28 Jun 2021Ep. 25: Dominating the Trash Birds, the catcher situation, trade proposals, and more!00:35:17

The Blue Jays continued their dominance against the Trash Birds, winning three of four games over the weekend.  Despite the good result, it was still a bit of a downer given the fact the team threw away yet another winnable game on Friday night.

That Blue Jays really should have pulled off a four-game sweep, but that ain't easy to do when you only have one reliable bullpen arm. We complained about the meltdown, talked about Charlie's odd decision to use Tayler Saucedo in a key spot, and also looked at some positives from the series, like Vladdy mashing, Cavan Biggio doing well since coming back from the Injured List, and Reese McGuire's hot stretch.

We then jumped into some trade talk because Silly Season is right around the corner. We discussed the idea of trading one of the five catchers on the 40-man roster and debated whether it would be wise to deal Nate Pearson to acquire a top-end arm such as Jose Berrios.

Finally, we previewed the upcoming series against the red-hot Mariners, an objectively bad team who somehow pulled off a four-game sweep over Tampa and won two of three against the White Sox.

05 Apr 2021Ep.2: Recapping Week One & Getting a Yankee fans perspective on the Blue Jays00:51:23
That was an excellent Opening Weekend for the Toronto Blue Jays. The good guy rolled into Yankee Stadium and made a statement by picking up the series win despite having a couple of key players on the Injured List. There's a loooooong ways to go, but it looks like the Blue Jays are poised to go toe-to-toe with the Yanks this year.  So, what do things look like from the other side? We welcomed Joshua Diemert of Pinstripe Alley on the show to talk about the Yankees, what he expects from them this season, what he thought about the Blue Jays based on this weekend, and what it would take for Toronto to jump New York and win the American League East. Beyond that, we also talked about our three up, three down from this weekend, ranging from great performances from the Blue Jays bullpen and some big hits from Randal Grichuk to an awful bunt attempt by Danny Jansen and Cavan Biggio's difficult start. We also previewed what we're going to see over the next week as the team heads to Texas to face the Rangers and then heads home to Dunedin to host the Los Angeles Angels.

16 Aug 2021Ep. 38: There were no good vibes in Seattle00:24:17

Well, things did not go as expected during the Blue Jays trip to Seattle. The vibes were not good and Jays dropped two of the three games. Cam & Tyler broke down what went wrong in the series and managed to pull a few positives from the three games in today’s episode of BJN Radio!

The bullpen struggled, but that might be a product of fatigue. As far as the offence goes, Teoscar continued his crazy hot streak while Vladdy started to bounce back from a rough week at the plate. On the mound, the Jays got a decent outing from Steven Matz in the series finale, which was a very good sign.

Moving forward, they move on to Washington for a quick two game set against a really bad Nationals team. There is immense pressure on the Jays to sweep this upcoming set of games and when you consider who the teams they’re chasing are playing this week, there is a chance for the Jays to get right back into the race this week.

09 May 2021Ep. 11: Houston, Nate has a problem00:31:22

After earning a split in Oakland, the Blue Jays rolled into Houston and dropped two of three against the Astros.

The series started with an ugly outing from Ross Stripling and then concluded with a frustrating outing from Nate Pearson in his 2021 Blue Jays debut. We talked on this week's podcast about Big Nate's struggles with command and whether it's best for him to go down to Triple-A to work them out or whether the team should let him try to sort it by facing big-league competition.

We also talked about the state of the Blue Jays' decimated bullpen, Cavan Biggio launching a homer in front of his parents, Rowdy Tellez coming back up and doing well at the plate, Danny Jansen regressing to the mean now that Alejandro Kirk is out long-term. Finally, we looked ahead to the series in Atlanta with the Braves.

02 May 2022Ep. 72: Picking the Blue Jays' MVP for April, taking a look around the American League East, and more!00:28:23

That was certainly a much better April than the one we saw last year. The Blue Jays are 15-8 after their first month (though it was an abbreviated one) and they've managed to have all of this success despite some key injuries and the bats not being at their best.

We took a look at the series win over the Houston Astros and talked about George Springer dominating his former team, Kevin Gausman's continued brilliance, and some optimism that Bo Bichette might soon turn a corner.

After that, we talked about who Toronto's Most Valuable Player has been early on and then took a spin around the American League East and looked at how baseball's deepest division is doing so far.  Finally, we previewed the upcoming series against the Yankees, who are riding a nine-game winning streak. While the Yankees are undoubtedly a good team, a lot of their success has come against weak opponents, so this series in Toronto will be a test for them.

15 Jun 2021Ep. 21: A Rollercoaster Ride at Fenway00:37:23

That was a hell of a weekend-and-a-bit! The Blue Jays rolled into Fenway for a four-game series with the Red Sox, a team we are all desperate to call the Fraud Sox, and ended up with a split.  It was kind of a sandwich of a series. The two games in the middle were great, as the Blue Jays kicked the piss out of Boston's pitching and earned a couple of big wins. But the two games on the outside, Friday and Monday, featured frustrating late-game implosions from the bullpen.

We talked about Charlie Montoyo's decision-making and what the hell is going on with the 'pen and how it can be fixed. We also tried to dive into some positives, such as Vladdy continuing to be insane and Alek Manoah further cementing himself as The Big Man.  It was a rollercoaster ride of a series and the podcast was, to be totally honest, a rollercoaster ride as well.

26 May 2022Ep. 79: Charlie's blunder, the arrival of the bats, a prospect update, and more!00:32:14
The bats! They've arrived, it seems! After a wildly frustrating loss on Monday in St. Louis, the Blue Jays' bats finally exploded the following day with an eight-run showing against the Cardinals. We talked about Charlie Montoyo's odd bullpen decision from the loss, and also the excellent starts from Jose Berrios and Kevin Gausman. We also looked into why the offense was so much better in this series than it has been over the past few weeks.  After that, we took a look at how some prospects are doing down in Triple-A and who might be able to help the Blue Jays in the coming weeks. Finally, we took a look ahead at the weekend series with the Los Angeles California Angels of Anaheim in Los Angeles.

18 Jun 2021Ep. 22: Things are bad. The Jays got swept.00:36:54
This week on BJN Radio, Cam Lewis was joined by Brendan Kuhn to talk about the ugly three-game set from the Toronto Blue Jays that featured blown leads, some ugly performances, and even a triple-play. Things are not looking good & quite frankly, we're a little pissed off. Where do they go from here? Cam and BK talked about that and more this week on the pod.

16 May 2022Ep. 76: The bats remained silent at The Trop, let's hope they wake up for the Mariners00:26:13
As you'd expect, facing the Rays at The Trop wasn't the remedy that the Blue Jays needed.  Toronto dropped two of three in Tampa as the bats yet again remained completely silent. They've now dropped four series in a row since the end of April and have an 18-17 record on the season. We recapped the series against Tampa and talked about George Springer bashing into the outfield ball, Matt Chapman's struggles at the plate and with the glove, and the fact that the team's approach at the plate seems completely lost. We also looked at some positives from the series, such as Hyun Jin Ryu and Danny Jansen doing well in their returns.  After that, we looked ahead at the upcoming series against the Seattle Mariners, which won't feature old friend Robbie Ray. The Mariners have also been ice cold over the past few weeks, so hopefully, this can be the beginning of a turnaround for the Blue Jays.

30 May 2022Ep. 80: A four-game sweep? On the West Coast?!?00:28:48

What a ride.

The Blue Jays traveled out west and brought their bats with them, as they scored 27 runs over the course of a four-game sweep over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

In this episode of BJN Radio, we took a look through that rollercoaster of a series in which the Blue Jays started to look a lot like the 2021 Blue Jays, a team that'll blow a lead but then grab it right back. We talked about the batters that are heating up, the team's great problem behind the plate, and some stellar performances out of the bullpen.

We also talked about Jose Berrios' difficult outing and some unnecessary hate that's been thrown at Charlie Montoyo. Finally, we looked ahead to the upcoming series with the Chicago White Sox, a team with high expectations that hasn't yet found its groove.

01 Oct 2021Ep. 50: Welcome to Heartbreak00:31:36

That wasn't the storybook finish we were hoping for. The Yankees rolled into Toronto for what was a playoff-like series at The Dome. Capacity was upped to 30,000 and the Blue Jays had a chance to catch the Yankees in the standings and ultimately put themselves in a position to earn a playoff spot. The table was set.

Unfortunately, it was the Yankees who showed up to play while the Blue Jays didn't bring their best. The bats were silenced in the first game on Tuesday, Bo Bichette led the team to a win on Wednesday, and then, with a chance to pull within one game of New York on Thursday, Robbie Ray got lit up in the sixth inning and Toronto's bats couldn't solve the Yankees' bullpen the rest of the way. It was a heartbreaker, a gut-punch, and an energy-sucking loss.

We talked about a bunch of stuff on this episode of BJN Radio, including Bo's amazing series, Nate Pearson having some good outings out of the 'pen, and the decision by Charlie Montoyo to keep Ray in the game when it looked like the Yankees had him solved. We also looked ahead to the final series with Baltimore and what it'll take for Toronto to leap over the Red Sox and the Mariners.

05 May 2022Ep. 73: Yusei Kikuchi's best start as a Blue Jay salvages a difficult series against the Yankees00:40:53

For the first time all season, the Blue Jays have lost a series.

The Yankees rolled into town on a nine-game heater and proved, well, why they're on a nine-game heater. New York took the first two games of the series with ridiculously effective pitching and some clutch hitting and then the Blue Jays edged out a win in the finale to save themselves from the sweep.

Me and BK talked about why the bats are struggling, whether or not adding Teoscar Hernandez will be the shot of life the bats need, and what Yusei Kikuchi did differently in the best start of his season. We also talked about the possibility of Josh Bell becoming a Blue Jay and looked ahead to the four-game series coming up in Cleveland.

22 Apr 2021Ep. 6: The bullpen comes up huge for a two-game split at Fenway00:32:00

The Blue Jays rolled into Fenway and earned a split in their mini, two-game series with the Red Sox this week. All things considered, given Toronto's wealth of injuries and how well the Red Sox had been playing early on, earning a split here is a pretty good outcome.

The Blue Jays limited the Red Hot Sox bats to just eight runs over the two games, impressive given Boston came into the series with the best offence in baseball. We talked on this post-series podcast about the team's unlikely hero, the bullpen, the one-two punch of Bo and Vlad absolutely mashing, the team's challenges with defence, particularly Lourdes Gurriel and Cavan Biggio, and what the lineup should look like when George Springer and Teoscar Hernandez return.

We also looked ahead to the looming three-game series at The House of Horrors with the Rays. Tampa is also dealing with a wealth of pitching injuries but they're starting to find their stride offensively. This is a big series for the Blue Jays but they have their best three arms, Hyun Jin Ryu, Steven Matz, and Robbie Ray going.

08 Oct 2021Ep. 52: The 2021 Blue Jays Eulogy01:20:00

Coom, Tyler, and BK sat down and each came up with our own 'three up, three down' from this year as a way to look back on all of the good, bad, and everything in between from the 2021 Blue Jays season.

We talked about the good stuff, like Vladdy's breakout season, the value of Marcus Semien and Robbie Ray's one-year contracts, Alek Manoah becoming The Big Man out of the blue, the home run jacket being insanely cool, and the amazing homecoming to Toronto in July. We also talked about the bad stuff, like the chaos that was the early-season bullpen, the ugly losses that ultimately cost the Blue Jays a playoff spot, Hyun Jin Ryu's struggles, George Springer's injuries, and the current MLB schedule and post-season format.

21 Jun 2021Ep. 23: Taking two from the Trash Birds00:29:45

Tyler is back from his soul-searching expedition in the woods and the Blue Jays are back in the win column!

This weekend with the Trash Birds didn't look very good right off the hop as the Blue Jays got pounded 7-1 on Friday and then appeared to be on their way to another loss on Saturday. But a six-run rally in the ninth inning led by an incredible at-bat from Bo Bichette saved the day and the team rode a great Hyun Jin Ryu start on Sunday to a series win.

We talked about the good from the weekend, like Bo and Ryu, and also the bad from the weekend, mostly the bullpen this episode of BJN Radio. We also touched on how the lineup should look when George Springer returns, how the team could move Gabriel Moreno up the system, and the two new (old?) bullpen additions, John Axford and Jacob Barnes.

30 Jul 2021A Split at Fenway, trade deadline talk, catching up with the new-look Yankees, and more!00:38:07
All things considered, that was a pretty good week.

The Blue Jays rolled into Fenway and took two of four from the first-place team in the American League. They suffered a heartbreaker on Monday, the game was rained out on Tuesday, Robbie Ray guided the team to a win with an ace start on Wednesday, Steven Matz had a tough go in the night cap, and then the bats exploded for 13 runs in the finale on Friday.

All said, two out of four ain't bad. It doesn't move the needle in terms of catching Boston, but it keeps them in the mix for the wild-card and it ensures that Friday's homecoming won't be a bummer.

Anyways! With Tyler still lost in the woods and BK on a flight from B.C. to Toronto, I tackled talking about the Boston series ALL BY MYSELF. I also talked about the acquisition of Brad Hand from Washington and where he fits in the team's bullpen along with the rumour that the Blue Jays are in the mix for Jose Berrios.

Finally, I welcomed Neil Keefe to the show to talk about the New York Yankees, who just had a huge swing by adding Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo ahead of the trade deadline. We talked about whether or not that'll be a game-changer for them, what he expects from the Yanks the rest of the way, and his thoughts on the Blue Jays.

10 Sep 2021Ep. 44: The brooms come out in The Bronx!00:35:54

They did it! The Jays swept away the New York Yankees in convincing fashion and they now sit just outside of a Wild Card. It's the first time since 2015 that the Blue Jays have won eight games in a row and really, it feels a lot like 2015 right now. Everything is breaking their way. They're getting clutch starts, huge outings from different relievers, and cutch at-bats from stars and from depth players. Nothing is going wrong right now.

Cam was joined by Yankees writer Neil Keefe on the pod as well to recap the series and get a Yankees fans perspective on how the last week has gone.

There are now just 23 games left in the season and if the Jays win the games in hand that they have, they'll be tied with both the Yankees and Red Sox. They essentially control their own fate in this playoff race.

Up next for the Jays is a four-game set against the Baltimore Orioles, who are 45-94 so far this season. These are very winnable games.

24 Apr 2022Ep. 70: Blue Jays down Astros, getting on the Zack Collins hype train, Jordan Romano's workload, and more!00:30:24

Another series, another win for the Blue Jays.

To be honest, it really felt like this was a win-one-and-get-out operation, but the Blue Jays rolled into Houston and took two of three from the Astros, an impressive result given the difficulties they've had facing this team in the past.

We recapped all of the good and bad stuff from the series in Houston and then looked ahead to the four-gamer back in Toronto against the Boston Red Sox.

We also talked about the possibility that Zack Collins is legit, the struggles of Cavan Biggio and what to do with him, Jordan Romano's save streak coming to an end, and a whole bunch more.

11 Apr 2022Ep. 66: What an Opening Weekend!00:34:51

Blue Jays baseball returned to Toronto with a bang.

In their first normal Home Opener in three years, the Blue Jays put on an insane show, coming back from 7-0 down to pull off a 10-8 win. They picked up another win on Saturday and then appeared they were on their way to a sweep before the pitching imploded for 11 unanswered runs.

We talked about the wild ride that was Opening Weekend, the comeback and the electricity of the biggest crowd the Dome has seen in years, the clutch performances of the bullpen, the difficult times the starting pitchers had and whether it means anything or not, and, of course, the huge bats.

After that, we looked around the American League and talked about what the other teams got up to before looking ahead to an important series against the Yankees in New York. Remember, we can't say It's Early anymore, not after last year.

21 May 2021Ep. 14 - A promising series with the Red Sox ends in catastrophe00:31:35

This series looked so promising. The Blue Jays pounded the Red Sox on Tuesday and had first place in the American League East within their grasp and then... *loud fart noise*

Ross Stripling got lit up on Wednesday and then Rafael Dolis blew a two-run lead in the ninth inning of the rubber match to give Boston the series victory on Thursday. Talk about deflating!  We had an angry version of BJN Radio following the loss, talking about the recent struggles of the exhausted bullpen, the frustration of the Blue Jays having to hear opposing fans dominate their home ballpark, and whether or not we'll see Alek Manoah finally called up to make his big-league debut.

Finally, we looked ahead to the four-game series with the surging Tampa Bay Rays on the horizon and talked about what our hopes and expectations are for that series.

24 Jun 2021Ep. 24 - The winning streak reaches four!00:24:49

Boy, playing terrible teams sure is fun!

Fresh off of winning back-to-back games against the Orioles on Saturday and Sunday, the Blue Jays rolled into Miami for a two-game set with the Marlins and picked up a sweep, ultimately pushing their winning streak to a season-high four games. We talked on the post-series podcast about George Springer's ho-hum return and where he should be in the lineup, the excellent pitching of Robbie Ray and Ross Stripling, and the bullpen bouncing back with six effective innings.

We also talked about Mark Shapiro's radio hit on Thursday morning in which he said he was confident the team would add pieces to help them be competitive.

18 Jul 2021The brooms come out against the Rangers, the Blue Jays are come back to Toronto, and more!00:30:04

The Blue Jays and kicking the crap out of the Texas Rangers — name a more iconic duo. We learned on Friday that the Blue Jays are FINALLY coming home on July 30!

The team seemed to be charged up by that so they went ahead and pounded the Rangers by a score of 10-2, powered by perhaps Vladdy's biggest homer of the season. The game on Saturday was rained out, which led to a doubleheader sweep on Sunday by scores of 10-0 and 5-0. All told, the Blue Jays outscored Texas 25-2 over the weekend. You love to see it. We talked about the good stuff from the series, which was literally everything, and then we talked about how good the vibes are going to be on July 30. I also made a bold prediction about who's going to be taking the mound for The Return.

20 Sep 2021Ep. 47: Hyun Jin Ryu's struggles, Gerrit Cole's spaz, Josh Donaldson's ovation, and more!00:43:35

Another series, another couple of wins for the Blue Jays! That's the way it's been for the past month-and-a-bit and the hope is that it continues as the Blue Jays head to The House of Horrors.

The Blue Jays got the job done this weekend, taking two of three from the lowly Minnesota Twins. Things started off ugly as Hyun Jin Ryu got knocked around on Friday but Steven Matz and Jose Berrios led the team to back-to-back wins on Saturday and Sunday, so all ended well.

We talked about Ryu's struggles, the "injury" that landed him on the 10-day Injured List, and what to expect from him moving forward. We also talked about Matz's excellent run and what it means for him in the off-season.

Finally, we talked about the Blue Jays lineup and why it needs to involve Alejandro Kirk more often than not. We then took a look at the out-of-town scoreboard and gave a hat tip to Cleveland, who did us a solid by beating the Yankees on Saturday and Sunday.

We finished off by talking about the series ahead against the Rays at The Trop, a place that's never fun to visit.

16 Mar 2022Ep. 63: Matt Chapman is a Blue Jay!!!00:41:50
This has certainly been a fun few days! Though it took a little while, the flurry of transactions following the new Collective Bargaining Agreement has finally arrived. The Blue Jays rounded out their starting rotation on Saturday, signing Yusei Kikuchi to a three-year deal. Then, on Wednesday, they made a big splash by trading for three-time Gold Glover winner Matt Chapman. So, all told, Robbie Ray, Marcus Semien, and Steven Matz are out, and Kevin Gausman, Chapman, and Kikuchi are in. We talked about the Chapman trade, which is hilariously similar to the Josh Donaldson one a few years ago, and what he'll bring to the team. We also looked at what might be next for the Blue Jays as the team is still in need of a left-handed bat and Jose Ramirez apparently remains a possibility.

28 Jan 2022Ep. 60: Flaws with the Hall of Fame, movement in negotiations, teeth, and more!00:50:16
We're getting closer and closer to the start of Spring Training and there's still no Collective Bargaining Agreement.    Fortunately, there's been some positive news lately that MLB and the Players' Association are slowly inching towards maybe possibly agreeing on something.    BK and I talked in this lockout edition of BJN Radio about what's happening in the negotiations and what changes we can realistically expect when a deal is reached. We also talked about the 2022 Hall of Fame class and our issues with Cooperstown.   Finally, we went into some Random Blue Jays Talk, in which we looked back at a hilariously bad lineup from 2019, Kevin Gausman not getting a contract offer from the Giants, and why the Blue Jays couldn't hit in the late innings.   We also fielded some questions, including one about teeth.

04 Jul 2021Ep. 27: Excellent starting pitching in a series win against the Rays, Liam Hendriks sounds off on Josh Donaldson, and more!00:28:11

Two out of three ain't bad.  The Blue Jays hosted Those Pesky Rays this weekend in Buffalo and nearly earned a sweep, picking up wins in the first two games but dropping the third on Sunday.

Alek Manoah had arguably the best start of any Blue Jay this season on Friday night, Ross Stripling was again excellent on Saturday, and Robbie Ray was great in the finale but the bats didn't show up. We talked about all that good stuff, argued about whether we can firmly call Ray the ace of the staff, and also talked about some bad stuff, like the ugly return of The Rafael Dolis Experience and some shoddy defence in the series finale.

Also, we talked about a story out of Chicago involving two members of the 2015 team. Liam Hendriks sounded off on Josh Donaldson, saying he didn't like what he saw behind the curtain when playing with The Bringer of Rain. Many have suggested the idea of a Donaldson return in order to fix the hole at third base, but this comment from Hendriks sheds some new light on that whole saga.

All that and more in a busy BJN Radio!

27 Sep 2021Ep. 49: There's no room left for error00:31:11

This weekend didn't go as planned. The Blue Jays managed a split against the Minnesota Twins while the Yankees rolled into Boston and pulled off a sweep. Toronto is now a game behind Boston for the second wild-card spot while the Yankees are a game up on the Red Sox for the top seed.

We talked about the series, going through the downs, such as Lourdes Gurriel's injury and the team's lack of clutch hitting, and then the ups, like Alek Manoah's huge start on Sunday and George Springer busting out of his slump upon his return to the outfield.  We also looked ahead to the final week of the season, which will feature a must-win series between the Blue Jays and Yankees in Toronto.

This is the first time the Yankees will be in Toronto in two years and the Blue Jays are opening capacity to 30,000 fans. There's a perfect opportunity for a storybook ending here.

07 Jun 2021Ep. 19 - We're done with the Astros00:31:16
Tyler and Cam are back with a fresh episode of BJN Radio to discuss the Jays dropping two of three to the Houston Astros this weekend. They kicked off the pod by talking about how boring the series was as a whole before getting into 3 up/3 down (pres. by Twig & Barry's) and discussing whether or not the Jays can return to Toronto this season. On top of that, they also looked at some prospects who are playing well this season and previewed the upcoming three-game set against the White Sox.

03 May 2021Ep. 9: The brooms come out against the Braves, a minor-league season preview, and more!00:45:51

Bring out the brooms, boys!

For the first time in 2021, the Blue Jays have swept a series, and it came against an impressive opponent in Alex Anthopolous' Atlanta Braves. Party like it's 1992!

We welcomed our good pal BK on this post-series episode and talked about how the lineup is finally firing on all cylinders with George Springer and Teoscar Hernandez back in the mix and whether or not this could be the start of a major run. We also talked about the most recent glut of injuries the team is facing, as Alejandro Kirk, Anthony Castro, and Tommy Milone went on the Injured List, while Springer is dealing with some kind of mysterious "fatigue" issue.

Finally, we looked ahead to the four-game series coming up in Oakland, went up and down Toronto's minor-league affiliates and talked interesting things to watch from them this season, and then went off on a random discussion about baseball in Vancouver and which time zone is the best for sports.

03 Jun 2022Let's go streaking! 00:30:12

The Blue Jays are on an eight-game winning streak!

After winning four in Anaheim, the Blue Jays returned to Toronto and took three of three from the struggling Chicago White Sox. Next up, another struggling team, the Minnesota Twins, and some more junk from the Central Division.

We recapped the series with the Sox and talked about how much more entertaining it is to watch this version of the team that can hit everything as opposed to the previous version of the team that couldn't hit at all. We also agreed that we'd take an early 2015/2021 style team that scores runs and blows leads over the limp bat team that can pitch.

After that, we took a look ahead to the upcoming series with the Twins, who are coming into Toronto shorthanded as four players are on the Restricted List and a few other key names are on the Injured List.

06 Jun 2022Jose Berrios' gem, the return of The Juiced Ball, Alejandro Kirk for the All-Star Game, and more!00:29:02

The Blue Jays' eight-game winning streak came to an end this weekend as the Minnesota Twins rolled into town and took two of three.

We talked about Kevin Gausman tipping his pitches, what Jose Berrios did differently in his gem, and some issues with the non-leverage guys in the bullpen. We also took a look at an interesting thread that indicates that the juiced ball might be back, which would help explain why the pitching has started to get a bit more rocky right as the bats have woken up.

Also, with All-Star Game voting right around the corner, we took a look at who could represent the Blue Jays at Dodger Stadium. We campaigned for Alejandro Kirk, who's cementing himself as one of the best catchers in baseball.

Finally, we took a look ahead at the upcoming three-game series in Kansas City, a place with terrible vibes.

That looked like it was going to be an all-time spanking but then, since it's Kansas City, things went a little goofy.

The Blue Jays won their first two games of the series by scores of 8-0 and 7-0 and then came out with a chance to sweep and laid an egg. Yusei Kikuchi got rocked and couldn't get out of the first inning and the bullpen has a tough time with the mess.

Two out of three ain't bad but it's hard to be all too thrilled with anything less than a sweep of arguably the worst team in baseball.

With Tyler away, me and BK talked about the Royals series and how they've fallen off a cliff since 2015. That led us into a random tangent about prospects that were traded away and a 2019 draft do-over. We also talked about when Gabriel Moreno will get called up and if we might see him join the team in Detroit.

13 Jun 2022Gabriel Moreno's debut, praise for Ross Stripling, and more!00:28:49

The Blue Jays' quest through the Central Division has come to an end.

With a two-of-three series win in Detroit, the Blue Jays went 8-5 against the White Sox, Twins, Royals, and Tigers.

We talked about Gabriel Moreno's big league debut and how a three-man catcher tandem might work if he plays too well to be sent down. We also talked about the excellent pitching the team has been getting from Ross Stripling while Hyun Jin Ryu is injured.

After that, we looked ahead to the first meeting of the season with the Trash Birds, who, unfortunately, are better this year than they have been in recent years.

17 Jun 2022The Trash Birds, an ode to Hyun Jin Ryu, Shohei Ohtani speculation, and more!00:42:17

That's absolutely not how you'd like for a series with the Baltimore Orioles to go.

We had this week circled on the calendar for quite some time as the Trash Birds came to town for the first time this season but the Orioles put up a good fight and wound up taking two of four. Next up, we have the New York Yankees, who are on pace to win 121 games this season. Fun stuff!

On this episode of BJN Radio, we talked about Hyun Jin Ryu's career as a Blue Jay possibly being over, who the team could look to acquire before the trade deadline, and whether a Shohei Ohtani trade is possible.

20 Jun 2022A feel-good win against the mighty Yankees, searching for bullpen help, and more!00:35:30

It's amazing how quickly things can change in baseball.

That really looked like it was going to be a completely miserable weekend as the Yankees were on their way to a three-game sweep in Toronto, but a grand slam and a three-run bomb completely changed everything.

Rather than rolling into a road trip having been swept by a team that looks uncatchable in the standings, the Blue Jays now get to roll with the swagger of a team that pulled off the biggest comeback against the Yankees this season.

We talked about the good vibes that came from Sunday's game and also touched on the unfortunate reality that the Yankees are incredibly good. We also looked at Jim Bowden's 125-player Trade Bait Board from The Athletic and speculated which arms could help the starting rotation and the bullpen.

Finally, we took a look ahead to the upcoming series against the White Sox, a team the Blue Jays swept earlier this season.

23 Jun 2022The Blue Jays need bullpen help, Yankees fans are mad about All-Star voting, and more!00:32:34

The Blue Jays are in a bit of a skid as they split a four-game series with the Orioles, got dropped by the Yankees, and then lost two of three to the White Sox.

In this episode of BJN Radio, we recapped the series with the White Sox and talked about how the Blue Jays are badly in need of some bullpen help. We also looked at the American League All-Star vote and why it's making Yankees fans so upset.

After that, we looked ahead to the upcoming series with the Milwaukee Brewers and took a look back at the Rowdy Tellez trade that happened just over one year ago.

27 Jun 2022What should the Blue Jays do about their starting pitching woes?00:27:05

The Blue Jays' starting pitching has become a problem.

After Alek Manoah cruised to a win on Friday night, Yusei Kikuchi and Jose Berrios were only able to go two innings each on Saturday and Sunday as the Blue Jays dropped two of three in Milwaukee.

On this episode of BJN Radio, we talked about Charlie Montoyo's comments about Kikuchi's performance, whether it might be time to give somebody else a look, and whether the front office should look to acquire a starting pitcher.

We then looked ahead at an incredibly important eight-game stretch against the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays this week.

30 Jun 2022Gearing up for a long weekend with the Tampa Bay Rays!00:24:14

The Blue Jays nearly pulled off a sweep of the Boston Red Sox this week but some bullpen struggles resulted in a loss in the finale.

Pitching will be important this weekend as the Blue Jays are set to host the Tampa Bay Rays for five games. Tampa is a game-and-a-half behind Toronto in the standings and are rolling into town limping through injuries.

On this episode of BJN Radio, we talked about the good and the bad from the Boston series and looked ahead to the five-gamer with the Rays.

04 Jul 2022Trading a catcher, checking in on former Blue Jays in Oakland, and more!00:25:59

The Blue Jays dropped their five-game series with the Rays and now they're off to the West Coast to play Oakland and Seattle.

In this episode of BJN Radio, we took a look back at the Rays series, which started off with a great Yusei Kikuchi performance and finished with depth arms throwing batting practice.

We then dove into a couple of rumours, as the Blue Jays are reportedly one of the teams in the mix for Kansas City's Andrew Benintendi while the Tigers are reportedly interested in Danny Jansen.

Finally, we looked ahead to the series in Oakland against the A's, who are in last place in baseball, and we took a look at how the players who were traded for Matt Chapman back in March are doing.

07 Jul 2022Mid-Season Report Cards!00:49:31

That's not how you'd like a series against the worst team in baseball to go!

The Blue Jays rolled into Oakland and dropped two of three against the A's as Alek Manoah and Yusei Kikuchi struggled and the bats went silent.

Now that we've just gone through the mid-way point of the season, we did report cards for five aspects of the team: starting pitching, the bullpen, offence, defence, and organizational depth.

After that, we looked ahead to the four-game set coming up with the Mariners, which will feature a lot of Western Canadian fans making the trip to Seattle.

11 Jul 2022Winless in Seattle00:30:24

The All-Star break can't come soon enough.

The Blue Jays rolled into Seattle after a disappointing series in Oakland and things got even worse, as the Mariners pulled off a four-game sweep. Toronto is now tied with Seattle for the final Wild Card spot in the American League while the Baltimore Orioles are suddenly right on the heels thanks to an eight-game winning streak.

We talked about the mess that was the Seattle series, how the Blue Jays can pull themselves out of this funk, and whether the solution is to make Charlie Montoyo the sacrificial firing.

14 Jul 2022The end of the Charlie Montoyo era00:31:10

Charlie Montoyo is out as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays and John Schneider is in.

The word after Montoyo got canned on Wednesday was that he had lost the room and that the players were frustrated by his upbeat, chill approach. We took a look at the situation, talked about whether it was right or not, and questioned why nothing about this rift in the room came out earlier.

After that, we looked ahead to the upcoming four-game series with the Kansas City Royals, who will be without a whopping 10 players because they can't enter Canada. That also brought up another discussion about how the Blue Jays are at a disadvantage when it comes to acquiring players ahead of the trade deadline.

20 Jul 2022 The 2022 MLB Draft!00:33:03

It was the Major League Baseball Draft this week so the Blue Jays added some new names to the prospect pool.

I was joined by BK and Brennan Delaney to talk about the selections that the Blue Jays made and what their overall strategy was at this year's draft. It was an especially loaded draft for the Blue Jays as they had two compensatory selections from Marcus Semien and Robbie Ray leaving in free agency.

After going through Toronto's top selections and some possible late-round gems, the three of us talked about the All-Star Game, what we'd move in a Juan Soto deal, and more!

25 Jul 2022An incredible weekend in Boston, speculating trade deadline strategy, and more!00:34:05

Can you remember a better series than the one we just witnessed?

The Blue Jays rolled into Fenway Park out of the All-Star break and pumped the Red Sox by a combined score of 40-10, shoving Boston to 48-48 on the season while taking control of the top wild-card spot in the American League.

We talked about all of the wild and fun things that happened in Boston over the weekend, including Raimel Tapia's inside the park grand slam and Alek Manoah sitting everyone down. We also looked at how the team could operate with the trade deadline right around the corner.

After that, we took a look ahead to the upcoming two-game set with the St. Louis Cardinals, who will be without their two best hitters.

28 Jul 2022A Split with St. Louis, which prospects are untouchable, and more!00:37:48

This was a jam-packed episode of BJN Radio.

We talked about the split with the St. Louis Cardinals, Jose Berrios finding his groove, Kevin Gausman and his terrible batted ball luck, and how the team is more aggressive on the bases with John Schneider managing. We also talked about Buck Martinez's return and why he's a Blue Jays Legend.

After that, we looked at the trade rumours that have been floating around the team and debated whether or not the Blue Jays should be willing to move their top prospects this year. Finally, we looked ahead to the upcoming four-game series with the miserable Detroit Tigers.

01 Aug 2022What are the Blue Jays going to do at the trade deadline? 00:35:51

The Blue Jays are rolling with the trade deadline right around the corner.

They just won three of four games against the Detroit Tigers, are 11-3 all told in the John Schneider era, and sit in the top wild-card spot in the American League.

We looked back at the Detroit series and talked about why Yusei Kikuchi's strong start was so important and how good Matt Chapman has been since the team traveled to Oakland. After that, we welcomed Michael Bradburn of The Score to the show to talk about what's going to happen ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday.

03 Aug 2022The winners and the losers of the 2022 MLB trade deadline00:39:37

The trade deadline has come and gone!

The Blue Jays added some depth to their team by acquiring relievers Anthony Bass and Zach Pop from the Marlins, infielder Whit Merrifield from the Royals, and swingman Mitch White from the Dodgers.

Tyler and BK went though everything that the Blue Jays did and discussed whether it's enough to get the team over the top. After that, they looked at what everyone else in the American League got up to and determined who the winners and losers were.

Finally, they talked about whether San Diego is the team to beat after trading for Juan Soto.

The Blue Jays earned a four-game split with the Twins in Minnesota over the weekend and they'll now hit the road to play the Orioles in Baltimore.

We looked back at the Minnesota series, the value that Whit Merrifield adds to the team, George Springer's injury, bullpen issues, and a whole bunch more. After that, we looked ahead to the upcoming series with Baltimore, a team who's doing much better than anybody expected.

11 Aug 2022The rain saves the Blue Jays from a possible sweep in Baltimore00:28:14

So much for all of those easy wins against the Trash Birds!

The Blue Jays rolled into Baltimore this week and dropped two games to the Orioles. The first was the result of a poor Yusei Kikuchi start and then the second one was the rest of a late-game bullpen meltdown. The sweep was avoided as the skies opened up and the third game was postponed due to rain.

In this episode of BJN Radio, we talked about the surprisingly good Orioles, Blue Jay Murder Ryan Mountcastle, potentially going with a six-man rotation once Ross Stripling is back from injury, and a whole bunch more!

17 Aug 2022Ross Stripling's gem, Yusei Kikuchi to the bullpen, and more!00:33:19

The vibes were very bad and suddenly they're good again. That's baseball, baby!

It was doom and gloom as the Blue Jays looked completely lifeless in losing the first two games of their series with the Baltimore Orioles but an incredible start from Ross Stripling and a late-game explosion offensively resulted in a momentum-changing win.

We talked about the Baltimore series, how the Orioles are becoming scary, how great Ross Stripling has been, the importance of George Springer to the lineup, and a whole bunch more. After that, we looked ahead to the upcoming four-game series with the struggling Yankees in New York.

22 Aug 2022The collapse of the New York Yankees!00:33:02

The New York Yankees had a 15.5 game lead in the American League East back in early July and that lead has slipped down to eight games after the Blue Jays took three of four last weekend in The Bronx.

We dug into New York's struggles, the great pitching that the Blue Jays got over the weekend, Aaron Boone's meltdown, Gerrit Cole picking a fight with Alek Manoah, and a whole bunch more.

After that, we looked ahead at the upcoming stretch of games that the Blue Jays have against the Red Sox, Angels, Cubs, and Pirates, and how they need to play well in order to give themselves a cushion down the stretch.

26 Aug 2022The sweep at Fenway, Julio Rodriguez's new contract, and more!00:38:35

After winning three of four games at The Bronx, the Blue Jays went into Boston and swept the Red Sox in a three-game series.

We had a Good Vibes Only episode recapping the sweep of the Sox and talked about Matt Chapman's amazing defence, the difference the bench has been making, how much better the bullpen has been since the trade deadline, and a whole bunch more.

After that, we talked about the long-term contract that Julio Rodriguez just signed with the Seattle Mariners and why the Blue Jays haven't inked Vladdy Jr. and Bo Bichette yet. We then looked around the American League and at the upcoming series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

29 Aug 2022Ep. 106: A lifeless effort against the Angels, Marcus Stroman's return to Toronto, and more!00:31:31

After winning six of seven on the road against the Yankees and Red Sox, the Blue Jays came home and got dominated in a three-game sweep by the Angels. That's not what you like to see!

We looked back at this series and talked about how the Blue Jays can go from looking like a team ready to go on a run to suddenly putting up a lifeless effort against a basement team. Is this just some mid-season fatigue? Or does this team lack something needed to be successful?

After that, we looked ahead at the three-game series with the Cubs, which will feature Marcus Stroman's first start in Toronto since he was traded back in 2019.

01 Sep 2022The Dog Days of Summer are over00:35:29

After an up-and-down month of August (well, months of April, May, June, July, and August, really), the Blue Jays are into September clinging to a playoff spot.

We talked about the series with the Chicago Cubs, which featured some clutch home runs and excellent relief appearances, but also left a sour taste behind as the Blue Jays weren't able to sweep a weak opponent.

After that, we talked about Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro both doing media rounds during the week and why the timing is a little strange. We also talked about the rosters expanding to 28 in September and what that means for the team.

Finally, we looked ahead to the three-game series in Pittsburgh this weekend and explained why we're feeling a wee bit nervous despite the fact the Pirates are very bad.

04 Sep 2022It wasn't pretty, but the Blue Jays got the job done against the Pirates00:28:49

It was a little more stressful than you'd like for a series with the basement-dwelling Pirates, but the Blue Jays came into Pittsburgh and pulled off a sweep.

We talked about Alek Manoah's excellent start on Friday night, Bo's putting together arguably the best at-bat we've seen from any Blue Jay this season in Saturday's win, and Jordan Romano coming through with a huge save on Sunday's afternoon.

After that, we looked ahead at the upcoming series with the Orioles, which is far more anxiety-inducing than we expected it would be back in April.

08 Sep 2022The Blue Jays reminded the Orioles that they're the Trash Birds00:36:15

Nobody expected these games against the Baltimore Orioles this month to matter as much as they do, but here we are.

The Blue Jays rolled into Baltimore with a two-and-a-half game lead over the Orioles in the Wild Card standings and extended it by taking three of four games in the series.

We talked about Bo Bichette's September Redemption Tour, Vladdy's struggles with getting the ball in the air (what is it, 2019?!?), and the excellent pitching performance the team got from Alek Manoah. We also talked about Bryan Baker's beef with the Blue Jays.

After that, we looked ahead to the team's three-game series with the Texas Rangers and how they can set themselves up for the five-game marathon series they'll have with the Tampa Bay Rays after that.

We looked back at the Tampa gauntlet series and talked about Bo Bichette's amazing ninth-inning battle, Vladdy Jr. busting out of his slump with his 100th homer, Mitch White coming through with some much-needed innings and where he fits into the team's plans, and a whole bunch more.

After that, we took a look around the American League and Toronto's upcoming series with the Baltimore Orioles.

20 Sep 2022Another series win over the Orioles, Mail Bag questions, and more!00:50:01

The Blue Jays have taken care of business against Baltimore this month, winning five of seven games with the pesky Orioles.

We took a look back at the weekend series with Baltimore, how their improvement is making the AL East even more crowded, and what we can expect from this budding rivalry moving forward. We also talked about the success the Blue Jays have had with bullpen games and how Raimel Tapia seems to have a knack for punching other teams in the gut.

After that, we took some Mail Bag questions, including what a Game Seven World Series lineup would look like and if there should be any worry about Jordan Romano in the playoffs. Finally, we looked ahead to the upcoming two-gamer with the Philadelphia Phillies and the four-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays after that.

22 Sep 2022Bullpen issues, Nate Pearson time, drama in Tampa, and more!00:37:53

It was another series that started off well but finished with a sour taste.

The Blue Jays rolled into Philly and popped off with 18 runs in the first game and then blew a late lead in the second game to ultimately wild up with a split.

We talked about the outburst from the bats, the meltdown from Julian Merryweather, whether or not it's time to bring up Nate Pearson, and the odd lousy luck Kevin Gausman has had this year. We also talked about whether we should be worried about Jordan Romano, who's now blown saves in back-to-back games for the first time in his big league career.

After that, we took a look around the American League as both the Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays are going cold down the stretch.

We talked about Jose Berrios' home and away splits and how he should be used come playoff time and Whit Merrifield being the dragon slayer at The Trop. We also talked about Alek Manoah's incredible start and whether the Blue Jays are right to line him up for Game 162.

After that, we took a look around the American League, as the Yankees are poised to clinch the AL East in Toronto and the Seattle Mariners are doing what they can to keep the Baltimore Orioles in the race.

30 Sep 2022Aaron Judge's home run, Buck Martinez's rant, Merry Clinchmas, and more!00:29:59

Just like last year, the Yankees rolled into Toronto for a key late-September series and took down the Blue Jays.

But, unlike last year, it didn't really matter all too much, as the Blue Jays wound up clinching a playoff spot during their subsequent off-day when the Orioles lost to the Red Sox. It was a fittingly anticlimactic way for the 2022 Blue Jays to clinch!

We took a look back at the Yankees series and talked about John Schneider's gutsy move to walk Aaron Judge and Vladdy's big walk-off hit shortly after. We also talked about Buck Martinez's rant about how the Blue Jays don't always show up to play and how we felt watching Judge hit home run No. 61.

After that, we looked at how things are shaping up in the wild-card race with the season coming to a close.

03 Oct 2022Digging into the Blue Jays' dominance of the Red Sox, the playoff roster, and more!00:32:12

Another series with the Red Sox, another spanking from the Blue Jays.

Toronto took care of business at home this weekend with a three-game sweep of Boston and things went their way in the out-of-town scoreboard, so home-field advantage in the wild-card round is looking likely.

We looked back at the series against the Red Sox and how absurdly dominant the Blue Jays were against them all season. After that, we took a look at what the Blue Jays' playoff roster should look like and where players like Lourdes Gurriel and Santiago Espinal fit given how well Ramiel Tapia and Whit Merrifield are playing.

After the long, winding road that was the 2022 season, here we are.

Toronto will host playoff baseball for the first time since 2016 when the Seattle Mariners come to town to play the Blue Jays in a three-game wild-card series.

We talked about the head-to-head between the Blue Jays and Mariners this season and how the two teams stack up in terms of offence and pitching. After that, we talked about who's primed for a big moment in these playoffs and we made predictions for the entirety of wild-card weekend.

07 Oct 2022It was never going to be easy!00:21:18

Well, that's not how we wanted to kick things off!

The hype at the Rogers Centre ahead of Game 1 of the wild-card series with the Mariners was incredibly high but Alek Manoah was tagged for three earned runs in the first inning. Luis Castillo, Seattle's big trade deadline addition, was dominant after that as the Mariners cruised to a 4-0 win.

We talked about Manoah's tough debut, the bats that looked totally lifeless, and how the Blue Jays can come back with Robbie Ray and Logan Gilbert in line to pitch in Game 2 and 3.

09 Oct 2022Dealing with heartbreak 00:36:17

What a strange movie that was.

After getting dominated in Game 1 of the wild-card series by Luis Castillo, the Blue Jays appeared to be running away with Game 2 as they tagged Robbie Ray and had an 8-1 lead in the sixth inning. But things went totally sideways after that, as the Mariners pulled off an epic rally to win the game 10-9 and take the series in a sweep.

We took a look back at the meltdown, where things went wrong, and why there's no single person to put the blame on. We then looked ahead to the off-season and whether the front office will be prepared to make a big move over the winter.

19 Oct 2022Three BOLD off-season predictions, thoughts on MLB's playoff format, and more!00:37:40

Though the playoff run ended very quicky, there's plenty to talk about in Blue Jays land.

We took a look back at Toronto's two-game sweep to Seattle in the wild-card series with a different perspective now that the 111-win Los Angeles Dodgers and 101-win Atlanta Braves also got dropped in five-game sets. Does it matter that the higher-seeded teams are losing if it adds more drama and excitement?

After that, we talked about off-season stuff, including whether Shohei Ohtani wants out of Anaheim, which Blue Jays could ink long-term contracts this winter, who the most realistic trade partners would be, and the arbitration projections MLBTR made for 13 players.

We also made three bold predictions for the off-season that we'll be sticking to no matter what!

We took a look at early free-agent speculation, the Blue Jays' decision to not issue Ross Stripling a qualifying offer, and the report that pretty much everyone around baseball expects Toronto to move one of their three catchers.

After that, we talked about the Bo Bichette for Ronald Acuna speculation that came out of nowhere and whether the general manager of the L.A. Angels is being honest when he says that the team won't be trading Shohei Ohtani this off-season.

16 Nov 2022Teoscar Hernandez trade reaction 00:29:46

The Blue Jays pulled the trigger on a big deal on Wednesday, sending Teoscar Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for reliever Erik Swanson and Adam Macko.

Teoscar had developed into an All-Star slugger and a beloved player during his career with the Blue Jays so seeing him go is a difficult pill to swallow. But that said, it was inevitable that changes were coming after Toronto's disappointing result during the post-season.

We talked about what the Blue Jays lost in Teoscar, what they gained in Swanson and Macko, and what we can expect to happen next.

09 Dec 2022The Blue Jays did nothing at the Winter Meetings. What's next???00:37:01

It's been a slow winter for the Blue Jays.

The Winter Meetings have come and gone, many of the big-name free agents are off the open market, and the only notable move that the Blue Jays have made is trading away Teoscar Hernandez.

We took a look at what went down in San Diego this week and what we can expect next from the Blue Jays. What do they need? Who's left on out there? Might they have to make a trade?

After that, we also talked about Aaron Judge's new contract with the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox opting to let Xander Bogaerts leave in free agency.

We're back! It's the middle of February but there's quite a bit of baseball stuff to talk about.

We also went over the addition of Chad Green, who inked one of the most unique contracts you'll ever see, along with the team's decision to release Matt Gage. We also spoke about the new dimensions at Rogers Centre, which will obviously benefit some of the Jays sluggers but could also be bad news for a few of their arms that have a tendency to give up the long ball. We wrapped up the show by discussing the changes being made to the Sportsnet broadcast team.
