08 Sep 2019 | Inspiring a Young Woman to Write Her Future: How Lancome are Mentoring Women with Literacy Needs | 00:35:24
Did you know that 1 in 7 women in the UK lack basic literacy skills, impacting their ability to confidently read and write? Today, Lancome share the story of how they work with the National Literacy Trust to mentor young women in the UK with literacy needs. Emilie Marsh, Director of Communications at Lancome UK, joins me to explain how the two work together. She also discusses her experience as a successful working woman with dyslexia. Billie Dunne, Programme Manager at the National Literacy Trust, explains how this programme helps young women to reach their full potential and increases their employability. I supported a mentoring session earlier this year and have seen first hand the impact these sessions have on a young woman’s confidence. I was surprised to learn how many people (especially women) struggle with basic literacy skills, and I hope someone listening may be inspired to reach out and seek support if this impacts them too. 22 Sep 2019 | Life, love and make-up with Sam and Nic Chapman | 01:00:46
I am so excited to have my favourite make-up artists, Sam and Nic Chapman, on the podcast today. What’s so powerful about them is that they’ve made such a huge impact on the beauty community just by being themselves. Over the years they’ve used their platform to speak openly about all kinds of personal experiences, from living through domestic violence to living with depression and MS. Their openness has culminated a community where people feel like they can share and be themselves without judgement. Today we’re talking about a little bit of everything, be it their first jobs in beauty, the journey to finding a work/life balance and how their early experiences have shaped the women they are now. Azzi works closely with all kinds of creatives, making completely bespoke fragrances for them, whether to wear in their personal life or sometimes to help them get into a new character if they’re playing a role in a film. Trish is a make-up artist with her own incredible beauty line, and to me she’s really special because she has such a unique bond with the people that use her products. Trish prides herself on personally hosting make-up masterclasses all over the world. You’ll feel the magic and warmth from her as she tells her story from start to finish. We recorded this a little while ago in case you’re wondering why there are a few references to travel during a time that the world is in lockdown. By 2016 she had sold over 5 million brushes, and today Zoeva comprises over 300 products and tools. What really struck me was Zoe’s inspiration for starting the brand. We recorded this podcast some time ago, so her ‘new’ foundation is now well and truly out there, and any other references like where we are and any travel were of course part of life before lockdown. 03 Jun 2020 | Decoding Clean Beauty with Tata Harper | 00:38:44
From a sunny farm in Vermont, Tata Harper joins me today to tell me how she created her clean skincare brand. When her step father was sadly diagnosed with cancer, her family made the decision to remove all kinds of toxins from their everyday routines. What ensued was a journey of research and knowledge that inspired her to create her own beauty line that was luxury, potent, and clean. I loved learning about Tata’s upbringing in Columbia, where beauty routines were a celebration and a ritual. If you want to learn a little more about what ‘clean beauty’ really means, this episode will be for you…

23 Jun 2020 | What Black Lives Matter means for beauty with Dr. Ateh Jewel | 00:39:35
Today, I’m joined by an award winning beauty journalist, producer, brand founder and diversity advocate, Dr. Ateh Jewel. For as long as I can remember, Ateh has been at the forefront of conversations within the beauty industry about how we all need to work towards creating more of a diverse landscape. When the world became aware of the story of George Floyd in May 2020, a widespread conversation ignited about the importance of the Black Lives Matter movement. Within the beauty industry, Ateh was encouraging this discussion to create a wider awareness and ignite positive change. So, today, she joins me to share her experiences of being a black woman and mother in society today, and how the beauty industry can work together to create a better future.

Welcome back to a new series of Beauty from the Heart! I’m delighted to be back with journalist, author and mental health activist Bryony Gordon. Given that we’re set to spend more time at home this autumn, I invited Laura Jackson to talk home comforts on the podcast this week. I think if we can bring some magic to simple rituals, like making an evening meal more special, we can find smalls ways to get by over the coming weeks and months. Laura is well known for her presenting roles, but her passion for food led her to launch her own supper club with her friend Alice Levine, and create her own podcast dedicated to hosting. So today, I’ve asked Laura to join me and share some of her expertise in the hope that we can find some comfort in the ordinary. As always, there’s some beauty chat along the way too. 17 Nov 2020 | Creating Peaches and Cream: Part 1 with Kate Matthews (nee Donnelly) | 00:31:12
Today you’re going to meet one of my best friends, Kate Donnelly, known to many as one of the co-founders of Peaches and Cream. What you might not know is that everything I know about make-up I learned at Peaches, where Kate and Nicola took me on as a make-up artist while I lived in Liverpool for University. This is such a long and personal story for us, so I’ve decided to split it into two parts. In part one, Kate tells us how she and Nicola met at college, and how their journey to creating a worldwide beauty brand began. Later this week, Nicola and I are going to delve into part two and share how a small shop in Garston, Liverpool took on a whole new city centre premises and evolved into a global phenomenon.
