For this month’s theme of Careers and Entrepreneurship, we bring on a good friend and serial entrepreneur, Mylen Yamamoto Tansingco!! She has a background in education and taught media at the college level while starting her own media company, where she produced digital videos on the side. Now, she runs a full-fledged talent company and manages some familiar faces in the Asian American digital world. On top of that, she also started Cropsticks, a sustainable goods company that was featured on Shark Tank!
“That’s what you do as an entrepreneur, you get kicked down and you get rejected too, but you gotta get back up and you gotta get back into it. Today we’re in over 250 restaurants, we’re in Disneyland, we’re in Hawaiian Airlines, we’re in the Four Seasons.” Tune in to hear Mylen's journey in creating and maintaining two successful companies, and how she's learning to pivot during COVID.

15 Nov 2023 | Living Well with Janet: EMDR, Trauma, and Mental Wellbeing with Dr. Monica Band | 00:40:32
What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and who can benefit from it? Is trauma limited to single-event experiences? How does Gen Z approach mental health versus previous generations?
To help me answer these questions is Dr. Monica Band, an award-winning practicing mental health therapist and educator, specializing in providing trauma-informed care for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), with an emphasis on Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) and LGBTQIA+ communities. She is also the host of a new podcast called I Need to Ask You Something from Lemonada Media and the Jed Foundation, a timely series featuring stories about mental health, told directly from teens across the country.
No matter your circumstance, I believe almost everyone can benefit from better understanding the role that trauma plays in one’s well-being and learn about methods for better coping in today’s chaotic world.

22 Feb 2023 | Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: 5 Ways to Manage Mom Guilt | 00:28:29
Mom guilt is real, and when a bad day makes you feel like a bad mom, just know that you are everything your child needs. I wanted to take this episode to share what mom guilt is (cuz it absolutely is real!), when and how it shows up, how it evolves, and how we can overcome it. No mom is perfect, and every mom makes mistakes. But often, to your kids, even those ‘mistakes’ can be exactly what they need. Your kids think you are the best mom even if you forced a missed nap, watched too much TV, or ate dumplings for dinner for the x-th time this week. Let’s normalize the conversation and talk about it all. Mom guilt - the good, the bad, the guilty.
Here are a few shortcuts if you’d like to hop to a topic that interests you!
[01:03] – My Giggle of the Week – Eating out with a toddler
[02:33] – My Drool of the Week – Dropping the second nap!! Nooo
[04:25] – What is mom guilt?
[06:45] – When and why does mom guilt show up?
[16:32] – 5 ways to manage mom guilt
[22:10] – Outro
I’d love to hear if you also have had or are dealing with mom guilt, and perhaps, what your strategies are to overcome it. Let’s continue learning from one another and helping each other through this journey of parenthood. Share your experience in the comments of AsianBossGirl’s latest Instagram post.
I hope you enjoy!

21 Feb 2024 | No Dumb Questions with Mel: What does Turning 33 Mean to Me? | 00:29:24
As I approach my 33rd birthday this week, I find myself reflecting on the significance of this milestone. In many ways, turning 33 is the age that, in my adolescent mind, symbolized "being an adult", a time when I thought I would have life all figured out. It is also the age I thought I'd be married. However, the contrast between childhood expectations and the realities of adulthood has become abundantly clear.
As I sit down to reflect, I can't escape the feeling that 33 is a new chapter in my life. It's a year brimming with opportunities to confront the fears that both intimidate and exhilarate me. It's a year to break down the barriers of procrastination and finally take action on aspirations. This is the year I want to truly LIVE again!
Join me as I reflect on the past year, blow out the candles on the birthday cake, and share what I hope to feel when turning 33.

23 Sep 2022 | Episode 186: ABG’s 5 Year Anniversary! | 01:22:01
AsianBossGirl just passed our 5th birthday! On September 21, 2017 we released our very first episode, “ABG - What’s in a Name?” At that time, this was very much a passion project - we were three girlfriends with corporate jobs, sitting around a table drinking wine, who decided to share our experiences as Asian American women with the Internet.
Now, five years later, we’ve established a company, a community, and we’ve grown as individuals - all thanks to the amazing support we’ve received from you - our listeners! Thank you for spending your time with us, and reflect with us as we look back on our favorite episodes, compare our past and present aspirations, and send a message to our future selves.
Cheers to the next 5 years!

02 Oct 2020 | Episode 83: Attachment Theory and Me | 00:50:17
Happy October everyone! This month, we are focused on the topic of self-exploration. And today, we will be talking about the fascinating theory of attachment styles. This theory has studied how parents/caregivers have played a significant role in the attachment styles of their children. As children interact with these caregivers as a secure base to explore from and return to, the response from these caregivers leads to the development of patterns of attachment for the child, i.e. are the parent’s responses loving, caring, angry? These interactions then guide the child’s thoughts, feelings, and expectations in later relationships in life, romantic or otherwise.
In the late 1980s, psychologists noticed that interactions between adults are similar to those between children and caregivers. For example, adults feel comforted when those they are attached to are present, or they become anxious or lonely when they are absent. They observed that romantic relationships serve as a secure base that helps people to face the surprises, opportunities, and challenges that life presents.
So today, we’re getting personal and going deep by analyzing our attachment styles!! There are four main styles of attachment: 1) secure attachment, 2) anxious-preoccupied attachment, 3) dismissive-avoidant attachment, and 4) fearful-avoidant attachment. Which do you think we'll be?

01 Mar 2023 | K-Dreaming with Mel: 💋He Kissed How Many Women in the First Night??! Comparing Western & Asian Dating Shows | 00:25:54
Hi K-Dreamers! This episode, for the time being, will be my LAST episode of K-Dreaming with Mel. 😭 This may sound like a shock to some & know that I still love K-Dramas & K-Pop very much.
When we started these mini show series, it was a bit of an exploration of topics for us. At the time, I was very excited to explore the realm of Korean entertainment through a podcast. However, as time moved on, I realized there is much more I want to share with you all. SO with that, I will still be having a mini show & am excited to show an even more vulnerable side of me through it. More details will be shared through our social media along the way 😘
For now & always, I will still be consuming a lot of K-Drama & K-Pop content. I mean Part 2 of The Glory is coming out & I am very excited for it. Lastly, I want to say THANK YOU to those who have joined me with Kdreaming. Thank you so SO much!
With that, let’s kick off our last topic that I know we all have many thoughts on…Comparing Western & Asian Dating Shows!

01 Dec 2023 | Episode 248: Asian Celeb Dating News, Zouk Nightclub’s Singaporean Roots, & Our YouTube Crushes | 00:43:55
We grew up reading pop culture magazines (like Seventeen and Cosmo) and consuming content through shows (E! Entertainment and MTV). But Asian stars and stories were rarely featured. Today, we’re curating our own pop culture series in podcast format, covering everything that’s new in the world of Asian entertainment, business, fashion, and more! In this episode, we share some celebrity gossip (Daniel Henney is off the market?!), significant news in the Asian community (New York made Lunar New Year a public school holiday!) and recent beauty trends (What are the origins of gua sha?).

To help us dig deeper into these topics, I invited Neelu Kaur to the pod - she is a Certified NLP (NeuroLinguistic Programming) coach, certified Yoga Instructor, Ayurveda Specialist, and trained Ericksonian Hypnotherapist. 30 Aug 2024 | Episode 287: Brain Coach Jim Kwik Helps Us Make Our Minds Limitless | 01:01:29
Have you ever wondered if you’re living up to the full potential of your brain power? Today’s guest, Jim Kwik, has dedicated his career to helping people learn better and faster, improve focus, and optimize their memory. After experiencing a traumatic brain injury as a child, Jim faced many learning challenges and was even written off as “the boy with the broken brain” by his teachers. However, he now knows that the brain is only as limited as you think it is; in fact, the mind is limitless, and Jim can show you how to unlock that potential. You’re going to want some pen and paper for this, as Jim shares ways to help your brain age healthily, the importance of taking smaller steps, and why your brain learns best through creation, not consumption.

05 Oct 2022 | Living Well with Janet: That Time I Went to Chinese Medicine School | 00:24:21
Those of you who have listened to some of our earlier episodes at ABG know that I have switched careers many times. I started out at one of the Big 4s working in global transfer pricing, then in social enterprise, before switching to strategy in advertising, and finally landing in UX design before going full time on ABG. However, between my stint in Advertising and my time in UX design, I actually spent about half a year in Chinese Medicine School. If you’re curious about how and why I did this, what the experience was like, and what I learned, listen in!

02 Oct 2024 | Spill the Baby Tea: My Emotional Rollercoaster with Acupuncture for Fertility - What I Wish I Knew | 00:26:39
In this episode of Spill the Baby Tea, I’m getting deeply personal as I share my experience with acupuncture on our journey to conceive again after the heart-wrenching loss of our first pregnancy. After our miscarriage, I found myself searching for anything that could help us heal and increase our chances of bringing a little one into our lives. Acupuncture seemed like a gentle, holistic approach, but what I wasn’t prepared for was the emotional toll—on top of the physical discomfort and financial strain. I’ll take you through what it’s like—the sadness, the frustrations, the small moments of hope, the crying in the car... the weight of it all. If you’ve ever been curious about acupuncture for fertility or are navigating your own fertility journey, this episode is for you <3

16 Apr 2021 | Episode 111: A Conversation with Janet’s Ex, feat. Wesley Chan (from Wong Fu Productions) | 01:13:56
Romantic relationships are one of the most challenging types of relationships to navigate. And while some connections hold strong and end in a beautiful lifetime together, many fizzle out. In episode 85, we each wrote a letter to our exes. It was the first time we got that open and vulnerable with one of our past relationships on this podcast! And so many of you enjoyed hearing our letters, especially the idea that opening old wounds and memories can actually be a healing process, if approached with gratitude in mind.
In this episode, Janet takes it one step further and has a conversation with an ex. His name is Wesley Chan (we call him Wes), and their relationship was a meaningful one, though short-lived. He is also one of the co-founders of WongFu Productions, and a good friend of ours.
This will also be the first time they reflect back on their college relationship together, the first time, in 17 years! That’s all we’ll say for now -- but we hope you enjoy this chat between two good friends, once lovers.

Never Have I Ever came onto the Netflix scene in April of 2020 and has since been described as a watershed moment for South Asian representation in Hollywood. Known for breaking Asian stereotypes, the series was created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher and is a coming-of-age comedy and teen drama partially based on Kaling’s childhood. Today, our guest, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, captured the hearts of many by playing the main character, Devi, an Indian American high school student coping with her father's death. Tune in as she shares about growing up in Mississauga, whom Maitreyi would choose of her two on-TV love interests: Paxton or Ben?!, and what it means to represent for the Tamil community at such a young age in the world of Hollywood.

31 Jul 2020 | Episode 74: What's Your Number (Enneagram, that is)? | 00:57:32
The Enneagram is a personality model made up of 9 types. We have had a couple of episodes in which we analyze each other’s personalities - there was Episode 14 where we discussed each of our horoscopes and zodiac signs, and Episode 17 which focused on our Meyers Briggs personality types. Our listeners have requested that we also dedicate an episode to the Enneagram - so here it is! We review each of our results, discuss how accurate we think this test is, what shocked us the most about our results, and get into some very deep and personal analyses about our fears and values.
Have you taken the Enneagram test? Share your results with us in the comments below!

Summer is all about sunshine and longer days spent with loved ones. This year in particular, we want to take full advantage of this season by embracing our summer-loving selves with confidence and unleashing our wild side! It’s the perfect time to look back on some of the hilarious (sometimes embarrassing) and unforgettable moments with friends. We even dive into a bit of the hypothetical: What if you and your friend are stranded on a desert island? How do you flirt at a summer pool party? And: If you were a popsicle, what seductive name would you give yourself?
Grab a friend, and let us know how you would answer these questions in the comments!

29 Sep 2023 | Episode 239: My Best Friend Doesn’t Like My Boyfriend, Any Advice? (Friendship Q&A) | 00:46:49
Friendships, just like romantic relationships, can sometimes be difficult to navigate, particularly as you move through different stages of life. As you graduate from college, get married, start a family, etc., friendships will often grow and change as you do. We asked you to send in questions: how to make new friends, how to maintain old friendships (or even leave toxic ones), and how platonic relationships can be as equally meaningful as romantic ones.

19 Jan 2023 | Episode 203: Do I Need Time Away From My Partner? | 01:00:00
After a big holiday season, and with even more holidays coming up in the next two months, it can be difficult to find personal time to recharge and relax. Especially when you have to balance your own plans with your Significant Other’s! This was Helen’s first year as a family of 3 with a toddler, while Mel and Janet spent the holidays with SO’s for the first time in a while. From traveling to meet family, to triple birthday celebrations, our social calendars were more packed than usual! On today’s episode, we discuss how we managed to balance all these events, the gripes and tensions that came up along the way, and what lessons we learned from these experiences.
One way to make gatherings less stressful is by staying up to date with your COVID vaccines! Find updated vaccines near you at vaccines.gov. This episode was paid for by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Leave us a clock emoji in our Instagram post if you also need some time away from your partner!

31 May 2024 | Episode 274: Helen and Philip Share Their Miscarriage Story & How to Support Loved Ones | 00:55:19
Earlier this year, Helen went through a miscarriage, and since then she’s been navigating this devastating loss alongside her husband Philip. From doctor visits to sharing the news, every step along the way has been a difficult one. It’s unfortunate to learn that about 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage, and expectant parents often have to go through their grief in silence, and alone. For this reason, Helen and Philip want to share their personal story to bring more visibility to the experience of miscarriage and reduce the stigma around talking about it. They also offer some tips for how we as a community can support loved ones going through similar experiences.
To anyone who has experienced such loss, we see you, and our hearts go out to you.
*Content Warning: This episode deals with the difficult topics of grief and loss, along with some graphic details surrounding the miscarriage experience.

09 Oct 2024 | No Dumb Questions with Mel: Love Beyond Words - A Conversation with Author & Designer Jocelyn Chung | 00:46:15
In this heartwarming episode of No Dumb Questions, I’m thrilled to welcome Jocelyn Chung, a graphic designer, creator, and newly-published children's book author, to the podcast! We instantly connected during my last visit to Taiwan, and today we’re diving into her debut book, “When Love is More Than Words”, a story that beautifully captures how love transcends language, especially within Asian families—a theme that deeply resonates with me, having grown up with my grandparents and extended family.
Jocelyn shares the inspiration behind her book, how her upbringing in a Taiwanese-American household influenced her storytelling, and the creative journey from designer to author. We also explore the challenges she faced as a first-time author and the cultural values she hopes to pass on through her work. Whether you love children's books or simply believe in the power of love beyond words, this episode is a must-listen!

03 Feb 2023 | Episode 205: Getting Laid Off Isn't Your Fault - with Matt Ogawa, VP of Human Resources at Meta | 00:54:24
Unexpected and dreaded layoffs may have just happened at your company, and if your job was unfortunately impacted… What should you do next?
In recent months, we’ve seen staggering numbers of layoffs in the news, and how this has affected many of our friends working in corporate. To provide additional support and resources, we invited Matt Ogawa, the Vice President of HR Business Partners at Meta Inc., to help shed some light on the other side of the layoffs conversation. You may be wondering: Could I have improved my performance to prevent a layoff? How early do companies know that layoffs are in the pipeline? And what’s the best way to respond to interview questions when you’re asked about your previous role?
Matt’s team at Meta focuses on organizational design, talent management, and leadership coaching. He’s also involved in many facets of the API community and is the Executive Advisor for Meta’s API resource group. Having been on both sides of the layoff process, he knows how difficult these situations are for impacted employees. We hope this episode can provide clarity and helpful advice as you find your footing and regain your sense of security again.

18 Feb 2022 | Episode 155: Finding Love Through The Podcast with Anna Lee & Amy Lee | 01:05:17
Finding love through our podcast is something Janet & Mel both thought they would potentially achieve. A lot of their friends joke around asking if anyone has slid through the DM’s or if listeners have sent potential matches & the answer is no LOL
However, it looks like some of our guests are having better luck finding love through our ABG podcast. If you remember Ep 66 & Ep 68, we brought on our good friend Anna Lee to talk through her coming out story. We later found out that another ABG listener, Amy, really connected with Anna’s story and made her move.

09 Feb 2024 | Episode 258: “This Trip Means I Do”?? - Mel & Ray Travel to Asia | 00:43:03
Mel recently traveled to Japan & Taiwan to visit family… but she didn’t go alone! She went with her boyfriend Ray, exploring new cities like Tokyo and Kyoto together, and yes, bringing Ray to meet her extended family for the first time. During ABG’s latest Asia trip, Mel was chasing someone we have now lovingly deemed “The Fuckboi” – so going from that to bringing your S.O. to meet Grandpa?! That’s a big deal.
In this episode, Mel shares the highs & lows of her vacation, helpful tips for anyone who might be planning to travel to Asia (solo, or with a partner), and new things she learned about herself and her partner along the way.

24 May 2024 | Episode 273: How to Spot & Help the Narcissists in Your Life - ft. Alyssa “Lia” Mancao | 00:46:39
Have you ever wondered if someone you know is a Narcissist? Maybe they have very high self-esteem, but when does self-confidence cross the line into an unhealthy level of self-importance? To help shed some light on this topic, we’re so excited to have Alyssa “Lia” Mancao back on the podcast! Last time, we spoke with Lia about the Importance of Chemistry vs. Compatibility in Relationships, but one of her particular specialties is helping people recover from narcissistic abuse. She walks us through the differences between adaptive and maladaptive narcissism, and why narcissists often employ manipulative techniques like negging and love bombing. We also talk about how mental health symptoms manifest in AANHPI communities and tips for how to bring a parent or family member to therapy.
Lia is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and owner of Alyssa Marie Wellness, a group practice that employs a team of licensed psychotherapists. If you have any questions to ask her next time we have her on the show, leave them in the comments below!

As humans, we all have our personal opinions and preferences, but some topics are particularly polarizing. So today, we’re sharing (and debating) our own hot takes: Should kids be invited to weddings? Is Timothée Chalamet hot? Is age just a number? and more!

28 May 2020 | Episode 66: Coming Out with Anna Lee and Justin Rodjanapanyakul | 00:56:35
This episode comes at the cusp of May and June - one month celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage, and the other, LGBTQI with Pride month. Identity plays such a big role in a person’s life, and there are so many facets to it. In this episode, we explore sexual orientation, specifically, homosexuality, and the nuances of what that means when you’re Asian American. Our two guests are very good friends of ours and after having many of these types of conversations offline, we are so happy to offer our platform for them to share their stories.
Anna Lee is a very close friend of Mel's who resides in San Francisco where she works at Facebook as a Business Lead for Entertainment. Anna goes by the pronouns of she/her and identifies as queer. Justin Rodjanapanyakul is a close friend of all 3 of ours (you might recognize him in some of our Instagram posts where he has graciously offered his photography skills). Justin is based in the Los Angeles area where he is a musician and YouTuber, known as one half of the duo, JRodTwins. Justin goes by the pronouns he/his and his sexual orientation is gay.
If you resonated with today's guests, leave a <3 emoji in the comments!

20 Nov 2024 | No Dumb Questions with Mel: The Other Side of Moving to NYC - My Loneliness Story | 00:33:32
How am I really doing in NYC?
Eight months in, and it’s time to get real about life in New York. I’ve shared glimpses of my excitement about the city, but behind the scenes, it’s been… different. I didn’t think moving here would feel this lonely, but leaving behind a tight-knit group of friends and adjusting to new rhythms has been harder than I ever expected. It’s tough to admit, but this might be the loneliest I’ve ever felt.
In this episode, I’m opening up about what it’s really been like—navigating big-city life, missing familiar faces, and learning that making new friends as an adult isn’t as easy as it sounds. Sometimes, I find myself wishing for just one effortless conversation with people who know me. Between spending days mostly alone and feeling the weight of vulnerability fatigue, it’s been a rollercoaster. I’m still figuring it out, and I hope sharing this helps anyone else feeling a little out of place to know you’re not alone.
So, let’s get into it: the highs, the lows, and the in-between moments of finding myself in NYC.

13 Jan 2023 | Episode 202: Behind the Scenes of “Lucky Cat” - Our First Children’s Book! with Illustrator, Eunice Chen | 00:46:54
Last Fall, our first children’s book “Lucky Cat” made its way onto bookshelves all around the world. Since then, we’ve had such a heartwarming response from parents and kids who have loved June and her family’s story as immigrants in America, along with their adorable and magical Lucky Cat. Writing a children’s book has always been a “blue-sky goal” for us, and we’re so proud to share our journey with you all today, a process that stretched over the course of several years. From being contacted by a UK publisher, to where we found inspiration for the story, and the several drafts of revisions, we really got a crash course in what it takes for a book to come to life!
Joining us to discuss our creative process is our amazing illustrator, Eunice Chen. Eunice is an Asian-American artist who lives in New York City with her husband, son, and corgi. After building a 10-year career in education, she returned to her childhood love of art, which led her to our stunning picture book that you can hold in your hands today!
We are currently holding a book drive to donate 2,500 copies of “Lucky Cat” to libraries and early childhood literacy. Join us in bringing greater representation in children’s storytelling and sharing the Lucky Cat story! Check out https://donorbox.org/lucky-cat-jan-2023-book-drive for more information.

04 Oct 2024 | Episode 292: The 4 Levels of a Relationship & How to Jump from Attraction to Commitment | 01:05:08
Matthew Hussey revealed “the best relationship advice that no one ever told you” on The Mel Robbins Podcast recently in the form of the “4 Levels” framework. It sounds relatively straightforward: 1) Admiration, 2) Mutual Attraction, 3) Commitment, and 4) Compatibility. But personal experience proves that getting from one level to the next requires risk-taking and emotional vulnerability. So how do you structure these hard conversations with a partner to get to that next level?

31 Jan 2023 | Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: Not Showering for a Month!? My Postpartum Confinement Period (坐月子) | 00:28:31
The postpartum period, or the “4th” trimester, can look different for many people depending on one’s cultural and societal expectations for this period of time. For me, all expectations went out the window and were guided by the one and only, Momma Wu. My mom stayed with me for a month to administer my postpartum confinement period, aka 坐月子, which literally translates to “sit for one month”. Many believe this is one of the most important periods when the mother must let her body recover and be well-nourished with confinement meals high in nutrients that aid in every step of recovery. So, what did I eat? Did I sleep? Did I shower? Did it work?! I share all of that on today’s episode.
Here are a few shortcuts if you’d like to hop to a topic that interests you!
[01:40] – My Giggle of the Week – Getting a Nanny
[04:53] – My Drool of the Week – How much time are we giving our loved ones?
[06:21] – What is the postpartum confinement period?
[07:46] – What Day 1 looked like
[09:37] – Why are confinement period foods so important during this time?
[13:30] – Confinement personal hygiene practices
[18:51] – Cultural and generational differences
[22:24] – Conclusion – did it work!?
After you’ve taken a listen, let me know in the comments of our IG post, linked here, if you related to this episode in any way. If you also experienced “sitting month”, I would love to hear about it! How did your confinement period differ from my experience, or was it very similar? Did you have your mom administer your confinement period? Or did your MIL do it, which I could see being even more intense with all the things you might hold back on saying! Or did you hire a confinement nanny? And if you’re planning on doing it – what are you most looking forward to? As always, thank you for allowing me to share my personal journey with you all. I have so much more to learn and would love to continue connecting and learning from all of you out there.
I hope you enjoy!

02 Aug 2023 | Living Well with Janet: I’m an Introvert and I have to host a social event - Help! 🎉😳🎉 | 00:18:22
It’s been a pretty big year for me for a number of reasons, but an even bigger year for a few of my loved ones. As someone who is fairly introverted and generally shies away from hosting events and celebrations, I’ve had to step into my discomfort a couple of times this year. In this episode, I share how I hosted three major social events as someone who isn't the hosting type - my partner's birthday, a best friend's bachelorette, and my dad's retirement party. If you're also an introvert and/or not the hosting type, I hope this episode provides you with some helpful tips!

19 May 2023 | Episode 220: Navigating Divorce and Co-Parenting with Cathy Nguyen | 00:46:44
One of the most difficult life transitions someone can go through is letting go of a relationship and going through the process of a divorce. It’s a deeply personal journey, so we are extremely grateful that our dear friend Cathy Nguyen is joining us today to share how her experience with divorce has given her a new perspective on motherhood and self-love.
Cathy has been on the ABG podcast before, but you may also recognize her from Wong Fu Productions’ “Strangers, Again” and “Strangers Never Again” series, or her social content featuring her incredible relationship with her daughter, Isla.

26 Aug 2022 | Episode 182: Q&A - Mel’s New Beau, Janet’s Vitamin Lab, and Helen’s Baby Number Two??!! | 00:56:03
August is coming to a close, so it’s time to sit down and catch up with a Q&A! We asked you all to submit your burning questions to our Discord (join the AsianBossGirl Collective here!) and our Instagram, and found that many of you are curious to know more details about recent changes in our lives. Who has influenced our outlook on love and life in the past year? What’s the latest update on Mel’s new beau? And most importantly, what is the first aisle you go to at a Target, Trader Joe’s, or Costco?
We’d love to hear your perspectives on some of these questions as well: What’s your go-to karaoke song? Are bananas located at the entrance of your Trader Joe’s store? Let us know in the comments!

It has been an incredibly dynamic last couple of weeks for us personally at ABG, and for the world at large. So, even though we are off season, we wanted to check in with you all and share a special episode to talk about how we are personally experiencing the world-wide COVID-19 incident, in hopes that it might help some of you out there feel more connected, prompt conversations with your personal circles, or even just offer a brief moment of reprieve from your new daily routine. We hope you are all keeping safe, informed, and taking care of yourselves mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Thank you to those who are battling this pandemic on the frontlines and allowing most of us to remain safely at home. This episode was recorded on March 20, 2020 - the state of events may have changed drastically by the time you listen to this episode, so we ask for your understanding toward the opinions of the issues discussed.

25 Jun 2021 | Episode 121: Hot Girl Summer Then & Now | 01:00:33
It is officially summer! And we could not be more excited!! We thought it would be fun to share our favorite summer memories from when we were kids, since summer marked the end of the school year & summer vacation was actually a thing -- remember those days?
For anyone who hasn't heard of the term “Hot Girl Summer” just yet, Coach Meg aka Megan thee Stallion said it best -- “Hot girl summer is about just being you, just having fun. It’s turning up, driving the boat, and not giving a damn about what nobody’s saying.” Welp, we don't have a boat, but we're ready to not give a damn and turn UP this summer! Even if it means turning up under the covers with a nice, cozy nap :). What are you excited for this summer??

06 Dec 2023 | Living Well with Janet: The Thing with Grief Is… | 00:17:55
When a loss happens (a death, a job, a breakup, whatever) some people experience emotions right away. For me, I usually cry a bit but then soldier on and attend to the To Dos. Only when things calm down do the feelings come. So when I went through a pretty big breakup back in August, while I cried when it initially happened, I became focused on the logistics of moving out, finding a new living situation, and taking care of my car incident (check out Living Well with Janet: How to Keep a Positive Mindset When Everything Feels Like it’s Going to for the bitter tea ). Now, months and months later, I've had more time to process and really think about and feel all the things this past relationship and breakup meant for me. So I want to share a story of how I found myself bawling, alone in my car on the traffic-lined streets of LA, to a Taylor Swift song blasting in the background. What about you? Are you someone who feels grief immediately or does it take time to hit you?

25 Nov 2022 | Episode 195: ABG Favorites - 36 Questions to Fall in Love (Episode 35) | 00:56:51
“The 36 Questions That Lead to Love” by Daniel Jones on The New York Times challenges friends and couples to be candid through a series of personal questions. There are three sets of twelve questions each, with increasing levels of vulnerability. This activity is based on a psychology study that explored how intimate and honest conversation creates connection and increases closeness, even if the participants were strangers at the start.
After starting a podcast and business together, we know a lot about one another, but we wanted to challenge ourselves in this episode to explore even deeper levels of closeness through this activity. Tune in as we share what our perfect day looks like, how often we sing to ourselves, and what one quality or ability we would want to gain.
As yet another year comes to a close, it’s always nice to look back on past episodes and hear what’s changed over the years. Today we’re playing one of Janet’s favorite episodes: our very first episode of Season 4 (we’re now on Season 16!), which she loves for the intimate conversation we shared while recording. We answered Set I in this episode, but you can also go back to listen to Part 2 on Episode 37: 36 Questions to Fall in Love (Part II).
Leave us a heart in the comments if you would explore these questions with a friend, acquaintance, or stranger!

20 May 2022 | Episode 168: Asian American Identity with Old Navy’s Head of Voice, Jeanine Pang | 01:12:10
In our last episode, the three of us talked about our relationships with our Asian American identity. Today, as we often do on this podcast, we have invited a guest to offer a different perspective on this topic.
She is the Senior Creative Director, Head of Voice at Old Navy, a brand often associated with traditional Americana when we were teenagers - I don’t know if anyone else remembers those Old Navy 4th of July T-shirts, but they were pretty iconic and widely worn when we were young. Jeanine also happens to be an Asian American woman.
As Head of Voice, she’s created award-winning marketing campaigns for the brand, including the size-inclusive Bodequality! campaign last year. Before Old Navy, she has written and edited for Vogue, W Magazine, Refinery29, and Opening Ceremony. She also has a masters in journalism from columbia university, and has written numerous culture features and op-eds. In our personal conversations, she has shared her passion for the Asian American identity - thinking through questions like “What does it mean to be Asian? and “What does it mean to be American?” We shared some of our own perspectives on this topic in the last episode, and now, we get to hear from Jeanine.
This month, we’re working with Old Navy on a campaign to celebrate our AAPI heritage and reclaim what it means to be ‘American’ in 2022”. We are so pleased to be partnering with them on this very important conversation, so thank you, Old Navy, for sponsoring this episode.

21 Aug 2024 | Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: Potty Training - When the Poo Hits the Floor (Literally!) | 00:32:59
In this episode of Spill the Baby Tea, I'm diving into the wild and sometimes messy world of fully potty training a toddler boy by 2.5 years old. Potty training is no joke, and trust me, we’ve had our fair share of challenges -- like that one time we had a major potty accident at Disneyland (yes, it’s as chaotic as it sounds). I'll be sharing all the tips and tricks that helped us get through this milestone. From choosing the right potty gear to figuring out the best timing and techniques, I’ll walk you through what worked for us and what didn’t, so you can find your own path through this milestone. Whether you're in the thick of potty training or just getting ready for it, this episode is here to offer support, encouragement, and a few laughs along the way. Tune in and let’s navigate this potty training journey together!

04 Feb 2022 | Episode 153: Breakups - When Do You Know It’s Over? | 01:01:41
It's the month of Valentine’s Day, so I'm sure your feed is not short on sweet, lovey-dovey content about romance. But let's be real - romantic love isn’t all butterflies and rainbows, and especially in our mid-20s and onward, it often takes on a different weight. Romantic love during this period in life can be incredibly complex – working through each individual’s past relationship “traumas”, ourselves changing and figuring out who we are and what type of partner we are most compatible with, and not to mention differing communication styles and potentially different future goals that evolve during the relationship. Often times a breakup is not just a “change of heart”, but due to multiple factors. To kick-off "the month of love", we are dedicating an episode to that period when a romantic relationship starts to devolve, and eventually ends. Leave a 💔in the comments if you feel us on this topic!

01 Mar 2024 | Episode 261: How to Flirt - Playful Competition, Body Language, & Practicing with a Pillow?? | 00:52:10
Today, we’re following up on one of Janet’s personal 2024 goals – learning how to flirt. Flirting is a bit of an art; it’s often a combination of charisma, body language, and EQ, but different things will work for different people. Sometimes though, it can be challenging to tell when someone is flirting with you, or even to make your own intentions clear without miscommunication. So we’re here to share advice on how to read flirting cues, discuss what kind of flirt we are (Playful? Sincere?) and recall some of our best (& worst) flirting experiences.
What’s your go-to line to start up a conversation? Let us know in the comments!

17 Jan 2024 | Living Well with Janet: In My Play Era, I Took a Heels Class | 00:21:42
Play is the act of doing something purely for enjoyment. More often than not, we prioritize the practical. Our adult lives are filled with responsibilities to people at work, to our partners, to kids, parents, extended family, etc. And when it comes to ourselves, there is no shortage of tasks, activities, and engagements that we stack onto our to-do lists for personal and professional development. But play, the act of doing something purely for enjoyment, is so beneficial - essential even - to a well-lived life. This year, I'm on a mission to play more. In this episode, I share that I take a heels class. Listen in as I share my experience - why I chose this as my activity of play, what I learned, and tips for anyone who is also interested in taking a heels class.

30 Aug 2023 | Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: My Baby Was AT My WEDDING?! | 00:28:15
Never in all the years I've dreamed up my wedding did I think I’d have my baby by my side. Never could I imagine, even now, not having our lil kiwi head right there with us. Our little man reveled in every moment of the day -- calling out to us with his cheerful "mama baba!" during the ceremony, effortlessly floating from one guest to the other, his infectious energy lighting up the dance floor. He definitely had the best time of his tiny little life and became a true highlight of our wedding.
This episode is dedicated to how we planned the logistics of having our baby at our wedding, as well as recounting some of the more special moments of how we incorporated him into our wedding.
For those who also chose the "non-traditional" path of welcoming a baby before their wedding, we'd love to hear how you artfully integrated your baby into your wedding day. Feel free to share your experiences in the comments of AsianBossGIrl’s latest Instagram post, linked here!
I hope you enjoy!

10 Apr 2024 | Living Well with Janet: Turns Out that Play Is a Mindset, Not an Activity | 00:20:49
In a previous episode, I talked about the importance of play and how I have been trying to incorporate more of it into my life. *Spoiler alert* In that episode (In My Play Era, I Took a Heels Class) I talked about how scheduling a playful activity like a dance class actually wasn’t the best way to get into a state of play. In this episode I share a moment when I unexpectedly, and without planning, found myself in a state of play. How and doing what? You’ll have to listen to find out :)
Speaking of play, I'll be traveling to Bali for the first time this September - a little Birthday gift to myself :) If you'd like to join, more details and sign up here: Bali 2024 Trip Page

05 Mar 2021 | Episode 105: Let's Talk About BOOBS | 01:00:49
Today we are going to be talking about...Boobs. Breasts, tits, hoohahs, boobies - whatever you want to call them, they are a noteworthy part of the human body, and hold particular anatomical and symbolic meaning.
Different people will conjure up different associations and ideals when it comes to the topic of boobs. Today, we want to discuss it from the perspective of 3 cis-gendered Asian American women. We’re going to talk about our personal experiences: what our boobs mean to us, recalling our relationship with them through those awkward teenage years, reflecting on social perceptions (for example the idea that Asian women have particularly small boobs), bra and personality associations, and more.
If you enjoyed this episode, tell us about your first training bra in the comments!

12 Nov 2021 | Episode 141: The Stories Our Parents Never Told Us | 01:18:13
In today’s episode, we dig a little deeper with our parents, to hear & share the stories that they never told us. As we get older, we realize we (their children) are the only ones who will live to carry on our parents' journeys and legacies. From stories of their adolescence playing on the rooftops of a small village in China, to pains they felt in being separated from their own parents as they assimilated to America, to their meet-cute at a random mahjong night...we share all of this in today's episode. We hope these stories get some light as we pass down these never-been-shared tales from our parents & encourage you all to have these convos with your family members as you sit down for the holidays.

After going through a significant breakup, it can be difficult to get back into dating. Opening yourself up to new people and experiences might be intimidating, or you might even find that you have new priorities. But if you’re ready to start dating again, it’s always good to reflect on the positives & negatives of your previous relationship to see what you’d like to look for in the next one. Today, Janet is sharing her personal perspective on this topic, as someone who has started dating again after a pretty big breakup, and opening up about a key relationship that defined her last year. She also talks about why she’s given herself permission to take dating at her own pace, and offers some advice to anyone else who may be healing after breakups.

It is probably one of the most elusive things pursued by humankind. The purpose of this holiday is to make people around the world realize the importance of happiness within their lives. In honor of this mission, this episode explores happiness in my own life and prompts you to think about it in yours.

23 Oct 2020 | Episode 86: Birds, Whales, Fails, and All the Scary Tales -- Our Greatest Fears!! | 01:16:05
This month, we are focusing on the topic of Self Exploration, and as we near the end of October and edge closer to the spooktacular day of Hallow’s Eve, otherwise known as Halloween, we thought it would be appropriate to dedicate an episode to OUR GREATEST FEARS!!
Fear is one of the seven universal emotions experienced by everyone around the world. Fear arises with the threat of harm, either physical, emotional, or psychological, real, or imagined. While traditionally considered a “negative” emotion, fear actually serves an important role in keeping us safe as it mobilizes us to cope with potential danger.
Today, we discuss everything from surface-level phobias like clowns, whales, birds, holes??? to deeply significant life fears, like lack of direction, failure, public speaking, and all.
What would you add to this list? Let us know in the comments below!

22 Mar 2024 | Episode 264: Dating Red Flags, Deal Breakers, and Worst First Date Locations | 00:50:41
As you navigate the dating world, it’s important to know what you’re looking for and to watch out for those green, beige, and red flags. We’ve had our fair share of red flag experiences that have taught us more about ourselves and what we’re unwilling to compromise on. If a guy isn’t super action-oriented, or if someone doesn’t want to have kids, these could be major red flags, or even deal breakers for a relationship. And what about red flags when it comes to 1st date locations? Zoos and buffets are off the table for us, but what if someone asked us to be their plus-one to a wedding?!
Would you go to a wedding for a 1st date? Let us know in the comments!

In my 20's, living with someone was a means to an end (LA rent is expensive!) and I definitely faced some insecurities with this situation. Now, in my 30's living with people comes with both tangible reasons and other benefits I now truly value.
Do you live alone or also have roommates? Take a listen & let me know if you can relate!

26 Oct 2022 | Living Well with Janet: I Had an Energy Healing Session and Here’s What Happened | 00:21:19
Have you ever heard of “energy healing”, “Reiki”, or phrases like “balancing your chakras”? As someone who started my interest in wellness rooted more in traditional Western concepts of nutrition and health, energy healing is something I might have rolled my eyes at a decade ago. But since that time, I have been more curious about this modality of wellness, of healing. If you’re in the same boat as me – curious about this modality, but a little skeptical – listen to this episode where I share about my first energy healing experience (live audio from the session included!). Have you ever had an energy healing session? Or are you interested in trying it? Let me know in the comments!

07 Jun 2023 | Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: How to Find Yourself Again as a New Parent feat. Executive & Life Coach, Bea Kim | 00:52:49
Today’s guest answers all of life’s burning questions. “I feel like I’ve lost myself. I don’t know who I am anymore. How do I find myself again?” “How do I live a more intentional life?” “I want to be present for my family and make Partner, but how can I do both?” “What are some tactical ways to overcome burnout?”
Bea Kim is an Executive & Life Coach who primarily serves working parents, high-potential leaders and executives, and she has worked directly with larger companies like Google, Adobe, and Facebook. She is also a group coach for the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Helen here! I am all about tactical advice, and less about the woo-woo (even though Wu is my last name ;)). Bea Kim provides just that in this episode – tangible ways to lead a more intentional life. Straight from our editor: “Bea is so insightful and such a great speaker! I feel like I learned a lot that could be applied to my life, even though I'm not a parent.”

23 Oct 2024 | Spill the Baby Tea with Helen: Discipline 101 - Navigating Those Toddler Tantrums | 00:33:07
In this episode of Spill the Baby Tea, I’m diving into one of the most challenging yet essential aspects of parenting—discipline. As my own 2 (almost 3) year-old toddler reaches that age where boundaries and lessons are really starting to push my buttons! I’ve been exploring the best ways to approach discipline that feel supportive, nurturing, and effective. When do we start disciplining our little ones, and how do we do it in a way that feels right for our families? From positive discipline to time-ins, natural consequences, and setting clear but compassionate boundaries, I did the research so you don't have to. We’ll talk about how to stay calm (even when it’s really hard!) and teach our kids important lessons in a loving, gentle way. If you’re navigating this phase or just getting ready for it, I hope this episode offers some helpful tips and encouragement

25 Mar 2022 | Episode 160: Changes & Transitions in your Early 20's & 30's with ABG Team Members Ashley & Haemee | 01:04:52
The topic of life transitions is a popular one among our listeners, and as many of you may know, ABG is no longer just Helen, Mel, and Janet - we also have a wonderful team of women who keep ABG running – women who also have their own perspectives and experiences that we know many of you can relate to.
Today, we have our social media coordinator, Ashley, and our newsletter editor, Haemee on the pod to share life transitions that they are currently working through in their lives. Ashley, being in her early 20's, graduated college in the pandemic and started her first corporate job. Haemee, being in her early 30's, uprooted her life in New York and moved to Los Angeles to shake things up. Both of these women are going through different things, but have the shared experience of going through changes and transitions.
Tune in as we talk through these uncertain feelings and situations with Ashley & Haemee!
