On today's episode, we chat with Blessing Offor! Blessing Offor speaks to relatable experiences of struggle, triumph, life, and love from a distinctive perspective as a Nigerian-born, Connecticut-raised, and Nashville-based singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. Exhibiting virtuosic piano ability, honest songwriting, and a showstopping voice, his musical fluency and creative foresight are unmatched only made more inspiring by his journey.

With five older siblings, Blessing left Nigeria at just six years old to live with his uncle in Connecticut. Glaucoma left him blind in one eye, and Mom and Dad felt he might find better medical care in the United States. He lost sight in the other eye at ten years old due to a water gun accident. Nevertheless, Blessing dove into music. He devoured classics by Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Commodores, and Barry White. He was even allowed to listen to Eminem under one condition – “If I said any of the words, my uncle would take it away,” he laughs.

From a young age, Blessing had the natural ability to learn music by ear, developing incredible skill while quickly building his musical index.

“Seeing things differently—no pun intended—helps me elucidate concepts in ways people aren’t used to,” he notes. “Everybody has a different filter and a place they come from. My place was, ‘Oh man, my vision is terrible.’ It was frustrating early on, but it trained my ear.”

Now, this international upbringing, unbelievable journey, quiet grind, and confluence of styles define his 2023 debut full-length album, My Tribe, that brings together soul, pop, R&B, and African styles in service of a universal sound—which he fittingly dubs “the genre of humanity.”

“All of the elements on this record come together to make one whole human,” he observes. “We all have a little bit of spirituality, a little bit of pain, and a little bit of joy. These lyrics are my words from my life. Musically, there’s a lot of who I am! Last but not least, I wasn’t afraid to be honest. There are some heartbreak songs, and there are some more ambiguous songs. This is music for the world. This is music for every universal feeling we have regardless of who we are. Ultimately, I tried to make a life record.”

On today's edition of the Christian Music Guys, we talk about our big announcement! We will be at Ichthus Festival 2023! Beginning in 1970, following the historic Asbury Revivals, Ichthus became known as one of the nation’s longest-running Christian music events. Taking its name from ichthys, the fish symbol used by early Christians, Ichthus carried out a mission to be an alternative to secular events like Woodstock and was designed to reach high school and college students. 

 

In 2013 the Ichthus grounds in Wilmore Ky. were purchased by Joe and Cheryl Lycan, who renamed the property “Servant Heart Farm”. The couple is dedicated to bringing the Ichthus experience back home to the farm.   

With new ownership and a new vision for ministry, through a partnership with a small group of volunteers and local contributors, Ichthus was relaunched in 2021.

Born into a rich musical lineage that influenced her own trajectory from an early age, Jasmine Christmas Brady is the daughter of beloved Gospel songstress Candy Hemphill Christmas; the granddaughter of Southern Gospel pioneers Joel and LaBreeska Hemphill; and the great-niece of genre icons Howard and Vestal Goodman of The Happy Goodmans. Brady appeared in various Gaither Homecoming and Homecoming Kids videos, and she went on to sing with Lee University’s world-renowned Voices of Lee ensemble. As a solo artist, her recordings include 2021’s Shalom and 2022’s Come Alive.

 

Brady spent a decade on staff at The Bridge—a multi-faceted ministry founded by her mother to serve the needs of Nashville’s homeless and underprivileged—and today she is the worship pastor at Regeneration Nashville, the congregation led by her father, Pastor Kent Christmas. On today's episode, we chat with Producer, Jason brown! His latest movie, Camp Hideout, releases nationwide, this Friday, the 15th! When mischievous Noah (Ethan Drew) gets himself into trouble with 2 “bad guys” by accidentally stealing their property, he escapes to a summer camp. Little does he know this camp is run by the notorious Falco (Christopher Lloyd) and his dog Lazarus who both despise technology and have a short temper when it comes to children. Thankfully there are kind and optimistic camp leaders like Jake (Corbin Bleu) to help guide him and cheer him up. Although Noah is extremely pessimistic upon arrival, he begins to soften and create bonds with some of the other kids at camp. He learns some valuable lessons in integrity, faith, and friendship which is helpful when the bad guys show up looking for him and their missing item. The camp kids band together in a Home Alone style funhouse in the woods with boobie traps ranging from slick decks with zip lines at the lake to huts filled with bees. In the end, Falco steps up to help the kids and they all learn a valuable lesson in sticking together.

John has served as general counsel to three companies, helped launch, finance and operate several businesses, and has worked on over 100 film and television projects. He was the founding general counsel of Pedestal, an online trading platform owned by Deutsche Bank, Reuters and Battery Ventures; of Federal City Bancorp; and of Culture11, an online media company. 

He began his legal career at Davis Polk & Wardwell and Latham & Watkins, where he advised on securities offerings and mergers and acquisitions. 

John earned his J.D. at Georgetown, where he was associate editor of the Georgetown Law Journal, and his B.A. from the University of California, Davis (Phi Beta Kappa).

He paid his way through college working as a professional firefighter/EMT.

On today's episode, we chat with Mack Brock! Centricity Music recording artist and songwriter Mack Brock is one of the founding members of GRAMMY Award-winning Elevation Worship. Co-penning some of Elevation’s earliest hits, like RIAA certified Double Platinum® single “O Come To The Altar,” Platinum-certified “Do It Again” and Gold-certified “Resurrecting,” Brock has also written songs recorded by Phil Wickham, Jesus Culture, Passion, Pat Barrett and Bryan & Katie Torwalt, among others.

After a decade with Elevation Worship, Brock released his debut, Greater Things, which garnered him a radio hit with the title-cut. The five-track Covered EP followed the next year, and 2020’s SPACE cemented Brock as a bonafide solo artist. His newest single, the anthemic “Just Like You’ve Always Done,” which is his first for Centricity Music, was co-written with Hank Bentley and Jessie Early. The song boasts of the consistency of God yesterday, today and forever.

“It’s the launching pad of what we believe,” Brock says of the fresh track. “He is the same as He’s always been. He’s the same God that’s the lead character in all the stories we’ve read in Scripture. He’s still working miracles.”

The strength of Brock’s new music rides on the hope he finds in the unfolding story his family is living. The South Carolina native and his wife, Meredith, who currently serves as the CEO of Proverbs 31 Ministries, have three children. From the unexpected joy discovered in foster parenting to leaving the known to pursue the unknown, Brock writes songs to remind his own heart and encourage others that there’s an all-knowing God who is sovereign over it all and is worthy of all our praise.

“With my music, I’m just trying to relive all the times God has shown up,” he says. “I want to use that as a catalyst to build my faith and, hopefully, encourage others in their faith for the future as well.”

Natalie’s latest independent single “Love Me Back to Life” has gained millions of views on Instagram Reels and on TikTok where she has over 196,000 followers and 2.8 million likes on her videos. The single follows her 2021 Castles EP and 2020 independent debut Be Human that has garnered attention worldwide. The music led to opening concerts for Jeremy Camp, Chris Tomlin, and We the Kingdom, as well as sharing stages at festivals with Steven Curtis Chapman, Mandisa, and Crowder.

 

Playing in several Nashville-based R&B and jazz bands, Natalie graduated with a Master’s Degree in Commercial Piano from Belmont University where she also taught Fundamentals of Music classes. She began leading worship at the age of 12, leading alongside worship pastors such as Cory Asbury, Jon Egan and Jared Anderson. The Jason Lovins Band is known for their unique fusion of country, Gospel and worship styles, but it’s Jason’s testimony that ultimately propels their mission and purpose. Born in Huntington, West Virginia, to a 15-year-old girl who was assaulted and impregnated by a stranger as she walked home from the community swimming pool, Jason’s mother bravely chose to give life to a child conceived in such a horrific circumstance. Raised by his mother and grandmother in a devout household of faith, Jason’s musical foundation was laid at an early age as he travelled with his grandmother’s Gospel singing group. He formed his first contemporary Christian band in college, and one night while playing at a local church, Jason felt compelled to tell his birth story for the very first time on stage. Deeply moved, the church's pastor made Jason promise he would continue to share the pivotal account each time he performed, and it’s a promise he continues to keep today.

On today's episode, we chat with two time guest, Joseph O' Brien! Joseph O’Brien is a Singer/Songwriter based out of Nashville, TN. On today's Friday edition, we chat with Grace Graber! In many ways, Grace Graber is the voice of a rising movement full of people who believe that maybe both faith and mental health matter — in fact, maybe they’re inextricably intertwined.

 

With a pop-punk sound in the playful yet heartfelt tradition of Avril Lavigne, Grace’s musical message runs in tandem with her viral social media presence. Her candid conversations about mental health, music, and her faith resonate with followers who immediately feel a kinship with her genuine heart. Part of that authenticity stems from the fact that Grace Graber has lived a journey very similar to her listeners.

 

“This ministry, the rest of my music, none of this is about me,” Grace is quick to say. “It’s about what God wants to do in His people, specifically through mental health. That’s an epidemic right now. We need to be talking about it more. I’m not doing music for me, to get on radio, to get signed. I’m doing music to save lives.”

 

Not too long ago, Grace Graber was a suicidal teenager struggling with PTSD from severe bullying. Music gave her the ability to survive— specifically, a Hawk Nelson song that met her where she was. In a glorious full-circle moment, Hawk Nelson’s founding vocalist Jason Dunn would later feature on Grace’s song “This One’s For You,” a track from the Conversations EP that was written for anyone in a place like the one she walked through.

 

“I feel like God opened more doors to healing,” Grace reflects. “It was like opening up a wound and forcing myself to feel some trauma that I didn't realize I could still feel. Now that I have a therapist and a team, now that I’ve done this collaboration and I'm in a healthy place, I'm able to find resolution to it all for my teenage self, who is content and happy and feels valued.”

 

Songs like “The Light” and “Do It For Me” speak to some of that possibility of healing, with Grace being fixed on the core message: “if God can do it for me, He can do it for anybody.”

On today's episode, we chat with two time guest, Michael W. Smith! Multi-Platinum artist, best-selling author and acclaimed actor Michael W. Smith continues to live out his dream; he releases new music regularly and performs around the world to sold-out crowds of loyal and inspired fans. During Michael’s storied career, he’s not only been honored with three Grammy Awards, 45 Dove Awards, an American Music Award and has sold more than 15 million albums, he’s also given back to the global community. Michael has raised funds to battle AIDS in Africa alongside longtime friend Bono, started Rocketown, a safe haven for young people in Tennessee to meet and find hope, and has helped more than 70,000 children’s lives through Compassion International. The five-song worship EP features four classics including “In Christ Alone” and “Agnus Dei”  and also features a brand new song, “Crimson Dust”, which Smith wrote alongside Tony Wood.   On the new song, Smith says, “Crimson Dust, which I wrote with Tony Wood, sets the scene of the day of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. My prayer is that it reminds us how heaven touched earth and changed history that day. I love the thought of people around the world singing together ‘Holy, Holy, Holy, Jesus Lamb of God.’”   The first four tracks were captured live with the Nashville Recording Orchestra and a choir at the beautiful Fisher Center at Belmont University. On today's episode, we chat with Mac Powell! Mac Powell, former frontman of the Christian rock band Third Day. Throughout their nearly three-decade career, the band sold over 10 million albums, earned four Grammy Awards, one American Music Award, 24 Dove Awards, and was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Since Third Day’s farewell tour in 2018 Mac released his debut solo Christian album “New Creation” on October 15th, 2021 which landed at NO.1 on the Top Christian & Gospel album chart. River of Life, the debut single from “New Creation” became a Top 10 hit at Christian radio followed by the multi-week title track, New Creation, which spent 7 weeks at NO. 2 and 16 weeks inside the top 10. Mac is on staff at Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, GA where he lives with his wife Aimee and children. Mac's latest Christmas EP is out now.
