13 Jul 2021 | Ivan Butina leads the #KM effort at UNICEF | 00:21:53
BYNTK with Ivan Butina
Ivan encountered KM in 2013, when he used his community building and communication background on a World Bank Group (WBG) project aimed at improving knowledge sharing. For a year he only flirted with KM, committing to it fully in 2014. At the WBG Ivan focused mostly on community management and communities of practice (CoPs). He created and led the organization's first community management training, the CoP program, and the first centralized community management team. Because of his passion for community building, in 2018 he took Harvard's Leadership, Organizing and Action course on community organizing. He introduced some of its key concepts to the WBG's KM community and CoP program just before leaving the organization. He joined UNICEF in December 2018. Here he has been coordinating the development and now implementation of the organization's first global KM strategy and has been using some community organizing in doing so. Ivan holds a master's degree from Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

03 Sep 2021 | Try out Speed Learning as a culture enhancer with Lloyd Lawrence | 00:18:10
Lloyd has been a knowledge management practitioner for seven years, after discovering it in 2014. Prior to this Lloyd had a solid background in IT support, spanning over 20 years in a wide range of industries and multi-national organizations.
Having experienced the success that knowledge management brought to an IT support team in Airbus Australia Pacific, Lloyd found his new passion! He took up an opportunity to perform knowledge management at an organizational level for Airbus in Australia when they upgraded their ISO9001 standard to the 2015 version. This involved his first foray into developing a Knowledge Management framework. This framework included tools that help an organization preserve knowledge when staff exit, prevent costly re-work, reduce organizational risk, fast track projects and unblock tasks holding staff up.
In Lloyd’s current capacity working for a state government agency in Australia, he continues to hone his knowledge management skills while coordinating knowledge flows and facilitating sessions to improve support outcomes, build working relationships across teams and geographies, unblock tasks and preserve organizational knowledge. In this time, he has also been called upon in a consulting capacity by other Australian State Government agencies and even Auckland Police in New Zealand.
Outside of work, Lloyd likes to contribute to global knowledge management sessions and initiatives and is very passionate about permaculture and traditional food preparation methods such as dehydrating, fermenting, sprouting and sourdough…though perhaps not so successful at times!

09 Apr 2023 | The Epic Journey of Organizational Discovery with Kurt Conrad | 00:26:49
Kurt drove away from New College of Florida for the last time with the phrase “organizational therapy” rolling around in his head. He left in his wake; many Rancid City Improvisational theater shows and an accidental college food-service boycott. He returned to DOE's Richland Laboratory to continue his work starting up the Fast Flux Test Facility, a sodium-cooled research reactor. When he drove away from the nuclear reactor for the last time, the personnel airlock was not breaking down every few weeks. The Camrol bearings rolled much-more smoothly.
Kurt has started up training programs, support organizations, planning groups, and many of the organizational and technology-development projects that flowed from them. These projects have synthesized lessons learned across the energy, high-tech, transportation, pharmaceutical, education, publishing, and political sectors. His current focus is on: Values-based decision making Infrastructures for collaborative, bottom-up conversations and negotiations Nurturing grassroot organizations, communication networks, and publishing pipelines Facilitating policy and knowledge architecture discussions Building operational solutions to speed intelligent behaviors Contributing his cello/ piccolo-bass hybrid to improvisational musical ensembles
From research reactors to research documentation, Kurt gets people on the same page and gets things rolling. The reviews tell the story. “Anyone could learn from you.” “It was like we worked together for years” “I should be talking with you more.” “You always come up with something” “It's never the same way twice.” “They play better when you're here.”

Doug Smith
Doug Smith is the architect of Performance-Driven Change and Cohort Approach to scaling change. He is a former McKinsey & Company partner and author of books ranging from 19th century African history to the birth of the information age to managing change to the classic text about teams to a moral philosophy for the 21st century. Performance-Driven Change, like Strategic Doing, is grounded in core principles required to address complex problems and collaborations. The tools and methods have been used to drive both performance (real results) and change (new capabilities) across more than sixty different industries and fields – at both the enterprise as well as entire field level.
Ed Morrison
Ed Morrison is co-CEO of Strategic Doing Networks and Senior Research Fellow of The Conference Board. He developed Strategic Doing, a discipline to accelerate collaboration and innovation in open, loosely connected networks. He is co-author of the book, Strategic Doing: Ten Skills for Agile Leadership (Wiley, 2019).
Ed started his career in Washington, DC, where he was legislative assistant to an Ohio congressman, staff attorney in the Office of Policy Planning for the Federal Trade Commission, and a staff member for the Senate Democratic Policy Committee. In that role, he managed floor legislation involving tax, trade, and competitiveness.
He then joined a corporate strategy consulting firm, where he conducted strategy studies for large companies like Ford, Volvo, and General Electric. After this work, Ed consulted with communities and regions on how to tackle the complex challenges of building a prosperous economy in an era of globalization. Frustrated with existing approaches to these issues, more than 25 years ago he began working on Strategic Doing. Over 2,000 practitioners have taken the basic course, and the discipline, which can be taught in multiple languages, is spreading globally.
Ed began his academic career in 2003 as director of the Center for Regional Economic Issues at Case Western Reserve University. In 2005, he moved to Purdue University, where he was a member of the professional staff at the Purdue Center for Regional Development. In 2016, he founded the Agile Strategy Lab at Purdue. ROM turned out to be one of the biggest KM firms worldwide, nowadays with 40 employees daily serving KM organizations worldwide. These methodologies, based on fieldwork, were later the basis for her research papers and books, having nowadays over 1,000 citations. In 2017 Moria Levy was included in the Journal Impact Factor of Thomson Reuters.
Dr. Levy led the first worldwide initiative of a KM standard: the Israeli KM standard SII25006. This standard was published In 2012 and was the foundation on which KM in Israel later developed. Business developer, coach, mentor, project director and practitioner able to deal at all levels of organizations. Proficient in turning around under-performing businesses and helping people to realize their potential.
I enjoy helping organizations to improve the way they work and to equip people to make better decisions.
My background is financial yet eclectic: I spent 25 years in the City as Senior Manager at Saudi International Bank and as a Vice President at Zurich Reinsurance. I was an early pioneer of intranets in the mid 90's, one of the first 'knowledge managers' in the city of London
In 1998 I embarked on a portfolio career that encompassed, consultancy, coaching and pro bono charitable work.
During that time, I have been Strategy & Business Advisor to the CEO of a dotcom software organization (Sopheon PLC) for 3 years, Information & Knowledge Advisor to the CEO of a leading reinsurance broker (BMS Group) for 7 years and Managing Partner of a successful consulting organization, Sparknow LLP from 2008-2012. In 2014 I was a founding Trustee of PlanZheroes a UK Charity.
In 2017 I was invited to become Knowledge & Information Management Ambassador for The Chartered Institute of Libraries & Information Professionals (CILIP) a Charitable organization to help further the global cause of the KM profession through the development of a Chartership Accreditation Programme. From January 2020 I was appointed President Elect.
I’ve worked for clients in the energy, industrial, government, development and transport sectors leading assignments in Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Europe and Middle East.
Diplomacy intrigues me. I am a member of the Royal Institute for International Affairs (Chatham House) and of the Institute of Directors.
I am an author, I run Masterclasses and speak at international events on information and knowledge management. A member of the British Standards Institute KM Standards Committee (KMS/1), I was also a visiting lecturer on Brighton University's MBA on Knowledge & Innovation.
I’ve been the Chairman of a golf club and the Manager of a football club both of which taught me the need for effective stakeholder engagement at a young age.

Jort de Vries is a scholar, researching the integration of knowledge in Marine Spatial Planning policy and maritime development for his PhD at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands.
Jort also works as an advisor at Deltares, a Dutch company at the forefront of knowledge production concerning coastal, water, maritime and general delta management.

"The life and death of Great American cities. by Jane Jacobs"
A book which demonstrates the Dutch way of looking at space is: "environmental planning in the Netherlands, Too good to be true". by Gert de Roo.

25 May 2024 | Knowledge Big, Small, and Somewhat Miniature with Laurie Sisson | 00:37:04
Hello, my name is Laurie Sisson .Dollmaking has been a large part of my life for many years. I invented "The Foot" which allows dollhouse dolls to stand without doll stands and look more lifelike because they can bend at the knee and hip. All of the individually sculpted dolls I create are made with The Foot. Making One Inch Scale Character dolls led to making smaller scale dolls. Things I wanted for them were not easily available so, I made them for myself, then sold them to others who also wanted them. The Foot was one of these products (13 sizes) and so are the half-inch scale hats.I have always worked in multiple fields: painting, sculpture, photography, graphics, and miniatures. No matter what you learn, you can always find ways to use that knowledge. It seems that for me, one thing leads to another. Miniatures uses everything. |
