Defy 的例句是：

大家多少聽過電動車大廠特斯拉吧？因為武漢肺炎的關係，美國加州祭出許多限制措施，而特斯拉也受到影響，必須停工。不過特斯拉執行長馬斯克不打算聽話，他要違抗衛生官員的命令、直接恢復生產。這個違抗就是 defy。

第二個單字是 adopt out、adopt out（慢） 送養

Animal shelters have adopted out more dogs during the pandemic.

Adopt 是領養，比較多人知道這個單字，而從收容所的角度來說，送養動物出去，則是 adopt out。有沒有很直觀～領養是 adopt，送養是 adopt out，不同方向。

武漢肺炎爆發之後，歐美許多人跑去收容所領養動物，送養速度大提升，這是為什麼呢？歐美因為武漢肺炎大規模封城嘛，然後封城規定下，「遛狗」是可以出門的，所以有些人就跑去領養小狗，才可以出門透透氣。希望這些人要對領養的寵物負責到底阿！！！收容所「送養」動物，就是 adopt out。

第三個單字是 demolish、demolish（慢）拆除

奈及利亞有兩間旅館被政府強制拆除！政府聲稱，這兩間旅館在封城期間偷偷營業，違反規定，所以要拆，但旅館業者說，他們沒有營業，反倒是有官員上門收「保護費」，但他們拒絕了，才被報復懲罰。拆除房子就是 demolish。

London communities use online raffles to support small businesses during the lockdown.
很多國家都封城，小本生意的店家都沒辦法賺錢過活，非常難熬。不過倫敦有些社區想到好方法！他們設立線上抽獎彩券，彩券的獎品就是這些店家的服務，比如說剪髮服務、餐點什麼的，讓這些小店家可以先有一些收入，撐過這場疫情。這個抽獎彩券就是 raffle。

最後一個單字是 emission、emission（慢）、排放

武漢肺炎是個大災難，這是無庸置疑的，不過它卻帶來一個好處：空氣變乾淨了！大家為了防疫，減少出門跟飛行，所以今年的碳排放預計會減少百分之八喔！算是很不錯的數字～這個排放就是 emission。

許多國家因為肺炎封城，人民無法討生活，政府壓力山大，所以歐洲各國已經在一步一步解除封城。連歐盟也開始建議會員國，快讓大家出門旅遊！為什麼呢？因為夏天到了，是歐洲的旅遊旺季，旺季若不能賺觀光財，旅遊業就大悲劇了。旅遊業深受打擊，歐盟設法挽救，這個挽救就是 salvage。

阿富汗的婦幼醫院遭恐怖攻擊，目前至少 24 人死亡，其中兩個是剛出生的嬰兒，令人髮指。這個恐怖攻擊，竟然針對手無寸鐵的媽媽跟嬰兒，完全漠視平民的生命！我們這個漠視，就是 disregard。

第四個單字是 dementia 失智症，例句是：We have to keep dementia patients and their families connected during the pandemic.



因為武漢肺炎，日本禁止探病。失智症患者住在醫院或療養院裡，這些患者長時間看不到家人，會非常焦慮，因為他們不懂，世界怎麼變成這樣。還好目前有個解決方法，就是利用網路視訊，讓失智症患者跟家人聊聊天、安心一些。dementia 就是失智症。

最後一個單字是 dispatch 派遣
 Doctors Without Borders has dispatched a team to the Navajo Nation.

美國內部有一個原住民保留地，它是一個自治區，叫做 Navajo Nation。Navajo Nation 內很多人感染武漢肺炎。更糟糕的是，這裡很偏僻、醫療資源稀少、三分之一的人沒有自來水可以用。幸好，無國界醫生組織看到這個問題，已經派遣一組醫療人員，支援 Navajo Nation。這個派遣，就是 dispatch。想要更了解 Navajo Nation 還有無國界醫生，一樣可以到內文最下面，看我寫的小註解喔！

註1：阿富汗的戰亂，是從美國 911 事件開始。阿富汗的恐怖組織塔利班，對紐約發動 911 攻擊，美國一怒之下、發動戰爭，但塔利班難以消滅，到現在還存在。

註2：美國的原住民是印第安人，他們的命運就跟多數原住民一樣哀傷，他們被驅趕、壓迫、剝奪。印地安人當初其實有跟美國政府簽協議，協議內說，如果要奪走印地安人的土地，把他們趕到 Navajo Nation 裡的話，那美國政府要提供他們教育、醫療、基礎設施等資源。當時美國政府答應了，結果美國並未遵守承諾，資源有一搭沒一搭的，害得 Navajo Nation 許多居民都很窮，生活品質也不好。不過 Navajo Nation 非常堅強喔，他們正在用自己的方式，獨立自主、勇敢向前。想了解細節，可以點擊上面 CBS News 的連結喔！

註3：無國界醫生組織做什麼呢？他們派遣醫療小組，到衝突戰亂的地方，提供當地人治療。這些醫師與護理師深入危險地區，幫人醫病，真的是太偉大了。

第三個單字是：outrage、o-u-t-r-a-g-e、outrage，震怒，例句是：

美國有一位黑人，出門慢跑，結果被白人槍殺。開槍的是一對白人父子，他們殺死這位黑人之後，竟然逍遙法外兩個半月，超級離譜。後來，當時槍殺的影片流出，把美國人民激怒，之後白人父子才被逮捕起來。殺人嫌疑犯，竟然可以趴趴造兩個多月！當地司法體系很有問題！這般「極為憤怒」的情緒，就是 outrage。

台灣有阿中部長，一路帶著我們防疫，哪巴西呢？巴西一個月內已經換了兩任衛生部長。怎麼會這樣？問題出在巴西總統身上。巴西總統說，武漢肺炎只是小流感啦，免緊張。第一位衛生部長說，這是很嚴重的病耶，總統你錯了，結果巴西總統就把他 fire 掉。第二位衛生部長上任後，總統繼續黑白來，結果第二位部長自己請辭了。第二位部長走人之前，說自己已經盡力了，這個盡力，就是 give sth your best shot.

最後一個單字是 car-free、車子的 car、一個橫線、然後 f-r-e-e、free、car-free、無車的，例句是：

歐洲許多大城市，打算增加「無車街道」，在這些街道上，只可以走路跟騎腳踏車。為什麼要打造更多「無車街道」啊？這是為了「防疫」。你想想，通勤時，車子裡啊、巴士裡或是地下鐵，有多擁擠啊、空氣也不流通。相較之下，走路跟騎腳踏車，是不是好多了呢？這種無車的地方，就可以用 car-free 這個形容詞。

Mental health problems
