Have you ever been curious on how to write a really amazing cover letter?

12 Dec 2019What To Do When You Have Lost Your Job / Career / Work Passion00:16:26

We absolutely need to be passionate about something!

Could be in your job, also could be in your personal life.

Something that fuels us.

Sometimes we are going through some hard stuff and work and our passion fizzles out.

That is ok

What we need to evaluate is:

  • Is this funk or fizzle permanent?
  • Is it worth riding it out / sticking it out / seeing it through?
  • Do your have other passions outside of work?

I've had jobs that fizzle from a passion perspective, find other things!

  • Learning
  • Getting outside our comfort zone
  • Exercise
  • Podcasting
  • Puppies
  • Etc etc

There are also times where the passion increases at work so we may have to slow down on passions outside of work.

Tips:

  1. Stay positive
  2. What were you passionate about, if anything?
  3. What are you currently passionate about?
  4. Is there anything from your personal life you can incorporate into work?
  5. Have a transparent conversation with your leader
  6. Stop the grind
  7. What changed?
  8. Are you just bored? Or have you truly lost your passion?
  9. Take your time off, use it, for real!
  10. Make a plan to re-light your fire
  11. Hard question: are you getting in your own way?
  12. Find a coach or mentor

19 Jun 2017You're Rejected Because You're Overqualified00:13:44

Have you ever been rejected from a position or from an application for the reason that you are overqualified?

This is legitimate reason to turn someone down for positions however there are a lot of assumptions and myths out there around this topic so let’s talk about this!

I want to talk about this topic in 4 main topics.

Common Myths

  1. People think they are getting rejected because they are too old
  2. “I was told I was overqualified for the position but now what I think is you won’t hire me because I will someday take the hiring manager’s job”
  3. The hiring manager or recruiter feels threatened

Candidate Concerns

  1. Income
  2. Supporting their family
  3. They want to do work that is easier than what they have been doing in the past

HR / Human Resources / Recruiting / Hiring Manager Concerns

  1. Offering people work that is going to challenging and exciting for them
  2. We feel people will leave early or right away
  3. Position alignment
  4. Compensation

Things You Can Do

  1. Aim higher
  2. If you’re looking to do easier work, ensure you are talking to everyone you talk about why you want to make the move and what is motivating this transition

Being overqualified is not the same as being under qualified for a position.

16 Oct 2017To Take A Contract Or Not To Take The Contract - Ways To Determine If Contracting / Consulting Is For You00:12:32

Today we are talking about contracting and consulting today!

Reasons contracting might be a good option for you:

1) You are chasing industries and you don’t have any experience in the new industry

2) Typically you do get more money

3) If you get bored after 6-24 months with a company or in a particular role and you feel you are changing jobs often because you’re bored and you need that change

4) You’re the type of person who likes to work for a variety of different companies

5) You want to work in different type of industries

Reasons why contracting might not be a good fit for you:

1) If you are going to be constantly stressed out about your contract ending, you’re not sure what you’re going to do next and this will give you a ton of stress and anxiety

2) If you need certain benefits if you can’t get in a contracting role (hold for the myths section though LOL)

3) If you will have a fear of not getting a new contract when your current one is over (also this is the opposite of having an abundance mindset

4) If you are the type of person who wants to find a really great company and stick with that company into retirement

Contracting Myths

1) Contracting doesn’t offer stability

2) Benefits

21 Sep 2020How To Avoid Burnout00:16:58

Burnout is NOT fun!

Over working yourself to the point where you need to sleep for days is not cool. Being busy is not something you should aspire to. Amazing time management and career alignment should be the goal.

While working too many hours can lead to burnout, it's not the only cause.

Causes:

  1. Too many hours
  2. Working a job you hate
  3. Working for a terrible leader
  4. Not enough rest

14 Mar 2019How To Choose A Major00:08:57

Choosing a major feels insanely important … when you’re doing it.

According to the Washington Post only 27% of people have jobs related to their major.

If it feels like it’s really overwhelming and really hard, take a deep breath.

It is hard.

But know this.

73% of people aren’t using their degree.

When you’re looking at choosing a major you can take 2 different paths / approaches.

Option 1 -

You can go with your passions, your dreams, your personality.

Research.

List out what you’re passionate about.

List out what your dreams are.

Write about your dream life. Don’t limit that.

Take some personality tests.

Most of them have a job / career section. When you’re looking at that, what is of interest?

What will give you job / career satisfaction.

Find people who have worked in those fields.

Option 2 -

Going after the majors that align with the classes that you really enjoyed.

Find people in those fields, ask them all of the questions.

What you shouldn’t do when you’re trying to choose a major:

1 - you shouldn't do what other people are telling you to do

2 - you shouldn't decide based on what you’re friends are doing

3 - you shouldn't decide based on what is cool and popular

05 Sep 2019What To Do When You’re Moved Into a New Role That You Are Not Passionate About00:08:43

We live in a world of mergers and acquisitions. Restructures and reorgs.

If and when this happens it's a great opportunity to do some reflecting.

Tips:

  1. Ask yourself: do you hate this new role or just lack passion?
  2. What did you like about your old role?
  3. What motivated in your previous position?
  4. What were you passionate about in your previous role?
  5. Is there anything you like about your new role?
  6. Is this a permanent change?
  7. In general what are you passionate about?
  8. What gets you excited to get up and go to work?
  9. Can you shift the culture to make the role / team more fun?
  10. Focus on the positive
  11. Do other people feel the same way?
  12. Might be time to brush the dust off your resume and adventure into a new role
  13. Establish daily / weekly goals
  14. Can you learn something new in this role?
  15. Is your new leader someone you could have an open, candid conversation with?
  16. If you stick it out, what are your career growth options? Could it be worth it?

20 Dec 2016Feedback00:08:20

Feedback is so important, I cannot stress enough how important feedback is.

Here’s a question for you:

Do you ask for feedback often? At work? At home? With friends?

Why or why not?

Take some time to think about that.

Am I asking my boss for feedback?

Am I asking my colleagues for feedback?

Am I asking my spouse at home for feedback?

Am I asking my family for feedback?

Am I asking my friends what their thoughts are?

This is really important.

Specifically as it relates to our career, feedback is a really interesting part of our jobs that most of us only receive once a year.

Often it’s in the form of annual review, performance review or a merit increase conversation.

It is usually a very formal conversation and often it is not very helpful or productive.

All employees care about what their raise is going to be.

Often managers need to just get the reviews done.

I want you to think about how you can get more feedback throughout the year so you can constantly be improving.

If you sit down with your boss and they tell you hey Steph I think you did a really good job in A, B, C categories, I think you could use improvements in D, E and F categories and here are some examples from 3, 6 and 11 months ago.

What?!?! Why wouldn’t we get that feedback right away and on the spot.

Here’s the deal, you need to ask for the feedback.

Ask hey manager how can I improve? What suggestions for you have for me?

You need to be the one who takes charge of the conversation.

THEN you need to be grateful for whatever the response is.

Feedback is a gift.

EVEN if we don’t like the feedback we get.

It tells us how we can improve and what people’s perceptions are of you.

It is a gift.

Even if you disagree, even if you think it’s complete bullshit.

Now you know!

Don’t react in a negative way if you get bad feedback, don’t get defensive, take notes, ask follow up questions.

You want to make the conversation easy so the person will want to share their feedback with you in the future.

Ask questions like:

How can I improve X metric?

What areas can I improve in?

Where do I do well?

What are my strengths?

Don’t forget to share your gratitude for the feedback!!!

Thank you so much for listening.

16 Jan 2017Self Awareness00:11:36

Have you ever wondered how your self awareness impacts your work?

Or how personal development impacts your work?

Today we are talking about self awareness, this is really important both at work and at home.

Today we are talking about 7 things you need to be self aware of:

1) Strengths

What do you do well?

What are the things you totally awesome at

2) Weaknesses

Where are your areas of opportunity?

What are the things you can still grow in?

What do you need improvement on?

A couple tools you can use to help better understand yourself are:

1) Myers Briggs personality test

Check out:

16personalities.com

2) Strengths Finder (book)

Here is a link to the book on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/StrengthsFinder-2-0-Tom-Rath/dp/159562015X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1484006734&sr=8-1&keywords=strengths+finder

When I first got into personal development and looked at these two tools, I was literally blown away by all the information I learned. It’s not that we don’t know ourselves, its really putting that information into words and turning that into actionable items.

3) Triggers

When you are stressed what triggers you to get upset, frustrated, disengaged, distracted, etc?

Once you understand your triggers, you need to put systems in place to help avoid or overcome those triggers.

4) Asking yourself why you feel a certain way about certain situations

When you think about how you feel, think about why you are feeling that way

5) Asking yourself if you ever get irrationally angry at work

We all get upset, frustrated, angry, etc at work. But ask yourself if you get irrationally angry, then ask yourself why. Then take that answer and ask yourself why, and repeat this process a couple more times. This will help you understand the entire situation

6) Ask yourself if any of your ‘weaknesses’ can be considered strengths?

7) Ask yourself if you plan to work on your strengths? Or work on your weaknesses?

Do you want to make a few weaknesses a little bit better or do you want to take your strengths and make them excellent?

Know yourself and understand yourself so we can do better!

27 Feb 2020Videos in Job Applications00:10:22

Videos in job applications are becoming more and more popular and more and more common.

I've seen it in 2 ways:

  1. Built in as part of your application (integrated into the ATS)
  2. Asked to go to another platform and copy/paste the video link

Pros:

  1. More personal
  2. Can assess potential culture fit better
  3. Understand someone's personality before an interview
  4. Get specific questions answered
  5. Unique ... for now
  6. Saves time
  7. Reduces costs
  8. Can record if needed
  9. Consistent process for everyone

Cons:

  1. Could be discriminatory to conscious or unconscious bias
  2. Not appropriate for all jobs
  3. People can re-record
  4. Takes time for candidates
  5. A good portion of candidates won't do it

Tips:

  1. Be professional
  2. Dress as you would for an in person interview
  3. Make sure your background is clean and presentable
  4. Re-record if you need to and are able to
  5. Let your personality shine
  6. Be sure to directly answer the questions asked
  7. Answer the question thoroughly without rambling or going on tangents
  8. Make an outline before you hit record
  9. Watch/edit if possible

16 Mar 2020How To Help With Your Partners Involuntary Career Change 00:12:59

There are a couple reasons someone could have an involuntary career change.

To clarify the situation we are talking about:

1 - Career change (moving from HR to IT for example)

2 - Job change (moving from IT developer at one company to being a IT developer at another company)

We are talking about #1

Reasons this could happen:

  1. Acquisition - new company comes in, moves people around
  2. Layoff
  3. Partner goes to a new job, changes once they start
  4. Re-organization
  5. Transformation

Things to consider:

  • Possible heightened stress, learning new things
  • More than likely higher workload up front, learning new things
  • Super excited
  • Looking for support more than likely
  • Could be unhappy

Questions to ask yourself / your person:

  1. How am I / you doing?
  2. Challenges?
  3. Like?
  4. Dislike?
  5. How does this new job / career make you feel?
  6. Are you satisfied with your new role?
  7. Are you being challenged enough?
  8. What impact are you / I having?
  9. Do you feel fulfilled?
  10. How is the company culture? Has it changed? How is it aligning to you?
  11. Has your manager changed? How is that new relationship?
  12. What are some potential job opportunities?

23 Jan 2020Tips on How To Deal With A Micromanager 00:13:16

Micromanagers aren't always doing it just to be jerks. They may not even know they are coming across this way. Often they have learned bad habits from other bad leaders. Other times they are under stress and aren't sure how to deal.

Tips:

  1. Try to give them the benefit of the doubt
  2. Try to explain how you felt during a specific time the micro managing was too much
  3. Offer a counter solution
  4. Accept that it may never change and create a plan
  5. Get support from your team
  6. Inform, inform, inform
  7. Think ahead
  8. Uncover the fears
  9. Set boundaries
  10. Evaluate yourself and your work
  11. Proactively work to increase trust where / when you can

09 Nov 2020Blaming Others / Playing The Blame Game00:20:12

Blaming others for anything sucks and it's not cool.

Tips

  1. Over communicate
  2. Document / track / keep record
  3. Speak with manager directly if you feel comfortable
  4. If it continues you may need to loop in HR
  5. Further escalation could be cc'ing your manager's manager
  6. Take ownership / responsibility where needed
  7. Propose and implement changes to fix larger / reoccurring issues
  8. Try not to assume the worst
  9. Keep it factual
  10. Schedule regular checkins to ensure alignment
  11. Ask clarifying questions when needed

21 Feb 2019Unpacking Podcast: Goal Setting / Life Evaluation / Prioritization / Assessment00:13:15

Link to Unpacking:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/unpacking/id1411156933?mt=2

Today we are diving into some goal setting, prioritization and life evaluation in general. Typically people look at goals at the beginning of the year in January however I still think in February this will be helpful.

I’m going to have you list out the different areas of your life. Some areas may include:

Family

Friends

Kids / Children

Pets

Spirituality / Faith / Religion

Personal Growth & Development

Self Care / Self Love / Alone Time

Spouse / Partner

Dating

Marriage

School / Education

Relationships

Health / Fitness / Movement

Money / Finances / Wealth

Hobbies

Side Businesses / Side Projects

What I want you to do is rate yourself in each category from 1-10.

1 being really bad

10 being really good

As you are setting these goals, let’s use the SMART acronym.

S = Specific

M = Measurable

A = Achievable

R = Relevant

T = Time bound / Timely

11 Jul 2019What to do when your team is not supportive00:09:10

Help doesn't always have to  come from our direct team!

Prep:

  • Get clear on the exact problem
  • What is causing the problem
  • Where did you get stuck?
  • What have you tried?
    • Did any of those action items move the needle?

Network:

  • Are there other teams that can help you?
  • If you asked your colleagues, can your boss help?
  • If you asked your boss, can your colleagues help?
  • Network: ex-colleagues?
    • Previous leaders
    • LinkedIn
    • Job specific meet ups
    • Social media platforms
    • Ask experts in your field

Evaluate:

  • Is this a company you want to stay at?
  • Is this a leader you want to work for and align to?
  • It's ok to move on if this is a long term issue vs temporary problem

Continue to be a rockstar!

  • Communicate progress / roadblocks / solutions
  • Stay consistent
  • Ask for flexibility
  • Have a plan
  • Understand the goals you're working towards
  • Take control
  • Can't fix or change it all, accept that
  • Perform well

21 Aug 2017What To Include And Exclude From Your Resume00:13:12

Have you ever started applying for jobs and submitted a ton of applications but didn’t really get any responses or getting a ton of rejection letters?

Or not making it past the application stage?

If the answer is yes, there might be something wrong with your resume.

What to include on your resume:

1) Contact information

  • First and last name (put what you want to be called on your resume, you can put your legal name on your application)
  • Phone number - it should be the number you want to be contact at (cell phone vs. house phone)
  • Email
  • City and state

2) Education

  • If you have a college degree, include your college degree and beyond
  • If you do not have a college degree, you want to make sure you have your high school education on there

3) Skills

  • Should be bulleted out
  • 5-10 skills
  • Relevant to the jobs you’re applying for

4) Experience

  • Job history
  • If you don’t have any working history, you can include college projects and / or volunteer experience

What to exclude from your resume:

1) Graduation dates

2) Objectives

3) References

  • Remove the references
  • Also remove the line ‘references available upon request’

4) CAPTIAL LETTERS

5) Long summaries

27 Jul 2020Working Too Many Hours00:23:07

As we've talked about before, work/life balance will never be perfect.

AND there is a point where too much is too much.

We are not robots and can't be expected to go 100 MPH 24/7.

Two situations/reasons where we are working too many hours:

  • Expectations we put on ourselves
  • Expectations others set on us

Tips for when we set expectations for ourselves:

  1. Set boundaries
  2. Utilize timers
  3. Set a schedule and stick to it 80-90% of the time
  4. Dig down deep and establish / determine why you feel the need / pressure to put on yourself
  5. Schedule time away
  6. Make a self care list
  7. Make a local wish list
  8. Research and understand achievement vs. perfectionism vs. compulsion vs. obsessed
  9. Establish your why
  10. Accept and embrace and encourage your failures
  11. Prioritize ALL the things
  12. Exercise / movement
  13. Meditation / spiritual / religious practice

Tips for when others set expectations for us:

  1. Try to figure out if they put expectations on themselves that you are picking up
  2. Set boundaries
  3. Talk to your leader
  4. Can you add resources to the team
  5. Balance with exercise, movement, eating well, fun, self care, etc.
  6. Talk to HR or upper management if your leader can't help
  7. Evaluate if you're in the right place
  8. Put yourself first

Burn out isn't fun, feeling exhausted isn't fun.

Fuzzy brain is hard.

You need to take care of yourself. You deserve it!!

Signs you're working too much:

  1. Skipping meals / eating really bad
  2. No time with friends
  3. Not enough time with your partner and family
  4. Pets being neglected
  5. Missing key events
  6. Brain is fuzzy all the time
  7. Feel drained all the time
  8. Surviving on coffee / energy drinks
  9. Skipping exercise
  10. Not doing the fun things you're passionate about

03 Oct 2019Will I Get The Job? Did My Interview Go Well?00:10:22

It's hard to say for sure whether or not someone will get a job. However we can chat about the signs your interview went well!
Positive signals the interview went well (should have multiple of these)

  1. Recruiter or hiring manager re-aligns compensation with you
  2. The company follows up with you before you follow up with them
  3. Asking when you'd be available to start
  4. The team (usually recruiting) genuinely wants to hear your feedback
  5. Company is trying to get you in for next steps ASAP
  6. Asking for references
  7. Explaining the offer approval process or background check details
  8. Asked about your interest in the job
  9. Asked if you have any other interviews or offers
  10. Team gives clarity of role, responsibilities and day to day
  11. You feel you're being sold to (company or role)
  12. Your interview runs late
  13. The person you followed up with actually responds to your email
  14. Basic wording (you will vs you would)
  15. Body language
  16. Intro to other team members
  17. Tour
  18. Towards the end of the interview conversation turns more casual
  19. The team sets clear expectations on when you should expect to hear back about next steps
  20. Interviewer ties your specific experience to how it could be helpful in the role
  21. Company offers to pay for flight for an interview
  22. The good bye (see you soon, when we talk again, etc)

02 May 2019Comparing The Different Job Posting Sites / Job Boards 00:08:40

There are a lot of different job sites out there but a few that are being used frequently

LinkedIn

  • Aggregate
  • Roughly 500 million users
  • About 250 active monthly users
  • This is probably a recruiters biggest go to site
  • You can display your information
  • You can turn on job alerts
  • For the popular roles, a very busy site

Indeed

  • Aggregate
  • Rough estimate is about 250 million users
  • Will have similar job search results as LinkedIn
  • Usually better for a job seeker vs a recruiter
  • Not where most of the recruiters are playing

ZipRecruiter

  • About 7 million users from what I have researched
  • Affordable
  • Don't see a ton of really large companies using
  • Overall not very impressed to be honest

Glassdoor

  • Roughly 32 million users
  • Little big more expensive
  • Little bit less popular on the recruiter side
  • Has all the reviews right there

Social Media Profiles

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Update your personal accounts with your job, company, location, etc.
  • Becoming more and more popular for recruiters to use

Niche websites

  • Do your research to find the popular ones

20 Feb 2020Red Flags To Watch Out For When Interviewing 00:14:50

It is a major let down and really discouraging to be excited to start a new job, just to actually start and realize it's awful.

Red flags:

  1. Lack of follow up from the team (recruiter, hiring manager, other team members)
  2. People not providing straight answers to your questions
  3. Lack of transparency
  4. Resistance to you meeting with other team members
  5. Negative tone of people you interview with
  6. Sense of over worked employees
  7. Company doesn't have a large online presence
  8. Mostly negative online reviews for the organization
  9. Pressure to accept the job on the spot
  10. Unable to see offices (if not all remote company)
  11. All the things are absolutely chaotic

17 Aug 2020How To Deal With Bullies At Work00:15:18

People generally are talking bad about others because of THEIR unresolved issues, it's rarely about you!

Bullies in general are terrible.

Work bullies feel worse because we spend so much time at work.

Tips:

  1. Ask 'what makes you say that / feel that way / think that way'?
  2. Ask if there is anything you can answer for them
  3. Call the person out / call them in
  4. Why did you do X?
  5. When it makes sense, explain your reasons for taking a particular action
  6. Put boundaries in place
  7. Take note
  8. Talk to your leader
  9. Consult with HR
  10. Seek support, someone you can talk to
  11. Track your wins
  12. Time for a new role?
  13. Self care

11 Apr 2019Answering Your Questions 00:15:14

Here are the questions we are answering today:

  1. In your experience if the person you are recruiting for only has 60% of the job description but has overlapping skills that you can train, how much are willing to pay compared to market price?
  2. How to negotiate a salary with global firms when they have established a base in your country because they have business opportunities there?
  3. How likely are recruiters willing to issue visas to people from abroad?
  4. How do you weed out people who do not have the skills but blatantly lied during the interview process?
  5. How do I move from working as an engineer to a law clerk or paralegal without getting a law degree?
  6. How do to go from being a regular employee to a manager? What skills do I need to learn? And how do I avoid having to work for the same company for years?
  7. What basic skills do company owners typically need to learn?
  8. When your employer asks you to sign an unreasonable contract that is breaking the law but you want to work for them because they do interesting jobs, how do you reconcile with the decision?
  9. How to quit your job? When and how?

08 May 2017Does Your Resume Need A Makeover?00:13:15

Have you found yourself recently applying for a ton of jobs and you’re just not getting any callbacks or responses from your resume?

Or maybe you feel you’re just not getting enough traction or you feel like you’re spinning your wheels.

It’s really important when you are applying for jobs and you’re putting your resume out there, you make sure that your resume is the best it can be because while you may think your resume is great and has all the information it should have, you also have to think about the people who are looking at the resume. The recruiters and the hiring managers. And you want to make sure you are tailoring your resume to the right audience.

6 questions you should be asking yourself to determine whether or not your resume needs a makeover:

1) Do you have an objective on your resume?

2) Are the skills you have listed specific to you and your career search?

3) Does your resume have a ton of paragraphs?

4) Do you have your full contact information on your resume?

5) The experience I have listed on my resume, is it relevant?

6) Do you have references listed on your resume?

05 Jun 2017How To Maximize Your Annual / Performance Review00:14:07

Have you ever wondered what you could be doing better when it comes to your annual review?

The first thing I want to make sure we are on the same page about when it comes to your annual review or performance review or whatever your company is calling it, is that it is a two way conversation. It’s not just one person doing all the talking.

I also want to prepare you to hear both positive as well as negative feedback.

There are 4 topics we are going to be talking about as it relates to your annual review.

1) Ask questions

2) Aligning with your manager

3) The money

4) Growth

03 Aug 2020Sexism In The Workplace00:11:56

Sexism is complete BS. It shouldn't happen. And it does.

19 Dec 2019Finally Landed Your Dream Job … and It’s a Nightmare - What To Do00:14:10

It's not unheard of to get what you think is your dream job and you realize it's not great.

Or worse, you hate it.

If you've been here for a hot minute you know I'm an advocate for people being happy in their jobs and careers.

What to do if you've found yourself in this situation:

  • Take a deep breath
  • Try and find the positive
  • Find the disconnect
  • Chat with your manager / leader
  • Figure out if whatever you don't like is permanent or temporary
  • What enticed you to take the job?
  • Is there anything that could make you happy with your current situation?
  • How long has it been?
  • Soooooo nothing is perfect. Are you being realistic?
  • Are your expectations realistic?
  • Is it the job that sucks or the environment?
  • Do you just need a vacay?

What you can do to possibly avoid this situation in the future:

  • Be thorough in the interview process
  • Be honest when you're interviewing
  • Look at reviews online
  • Is there anyone in your network that has worked for the organization?
  • Do a social media search

19 Mar 2020Too Eager To Say YES!00:08:54

You're interviewing, things are going well, you're getting excited. It's a great company, it's a great team. Everything looks good, everything sounds good. You get an offer.

BEFORE taking a second to think about it, you say yes, sign, start your background check and are off to the races!!

NOT a bad thing AT ALL if you did your due diligence.

If you did that, amazing! Congratulations!!

If you didn't thats ok too!

If you haven't started yet, ask to talk to your future manager to get some questions answered. If they are benefits related HR / recruiting might be the best contact.

If you have started you can still ask your questions, good opportunity would be in your 1:1 with your manager.

Due diligence points:

  1. Culture fit
  2. Mission of company
  3. Team goals
  4. Individual goals
  5. Team member
  6. How does your group work together
  7. Typical day / week / year
  8. What's your impact
  9. Leadership style
  10. Biggest challenges to you when you first start
  11. Projects
  12. Growth opportunities
  13. Where did the person go who had the job before you
  14. Does the role align to your passion / purpose
  15. Internet research
  16. Know anyone who works there, has worked there or interviewed with them?

If you'd like an episode on how to interview a potential employer for culture check out the episode released on 1/9/2020

20 Feb 2017The 4 Main Types Of Resumes00:09:56

Episode Summary:

Ever been curious just how many types of resumes there are out there?

And which one should you use?

What is best to highlight your experience?

One of the questions you want to ask yourself when you are trying to figure out which type of resume you want to use, is what do I want to highlight and what do I want to stand out the most?

What I mean by that is when someone takes that first glance at your resume, they look at it, what do you want their eyes to go to?

Do you want your skills to be displayed first? Do you want your experience to pop out?

This isn’t necessarily what’s the first line at the tope of the page.

There are 4 main types of resumes out there.

1) The chronological resume

2) The functional resume

3) The combination resume

4) Job specific of targeted resume
