30 Aug 2023How do I support someone going through infertility? 00:31:32

I've done 60+ episodes from the perspective of someone TTC (trying to conceive) who is on their own fertility journey and struggling with infertility. But what if you're on the other side? What if you're the one who is pregnant or has a baby and a friend of yours is dealing with infertility? How can you be sensitive to their situation and support them, while still being immersed in your new role as a parent or expectant parent? In today's episode I'm flipping the script and sharing some advice if you have people dealing with infertility in your life. And trust me, even if no one has told you, someone you know is struggling with this!

25 May 2022How do I involve my partner in the TTC process? 00:31:15

So often it feels like only one partner (usually the one who will carry the baby) is the only one involved in TTC (trying to conceive). They're the one doing the research, tracking ovulation, taking their BBT, tracking CM, patiently getting through the TWW, waiting for signs and symptoms, etc. And while the conception and pregnancy process may only happen in one body, it's both partners who are building a family. On today's episode I'm talking about how we can share the TTC journey with our partners and get them more involved. Because it's not enough to just show up in the bedroom!

21 Sep 2022What is my male partner's role in fertility and TTC?00:35:35

We talk a lot on this podcast about fertility, infertility, conception, ovulation and all that, but almost always from a female biological perspective. But what about the other partner? On today's episode, we're diving into how male partners (or whoever is providing the sp3rm) can get more involved in the TTC (trying to conceive) process and exactly what physical and emotional role they play in fertility. TLDR: we're talking about the swimmers!

19 Jul 2023How do I handle someone else’s feelings about my fertility journey? (TTC)00:30:51

It's one thing to have your own emotions about your fertility journey when you're TTC (trying to conceive), but how do you handle someone else's? Whether it's a partner, friend or family member, it can be difficult to let someone know you're not pregnant (again!) or making a choice about your family planning that they don't agree with. Is there anything we can do to remove this burden?

23 Oct 2024What happens during an anatomy scan?00:43:05

Before I jump into the anatomy scan experience (also known as the detailed ultrasound, mid-pregnancy ultrasound or anomaly scan), I share some listener feedback and rant way too long about boundaries in friendship and offering support to those who are struggling.

(If the rant isn't for you, feel free to skip to about the 22 minute mark to get to the anatomy scan stuff. Sorry!)

Once I (finally) get onto the scan, I talk about my experience doing the scan twice, what you need to know beforehand, tips to prep and what to ask your care providers.

24 Jul 2024What early pregnancy symptoms have I experienced? 00:37:27

If you've spent any amount of time TTC-ing or in the fertility game, you're likely familiar with early pregnancy symptoms. You've probably spent a lot of time in the mirror examining if your boobs got any bigger or wondering if that twinge was a cramp or something else.

I spent years doing that and now that I'm pregnant (eek!), I thought it'd be fun to go through a list of common early pregnancy symptoms and see which ones I actually experienced. Find out if constipation, spotting and acne really happen, plus what the deal is with morning sickness!

16 Feb 2022How many kids do I actually want?00:32:30

Welcome to this week's episode of Any Questions? Today we're tackling the big question: How many kids do I want? We're looking at the stats of how many kids families have on average, what the data says about what the "right" number is, and seven factors to consider when deciding how many children you want to have. Plus, I share what decision my partner and I have made and why we think it's the right one for us!

Even if you're not TTC or pregnant yet, if you think you want to become a parent in the future, it's a good idea to consider your ideal number now (knowing it may change along the way!).

16 Oct 2024Are we having a boy or a girl? (Gender disappointment & preferences)00:42:10

On this week's episode, we're having some fun and reacting to popular baby names. What were the most common names in 2021? What names are trendy in 2022? And what exactly is an "aesthetic baby name" anyway? Sure, I'm not pregnant (yet!) but it's fun to dream and think about what we may name a baby one day. I hope these names inspire you and help you dream about the future too!

02 Aug 2023What are the hardest parts about having a baby? 13 tough topics to discuss with your partner (part 1)00:40:09

Whether you're a new parent, pregnant or TTC (trying to conceive) I think anytime is a good time to start thinking through these tough topics and discussing them with the person(s) you're growing your family with!

23 Mar 2022Why does no one talk about TTC? 00:25:49

So many couples go through the TTC (trying to conceive) journey in secret. I totally get wanting to keep things secret so you can surprise your loved ones and avoid unnecessary pressure or opinions. But why, as a society, are we making TTC so mysterious? Does this add to the shame and judgment people (usually women) feel when they think they aren't getting pregnant as fast as they should be? I don't have the answers, but I hope you'll join me as I explore this question and more on today's episode of this conception and pregnancy podcast.

I mentioned "plus size pregnancy" in the show and wanted to share some Instagram accounts I've been following that have been helpful. Even if you aren't plus size, I think it's great to see more diversity in pregnancy media, so check these out!

12 Apr 2023When is the best time to announce a pregnancy? 00:39:48

When is the best time to announce a pregnancy? Old logic says you have to wait until you're 12 weeks pregnant. But why? Or should you wait until you're out of the first trimester or until you're showing? Or why wait at all? Can't you just livestream taking your pregnancy test during the TWW? In this episode I go through the commons answers for when you should announce that you're expecting, the pros and cons of each, what we're planning to do, and why only you can decide on the right answer!

14 Feb 2024How do I find certainty in my TTC journey? 00:20:31

One of the biggest certainties when it comes to TTC (trying to conceive) and any fertility journey is that nothing is certain! The whole thing is a roller coaster and constantly trying to deal with an uncertain future. As someone who loves to plan ahead, this has been one of my biggest struggles.

So today on the pregnancy podcast I'm talking through how I deal with the uncertainty of TTC, little things I've done to find some certainty in my life, and our big (but very tentative) plans for 2025!

15 Jan 2025Does pregnancy anxiety ever end?00:33:27

They tell you that you get to breathe a big sigh of relief once you make it past 12 weeks of pregnancy, but I'm calling BS! It seems like there's always something new to worry about in pregnancy and the uncertainty never ends.

In this episode, I'm reflecting on what it's been like to deal with pregnancy anxiety, how it's impacted my pregnancy, how I try to deal with it, and why I'm pretty sure this pregnancy anxiety is just going to transform into parenting anxiety once our baby gets here!

07 Sep 2022How do I take parental leave if I'm self-employed?00:48:29

Slightly longer episode this week to dive into a pretty meaty topic: How do you take parental leave (aka maternity leave) when you're self-employed? In this episode I'm talking through the finances and how to save up and self-fund time off with your baby, the timing and how to map out your timeline, and the actual work that you want to be doing before, during and after your parental leave. If you're self-employed, run your own company, work as a contractor or freelancer, or even have a side hustle, this episode is for you!

05 Jan 2022What is this pregnancy podcast all about? 00:09:52

Welcome to the very first episode of Any Questions? A Podcast About Conception, Pregnancy and Realistic Motherhood. Thanks for joining me on this journey! On the first episode of the podcast, I'm sharing who I am, who I'm not and why I decided to create a podcast. I didn't see myself represented in mainstream TTC, pregnancy or parenthood media and I wanted to change that by adding my voice and sharing my journey.

15 Mar 2023Why do I keep expecting my pregnancy test to be negative?00:38:45

Anyone who has been through a TWW (two week wait) in the throws of TTC (trying to conceive) knows how emotional and anxiety-inducing it is to take a pregnancy test. But why do we keep thinking they'll be negative if we want them to be positive? Why do we get our hopes up every time? How do we stop reading into every symptom? And what is actually the best way to take a pregnancy test and not feel crushed each time?

15 Feb 2023How much does timing matter when TTC? 00:26:49

This week we're tackling: How much does timing matter when you're trying to conceive? While most of us know there are only a few days each cycle when you can conceive, what happens if your days change each cycle or you don't know your days (thanks PCOS!)? What happens if you're not available or don't have the drive or desire during those days? And how do you get over the guilt and shame of missing the right time? Plus, when should you start trying for a baby and when is it time to get some help?

06 Jul 2022How do I navigate an interracial marriage and raising a mixed race baby? 00:38:04

I'm super excited to dive into this week's topic all about the things interracial couples have to consider when TTC, getting pregnant and raising a mixed race baby. Of course, a lot of these factors apply to same-race couples as well. Listen in as I discuss how issues like language, where to live and what holidays to celebrate impact lives for mixed race couples based on my experience both as a mixed race person and being in an interracial marriage!

As I say at the top of the episode, I'm only able to speak from my own perspective and lived experience as a Chinese/white cis, hetero woman living in Canada. I have many privileges and would never say my experience is universal.

28 Feb 2024How do you process other people’s reactions to your fertility/TTC journey?00:37:53

It's one thing to process your own reactions to TTC. But how do you handle it when the people in your life don't react the way you want them to or thought they would?

While many individuals and couples decide to keep their TTC journey and fertility struggles to themselves, many more decide to share the news with some close loved ones (or even share their journey publicly). But that opens you up to reactions, opinions and the constant pressure to provide updates.

In today's episode, I'm going over the three options for sharing your fertility journey and my advice for how to deal with other people's reactions.

22 Jan 2025What’s our postpartum plan? (+ Setting boundaries with our parents!)00:43:58

Everyone talks about preparing for labour and delivery, but what about postpartum? Turns out, there's lots to think about when it comes to making your postpartum plans!

In this episode I cover everything my husband and I are planning for the postpartum period - from dog care and feeding ourselves to how we want to share our baby news and our rules for visitors.

We've also shared some of this plan (aka our postpartum rules) with our parents to set some boundaries and hopefully get ahead of any issues. Wish us luck!

18 Sep 2024Should we do prenatal genetic testing?00:39:44

Prenatal genetic testing (or, more accurately, prenatal genetic screening) is a controversial issue for some parents and a big decision for all pregnant people.

After sharing a bit of a pregnancy update (2nd trimester, maybe not as fun as it should be!), I go into the different testing options available (like the SIPS, NIPT and NT), how we decided on the right tests for us, how you can make your decision and the roller coaster we've had with testing so far.

PS: I mention a few times that I'm going to look into the nuchal translucency ultrasound. Unfortunately, after doing a bit more research after I recorded, it turns out you have to be between ~10-13 weeks pregnant for this test and I'm past that.

But most TTC, fertility and pregnancy journeys involve at least the occasional blood draw. So how have I handled the medical tests and procedures I've been through so far and what are my strategies for dealing with the medical side of pregnancy coming up? Tune in to find out!

I'm also sharing some tips for advocating for yourself, finding fat positive pregnancy resources, and figuring out the balance between medical and holistic philosophies.

When everyone around you is getting pregnant or having babies, it can feel like you are falling behind. The TTC (trying to conceive) journey can be a lot longer and harder than most of us expect! If you feel like you're getting left behind while everyone moves on with their life, know that you are not alone. 01 Jan 2025How do I handle gestational diabetes?00:51:20

I explain what it is, my experience of getting diagnosed and working with a diabetes clinic, and how all of this is feeling like some diet culture BS that is really not good for my mental health!

It feels like pregnancy and motherhood is all around when you're TTC (trying to conceive), and it can be hard to not feel like you're falling behind and frustrated that your own fertility journey is taking so long. 26 Feb 2025What last minute baby prep did we do? 00:43:05

In the final weeks/months of pregnancy leading up to baby's arrival, what did we do to prepare ourselves and our home? Did we prioritize the right tasks and is it ever possible to feel fully ready for a newborn?

TW: chemical pregnancy, miscarriage, pregnancy loss

In today's episode we're chatting about chemical pregnancies, inspired by a listener episode suggestion. What is a chemical pregnancy? Is it actually a miscarriage or something else? If they're so common, why do we rarely hear about them? And why does it feel like we can't be sad about them? I'm unpacking all that and more - tune in!

14 Aug 2024How did we tell our friends and family we’re pregnant?00:47:34

I've done a few episodes on the best ways to announce a pregnancy and the best time to announce...but that was all theoretical. What actually happened when it was our turn to share our pregnancy news?

In this episode, I'm sharing how we told our closest loved ones our news, if my expectations matched up with reality, some of the odd feelings I was left with, and my tips for when you get to make your announcement!

21 Dec 2022Looking back on my first year of TTC: How'd it go?00:35:06

And just like that, 2022 is over which means so is my first year of TTC (trying to conceive). If you had told me in Dec 2021 that by Dec 2022 I would still be trying to conceive and not have a baby - let alone not even be pregnant - I never would have believed you! But this past year has been a big process of learning what goes into fertility and conception, testing, getting diagnosed with PCOS and figuring out that TTC really might be a longer journey than we had hoped!

Tune in to listen how my first year of TTC went and what we're thinking heading into year 2. And wishing you all the best for your journey, for happy holidays and for a wonderful start to 2023!

Thank you so much for listening to Any Questions this year and for all of your support. I started this podcast as an outlet for myself and have been amazed by the small but mighty community of listeners. I so appreciate you!

04 Dec 2024How involved should my parents be in my pregnancy?00:57:15

In this week's episode we're talking parents, in-laws and pregnancy.

How have my parents/in-laws been there for me, or not been there for me, throughout my pregnancy? Do I wish they were more or less involved? And what can I do to improve any red flags before they turn into grandparents pushing boundaries?

Listen in as I thank the community, talk about my experiences so far, and rant probably a little too long about my mom and MIL (I love them, I swear!).

Today we're tackling the big question: How do you know when you're ready to have kids? How do you know if you even want them or will ever be ready? 02 Nov 2022When should I take a pregnancy test? (TTC& TWW)00:29:51

If you're in the middle of the TWW (two week wait), you're probably wondering: When can I take a pregnancy test? Sure, you can take one anytime when you're TTC (trying to conceive) but when should you actually take one? You might not be able to find out if you're pregnant until 14 DPO (days past ovulation) but is it worth it to test early? Should you wait and test late to get a definite answer? Or should you test based on pregnancy symptoms you're experiencing? There might not be a right answer for everyone but in today's episode, I'm going through the pros and cons of pregnancy testing!

If it's getting towards the end of your TWW (two week wait) and you see a little spotting or light bleeding, you might be freaking out. As if pregnancy symptoms weren't hard enough to decipher, we now have actual bleeding that may or may not mean we're pregnant. 06 Apr 2022What if we can’t have kids?00:22:12

In today's episode, I break the taboo of talking about this scary side of conception, discuss the different options, and try to find some happiness at the end of the journey no matter what happens.

05 Jun 2024Should we move to live closer to family once we have a kid?00:35:11

A lot of people decide that once they have a kid it's time to move out to the suburbs, get a stable job and buy a minivan. While I've never subscribed to that line of thinking, I am now considering the idea of moving back to my hometown to be closer to family if/when we have a child... in fact, my husband suggested it!

Would you consider moving to be closer to friends/family so your kid has playmates and you have built in babysitters? I'm discussing the pros and cons in today's episode, as well as things to consider before making a big move.

Plus a little TTC update on my latest IUI round, and some listener feedback!

05 Jul 2023Why do I believe I can’t get pregnant? (+ 6 fertility/pregnancy mantras!)00:26:55

In today's episode of Any Questions we're tackling a limiting belief many of us on TTC journeys have: We believe we can't get pregnant! Why do we have this belief and how is it serving us? Plus I'm sharing six fertility and pregnancy mantras I use to try and trick myself into positive thinking, even though I'm not convinced mantras really work.
