May is now bilaterally bionic, or to quote the pop star Sia: “I am Titanium!” As our daughter said, “50 is now the new 80” and joint replacements are not a “last resort” medical procedure anymore. Thanks to advances in technology and Medicine, patients of all ages are getting joint replacements and regaining their quality of life. Can you believe May had a hip replacement one week ago and just recorded a podcast?! In 1992 when May had her ACL repaired, the standard of care was one week in a hospital bed! In 2023, you get to walk out of a surgery center hours after a major joint replacement! Technology and rehab has even changed again since her first hip replacement in 2016. We discuss some of the non-surgical alternative options and causes of joint deterioration other than old age. 17 Feb 2022 | #59: The Doctor As Patient: Migraine Warrior | 00:50:08
We are long overdue for another Doctor As Patient episode. I decided it would be perfect for me to share my own personal story and journey with migraine. Having been a lifelong migraine patient, it has impacted my life since I was 11 years old. I have tried to never let it define me, but living with a chronic illness certainly controls many aspects of your life. I have tried almost every therapeutic option/treatment and now am blessed to have found a game changing new medication that has given me my life back! Along the way I have also had huge empathy for my migraine patients - we suffer in a way that most people will never understand. I hope you enjoy this brief glimpse into my migraine life. There are many great online resources and support groups that I would recommend. As always -message me with any questions! And it’s a sign of a great marriage….so listen up! Can you guess? How many sports has Tim engaged in over the last 30 years ? What is May’s greatest fear? What is an ideal “date night”? It’s been way too long since our last Doctales! 08 Jul 2021 | #27: ICD WHAT??? : “A Doctales with Cocktails Episode” | 01:00:52
We know you’ve been waiting.. Yes, it's Doctales! ICD codes are the bane of a doctor’s life. We languish in our pain with the most absurd ICD-10 codes we have heard of. If it has happened, it exists as a billing code: walked into lamp post, sucked into jet engine, attacked by orca, problem with the in-laws? Yes these make their way into the insurance companies hands to process the cause of your visit. If you were injured at the opera house, ever had bizarre personal hygiene, had an accident with a land yacht… well it has been cataloged! This episode has been LONG overdue! We have missed laughing on a doctales and it’s been so refreshing to let loose today. Grab a cocktail, or just laugh along on your commute. Either way, laughter is the best medicine!! By the way, we are sipping on Ciroc! Iced Mango Ciroc with a splash of lemonade makes a great summer sipper. 12 Oct 2023 | #184: Inside the World of Primary Care - an interview of us by Parker Condit | 01:10:35
This episode is sponsored by PearsonRavitz– a friend and advocate for physicians with their insurance needs. This episode is an interview conducted by Parker Condit, CEO and Co-Founder of Moto Bio – a platform helping its members live healthy lives and make smarter decisions for themselves. We get to talk about being a couple who are both family practice physicians and discuss our transition from primary care to urgent care and the frustrations we experienced in the healthcare system. We talk about the increased focus on box ticking and metrics in the EMR, which led to a decline in patient care, including the lack of understanding from insurance companies and the implementation of laws by non-doctors. Additionally, we touch on the benefits of direct primary care and the importance of preventative care. Looking for something specific? Here you go! 00:02:02 Transition from primary care to urgent care due to frustrations with healthcare system. 00:08:19 Healthcare system is flawed. 00:10:29 Metrics and bureaucracy hinder patient care. 00:16:56 Lack of physician involvement in healthcare decisions. 00:21:19 Lifestyle factors are crucial for health. 00:25:01 Fear and cultural factors hinder innovation in medicine. 00:29:31 Influence of environment on lifestyle. 00:35:28 Find like-minded individuals, speak up. 00:40:44 Direct primary care is a cost-efficient, subscription-based model that offers unlimited access to physicians and higher quality care. 00:45:32 Direct primary care reduces patient load. 00:48:29 Interoperability and EMR challenges. 00:57:17 Leverage telehealth for coordination. 00:58:11 Leveraging knowledge through patient networking. 01:05:07 Healthcare is evolving, embrace change. 01:06:31 Leverage resources for better health.
About Parker Condit: Parker Condit is CEO and co-founder of Modo Bio and is obsessed with increasing access to holistic, patient-centered healthcare. And that’s putting it lightly. His interest in health and wellness began in early adulthood when he began a career in personal training. During this time, he successfully helped professional athletes optimize their performance, and non-professionals improve their overall physical health. In conversation with his clients, he realized how siloed traditional medical practitioners were from providers in the mental health, fitness, and integrative medicine spaces; spaces that can help physicians prevent disease in their patients, not just treat it. He, along with his business partner Jack, decided to find a solution to this problem and Modo Bio was born. Since mid-2022, Parker has led Modo Bio’s transformation from a brick-and-mortar integrative health clinic into the dynamic remote patient monitoring digital platform it is today. He is responsible for overseeing all areas of Modo Bio’s business operations in addition to fundraising and building meaningful partnerships with physicians, health systems, and stakeholders. Parker currently lives in Arizona where he spends his free time running and spending time with his dog Max, his best friend and the unofficial mascot of Modo Bio. Connect with him here.

28 Jan 2021 | #4: Doctales with Cocktails: The Covidiot Awards | 00:48:45
In our first cocktails with doctales segment, we're discussing a certain topic that gives us a reason to drink… Covidiots. We're handing out awards for the dumbest Covidiots that made us laugh or just stunned us. Everyone is trying to with what information we know. There has been good advice, bad advice, and wrong advice, so why not try to find some grace and humor out of this situation we’re in? We’re not just talking about people who call masks tyranny! Dr. Faucci warned early on in the pandemic that letting people wear masks is more likely to give them a false sense of security, and we’re baffled how some people seem to think this mask is a personal force-field! We also use this as a teaching opportunity to help encourage you all to use a little more common sense when wearing your mask. So if you need to let off some steam with us, feel free to make a Vodka Gimlet and join us for some laughs. By the way, you're here… and we love you. 17 Mar 2022 | #63: Fear Is No Excuse: with Eddie Braun | 01:21:27
Want to hear from one of the greatest stuntmen of all time sharing his thoughts on “safety”? Tim is man crushing & fanboying out on this week's epic interview with stuntman Eddie Braun. Eddie’s life is an example that “fear is no excuse”. He will be the first to tell you that recklessness is different from planned risk. Doing great things is not necessarily about risk, but having the skills to manage your fears. People are often unable to live their dreams, because they are too busy living their fears. About Eddie Braun: Eddie is not only a stuntman but also a stunt actor and stunt coordinator. His career inspiration and childhood hero was the famous Evil Knievel. In 2016, in full circle fashion, Eddie completed Knievel’s failed attempt and became the only man to ever jump across Idaho’s Snake River Canyon in a rocket. The documentary of his signature stunt has been released on Disney Plus: Stuntman. Eddie is known for endless action credits from the 80’s until now. He has appeared in Dukes of Hazzard, The Fall Guy, Magnum P.I. to films such as The Avengers, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Moneyball, Rush Hour 2. He has doubled for Charlie Sheen, Lee Majors and Chuck Norris and more. 09 Feb 2023 | #110: Air, Water, Food and Sleep (Part 2: Life Like Jake) | 01:26:44
Welcome to PART 2 of Life Like Jake where we continue from last weeks’ interview. Our guest is Jake Thomas, a self professed “ex” and recovered junkie, drunkard, super-consumer of everything and everyone that would take him away from reality. Now he is the founder of LIFE LIKE JAKE and is coaching people via his elite mindset training program. This week Jake walks us through his coaching mindset. The pillars and foundation he believes are needed to obtain a healthy and sustainable life. We cover the basics of life: air, water, food and sleep. We touch on how the kings of ancient wisdom are known for following some basic principles that are eternally effective: long walks, fasting and introspection. Jake is a firm believer in the power of the subconscious mind, principle over pleasure and a life of discipline via subtraction. And how can we not go down the rabbit hole of diet!!? He shares his experience as a vegan competitive bodybuilder versus switching to Carnivore based living. Listen to his success story and how he describes becoming the mentor for himself that he never had. Jake is coaching others to be the best they can be, helping people climb their own mountain of struggles with his guidance to the top! More about Jake Thomas: Originally from New Orleans, Jake Thomas served in the United States Marine Corp from 2003-2007. After he left the military, he did a 5 year stint working as a bartender. From there his career took a few different paths, including working as a Drilling Fluids Engineer for an oil company to Marketing Director of a furniture company in Mexico. He then attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, graduating Summa Cum Laude, Salutatorian with a Bachelor of Science in International Trade & Marketing. He has a Master of Business for Veterans (MBV) from the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business. He also holds multiple state Real Estate Licenses. Jake has competed in bodybuilding and physique competitions and in true badass Marine form, has run a 3:30 marathon “dry”, without any fluids or food. In 2017 he founded LIFE LIKE JAKE, an elite mindset training program that puts candidates through a rigorous unplugging to rewire their thought processes and understandings of the world as they see it, and of life itself. 14 Aug 2023 | #158: RERUN - The Road to Hell is Paved with Percocet | 00:50:05
Sponsored by: New Leaf Hyperbaric and Wellness Oxygen Therapy In this reaired episode, Tim and May delve into the alarming history of one of the greatest blunders in the realm of medicine: the widespread overprescribing of opioids. The catastrophic journey began with a seemingly innocuous five-sentence letter published in the New England Journal of Medicine back in 1980. Little did anyone know that this brief letter would be cited a staggering 608 times in medical literature, wrongly advocating for the safety of opiate prescription. The hosts meticulously trace the evolution of opioids, exploring both their historical context and the gradual normalization of their medical use. A critical turning point was the misinterpretation of data, which triggered a cascade of detrimental consequences. The medical establishment, pharmaceutical companies, and regulatory bodies fell victim to groupthink, unknowingly perpetuating a series of major falsehoods:
As Tim and May navigate this sobering narrative, they share a lighter side as well, chuckling at past and recent advertisements that promoted these harmful substances. From the days of "mother's little helper" cough syrup to the more recent tagline "One to start with and one to stay with" for OxyContin, the absurdity of these marketing campaigns is evident. The duo also highlight the ironic concept of "pain as the fifth vital sign," revealing how the opiate journey unfolded and contributed to this unsettling notion. Through their engaging discussion, Tim and May paint a vivid picture of how a series of miscalculations, misinformation, and misguided beliefs led to the opioid crisis, resulting in the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives. This reaired episode serves as a reminder of the imperative role critical thinking and a thorough understanding of historical context play in shaping medical practices and policies. Our Advice! 05 Jun 2023 | #131: Pre-Gaming and New Segments on Doctales with Cocktails | 00:42:42
In last week’s Doctales with Cocktails, May offers useful tips for travelers to ensure a comfortable journey. She recommends taking melatonin to aid sleep in noisy or unfamiliar environments and carrying pain medication, such as anti-inflammatory or Tylenol, in case of discomfort or pain. The episode also discusses the book, Unoffendable by Brant Hansen, a book with a Christian perspective that argues that humans do not have the right to righteous anger, only God does. The host reflects on how he used to believe in the power of righteous anger, but now understands the importance of not living in anger and instead seeking peace. Overall, the episode emphasizes the idea that the highest calling of a warrior, or someone fighting for justice, is love rather than anger or vengeance. May and Tim introduce two new segments in this episode, "medical history" and "book club." In the "book club" segment, they discuss books they've read and recommend to their listeners. They express their love for reading and welcome recommendations for books related to medicine or ones that contain sound wisdom and advice. They also encourage listeners to share any interesting medical history they may have heard about. In the "medical history" segment, May and Tim discuss the story of Claude Beck, who was nominated for the Nobel prize in 1947 for being the first person to successfully defibrillate someone, which had a significant impact on the world of medicine. The hosts also discuss the challenges of finding information on niche medical topics, with many rare diseases being dominated by pharmaceutical companies. They suggest searching for medical journals and using specific search terms to find reliable information. 05 Aug 2021 | #31: “We Are The Prey” with Dr Peter Breggin | 00:44:36
Welcome back for Part 2 of our interview with Dr. Peter Breggin , the “Conscience of Psychiatry”. We pick up from last week’s show in our discussion on the history of psychiatric treatment reform, to the parallels with public and social control during Covid. Today we dive into the basis of his new book- Covid 19 and the Global Predators We discuss the big picture with the events before and during the Covid 19 worldwide pandemic and the international intertwining of big power. Is the response to Covid 19 based on science and acts of goodwill towards mankind? Or is it really a responsive action by predatory capitalists not letting a black swan event go to waste? Listen to his summary and decide for yourself! Peter R. Breggin MD is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist and former Consultant at NIMH who has been called “The Conscience of Psychiatry” for his many decades of successful efforts to reform the mental health field. His work provides the foundation for modern criticism of psychiatric diagnoses and drugs, and leads the way in promoting more caring and effective therapies. His research and educational projects have brought about major changes in the FDA-approved Full Prescribing Information or labels for dozens of antipsychotic and antidepressant drugs. He continues to educate the public and professions about the tragic psychiatric drugging of America’s children. As a medical-legal expert, Dr. Breggin has unprecedented and unique knowledge about how the pharmaceutical industry too often commits fraud in researching and marketing psychiatric drugs. He has testified many times in malpractice, product liability and criminal cases, often in relation to adverse drug effects and more occasionally electroshock and psychosurgery. During the 1970s Dr. Breggin began his reform work by organizing an international campaign to stop the resurgence of lobotomy and other psychosurgery. He was a huge advocate and voice for the ending of psychosurgery which led to the creation of the International Center for the Study of Psychiatry and Psychology. Dr. Breggin has authored dozens of scientific articles and more than twenty books, including medical books and the bestsellers Toxic Psychiatry and Talking Back to Prozac. Two more recent books are Medication Madness: The Role of Psychiatric Drugs in Cases of Violence, Suicide and Crime and Psychiatric Drug Withdrawal: A Guide for Prescribers, Therapists, Patients and their Families. His most recent book is Guilt, Shame and Anxiety: Understanding and Overcoming Negative Emotions. As a medical-legal expert, Dr. Breggin has unprecedented and unique knowledge about how the pharmaceutical industry too often commits fraud in researching and marketing psychiatric drugs. 26 Oct 2023 | #190: De-Adrenalizing and Understanding Trauma with Dr. David Bonanno | 01:17:56
This episode is sponsored by PearsonRavitz– an agency dedicated to supporting physicians on their journey to getting the right insurance. Our next guest is a Connecticut psychologist and PTSD survivor, Dr. David Bonanno, who has developed a groundbreaking therapy for trauma psychology that challenges conventional methods used in allopathic medicine. This episode revolves around the potential impact of redefining and destigmatizing conditions like "being adrenalized" compared to traditional PTSD. The main question is how this change might influence individuals in seeking help and treatment for their symptoms. This suggests that a shift in terminology and perception could encourage more people to acknowledge their symptoms and seek assistance without the fear of judgment or reluctance commonly associated with the term PTSD. Looking for something specific? Here you go 00:03:00 PTSD and chronic stress similarities. 00:08:01 Adrenaline can be pathological. 00:14:09 Trauma therapy can help heal. 00:21:05 PTSD is different from anxiety. 00:21:34 PTSD is not easily overcome. 00:28:56 Unplugging and social connection are important for mental health. 00:32:46 Social connection is crucial. 00:39:33 Rewriting trauma can heal. 00:44:56 Rapid healing through subconscious work. 00:51:54. Changing the narrative heals trauma. 00:56:38 Cat brain controls human behavior. 01:01:30 Cannabis can help with PTSD. 01:03:45 Cannabis strains can target specific symptoms. 01:08:55 Understanding limits helps with PTSD. Bio: Dr. Bonanno is the Freshest, Boldest Voice in Trauma Psychology today. And he has developed a dynamite therapy that is better than all the rest. Almost everyone who promises a way to get past your past has a method that involves time, money, work, and pain and everything else thrown against the wall as a “cure” for life’s hardships. PTSD has been the biggest topic in Psychology for 10+ years now. Because that’s what therapists still cannot heal. David Bonanno is a Connecticut psychologist and PTSD survivor who has been helping people since 1993. He is the first person in America to begin to qualify patients for Medical Marijuana by evaluating them for PTSD. His company, Bonanno Mental Healthcare, has assisted over 16,000 needy people in gaining access to medicine that is much better than pharmaceuticals. Dr. Bonanno is the inventor of De-Adrenalizing, a revolutionary and rapidly-growing therapy that heals sufferers of all psychological traumas, and the author of Your Brain is a Robocat: How to Finally Understand Your Trauma Response. This book is easy to read but will transform the reader’s conceptualization of how the human brain functions before and after trauma. When people are finally able to understand themselves, they no longer have to blame and hate themselves. Our Advice! Everything in this podcast is for educational purposes only. Not only is he humble and gracious but very wise and passionate about helping and treating our PATIENTS first! Aside from being an expert, he TREATS Covid patients and is also a Covid survivor. Dr. McCullough is a practicing internist and cardiologist and Professor of Medicine at Texas A & M College of Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, and clinical lipidology. He also has a Master of Public Health from University of Michigan School of Public Health. He cares for advanced patients with common medical problems including heart and kidney disease, lipid disorders, and diabetes. Dr. McCullough has broadly published on a range of topics in medicine with > 1000 publications and > 600 citations in the National Library of Medicine. His works have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, Lancet, British Medical Journal and other top-tier journals worldwide. He is the editor-in-chief of Cardiorenal Medicine, Reviews in Cardiovascular Medicine, and senior associate editor of the American Journal of Cardiology. On November 19, 2020, Dr. McCullough testified in the US Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs concerning early ambulatory treatment of high-risk patients with COVID-19. He has appeared on news outlets and is passionate about spreading the word about treatment. Today we discuss evidence based treatments of Covid-19 , best practices to avoid hospitalizations and death plus what resources we have. He believes it is immoral, unethical and bordering on illegal to advise NO TREATMENT of outpatients who have Covid-19. The focus has been on PPE, lockdown and isolation as well as treating only hospitalized patients. Forgotten are the patients caught in the middle. We can’t just be passive doing nothing to prevent hospitalizations! It is therapeutic nihilism! While the FDA is a regulatory body, NIH is a research organization and the CDC is a public health organization- none of these organizations give guidelines and put the onus on physicians to figure out how to treat their patients. Remember physicians, we work for the patient! 26 May 2022 | #73: Patriots from Pandemics! | 01:15:49
The past few years of pandemic laden lockdowns, deaths, regulations and experimental medication controversy seems to have unleashed a fresh wave of American patriotism. Citizens in the US ( and those around the globe) have begun to question the national/international and local narrative. Covid has affected every aspect of people’s lives- kids have been forced out of schools, all of us dealt with massive changes in work/employment, and hello … restrictions on buying toilet paper! Our guest today, Marnie Lynn Boles, is a patriot extraordinaire! She is passionate about making it easy for all of us to unite and get involved! How so? It’s easy at The Patriot Impact! She has helped create a website that makes it easy to find events locally, post upcoming events for Patriots, and ways to get involved from a hometown to national level. Patriot Impact motto: We believe that Americans need to be reminded of what freedoms are in fact their God given unalienable rights here in this country. You need to be reminded what hundreds of thousands of American citizens have laid their lives down for. As Abraham Lincoln said at the Gettysburg Address, we are a, "Government of the people, by the people, for the people". If you are frustrated, you need to get involved in making a positive change in your circle of life. Change starts with you! And so, my fellow Americans: Ask not what your country can do for you– Ask what you can do for your country ~JFK! LINKS: The Patriot Impact: https://thepatriotimpact.com/ Our Advice! 30 Dec 2021 | #52: Eat Sh$t and Live! With Dr. Hazan | 01:09:54
You’ve heard all the jokes- what’s your poo telling you?, eat sh&t and die, you’re full of sh&t. Today we are going in deep and discussing how “eating” poo can actually save people! ( no they don’t really have to eat it, but it makes a great title!) Fecal microbiota transplant ( FMT) aka a stool transplant, is the process of transferring stool from a healthy patient into another individual. Currently in the USA, the only FDA approved use of this treatment is for C. difficile infections. It has been used experimentally to treat other GI diseases such as IBS, colitis, and even some neurological conditions like MS, Parkinsons and even autism. What is even more amazing, is that the 10,000 plus species of microorganisms in the GI tract make up a unique “microbiome” in each individual. There is huge diversity in the gut microbiome depending on diet, genetics, environment and overall health of the individual. Research is exploring the potential curative role of gut bacteria in various diseases. Our guest expert on this subject is Dr. Sabine Hazan, a Gastroenterologist and scientific researcher in the subject of FMT. She launched ProgenaBiome, a genetic sequencing research company dedicated to understanding the gut flora at the clinical level. Her book, “Let’s Talk Sh&t” is a fun, informative read for clinicians to lay people. The first woman ever accepted into the University of Florida as a Clinical Gastroenterology Fellow, Dr. Sabine Hazan is a pioneer in the medical field. Board certified in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Internal Medicine, Dr. Hazan has published articles in numerous prestigious medical journals, including theJournal of Duval County Medical Association and Gastroenterology, and won several awards, such as the Best Fellow Scientific Presentation and Dean’s Research Award awarded by University of Florida. In addition, Dr. Sabine Hazan is an acclaimed speaker and presented symposiums for influential medical organizations like the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Astra Merk, Inc. 30 Sep 2021 | #39: Follow the Science to Hell | 00:47:21
What does it really mean when we say follow the science? Believe it or not, this week is a Doctales with Cocktails episode- albeit a more sobering discussion over a fine, local whiskey. What a perfect episode to ponder over a tumbler of. Blue Line Unapologetic American Whiskey! This week we discuss some historical things done in the name of science. Specifically we dive into Eugenics, the science of “the day” for over 50 years. It became accepted by the scientific community and world elites, intellectuals and political leaders including Alexander Graham Bell, Winston Churchill, John Maynard Keynes, and Woodrow Wilson, to more notably Margaret Sanger and Adolf Hitler. The concept born in the late 1800’s believed that selective breeding of humans would breed away undesirable traits that contributed to a weaker, unhealthy society: feeblemindedness, criminality, birth defects and mental health issues for example. If you were in the ‘ELITE’ crowd, you were a Eugenicist. Fast forward to current societal and scientific struggles. What concepts or “group think” exist? Is following “the science” today’s pandemic the same thing? What about the labels associated with being anti/ pro vax, anti/pro climate change? We contend that while there are often many scientific truths and facts in these principles, we can get caught up in the debate without removing our own bias. What happens next is “the science” becomes political, and for many their politics is a natural extension into becoming their religion. Is Covid all about science or “scientism”? We believe there should be healthy debate which means allowing scientists to challenge one another to reach the truth. Shutting down opposing views and censorship only pushes the agenda of unilateral thinking. Ultimately those who only listen to one side are believers in dogma, not science. I definitely will drink to that! Cheers! Sponsor: Our sponsor this week is Deputy! You can use Deputy on any device, on the go. 17 Aug 2023 | #160: Reverse Diabetes with Keto! with Dr. Mariela Glandt | 01:17:58
We found a diamond in the rough world of Diabetes! Today's guest is Dr. Mariela Glandt an Endocrinologist and founder and CEO of OwnaHealth, an online consulting company aimed at reversing diabetes and helping patients ditch their drugs, especially the dreaded Insulin. After being approached by a best friend who confronted her on how “the medical system” seemed to be backwards in its dietary approach to managing Diabetes, Dr. Glandt reconsidered what she learned in Medical classes. After some hesitation, she became forward thinking enough to start using the principles of basic physiology and stop the perpetual cycle of using drugs over food and lifestyle modifications. Go figure! (and if you haven’t seen the South Park episode about flipping the food pyramid, don’t laugh but they actually were on to something!) As we perpetually see a continued rise in the obesity epidemic and the increasingly dangerous effects of Type 2 Diabetes and its complications, Dr. Glandt is helping her patients achieve MAJOR health changes, ditch their medications and achieve their amazing results with diet modifications- specifically LOW CARB diet. She expertly and simply explains to her patients and our listeners here, the mechanism by which Insulin is causing more inflammation and damage, and how to She admits she is a unicorn in her field but is hopeful the paradigm will soon shift. For those of you lucky enough to have found her here, check out her website and consider making a dramatic health and life change you won't regret. Shout out of the week! This week’s shout out goes to Donna M. P. who recently commented on one of our FB posts that she looks forward to our podcasts! 16 Dec 2021 | #50: Non Clinical Careers for Physicians | 00:56:27
What CAN a physician do other than prescribe your medications, perform exams on every orifice you have and cut and paste you back together with knives, nukes and robotics? Guess what? There is a whole world of other career options out there for those who are looking for a complete career change or just starting a new side gig. Dr. John Jurica joins us today to give us an overview of the options. I think he must have heard them all! He is a board-certified family physician who began doing nonclinical side jobs early in his career as UM physician advisor and occupational medicine medical director. In 2017, John started producing the weekly Physician Nonclinical Careers Podcast, where he presents interviews with physician entrepreneurs, medical directors, hospital executives, managers, coaches and other experts in physician career transition. His podcast was listed as a Feedspot Top 20 Physicians Podcasts You Must Follow in 2020 and 2021. In 2018, he created the Nonclinical Career Academy MemberClub (nonclinicalphysicians.com/joinnca), an online membership site with video courses designed to help physicians accelerate their career pivots. John and Dr. Tom Davis recently launched NewScript, an online community of healthcare professionals, career transition mentors, and wellness specialists helping each other live a better life. It is a private, uncensored, and ad-free space that incorporates a forum, daily posts, mentorship programs, online courses, livestream events and interviews with clinicians who have transitioned to a nontraditional career. 04 Nov 2024 | Ep321: The $11,000 Prayer Fine and a Brain-Dead Awakening: Only on Doctales | 00:44:31
—-- 👋 Please help us climb the podcast charts! Please find us on Apple Podcasts and review the show! We’ll shout you out in an upcoming episode, newsletter, or LIVE show. —- 👋 This Halloween edition of Doctales with Cocktails takes you on a journey through the strange and surreal, with Tim and May at their comedic best. From Iron Maiden-inspired intros to stories of seizure-detecting dogs, every tale brings laughter, shock, or a pause to ponder. The duo explores the outlandish idea of “skank-sensing” dogs, shares hilarious (and cringe-worthy) medical experiences, and dives into a chilling story of a British man fined $11,000 for praying silently. With a cocktail in hand, they unravel a case where a supposedly brain-dead man wakes up mid-surgery and riff on modern medical marvels, political quirks, and the mystery of brain death. Bold, bizarre, and unapologetically unfiltered, this episode serves up the perfect Halloween dose of laughter, thought, and spooky vibes. Our Advice! 25 May 2023 | #128: Physician, Green Beret, Whistleblower: with LTC (Ret.) Dr. Pete Chambers | 01:25:18
Covid vaccine mandates have infiltrated every facet of our country and the military is no exception. A “forced” retired military hero, Dr. Pete Chambers is our guest today who became a proclaimed ‘whistleblower’ by Senator Ron Johnson. Dr. Chambers was working as a physician and following military orders to provide informed consents for all vaccines administered to his patients, yet was ordered by his superiors to “disobey military orders” and stop giving informed consent to encourage increased vaccine compliance. Meanwhile, after seeing multiple rare medical events in normally healthy young service members he started to research the Defense Medical Epidemiological Database (DMED) and saw frightening changes. The government response to his report was……………. Well you will just have to listen to find out! WE were speechless. What an honor to interview Dr. Pete Chambers, who took time from his jam packed schedule and current crusade to help resolve issues at the US/Mexico border. Oh ya…. And he made May cry! So now you will FOR SURE want to tune in to this episode! About Dr. Pete Chambers: LTC (Ret.) Pete Chambers joined the army in 1983 and served for a career spanning 39 years. After his first Honorable Discharge he had a break in service to complete college and medical school at the University of New England. He completed a primary care residency and worked as an emergency room physician and was commissioned as a peace officer serving his community as a SWAT team physician and sheriff’s deputy. After the United States was attacked on 9/11, he returned to the US Army Special Forces. He is a graduate of the Special Forces Qualification Course, earning the Green Beret. He has multiple combat tours, deploying in the capacity of Special Operations Flight Surgeon and Green Beret officer conducting missions around the globe. His last two Stateside deployments in Texas were as a liaison to Governor Gregg Abbott’s TASK FORCE during the Texas COVID response (2020) and most recently he deployed to the border of South Texas on Operation Lone Star as a Task Force Surgeon. (2021). He retired from service at the end of May, 2022 after he was pulled off orders when his command ordered him to stop informed consents. He refused an UNLAWFUL ORDER. He was stripped of benefits and pay and forced into retirement. He is a combat decorated and disabled veteran and awarded the Purple Heart, for wounds received in combat. Until recently he had remained off the media grid, until he was revealed by Senator Ron Johnson as a “whistleblower” exposing facts related to the Defense Medical Epidemiology Database. He then joined forces with other frontline doctors to provide fidelity on safety issues regarding both civilian and military aviation safety. He has a passion for these Americans and for safety regarding the vaccine, as he himself is currently undergoing medical treatment for a severe adverse reaction to the vaccine. With regard to the COVID vaccine mandate in the military, he like countless others, trusted the DoD’s vaccination policy to be safe and effective until March of 2021 when he noted numerous ominous signs and adverse reactions being reported. He has testified as a fact witness in Liberty Counsel’s SEALs v. DoD case and has served as a liaison to Truth for Health Foundation with Dr Lee Vliet. With his newfound freedom of movement and his already established lines of communications with legislators he has become an outlet for still serving service members, elucidating members of congress and media outlets on vaccine injuries within the military ranks. 27 May 2021 | #21: Heroes and Zeros! (Covidiots Part 2): “ A Doctales with Cocktails Episode” | 01:03:09
Cheers to you if you are surviving the insanity wherever you live! The entire world is filled with the craziest rules, laws and regulations employed to “help” stop Covid-19. From forbidding sales of open toed shoes and short sleeve shirts in South Africa to “banning pillows on your Brazilian...flight that is! Canada has cracked down yet again with roadblocks and fines at “Covid check points”. Other countries have employed tracking bracelets- que the Hunger Games music. The world is truly a crazy place. Soooooo….would you roll in cow dung or drink urine if it meant you were protected from Covid? We are NOT kidding! Next we discuss the morality around vaccine incentives. You can get anything from free Krispy Kremes, free Uber rides, pot, handheld blenders, lottery tickets and ‘round the world plane tickets. State governments and Biden’s team are throwing carrots to the masses to reach their goal of 70% vaccination rates. Today we are drowning our disbelief with some tasty Peanut Butter Whiskey made by Skrewball Whiskey. Sipped over ice, this is a perfect aperitif that oozes with a nutty/caramel flavor. Plus we are toasting 29 years of wedded bliss. Thank you very much. Tune in to hear me pitch Tim some fastballs and curveballs of the most bizarre rules, treatments and incentives we have heard about. You decide: Strike or Ball? Winner or Loser? Hero or Zero?
