He shares with us his experience of moving around Ontario and his journey through post-secondary which eventually lead him to finding his passion. Failure is a part of the process, and the girls reflect on the failures that were apart of their journeys. Qua also shares how in final years at Algoma they lost in the second round of OCAA Provincials. Losing in sports is heart wrenching, but in those moments they both agree that failure is really success if we learn from it. It might not have meant winning provincially or nationally the next year, but it did mean learning how to overcome adversities. In this episode of the #CallHerAuntyPodcast, Grace & Qua give a review of treaty rights and the purpose of a land acknowledgement as they perceive it. Land acknowledgements were a term sprouted from the 94 Calls to Action. The Truth and Reconciliation Report was released in 2015 where the commission published 94 calls to action urging all levels of government (federal, provincial, and territorial) to work together to correct policies to heal the harm caused by residential schools. The report included calls to action for different industries and then began the land acknowledgement statements at hockey games and other settings where it is deemed shallow. The #CallHerAuntyPodcast continues to celebrate Black History month and in this episode we have our Cree and Trinidadian relative, Tasha Spillet! Tasha is an author, educator, mother and soon to be doctor. The #CallHerAuntPodcast wants to acknowledge this and ask our listeners to talk, listen and share their locations with trusted persons. In this episode we share how we first learned about the crisis in Turtle Island. We also talk about what we were like as 10 year old girls and what advice we'd give to our younger self.
