Jim Carrey! Also, Joe shares a recent tale of body horror, the gang reels in terror at the Grinch's secret origin story, and Johnny-5 tries his hardest to break Bradford with the power of Benedict Cumberbatch. 10 Sep 2019Episode 88: Four Christmases01:29:50

Welcome to Vaughn-a-thon! This month we're highlighting the two holiday features produced by and starring Vince Vaughn. We kick things off with Four Christmases, which we assumed would be the lesser of two evils. We assumed wrong. From the sheer volume of A-list stars with nothing to do, to the film's weirdly antagonistic tone, to the way it forces regressive notions about family upon a couple with more modern sensibilities, Four Christmases is a dire experience all the way around!

Also in this episode we discuss Freeform's Halloween TV schedule, ponder how seasonal creep operates in the Southern hemisphere, and Joe and Bradford gets a chance to gush about one of their favorite films! Check it out!

08 Dec 2020Episode 109: Surviving Christmas01:08:24

The twinkling of tiny LED Christmas lights can only mean one thing: The holiday season is officially upon us. That means home cooked meals and dysfunctional family visits and traumatic memories suppressed with copious amounts of egg nog. With that in mind, this week's episode is about all of those things! On this episode we're talking about the 2004 holiday stinker Surviving Christmas.

Ben Affleck is back as a miserable ad executive who pays the family living in his childhood home a large sum of money to pretend to be his family for Christmas. He desperately mugs his way through 90 minutes of tired Christmas jokes hoping that at least one person out there will laugh. By the end of it all we find ourselves reminiscing about old episodes of Doug and wishing Ben Affleck had played ALF. Literally anything to stave off the the boredom of having to talk about Surviving Christmas.

Happy Christmas in July, superfriends! You didn't think we'd be doing one, but guess what? We're doing one! And wow is this one a doozy...

A Karate Christmas Miracle is one of those movies that defies explanation. A kid sets out to teach himself enough karate to reach black belt by Christmas in order for his missing father to come home after a yearlong absence. Why is he missing? Who is responsible? Why is the kid having psychic phone calls to The Karate Kid's Martin Kove? All of these are questions we asked ourselves while watching this baffling freight train to Nightmare City.

This week on the show, the guys tackle the 1999 drug-fueled teen crime comedy GO. We got a creepy techno robot Santa, we got beater cars decked out in Christmas lights, and we got Joe being wrong about absolutely everything. 28 Feb 2023Episode 140: I, The Jury00:51:25

Film noir is a genre we've only barely scratched the surface of here on Christmas Creeps. But that ends today! This March, we're highlighting some classic film noirs that also happen to be Christmas films. And what would we call such an event? NOIR-CH MADNESS!

This week Joe and Bradford discuss the 1953 film I, The Jury, the film debut of Mickey Spillane's hard-nosed detective character Mike Hammer. In this film, Hammer vows to hunt down his best friend's killer, which leads him on a wild goose chase through the snow-covered streets of New York City.

Also, Joe and Brad spend a good chunk of the back end of this episode on Video Game Chat, so if you like hearing us not talk about Christmas and movies, we got ya covered!

25 Feb 2020Episode 96: Jack Frost (1979)00:42:36

Winter has finally arrived in our little pocket of the world, friends, and so on this episode we dive into the Rankin/Bass tale of Jack Frost! There are many Jack Frosts in the world, and this is the only one that features steampunk horses, climate-induced poverty, and a knight of King Arthur's Round Table who has a summer cottage somewhere on the Eurasian Steppe.

This is a very...strange cartoon. So strange, in fact, that Jack Frost clearly wasn't cool enough to carry this thing on his own, so they introduced a groundhog voiced by Buddy Hackett. That's right! Star of Disney's The Love Bug Buddy Hackett!! Wow!
