13 Jun 2024 | Aston Martin: The Underdogs of Le Mans (1959) | 00:40:38
The Simeone Museum in Philadelphia, PA is proud to present Le Mans 1959 The Underdog Champion, a demo day event celebrating the unlikely and impressive victory by a relatively small and underfunded Aston Martin team. At the time, the 24 hours of Le Mans was dominated by larger, highly financed organizations such as Ferrari and Jaguar, who had access to more advanced technology and greater resources. Despite this, Aston Martin managed to pull off a stunning upset victory at the 1959 race with their DBR1 piloted by drivers Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby. During this demo day, visitors had the chance to see three of the most popular cars in the museum in action, learn from the team of experts about their design and engineering, and discover more about the intense competition and challenges of Le Mans during the late 1950s. The featured exhibition included cars like the 1956 Jaguar D Type, 1958 Aston Martin DBR1, and the 1958 Ferrari 250 Testarossa. All car racing in the world, you could argue Le Mans is the biggest race in the world. Indy 500, that could be a challenge, but Le Mans, it's right at the top and it's certainly beyond any other sports car race, even though there are tremendous sports car races. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Le Mans 1959: The Underdog Champion 00:31 The Simeone Museum's Demo Day 01:34 The Significance of Le Mans 02:34 Technical Scrutineering of Classic Cars 03:49 Jaguar's Racing Legacy 07:27 Ferrari's Racing Prowess 11:41 Aston Martin's Quest for Victory 17:36 Sterling Moss and Racing Legends 20:55 Shelby's Rivalry with Ferrari 21:22 Maurice and Vincent Young's Legacy 22:30 Jaguar's Strategy and Performance 23:07 Ferrari's Strong Presence 24:12 Aston Martin's Efficient Team 26:46 The Le Mans Race Begins 28:42 Mid-Race Challenges and Strategies 34:07 Aston Martin's Victory 36:19 Post-Race Reflections and Future Plans 38:35 Closing Remarks and Museum Information==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

23 Apr 2024 | A view from behind the Microphones (Racing Announcers) | 01:45:24
Over the years I've become a real good spectator. But what appealed to me about racing from day one is the same stuff that appeals to me now. It's the whole visceral approach to racing. It's the image of the cars, both on the pace lap as they come around the grandstand, as well as flat out racing. And it was also that voice from above, the announcer, the guy who was telling me what was happening on the track, but probably equally as importantly, what was happening off the track, the fellow who was weaving this whole storyline for the balance of the day or the evening, whatever the case may be. We have with us tonight... Joe Morata, the voice of Syracuse for 44 years at Super Dirt Week. Roy Sova, with over 50 years at Oswego Speedway. Gary Montgomery, who for several years was one of the voices, on the Motor Racing Network. Mike Paz, who announced nine different NASCAR tracks over the years. Frank Del Vecchio, our racer turned announce, and last but certainly not least, Greg Rickes, the voice of Lime Rock. We don't have six good announcers up here… We have six great announcers up here! ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00:00 Meet the Panel of Racing Announcers 00:01:32 Personal Stories and Career Beginnings 00:09:17 Memorable Moments and Challenges 00:24:57 Approach to Announcing Races 00:34:48 Track Management and Career Challenges 00:35:49 Handling Tragedies as an Announcer 00:37:46 Dealing with Fatal Accidents 00:50:39 The Evolution of Racing 01:01:54 Favorite Tracks and Memorable Interviews 01:10:53 A Controversial Interview with Cagle 01:11:43 Memorable Interviews: The Good and the Bad 01:12:19 Corporate Interviews and Unexpected Encounters 01:13:54 Real Estate and Racing: A Unique Niche 01:14:50 The Most Fun Race Series 01:15:44 Best and Worst Interviews: A Retrospective 01:19:39 Hilarious and Embarrassing Moments 01:31:41 Exciting Last Laps and Race Battles 01:41:44 Closing Remarks and Acknowledgements==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

We get ideas and suggestions for show topics all the time, and recently someone asked us to revisit the idea of "purchasing your first classic car" - never looking to turn down an opportunity for a hearty debate, we said Challenge Accepted! – And you know what that means listeners… it’s time for another fan-favorite WHAT SHOULD I BUY? episode! And as our listeners know all WSIB’s have Shopping Criteria - but it unravels very quickly when you take into consideration all the different genres and eras of “collector cars” - Are we talking pre-war, post-war, muscle car, malaise era or something more modern? - so this begs the question “what exactly *IS* a collector car?” And with the help of our esteemed panel of guests we think we can solve this puzzle and come up with some great suggestions for the first time collector car buyer. 06 Sep 2022 | Breaking all the records... with Lyn St. James | 01:18:01
For many of us, our stories begin with amateur racing in SCCA, and our guest is no exception. Full time-secretary and piano teacher by day, by the age of 26 she moonlighted in racing behind the wheel of a Ford Pinto which doubled as her daily driver. Quickly moving up the ranks, she fought alongside names like Haywood, Stuck and Ribbs in Trans-Am and IMSA. She would take home titles in races like the 12 hours of Sebring, 24 hours of Rolex and 24 hours of the Nürburgring. In 1992, the mold wasn't just broken… it was shattered, and at the age of 45, proving that neither gender nor age matter in Motorsports - she entered the Indianapolis 500, earning the title rookie of the year. We are proud to welcome, the one and only, Lyn St. James to Break/Fix. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00:00 Meet Lyn St. James 00:01:37 Lyn's Early Racing Days 00:05:21 The Pinto Story 00:07:56 Ford Sponsorship and Racing Career 00:11:26 Transition to Professional Racing 00:16:32 Learning and Competing in IMSA and Trans Am 00:20:05 Challenges and Triumphs in Racing 00:30:42 The Road to Indy 00:37:52 Rookie of the Year and Early Challenges 00:38:14 Learning the Ropes at Indy 00:40:30 Breaking Speed Records 00:43:26 Life After Racing 00:46:52 Facing Sexism in Racing 00:53:36 The Evolution of Women in Motorsports 00:57:29 Advice for Aspiring Racers 01:04:33 Women in Motorsports North America 01:10:53 Final Thoughts and Reflections==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

25 Oct 2023 | TL:DR - What does Lord Grantham drive? The Cars of Downton Abbey. | 00:09:10
"He's nice. He likes cars, and he's mad about you. I rest my case." - says Tom Branson to Lady Mary about Henry Talbot. Initially, I figured… meh! - Downton Abbey is going to be some stuffy pre-war British soap drama, it’ll be just OK, I’ll give it an episode or two. But I found myself rather enamored by all aspects of it. The show has its moments of exaggerated drama and bits of upstairs/downstairs… but each episode is packed and feels like a separate movie and not a serial or episodic story. Oh yea, and there's lot of interesting cars in there too! It was a crisp autumn day when our guests' world came crashing down around him. To make matters worse, his heart had been broken by the woman he thought he was going to spend the rest of his life with. And that's when he decided to embark on a journey that would take him across the country on the back of his motorcycle. As he rode farther and farther west, something began to shift inside of him. 26 Mar 2025 | Literature Review on Women in Motorsports (Mike Stocz) | 00:28:07
While men have taken the lion’s share of media attention across motorsport, there have been women who would gain substantial coverages. From Brittany Force to Hailie Deegan, women in motorsport have hit sport headlines on various networks and modalities. While coverage of women in motorsport may be more positive, in terms of quantity and perception (driver talent versus overt sexism, etc.), has academia had any sort of focus on women in motorsport? The purpose of the current literature review is to summarize the current academic literature across two repositories (EBSCO Host & Google Scholar) to gain a broader understanding of this academic realm of inquiry. Various search term including Women in Racing and variants were included in the search. Initial results suggest that women in motorsport are often a part of academic research, but are less so the main focus. Using the PRISMA methodology, articles were selected from relevant criteria and reduced from a larger sample. Methods and themes from articles will be discussed. Mike Stocz is the assistant director for the department of kinesiology, and a senior lecturer of sport management & leadership at the University of New Hampshire. He is one of the founding members and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Motorsport Culture & History. Mike's recent works have included a co-authored book chapter about the future of Formula 1, as well as works surrounding big game hunting legislation on land preserves, an economic funding model for college athletics, and critiques on K-12 coaching certifications surrounding sexual assault. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Women in Motorsport: An Academic Review 00:43 Research Methodology and Criteria 01:42 Presentation Overview and Initial Thoughts 02:48 Historical Context and Current Participation 03:55 Systematic Review Process 05:10 Database Search and Results 11:20 Themes and Findings 17:26 Discussion and Future Research 20:49 Audience Q&A 25:28 Conclusion and Acknowledgements==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

13 Aug 2024 | What Should I Buy? - Porsches or Corvettes? (Part-2) | 01:47:32
When we talk about Porsche rivalries there’s always one that jumps immediately to the surface. Do you choose the technologically savvy space-aged Porsche 959 or the raw and exhilarating passion of the Ferrari F40? But for those of us “everyday enthusiasts” with more modest budgets those aren’t the kinds of cars we’re interested in collecting. Picking up from our previous What Should I Buy? episode, we looked at the Corvette as the natural rival to the 911 as “thee” every man’s sports car. And in this episode we’re going to focus on the 60 years of 911. We’re joined by Don Weberg (Wee-berg) from Garage Style Magazine, along with William “Big Money” Ross from the Exotic Car Marketplace, and Ryan Bahrke formerly of the Steering Committee Podcast, now part of the Road Show Pod, along with David Middleton former race engineer at the Nürburgring and president of MIE Racing. Then there’s Mark Shank, our resident ‘90s expert and defacto Bring a Trailer data cruncher. And like all What Should I Buy (WSIB) episodes… we have some shopping criteria. So get ready folks, it’s time to slick back your hair, press your paisley button down, lace up those oxfords and loosen up your checkbooks, because we’re shopping for 911s! 10 Mar 2023 | Blue Thunder & Black Widows: Freightliner's Avant-Garde Journey with a Runaway Cavalier | 01:26:15
Jon Summers is The Motoring Historian. He was a company car thrashing, technology sales rep that turned into a fairly inept sports bike rider. Hailing from California, he collects cars and bikes built with plenty of cheap and fast, and not much reliable. On his show, he gets together with various co-hosts to talk about new and old cars, driving, motorbikes, motor racing, and motoring travel. The conversation begins with Jon and his old friend, Mark, discussing show dynamics, the Tristram Shandy style, and the blurred nature of historical facts. They talk about personal anecdotes including fines at the airport, breakdowns while riding motorbikes, and experiences involving racing sponsors such as Boothy. The discussion also touches on various vehicles Jon has acquired or ridden, like a Yamaha Zuma, and concludes with musings on avant-garde collecting and thoughts on corporate influence in the classic car world. The segment is rich with detailed stories, car movie references, and reflections on the broader culture of motoring.

31 Oct 2024 | Superstitions & Bizarre Events in Motorsports | 00:27:05
Superstitions, both good and evil, common and rare, affect all classes of people and their place in life and have been passed along generation after generation. Auto racing, from its very beginning, is not immune from superstitions - many of which can be described as bizarre and are present in today’s auto racing world. Al Isselhard is a retired mechanical designer of test equipment for Eastman Kodak Co. and has enjoyed the automobile world in several capacities. He is a big super-modified race fan, collector of tired British sports cars, serious but non-professional race photographer, past crew member on a SCCA race team, race memorabilia and petrolania collector, retired road rallyist and a supporter of the IMRRC. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Introduction to Auto Racing Superstitions 01:59 Origins of Green Car Superstitions 06:09 The Number 13 and Other Unlucky Numbers 08:13 Peanut Shells and Racing Mishaps 10:31 Superstitions Around Photographs and Shaving 12:39 Drivers' Personal Superstitions and Rituals 15:23 Superstitions of Southern Drivers 15:35 Famous Drivers and Their Rituals 16:33 Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s Lucky Penny 17:19 Ted Horn's Superstitions and Legacy 18:53 The Clairvoyant's Prediction for François Sivert 21:03 Audience Q&A on Racing Superstitions 24:48 Sponsorship and Closing Remarks ==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

18 Apr 2023 | Why should I buy… a water-cooled Porsche? (Kevin Duffy) | 01:28:57
The last of the “cheap” Porsches – they were plentiful, and some had aggressive jack-knifed fender flares and others were more demure. They don’t have the panache of the 911 but that’s OK. Because these amazingly well-balanced front-mount rear-drive vehicles are what many would consider “a Driver’s Car” – something you jump in, don’t think twice about, but puts a smile on your face when exiting a corner on a back-road, autocross or race track. Tonight we’re chatting about the Porsche 924 & 944 - the 924 being originally designed by Porsche for Volkswagen and is the predecessor to it’s more famous younger sibling the 944. These vehicles spanned a 16 year production run from 1976 through 1992 before ultimately being replaced by the 968. And joining us for an in-depth conversation into one of my favorite Porsche’s is Kevin Duffy, noted 924/944 expert from 924S944.com to explain to us “Why we should buy… a water-cooled Porsche!” ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00:00 The Last of the Cheap Porsches 00:00:51 Porsche 924 and 944: A Deep Dive 00:01:43 Kevin Duffy's Journey with Porsches 00:04:56 The Evolution of the Porsche 924 and 944 00:05:23 Porsche vs. Volkswagen: The 924 Origins 00:11:40 The 944's Impact and Engineering 00:19:35 Buying and Restoring Porsches 00:38:39 Special Edition Porsches 00:45:27 Special Edition 924S: A Collector's Dream 00:45:57 Driving Adventures and Events 00:46:38 The Rarest of the Rare: 924 Carrera GT 00:47:22 Building Carrera GT Replicas 00:48:30 SCCA and Porsche Kit Cars 00:49:51 Engine Swaps: V8s and 1.8 Turbos 00:53:55 Floating Cylinder Design Explained 00:57:41 Volkswagen and Porsche Parts Compatibility 01:00:27 Market Prices and Buying Tips 01:06:51 DE and Racing with 924s and 944s 01:15:16 Future of 924 and 944 Ownership 01:19:24 Kevin Duffy's Services and Resources 01:23:42 Final Thoughts and Acknowledgements==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

17 Aug 2021 | eSports + STEM = MIE Racing (David L. Middleton) | 01:11:09
David L. Middleton, has always had a passion for Cars and Motorsports. As a child he became enamored with Porsche's and he never lost that passion. He declared to his parents from that young age that he wanted to one day work in the German Automotive industry. But getting there wasn’t easy. After attending MIT and majoring in Physics, he moved to Germany and tried to secure a job in the Automotive industry. He didn’t know the language or the people, but he had a dream. There were many days when he wanted to quit. There were many days where he wondered if all the hard work was worth it. His dream and vision seemed so far away, but he learned to persevere and kept going even when it hurt. So with little money but big dreams, he was determined to make it work, #sendit, and ended up landing a job with BOSCH. Today, David speaks fluent German and pushed beyond the day-to-day life of an ECU developer and was able to feed passion for motorsports becoming a Trackside Race Engineer at the Nürburgring. He and his family have returned stateside, and has started an organization called Middleton Innovative Education (aka MIE pronounced like pie) which is looking to revolutionize the way we teach and engage students in science, technology, engineering and math (aka STEM). 05 Sep 2023 | What Should I Buy? - Square Bodies & Round Headlights - The 80s! | 02:05:55
Heralded as one of the greatest decades in history… when greed was good, Jordache jeans were worn above the belly button, Hair stood on end with the aid of Aquanet, bands like Depeche Mode ushered in a new generation, a next generation of SciFi was born, and cars were seen as superheroes. This the only time where there is a juxtaposition of both analogue and digital while a generation of petrol heads were both living their best lives and early adopters simultaneously. The Malaise era might have been the start of the “square bodies and round headlights” movement, but the 1980s… oh the 80s! That was the era of MTV, Killer-Bs, Body Kits and a massive evolution in the automotive industry. Where arguably, some of the iconic cars of our generation were born and carry on through today. And like all What Should I Buy (WSIB) episodes… we have some shopping criteria. This time, we’re going to settle a long standing argument about “Hot Hatches.” What is the actual difference between a shooting brake, liftback, hatchback, wagon and a sports coupe? Our panel of petrol-heads are challenged to solve that mystery as well as find our “first time collector” the best econobox that will make their friends go “where’d you get that?” at the next Cars & Coffee. Picking up where we left off, the year is… 1983 and there is NO CORVETTE, but instead the world is introduced to GTI. Joining us tonight are veteran WSIB panelists… our 90’s expert Mark Shank, Don Weberg from Garage Style Magazine, William Ross from Exotic Car Marketplace, bowtie man and square body historian Mountain Man Dan, and returning guest Jeff Willis, along with our executive producer: Tania! ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00:00 Introduction to the Panel and the 80s Car Culture 00:01:16 Debating Hot Hatches and Body Styles 00:02:12 Personal Stories of 80s Car Ownership 00:05:14 Exploring Unique 80s Cars and Trucks 00:33:27 The French Car Invasion 00:39:00 Obscure 80s Cars and Hidden Gems 00:40:42 The ASC McLaren Capri and Mustang Evolution 00:41:39 Convertible Craze of the 80s 00:42:31 The Rise of Affordable Classics 00:42:43 The Iconic M81 Mustang 00:45:54 Audi's Experimental Era 00:48:40 The AMG Hammer and Other German Legends 00:55:45 American Muscle and Tuners 01:03:12 The Underrated 80s Sedans 01:11:52 Japanese Icons and Oddities 01:22:35 Nissan Maxima vs. Infinity Q45 01:23:06 The Power of the Q45 01:23:46 Nissan's Branding Challenge 01:25:08 Lexus SC 400 vs. SC 300 01:26:20 Toyota Century: The Ultimate Japanese Luxury 01:30:23 British Car Gems: TVR Tasmin and Austin Minis 01:32:46 Aston Martin's 80s Revival 01:33:33 Lotus Esprit: The 80s Supercar 01:36:53 The Quirky Saab 900 Turbo 01:44:52 BMW's Underrated Classics 01:51:41 Ford's Sleeper: The LTD LX 01:55:49 80s Car Wishlist: Final Thoughts ====================The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

24 Jan 2023 | Fuelin’ Around with Deadly Driver’s JK Kelly | 00:55:43
Jetting off to Monte Carlo…speeding through the tight turns of a mountain road en route to an evening at the casino…what could be more exhilarating? After racing in a grand prix, Bryce Winters boards a luxury yacht to bask in the limelight and mingle with celebrities, only to find a gun to his head… From the rolling hills of Vermont to some of the world’s most powerful cities, Winters is thrust into improbable adventure, riveting intrigue, and elusive romance. The question remains: can he navigate around the dead-ends in a maze of CIA manipulation and entrapment—or will he fall prey to the sinister forces of underworld intelligence? While studying journalism at Penn State University our guest traveled to auto races on weekends where he took photos he was able to sell to racing magazines. One of his editors suggested, “You’re taking the pictures so write the feature stories that go with them!” After a stint with the Darrell Waltrip, Gatorade #88, NASCAR team he spent the next thirty years traveling the world for VP Racing Fuels. But that passion for writing never left him. Following the advice of James Patterson who said “give readers what they want,” - six novels later, from his debut title FOUND IN TIME to his accounts on the road with VP in FUELIN’ AROUND through to his latest thriller DEADLY DRIVER, author J.K. Kelly has striven to do just that. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 JK's Early Life and Passion for Cars 01:29 From Journalism to Racing 06:11 Journey with VP Racing Fuels 11:22 Writing Career and Inspirations 17:18 The Making of Deadly Driver 25:32 Bryce Winters: The Formula One Super Spy 28:23 Bryce's Dilemma: Balancing Racing and Government Demands 29:04 A Heartbreak and a New Love Interest 29:29 Bryce's Humble Beginnings and Racing Heroes 30:35 The Unique American Formula One Driver 31:04 Bryce's Hidden Car Collection 32:58 The PRI Show and Bryce's Future in Racing 34:50 The Evolution of Motorsports and EVs 38:03 The Future of Racing and Bryce's Career 44:59 Deadly Driver: From Book to Screenplay 50:29 Final Thoughts and Recommendations ==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

11 Feb 2025 | Evening With A Legend: The Camoradi Corvette | 01:02:25
Tonight, we have an opportunity to bring a piece of Le Mans to you, sharing in the Legend of Le Mans with guests from different eras of over 100 years of racing. The Camoradi USA Racing’s 1960 Corvette was built for international competition under the auspices of Chevrolet General Manager Ed Cole and Corvette Chief Engineer Zora Duntov and went on to race successfully in Havana, Daytona, Sebring, Nürburgring, Sweden, and Le Mans. The only thing more amazing than this car’s creation and race record is its survival. On the way to Britain’s famed Goodwood circuit in August 1960 it was crashed hard and left for dead but miraculously, the shattered remains were preserved and discovered some thirty years later by Loren Lundberg, an unbelievably tenacious Corvette enthusiast from Glendale, Arizona. Our panel of guests tonight include: Richard Prince, author and official photographer for the GM Corvette Race Team; Dominic Testa, owner of the car; Chuck Schroedel, who was a member of the Camoradi team at Le Mans in 1960 Featuring the voices of Allonte Barakat (The Motor Chain) and Revel Arroway (CARnection Advisors); We appreciate these talented podcasters lending their support to the MPN. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Introducing the 1960 Camaradi Corvette 02:20 The Story of Lloyd 'Lucky' Kastner 03:30 The Camaradi Corvettes at Sebring 07:35 Technical Details of the Camaradi Corvette 13:48 Chuck Schroedel's Journey to Le Mans 25:06 The Camaradi Maserati Team 30:17 The Mulsanne Crash and Speed Records 30:47 Owning a Piece of Le Mans History 31:37 The Camaradi Team and Notable Figures 32:05 Fred Gamble and Carroll Shelby 32:26 The 1960 Le Mans Race 33:11 American Reception at Le Mans 34:12 Loren Lundberg's Quest for the Camaradi Corvette 34:59 Bob Wallace's Journey 37:27 Finding the Camaradi Corvette 40:11 The Car's Restoration and Legacy 49:46 Modern Corvette Racing and the C8 56:28 Closing Thoughts and Acknowledgements==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

04 Apr 2025 | Best of the Bay (Part 5): FINALE - This “decontented” Lucid Air “...that thing is SICK!” | 00:18:33
Jon Summers is the Motoring Historian. He was a company car thrashing technology sales rep that turned into a fairly inept sports bike rider. On his show he gets together with various co-hosts to talk about new and old cars, driving, motorbikes, motor racing, motoring travel. In this episode, Jon provides his insights on the latest vehicles in the 'Best of the Bay' road test series. He discusses and compares three standout cars: the 2025 Toyota Camry XSE, the full-size Range Rover, and the Lucid. The Camry is highlighted for its exceptional combination of performance and value, with characteristics comparable to a Lexus. The Range Rover impresses with its luxurious leather interior and commanding presence, though it is costly. The Lucid, despite being the most technologically advanced car tested and priced at double the Camry, stands out for its futuristic design and performance, making an impression on both Jon and a passerby during the review. John concludes with endorsements for the vehicles based on different consumer preferences. ====================

01 Aug 2024 | What Should I Buy? - Corvettes or Porsches? (Part-1) | 01:50:59
There are so many automotive rivalries: Ford v Ferrari, Honda v Volkswagen, Chevy v Ford, and the list goes on and on. But there is an extra special one in the sports car and motorsports world, Porsche versus Corvette, both of which recently celebrated their respective 75th and 70th birthdays. And after all this time, is it possible to agree on whether or not the 911 or the Corvette is “thee” every man's sports car. So which is it? And we’re here to answer that very question with our petrol-head panel to settle yet another What Should I Buy? debate. For the first time as part of this series, our panelists will be focused on a specific set of vehicles. In part one of our two part “Porsche vs Corvette” debate, we’re joined by Mark Shank, our ‘90s expert, along with Corvette owners like William “Big Money” Ross from The Exotic Car Marketplace, Rob Parr from Collector Car Guide, and Rick Hoback from AutoInterests and Hoback Racing … and then expert by way of his work with MECUM Auctions who sells more Corvette’s than anyone else on the planet, and he get to write about them, Don Weberg from Garage Style Magazine! And like all What Should I Buy (WSIB) episodes… we have some shopping criteria. So get ready folks, it’s time to unbutton your Hawaiian shirt, shine up your gold chains and pull out a fresh pair of new balance sneakers, because we’re gonna talk about Corvettes! And our panel of extraordinary petrol-heads are challenged to find our “first time collector” something that will make their friends go “OH, THAT’S SO YOU” at the next Cars & Coffee. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00:00 Porsche vs. Corvette Rivalry 00:00:56 Meet the Panelists 00:02:02 History of the Corvette C1 00:08:35 Collectibility and Market Trends of the C1 00:11:24 Transition to the C2 00:12:01 Design and Performance of the C2 00:21:33 Collector Market for the C2 00:26:07 Introduction to the C3 00:39:10 Exploring the C3 Corvette Market 00:39:46 Modifying the C3: Aftermarket Options 00:42:15 Trans Am vs. Corvette: A Value Comparison 00:44:01 The Missing 1983 Corvette and the Rise of the C4 00:45:07 C4 Corvette: Versatility and Market Value 00:52:31 C5 Corvette: Evolution and Track Performance 01:10:01 C6 Corvette: Design and Market Trends 01:15:07 The LS3 Engine Update and Magneto Suspension 01:16:23 Grand Sport Market Trends 01:18:52 C7 Corvette: A Design Departure 01:21:37 C8 Corvette: The Mid-Engine Revolution 01:25:32 Corvette's Evolution and Market Value 01:40:54 Daily Driver Debate: C7 vs. C8 01:47:41 Conclusion and Future Episodes==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

24 Jan 2024 | Truth is the Daughter of Time (Trevor Lister & Don Capps) | 00:30:55
Trevor Lister entered the University of Canterbury on a public service scholarship, graduating with a double degree in Physics and Mechanical Engineering. On graduation, he worked in the Ministry of Transport in the setting and administration of Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, primarily on natural gas and LPG vehicle standards. This led to a secondment to a national research and development organization where he was responsible for research on a wider range of alternative motor vehicle fuels. It led also to an international consultancy in that area, including a stint as the New Zealand delegate to the International Natural Gas Vehicles Association. Upon completion of that work, he returned to his foundation automotive design skills and his motorsports hobby. At which point he became an inspector and certifier on other peoples' projects, as well as designing, building and racing his own cars. In semi-retirement, he took up teaching and tutoring pre-apprenticeship students in Mathematics, Science and Automotive Engineering. In full retirement, he assumed the role of editor of the newsletter of The Classic Motor Racing Club of New Zealand. That is when, searching for newsletter stories, he came across the work of Donald Capps, and their common interest in old Maseratis. The upshot of working together on the histories of these cars became the main point in the presentation to this symposium. It appears that Maserati in the 1950s identified their competition cars by their engine numbers, not their chassis numbers, and that this process allowed for the individual cars to have carried more than one identity. This has implications for the provenance of these cars. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Trevor Lister's Background 01:37 Maserati's Unique Identification System 01:53 Trevor Lister's Presentation 02:47 The English vs. Italian Approach 04:38 Case Study: Maserati 250F 10:50 Donald Capps' Database Insights 15:46 Challenges in Historical Car Identification 19:10 Q&A Session 27:48 Closing Remarks and Acknowledgements 28:38 Outro and Additional Information==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

20 Aug 2024 | Get to know McPherson College's Auto Restoration Program (Ken Yohn & Kristie Sojka) | 00:44:15
The Automotive Restoration Technology program at McPherson College was established in 1976, and since its inception the curriculum has included the study of the technical and social history of the automobile. Given this experience, Yohn addresses how McPherson might inform teaching the specialized field of motor racing. He will begin by giving an overview of the McPherson automotive history curriculum and conclusions about substantive content choices and best teaching practices. By examining the comparative scope of automotive history and motor racing history, Yohn will present areas of substantial overlap and differentiation. Finally, he will present suggestions for curriculum and teaching practices. Participants will be requested to share their reflections on the following question: What 3 key topics should every motor racing historian understand? (Part 1) Ken Yohn is a social scientist keenly interested in how the automobile shapes our lives. With a Ph.D. in political science and postdoctoral work in history and economics, Yohn has held faculty positions at universities in Japan, Germany, France, and Poland, including a sabbatical as scholar in residence at the University of Science and Technology in Lille, France. For the past 25 years Yohn has been teaching at McPherson College in Kansas, where he is currently chair of the history and politics department. (Part 2) Kristie Sojka earned her BA in History from Wichita State University and her MLIS from Kent State University. She has worked in a variety of roles in Kansas libraries for the past 13 years. Sojka is currently entering her third year as the director of library services at Miller Library McPherson College. Her responsibilities include providing library and research services, support, and instruction to the entire campus community. She also oversees the two special collections located within Miller Library: the Brethren and College Archives and the Paul Russell and Company Center for Automotive Research, which houses the special automotive materials collection. Sojka is currently serving as vice president of the College and University Libraries Section of the Kansas Library Association. The Paul Russell and Company Center for Automotive Research housed within Miller Library at McPherson College currently holds over 5,000 automotive related titles. This presentation will consider the benefits and challenges of curating a special library collection and archives, which supports automotive restoration education. The presenter will discuss the types of materials currently available to researchers, the varying processes of obtaining materials, and options for organizing the collection. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Teaching Motorsports History at McPherson College 00:32 Ken Yohn's Background and Curriculum Overview 02:15 Challenges and Innovations in Faculty and Curriculum 05:24 Student Engagement and Liberal Arts Approach 11:26 Research and Methodology in Automotive History 14:47 Senior Thesis and Case Studies 22:31 Conclusion and Q&A with Ken Yong 23:55 Part 2: Cruising Through the Stacks with Christy Sojka 24:01 Kristie Sojka's Background and Library Overview 29:46 Automotive Restoration Collection and Renovation 34:44 Collaborations and Challenges in Curating Collections 39:33 Conclusion and Q&A with Kristie Sojka 41:58 Closing Remarks and Sponsors==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net

03 Jan 2023 | From the other side of the Fence to Amelia Island, the Bill Warner story. | 00:45:44
Tonight’s guest has been around automobiles his entire life. On weekends, he worked as a “gopher” for the dealership racing team and became enthralled with motor racing. His photographs and writing have appeared in Road & Track, Car and Driver, Autoweek, The Atlantic Monthly, Automobile, Automotor und Sport, Classic & Sportscar, Porsche Panorama, and Forza to mention a few. He has competed in the Cannonball Baker Sea-to-Shining-Sea Memorial Trophy Dash known to many of us as just “The Cannonball Run” as well as the Firestone/Firehawk series, winning the IMSA Media Challenge (for racing journalists) in 1984-1986. And if that wasn’t enough he also restores and collects interesting cars. Who exactly are we talking about? Acclaimed author, photographer, racer, car collector and all around petrol-head… none other than Bill Warner, who in 1996, also founded the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance near his home of Jacksonville, Florida. And we welcome him to Break/Fix to share some amazing stories with all of you. ===== (Oo---x---oO) ===== 00:00 Guest Introduction: Bill Warner 02:20 Early Career and Motorsports Beginnings 04:05 First Race Car and Cannonball Run 04:57 Cannonball Run Adventures 16:44 Racing in the Firestone Firehawk Series 18:22 Owning and Racing Iconic Cars 22:51 Favorite and Least Favorite Racetracks 23:35 Building a Motor and Racing at Mossport 25:03 Exploring the Car Collection 27:30 The Beauty and the Beast of Cars 32:46 From Motorsports to Concours 34:55 The Amelia Island Concours Journey 39:52 Life After Amelia Island 40:34 Final Thoughts and Reflections==================== The Motoring Podcast Network : Years of racing, wrenching and Motorsports experience brings together a top notch collection of knowledge, stories and information. #everyonehasastory #gtmbreakfix - motoringpodcast.net
