01:42:58
Episode 18 - Show Notes
Melbourne is back in COVID-19 lockdown & so is the Beer O'Clock Australia Podcast. Hopefully the podcast brings you more joy than lockdown... Hope everyone out there is coping with the constantly evolving situation we all find ourselves in. We've got a bumper episode for you all this week!
If this is your first time listening to a Beer O'Clock Australia podcast, welcome! We change the segments up a little each month, however most months we'll discuss some of the latest news from the beer world, we'll talk about some beers that we've been enjoying over the last month & we'll crack something interesting from my cellar.
This month there was a heap of news to get through, highlighted (lowlighted?) by the recent mainstream coverage of Blackhearts & Sparrows decision to stop stopping Colonial Brewing beers because of the connotations of the name. We feature our first ever interview on the podcast, with Dan Taranto from The Otter's Promise talking about the impact of COVID-19 on his business. We also managed to slot a Ukrainian lager into the Ranking of Lagers as well as discussing Range Brewing at length. Hope you all enjoy!

Episode 37 - A Post Hiatus Epic
01:58:29
Welcome back to the Beer O'Clock podcast, it's been a long, long time between drinks! I've had an incredibly hectic last couple of months, which has seen the podcast, & the website for that matter, fall by the wayside a little. This may be our most out of date episode ever - as seen by the insert for breaking news we put in from almost 2 months ago...

We change the segments up a little each month, however most months we'll discuss some of the latest news from the beer world, we'll talk about some beers that we've been enjoying over the last month & we'll crack something interesting from my cellar. This episode we cover, in true Beer O'Clock fashion, plenty of (very) outdated news, wrap-up 6 months of brewing awards, check out a new Victorian brewery, take a brewery tour of Adelaide & add a Israeli lager to the Ranking of Lagers & drink something from the back of the cellar!

If you're listening to this somewhere with access to a screen, I'd highly recommend having some of these links open:
There we have it guys, hopefully you enjoyed our analysis of the Hottest 100 beers of 2019. As discussed in the podcast it's a poll that gets unfairly derided from certain sections of the craft beer community. I think it has plenty of merit, as it provides a good snapshot of what people outside the tiny inner bubble are enjoying.

Episode 15 - The End's Not Near, It's Here
01:07:30
Welcome to another episode of the Beer O'Clock Australia podcast. It's our first podcast that we've done remotely, so apologies if there are a few teething issues- although Dylan's done a really good job of editing as usual & we're happy with the results. We'll fine tune the process over the next couple of episodes while we keep trying to bring you content whilst still confined to our respective houses.
If this is your first time listening to a Beer O'Clock Australia podcast, welcome! We change the segments up a little each month, however most months we'll discuss some of the latest news from the beer world, we'll talk about some beers that we've been enjoying over the last month & we'll crack something interesting from my cellar.
This month we covered the latest COVID-19 beer related news as well as some news from before the world changed irrevocably. We discussed our work trip to the Gold Coast, which involved a lot of beers after the actual work got done, talked about some local new beers & added a new beer to our Ranking of Macro Lagers. We finish off with a Cellar segment with a twist, as we obviously couldn't be in the same room to share a beer.
Slowly this down for obvious reasons; this month we slot Stella Artois into the rankings
The new rankings are as follows:
Pilsner Urquell (Czech Republic)
Tennent's (Scotland)
Carlsberg (Denmark)
Quilmes (Argentina)
Kingfisher (India)
Gullmack (Norway)
Sapporo (Japan)
Birra Moretti (Italy)
Corona (Mexico)
Steinlager (New Zealand)
Heineken (Netherlands)
San Miguel (Philippines)
Cantina (El Salvador)
Stella Artois (Belgium)
Tusker (Kenya)
Skopsko (North Macedonia)
Tiger (Singapore)
Karlovacko (Croatia)
Singha (Thailand)
Red Stripe (Jamaica)
Vonu (Fiji)
Cusquena (Peru)
Noz's Cellar (55:18)
We're delving into both of our cellars this month
Noz has a Wildflower Amber Batch 24
Dylan has a Wildflower Amber Batch 23
Compared to tasting notes
That's it for another month on the Beer O'Clock Australia podcast. Considering the challenges thrown our way I think this turned out pretty well. We've got some new equipment in bound, which should make our next episode sound a little cleaner as well as giving us the option to record interviews out & about if we go down that route in the future. As usual emails are welcomed with any comments/questions at gus.norris7@gmail.com

Welcome back to the Beer O'Clock podcast, it's been a long, long time between drinks! I've had an incredibly hectic last couple of months, which has seen the podcast fall by the wayside a little. Episode 51 - Snap Back to Reality
01:07:38
Welcome back to the Beer O'Clock podcast, it's been a long, long time between drinks! It feels like every month I'm apologizing for how hectic it's been around here - but maybe that is just the new normal... With any luck this is the first of a few episodes that we get out roughly a month or so apart.
If this is your first time listening to a Beer O'Clock Australia podcast, welcome! We change the segments up a little each month, however most months we'll discuss some of the latest news from the beer world, we'll talk about some beers that we've been enjoying over the last month & we'll crack something interesting from my cellar. This episode we cover, in true Beer O'Clock fashion, plenty of (very, very) outdated news, provide our thoughts on the Hottest 100, roll out the scouting report & discuss some of the beers and trends we've noticed so far in 2023.

Episode 14 - Before the World Shut Down
01:18:04
What a difference a month makes! We recorded this episode in late February when the novel coronavirus COVID-19 was just starting to enter the consciousness. It's amazing how much our world has changed... In any case, I hope all of you out there are looking after yourselves & isolating appropriately.
If this is your first time listening to a Beer O'Clock Australia podcast, welcome! We change the segments up a little each month, however most months we'll discuss some of the latest news from the beer world, we'll talk about some beers that we've been enjoying over the last month & we'll crack something interesting from my cellar.
This month we reverted to form. We covered the news (pre COVID-19), we discussed a couple of cracking new Victorian beer releases as well as our impending trip to the Gold Coast (which will be covered on the next episode). We added 3 more beers to our ranking of lagers, it's quite long this month after some debates were entered, as well as our Desert Island 6-pack reappearing in the form of beers released in 2019. As usual we finish of with a bottle from my cellar. Hope you enjoy the episode!

If this is your first time listening to a Beer O'Clock Australia podcast, welcome! We change the segments up a little each month, however most months we'll discuss some of the latest news from the beer world, we'll talk about some beers that we've been enjoying over the last month & we'll crack something interesting from my cellar, although recent restrictions are making this difficult...
This episode we were able to catchup between lockdowns & managed to bring back two of our most loved segments; the cellar - this time raiding Dylan's cellar - & the desert island 6-pack, where we pick our favourite Victorian Brewpubs. There's also the usual stuff like outdated, only minorly this time, news from around the brewing world and the ranking of lagers. There is plenty of good content so get stuck in!

This episode is very much a classic Beer O'Clock Australia Podcast; it's late, it's long & it's pretty good (if we do say so ourselves!). There's a whole heap of outdated news that we get our teeth stuck into, we talk about finally being able to get back to beer events as well as some of the great new beers available last month. Finally we finish off by clearing some beers out of my fridge that have been there since early-March, by adding 3 beers to our Ranking of Lagers & also cracking a cellar beer. Hope you enjoy!

Episode 29 - A Good Beer Week & A Bad Little Lockdown
01:16:41
As I said last month, with any luck, one day soon, you'll see a Beer O'Clock post that isn't just a new podcast episode... Lots of stuff is going on behind the scenes, 5 or 6 posts are nearing completion, which will hopefully turn into a rush of posts in the not too distant future. Hopefully you enjoy the episode!
This episode is more timely than some of our recent efforts. There is a mountain of news to get through, due to the length of time between recording our news segments. We discuss our various Good Beer Week shenanigans as well as some of the beers we've enjoyed recently & add the national beer of Serbia to our Ranking of Lagers.

Belgian Beer: From a Garage to Ashmore with Annelies Nijskens (Madocke)
00:23:23
I hope those of you who have been able to get to Melbourne have enjoyed the triumphant return of Good Beer Week. We've got a special interview for you today with one of the country's up and coming breweries, that many of you outside the Gold Coast will never have heard of; Madocke. Special thanks to Dylan for conducting this interview in my absence & to Annelies for giving up some of her evening to have a chat.
Her story (& husband Jimmy's) from Belgium to one of the most unusual breweries you've seen to a soon to open brewery & taproom in Ashmore is one of the most unique in an industry where stories often seem to be cut from the same cloth. With the opening of their new facility I think people beyond the Gold Coast will soon be hearing a log more about these fantastic people making wonderful beer!

All Things Bright Brewery with Evin Craney
00:30:24
As a special Grand Final Eve eve treat we have an interview for you all! We've been meaning to get Evin on the podcast for a couple of months to discuss Bright's Paktech Recycling Initiative. For a multitude of reasons it got delayed until we managed to catchup over Zoom this week. It worked out in our favour as we were able to have a far more wide reaching chat than we were initially intending. Evin is a seriously passionate guy & it comes across really well. In this chat we cover a wide range of topics from sustainability & recycling, staff injuries, Bright's evolving position in the market through 15 years of operation, COVID's impact on the business & so much more. We hope you enjoy!

Episode 25 - The Late Hottest 100 and Ballarat Blues
01:09:28
This episode is very much a classic Beer O'Clock Australia Podcast; it's late, it's long, there's minor technical difficulties (hopefully not too noticeable) & it's pretty good (if we do say so ourselves!). There's a whole heap of very outdated news, we discuss the Hottest 100 results & talk about some new beers & breweries we've visited, what a joy being able to do that again! Due to being a bit time poor we remotely add just one lager to our Ranking of Lagers segment. Hope you enjoy!

Episode 1
00:52:10
The new venture I was being very vague about in my post a few days ago was Beer O'Clock Australia's first foray into a new medium; audio. Dylan & I are going to give this podcast a go for a while and see how it goes. It's going to give us the opportunity to discuss beer in a way that the blog doesn't really allow us to.
We're going to rotate some segments in and out, especially early on while we get into the swing of things - so if there is anything you love or hate, please let us know! The idea at the moment is that the podcast will be monthly, and we'll try and keep that pretty regular - at least more so than I've kept the blog up to date recently... Basically every month we'll discuss some of the latest news from the beer world, we'll talk about some beers that we've been enjoying over the last month & we'll crack something interesting from my cellar.
This month we also discuss the hottest new style in craft beer; the Brut IPA. We also speak about a bright green licorice flavoured Gose from Red Button Brew in Moscow & discuss which Pilsner's we would each take in a bottomless mixed 6-pack to a desert island. The show is embedded below & hopefully we'll have it up on a few more podcast sites in the near future.
Victory Prima Pils, Panhead Port Road Pils, Balter Pilsner, Hop Nation The Damned, Weihenstephaner Pilsner, Mikkeller American Dream
Noz's Cellar
Mikkeller x Lindeman's SpontanBasil
So there we have it guys. Hope you liked the first episode of the Beer O'Clock podcast. We'd both love to hear any feedback you've got. We'll be tweaking a couple of things for the next episode, which we'll aim to have out in late-August/early-September. As usual send any questions or comments to gus.norris7@gmail.com.
