For our first episode of 2023 we are excited to be joined by CMU freshman Luciana Alvarado Reid who also just so happens to be the first Olympic gymnast ever for Costa Rica! She turned a lot of heads in Tokyo with her Black Lives Matter tribute at the end of her floor routine and is already looking to be a big asset to the CMU team this season.

This week we are looking back on the historic season that Cal Gymnastics had and we are honored to be joined by the incredible eMjae Frazier. eMjae just finished her sophomore season with the Bears but she’s already primed for the history books. As a freshman she scored the program’s first and only perfect 10 on floor and broke the all-around program record. She decided to one up herself for her sophomore season, adding two more 10s to her collection (one on beam and another on floor), as well as breaking the all-around program record that she set the previous year, twice! eMjae has been an instrumental piece to the success of the Cal team. Aside from the very first week of the season, the bears were ranked in the top three nationally, seven of those weeks they were ranked No. 2. The Bears finished with their highest NQS in program history with a 198.180, won the regular season Pac-12 championship title outright with a perfect 7-0 record for the first time in history, and of course, capped off the season finishing second at the NCAA Championships; allowing them to bring a trophy back to the Bay Area for the first time ever.

Alana has a great story of not giving up despite not receiving much interest from college coaches to become a key contributor for EMU on vault and floor. After qualifying to NCAA Regionals on vault last season and notching a new career high of a near-perfect 9.925 - Alana has earned a scholarship for her senior season!

This week we are excited to bring you an interview with a bronze medalist from the Tokyo Olympics and one of the Team GB greats, Alice Kinsella! Alice is a World team silver medalist from 2022 and a 7x European medalist including a gold medalist on beam from 2019 and a team gold medalist from 2023. Leading up to Paris, Great Britain faced a lot of adversity ahead of the Games with several of their top athletes going down with season ending injuries. However, they rose to the occasion and proved to the world that they were still in the hunt for a medal with Alice helping to lead the team to a 4th place finish!  We chat with Alice about how her experience in Paris differed from Tokyo, why she didn’t compete the Amanar, whether or not she’s interested in making a run for LA 2028 and more!

Today we are excited to be joined by Csenge Bácskay who will be competing very soon at the Paris Olympics for her home country of Hungary, but she’s also a collegiate gymnast in the United States which made for a really interesting recruiting perspective. She spent the first two years of her career at the University of Nebraska and will be transferring to the University of Georgia for her final two years. The defending national champion Oklahoma Sooners busted every NCAA bracket in the country when they did not advance to the 2024 NCAA Finals. This calls for an emergency episode!

This week we are joined by one of Oklahoma’s standout freshmen, Addison Fatta who is a 3-time U.S. National Team Member and the 2022 USAG SportsPerson of the Year. As a Sooner, Fatta has competed all-around in all but two meets, has career highs of 9.875 VT, 9.925 on bars, 9.9 on beam and 9.925 on floor, and is one of our favorite athletes to watch. We are excited to be joined by Cal co-head coach Liz Crandall-Howell who is going into her 11th season with the Bears and 6th season as a co-head coach along with her husband Justin. Last season Cal won a share of the Pac-12 title for the second year in a row, won Regionals for the first time ever, and the Cal coaching staff swept the WCGA national coaching awards. Lucie was one of the first gymnasts in the class of 2024 to announce her commitment and very recently signed her national letter of intent to the University of Michigan!

Sage Kellerman is a junior at Michigan State and was a big part of the team’s historic season last year! Sage helped MSU win their first Big Ten title in program history along with bringing in some individual accolades. She scored two perfect 10’s on vault last season (becoming the first Spartan to score multiple perfect 10’s on the same event in a single season) and capped things off with WCGA Regular Season All American honors on the event. We chatted with Sage about winning the Big Ten title in front of a home crowd, the competitiveness of the Big Ten conference, her key to consistency on vault, and her goals for the upcoming season!

In case you didn’t see on social media — we were at LSU this past weekend for the gymnastics Super Bowl between Oklahoma and LSU. In this episode we talk about our trip to Baton Rouge, the incredible competition between the top two teams in the nation and then we have an interview with Michigan's sensational sophomore Kayli Boozer. 

As a freshman Kayli didn’t compete aside from a few exhibition routines but she’s a totally different athlete this season and is consistently bringing in big scores on beam and floor (with career highs of 9.95 and 9.9 respectively), and also has a beautiful vault that could enter the chat very soon. She joins us to talk about what she did in the off season to be so prepared this year, her recruiting journey and more!

This week we have an interview with Mizzou’s beam queen Helen Hu, who is a fifth year senior and three-time All-American on beam. Helen retired after the 2023 season but returned to the sport after traveling abroad for a year and hasn’t missed a beat so far this season, scoring the first perfect 10 of the 2025 season and the first perfect 10 of her career last weekend against Oklahoma. We are so excited that we got the chance to talk with Helen about that moment as well as her decision to return to the sport. Our Coaches Corner series continues this week with California co-head coach, Liz Crandall-Howell. The Cal Bears finished 2nd last season at the NCAA Championships, which was the highest finish in program history. In 2024, the team also repeated as NCAA Regional Champions and won the Pac 12 Regular Season title outright for the first time in history. Liz joins us to talk about how preseason training for the 2025 season is going, who might surprise you this season, and how the Bears have shifted their mindset to believe they can be in the conversation with anybody.

This week we are joined by Hannah Aoki, who announced in May that she had accepted a full athlete scholarship to the University of North Carolina. Hannah was a little bit of a late bloomer to college recruiting as she didn’t become a level 10 until her sophomore year of high school but she was determined and willing to do whatever it took to achieve her goal of becoming a college gymnast. After winning the all-around title in the All-Star East division at nationals this year, Hannah received the phone call she had been waiting and hoping for from UNC. Today Hannah joins us to talk about her recruiting journey and share some advice about trusting the process and not comparing your journey to others.

Today’s guest is rising Florida sophomore Anya Pilgrim, who had an incredible freshman season in 2024, winning SEC Freshman of the Week honors five times, becoming a 4-time All-American, and becoming the first freshman in the nation to score a perfect 10 last season.
