Hello! Welcome to the new Awesome Friday Games Podcast!

This is a new weekly dive into a new game and a classic title from the archives, and pairs beautifully with our movie podcast like Laphroaig and parmesan. As someone who has very little time to play anything these days, I’m always interested in what catches my attention, so I’m looking forward to sharing that with you.

I also have recently found a place for my large collection of classic games spread over multiple consoles, so I’ll choose one each week to talk about why I love it so much. I’ll sometimes be joined by some special guests, including our very own Matt, for interesting stories and perspectives on games old and new.

In this first episode I look at the surprisingly successful campaign in Call Of Duty: Vanguard, and try to verbalise how much Rez means to me on its 20th anniversary.

Listen, enjoy, and feel free to make suggestions for future episodes!

You can find all this and more on this episode's homepage.

04 Apr 2022Episode 41: An Interview with actor Shawn Doyle on his film Ashgrove (and also Star Trek: Discovery)00:27:47

Salutations applications, and welcome to an Awesome Friday Interview with actor Shawn Doyle! A native of Newfoundland, Shawn has been working steadily in film and television since the early 1990s, and in just the last few years has racked up an impressive filmography that includes recurring appearances in The Expanse, Hannibal, Cardinal (for which he won a Canadian Screen Award last year) and most recently Star Trek: Discovery.

This year he has two films in the Canadian Film Festival, Ashgrove and The Last Mark. It's the former of these two that we sat down to talk about, and it was a genuine pleasure. And yes, because I am huge nerd, I also asked a few questions about his time on Star Trek Discovery.

10 Apr 2022Episode 42: Moonfall & Our Flag Means Death00:51:56

Greeting programs, and welcome to the Awesome Friday Podcast. This week we’re taking a closer look at the new ridiculous (in a good way) Roland Emmerich film Moonfall and the Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi led series Our Flag Means Death. Spoiler alert we loved both of these things, so come and join us for a love fest.

Ed. Note: We had technical difficulties while recording this episode; some interference cropped up that we didn’t hear during recording. While I could minimize it, I couldn’t eliminate it entirely, so apologies for the segments where there is some static. -M

17 Jul 2022Episode 61: Marvel Extravaganza! Ms Marvel, Thor: Love & Thunder, Our MCU Top Ten(s), and The Ultimate MCU Top Ten01:56:41

Greetings, programs, and welcome to our first anniversary! It's hard to believe we relaunched the podcast a year ago to the day, but here we are a year later. We are so grateful for all of you, for your listening and engagement, and for the community that we're starting to build.

It's fitting that this week saw the release of two new Marvel Cinematic Universe entries because that's how the show began. Last year we covered the Disney+ series Loki and the film Black Widow. We decided to make an event of it, so this is a super-sized episode. Not only do we discuss the new Disney+ series Ms Marvel and the new film Thor: Love & Thunder, but we also break down both Simon and my MCU top ten lists, and then we asked over fifty of our friends to contribute to a consensus top ten list. That's right, the top ten MCU entries as decided by over fifty people.

Visit this episode's homepage for streaming links powered by JustWatch for both of the new entries we discussed, a breakdown of the methodology used to determine the consensus top ten, anda. complete list of the more than fifty friends who contributed their own top ten lists. There is also a list of over 30 podcast networks you can find us on: https://awesomefriday.ca/2022/07/podcast-marvel-extravaganza/

A bonus episode is also coming soon, featuring audio clips from some of our friends detailing their favourite MCU films; look for that shortly.

20 Jul 2022Episode 62: Bonus: Our Favourite Marvel Movies featuring over a dozen of our friends *Updated*00:30:23

Greetings, programs and welcome to a special bonus episode of the Awesome Friday Podcast. In our main episode this week, we asked over fifty of our friends to contribute their top ten Marvel Cinematic Universe entries and used those to establish a consensus top ten.

We also asked everyone if they would be willing to record a short audio clip about their favourite with the intent of sprinkling those into the show. Well, we didn’t get one from everyone, but we did get a level of response that made that plan a little untenable. So we used them to build this special bonus episode.

We’d very much like to thank everyone who contributed to the project and to this episode specifically. It has been a lot of fun and really rewarding to see our community come together.

We’re going to start with Simon, and I speaking about our number one Marvel movies from our recent episode and then jump right into our friends speaking about theirs. We hope you enjoy it.
