28 Oct 2022 | White Ladies in Crisis: Double Jeopardy (1999) | 00:41:02
Gena, Jenn and Joe are back to talk about a peak 90s comfort watch: Double Jeopardy (1999). Joe loves this The Fugitive remake/sequel, which finds Judd's Libby tracking down her shitty husband who framed her for murder. Up for discussion: sleazy Bruce Greenwood (again!), how white women negotiate the system, the film's oh-so-90s treatment of WOC and sex work, and whether Tommy Lee Jones would be gender-flipped in a contemporary remake. 18 Oct 2022 | Bodies of Horror: Episode 35 - Day of the Triffids (1962) | 00:39:22
For this episode, Nichole is digging into some 50/60s style sci-fi horror with 1962’s Day of the Triffids (just for clarification: it was released in U.S. in 1963 if you find either year referenced). Things get weird when widespread blindness meets the invasion of a carnivorous plant called Triffids. Want to recommend a film to be covered, or just reach out and say hello? Of course you do! 25 Oct 2022 | Good For Her Horror: Revenge (2018) | 01:02:11
Jordan Gustafson and Brooke Solomon of The Queer Quadrant take over Good For Her Horror to discuss Coralie Fargeat's Revenge, a perfectly sequenced rape/revenge film that features our protagonist Jen rising like a phoenix from the ashes (thank goodness for that cool beer logo). This underseen film is surprisingly commercial for an indie, but it totally rocks. 11 Nov 2022 | White Ladies in Crisis: Pearl (2022) | 00:42:26
Gena, Jenn and Joe are back to talk about a girl with plenty of star potential: Pearl (2022). We're digging into Ti West and Mia Goth's second effort, which Gena thinks is one of the best horror prequels! Up for discussion: Pearl's relationship with her mother, how the film succeeds by keeping the focus on its lead, our hopes for Maxxxine and Jenn's misguided belief that the Projectionist ever planned to take Pearl to Paris. Nichole Goble of Bodies of Horror is here to wrap up our Good For Her Horror series, discussing David Slade's 2005 film Hard Candy. Topics for discussion: the need for vigilantism, Jeff's inability to take responsibility, the two scenes that take place outside of the enclosed world of the film and reading Hailey and Jeff at the ending. 17 Nov 2022 | Such Sights To Show - A Hellraiser Podcast: Episode 4 - The Toll | 00:40:21
Back by listener demand, Such Sights to Show returns for Part 4 as Bryan and Joe check out Mark Allan Miller's 2018 Hellraiser novella The Toll. While based on a story by Clive Barker, this concurrent narrative to The Scarlet Gospels is frustrating: the prose isn't on par with Barker, new characters are 1-dimensional and the plot barely gets going before it's over. There are intriguing elements, but this needed to be a short story or a full length book. Also: where's Julia?! Wanna connect with the show? 01 Dec 2022 | White Ladies in Crisis: Sleeping With The Enemy (1991) | 00:50:25
Gena, Jenn and Joe travel back to the early 90s to discuss the extremely over the top 'woman in peril' film, Sleeping with the Enemy (1991). Starring Julia Roberts and Patrick Bergin's exquisite moustache, this domestic abuse thriller is a nostalgic rewatch that holds up. Up for discussion: glass house porn, dress-up dates, Ben's villain behavior, comparisons to The Invisible Man and Gone Girl, unintentional camp hilarity, and one hell of a cathartic climax. She found a lot of moments that resonated with her and felt like it was worth having a chat about the titular Club members, their journeys as terminally ill patients, and hospice. 13 Dec 2022 | Bodies of Horror: Episode 38 - Misery (1990) | 00:42:28
Nichole is diving back into Stephen King this episode and talking about Rob Reiner’s 1990 Misery – specifically the character of Paul Sheldon and his experiences in relying on a stranger to live and the aftermath of torture. She don’t go too heavy into the background of King’s books but below are a few phenomenal resources to itch that particular scratch. Additional reading: > Slash Film. 15 Dec 2022 | Such Sights To Show: Episode 5 - Books of Blood Vol. 1 | 00:57:14
Bryan and Joe return to expand the scope of the show beyond Hellraiser and into all things Clive Barker. First up: Volume 1 of Barker's short story collection, Books of Blood. We're talking prose (as usual), but also the range and focus of the six stories. Plus: which ones we want to see adapted (Pig Blood Blues!) and which can only exist in our imagination (In The Hills, The Cities). Wanna connect with the show? 22 Dec 2022 | White Ladies in Crisis: It's Christmas, Carol! (2012) | 00:40:33
Gena, Jenn and Joe are dipping their toes into Hallmark Christmas movie territory for an entirely different kind of white woman losing her marbles. In this take on A Christmas Carol, Carol (Emmanuelle Vaugier) is a workaholic bitch boss who needs to learn a Christmas lesson by none other than Carrie Fisher! Up for discussion: boring love interest Ben, Scrooged comparisons, the refreshing lack of conservative values, (cat) falls, and why you need to visit your mom at Christmas! On the heels of Books of Blood Vol. 1, Bryan and Joe return to unpack short story "The Midnight Meat Train" and its 2008/2009 film adaptation by Ryuhei Kitamura. Up for discussion: the use of the Fathers in both stories, changing Mahogany into a Vinnie Jones juggernaut, whether Maya (Leslie Bibb) is a victim of fridging, and the 3D & gory visuals. Dial up your modem and log onto Pizza.Net because Jenn, Gena and Joe are talking about the 1995 Sandra Bullock vehicle, The Net! This technophobia thriller is *very* of the time, but also oddly prescient about how much of ourselves we reveal online. Plus: Jenn falls for another bad guy, Dennis Miller in the movies, avoiding boats and carnivals and the unusual AIDS elements in the film. Moral of the film? 10 Jan 2023 | Bodies of Horror: Episode 40 - Rear Window (1954 / 1998) | 01:32:43
In this episode, Nichole is tackling a heavy hitter: 1954’s Rear Window, directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly, along with conversation about 1998 made-for-TV remake starring Christopher Reeves. This was a big one and Nichole couldn’t do it alone, so she brought in her friend Kevin - a fairly intense Hitchcock film fan and all-around phenomenal human being. Additional reading:

06 Feb 2023 | Hey YOU: Season 1 Overview | 00:25:42
In the debut episode of Hey YOU, Sharai and Joe discuss their introduction to the show, as well as thoughts on Caroline Kepnes' book and how it compares to S01 of the series. Sharai and Joe are back to dig into the second season of Netflix's YOU, which finds Penn Badgley's Joe fall for Love Quinn (a sublime Victoria Pedretti) in a season that satirizes Hollywood and Los Angeles. Plus: why is Jake Sully playing straight? Why won't the show let Joe be a murderer? Baby Jenna Ortega's storyline, and comparisons to Caroline Kepnes' second (inferior) book. 19 Jan 2023 | Such Sights To Show: Episode 7 - Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell (2016) | 00:42:55
Bryan and Joe venture back in time for Paul Kane's Sherlock Holmes and the Servants of Hell, a Sherlock Holmes and Hellraiser cross-over novel that's surprisingly fun! What impresses us the most isn't how knowledgeable Kane is, but how integrated his homages to the franchise are in the central plot. This is a proper story that utilizes both mythologies in a smart, satisfying way! Plus: surprises from Hell on Earth and Bloodline, why Sherlock vs the Order of the Gash makes sense, new Cenobites, IP concerns, and why we wish the Epilogue wasn't included. 02 Feb 2023 | White Ladies in Crisis: Fear (1996) | 00:47:26
Get ready for a rollercoaster because we're talking "beware of the bad boyfriend" (and maybe the bad dad?) Erotic Thriller, Fear (1996). This is melodrama, but there's a lot of interesting things going on, like the Betty vs Veronica virginity issues between Nicole and Margo, Steve's desire to fuck teen girls, different approaches to parenting, and why Toby is the film's secret weapon. Sharai and Joe are back to unpack the season four premiere of YOU. 10 Feb 2023 | Hey YOU: S04E02 'Portrait of the Artist' (2023) | 00:27:29
Brace YOUrselves because we're firmly in a murder mystery (much to Joe's chagrin) and everyone is a suspect! Joe and Sharai continue to applaud the writer's room for having more fun, being more meta and zigging when we thought they would zag. Plus: Water sports kinks, cat and mouse bullshit, and is Kate a different kind of obsession? 25 Jan 2023 | Bodies of Horror: Episode 41 - House of Wax (1953) | 00:38:52
The 1953 film House of Wax doesn’t come up much when we talk about the disabled villain trope…but should it? In this episode, Nichole explore that question and talk briefly about how the 2005 remake tries to subvert the trope a but (to messy results). Additional Reading:

08 Feb 2023 | Hey YOU: Season 3 Overview | 00:35:20
Joe and Love hit the suburbs as Sharai and Joe unpack the slightly messy third season of Netflix's YOU. After a promising four episode start, the wheels fall off the back half of the season, including YOU's reluctance to explore Joe's queer side and the dicey representation of polyamory. With the interrogation plot point a bust, Joe and London's elite escape to the country in an episode that Joe and Sharai aren't sure about. It's the end of Part One of YOU's fourth season, and Sharai and Joe are relatively pleased! While the killer is predictable (and we have questions about what the back half of the season will consist of), overall S04 has been more consistent, surprising and entertaining than we hoped! Plus: why does Joe let the killer get away? Is Kate doomed to die? Will we ever learn more about Lady Phoebe? Is this the final season and, if so, how does that change what happens next?! 09 Mar 2023 | Hey YOU: S04E06 'Best of Friends' (2023) | 00:26:00
Sharai and Joe return to tackle the premiere of Netflix's YOU S04 Part 2...and we're a bit underwhelmed. This is firmly a placeholder (filler?) episode that reintroduces the characters, but there's too much Adam/Lady Phoebe drama and barely any Kate! 02 Mar 2023 | Such Sights To Show: Episode 8 - Books of Blood Vol. 2 | 00:48:55
Bryan and Joe are back to discuss Volume 2 of Clive Barker's short story collection, Books of Blood. This time we're a bit more conflicted about some of the dated elements, including the role of race in Hell's Event to the misogyny of Jacqueline Ess: Her Will and Testament to the sexual assault of The Skins of our Fathers. Still, Barker's prose is great, from the body horror of Jacqueline Ess to the playfulness of Barker-fying Edgar Allan Poe in New Murders in the Rue Morgue. For a second dip into Love Hurts, the White Ladies in Crisis crew (Jenn, Gena and Joe) revisit Lolita-inspired 90s knock-off, The Crush (1994). Starring an unhinged Alicia Silverstone as a teenage temptress and Cary Elwes at peak hotness, this film features no shortage of perplexing questions, including why an adult man would let not one, but TWO teen girls hang out in his apartment, why the screenwriter didn't change Adrian's name, and what kind of family has a carousel in their attic. Prepare to be incredibly uncomfortable because Gena, Joe, and Jenn are back to discuss Jamie Dack's extremely upsetting film, Palm Trees and Power Lines (2022). CW: grooming, sexual assault. This is rough, in part because lead actress Lily McInery is so young looking, and the child grooming is so easy to understand. Plus: fraught mother/daughter relationships, dating older men, Jonathan Tucker appreciation, and why a static long shot sex scene is so effective. It's the end of the line for YOU S04 and Joe and Sharai are divided. Despite giving us everything we wanted and hypothesized about, there's something unsatisfying about the finale. Secondly, doesn’t this feel like it’s going to be the final season? Thirdly, what happened to the Nadia we used to know? Plus: Penn Badgley takes great direction from himself, questioning how great sex with Joe can be if you avoid doing it, and talking expectations for the finale. 11 Mar 2023 | Hey YOU: S04E08 'Where Are You Going? Where Have You Been?' (2023) | 00:25:16
Well, it turns out that Joe Goldberg is “full fat, extra sugar, deep-fried fucking insane” and now we're just frustrated. In what feels like a poorly constructed twist, Joe and Sharai question the logic of making Joe mentally ill, the logistics of disappearing for days on end and constructing the box in London, as the benefits of using half the episode's runtime on Marienne's fairytale. Plus: this has got to be the final season, right? Because a "happy ending" for Joe is off the table! 16 Mar 2023 | Good For Her Horror: Bit (2019) by Out To Get You Pod | 01:38:44
In this pre-launch episode for Out To Get You Podcast, Margot Mutter and fantasy literature academic Becca/Bex Gault sink their teeth into the themes of power and cycles of abuse of Bit (2019). C/W: This episode contains discussions of rape and sexual violence, drug abuse, kidnapping, suicide, homophobia and transphobia, and other themes that may be sensitive for listeners. Caveat: This episode was recorded on January 10th, 2023, which seems like a world away for the trans people in your lives. Since that day, 44 more trans people have been murdered simply for the crime of existing. This year is already proving heartbreaking and fatal for our community. While this podcast is for entertainment, it is impossible to completely decouple ourselves from the campaigns of violence we face, in the streets we live and in the legislatures which paint us as unfit and as threats to society, as well as the resulting anguish and rage they continue to produce. 11 Apr 2023 | Sexy & Surreal: Episode 1 - Eraserhead (1977) | 00:51:55
Terry and Joe kick off a bi-weekly exploration of the filmographies of David Lynch and David Cronenberg because Terry has seen remarkably few of their respective features. First up: Lynch's Eraserhead, which took 5 years, was funded by Sissy Spacek and is a wild first film. We're talking the all-encompassing industrial score, surreal space sequences, a sperm child, practical FX, and Lynch's (maybe?) real life daddy issues reflected on screen. Bryan and Joe are back to discuss Volume 3 of Clive Barker's short story collection, Books of Blood. We're faced with more dated elements (race/fatphobia), though we're wondering if part of this is simply too much Barker in a short period of time? After a dive into some older fare, Nichole changes things up and talk about a recent film – 2022’s Pearl. This episode tackles a bit about the 1918 flu pandemic, caring for a loved one with a disability or illness during a pandemic, and the multitude of mental health issues this film touches on. This was an episode where it seemed fitting to chat about mental health and had to call in support from one of my favorite people: Mike Snoonian, the loveliest person and therapist behind the boards at The Pod and The Pendulum and PsychoAnalysis: A Horror Therapy podcasts. Any time I get to chat with Mike is time I treasure and he brought the brilliance and humor to this conversation. Additional Engagement

Terry and Joe continue their bi-weekly exploration of Lynch and Cronenberg, turning to the latter's infamous (and controversial) first film, Shivers (1975). Real talk: we don't hate the movie! It's not a good adaptation, but as a stock creature feature, it's fine. For this episode, Nichole goes back to M. Night Shyamalan's filmography to talk about 2004’s The Village. Does Ivy’s disability matter beyond selling one of the film’s twists? 22 Jun 2023 | Such Sights To Show: Episode 12 - Hellbound Hearts (2009) | 00:56:07
Bryan and Joe check out Hellbound Hearts, an anthology of 23 Hellraiser stories edited by Paul Kane and Marie O'Regan. Some are good, some...are not! We're talking about our faves (a European Cenobite coming of age! A slut shamed nun! A puzzle solving vigilante!), as well as the mixed ones that intrigued (Prey comparisons? Stockholm Syndrome? Gay installation art?). It's a mixed bag, but we had a lot of fun with this collection. Wanna connect with the show? 20 Jul 2023 | Such Sights To Show: Episode 13 - The Last Illusion / Lord of Illusions | 00:53:47
Bryan and Joe return to Clive Barker territory to discuss a magical (or illusory?) double bill. First up is 'The Last Illusion', the 1985 short from Books of Blood Vol. 6 that introduces private investigator Harry D'Amour. Bryan likes the creatures, particularly Valentin, though Joe finds the plot meandering. Next up is Barker's 1995 film adaptation Lord of Illusions, which is both ambitious and feels like Barker succumbing to Hollywood demands. Joe is nostalgic for its messy queerness and prefers the Director's Cut, while Bryan finds it busy and notes that characters lack agency. Wanna connect with the show? We're fascinated by star Cassandra Naud's performance and how the film uses her natural birthmark in a tale about performative online personalities where no one is who they pretend to be. Terry and Joe are wrapping up the first round of Sexy & Surreal with David Cronenberg's commercial effort Scanners (1981). Obviously the exploding head is iconic, but the rest of the film is nearly as messy. An on-the-fly script and paper thing characters hint at more intriguing ideas than what is actually seen on screen. For this episode, Bodies of Horror revisits two topics that we’ve touched on here before: Hitchcock (Rear Window) and complex roles of mothers. Nichole is joined by the incredible Rebecca McCallum, Assistant Editor of Ghouls Magazine, Senior Contributor at the Moving Pictures Film Club, and all around expert and guide of all things Hitch. We discuss, in detail, the worlds of 1960’s Psycho and 1963’s The Birds and the mothers that inhabit them, how the depiction of these figures connect to how we’ve talked about mothers in the previous Hitch episode, and how they speak to a dynamic familiar to many of us with disabilities. 11 Aug 2023 | Nightmares & Dreamscapes: King on Screen (2023) | 00:29:07
After a long hiatus, Nightmares & Dreamscapes returns so that Terry and Joe can discuss Daphné Baiwir's King on Screen, which focuses on Stephen King adaptations. Alas there are some pretty significant issues with the doc: 1) *it's all white men* (where are Mary Lambert and Kimberly Pierce?!) 2) Most of the comments are complimentary and focused on King, not necessarily the adaptation process 3) The only time a "bad" adaptation is addressed is Kubrick's The Shining, so the dead director can't even defend himself.
