Due to COVID-19 this year the event took a digital format.  Organized by Granite PR, it is held in association with the Greater Houston Partnership and supported by the Energy Industries Council (EIC), The British Consulate-General Houston and Scottish Development International (SDI).  The event took place at the end of May 2020.

With Vattenfall suspending a massive project in the UK North Sea and Iberdrola-owned Avangrid agreeing to pay roughly $50 million to end a power arrangement for a groundbreaking US venture that it claims is no longer viable, offshore wind has had better months.

A examination of Siemens Energy's wind turbine business revealed more serious issues than anticipated that might cost more than 1 billion euros ($1.1 billion). As a result, the company canceled its 2023 profit forecast. An extensive technical study of Siemens Gamesa's installed turbine fleet and product designs, according to Siemens Energy, was started as a result of what it claims to be a marked increase in component failure rates.

Since offshore wind's ambitions have grown, it has always signaled good news for the energy transition. This month, the US announced first leasing in the Gulf of Mexico, but storm clouds are now undeniably forming.

Jonathan Knight is a Cofounder and CEO of Uprise Energy, a San Diego, CA based startup that is building the world’s first commercially sized mobile wind turbines. Prior to Uprise, Jonathan was the Senior VP and General Manager of Knight & Carver Yacht Center, an award winning and globally recognized custom yacht builder that also operated the largest marine repair facility on the West Coast of the Americas.

In the late ‘90s, Jonathan leveraged the company’s reputation as a leader in composites to begin offering repair services to utility scale wind turbine companies. The success of this venture spun-off its own division - Knight & Carver Wind Group - that evolved from blade repair to new blade manufacturing for the largest OEM’s in the space and created a Field Services division with nearly 400 employees that serviced wind farms all around the world.

The crowning achievement of this division came when the company teamed up with the US Dept. of Energy and SANDIA Laboratories to develop the STAR Blade®, which is the #1 performing wind turbine blade ever built.

PODCAST: David Greenberg discusses his key role in the transition to digitally trading commodities during the early 1990s and leading the global recovery effort for the oil market immediately after 9/11 as a board member of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), the organization that established and influenced the world’s oil market.

As an early supporter in the transition to digital commodity trading, David Greenberg was crucial to developing the digital trading platform software now used in all commodities trading. Starting his career as a crude oil and gold pit trader, David rose to become a member of the following NYMEX committees: Corporate Governance, Marketing, Facilities, Building Security, Local Advisory, Electronic Trading Advisory, International Expansion Advisory and, NYMEX Finance Committee.

David was a board member during the most successful IPO in U.S. history, in which the growth valuation for the NYMEX IPO went from $800 million to $12 billion. After the September 11th terrorist attacks, David was part of the September 11, 2001 NYMEX Business Recovery Board, in which he helped lead a team that effectively reinstated the framework for oil trading and avoided a global economic collapse, all under direct instructions from the White House. David is an expert oil commodities commentator for CNBC, CNN, Fox News and has lectured at the West Point, Columbia University, Syracuse University and more.

As a seasoned and experienced financial global market expert, he was part of the launch of the Dubai Mercantile Exchange, a subsidiary of NYMEX. David is president of Sterling Commodities Corporation, one of the largest New York-based commodity clearinghouses.

The U.S. is now the second-biggest bitcoin mining destination on the planet, accounting for nearly 17% of all the world’s bitcoin miners, which is an increase of 151% in the last year. However, there is a major environmental concern, as Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies require large amounts of energy to operate, due to the computations needed for bitcoin mining. Currently, estimates, the Bitcoin network uses as much energy in one year as the country of Argentina.

What is Hedera?

Nadav Zemier, an award-winning principal, author, blockchain expert and is pioneering the intersection of technology and education as a data-driven disruptor. Nadav is the author of Education in the Digital Age: How We Get There where he offers an evaluation of how digital technology and economics are poised to transform education by examining the concept of academic capital. 

He explains why it’s necessary to reengineer the way credits are stored and used in education by implementing blockchain technology to the credits ledger system. Nadav excelled as a software engineer in Silicon Valley prior to becoming an award-winning physics/robotics teacher, turnaround principal, and public speaker. The transition from software to education started when Nadav founded a nonprofit focused on hyper-local radio production. 

As a teacher, Nadav integrated podcasting into his curricula and was selected to lead a school design team. Seven consecutive years of breakthrough student outcomes followed, along with widespread recognition for his digital media-centered approach to school reform. Nadav promises to end standardized testing in NYC high schools by 2040. Based on nearly two decades of experience, he has launched an open-source, blockchain ledger of "gold standard" high school credits. Nadav was a keynote speaker and led two breakout sessions at the 2021 Miami Crypto Experience.

Danish Energy Agency unveiled plans for this energy hub, an artificial island, that will be 80 kilometers off Jutland peninsula in Northern Europe. The island will be built to distribute green electricity generated from hundreds of wind turbines surrounding the island to North Sea countries.

In the latest installment of  Ziyen Energy’s Podcast, BOOM! It’s on the Blockchain, ZIYEN Chairman, David Greenberg, discusses the complex matrix that makes up the global oil market, Saudi Arabia’s key role in OPEC, the Organization for Petroleum Exporting Nations, in addition to the the role renewable energy will play in the next ten years.

 With the demand for oil reaching 92 million barrels a day, and Saudi Arabia and OPEC capable of supplying approximately 40 percent of this demand, it has meant Saudi Arabia has dominated the market space. However, this is changing with the increase in domestic production in the US. David also discussed the recent drone attacks in Saudi Arabia and how in the past would have disrupted the entire global market, yet, luckily disrupted only 5% of the oil market.

This is largely due to the rise in the output of domestic crude which has increased by 150% and gas output increasing 60%. Oil, however, is more easily transportable and sold on a larger and broader scale on the international market with linked prices. However, it is important to remember that for oil consuming nations, events such as the drone attacks can have far-reaching effects on their supply.

Lastly, David discusses the opportunity for Trading Energy Trading.  Where we have collaborated and created a method for tokenizing the financial assets of oil and energy projects on the blockchain.

In the latest episode of Boom! It's on the Blockchain we are joined by Julian Rodriguez to discuss the challenges for NFTs.

Julian Rodriguez is the Founder & CEO of Momento, a social media platform that enables creators and followers to profit from digital connections. He is a serial entrepreneur, product manager, and innovation-focused strategist. Early in his career, he founded and led a super PAC to level the digital playing field against disinformation. He joined Bitcoin Magazine in 2013 and collaborated directly with its co-founder Vitalik Buterin. He was an early member of the team and advisor to some prominent crypto and blockchain projects, including the hugely popular Ethereum project.

NFTs, or Non-Fungible Tokens, have grown incredibly popular and widely used. They do, however, also confront a number of difficulties that might affect their long-term viability. In this podcast we discuss some of the difficulties with NFTs:

** Scalability: As NFTs become more popular, the demand for transactions and the data that goes along with them may strain the blockchain networks on which they run, creating problems with scalability. To solve this problem, layer 2 protocols are being investigated as blockchain scalability options.

** User experience: NFTs run primarily on blockchain networks, which can be challenging for non-technical people to understand. The creation, purchase, and sale of tokens on NFT systems can involve a learning curve and transaction costs. For NFTs to be more widely adopted, it will be essential to enhance user experience and increase accessibility.

** Market Saturation: Due to the NFT market's rapid growth, concerns about oversaturation and bubbles have been expressed. Due to the present excitement and speculative nature of NFT investments, the market experienced a fall as demand fell, which resulted in unsustainable pricing practices.

** Lack of regulation: The NFT market currently lacks thorough oversight, leaving it open to fraud, copyright violations, and frauds. For artists, collectors, and investors, the lack of clear regulations and legal frameworks can limit adoption and lead to uncertainty.

** Environmental Impact: Proof-of-work (PoW) consensus techniques are commonly used in blockchain networks where NFTs are constructed, such as Ethereum. Concerns concerning PoW blockchains' environmental impact have been raised due to their energy usage. To address this problem, efforts are being made to switch to more energy-efficient consensus techniques, such as proof-of-stake (PoS).

** Long-Term Value: It's still unclear what NFTs will be worth in the long run. While some contend that NFTs will transform digital ownership and open up new revenue opportunities for artists, others doubt that the present frenzy will last and that the market will go beyond its current state of novelty and speculative interest.

In order to understand, nuclear power has a high energy density, meaning a small amount of nuclear fuel can produce a large amount of energy, contributing to energy security.

Nuclear power plants can provide continuous, reliable "base load" power, which is essential for maintaining a stable electricity supply. Ongoing research into advanced reactor designs, such as Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Generation IV reactors, aims to address some of the challenges associated with traditional nuclear power, including safety, cost, and waste management.

Public perception of nuclear power varies, and concerns about safety, nuclear accidents, and radioactive waste disposal can influence the future development of nuclear energy. Especially with accidents such as Chernobyl and Fukushima have raised significant safety concerns, contributing to public apprehension about nuclear power.

Oil companies are now heavily investing in renewable energy, we focus on BP, who have pledged to increase its investment in low-carbon energy 10-fold to $5 billion a year by 2030, taking its renewable-energy capacity to 50 gigawatts, from 2.5 GW in 2019.

The Kraken Bank which is the first cryptocurrency firm in the U.S. to become a bank.  The Wyoming Banking Board voted to approve the San Francisco-based crypto exchange’s application for a special purpose depository institution (SPDI) charter. Kraken is now the first SPDI bank in Wyoming.

In the latest episode of BOOM! It's on the Blockchain we Interview with Jonathan Knight, CEO of Uprise Energy to discuss how the blockchain can be used in renewable energy production, his latest partnership with AWS and decentralized energy trading and energy supply. 

Jonathan Knight is a Cofounder and CEO of Uprise Energy, a San Diego, CA based startup that is building the world’s first commercially sized mobile wind turbines. Prior to Uprise, Jonathan was the Senior VP and General Manager of Knight & Carver Yacht Center, an award winning and globally recognized custom yacht builder that also operated the largest marine repair facility on the West Coast of the Americas. 

In the late ‘90s, Jonathan leveraged the company’s reputation as a leader in composites to begin offering repair services to utility scale wind turbine companies. The success of this venture spun-off its own division - Knight & Carver Wind Group - that evolved from blade repair to new blade manufacturing for the largest OEM’s in the space and created a Field Services division with nearly 400 employees that serviced wind farms all around the world. 

The crowning achievement of this division came when the company teamed up with the US Dept. of Energy and SANDIA Laboratories to develop the STAR Blade®, which is the #1 performing wind turbine blade ever built.

Beyond managing the business operations at Uprise, Jonathan is the architect behind the now patented Dancing with the Wind feature of the Uprise wind turbines and has played an integral role in the development of all aspects of the technology.

Jonathan holds a Business Administration degree from San Diego State University, is happily married with two awesome kids and is an avid cyclist amongst other sporting interests.

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is one of the world's largest single energy consumers, relying heavily on oil and gas for heating, lighting, and transportation. This dependency not only contributes significantly to pollution but also poses risks to national security due to reliance on foreign fossil fuels.

This innovative system, which can be shipped in a 20' container or two in a 40' ISO container, is towable by a standard vehicle and sets up in just one hour by a single person. Bitcoin crashed from a record high of over $64,000 by approximately 50% and is trading between $36,000 - $39,000, but what were the factors behind the crash.

In this podcast Alastair Caithness, Ziyen Energy CEO, discusses democratization of Ownership of Energy Assets.  This is achieved through tokenization of energy assets on the blockchain which creates a new model where smaller investors can invest for the first time in history owning an energy asset.  

This the second part of the interview with Tina Konstant for the eighth annual Aberdeen-Houston Gateway, where he discusses a brief history of the company and the pivot onto the blockchain.

Linking the North East of Scotland with the energy capital of the world, the annual Aberdeen-Houston Gateway has become a much-anticipated fixture on the business calendar since it was first held in 2013.

Due to COVID-19 this year the event took a digital format.  Organized by Granite PR, it is held in association with the Greater Houston Partnership and supported by the Energy Industries Council (EIC), The British Consulate-General Houston and Scottish Development International (SDI).  The event took place at the end of May 2020.

In the latest episode of Boom! It's on the blockchain we discuss vertical wind turbines, energy tokens pitch deck and Caitlyn Jenner for Governor of California. A research team from the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics (ECM) at Oxford Brookes led by Professor Iakovos Tzanakis conducted an in-depth study using more than 11,500 hours of computer simulation to show that wind farms can perform more efficiently by substituting the traditional propeller-type Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines (HAWTs), for compact Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs). ​​​​​​​​​
Prior to Energy Tokens (i) direct investments in energy producing assets have been made exclusively through negotiated private transactions through parties in direct and personal contact with one another, (ii) the transfer of even the smallest interests in energy producing assets have required negotiated contracts and physical document filings in antiquated local land registries and (iii) the information to support making and monitoring such investments is not readily available to owners and other stakeholders or preserved in a complete and unalterable form for the life of the project and beyond. ​​​​​​​​​
These limitations (i) add significant cost and redundancies to the purchase, sale and monitoring of energy assets, (ii) cut-off access to this asset class to global retail and institutional investors who are not energy industry participants, and (iii) destroy opportunities for liquidity by holders of non-controlling interests in energy producing assets. The current state of affairs has remained unchanged for over 100 years, resulting in a persistent lack of liquidity for current owners and a lack of opportunity for prospective investors. ​​​​​​​​​
The Energy Tokens platform has been developed to address these inherent problems by democratizing energy investment opportunities, creating liquidity for illiquid energy investments, and facilitating better access to capital for energy development projects. ​​​​​​​​​

Alastair wants to explain some of the difficulties Lewis Capaldi may encounter as a result of his recent revelation and give you a general summary of Tourette's syndrome so you can better comprehend the condition. Alastair has a son who is on the Autism Spectrum, has ADHD, and Tourette's.

Tourette's syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by repetitive, involuntary movements and vocalizations called tics. Therefore, I can provide a general overview of Tourette's syndrome to help you understand the condition better.

Tics: Tics are the hallmark of Tourette's syndrome. They can be divided into two main categories:

- Motor tics: These involve involuntary movements, such as blinking, head jerking, shoulder shrugging, or facial grimacing.

- Vocal tics: These involve involuntary sounds or words, which can range from simple throat clearing or grunting to more complex vocalizations, including words or phrases.

Tics can be classified as either simple or complex. Simple tics involve brief, sudden movements or sounds, while complex tics are more coordinated and may involve several movements or a series of words.

Numerous people with Tourette syndrome may also have co-occurring disorders such autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), severe depression, or obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

There is no known treatment for Tourette's syndrome, however there are ways to control symptoms. The frequency and intensity of tics can be lessened with the use of behavioral therapy, such as Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT), and medicine, such as antipsychotics and alpha-2 adrenergic agonists.

Due to their symptoms, people with Tourette's syndrome frequently experience social stigma and misunderstandings. To foster an environment that is more encouraging, it is crucial to spread knowledge about the condition and encourage comprehension of it.

Remember that Tourette's syndrome varies from person to person, and not everyone with the condition experiences the same symptoms or severity.

The EY organization announced it is using the Polygon protocol and framework to deploy EY blockchain solutions on the public Ethereum blockchain ecosystem.  

As more enterprises adopt blockchain technology, transaction volumes and costs on the main public Ethereum blockchain have risen. Adopting Polygon's commit chain solutions allows the EY organization to offer enterprise users increased transaction volumes with predictable costs and settlement times and the option to move transactions onto the public Ethereum mainnet.  

EY has connected the Polygon public, permissionless commit chain into EY flagship blockchain services including EY OpsChain and EY Blockchain Analyzer. EY clients can connect their business operations into Polygon networks with just a simple configuration change on blockchain.ey.com. The main Polygon systems network and the main Polygon test and development network are now both directly accessible from blockchain.ey.com.
