National is scrambling to convince everyone that they are well costed and the tax cuts will pay for themselves Meanwhile the ghost of John Key has returned to show Mr Luxon how when you attempt a tax take that you subsequently find out won't work...you don't double down, you admit the error and move on. 07 Nov 2022 | #BHN Latest Newshub polls | Ryan Bridge can't hide disdain for Labour | #FreeGrahamPhilip...or not | 01:18:55
The latest Newshub political poll says National and ACT would be able to form a government should the election be today...I'm not quite so sure about that and wonder about the methodoligy of this research. We'll take a look at that tonight The PM was on the AM Show this morning and Ryan Bridge can't hide his distain for Labour, he managed to spin everything to be bad about Labour...house prices going up blame Labour, House prices coming down that's because we can blame Labour for inflation and it goes on and on and on. We'll look at that tonight. Graham Philip is said to be a hero who has been unfairly targeted by the Government for his views. He's been in prison for a long time waiting for his opportunity to make his case for innocence before a judge telling his supporters, of which he has raised thousands of dollars, he would never back down. Graham Philip has become the darling of many Alt-Right. Q-Anon conspiracy theories as his 'tall tale' fit their narrative. Finally when the #FreeGrahamPhilip demand was put to the test...Graham Philip pleads guilty on all charges.

19 Dec 2023 | #BHN Luxon learns te reo on the taxpayer, then pulls up another ladder for others to do the same | 00:11:15
Christopher Luxon has been proven a hypocrite again as he's telling public servants who want to learn te-reo that they should pay for it themselves, while he is having his lessons free, paid for by the taxpayer. National is trying to pivot saying they were only talking about bonuses but it's just another example of Luxon saying one thing, and doing the other. Whether it's "helping rich people buy Teslas" or this current debacle, it seems this government has already started a trend of do as I say, not as I do. ================================================ Come support the work we're doing by becoming a Patron of #BHN www.patreon.com/BigHairyNews Merch available at www.BHNShop.nz Like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/BigHairyNews Follow us on Twitter. @patbrittenden @Chewie_NZ

29 Sep 2022 | #BHN Kelvin Davis in hot water | Maori Party website deemed 'racist' | Women's Sport | The three strikes law | 01:12:23
Just Pat and Nala tonight so a lot on the agenda to get us through along with opening up Discord if you want to come in for a chat https://discord.gg/duFfVwQT Kelvin Davis in hot water with his "you're not Maori enough" comment to Maori Act MP Karen Chhour The case of the 'Three Strikes Kisser' Daniel Fitzgerald has brought into focus the danger of the extreme punitive law, especially on the vulnerable and mentally ill. We'll look at this tonight. Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon has said that statements on the Maori Party website claiming that Maori were "genetically superior" have been deemed 'racist' by him. Excite is building in some corners for the Women RWC but with only 3,000 spectators at a recent game we wonder what is the state of Women's Sport and where should it be And maybe a quick look at the low voter turn out for local body elections and how that helps the right when it comes to elections

New gang laws are before the select committee currently. Criminal lawyer Arama Ngapo is submitting on behalf of people associated with the Mongrel Mob and argues these laws could disproportionately affect some groups. The Opposition says proposed changes to the Resource Management Act (RMA) reflect "an absurd dereliction of duty" from the Government. It's ANZAC Day today and we're taking a look at the idea, and maybe where is the line, between honouring and commemorating those that have fought and died in wars and the very close resemblance to that when the glorification of war becomes paramount on this day. Tucker Carlson Gone from Fox, Don Lemon gone from CNN. Why have these two leading broadcasters and cable news stalwarts both been given their marching orders out of the blue, on the same day. Heeeeee's back! Donald Trump announces his bid today to get back into the White House in Jan 2025...it was as mad as you would think, and we'll have a look at it tonight Christopher Luxon's had to u-turn today as he forgot his policy in an AM Show interview then revealed his what he actually meant to say was already a u-turn on previous statement. Luxon has also had to backtrack significantly this afternoon as he appears to be blaming principals for truancy at their school leading to speculation about what National would implement when it comes to rewarding 'good' school and what metric they would use to measure that Tracey Barnett has been a contributing commentator and columnist for The New Zealand Herald, The Sunday Star Times, TV3, TVNZ, Newstalk ZB, bFM and Radio Live, among many others. 22 Jun 2022 | #BHN Susie Ferguson vs Christopher Luxon, Cornel West on politics and the latest from Uvalde | 01:13:13
Susie Ferguson obliterates Christopher Luxon in a must hear conversation when Mr Luxon tells the RNZ audience all the things that the health system needs to change that are poor under the Labour government, but when Susie presses him on how to make those changes and how to pay for them, Mr Luxon comes up a little short on depth.
Cornel West on Bill Maher and the importance of absolutism when it comes to your vote and how we should never be forced to settle for a 'milk toast' politician and/or policy. We chat about this and also wonder where the line is of standing by your principles and playing politics to attempt to get the end result you are looking for.
Shocking new revelations from the Uvalde massacre where we learn today that the police are actively covering up their inadequacies and ineptitude. It says the measures will help tackle retail crime but the changes have been slated by business lobby groups — including the Employers and Manufacturers Association and Retail NZ — who say it could lead to violence. It might be saving money, but the social impact of David Seymour’s new school lunch initiative is proving costly in some of our most deprived communities. 28 Mar 2023 | #BHN Winston's war on woke | Mike Williams on National Standards | Luxon wants an apology | 01:19:03
BREAKING: Stuart Nash sacked and David Farrier's latest Webworm may find Sean Plunket in legal trouble...more to come... Winston Peters appeared on The Nation in the weekend and declared a "war on woke" along with many other non-issues and when challenged about his rhetoric went all "winston" on the interviewer and attempted to change the narrative of the conversation...right up until he was reminded one very important fact about the dreaded Labour Government that he is rallying against currently. We'll show you what that fact is tonight. Mike Williams comments on Winston Peters appearance on The National and delivers a devastating rebuke to the National Party and their responsibilities for where 15 year olds are at in their education right now. Christopher Luxon wants an apology issued from Marama Davidson to apologise to the people she offended with her comments — white cisgender men...all of them. 22 Jan 2024 | #BHN Debbie Ngarewa Packer on the National Hui | Nat's 'Advice' Hypocrisy | Review of holiday news | 01:14:58
There is a sound issue for the first 5mins 43secs then fine. Live at 9pm, Debbie Ngarewa Packer joins us to talk about the National Hui over the weekend. What are her takeaways and where to from here especially in the lead up to Ratana and Waitangi Day National is not following official advice on anything from Fair Pay Agreements, to Regulatory Impact Statements and now to the Treaty referendum, and that may be something people are ok with, new government, new way of doing things...except they were very critical of Labour for...you guessed it...not following official advice. Chloe Swarbrick and Brook van Velden were on Breakfast this morning talking the treaty referendum, we'll cover that off as well. We'll take a look at some of the big stories, and a couple that just took our fancy whilst we were away on a break. 24 Jul 2023 | #BHN Kiri Allan resigns as Minister | Co-Governance protestor assaulted | Elon's branding change | 01:18:20
There is still some mystery around the final details of the accident that led to Minister Kiri Allan resignation as Justice Minister. What does this mean for Labour and the upcoming election? What questions does this raise for the mental and emotional health and well being of MPs? Victoria Jakobs protested one of Julian Batchelor's co-governance meetings and was dragged out of the meeting by her legs with someone screaming that they should "pull her pants down". Is this an assault? Will there be any actions taken against Victoria? Against the men who dragged her out? In a bizarre decision, Elon Musk has taken one of the strongest things about Twitter, it's name recognition and branding, and decided for no apparent reason to change it. +++++++++++++++ Come support the work we're doing by becoming a Patron of #BHN https://www.patreon.com/BigHairyNews Like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/BigHairyNews Follow us on Twitter. @patbrittenden @Chewie_NZ

National Corp has signaled that they are going to run the country as a business with CEO Christopher Luxon passing out his KPI targets to his department heads. Former Minister of Maori Affairs under a Jim Bolger, and a member of both NZ First and National Tau Henare joins us tonight to talk about what the current Government looks like compared to National and NZ First Governments that he was a part of. Seems pretty clear that Joe Biden will be dropping out of the race for President and his likely successor will be Kamala Harris. This might not be to most peoples liking, but there are some very good reasons why she is the most likely nomination to put at the head of the ticket. Happy Invasion Day Australia. Thousands of Australians attended 'Invasion Day' protests today to support Indigenous Australians during the controversial public holiday. Tova says 'Fuck the trolls' because they don’t count. They scream into a vacuum and people far better than them don’t hear their shrill cries. COVID needs to be a disability says some experts. National is speaking with one voice, that maybe certain government departments and entities are "not the best" at managing the work they do on infrastructure. 22 Aug 2023 | #BHN Representation versus appropriation | Do kiwi's want free dental care? | Bub-buy vape stores? | 01:18:36
There is a lot of chatter on the internet at the moment about representation in film versus appropriation based around Bradley Cooper, playing Jewish composer Leonard Bernstein whilst not being Jewish himself. There are many people in society that would abhor playing a minority when the actor is not part of that community, but there was no issues with Bradley Cooper playing Bernstein. Let's look at this and see what people think. TVNZ released another night of polls asking if kiwi's want free dental care and a wealth tax. Labour makes a pledge to reduce the number of vape stores by about 90% which poses the question if vaping is so harmful, why not just ban it. With Labour looking at an uphill battle to election, not impossible, but uphill...if someone floated the idea of a rolling the leader...I wonder if it would fall on fertile ground? David Seymour sent out a fearmongering email after Monday's TVNZ poll stating that Labour "should be banished" warning his supporters that Labour "could be back." Also Christopher Luxon was on Breakfasttalking about the poll making light of the situation which is, on some level, true as the poll doesn't change who is in parliament, but his faux CEO positive bravado couldn't hide the truth that what the poll did do is show what the public think of the NActNZ Government at the moment and it's not a great look for them. ===================================== Come support the work we're doing by becoming a Patron of #BHN www.patreon.com/BigHairyNews Merch available at www.BHNShop.nz Like us on Facebook www.facebook.com/BigHairyNews Follow us on Twitter. @patbrittenden @Chewie_NZ

Sean "Karen' Plunket's 'standard' for evidence to support his narrative is next to 'none needed' whereas his 'standard' to disregard an opposing view is 'public money' and we see this again when he's talking about the Atlas Network and Mihingarangi Forbes' interview with David Seymour National's beneficiary plans are clear as Louise Upston talked about in the weekend's Q&A programme, they want fewer people on the job seeker benefit. The problem is unemployment numbers are currently increasing, which means the only way you can have more unemployed, but fewer on the job seeker, then you have to just drop people off it anyhow you can. Tonight we want to show you the lessons that James O'Brien has shown his audience over Brexit and how a sector of the population regrets what they did. The reason we're showing this to you is that this will happen for a sector of NZ who voted for this new government when they realise what they voted for is not what they got.

07 May 2024 | #BHN Harm Reduction Coalition Aotearoa | Julie Anne Genter speaks | National's Prison number fluff | 01:18:51
Wendy Allison, Founder of Harm Reduction Coalition Aotearoa, joins us tonight to chat about the official launch today, on International Harm Reduction Day. HRCA seeks a new fit-for-purpose drug law for Aotearoa New Zealand, rooted in science, experience and evidence, to promote harm reduction and protect human rights as originally recommended by the NZ Law Commission in 2011. A TVNZ scoop as Political Editor Maiki Sherman spoke to Green MP Julie Anne Genter as she prepared to fly to the Chatham Islands. It was the MP's first time speaking publicly since she confronted National's Matt Doocey in Parliament. Mark Mitchell and PM Christopher Luxon's muffing the numbers at a press conference yesterday over Waikeria Prison. Storm in a teacup...or are the media right to criticise? The Prime Minister's office got a $50,000 makeover and some critics are saying it's bad optics in a cost of living crisis when National is laying off public servants left right and centre. Two particular areas of interest are the foreign buyers fee and what'll do to the housing market and who is actually getting the best break with these proposed tax cuts. We're also interested in looking at the narrative that National has come up with, doubling everything to "fortnightly" and the main stream media just running with it, which in turn, just sells the National narrative and makes the cuts look more impressive. 10 Aug 2022 | #BHN Trump raid and fall out | GOP cries foul | Uffindell got even more disgusting today | 01:12:05
Fall out from the FBI raid of Donald Trump's Mar ra Lago home continued today with many GOP politicians and commentators calling the action "Gestapo' like and 'un-American'...lets investigate those claims
We also find out today allegations of National MP Sam Uffindell continued to be a disgusting, self entitled, privileged dirt bag well beyond his previous mark of getting his life together at 16 with witnesses and corroborating testimony that he continued to be a bully and violent whilst at Otago University. Seem National was prepared to stand beside the violent 16 year old Uffindell, but not the 19 year old one as we all know 22 years means you can turn your life around...but 19 years ago you have to be thrown under the bus

Jones also refused to confirm the Govt was still going to double renewable energy generation leading to cries of yet another broken promise A Corrections fund to help former prisoners remove gang-related hand and face tattoos is almost depleted. 15 Sep 2022 | #BHN Good day for Grant Robertson | Karen Plunket's latest culture war topic | New World vs the Human Rights Commission | 01:12:22
A New World supermarket in Palmerston North has potentially been breaking the law by enforcing rules that only allow English to be spoken on the shop floor and in the lunchrooms. We were wondering when Palmerston North travelled back to the 1950s as we can't remember any news of a time machine recently. It's a very good day for Finance Minister Grant Robertson as NZ narrowly misses a recession...this time around...and all the regular nay-sayers have come out giving Labour absolutely no credit for the response...makes us ponder if they would have blamed Labour if a recession had hit? The live action Little Mermaid remake is starring 22-year-old Halle Bailey who is black. The Government announced the 'Entrenchment' clause is gone burger and spent time today explaining it was the Greens clause, it was a mistake we tried to push it, we've admitted the mistake so nothing to see here...but is there anything to see? Is that it done and dusted or is there more dust to settle?
