17 Nov 2019Episode 38 - Hobby Show - Adepta Sororitas Previews00:48:12

Following our oh-so-confident predictions of the recent GW preview seminar at Blood and Glory, we reflect on how accurate (or not!) our predictions were.

Despite not having the full Codex in our grubby mitts, we also discuss some of the recent teases of the Adepta Sororitas rules from Warhammer Community. Some of the combos are already looking fairly tasty. Just how many Multi-Melta Dominions is enough?

13 Oct 2021Episode 71 - War Zone Octarius I - Tyranids vs Inquisition00:59:43

Welcome to the Ashes of the Imperium!

In this episode Dan and Steve talk all about the latest Flashpoint articles in White Dwarf! This time we explore War Zone Octarius and the goings-on in this segment of the galaxy...

The team talk about what Crusade forces they'd create to match the on-going Octarius narrative, which will soon be followed by some Campaign Books. Steve creates a sneaky Ordo Xenos force on a Jurassic Park-esque hunt for Tyranid bioforms, whereas Dan takes to the skies to gather biomass of his own as a Tyranid army idea unfurls its wings.

Which Tyranid model or unit would you most like to see updated? Or perhaps a new unit that hasn't been made in plastic before? Let us know on our social media channels, we'd love to hear from you!

12 Oct 2019Episode 36 - Review Show - Phoenix Rising and New Aeldari Rules01:13:01

The Psychic Awakening has… woken up? Dan and Steve crack open the new Phoenix Rising book, the first in the Psychic Awakening campaign series.

This book is absolutely rammed full of content for Craftworlds, Drukhari and Ynnari. If you’re not a pointy-eared fan, then you’ll probably want to know about all the new rules that Aeldari of all types are about to bring to bear against you on the tabletop.

There’s even stuff in here to make Aeldari Flyers even better. That’s not even a joke.

We also discuss the new Adepta Sororitas battle box, why internet trolls can get in the sea and Dan’s progress on his Sons of Medusa!

05 Apr 2021Episode 66 - Hobby Show - How To Forge Your Own Narrative00:59:54

Welcome to the Ashes of the Imperium!

In this episode Steve and listener Lee explore how he could shape and expand his new narrative project. With a lifelong love of Space Marines, Lee wants to take advantage of the expanding Crusade rules and create something unique for when lockdown is relaxed enough for him to get gaming with mates again.

Lots of questions and options are discussed! Some questions are addressed in full, but some are deliberately left unanswered to help create story ideas for future games and even new units.

Could this approach help you and your new project? If it does then we'd love to hear from you and the story your telling.

We are also collecting ideas for a future episode all about TERRAIN! Check out our recent Tweet here to make suggestions!

11 May 2024Episode 100 - Codex Chaos Space Marines Review01:02:08

Welcome to the Ashes of the Imperium!

In this centennial episode, Dan and Max take to the skies and shadows with an in-depth analysis of the new Chaos Space Marines Codex. Celebrating their 100th episode, the duo delves into the darkness of the 41st millennium, dissecting the eight new detachments that bring the dread legions of Chaos to life.

Max unveils his Dread Talons list, a terror from above with a swarm of Raptors and Warp Talons, while Dan shares his vision for a cultist uprising, a thematic force that blurs the lines between the heretical Astartes, hordes of Cultists and Renegade Guardsmen. They discuss the narrative potential of the new rules and the flexibility in list building from this brand new Codex.

Whether you're a veteran of the long war or a neophyte to the Chaos cause, this episode is a must-listen for anyone eager to unleash the ruinous powers upon the galaxy.

Will the points updates polish or tarnish the golden army? Dan brings a refreshing perspective, crafting a list that pairs the stoic Custodes with the silent vigil of the Sisters of Silence in the Talons of the Emperor detachment. It's a narrative-driven force that may not claim competitive crowns but promises epic tabletop tales.

10 Oct 2019Episode 35 - Review Show - Warcry vs Kill Team01:04:38

Is Warcry just Kill Team in Age of Sigmar? No! Apparently not. But also yes. Kind of.

Join Dan and Steve as they compare the new skirmish boxed game from Games Workshop set in the Age of Sigmar universe to Kill Team and discuss some of the unique game mechanics.

We should point out that since recording this episode Games Workshop have confirmed that not only is the Core Set a limited run item, but also that the faction cards will be available in an upcoming book. Great news! So if your local store has a copy of the Core Set and you’re keen to get involved in some Warcry, then we say SNAP IT UP! More details here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/09/30/warcry-the-future-of-the-eightpoints/

You’ll notice that we also refer to the Space Marine Codex review episode that “hasn’t been released yet”, but we decided to release that first! Which is why we speak about our previous episode, as if it hadn’t been recorded!

05 Jul 2020Episode 50 - Review Show - Crusade Campaign System - 9th Edition 40k00:59:12

Wow! 50th episode! Just in time for the release of 9th Edition 40k. What an occasion!

Dan and Steve are very excited to talk about their thoughts on narrative gaming in the new edition and in today's episode provide an overview of the brand-new Crusade campaign system.

Dan and Steve also level themselves up by rolling on a few tables to test out the RPG-like progression system within the game, with some fairly interesting results...

This new campaign system looks like the perfect way to get people back into 40k after some time away, or perhaps play with a group of friends over the coming months.

Stay safe everyone, and #KeepCalmandCrusadeOn!
