00:32:57
In this episode of The Building Freedom podcast, Randy shares a story of a client of his that was able to add an extra $65,000 to an estimate because he finally understood the true costs associated with his business. His proposal ended up still getting accepted which means he is actually going to make a profit off this job.
Randy then goes on to talk about the concept of, “it's not what you do in the business, it’s how you do it”, this quote refers to all the aspects of running the business aside from getting the work done in the field. 01:02:08
In this episode of The Building Freedom podcast, Randy and his guest Tommy Mello talk about the insane growth that Tommy’s business has had over the last few years and the plan moving forward. Tommy talks about the major impact it had on the rate of growth in his business when he decided to start sharing equity with his high-level executives, “they are starting to sprint whereas before, they might have been walking because they didn’t have any skin in the game”- Tommy Mello.
Later Tommy and Randy talk about how critical it is to the success of the business that you put together the right team of people that can take care of the business as if it were their own.
For the remainder of the podcast, Tommy and Randy talk about the client acquisition machine and how important it is to have systems and processes in your business that make acquiring new clients seamlessly.
Tommy Mello is the owner of A1 Garage Door Service. He went from $50k in debt to owning a $74 million dollar home service business and just like every other entrepreneur, he started by doing everything himself from sales and marketing to accounting and hiring. Along the way, he learned that it didn’t have to be that way and he could get his business to where he wanted it to be, all he had to do was work smarter and build a strong team of people dedicated to achieving the vision of what he knew the company could become. So to give back and help other business owners in the home service industry, he created a podcast called “The Home Service Expert”. Tommy is also the author of the book “ Home Service Millionaire” and a lifelong learner.

First, he touches on the concept of profit before growth which basically means making sure the business is profitable before trying to grow it.

At the end of the day, the success of your business or the lack of success of your business is all built around trust or lack of trust. In this episode of The Building Freedom podcast, Randy discusses the top 10 reasons why systems are so critical to have in our businesses! We like to look at our business as a boat. If your goal is to get across the ocean you can never get there if you have a leaky boat. The leaky boat is what causes you the problems since you’re constantly trying to scoop the water out of the boat and keep up with the day-to-day as opposed to getting to the next level and working on your business.
There are so many systems that we need in our business to be tight, effective, efficient, & profitable to be running a well-oiled machine. Each of these 10 reasons has to be focused on if we are ever going to fix our boat. The boat will continue to leak if you don’t get your systems dialed in!

In this episode of The Building Freedom podcast, Randy speaks with Logan Shinholser the founder and CEO of Contractor Growth Network.
Coming from a family of entrepreneurs and being the son of a pond contractor, the art of business was built into the fiber of Logan’s being. Having never intended to go into business and construction, Logan pursued a degree in chemical engineering under an athletic scholarship at Virginia Tech. A star athlete, he was shy away from making the US Olympic Team, and he even eyed a spot in the US Navy Seals. Downtrodden with failing to pass the navy’s program, he set his eyes on a game he knows best and blended well with his love being the center of attention – work, and business.
Eventually, he founded Contractor Growth Network which to this day has been making an impact on the lives of small contractors. Inspired by his experience being the son of a busy contractor, Logan, through CGN, has given other contractors a program that would allow them to earn and spend more time with their families — a system that would have helped his own father have time to be his own family. From unrelenting passion, CGN has expanded into a million-dollar company and has received several accolades for success in business and for improving their client’s businesses.
Randy and Logan go on to discuss marketing strategies for builders and remodelers and the use of videos in your marketing. If you’re not leveraging the use of videos today you’re missing a big component in your marketing strategy!

Selling Through Storytelling (feat. Kyle Hedin - The Floor Academy Podcast)
00:44:30
In this episode of The Building Freedom Podcast, Randy speaks to Kyle Hedin, host of The Floor Academy Podcast, about selling through storytelling.
With a degree in digital filmmaking and video production, Kyle Hedin is not a likely fit in the flooring industry. However, after evaluating his skillset in June of 2015, he decided flooring was a great option. With a passion for wood working as a teen, Kyle cold called 30 contractors in his area asking for a job as an apprentice. Two companies got back to him, and after a stint at both, he was out on his own by September 2017.
While still very new and needing to learn, Hedin discovered an online community of installers on Facebook that helped him grow his hand skills. What he did notice was that not many of them understood the business side of things. In 2019 the Floor Academy Podcast was born to help craftsmen stop playing contractor and to become businessmen. Each episode is an interview with an expert in the flooring industry or their related field to provide insights into how to grow your business, save you time, and put more money in your pocket.

She has an exemplary method of collaboratively working with clients to identify the issues/problems important to them. With a balance of listening and understanding, Brianne advocates tailored solution choices that are converted into actions for implementation. Very quickly, Brianne earns her place as their trusted advisor.
It's important to have a relationship with your accountant or CPA, it's more than just dropping off your taxes at the year-end time. A good CPA will schedule regular meetings maybe quarterly and get together with you as well as drop-ins to discuss issues that happen on a daily basis. Talking regularly to your accountant keeps them in the loop of what might be keeping you up at night that they can help you strategically make a plan to move forward but in an informed way. Accountants give you a different perspective that maybe you didn't consider. The best accountant you can have is when you can call them to work through it.
Randy realized after a few years in business that the lawyer, accountant, and financial planner should all work in unison on his behalf for a rounded approach to planning. Having a great relationship with all 3 is essential for them being able to advise you properly, they need to know and understand your vision and the bigger picture.
Why use a holding company, what's its value? To understand holdco you need to understand the risk in the construction industry, think about projects you’ve made a lot of money on and its sitting in your account, then you get sued for something that happened on that job. They could get access to that cash. So what Brianne does is remove that accessing cash and move it to the new company aka the holding company so it provides a bit of a barrier for them to get that cash, it's all about mitigating risks. Ask your accountant about holding companies and if it could benefit you in any way.
Randy sees his financial team as an investment, not a cost, as they have definitely saved him more money, then it's actually cost, you need to look at ROI, and it's worth being proactive to protect your money for both you and your business. Having the setup of the right structure helps save you money in the long run.
There are many strategic byproducts as a result of being a part of a team, such as meeting new people, supplier relationships, etc. Brianne often hears you can never find good people, your accountant is a great source of a pool of people that they can connect you with.

Randy is a Serial Entrepreneur, leadership and delegation master. He has been fortunate enough to become a #1 International Best-Selling Author on Amazon. And is a father, friend, and trusted ally to many. He has a passion for business and has achieved many accomplishments throughout his journey of being an entrepreneur.
Randy's goal and mission in life are to pass on to others the same proven methods, tools, and strategies that I had to learn the hard way.
In this episode, he talks to Dean Jackson. Real estate coach and Internet marketer Dean Jackson has figured out the secret to successful syndication. He has spent his career finding innovative strategies on how to achieve and experience success, as well as create the ultimate lifestyle, and has applied these concepts to many different industries and markets simply by replicating his original formula. He has his own podcast 'I Love Marketing' with Joe Polish and has written many successful books such as DNA Breakthrough.
Dean discusses how he helped Tony Robbins enter the internet marketing world in the mid-2000s and Tony went full immersion and put together a dream team of marketing pro’s to do a deep dive on how this all applies and it eventually developed into the series “The New Money Masters program”
The Joy of Procrastination is a podcast featuring Dean and Dan Sullivan, which is coming up on their 100th episode. Where Dean talks procrastination, and Dan Sullivan was sharing that it's a great way of organizing your priorities. Dean says the problem is we are looking at our actions as nouns instead of as verbs, as an example your objective is to do a sales presentation the thing you're putting on your todo list is “Do a Sales Presentation” the strategy Dean uses is to write it as a verb or action “Brainstorm Sales Presentation” because it lessens the resistance to starting. You have now broken it down into actions. And even if you give yourself just 10 minutes to brainstorm, some action items come out of that, and it's an immediate way to bust out of procrastination.
Randy suggests chunking your projects down into small actions so that it's not so overwhelming and you're less likely to procrastinate. Once you realize there is an endless supply of items on your list, brainstorming can help you create actions. And as your brainstorming, you may find out that there are some things in that bigger item that you don't know how to do. So that brings us to focus on “who” can help us get that item done, rather than “how”
Finding people to accomplish your how’s also frees you up as the entrepreneur to focus on the bigger picture items and allows for someone who is most likely better at the How to get it done more effectively, efficiently and properly then you would have done it in the first place. Which in turn helps you become more profitable, especially if all your time is only spent earning revenue.
Dean uses the example of Kylie Jenner and how she became a billionaire in less than 3 years, the thing that is amazing about it is that she has a team of only 7 people. That is a testament to who not how to approach. The interesting comment Dean often hears is … “well that’s Kylie Jenner, she's not self-made...she had money, etc... but it misses the whole point” She is following the same playbook as other large companies who operate lean.

Mike is an entrepreneur, filmmaker, speaker, author and holds a patent in "Cross-Channel" Marketing Technology. He is the CEO, "Chief Disruptasaurus" and Founder of Traffic Geyser and Instant Customer. His products simplify marketing for tens of thousands of small businesses, authors, experts, speakers, coaches, consultants, and creative people worldwide.
His celebrity and bestselling author clients and friends include Paula Abdul, Tony Robbins, Tim Ferriss, Debbie Ford, John Assaraf from "The Secret", Brian Tracy, Jorge Cruise, Dan Kennedy, and Harvey MacKay.Mike's companies have produced seven consecutive online product launches with the largest grossing over $9.1 million dollars. He also generated over $3 million dollars in sales during a "direct to camera" live webcast.
Mike helps people create a personal brand that allows them to generate lots of money. Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos, and Opera are just some names that create an emotional reaction, all because they started from nothing and through building their success, built a personal brand that is known worldwide. Now if they get involved in a project their name automatically elevates the status of that project.
The truth about professional athletes is a lot of times they are only making money from one stream and this results in them having very little money after their professional carriers are over. The ones that escape this situation are the ones that leverage their personal brand and celebrity to transition into different markets and create multiple flows of income and attention. With attention shifting from TV and radio to podcast and radio audiences are getting more niche, you no longer need a massive following to generate business a small but engaged audience can be just as effective.
When you are building an audience there are three main things to focus on, Market, Message, and Medium. Market: Who is your ideal client. Message: What do they need to hear to trust you, like you and feel comfortable doing business with you. Medium: What platform is your audience consuming content on, is it through a podcast, books or social media? Where are they consuming content or entertainment?
Creating relationships with people that have a bigger audience than you and finding a way to add value to them and their audience will allow you an opportunity to expand your audience and create a win-win situation for both you and the influencer.
A book is one of the best ways to build credibility with and deliver your message to your ideal client in a way that attracts them to you rather than you having to go out and try to find them. If you can find out what a “perfect dream come true” looks like to your client, it will give you the ability to answer their questions that they have before they come up and effectively communicate your product in a way that resonates with your ideal client.
The biggest mistake that marketers make is that they try to project themselves all over their audience rather than finding out directly from a client what attracted them to the business in the first place and using that as the foundation of their marketing efforts moving forward. Giving people the sense and feeling that they belong to something greater than themselves is the value created by a personal brand.

Even Though You Can Do It All, Doesn't Mean You Should
00:37:28

Randy Stanbury Owner of 4 Level Coach Ltd and Lucas Munn Owner of Gencorp Homes discuss how everyone has fears, Randy quotes Dan Sullivan’s famous line, at some point, everyone wets their pants, there are just those that go forward with wet pants.
Lucas talks about where he was 4 months ago compared to now. He was questioning if he wanted to expand his business fast or with too many people. He quickly realized you can't properly grow and scale without putting the right people in place. Lucas had a massive mindset shift, in that some jobs he had originally expected to do himself for the first few years, he is now thinking how to get these done without his involvement. Lucas was going to do all the bookkeeping, and after doing a few he realized he's not good at that….he realized he's good at meeting new clients and sales. He let go and allowed someone else to do that, who is also an expert in that area.
Randy often hears entrepreneurs say “well I can do the bookkeeping, if I hire someone to do it, that will just be an added cost, I'll make time at night or on the weekends, etc” but the reality is your probably not good at it, and there are so many other vital aspect of your business that your time is so much more valuable to be spent on those items. You need to know the priorities of your business that at 4 Level Coach we call vitals, these are the items that are needle movers, aka - actions that are going to drive sales, or results in some area, that makes a big impact.
Lucas reflects on what he wasn't doing at the beginning, one example he uses is his sales client package, which he never really had time for before.
Randy discusses how sometimes entrepreneurs will tell themselves that they don't want to grow quickly as a mechanism to protect themselves from failure, it's almost like a way to convince yourself that growth is not what you want, so if you don't get it, you are not failing in any way.
Randy discusses the importance of desire, how it is critical in any business. You need a reason to get up in the morning and feel like it's not a chore. To live with passion is much easier than to do something you are not passionate about.

An Entrepreneurial Community And Why It's Important
00:43:19
In this episode, Randy talks with Jim Kaloutas. Jim is an entrepreneur that doesn’t stop learning and growing. This has led to continually grow his business over the last 30+ years. Jim continues to invest in his learning but more importantly invests in his team of people at Kaloutas Painting. Jim believes that if he does a great job caring for his employees, they will do a great job taking care of our clients.
Kaloutas Painting is one of the leading commercial painting and industrial flooring companies in New England, with headquarters in Peabody, MA, and additional locations in Stoughton, MA, Worcester, MA, Nashua, NH, and Providence, RI.
They discuss why entrepreneurship can cause loneliness at the top. It is though you are the big fish in a small town, therefore, it’s important to get around entrepreneurs and people playing the game at the highest level.
As an entrepreneur even though the earning potential of our earning once we make it to a certain level because we get comfortable and stop believing that we can do anymore. When you are apart of a Mastermind group that’s full of business owners, it allows you the ability to think bigger just from being surrounded by people just like you that are doing more than you. It gives you the confidence that “if they can do it, so can you”. It’s important to be proactive about seeking out the challenges facing your clients before they ever realize they have them and provide a solution to those problems to those problems included in your service as a way to separate yourself from the competition. Conversations create opportunities. The more intent full conversations we can be apart of the more opportunities we can create for ourselves and others.
They discuss why you need to get crystal clear on the vitals in your business, the things that move the needle and take immediate action on improving those things as soon as possible. The first place that every entrepreneur needs to start from when investing in themselves is desire! Strengthening your desire is essential to making sure you have the perseverance to break through the struggles of entrepreneurship. When you look at the service side of the business there’s a whole nother level where you can put some kind of a commission structure in place that rewards your workers for also becoming salespeople. For example, if you have a plumbing business, your plumbers can upsell your clients on additional services that they might need.
Ethics in entrepreneurship is super important because some times we come across opportunities that would be very profitable for us if we took advantage of another person’s bad situation, but having your values in place allows you to see that there is more value created from helping that person get out of that situation than taking advantage of them. This line of ethics almost always ensures that you get more in return than you asked for.

In this episode, Randy talks with Mark Levesque. Mark is head of sales and client development at Webrunner Media. At Webrunner, they believe there’s a better way for home improvement contractors to market their services online. A less chaotic, more reliable way to generate quality leads that allow for sustained growth over the long term. They’re obsessively passionate about it, and it led them to develop a marketing system made exclusively for contractors so that they can spend less time worrying about leads and more time booking jobs and delivering great work.
In this episode you can expect to hear:
When Webrunner started they did not have any intentions of being a contractor focused marketing agency, they worked with anyone they could get their hands on, but they noticed that the contracting world was where they had the biggest impact and decided to niche down and really focus in on that.
The one to many marketing strategy is based around finding the one type of client that could lead to other opportunities to do business with.
One of the most critical things we go over when we start talking about marketing is knowing your avatar ( your ideal client ). This allows you to spend your marketing dollars more effectively because you can speak directly to them.
Webrunner provides a service that can help you niche down your marketing efforts.
Anything that’s not inline with the bigger vision is simply a distraction.
There are a whole bunch of marketing metrics that some business owners pay a lot of attention to that don’t move the needle in their business like how many likes on Facebook, your reach, impressions, and clicks. All of those metrics mean nothing to the growth of your business.
The metrics that do matter are cost per client acquisition for every individual campaign.
When you’re looking at the cost of acquisition another really important thing to consider is the lifetime value of a client because if you have a really good system in place that allows you to acquire long term relationships with your clients it’s less scary to spend more money on trying to acquire clients because you know you can keep them.
As a business owner when you’re focused on managing upset instead of creating a wow experience for your clients it dramatically reduces your ability to create a “WOW” experience for your clients and that drastically reduces the lifetime value of your clients.
Be there for your potential clients every step of the buying process even before they ever spend money with you.
“When a client feels like you understand their problems better than they do that’s when trust is built”

In this episode, Randy talks with Todd Macalister. Todd is the CEO and co-founder of Fountain Life alongside Bob Harary, Peter Diamandis and Tony Robin. Fountain life is discovering and developing treatments for aging-associated diseases. They have built a transformative model of aging that re-creates many of the complex hallmark features of aging but in a laboratory dish. They are combining this powerful cellular model with the latest in artificial intelligence and computer vision to develop a disruptive unbiased platform for the identification of novel targets and potential therapeutics. We work toward our vision of a future in which we extend healthy lifespan and slow aging itself
As an entrepreneur in the construction industry, you physically work hard day in and day out. Typically, it’s only a matter of time before the industry’s physical effects limit your career earning potential.
What you can expect to hear in this episode:
Fountain very simply put is an aging and longevity company that is trying not only to improve their client’s lifespan but also to improve their healthspan.
The work that Todd and his team do is looking to give you back 5 years of still being able to earn an income and enjoy a longer healthier life.
Fountain takes a proactive approach to slowing the effects of aging rather than a reactive approach, like most of its competitors.
One of the cornerstones of Fountains business is early and broad diagnostics that prescreen clients to find any unexpected illnesses so they can be taken care of immediately.
An early start and getting educated on the options that are out there for reducing the effects of aging is the equivalent to starting to save for retirement at age 35 rather than at age 55.
The fundamental things you can be doing today to change the trajectory of the rate of your aging is something that we all already know we should be doing and that is eating better and exercising, of all the anti-aging tools out there, that one is still the most effective.
Proper sleep is also a massive component that gets overlooked. As entrepreneurs, we pride ourselves on burning the midnight oil and functioning on very little sleep, the science is showing how more and more that actually reduces your lifespan.
From an evolutionary standpoint, we are wired to get short-term rewards for the things that harm our body most whereas the rewards for the actions that move us in the right direction tend to have longer-term rewards and that’s why it’s so hard to break bad habits.
Fountain utilizes this same technique to give their users short-term gratification on the actions that will ultimately yield long term health rewards as well.

In this episode, Randy talks with Scott Donnell. Scott has 10 years of experience building over 80 consumer products. His first company, Apex Leadership Co, has 115 franchises and serves over 3 million customers. Scott brings expertise in tech, web dev, product design, manufacturing and marketing to Hapbee. One of Scott’s first encounters with entrepreneurship was selling bead geckos in the 3rd grade to his friends and neighbors. He got suspended for hiring all of my friends at recess to make an inventory. To this day Scott’s favorite part of running a business is working with his amazing team throughout the country and creating a great corporate culture
Scott and I uncover a lot more gems that can give you the freedom you are looking for in your professional and personal life.
What you can expect to hear in this episode:
Hapbee has recently licensed technology from Emulate Technologies that originally took over 80 million dollars to develop and was designed to be able to listen to frequencies on a subatomic level, it can record electromagnetic waves as small as ten to the negative fifteen teslas of sensitivity.
The navy actually uses the same technology to listen for nuclear sobs.
Scott had a few friends in the medical field that were very familiar with the technology he partnered with them to create Hapbee and use the technology to better the lives of the everyday consumer.
The Hapbee tool is able to mimic certain radio waves to make you feel however you want to feel.
The Hapbee headband can also be used as an experience enhancer, for example, you can heighten the feeling you get when you are having a drink there for allowing you to drink less and have a better time doing it.
Scott was originally going to do a soft lunch with only his family and friend in an attempt to raise capital to take the Hapbee technology to the masses but was pleasantly surprised that on the first day, they sold over 500 units instead of 50 due to a post from Dave Sullivan about how great the Hapbee headband is.
Because of the unbelievable effect that the Hapbee headband has on people a lot of nonbelievers arose and started a movement claiming that everything Scott claims about Hapbee is fake even though they have never tried it.
There are so many different applications for this technology so Scott is currently looking for other partners to help him enter other industries to see how far they can take this thing.

How The 'One To Many' Strategy Can Double Your Contracting Business
00:43:44
In this episode, Randy talks with Jon TenBrinke. Jon is a co-founder of Black Jack Contracting, he’s been in the game since high school. He spent his junior and senior years doing two things: playing football and taking the first steps to becoming an electrician. After graduating he began his apprenticeship, got his license at the age of 24 there for making him the youngest master electrician in Ontario’s history. After 7 years of running this electrical contracting business, the opportunity presented itself to get into the general contracting game and for the past 3 years, he’s been doing just that.
What you can expect to hear in this episode:
Jon co-founded BlackJack Contracting on a bet, that he made with his friend, interestingly enough that’s how the company got its name.
Jon started his first business (the electrical business) at the young age of 25 because he got annoyed at how his previous boss was running the show. At the time Jon set the record or being the youngest master electrician in Ontario so he had lots of confidence in his ability to do the work but was in for a big surprise on how difficult it was to run a successful business.
After the initial struggles that Jon faced in starting his electrical business, he transferred what he learned into the creation of Black Jack, as a result, he made far fewer mistakes but still found himself having tax issues and accounting problems because there was still so much he didn’t know.
Despite not knowing all the ins and outs of the business side of things the company continued to grow solely because of the great quality of work that Jon and his team were doing.
When Jon came to the realization that in order to take the business to the place he wanted to take it he would need to get a better understanding of how the business side of things worked so he dove deep into books, podcasts and any content he could get his hands on about business.
After his first session with Randy, he walked away with the “One To Many” strategies that basically says “ find the one type client that leads to many other opportunities for future business”. In Jon’s case that was Realestate investors.
Jon took this one strategy and ran with it, by his next session 6 weeks later he had sold $700,000 worth of new business.
Jon immediately niched down the company to the point where they only work with real estate investors.
Once Jon let go of the fear of missing out on the revenue he could get if he served non-investors as well he found that everything became a lot easier, his marketing spends dropped to almost nothing and his business was growing faster then ever, simply because the marketplace now recognized him as an expert.
One of the biggest struggles we run into as entrepreneurs is not being able to let go and delegate tasks to others because “no one can do it as well as we can”. One we get over that way of thinking more often than not we find that others can do a much better job than us because they don’t have a million other things they need to be doing. Currently, that’s what Jon is working on within his business and he’s seeing a massive improvement in his happiness and the time he gets to spend with is family.

In this episode, Randy talks with Aaron Boland. Aaron Boland is a Co-owner of Expert Plumbing and Drains, he has over 20 years of plumbing experience. He was born in Dublin Ireland and eight years ago he decided to make the move to Canada due to a decline in the Ireland economy. He is the industry standard that reaches far above the norm. Expert Plumbing & Drains provide their customers with the most comprehensive full-service plumbing at affordable and fair pricing. They arrive on-time to your home or business and are fully equipped with the latest technology and professional plumbing knowledge to get the job done right. With years of experience, they can diagnose any problem and perform the plumbing service you require, including emergency plumbing, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
What you can expect to hear in this episode:
When he first arrived in Canada he lost is plumbing license because what he didn’t realize was, just because he was a plumber in Ireland didn’t make him a plumber in Canada and that was a big punch to the gut.
Aaron had to start all over again and make the jump from industrial plumbing to residential plumbing and now he is extremely skilled at both.
How a business culture is created really makes a difference in the field because when there’s a strong culture the employees feel a sense of ownership and make sure they do good work to positively represent their company.
Aaron and Randy built the company culture with the intention of always going above and beyond for their clients even if it cost them a little more money.
Honesty and fairness are some of Aaron’s foundational principles and that kind of mindset is instilled deep within the company culture.
A lot of times in the plumbing industry people tend to cut corners and blame others for their shortcomings Aaron and his team, on the other hand, takes responsibility for getting the job done no matter what, even if it means going outside the scope of what they’re getting paid for.
Another big thing that is apart of the EP&D culture is speaking up when you see something wrong, it works as a great way to create transparency with both employees and clients.
Developing a great client experience is a great way for any company to increase client satisfaction and referrals.
Most trades are too busy managing upset because they are stuck working in the business that they never get to see how they can create a great client experience, and that cost them more than they will ever know.

In this episode, Randy talks with Zoey Tayler. Zoey is a marketer who loves helping businesses get noticed and found by their ideal clients. At Intrigue Media, they specialize in working with businesses that are going after the homeowner with generating quality leads on a consistent basis. In the community, she is a committee member with the Women In Industry group with the West End Home Builders Association, on the membership committee for the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, and on the marketing committee for the Citizens for Cambridge group.
What you can expect to hear in this episode:
Intrigue Media is a full-service digital marketing company that focuses exclusively on businesses that go after the homeowner.
Since Intrigue Media has been around for about 12 years working in one specific industry they have mastered and field-tested methods of producing results in their niche, that has proven to be a valuable resource for their clients.
One of the biggest contributors to intrigue media’s success is the fact that even though they can do a bunch of different things for different industries, they chose to niche down and become experts at doing one thing really well for one group of people.
One roadblock that Intrigue usually faces when starting out with a new client is that they often have way too broad of a focus rather than targeting their best clients, they want to target everyone and this more often than not will lead to poor results.
Now that COVID -19 is upon us it's a great time for business owners to focus on figuring out who their ideal clients are and creating content that speaks directly to them so that their business can survive through these uncertain times and thrive once things go back to normal.
Even if you don’t have the money to pay professionals to create content for you, there are tons of free resources like Youtube that can teach you how to do it yourself the way the professionals do.
The thing with content creation is that one piece of content can be repackaged into many different forms, for example, a video can be converted into a podcast that can then be transcribed into a blog post that can be used to create multiple social media posts, and so on.
An area of marketing that is often overlooked by a lot of businesses is building an email list that will help them get in front of their past, present and future clients in a more personal way that adds value to their clients.

The year 2020 started off with thought leaders tossing around clever analogies about seeing further, 20/20 vision, getting clarity and it all sounded so great until 2020 became the year of the pandemic. Suddenly, business owners and entrepreneurs had to abandon their “vision boards” in exchange for ways to survive this economic downturn. The 2020 pandemic may be a first for most people, but it’s not the first time in history that the economy has struggled. The unfortunate reality is during those times, some businesses will fail, some businesses survive, and some businesses THRIVE! In this episode, Randy Stanbury, CEO, and Founder of 4 Level Coach, reveals brilliant ideas to THRIVE through the pandemic and not just survive.
What you can expect to hear in this episode:
With COVID-19 going on Jim has had do change up the way he does things in his business because a lot of construction sites have been shut down so now his company is only operating at about 60%.
COVID-19 has forced them to improve the communication of the team to make sure everyone has the right information and equipment to stop the spread and still get the job done at a high level.
With all the challenges that COVID-19 brings we have to be nimble and able to pivot when necessary.
Now is not a time to reinvent yourself and try to take on another trade because that will only lead to wasted resources, now is the time to conserve cash and focus on taking actions that increase gross profits because without gross profit the business has no lifeline.
Jim and his team are taking the time now to pick up the phones and get in touch with their clients so they can figure out what the client wants and needs right now, this ensures that their time and resources are spent in the right place and not wasted.
With the inevitability of COVID-19 thinning out the competition Jim and his team have positioned themselves to not only survive this pandemic but to come out on top when it’s all said and done.
Jim has devised a way to capitalize on the uncertainty of the COVID -19 situation whereas his competitors are letting good people go since he is using this as an opportunity to pick up new talent that can help take the company to the next level once this thing is done.
This is the time to start planting seeds when it comes to our marketing because even though we might not see immediate results if we don’t plant those seeds now we won’t see any results later.
Building out a proper way to train your people at this time is a great use of time now because with everything slowing down it gives a great opportunity to connect with employees to teach them how to properly do their job.

In this episode, Randy talks with Ken Sommer. Ken has spent the past 20+ years in the new home building industry. He acquired the skills of his trade from a long lineage of family members who have spent the majority of their lives dedicated to handcrafting well-built homes. Ken began his career as a framer, working alongside his father and brother on many different types of residential and commercial projects throughout Southwestern Ontario. At a young age, Ken discovered his passion for homes that illustrated strong building science methods along with innovative designs; which inspired his creation of Shirecrest Homes Inc. in 2004
What you can expect to hear in this episode:
Ken started out as a framer and learned the skills of the trade from his father and brother.
Before founding Shirecrest Homes Ken started a framing company in 2001 because that’s what he knew best.
Ken was forced off the tools due to an injury, this made him focus more on the business side of things and his business absolutely started to take off once he made the transition.
At first, it was a bit challenging to hand over the ring to his employees but he realized that even though they don’t do everything exactly as he would do, they needed to be able to make mistakes and learn from them.
The fact that Ken started out with a friend that he trusted and was both skilled with the tools and a leader made the transition easier for him. To this day they meet up for breakfast every Monday to plan the next week.
When Ken Started Shirecrest Homes he leveraged the relationships that he had created in the framing business to make sure he always had good talent on his sites.
Ken focuses more on producing leaders then hiring managers because he understands the value of having people in place to train the next generation in the company culture rather than manage the day-to-day.
When it comes to hiring, Ken likes to hire characters and teach skills because he knows that skills are easy to build but finding people with good character is what’s going to help the business thrive.
In 2008 Ken started to get into ICF ( Insulated Concrete Forms ) because he saw it as a great product to bring under the Shirecrest roof, he just couldn’t find anyone to do it.
Logically if it's a great product and you can’t find anyone to do it, then there’s a niche so they trained their guys and hit the ground running.
“Do it right, do it honestly and people will come” this is a motto passed down from Ken’s father that really embodies the Shirecrest Homes culture.
When you put yourself in the client’s shoes and ask yourself “what would I expect if I was the client?” then going ahead and delivering a little more than that is how Ken creates wow for his clients rather than managing upset.

Recently I have been extremely focused on providing business owners and entrepreneurs with value. I have recognized that most business owners fall into one of three camps.
1) Those who are eager to make the most of every opportunity. 2) Those who are trying to hold the status quo. 3) Those who are afraid to move at all and are paralyzed by fear or unknowing.
My objective has been to provide insights and tools that can help a business owner who falls into any of those three camps and help them achieve their business and personal goals. I have provided articles, podcasts, and created Facebook Groups, all centered around the idea of helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses and earn freedom in their personal and professional lives.
In this episode, I tell you all about a well kept secret formula for the perfect execution of goals. I call this, TheExecution Loop. Typically, this insight is reserved for 4 Level Coaching Clients, but I wanted to give any business owner or entrepreneur looking to grow their business a leg up on the competition.
What you can expect to hear:
1. Vision Test
If you want your business to grow, if you want freedom in your business, if you want to achieve any goal, you need to create and test a vision of yourself having already achieved those goals 2.Reverse Goals
A reverse goal is setting up your goals from the vision backward. We use the term reverse goal because we have to start with the endpoint in mind and work backward from there. 3. Forward Plan
This step is oftentimes one that a lot of people try to skip. I have seen it with my own coaching clients, other business owners, and have even been tempted to do it myself. However, I can promise you that if you skip this step, there’ll be a lot of problems that will come up for you.
4. BIG Action
Emphasis on this step is BIG. You may be taking action toward your vision now. I want you to take BIG, giant, action toward your vision. This step is where the entrepreneur in you gets to show off
5. Schedule Repeat
This is the secret sauce of The Execution Loop. Scheduling a repeat of steps one through four each week is essential to maintaining momentum and correcting your course.

In this episode, Randy talks with Brian Younge. Brian is the President and Founder of Home Painters Toronto, a leading painting contractor in the Greater Toronto Area since 1991. He is very passionate about the painting industry and dedicates a good portion of his time educating clients on various aspects of it, so they can make better, more informed decisions when wanting to better their most prized investment, their homes. Brian is also in hot demand for his views on entrepreneurship and business. He’s been recently featured in many publications including Entrepreneur.com, allBusiness.com, Small Biz Trends, CRM Magazine, Business.com, The Globe and Mail, and various video interviews and podcasts.
Most business owners fall into one of two categories. They either understand the importance of metrics and tracking key information or they don’t. Even those that understand the importance of metrics, aren’t necessarily great at tracking them. Everything you are tracking, to how often you track it, is integral to get an accurate read of your business. Why is this so important? Well, to exponentially increase the size of your business, you have to understand your business inside and out. In this epsiode, Randy Stanbury, CEO and Founder of 4 Level Coach, explains why he believes measuring metrics is essential to developing a strong business. In Randy’s experience, having a deep understanding of your metrics will ultimately lead to personal and professional freedom. Randy invited Brian Young to discuss his approach to metrics and tracking.
What you can expect to hear:
Brian believes that as a CEO you always have to be differentiating yourself from the market with new products and services.
One of Brian's biggest focuses is what he calls as scorecards which simply refers to the vital metrics in his business.
In Marketing Brian only looks at two metrics, Leads and Sales because those are the only two metrics that directly relate to cash flow.
Once a company hits $1 million in revenue the CEO should have a good grasp on the key metrics of their business since there are so many moving parts at that point.
Every business owner needs to know their average job size, how many quotes they do, and how many they close. By knowing these metrics they can forecast what your revenue is going to be and make more informed decisions based on them.
Positive reviews are another metric that “Home Painters Toronto” keeps track of because they understand that the more positive reviews they have the easier it is to sell jobs at a higher pierce therefore making the company more profitable.
Another aspect that makes Home Painters Toronto so successful is the fact that they have a weekly meeting where the go over wins from the previous week and things they need to improve on going into the following week. This serves as an accountability tool for the management team as well as the crew leaders.
It took about 20-25 years for the company to get into the rhythm of doing their weekly meeting every week but once they started doing it consistently they have noticed a massive improvement in the communication and productivity of the company.
Now that the company has grown so big, Brian has noticed that his role in the company has changed to more leadership and empowerment than quoting and doing jobs.
And much much more!

Today we are talking about a franchisable business model. I'm sure you're wondering why would I want to franchise my business? "Randy, I'm not looking to do that!"
And I want to be clear, creating a franchisable model isn't always doing it with the mindset of franchising your business in the future.
This is to create a business that runs entirely on process and systems so that it can run as effectively and profitably as possible.
