15 Nov 2023Elevate Your Leadership: Recognizing the Right Moments for Growth with Mustafa Ammar00:43:24

Think about how long you'll be working in your life. You should enjoy what you do because it makes you a more energetic and enthusiastic leader.

I'm excited to introduce our special guest, Mustafa Ammar. He's from Egypt, and he's traveled all over the world and is fluent in seven languages! Just like me, he thinks of himself as a global citizen.

Mustafa helps people make smart career moves. In other words, he's an expert at making your job feel less like work. Your job should be something that makes you happy and adds value to your company. If your job makes you tired and unhappy, it's harder to be successful.

Mustafa has changed careers many times, and he can give you the tools to make your next career move easier and less stressful.

He's been successful in many different fields, like pharmacy, working as a diplomat in China and Malawi, and in a big bank. Through it all, he focused on living his dream life, not the life others expected from him. He wants to help you make those big career changes, so you can follow your passions with confidence.

In his company called "The Passion MBA," they have a step-by-step plan for people who want to change careers, and they guide you, so you don't take big risks in your career change.

Welcome to Business Excellence for Managers, where we dive into the strategies and insights that empower leaders to create high-performing, resilient teams. Today, we’re exploring one of the greatest challenges facing modern managers: burnout.

I’m joined by two distinguished experts who bring a wealth of research and practical knowledge on this topic: Professor Yevgen Bogodistov from MCI - The Entrepreneurial School in Innsbruck, Austria, and Professor Jürgen Moormann from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management in Germany.

Professor Bogodistov is a Full Professor of Strategic Management and Organizational Behavior whose research focuses on burnout, resilience, and how management decisions impact employee well-being. Professor Moormann, who has nearly three decades of experience at the Frankfurt School, is a specialist in process management and its impact on organizational culture. As the head of the “ProcessLab” research team, he has published extensively on digital transformation and the balance between efficiency and employee satisfaction, particularly in the high-stakes world of finance.

In today’s episode, Yevgen and Jürgen help us unpack the causes of burnout from a management perspective. We’ll discuss how leaders can identify burnout risks early, balance job demands with resources and create a workplace culture that promotes both productivity and employee health.

04 Apr 2023Four Simple Steps to Reduce Resistance with Juan Steigerwald00:13:39

Today, I'm thrilled to tell you about the 4 steps I applied to get everyone on board and reduce resistance every time I started a new initiative or program in the organization.

This is something I’ve done repeatedly for global Lean Six Sigma initiatives, Continuous Improvement program, Innovation Program, Quality Initiative, CSR program, Business Excellence and more.

No matter what kind of initiative or program you develop, there is always an easy road and a bumpy road. It would be a shame to take the bumpy road because you do not want to waste time, resources, and money.

On top of that, there is the aspect of employee motivation.

If we constantly take the bumpy road and have a lot of resistance from different areas of the organization, we will be forcing our way through, and when the program is deployed, everyone will be glad it's over and will already be frightened when the next initiative comes around the corner.

That's why you need to make sure you do each implementation as good as possible, taking the less bumpy road to success. This way everyone will associate your ideas, project and programs with positive emotions that are linked to positive outcomes.

I invite you to listen to the 4 steps to reduce resistance in your organization anytime you plan to make a change or implement a new initiative. In case you already have a running initiative, and you are facing some resistance, then I am sure you will also be able to adopt some of the principles, so you can make it even more successful.

03 May 2023Achieving Business Excellence: Insights and Deployment Tips from Focus & Flow CEO, Hakan Seyhan00:35:38

In this podcast episode, I have the pleasure to present you an amazing guest from Germany.

His name is Hakan Seyhan. We met many years ago, during the days when I was working as Chief Quality Officer at a large multinational corporation and Hakan was working as a Senior Manager & Master Black Belt at a prominent Lean Six Sigma consulting firm in Germany. He helped me implement Business Excellence and was a trainer and coach for more than 100 people in the company covering nearly a dozen business entities.

In year 2021 he established a successful consulting company in Germany called, Focus & Flow, where he is a General Manager. My company, WAVE-Business Excellence Footprint and Hakan´s company, Focus & Flow, cooperate closely together and complement each other, because my clients focus on digital training experience. If my customers need live training or workshops in their location, Hakan and his team are there to provide outstanding support. Today we covered the topics of “what is the definition of Business Excellence”. We spoke about the maturity degree of a program and what are the most common mistakes when introducing a new initiative. During the conversation, Hakan explained the necessary steps to prevent any initiative from losing momentum. He also shared his success in combining LSS with Agile, also known as SCRUM method. Towards the end of our conversation, he describes best practices from companies that have effectively implemented a Business Excellence program.

Timestamps:

[02:52] Question: After so many years in consulting, you have seen many Business Excellence initiatives. From your perspective, what is the best definition of “Business Excellence”?

[06:32] Question: How does a manager measure the maturity degree of their Business Excellence program?

[09:34] Question: What are the most common mistakes you have seen companies make when they start a business excellence initiative?

[13:21] Question: Sometimes, when a company rolls out a new initiative, it could go for a few years until it loses momentum. In your opinion, what can be done to avoid losing momentum? How do they keep the spark alive over the many years of the program?

[16:10] Question: Lean and Six Sigma methods have been around for many years, and we have seen many benefits and transformations across various industries. The Agile/SCRUM method has been wildly discussed for several years. I've heard that you use the best of each of these methods. How do you combine LSS and Agile and do you have an example?

[20:53] Question: If a CEO of a company is open to starting a business excellence program tomorrow and would be open to implementing some of your suggestions, what would be the first things you would advise them?

[23:55] Question: Without using any company or client names, please give us an example of a company that has done a good deployment.

[27:26] Question: What were the measurable outcomes? How were they able to calculate the ROI?

[30:25] Question: Tell us a bit about Focus & Flow, your mission and vision for the future.

31 May 2023Who should I train and how many should I train under the Business Excellence program? with Juan Steigerwald00:28:24

One of the frequently asked questions I receive from managers is: Who should I train when I want to start a Business Excellence initiative? This query can arise from a person who already has a program running or is considering starting one. Prepare to be surprised by some of the answers!

In this episode, I will provide you with numerous strategies for selecting the ideal candidates for your program.

And that's not all! I've also included three freebies to enhance your journey:

1)     Action Plan

2)     The Modular Development Plan for Employees and Managers (link available to download as a freebie)

3)     Trainee Selection Template (link available to download as a freebie) 3 Freebies "Who Should I Train and How Many?"

I will also provide you with 10 fundamental questions you need to ask yourself when selecting the right people.

Furthermore, I discussed the 7 do´s and the 5 don´ts when it comes to selecting your trainees.

A common question that arises is: How many should I train and is there a limit to the number of people that should be trained? Finding the answer was not an easy task, but after numerous deployments, I have discovered the precise "tipping point." There are specific certification levels and training types where a limit exists on the number of people that should be trained. If we exceed this limit, it will not be ideal for the organization.

Enjoy this episode and gain valuable insights!

19 Apr 2023Five Key Elements to be Amazing at Change Management with Juan Steigerwald00:15:52

Today´s podcast is about change management.

You have probably heard about the quote that goes: “The only thing that does not change is change.” Everything and everyone is evolving. Customer expectations are constantly changing. Therefore, we need to be vigilant to these changes and adapt our processes and the skills of our employees to match the new expectations. Let's look back 5 years. Are we doing the same things at work today as we did 5 years ago? Probably not 😊.

In this world of constant change, we are faced with the need to manage all these changes and at the same time try to reduce the resistance coming from employees. Whenever we want to implement a new standard, a new rule, adjust a process or change a team structure, we should use change management techniques, so we can make it an easier task to fulfill. This also applies, when a person leaves the team or when a new person joins the team, when managing a new company initiative or simply sponsoring a project, we should always apply change management techniques.

In this episode, I am going to walk you through the 5 key elements you need, to be good at change management.

After listening to this podcast, you can evaluate how good you are doing each of these 5 elements. It is always good to make a self-evaluation. I will also explain what kind of negative results you might see in your area of responsibility if you do not score well in those 5 elements.
