And now, there is a new technological advancement that threatens something more than just fire, how we think. Join MC Garen Daly along with film programmer Melissa Starker and film director Dave Gianacola as they open the bomb bay doors and drop a new podcast.

08 Oct 2024Podcast: UIVERSAL MEMORIES: The Films of Philip K Dick00:49:27

Memory implants, replicants, alternative realities, and fake reality - these are some of the elements that make stories by Philip K Dick resonant decades after his death, and what makes them fodder for 'high concept' Hollywood films. Join author/crtic Hope Madden & film programmer Melissa Starker as Boston SciFi Presents UNIVERSAL MEMORIES: The Films of Philip K Dick. Garen Daly is the host, who apologies in advance for getting Harlan Ellison and Philip K Dick mixed up in his addled brain.

Also please note, Boston SciFi uses movie clips to illustrate points discussed. Sometimes there will be sound, but no voices.

Good movies have good actors. Better movies have better actors. They're called character actors. No longer typed as gangster or slapstick comedian, modern character actors show, range, understand psychology and film history. Listen in as film commentators Alexis den Boggende & Oscar Goff join MC Garen Daly in zoom through JK Simmons, Angela Bassett, Steve Buscemi, Brad Dourif and Paul GIamatti as five such examples. A fun, insightful podcast produced by Boston SciFi, Garen Daly is the MC.

13 Dec 2024It Came from the Orson Welles: A Boston SciFi Podcast00:57:48

Fifty years is a long time. Much has happened. Much has changed. Fifty years ago the Boston Science Fiction Film Festival began at a legendary movie theatre. Later it overcame a fire, an historic blizzard, and a plague. It overcame changing demographics, and rapidly evolving technologies.  We have gone from seeing movies only in movie theatre to being able to catch a blockbuster while riding on a bus. Authors Robert Viagas and Harry Lohr, Jr passionately recount their adventure in creating a history of America's longest running genre film festival - The 50th Boston Science Fiction Film Festival & Marathon, Host: Garen Daly

Michelle Barberais an artist, comedian, producer, and writer who lives in the Boston area with her husband, 4 children, and dog. She discovered her love of sci-fi and horror via unmonitored cable viewing and stalking the Worcester public library throughout her childhood. He has since gone on to have a forty year career writing and producing TV series and movies in Hollywood. He is best known as the writer/producer of SPIDER-MAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES and co-writer of the cult comedy film CLASS ACT.

Salamoff has been working for over 30 years in Film, TV, Video Games and Commercials as a Writer, Producer, Director, Executive, Comic Creator, Storyboard Artist and Make-Up FX Artist as well as a Teacher at  THE NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY. 08 Oct 2021SciFi TV: The New Golden Age00:47:03

Back in the day, science fiction on television  was all TWILIGHT ZONE, OUTER LIMITS, the original STAR TREK, and if you really pushed it, MY FAVORITE MARTIAN.

These days the plots are intricate, and smart. These days the shows  push boundaries no TV show has pushed before. These days it is the reboot of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. These days it is the edgy,THE EXPANSE. These days it is a throwback STRANGER THINGS. These days it was once unfilmmable FOUNDATION. Oh, did we mention how incredible the SFX are?

Boston ScIFi takes a deep dive into the how and the why we are seeing and experiencing so much great TV.  Listen in.  The Future is Now. The Golden Age of TV is Now.

Joining MC Michelle Barbera is Den of Geek's TV maven Michael Ahr and MIT Tech Review's Erin Underwood.
