16 Feb 2022S2: E6: - Gabe Garcia - A Nashville Star From Lytle, Texas01:19:28

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

At 15 years old Gabe recorded his first 2 song demo in Nashville with his brother’s high school buddy Touchstone Mcdonald. When Gabe turned 16, his brother left to college leaving behind a guitar that Gabe self taught himself with and where a year later Gabe joined a band from Pearsall, Texas called the “Texas Wranglers”. During a family vacation in South Padre Island, Gabe and his dad met Clint Bullard, a Nashville songwriter who was performing at a nearby hotel. Clint allowed Gabe to sing a few songs and months after Gabe and his brother flew out to Nashville to cut a full country album with Clint. In high school, with some musical experiences already under his belt, at age 17 he was asked to sing and compete for his high school FFA program. Gabe competed in and won all rounds of the competitions and performed back to back years at the National FFA Convention.

After playing with country band the “Texas Wranglers” Gabe and the band regrouped and began a new band renaming themselves the “Maverick Creek Cowboys”. Gabe and the band toured the South Texas scene gaining a following and also later landing a First Place spot at the Annual State Colgate Country Showdown. After graduating from high school Gabe landed a job in San Antonio working 8 years for CPS Energy and using every vacation day traveling back and forth to Nashville gaining major attention from major record labels while working with Bart Bartler. Bart and his Dad Bill Butler from Hondo, Texas were introduced to Gabe by friend Tommy Calame. Bart who is a successful songwriter & producer in Nashville continued working with Gabe where in 2006 he produced another full country album with Gabe that gained more major label interest and hinted for Gabe to move to Nashville. In 2007 Gabe hit the hardest time of his life when his dad Juan J. Garcia Sr. passed away. With Gabe’s dad and family being very supportive in his musical accomplishments Gabe then decided to quit his job, sell his home, and finally move to Nashville in January 2008.

After 3 months into moving to Nashville Gabe landed a spot on NBC’s then popular show Nashville Star in 2008 where he placed First Runner-up out of 65,000 total contestants that tried out. Shortly after the show Gabe was taken in by Manager Erv Woosley, whom currently still manages George Strait. Gabe and Erv worked together for 2 years while also landing a one year songwriting deal with Bill Butler Music who published well known Strait songs such as “Baby Blue” and “Love Without End Amen”. After the 2 years Gabe was then managed and signed to another writing deal with John Rich of country duo “Big & Rich”. While working With John, Gabe landed a record deal with Average Joe’s Entertainment out of Nashville. After 5 years of living in Nashville Gabe decided to just follow his roots back to South Texas. As he continues to travel back and forth between Tennessee and Texas, Gabe left his Nashville label and began his own current label 396 Entertainment with Dallas, Texas buddy Jody Redlich.

While Gabe has had an awesome adventure in his long running music career and experiences playing the smokey bars of South Texas, opening for major country artists in large venues, being on major network television, toured and played Canada and France, radio stations playing his music all over the world, and many more accomplishments under his belt, Gabe continues to love his passion for music which he will never let down. Gabe has 3 country albums "Shotglass", "Missing", and "Cold Beer and a Suntan" available on iTunes, Spotify, and Pandora. You can connect with Gabe via his social media accounts located above or for more info and tour dates right here on gabegarcia.com.

30 Mar 2022S2: E10: Lauren Marshall - An Evening in New Zealand (REMASTERED)01:21:51

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

This is my chat with Christchurch New Zealand's own Lauren Marshall. Lauren is a vocalist, actress, and performer and has displayed her talent around the globe.

Lauren has been passionate about the performing arts since she was a child. Growing up in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, she trained in dance, singing, and drama, and spent her childhood involved in many musicals and productions. She also began writing her own music and playing guitar at 13 years old, finding her vocal strength in soul, blues, jazz, R&B, pop, and musical theatre.

Lauren completed her Bachelor of Performing Arts from the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts in Christchurch, in 2012, where she performed in musicals such as The Music Man, Cats, and Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Soon after she gained professional work as Sandy in The Court Theatre's sell out season of Grease, as well as national touring productions with THETA - Theatre in Health Education Trust. Lauren worked exclusively as an ambassador, model, and dancer with the Napier Art Deco Trust, where she became the face of the annual internationally acclaimed Art Deco Weekend.

This led to Lauren moving to Melbourne, Australia, where she regularly performed at the infamous Broadway Unplugged sessions, and honed her screen acting skills with Kevin Harrington and Shane Connor at The Actors Coach. Lauren later had the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles, California to train at the Margie Haber Studios in their ISP Screen Acting Intensive, where she worked with leading Hollywood acting professionals in screen acting technique, comedy, and improvisation.

Soon after, Lauren was cast in one of the newest and most highly anticipated shows from Royal Caribbean Productions Spectra's Cabaret. She then went on to work with the company as a featured vocalist and vocal captain in original productions of Sequins & Feathers, Live, Love, Legs, The Beautiful Dream, StarWater, and Sonic Odyssey, onboard their vessels.

In 2020 Lauren completed a contract with Celebrity Cruises Productions as a specialty vocalist, performing in Les Farfadais's Euphoria, as well as multiple other shows. Onboard she debuted her self-produced headliner show Divas Through The Decades to critical acclaim.

Since returning to New Zealand, Lauren has immersed herself back into the entertainment scene, appearing in sold-out nationwide tours of Tina - Simply The Best, and ABBA - The Dancing Queen Show. Lauren has made a name for herself as a well sought-after vocalist and guitarist, performing solo and in bands regularly around the country.

In 2021, Lauren collaborated with artist/producer, Wulfie, on his track, Love Won't Run Away, which was released in November. The song signaled her debut as the musical artist LOVETA, with her first EP due to be released in mid-2022.

06 Apr 2022S2: E11: Creed Fisher - A Small Bag of Weed and a Friend01:19:36

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

"The odds were against me all along, but I just wouldn't go away." Country music rebel, Creed Fisher, defied the odds, going from rock bottom to chart-topping on his own terms independently. Like a steely-eyed gunslinger from a Sergio Leone western, he is a man of few words and lets his music tell his story. Fisher's songwriting harkens back to the roots of genuine outlaw country music, taking listeners back to a place and time when the fine art of storytelling flowed effortlessly. While that element seems to have gotten lost in the glitzy slush of modern times, he's never been one to sell his soul to the trends. Keeping it real means writing songs that real people can relate to; the good, bad, and even the ugly. "A big part of my music is patriotic and for the working class. I relate to my music because I lived it." Now, Fisher ups the ante, joining forces with renegade record label Dirt Rock Empire, for the highly-anticipated release of his newest album, Whiskey, and The Dog, which he promises, "A rollercoaster of emotions; laughs, cheers with drinks and songs that will make you want to cry." Unapologetic, patriotic, and passionate, the album stays true to Creed Fisher's unwavering form, speaking to and for his fans. "People will be like,' I'm glad he said that' and 'He said things I wanna say but can't say.

24 Apr 2022S2: E13: Jimmy Fortune (Statler Brothers / Brotherly Love) A Tenor With 2 Strings02:13:01

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Jimmy Fortune toured, sang, and performed with the legendary Statler Brothers for 21 years. He joined them first as a temporary replacement for Lew DeWitt, after DeWitt heard him singing at a ski resort and recommended him. Following an audition in Nashville, Jimmy was contacted by the Statler Brothers and performed his first show with them on January 28, 1982, in Savannah, Georgia. Due to the debilitating effects of Crohn’s Disease, Lew was unable to return to the stage with the Statlers, and Jimny was hired as a permanent replacement in August of 1982.

Fortune quickly lived up to his name. He wrote the group’s second No. 1 hit, “Elizabeth,” on their 1983 album Today, and followed that with two more No. 1 hits–“My Only Love” (from 1984’s Atlanta Blue) and “Too Much On My Heart” (from 1985’s Pardners in Rhyme). Fortune also wrote the top-10 hit “Forever” from 1986’s Four for the Show and co-wrote the top-10 hit “More Than a Name on the Wall” from 1988’s The Greatest Hits.

Jimmy has performed in all of the U.S. States, in Canadian Provinces, and in front of audiences as large as 100,000. He was part of the Statlers’ annual Happy Birthday USA celebration in Staunton, Virginia, for 14 years. He also sang on many of the Statlers’ gold, platinum, and double platinum recordings. Jimmy’s career included The Nashville Network’s popular “The Statler Brothers Show” which aired for seven seasons and debuted in 1991 as the highest rated show for the network. Jimmy was privileged to perform at the White House on two occasions, once for President Ronald Reagan, and once for President George H. W. Bush. He also presented a special gift to actress Elizabeth Taylor by singing his song “Elizabeth” to her for a birthday celebration.

Jimmy and The Statler Brothers were inducted into the GMA (Gospel Music Association) Hall of Fame on October 29, 2007, and inducted into the CMA (Country Music Association) Hall of Fame on June 29, 2008. Jimmy, as a solo artist, was inducted into the Virginia Musical Hall of Fame in 2018.

After The Statler Brothers retired on October 26, 2002, Jimmy seized the opportunity to launch a solo career to share new music with his fans.  His first solo CD, When One Door Closes, was released in August 2003 on Audium/Koch. He released a gospel album, I Believe, in June 2005, a Christmas CD, Feels Like Christmas, in 2006, a live concert DVD in 2007 a country CD, “Windows” in 2009, “Lessons” in 2012, and “Hits and Hymns” CD and DVD through Gaither Music Group in 2015 which debuted at #10 Billboard Country Album, #1 Southern Gospel, and #6 Billboard Contemporary Christian. The DVD debuted at #1 on the Billboard Music Video charts.  In 2017 he recorded a compilation of his favorite songs called “Jimmy Fortune Sings The Classics” on the Gaither Music label. Jimmy is currently living in Nashville, writing, touring, and recording a new project for Gaither Music called “God and Country” set to be released in May of 2019.

27 Apr 2022S2: E14: Chip Znuff (Enuff Znuff) - 4 Strings & Rose Colored Glasses01:29:56

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Enuff Z’nuff are the living, breathing example of what a rock/pop group should be. The band was formed in 1984 in Blue Island, Illinois. Its first release, Fingers On It, gave the band some initial recognition when the track was featured in the 1986 cult movie, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

By 1989, original members, Chip Z'Nuff and Donnie Vie, were joined by guitarist Derek Frigo and drummer Vikki Foxx. The band had signed with Atco/Atlantic Records that same year and released their debut self-titled album. The album spawned two singles that were to change the course of the band's history, New Thing and Fly High Michelle. Both songs were played constantly on radio and gained heavy rotation on MTV spending over 60 weeks in the top 10.

1991 saw the band release its follow-up, Strength. The album had more of a rock overtone, and following its release, the band became regulars on shows like David Letterman and Howard Stern and was featured in Rolling Stone’s hot issue as ‘the next big thing'.

In 1993 the band left Atco records and moved to Arista, releasing the album, Animals With Human Intelligence. The album gained lots of critical acclaims, and prior to its release, Vikki Foxx was replaced by new drummer Ricky Parent.

Still a major force after 20+ albums, Enuff Z’nuff still has a legion of loyal fans and has earned the respect and acclaim of its peers and contemporaries. With the addition of longtime guitarist: Tory Stoffregen, former Enuff Z'nuff singer/guitarist: Alex Kane, and Chicago native: Daniel Benjamin Hill, the band continues to tour and record relentlessly.

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: June 15,, 2022
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number: S2: E19: David Roach (Junkyard) - A Simple Man Living a Simple Life

Artist Short Bio - A gritty, streetwise rock band with a bluesy undercurrent, Junkyard’s music is steeped in Hard & Southern Rock, but their roots are in punk, and most, if not all members got their start in punk & hardcore acts of the ’80s.

Junkyard shared their passion for unpretentious riffage drawn from the influences of ’70s hard rock with a swagger that made their good times seem more than just a little dangerous. At the same time, their blues influences were closer to the surface, and if the music was a far cry from punk, the raw edges of their early influences were there in case you were looking for them.

As of August 21st, Roots Music (the #1 independent music chart in the world) ranks Clay on the Blues Rock charts with the #1 song in the world for the title track Back to Blue, #9 album in the world, and #7 album in Texas for all genres.

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Interview with Sarah Faith, Singer / Songwriter out of Orlinda, TN.

A Michigan-born Nashvillian, Sarah Faith is an artist-songwriter that builds her musical catalog and sound around her life’s experiences, including addiction, abuse, and mental health. As an independent Americana artist, Sarah has been strongly influenced by a diverse musical background. The result is a healthy mix of blues and roots rock, folk, alt-country, and indie rock genres. Her warm, soulful voice brings fans songs written about close-to-the-heart stories with a distinct kind of vulnerability and realness.

Having dealt with depression and anxiety most of her life, Sarah aims to relate to her audience through her struggles. “We all deal with curve balls and unexpected turns in life. None of us are dealt perfect hands. I’ve just found a way to not let it control me. That’s what drives me to create music the most.” Since her abusive alcoholic mother lost her life to addiction in 2017, her ambitions have been ever-evolving, but one thing remains constant: “I want to show people that no matter how dark your story is or how ridiculous and crazy your family is, you have the choice; you can turn your struggles into good things.”

Sarah released her debut album, Lessons From The Archives, in June 2021. She is also the winner of Goodyear’s From Garage To Glory which afforded opportunities like performing twice at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, singing the National Anthem at the 2022 Cotton Bowl, performing at Nashville’s Hard Rock Cafe, and singing the National Anthem at NASCAR’s Xfinity race in Daytona in 2022. Faith has her foot on the gas pedal and is ready to make lots of noise in 2022 with the coming of a sophomore album and plans to get on the road.

31 Aug 2022S3: E6: Kyle Hutton - Three More Bottles & She's Gone01:50:59

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: August 31, 2022
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S3: E6: Kyle Hutton - Three More Bottles & She's Gone

Artist Short Bio -  “Longest Days, Shortest Years” is the 5th full-length studio release from singer/songwriter Kyle Hutton. The 15 song project offers a ride back to a time when you listened to a record from beginning to end, and deliberately bucks the trend of experiencing an artist through a single, or an EP. “Longest Days, Shortest Years” delivers 57 minutes of the best yet from Hutton’s pen and guitar.

The title track of the new cd, produced by Jeffery Armstreet, explores the dichotomy of time, how a minute can feel like a lifetime and a decade can pass in the blink of an eye. Hutton, a father of 3 boys and husband of 21 years, provides wise lament on this universal subject. Michael Martin Murphey joins in on the upbeat, reflective track with a cameo on guitar and vocals. “Being in the studio with Michael Martin Murphey was one of the highlights of making this record”, states Hutton, “his willingness to be involved cemented my feelings about this song being the title track”.

And it’s obvious that Hutton’s “Real Life Real Music” live shows and radio program have garnered him some new friends and fans. In addition to Murphey, Kyle is joined by a host of other performers lending their talents to his songs. Relative newcomer Haley Cole joins in on the woefully honest, yet somehow optimistic song “I’ve Loved You”. The Chubby Knuckle Choir brings their eclectic mix to “So Close to Saturday Night”, “Last Minute Austin”, and the live, unedited take of “Wingtip Shoes”, a post-depression era fable about a sharecropping family’s demise. The project also includes an unforgettable performance by Jamie Wilson who joins Kyle for the duet “What it Takes to Sing These Songs”, a piece that looks directly into the soul of the independent troubadour. Three of the songs on the project were co-written with Hutton favorites: Walt Wilkins – “What I Dreamed Last Night”, Marcus Eldridge – “So Close to Saturday Night” and his oldest son Brooks Hutton – “Wallets and Watches”.

19 Oct 2022S3: E:13 - Kirstie Kraus - Flowers Bloom Where They Are Planted00:57:56

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: October 19, 2022
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S3: E13: Kirstie Kraus - Flowers Bloom Where They Are Planted

Artist Bio -

She’s thirsty for love and magic, for joy and sunshine. She’s thirsty for compassion and authenticity. And more than anything, she’s thirsty for anything that sets her soul on fire.

Kirstie Kraus carries her thirst in her songwriting, in her live shows, and in her everyday connection with other kindred spirits. Nowhere is her appetite more quenched than on a stage in front of her fans, appropriately named “Thirsties”. Her confidence naturally shines under the bright lights, taking concertgoers on a well-defined path of self-discovery and bliss. Her writing infuses her own transparent journey with others’ experiences to create sustainable lyrics and catchy melodies.

The result is a perfect blend of country, funk, blues, and rock because, with Kirstie, there are no boundaries. There’s only the process of “letting go” and letting the song tell you what it wants to be.

It will also tell you WHERE it wants to be and for an intuitive deep thinker like Kirstie, that place is Nashville. Three years ago, the Wisconsin native made the move to Music City and having heavily toured the summer before with her Midwest band, Thirsty Jones, Kirstie made the decision to really focus on honing her craft in town. She immediately began demoing out songs for her upcoming full-length record and playing established Nashville venues, like the Listening Room Café and the Bluebird. She also leaned into the production side of her album, gaining great insight from her then producer about arrangements, vocal styling, and mixing. Her first Nashville based single, “Delusional” (2018) fancies a sassy 80s funk groove while 2019’s “Gotta Do” pulls in early 2000s Shania vibes. “Silver”, her July 2020 release, possesses the licks of Joan Jett and attitude of Avril Lavigne, proving that she’s not a one lane roadmap.

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: November 2, 2022
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S3: E15: Clint Woolsey & James Beau Edwards (Stone Senate) -Dusk, Dawn, & Down Home Hooks

Artist Bio -

Stone Senate has been called “a heavier version of Lynyrd Skynyrd, crossed with The Allman Brothers Band”. While being mentioned in such heady company is flattering, one thing Stone Senate is most definitely not, is a retro act. They are taking what came naturally from their collective influences a step further.

Fronted by lead vocalist/guitarist Clint Woolsey’s smoldering, soulful vocals and unmistakable stage presence, stage left and stage right are burning with dual lead guitars of James Edwards and Ted Hennington. Add to these the blood bonded rhythm section of “The Mud Brothers”- Paul Zettler on bass/vocals and David Zettler on drums/vocals and you have caught lightning in a bottle.

Having been together since 2012, the band has built a loyal following through a relentless year round touring schedule, that has enabled them to widen their collective set list of band and audience favorites, “Right Side Up” (2014), “Martha” (2016) and “Lazy River” (2016), of Country and Rock legendary songs, like the George Strait cover of “The Fireman” (2020), new original music from their EP “Dusk” (2021), with the singles “Whiskey Helps”, “Slow Crusade” and “Down”, and coming in 2022, the Toby Wright produced record, “Between the Light and Dark”.

With over 600 shows throughout the US in the last few years, Stone Senate is steadily adding more and more dates each year and looking forward to some great new music in 2022!

Date: November 16, 2022
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S3: E16: Payton Howie  - Hulsey/Howie...A Poisonous Duo

Artist Bio -
With backwoods bathed vocals and bona fide southern swagger, Payton Howie is leading the next generation of redneck women. Branded as the ultimate ‘All American Girl’ by Scenes Media, Howie is gaining nationwide notoriety with features from CMT, Guitar Girl Magazine, The Boot, Country Rebel, Fox News, and more. Payton unapologetically embodies the untamed tradition that country music was built on, and she’s hellbent on bringing her own grit to the honky tonk. Not many can say they’ve shared the stage with the likes of Carrie Underwood, and Howie is one of even fewer who can say they were handpicked to do so at the age of 5; while other kids were learning how to ride a bike, she was teaching people to expect the unexpected whenever they hear the name Payton Howie. She has multiple songs featured on several of Spotify’s sought after editorial playlists and her debut EP, “Youngblood”, has attained over 1 million streams. The accompanying music video for "Never Go Home" shows off her non-stop party attitude while the "Freedom" music video bleeds red, white, and blue. Payton has also shared the stage with artists such as Clay Walker, William Clark Green, Pam Tillis, Aaron Watson, Bret Michaels, The Bellamy Brothers, Ian Munsick, The Band Perry, Warren Zeiders, Billy Ray Cyrus, Hunter Hayes, Walker County, Gary Allan, Chris Janson, Jack Ingram, Coffey Anderson, Josh Ward, Laci Kaye Booth, Bryson Gray, Tyler Farr, Honey County, Chayce Beckham and more. Having just released her newest single, "Keep Her Breathing", Payton Howie is prepared to scorch country music with a brand that’s hers alone.

Date: December 28, 2022
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S3: E19: Leather Leone - We Are The Chosen

Artist Bio -
Leather Leone needs no introduction. She has forged her unique place in metal history a long time ago. After being scouted by Mike Varney (President of Shrapnel records), Leather emerged in the early 1980s as a pioneer of the power metal vocals with the band Chastain. After releasing five celebrated metal records with the band during that period, Leather re-emerged again in the 2000s alongside David T. Chastain to release two critically acclaimed albums, “Surrender to no One” and “We bleed Metal”.

In the last few years, Leather has allowed her creative urges to match and expand her loyal international fanbase, resulting in widely successful South American and European tours, and in the release of “Leather II” in 2018.

Anchored in her strong writing partnership with lead guitarist Vinnie Tex, and against a backdrop of unexpected Covid-19 lockdowns, the creation of a new album became Leather’s focus from early 2020.

The long-awaited “We Are The Chosen” came to light in the Autumn of 2021 at Hertz Studios in Poland (Behemoth, Vader, Hate), undoubtedly containing ten of Leather’s most ambitious material yet. All the songs were written, produced and recorded by Leather Leone and Vinnie Tex, except the drums recorded by Braulio Drumond and keyboard orchestration by Douglas Pinella. The album was mixed and mastered by Woitek and Slawek Wieslawski. The cover art was created by Marcelo Vasco (Slayer, Dee Snider, Kreator, Testament).

With her trademark boldness, Leather traverses several musical decades effortlessly, instilling the new album with the straight-from-the-furnace steel that metal legends are made of. If anything, “We Are The Chosen”, tells us that Leather is here, she is the real deal, and she is ready for more!

11 Jan 2023S4: E1: Tony Carey (Rainbow, Planet P Project, Pat Travers, Joe Cocker) A Musical Magician From Hawkeye Rd.02:11:48

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: January 11, 2023
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S4: E1: Tony Carey (Rainbow, Planet P Project, Pat Travers, Joe Cocker) A Musical Magician From Hawkeye Rd.

Artist Bio -

Tony Carey & Planet P Project

Tony Carey first appeared on the international stage in 1975, playing keyboards for Ricthie Blackmore’s Rainbow.

Carey played on the classic albums ‘Rising’ and ‘On Stage’, in the Rainbow lineup including Ronnie James Dio, Cozy Powell, Jimmy Bain and Ritchie Blackmore, touring the world for 2 years.

A California native, Carey relocated to Germany in 1978 to pursue a solo career. Learning-by-doing, he recorded several instrumental albums, playing the lion’s share of the instruments: keyboards, bass, guitars, and drums.

He tried his hand at singing in 1980, recording his vocal debut album, ‘In the Absence of the Cat’, followed by ‘I Won’t be Home Tonight’, which was signed by fledgling (and scandal-ridden) label Rocshire Records in Anaheim, California.

‘I Won’t Be Home Tonight’ was a radio sensation in America in 1982, with the single reaching #8 on the Rock Radio Billboard chart.

The prolific young songwriter was in the studio daily between 1978 - 83, recording in different styles.

His science fiction - themed ‘Planet P Project’ caught the attention of Geffen Records, and the eponymous album containing the single ‘Why Me’ was an MTV smash, followed by the album ’Some Tough City’, which yielded 2 Top 40 singles in 1984: ‘A Fine, Fine Day’ and ’The First Day of Summer’.

This was followed by the now-classic ‘Pink World’ double pink vinyl release by Planet P Project.

A more detailed discography/biography appears here:

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Carey

Hampered by serious illness in 2009, Carey made a full recovery and has spent the last years recording and touring in Europe and Scandinavia.

Carey has recorded and released over 40 records, and produced records by John Mayall, Chris Norman, David Knopfler, Joe Cocker, and Peter Maffay (Germany’s top-selling rock artist). He has done several film scores and published well over 1,000 songs.

Carey's 2013 release 'Steeltown' (Planet P Project') reflects his love of and appreciation for Norway, thematically exploring the history and struggles of this fascinating country.

2019 marks Carey's 50th Anniversary as a Beat Poet/Still Hippie/Not- Dead- Yet Person, and will be commemorated by the release of 'Lucky Us', his first non- Planet P  Project Record in, well, a very long time - and the re-release of 12 Catalog albums, which include five 'PPP' records, two albums of other folks' songs (Stanislaus County Kid I & II), a Christmas record (!), and a movie-soundtrack-without-a-movie, in addition to 3 solo albums.

01 Feb 2023S4: E3: Stephanie Ryann - Dreams Come True With A Bluebird Debut01:32:57

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: February 1, 2023
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S4: E3: Stephanie Ryann - Dreams Come True With A Bluebird Debut

Artist Bio -

STEPHANIE RYANN is a woman who's got something to say, whether you want to listen or not. Embracing country music's forward progression, Ryann's "storyteller" lyrics and unique vocal stylings showcase her influences from country, pop, and rock music. Recently compared to the likes of Ashley McBryde and Sara Evans, her sound is what sets her apart from other country artists on the scene.

The New England native is no stranger to the music industry, spending most of her late teens and early 20’s auditioning for TV shows such as American Idol, Nashville Star, and The Voice to assist in jump-starting her career. When that proved to be more of a dead end than an open road, the former firefighter turned fashion model turned musician looked to friends and fellow musicians Eliot Lewis (of the legendary pop duo Hall & Oates) and Kevin Totoian to help forge her own path into the music industry. In late 2018, Ryann released her debut, self-titled, EP and has been releasing singles ever since.

According to Music and Tour News, “Stephanie Ryann is set to become one of the genre's most revered artists,” and with a catalog boasting over 400,000 streams across platforms, it's not hard to understand why. Ryann has had the privilege of sharing a stage with several fellow artists, including Cole Swindell, Tenille Arts, Jackson Dean, Morgan Myles, Eliot Lewis, Carolyn Miller, Jamie McLean, The Felice Brothers, and Midnight North.  Stephanie Ryann has been featured on an impressive list of media outlets including CMT, Celeb Secrets, Digital Journal, NY"s 94.7, and BCMA and has been named "Artist of the Year" by The Wood Music and awarded "2020 Song of the Year"  by Rt 66 Country Music. Ryann has also been named “One to Watch” by NSAI (Nashville Songwriter’s Association).

While COVID-19 shut down most of the music industry, Ryann took the opportunity to hone her songwriting skills and teach herself guitar. With a new skill under her belt, a new side of Ryann began to shine with the release of songs like her COVID-inspired single, “Nights Like These”, and her fierce female anthem, "I Should". "Learning guitar completely changed my approach to songwriting. It opened my eyes (and ears) to a whole new side of myself and I'm leaning into that with everything I've got," says Ryann. Delivering over 100 live streams concerts with various media outlets including radio stations, music venues, and online festivals, Ryann shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Stay tuned for new music!

06 Feb 2023S4: E4: Payton Howie - Crazy Bout Her00:37:04

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: February 1, 2023
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S4: E4: Payton Howie

01 Mar 2023S4: E7: Bailey Rae - Oklahoma Girl & Gypsy Cowboys00:58:08

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: March 1, 2023
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S4: E7: Bailey Rae - Oklahoma Girl & Gypsy Cowboys

Artist Bio -
Bailey Rae is a rising singer/songwriter with roots planted deep in country music. Growing up in a musical family, she started her collection of classic country vinyl at an early age and was gifted many country albums belonging to her great-great-grandmother. Listening to those legendary voices like Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, Emmylou Harris and Don Williams, Bailey Rae quickly discovered a love for classic country music which continues to be a big influence in her voice and musical style today.

Since the age of thirteen, Bailey Rae has been performing regularly on stages from Texas, and Oklahoma to Arkansas and from Branson, Nashville, and Pigeon Forge. In 2020, she had the opportunity to share her pure country voice with millions of fans on the biggest stage of her life – NBC’s The Voice, where she had the honor of becoming the first true country artist to ever be on Team Legend. Bailey Rae’s Blind Audition was a very memorable moment with both Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson making promises to steal her if she became available on the show. She quickly caught the attention of country music fans from across the nation and finished The Voice Season 19 as a Top 9 Semi-Finalist out of 40,000 auditions for the season.

One could say that Bailey Rae has always been drawn to the big stage, as she discovered her love for performing at just five years old when joining a competitive clogging team. Over the years, she won multiple National Championships and competed at a World Dance Championship competition. Bailey Rae had been singing in church for years and after hearing of a vocal coach in Denison, Texas, she began performing with the Shawnda Rains Entertainment Group. While on her first performance trip in Branson, Missouri, Bailey Rae realized her desire to sing on stage and immediately hung up her clogging shoes to start the pursuit of a career in country music.

This small-town Oklahoma girl calls Texas her second home and was named the 2020-2021 Ambassador for the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. Bailey Rae has opened for country music greats such as TG Sheppard, Whispering Bill Anderson, Jeannie C Riley, Linda Davis, The Scott Family, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Doug Stone and Texas Country Artists, Flatland Calvary, and Jake Worthington. In October 2021, Bailey Rae was invited by her Voice Coach, John Legend, to share the stage with him at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK to sing a duet. It was an amazing opportunity and something she will never forget. Bailey Rae has also headlined many shows, festivals and events, and tours regularly with her band.

29 Mar 2023S4: E10 - Eliot Lewis (Hall & Oates / Average White Band) - Just A Bump In The Road01:43:55

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: March 29, 2023
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S4: E10 - Eliot Lewis (Hall & Oates / Average White Band) - Just A Bump In The Road

Artist Bio -
A singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Eliot Lewis has toured the world over as a member of the Daryl Hall & John Oates band, as well as a former member of The Average White Band. Eliot has also been the only musician to appear on every episode of Daryl Hall’s popular, "Live From Daryl's House” show all while keeping his own solo career going at a seemingly impossible pace.

Over the course of his career, he has worked with the music business elite including, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Joe Walsh, Sammy Hagar, Todd Rundgren, Train, Cheap Trick, Grace Potter,  Squeeze, Rob Thomas,  Jason Mraz, Darius Rucker, Gavin DeGraw, and many, many others.

Having mastered four instruments over the course of his career; guitar, keyboard, bass, and drums, Eliot’s shows will find him moving from one instrument to another.

Equally, at home in front of 100 or 15,000, Eliot has performed on the world's most legendary stages, including Madison Square Garden, Japan’s Budokan, Red Rocks, The Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall as well as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien, The Today Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and many others.

Eliot has carved out his own distinctive musical brand and sonic landscape and has written, performed and produced ten solo releases.

There are many who shaped Eliot’s music and writing. As a guitar player, definitely Jeff Beck who I've been listening to all my life, as well as Billy Gibbons who I had the great fortune of working with recently, and Peter Frampton who I actually jammed with when I was 14 yrs old. I had the amazing experience of meeting and seeing many influential artists when I was a kid mainly at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Chad Hedrick (born April 17, 1977) is an American inline speed skater and ice speed skater. He was born in Spring, Texas.

Playing a fun mix of Rock/Country/Pop and his own original music, he has hit the ground running playing over 300 shows in less than two years and has had the opportunity to share the stage with acts such as Shane Smith and the Saints, Cory Morrow, Muscadine Bloodline, and Bag Of Donuts.

His original music can be heard on his EP “For You” on all streaming platforms.

10 May 2023S4: E15: - Season Ammons - Steel Hearts in Gruene Texas02:03:39

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: May 10, 2023
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S4: E15 - Season Ammons  - Steel Hearts in Gruene Texas

Artist Bio -

With a voice as distinguishable and versatile as her name, Season Ammons is an award-winning songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, blending soulful blues with Texas roots and Americana.  Ammons' most recent project, 'Steel Hearts,' is her fourth and most personal album to date.  For this recording, Texas-based Ammons took a special trip across the pond and recorded in the legendary Studio 2 at London’s fabled Abbey Road Studios.  Sought-after producer David Percefull (Green Day, Gary Clark Jr., Meat Puppets) mixed ‘Steel Hearts’ at Abbey Road in Studio 3, and Sean Magee (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Rush, Iron Maiden) mastered the album there. Drawing predominantly from her experiences of heartbreak, forgiveness, self-acceptance, and new love ‘Steel Hearts’ showcases Ammons’ unique, searing intensity and confirms that this singular artist has a lot more to say and infinite ways to say it.

Ammons’ remarkable live show has taken her all over the country and beyond. Highlights include multiple standing-room-only showcases at Americanafest in Nashville, TN; a featured showcase at the FMQB Triple A Conference (Boulder, CO); performances at 30A Songwriters Festival (Destin, FL), Little 5 Points Festival (Atlanta, GA), Waltstock & Barrel Festival (Fredericksburg, TX); packed house at The Bedford (London, England) and a special Future Faces showcase at the Texas Regional Radio Music Awards.

Over the years, Ammons has earned steady press coverage from national and regional media.  Her musical diversity is evident with consistent appearances on various national radio charts including Billboard Triple A,  Americana Albums Chart, Roots Music Report's Top R&B Album Chart (#10), and regular Top 40 chart action on the Texas Regional Radio Report (TRRR) chart.

*Awards: Texas Country Music Association Award of Distinction (2012);  Emerald Coast BMA Awards for Best Country Artist (2015), Best Female Vocalist (2017) and Best Singer/Songwriter (2017); Texas Music Awards nominee for Best Female Vocalist (2020)

Artist Bio -

Dave Schulz is an American keyboardist, vocalist, producer, composer and recording artist well known for his live and studio work with a wide range of notable artists and musicans including Andrew Cole, Andy Vargas, Angelo Moore, Berlin, Bernard Fowler, Bo Diddley, Bonnie Pointer, Bran Van 3000, Brooke Moriber, Bumblefoot, Carmen and Camille, Carmine Rojas, Chambers Brothers, Cherie Currie, Daniel Lanois, Danny Saber, Durga McBroom, English Beat/General Public, Eric Sardinas, Esthero, Fabienne Shine, Fastball, Fernando Perdomo, Fuel, Garry Shider/Andre Foxxe (P-Funk), Glenn Hughes, Goo Goo Dolls, Hensley, Jay-J, Jazz All-Stars w/ Phil Upchurch, Jean-Michel Byron, John Blackwell, Katja Rieckermann, Kristine W., Kristinia Debarge, Lee Sklar, Little Dove. Louis Conte, Maceo Parker, Macy Gray, Maxayne Lewis, Mike/Steve Porcaro, Mitch Perry Group, Nik West, Nikka Costa, One Tribe Nation / Michael Sanders, Pink, Prairie Prince, Randy Cooke, Rick Springfield, Rusty Young, Ryan Cabrera, Sleepy Brown, Sonny Cool, Stacy Michelle, Stevie Wonder, Sweet, Taylor Dayne, The Fizzies, The Rembrandts, Tony Levin, Wang Chung, Warrant, When In Rome, and XYZ.

Music was a part of Dave Schulz’s life from the beginning. Born in Buffalo NY, his father wore two hats as pianist and conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He would seat Dave in the orchestra pit during performances as early as seven years old. Dave’s brother Robert would soon become a multiple Grammy-nominated classical percussionist, and his sister an accomplished rock/soul singer. Shortly after his father’s passing when Dave was 10, he suddenly took an interest in the piano that was sitting idly in the living room. Osmosis? Within six months Dave had mastered the C Sonata by Mozart, and began an obsession with XTC, Herbie Hancock, Yes, Todd Rundgren and of course, DEVO. Pretty diverse for an 11 year old. He clearly made the right choice. By the age of 17, he was one of the top keyboardists in his hometown, winning multiple awards consistently for seven years. Finally the big break came, when Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls called and left a simple message from sunny LA: “you wanna come out and tour with us for a year?” In a matter of one day Dave went from playing in front of 300 in a local Buffalo bar to playing Woodstock in front of 65000. This led to a two-and-a-half year relationship with the Goo Goo Dolls that took Dave around the world twice as touring keyboardist/vocalist for the “Dizzy Up The Girl” tour, the landmark album that spawned five top ten singles between 98 and 2000. That experience sealed his fate. Where else do you get to open up for the Rolling Stones?

21 Jun 2023S4: E18: Zak Perry - Waking Up The Vultures00:52:27

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: June 21, 2023
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S4: E18 - Zak Perry  - Waking Up The Vultures

Artist Bio -
Zak Perry is an author, composer, guitarist, and performer from Texas based in North of France, where he registered his 13th album « Waking Up The Vultures ».

Native from Missouri, Zak Perry was heading for a beautiful professional golfing career but music came through. He first lived in New York where he could launch his music before going to Austin. Over there he met success and has obtained music awards, especially for his song Mama, on the Dogwood album. His hits were also broadcasted many times on Fox News and climbed in the Texan Top 40.

Upon this success, Zak Perry feels like a troubadour singer. Galveston, his American living town, is also the place where he met his French manager, Fabrice Cat. A relationship was born from this beautiful meeting and Zak decided to live in a second-french-home in Preux-au-Sart, a village that inspired him to write the eponym song, in the « Live Session In France » album.

Then, Zak Perry launches many tours in France and the Netherlands, winning the loyalty of his audience. He played also in Belgium, in the Blue Sphere in Cork, and in the Trabendo and Raismes Fest. His single « Do Me Like That » was played on Classic 21, a rock Belgian radio.

A veteran of the American independent music scene for over 35 years, Zak lives with a genuine intensity rarely seen. With his diverse experiences, boundless curiosity, and quest for the continued development of his craft, it is a fully formed musical and human experience that he offers to the Old Continent with The Beautiful Things.

He defines his style as “a cocktail of rock, country, blues and Gospel” and was compared to The Allman Brothers Band and Soundgarden bands. His references come from the heart of purely American sounds, from Neil Young to Led Zeppelin, while Ray Charles is one of his writing models. His compositions and his very revealing interpretation of this Texan music are rooted in a precise set of instruments and rhythms.

12 Jul 2023S5: E1 - Russ Dwarf (Killer Dwarfs) - The Pride of the Canadian Side01:11:54

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: July 12, 2023
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S5: E1 - Russ Dwarf - Killer Dwarfs - The Pride of the Canadian Side

Artist Bio -
Killer Dwarfs (stylized as KiLLeR DWaRfS) is a Canadian hard rock band that formed in late 1981 in Oshawa, Ontario, and enjoyed moderate success in their native Canada in the 1980s. The band is known for its offbeat sense of humor (all band members adopted the surname "Dwarf") and was nominated for two Juno Awards during its career. Killer Dwarfs were sometimes compared to NWOBHM acts such as Iron Maiden and Saxon

Before The Killer Dwarfs formed, the band consisted of Darrell Millar, Bryce Trewin, and Ange Fodero in a group called Sphinx. After Sphinx, Russ Graham entered the picture and they became The Killer Dwarfs. The original line-up consisted of Russ Graham (vocals) and Darrell Millar (drums), along with Bryce Trewin (guitar) and Ange Fodero (bass). Their self-titled 1983 debut album was nominated for a Juno Award and radio stations in the US, particularly in Texas, started to play the album.

Trewin and Fodero left the band shortly afterward and were replaced by guitarist Mike Hall and bassist Ron Mayer. This line-up released the band's breakthrough 1986 album Stand Tall, followed by Big Deal in 1988 and Dirty Weapons in 1990. The band received much recognition in Canada and the United States during the 80's, and its videos were in regular rotation at MuchMusic and on the MTV program Headbangers Ball. Gerry Finn replaced Hall in 1992, and the album Method to the Madness was released later that year.

The band toured for several years but then parted ways. During the mid-to-late 1990s, the band members pursued other projects. Graham formed a band called PennyBlack, and Hall and Finn both became members of the Canadian metal band Helix. Millar went on to drum for the southern rock band Laidlaw before forming his own Bon Scott era AC/DC tribute band Autobon, which went on to become Automan.ca, which provided Millar with a vehicle for recording original material.

On January 5, 2018, it was announced that Killer Dwarfs had signed to Megadeth bassist David Ellefson's EMP Label Group, which would release a Killer Dwarfs' live album called NO GUFF. EMP also announced that it would reissue the band's independently released START@ONE and vocalist Graham's solo debut Wireless, plus new 2019 studio albums from Killer Dwarfs and Russ Dwarf.

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: July 26, 2023
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S5: E2 - Stoney Curtis - (Stoney Curtis Band / Count’s 77) - Leads Hotter Than Dessert Sands

Artist Bio -
The Stoney Curtis Band is a Las Vegas heavy blues rock/acid blues experience.

They are guitarist/singer Stoney Curtis, bassist Barry Barnes, and drummer/percussionist Shon McKee.

To date, they have released six studio albums to critical acclaim. Their songs are regularly featured on Sirius XM Radio and receive millions of plays on online streaming services like Spotify and YouTube.

Founded by Stoney out of the blues club circuit in 1994, the Band has gone through several interactions over the years. They have been signed to Shrapnel Records since 2004 and have found ever-increasing success since that time. Having previously settled in Los Angeles, the band now makes its home nestled in the Las Vegas music scene.

Past members have included drummer Charlie Glover, bassist Colby Smith, bassist Roger Tausz, singer Eric Mitchell, and singer Kyle Frost.

Their current line-up was brought together in the early 2010’s.

Stoney met Barry Barnes at a Sand Dollar Blues Club jam in 2010, and when scheduling conflicts left Stoney without a bassist, he called upon Barry to join him for a US tour. Keeping up with everything Stoney could throw at him, Barry has lent power to the group’s sound with his skill and killer feel as the bass backbone of blues.

Stoney first saw Shon McKee playing while attending a performance for South of Graceland in 2012 at the behest of the group’s manager. Immediately impressed by Shon’s world-class drumming, they met face to face a week later and bonded over a mutual love of KISS. The Power Trio of the Stoney Curtis Band was now finally forged atop Shon’s rock-solid drumming.

The three have enjoyed sharing success after success, fueled by a friendship born out of love for each’s others compatible musical spirits and incredible talent. Whether it’s recording in studio or touring the country, the Stoney Curtis Band has brought top-tier energetic blues acid rock to millions of fans across the globe.

23 Aug 2023S5: E4 - Paul Noyola - East Texas Pickin and Patroling01:09:42

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: August 23, 2023
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number:  S5: E4 - Paul Noyola  - East Texas Pickin and Patroling

BIO:
Around 13 years old, I taught myself to play guitar - singing my favorite tunes comforted me during a tumultuous time in my life. Within a year, I began writing songs and performing at events around East Texas. In 1995, I was 15 and was hired by a local country club to perform for 4 hours every Friday night for several years. I also formed & fronted The Tailor Made Band beginning in 1995, touring regionally, playing old country, western swing tunes, and several songs that I had written. During those early teenage years, I headlined local festivals & performed at events with Leann Rimes, Mark Chesnutt, Wayne Toups, and Johnny Gimble, and was mentored in songwriting by Grammy Award winner Don Rollins.

When I turned 20, I felt the need to get into a career and became a police officer, which I devoted all my attention to for about 5 years until I had the urge to perform music again.

The freedom and power of rock music were a big influence on me from an early age - with some of my favorites being the Beatles, Led Zepplin, and 90's grunge. I had always wanted to do a rock project, so in 2005 I fronted a 4 piece rock band called Demagogue and for the next two years, we wrote and performed our music around Texas and Louisiana, releasing the EP Passage To Repute and album Fight The Fate. The bassist for the band was Matt Sebastian, who is currently performing around the Houston area. The drummer for Demagogue is now a well-known session drummer and studio owner in the Nashville area, Grady Saxman with Saxman Studios.

A few years later, I fronted another rock project called Noyola and during its 3-year run, we released the album Sow Tomorrow and regionally toured the Texas and Louisiana area. After the band Noyola dissolved around 2012, I got busy with life - working on my businesses, traveling, and getting married.

In 2022, I got back to recording and writing, with the release of a new single called Holding On To Hope in March 2023 and Claim To Be in June 2023. The music I create now has mellowed and matured a bit - all of the genres that I love and have performed over the years have melded together to style the new songs I'm writing and performing - but I do still love performing some of the rock songs I wrote years ago.

Qwynn is a Nashville-based artist, singer/songwriter originally from Cleveland Ohio. Growing up, she was a competitive figure skater until a knee injury forced her to stop competing at age 10. Qwynn has since performed live at fundraising events for the Dare2Dream Foundation, Relay For Life, performed the National Anthem at the Indians vs. Tigers game, and most recently hosted and sang at the finish line celebration at the Autism Speaks LA Walk at the Dodger’s Stadium. After a quick two-month trip to record in Nashville (that turned into a six-month trip,) Qwynn moved from Los Angeles to chase her musical dreams in Tennessee.

During this transition, Qwynn has been in the studio co-writing with music producer/songwriter Matt Wilder, who began as a protégé and signed artist with producer/composer Dan Hartman (James Brown, Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Steve Winwood, Paul Young) who penned “I Can Dream About You,” “Free Ride” and “Living In America” and songwriter Brian Maher who co-penned Justin Moore’s #1 songs “Small Town USA and “Til My Last Day” and has landed cuts by artists such as Taylor Swift, Lonestar, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

Qwynn also currently works with 2x Grammy Award Winner Rebecca Lynn Howard and American Music Award winner Moe Loughran from Nashville Creative House as her vocal coaches.

Qwynn enjoys practicing yoga, playing piano, ukulele, and guitar, cooking, and spending time with her family. She is extremely passionate about the special needs community and has helped her family start a 501c3 non-profit called “Connor’s Hope” in honor of her brother Connor who is on the autism spectrum.

BIO:
Born David Roe Rorick, bassist/vocalist/songwriter Dave Roe grew up in Hawaii and started playing bass in funk and R&B bands in the late ’60s and ’70s. After moving to Nashville in the early ’80s, he joined Jerry Reed’s band.  Over the next several years Dave toured the world with several country artists including Mel Tillis, Vern Gosdin, Charlie Louvin, Dottie West, Chet Atkins, Vince Gill, and others.

In the early ’90s,  Johnny Cash hired Dave to play in his band the Tennessee Three.  Dave has said ‘That started my love affair with the upright bass, and slap bass in particular, that lingers till this day.’  Dave worked with Cash for eleven years, and toward the end, he played bass on most of the American Recordings sessions produced by Rick Rubin.

After Cash passed away,  Dave toured and recorded for five years with Dwight Yoakam. He got off the road after that, since his recording session work had picked up substantially. Coinciding with this, he was a member of the Don Kelley Band for 13 years, considered one of America’s best honky-tonk bands.

With over 500 album credits, including numerous platinum, gold, and Grammy-winning records, over the years Dave has worked with such diverse artists as John Mellencamp, Sturgill Simpson, Chrissie Hynde, Taj Majal, Loretta Lynn,  Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Ian Hunter, Brian Setzer, Dan Auerbach, CeeLo Green, Kurt Vile, Yola, John Anderson, Carrie Underwood, Marcus King, Malcolm Holcombe, Brandy Clark, Joe Ely, Gretchen Peters, Ray LaMontagne, Jake Bugg, Richard Lloyd, Don Schlitz, Faith Hill, Duane Eddy, Kathy Mattea, Rodney Crowell and others.

These days, Dave continues to work sessions and play live regionally with a few artists.  He has his own band, the SloBeats, formed with guitar great from Marty Stuart’s band Kenny Vaughan, and drummer Pete Abbott from the Average White Band. Dave also regularly books sessions in his own studio, Seven Deadly Sins, located right outside Nashville in Goodlettsville, TN. He is a life member of AFM Local 257 in Nashville, TN.

03 Jan 2024S6: E1: Shane Smith ( Shane Smith & The Saints) From Texas Roots to 'Yellowstone' Fame00:31:17

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

As the tour bus rolled into Tacoma, we grabbed a moment with Shane Smith, frontman of Shane Smith & the Saints, amidst the backdrop of a bustling tour schedule. Shane unpacks the journey of their musical grind, from the humbling beginnings in Terrell, Texas, to the moment their tunes echoed through the scenes of "Yellowstone," sparking a wildfire of fandom. His reflections on touring alongside the indomitable Whiskey Myers bring to light the tenacity and grit it takes to carve out a space in the music industry's vast landscape.

Strap in for a ride through the evolution of a songwriter, where passion collides with purpose, and the allure of the road meets the solace of home. Shane Smith's candid tales of shifting from the pursuit of education to chasing the echo of his own music encapsulate the transformation from an eager student to a seasoned artist. Our discussion meanders through the veins of genre-defying creativity, as Shane shares his refusal to be boxed into a single musical identity, all while savoring the thrill of a live show that promises to be as dynamic as their sound.

The episode crescendos with the recounting of an extraordinary acoustic performance, born from the chaos of a weather-stricken gig on the Mexican border. As we tip our hats to the freshly released single "The Graze," we also cast a spotlight on the band's highly anticipated local show in Houston's White Oak Music Hall. Shane Smith & the Saints are a testament to the unwavering spirit of musicians who turn every stone and every storm into a step towards triumph.

17 Jan 2024S6: E2: Jesse Roach - Strings of the Soul00:49:53

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: January 17, 2024
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number: S6: E2: Jesse Roach - Strings of the Soul

I had the pleasure of sitting down with the fiercely talented Jesse Roach, a singer-songwriter whose Texas roots and vibrant energy captivate from the first chord. As we shared stories, she brought the studio to life with "Girls from the South," a track that packs a punch with its bold Southern charm. Our conversation was a journey in itself, tracing the lines of Jesse's transformation from a young rebel to a seasoned artist, and diving into the heart of her songwriting struggles and ambitions. Her honesty about the creative process and the daunting task of living up to songwriting legends will resonate with anyone who's ever faced a blank page and a racing mind.

It's a wonder how the world of a 'military brat' can shape the soul of a musician. Jesse and I explored the nomadic lifestyle's impact on her youth and the tight radius of local gigs that mark the territory of her musical growth. From Huntsville's intimate venues to the grand stage of American Idol, we peeled back the curtain to reveal the less-than-glittery truths of talent shows. My own tale weaves into this tapestry, recounting the Cypress days and the crossroads of choosing between passion or a more trodden path. Jesse's story is a poignant reminder that while the guitar may intimidate, a voice with conviction can soar above the strings.

The episode wraps with the stirring narrative of "Angel Wings," a song that pays homage to a beloved local figure whose spirit lingers in the Cypress bar scene. Our discussion of this melancholic masterpiece opens up a wider conversation on the profound impact such music can have. It turns out, that sometimes a somber tune can be a comfort, an echo of shared human experience. Jesse Roach's stories, insights, and acoustic serenade offer a rare glimpse into the soul of a true artist, and this episode is an invitation to feel the full spectrum of emotions that only music can deliver.

07 Feb 2024S6: E3: Susan Hickman: An Odyssey of Sound and Soul01:37:25

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

When the strings of Susan Hickman's guitar resonate, they tell a story deeper than the melodies they create. Join us as we sit down with the adept singer-songwriter at Crystal Vision studio, where Susan unfolds the narrative of her life in music, from her initial steps guided by a mother's old guitar to the mastery of the Nashville number system. Her journey is one that transcends the personal; it becomes a beacon for those who dream and those who dare to pursue the dreams music plants in their hearts.

The path to musical acumen is seldom walked alone, and Susan's tale is rich with the support of her parents and the shared experiences with siblings that carved her into the artist she is today. We examine the bedrock of her proactive nature as a young musician—the makeshift stages, the church choirs—and how an early admiration for Leanne Rimes sparked a flame that burns fiercely to this day. Susan's chronicle serves not only as an affirmation of parental support's pivotal role but also as a testament to the grit required to stand firm in the music business, particularly for women who must often navigate a labyrinth of industry pressures.

Wrapping up the session, Susan offers a glimpse into the horizon, teasing the treasury of upcoming tours and music that awaits her fans. Our conversation is a celebration, a recognition of the symbiotic relationships within the music community, and a nod to the future. It's about the joy of discovering new talent, the impact of mentorship, and the importance of nurturing the connections that make music a communal triumph. Tune in for an odyssey of sound and soul with Susan Hickman, where every chord strikes a chord with the dreamer in each of us.

BIO:
Dan Smalley may just now be making a name for himself, but he already sings with the voice of experience. And he’s got the bullet scars to prove it. The Alaska native who came of age in Shreveport, Louisiana, sings his confessional, soul-baring songs with deep conviction. Smalley expresses a fresh take on Country music that knows tradition, inspired by the greats of the genre and infused with the swampy sounds of his roots, the Gospel of hardwood church pews and the impassioned delivery of R&B. Artists like Merle Haggard, Ray Charles, Al Green and Willie Nelson provided a musical roadmap for Smalley to follow, and the against-the-grain success of Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson drew him to Nashville. There, he began working with producer Keith Stegall, known for his award-winning work with the likes of Alan Jackson and Zac Brown Band. Ashley McBryde and Dillon Carmichael already have picked up on

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Date: May 29, 2024
Name of podcast: Backstage Pass Radio
Episode title and number: S6: E9: Bill Brown (Houston Astros Hall of Fame Broadcaster - Voices of the Game

SHOW SUMMARY:
My neighbor and Hall of Fame sportscaster Bill Brown, "Brownie," steps up to the mic, not for play-by-play, but for a heart-to-heart on his 30-year love affair with sports broadcasting and the Houston Astros. As we peel back the curtain on the meticulous world of commentating, from gripping hockey games to the narrative-laden pastime of baseball, Brownie opens the vault of his personal and professional highs, including his cherished induction into the Astros' Hall of Fame. But it's not just about the roar of the crowd; we swing into his life's other passions—golf, photography, and the community ties that root us all, inspired by figures like my own father.

With Brownie's storytelling, we're carried through the rhythms of a broadcaster's game day—an early rise, pre-game prep through the final call, and the post-game wrap-up. Discover the unseen challenges, the dedication to craft, and the importance of staying nimble on your feet, especially when the unexpected rain delay throws you a curveball. Then, we step into the bittersweet reality for local broadcasters during the postseason, where the deep-seated connections to their team are put on pause, and the airwaves are commanded by national voices—a stark contrast to the familiar cadence they provide all season.

But wait, there's more than just calls and commentary. Brownie guides us through the world of sports memorabilia, sharing a poignant tale involving Nolan Ryan, and the complexities of baseball's unwritten rules, from retaliation tactics to when to hang up the headset for family time. In a reflective swing, we return to the broadcast booth after retirement, diving into Brownie's passion for writing and the controversial MLB sign-stealing scandal he experienced firsthand. Lastly, we capture the essence of life's richness as Brownie illustrates his journey into photography, threading it with the joy of golf, and the powerful act of giving back within our community, leaving us inspired to find those intersections in our own lives.

Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!

Hope you enjoy my chat with Orlando Florida singer/songwriter Matt Shenk.

Compared to the likes of John Mayer, Glen Hansard, Dave Matthews, and Amos Lee, Matt Shenk brings an effortless blend of acoustic rock and old-school soul to his music and resonating passion to his words.

“Easing souls” throughout Central Florida and beyond, Shenk’s talent, passion and drive have earned him a cult-like following. Born into a musical family, Matt'’s sound was initially inspired by Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, and James Taylor, but evolved over time with the influence of jazz, blues, and anything with soul. He brings that kind of creativity and substance to his music while infusing his own distinct energy into both original songwriting and unique interpretations of covers.

Shenk’s distinctly rich sound has offered him his choice of venue opportunities varying in diversity from The House of Blues to The Hard Rock Hotel to B.B. Kings…and just about everything in between. His widespread musical appeal is surpassed only by the nature of his character. Audiences become fans, fans become friends, friends become unwavering disciples and devotees.

Matt's recently released Kickstarter funded album, “This is Water’ synthesizes his enviable natural talent with thirty years of a well-honed craft. Described as a “professionally produced, well crafted, 12 track gem that is memorable from beginning to end” (PRWEB), sales for “This is Water” reflect its playability, layered depth and heartfelt sound. Receiving high praise, “This is Water’ is inspired by his personal philosophy and impassioned dedication to relatable storytelling through songs and ballads.

Described by Bruce Larson (Orlando Sentinel) as “a modern day singer/songwriter with a lot of old school soul and sincerity,” audiences continue to marvel at Shenk’s transcendent talent, acoustic precision, unparalleled adaptability and extraordinary good nature. As much a lauded musician as your very best friend, Matt Shenk’s commitment to not only entertaining but captivating a crowd makes him the next best thing.
