19 Jul 2019Episode 1 - We've Decided to Create a Podcast!00:12:03

So, our team at social media marketing consultancy, Social INK, decided to create a podcast as part of our monthly challenges. Yes, that's right, we started this as a challenge, to be able to showcase to people, just what's involved in creating a podcast.

This first episode is very meta. It's a podcast about a podcast. At the time of recording, our podcast had no name, so G.O.T, right?

But that didn't stop us either way. In fact, it's one of the biggest factors in everything we do, especially our challenges. The 80/20 rule dictates that 80% is turning up. Taking action, launching something new, especially before it's "perfect" is key.

Too many people are waiting to perfect their website before contacting prospects. Others are trying, for the 8th week in a row, to finalise a video before sharing it. We believe in action, and so it begins. 31 days to launch a podcast, from scratch.

Wish us luck, and be sure to subscribe to make sure you know All About Digital Marketing.

20 Jul 2019Episode 2 - Why Content Marketing is so Important to Small Businesses00:11:50

Episode 2, and we finally have a name. Welcome to the All About Digital Marketing podcast, "it does what it says on the tin". In this episode, I'm (Chris, CEO of Social INK) joined by Anna Simmonds, Head of Social Media, and Gareth Alvarez, Head of Content.

We're talking all about content marketing and why it's so important to small businesses. The potential ROI (return on investment) is huge, especially compared to many other options online right now, and the best news is, it could cost you absolutely nothing to get started.

When we talk about content marketing, people often mistake this for a buzzword, it's not. Content marketing is all the content you create for your business. Social media posts, blog articles, videos, live streams, it's all part of your content marketing.

Take a listen and let us know your thoughts. Remember to subscribe to the podcast and let us know any feedback, or if there is anything you'd like us to cover in an episode, or go into more detail on.

Thanks for listening!

21 Jul 2019Episode 3 - Strategic Social Media Marketing00:12:08

In episode 3, I'm (Chris) back with the team from Social INK and we're talking all about strategic social media marketing. You see, way too many businesses we meet, we speak to, are just, doing social media. But they don't know why and they don't know what for.

If you don't start with a strategy, with specific goals and a way to achieve those goals, how can you ever complete them?

A strategy should form the foundation for everything that you're doing on social media, and in fact, with all your digital/content marketing efforts. Creating content with a purpose, creating content with a goal in mind, and of course, tracking to see your progress.

If you're one of those businesses that are just posting for the sake of it, it's time you listen to why it's time to get a strategy in place.

We hope you like what you're hearing so far, be sure to subscribe to get all our latest content and of course, feel free to drop us a line to let us know any feedback you might have.

Thanks for listening!

22 Jul 2019Episode 4 - How To Come Up With Ideas For Your Digital Marketing00:15:02

Welcome to Episode 4 of All About Digital Marketing podcast. In this episode, we're talking about how to come up with ideas for your digital and content marketing. Now for us, these things come easy, but that's not always been the case.

It comes easy to us after years of trying, after years of doing and most importantly, years of experience. We don't always get it right the first time, and that's fine.

How you come up with ideas for your marketing is just as important, if not more important, than how you execute. Don't think we're preaching, we most definitely practice what we preach. We recorded the first-ever episode of this podcast before we even had a name.

Trying to perfect something too much becomes a form of procrastination and invariably ends up meaning you don't execute those ideas.

Hope you enjoy the episode, and please make sure you subscribe to get all the latest episodes and feel free to leave us any feedback you might have too.

23 Jul 2019Episode 5 - Gareth Talks About Creativity and One Minute Briefs00:14:59

In Episode 5, Gareth, Head of Content at Social INK, talks about creativity and especially One Minute Briefs. If you haven't heard of OMB before, it's a simple premise. Creatives from around the world get together on a daily basis to create a concept ad for a brief in just 60 seconds.

Here at Social INK, we've been involved in OMB now since March and in that time, we've had a few successful wins, including for KFC for the #ILoveYouBaconBurger brief, something we're all really proud of.

You see the creative part of your brain is like any other muscle in your body. To get stronger and faster, it needs to be trained, it needs regular work outs.

We hope you enjoy the episode, be sure to subscribe and as always, let us know any feedback you might have.

24 Jul 2019Episode 6 - Chris Talks About Why You Need A Professional Website Design00:08:59

Hey everybody, I'm Chris, CEO at Social INK and in Episode 6, I've taken over the podcast, all by myself. You see, since founding Social INK in 2008, I've lost count of the number of conversations I've had with potential clients and leads over new websites.

Worse than that though, I've also lost count of the number of conversations that end up with the potential client telling me that they have a nephew, or a friend's daughter, that's pretty nifty with websites and has agreed to do it for £300.

A professional website design costs a lot more than £300, and it costs more for a good reason. It's better!

Here are some quick thoughts and insight into why you need a professional website design, and most importantly, why cheap is expensive, and expensive is cheap.

Hope you enjoy the episode, remember to subscribe and feel free to give us some feedback and let us know how we're getting on.

26 Jul 2019Episode 7 - Talking About SEO for Small Business with Konstantinos Ntoukakis00:23:43

We're back with our 7th Episode of All About Digital Marketing, and today marks a big occasion, our first guest on the podcast. We're talking with Konstantinos Ntoukakis from Studio For Digital Growth about why SEO is important for your business online and how you can make the most of it.

Konstantinos has worked with the Social INK team over the last few months to help us create a complete strategy for our SEO internally. We enjoy working with him and we love the results we've seen already in just the first few months.

Hope you enjoy the episode, and remember, subscribe to catch all the latest episodes as we continue bringing you real insights into digital marketing for small to mid-sized businesses.

PS: Apologies if the sound is a little low on this, my bad (Chris), brand new microphone setup, and even though it all sounded good on the monitor levels, turns out the recording was a little quiet. Don't worry though, we've fixed it for the next one.

09 Aug 2019Episode 8 - Gareth talks about Who, What, Where, When, Why and How00:05:12

In Episode 8, Gareth, Head of Content at Social INK, is talking about how to create engaging content for your blog posts and articles that you're writing. It's an old technique, and you may have even been taught about it in school (who remembers those days, right?).

When you're writing an article asking, and answering questions, is a great way to help readers engage with your content. As most journalists will tell you, the key to a great article lies in the 5 W's and the H.

Yep, that's right, the good old Who, What, Where, When, Why and of course, the How.

We hope you enjoy the episode, be sure to subscribe and as always, let us know any feedback you might have.

15 Aug 2019Episode 9 - Anna Talks About How Vanity Can Ruin Your Strategy00:08:46

In Episode 9, Anna Simmonds, social strategist and Head of Social at Social INK, confesses she's a recovering follower addict. In business, it's easy to be seduced by "vanity metrics" - definition explained in the episode - and lose track of what your actual goals are.

You did set goals, right? Here's a quick dive into what metrics to avoid, which metrics actually matter, and how to choose the right KPIs (key performance indicators) for your digital marketing. Chasing the wrong metrics can waste a lot of time, money, and actually take you several steps back, instead of forward. Setting the right goals is vital to growing your business online.

And yes, we know, follower count looks good. If only digital marketing was that easy!

23 Aug 2019Episode 10 - Storytelling and Creativity for Brands with Eugene Kan00:58:01

We’re talking all about storytelling and creativity with Eugene Kan, co-founder of MAEKAN and ex-editor of HYPEBEAST. Storytelling has been around since the beginning of time. We’ve used this as a means to pass on information to educate and warn each other as well as to entertain.

When it comes to your digital marketing, storytelling plays a massive role in the development of your brand online. Going even deeper, it plays a role in how you see your business as the owner, too.

Hope you enjoy the episode and got some value from the conversation with Eugene. Testing, trying, and actually doing are some of the most important factors when it comes to your digital marketing. Remember to subscribe and leave us a review to let us know what you think of the podcast.

Matt runs an agency, Pursuing Results which is focused on providing turn-key podcast productions services and PR. Suffice to say he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to podcasting.

12 Sep 2019Episode 12 - Putting the Social back in Social Media with Nick Entwistle00:51:28

In this episode, I'm talking with Nick Entwistle, Founder and CEO of Bank of Creativity and the amazing One Minute Briefs creative community (with more than 20k followers) on Twitter.

We're exploring social media and how brands create content that's right for their audience, and most importantly, content that starts conversations with their audience. Going through some of our favourite brands, like Innocent or KFC UK, it's all about being personable and having fun.

Most people set out to become, or their brand to become, social media famous. The reality is, it just doesn't happen that way. Listen to how Nick built OMB to more than 20k followers, and how he is now connected to a global audience that gets involved every day.

Whilst we're on the subject of social media, you'll also hear us talking about not forgetting to be social and the honest truth, "no one cares about you [your brand] online".

Hope you enjoy the episode.

19 Sep 2019Episode 13 - Improve Your Content Using Questions with Gareth Alvarez00:07:37

In this episode Gareth Alvarez, Head of Content at Social INK, shares a quick trick to improve your content. This applies to any business that shares blogs, articles, emails, and even video content.

Listen on to hear about how asking questions will improve your content and what questions to ask. It's all about putting on the mindset of a journalist and making sure you hook people in with the most important information, as soon as possible.

In today's marketing landscape, every business is a publisher. You're not only competing with businesses in your own industry, you're also competing for attention with every other business out there. The most valuable resource you can gain is ATTENTION. Asking the right questions will make sure you keep it.

Hope you enjoy the episode. Please rate and review, and find us @AllAboutDigMar on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to share your thoughts.

26 Sep 2019Episode 14 - The Attention War with Chris Bruno00:13:17

It's a war out there - a war for attention. In this episode, Chris Bruno dives into the attention war and what it means in practice for businesses and their digital marketing.

So what is the attention war? We all talk about content. We all talk about blogging. And we all know that these things form integral parts of everything that we do online. The problem is everybody else knows that. Everybody else feels the same way. So what's actually happening?

Chris digs into what it means, what businesses can do, and why busy marketing channels like social media are still a bigger opportunity than ever. It's all in the right approach.

Hope you enjoy the episode. Please subscribe, rate and review, and find us @AllAboutDigMar on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to share your thoughts.

03 Oct 2019Episode 15 - Build and Delight Your Email List with Travis Ketchum00:45:49

It was a pleasure to chat to Travis Ketchum all about email marketing and what small businesses can do to build and then automate an email list that actually grows their business. Travis started off with one problem he wanted to solve: how to build a big email list, quickly. His frustration with the clumsy nature of existing marketing automation and email marketing platforms led him down the rabbit hole to build his own solutions. Today, he's the Founder & CEO of Campaign Refinery, a "next-generation email marketing platform", and Contest Domination.

Contest Domination changed the way people think about viral lead-generating campaigns. Over 29 million contest entries down the line, I chatted to Travis all about email marketing, lead generation, entrepreneurship and how to delight your audience without going insane or being held back by tech. Say hello to small business automation.

Hope you enjoy the episode. Remember you can get all the show notes at AllAboutDigitalMarketing.co.uk

10 Oct 2019Episode 16 - Social Media Marketing Mistakes with Chris Bruno00:12:35

There's no such thing as perfection in marketing, but you CAN get ahead by avoiding these common social media marketing mistakes.

So today I wanted to talk a little bit about some of the most common mistakes that we've seen businesses make over the last 11 years. We have spoken and worked with, hundreds - maybe even thousands - of companies. Big, small, global, local, and in pretty much every industry you can imagine. From e-cigarettes, CBD businesses, blockchain, cryptocurrency, fintech, finance, retail, e-commerce, training, coaching businesses.

But there's been a few mistakes that we see businesses make. And we see them make them repeatedly and they've become, for us, the common mistakes, as it were.

Hope you enjoy the episode. Get all the show notes at AllAboutDigitalMarketing.co.uk

17 Oct 2019Episode 17 - Podcasts, Side Hustles, and 0 to 42K Views in 10 weeks with Mubashar Iqbal00:46:11

How can people find new podcasts? What's the "secret" to building traction? Is it harder to go from 0 to 100, or 1 million to 1 billion users? I chatted to Pod Hunt creator Mubashar Iqbal about his serial side projects, business today vs 10-20 years ago, and what it's like to do work you truly love.

Based in New York, Mubs works full-time for an agency and loves his job. And yet, he has built several dozen side projects and continues to do so. For the love of the work itself. We spoke about podcasting, how the marketing and content landscape has changed, why social media saves businesses literally THOUSANDS in market research and months of wasted time, and more.

Have a listen to discover the difference between outward success, and internal success. Not every business has to be (or wants to be) at FANG level. [Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, or Google]

If you enjoy the episode, please rate, review and share with a friend who could enjoy this "chapter" of the All About Digital Marketing podcast. Remember you can grab the shownotes at AllAboutDigitalMarketing.co.uk

24 Oct 2019Episode 18 - How to Find Your Voice, Grow with LinkedIn, and Use Cold Outreach with Xenia Muntean00:55:06

In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking to Xenia Muntean, CEO and co-founder of Planable. Planable is a marketing collaboration tool and has been used by well-known brands such as Jaguar Land Rover and Viber. Before she started Planable, she built her own social media agency while still studying - and led social campaigns for companies like Coca-Cola.

It's no surprise that her work has gotten her recognised on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. Her insight into branding, digital marketing, how to get feedback, B2B outreach strategy, and other actionable tips make this episode one you can't miss.

Hope you enjoy it. Remember to please rate and review, and share it with a founder who needs to hear it. Get all the show notes and links that we talked about on the website at www.AllAboutDigitalMarketing.co.uk

31 Oct 2019Episode 19 - Humanising B2B, Events, and Maximising Video with Maggie Bruk00:32:17

Businesses, whether B2B or B2C, can get a lot out of either hosting, attending, or exhibiting at events. So it was a pleasure to chat to Maggie Bruk, Marketing & Media Manager at Shocklogic, the event management software solution. Our conversation digs into events, humanising B2B, what Shocklogic themselves do to get leads online, and her tips on using video.

Listen in to get actionable tips and insight into where to focus your resources, how to repurpose content to save time AND be more effective, and why you don't have to talk about the "obvious" stuff to get leads or grow your business. In fact, it's better and more engaging to talk about the relatable things your clients and customers care about.

Remember to rate and review, and share this with a friend who needs an extra push to use events or video in their business. Read all the show notes and find all our channels at www.AllAboutDigitalMarketing.co.uk

This episode is a must-listen for apps, startups, and other digital-central companies. 14 Nov 2019Episode 21 - Marketing for Freelancers, Solopreneurs, and Going Old School with Gary Lewis00:51:17

In this episode, I had the pleasure of catching up with Gary Lewis, also known as Gary Does Copy, an established freelance copywriter who in his own words is a "creative generalist". But when he has to niche down, he'll say fintech.

This chat goes into detail about the realities of marketing yourself as a freelancer or solopreneur, the challenges of being the only "face" of the business, what works on social media for solo and small teams, and why content really IS king. LinkedIn, Twitter, creativity, and adding some personality are all themes we come back to in this conversation. Because they are incredibly valuable tools, especially for solo business owners.

Hope you enjoy the episode. Remember to rate and review, and share this with a friend who needs an extra boost in their digital marketing.

If you've been listening since Day 1 or have gone through the archive, you'll be familiar with Gareth Alvarez already. As Head of Content at Social INK, he's deep in the trenches, using content to grow businesses. Both Social INK's projects, and our clients.

In this episode, we chat about what "content marketing" actually is, how small businesses should approach it, how to produce a huge range of content without going crazy, and why it's best to be polarising.

And yes, bad press IS really better than no press.

28 Nov 2019Episode 23 - Putting the Social Back into Social Media with Chris Bruno00:08:50

Social networks used to be all about, well, social networking. Now, it's all about social "media". Social media has kind of taken the focus away from the connection side of things. And yet, being social on social media is exactly why it's the biggest opportunity for small businesses to grow.

You don't need to spend money to start having conversations or to engage in conversations on social media. That's free. The only thing it takes is time, effort and a little bit of a strategy to know what it is that you're actually going for.

Today, I'm talking all about putting social back into social media, as a small business, so you can get results online.

Hope you enjoy the episode. Please rate and review, and share with a friend in business to help boost their results on social media, too. You can find all the show notes at www.AllAboutDigitalMarketing.co.uk

05 Dec 2019Episode 24 - Accelerating Your Small Business Growth with Adam King00:57:32

It's always a pleasure to talk to Adam King and in this chat we're talking all about accelerating business growth. Not all marketing is made equal. Just because it "works" for someone else doesn't mean it will for you.

  • Three key growth accelerators [02:27]
  • Why we need a better word than 'funnel' [03:55]
  • Every transaction is human to human [09:34]
  • Simplicity + Focus = Growth [16:50]
  • Why doing social media because you "should" is the worst approach [22:23]
  • 3 things you need to know before you can grow [25:36]
  • The four things you need in your strategy document [31:03]
  • Marketing isn't a popularity contest [35:58]

So listen on to learn the foundational skills and tactics you need to thing about when it comes to your marketing strategy, so that no matter what you business is, where you are, or what you do - you see consistent growth. Consistently, and quickly.

Unfortunately, there's no magic button. But the right strategy will save you an enormous amount of time and money, and makes sure you aren't spending months (or years) swimming against the tide. (There's a somewhat nautical reference for you, Adam.)

12 Dec 2019Episode 25 - The Benefits of Remote Working with Chris Bruno00:08:11

Is remote working what it's made out to be? I might be a bit biased, but here's my perspective as CEO of Social INK, a completely decentralised digital marketing agency. Our entire team works remotely: from home, from coworking spots, while travelling - sometimes literally, like while in the air on a plane or on a train journey.

Remote working can inspire a lot of jokes about pyjamas and "days off". This couldn't be further from the truth. The reality is, remote working offers a ton of benefits. And we're not talking about "perks" like pretending to work while you're actually watching Netflix.

But what does this have to do with marketing? I'm talking about how remote working can benefit a business and make it more successful. And help you, as a business owner, do your best work.

Hope you enjoy the episode. Remember to rate and review, and share this with a friend who needs an extra boost in their digital marketing. You can find all the show notes at www.AllAboutDigitalMarketing.co.uk

19 Dec 2019Episode 26 - Why Being Social Stands Out with Chris Bruno00:08:39

Do you build relationships and community online, or are you shouting into a void with no results? We all need to find more ways to engage in and start conversations online. It's how we build relationships. It's how we build trust. And ultimately, it's how I believe more leads and more sales are created. Let's face it, it's all about making more money and increasing revenue. But there are multiple ways to skin a cat.

Social media represents an opportunity to have two-way conversations, to engage in conversations, to better understand your existing customers, your prospects, or even the target audience that you think is right for you and to find out what that actually looks like.

In this episode I'm talking more about the attention war - something we're all feeling more than ever as the year comes to a close. Everywhere you look there are more sales, urgent advertisements, work deadlines, family pressures, and a new decade on our doorstep.

So how does a business cut through the noise? By being social.

09 Jan 2020Episode 27 - Using Animation to Increase Profits with Kim Emson00:35:26

If you ever considered using animation in your marketing and your first thought was "how much would it cost", then this is an episode you have to listen to.

I chatted to Kim Emson, established animator, on how small businesses can increase profits, be more effective, and get results using animation and video. She also shares insights into how she herself as a business gets clients using social media. The secret? The right objective. Kim's passion and experience comes through, both as an animator and a business owner, so even if animation isn't in your plans, you'll be able to learn some foundational rules for any digital marketing.

30 Jan 2020Episode 30 - Good vs Bad Marketing: Circle of Influence vs Circle of Concern00:10:42

Recently I was taking some time to re-read the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey. Many years ago, I was lucky to be introduced and work with some of the great people from Franklin Covey, one of the world's largest and most successful training companies.

Whilst going through the habits, I came across the model for the Circle of Influence and the Circle of Concern. The principle on its own it's pretty simple. It comes down to focusing on the things you can influence vs the things you can't.

When I started to read this section again, I wondered how it would apply to marketing, and most importantly to good vs bad marketing. So I started to map it out.

You can find the graphics and all the show notes on our website.

We hope you are enjoying the show so far, 30 episodes already, doesn't time fly when you're having fun. Feel free to leave us a review or a comment to let us know your thoughts.

Many thanks for listening. Regards, Chris.

06 Feb 2020Episode 31 - Personal Branding With Lachlan Kirkwood00:40:49

In today's episode, Chris is joined by Lachlan Kirkwood, someone who really understands personal branding. When it comes to the digital stage, we're all putting ourselves out there on display and how we come across and who we target are important factors in helping to build a community around us.

Lachlan is based in Australia, his accent gives it away, and he's spent the last few years working for agencies and clients, focusing on paid performance for campaigns. During that time, he started sharing his learnings and case studies in detail on his website. The content that started as just for him to keep a record of his career, ended up providing huge value to a lot of others.

From there, Lachlan's personal brand and community grew. Today, he's a freelancer, and his community and reputation, thanks to his personal brand, allows him to work with people through his network and thanks to his reputation.

One of the biggest takeaways from this episode was this. By giving value, and not expecting anything in return, you'll invariably start to attract people to your personal brand.

Thanks for listening.

13 Feb 2020Episode 32 - Adding Humour To Your Marketing With Adam Hunt00:48:34

In today's episode, we're talking with Adam Hunt, from White Label Comedy. Being funny isn't always easy. We all know that one guy who's really funny, or sometimes we think we're funny and everyone else just "doesn't get your sense of humour".

But for brands and businesses online, it can be very hard to be funny online and make a successful campaign out of it. Enter Adam and his hive mind of comedy geniuses.

We talk about how the hive-mind works, and how Adam has brought together a group of genuinely funny writers to help businesses and brands take advantage of the attention war that is social media.

Standing out online can often be a challenge, and hitting the right note by making somebody laugh can have a huge impact. Hope you enjoy the episode as much as we did. Enjoy!

27 Feb 2020Episode 34 - Abundance vs Scarcity Mentality, Finding More Opportunities00:14:38

Sometimes in business, we can find ourselves in a competitive situation, we might have to pitch against another firm, or bid for contracts. But when it comes to your marketing, there are opportunities everywhere, if you know how to look for them.

The concept of the abundance vs scarcity mentality is all about identifying and seizing those opportunities.

Is it better to have the whole pie (albeit a small one) or to have a slice of a much, much bigger pie?

Ultimately the choice is yours, but when you start to realise that you might not be so alone and competing against everyone, you could realise that there's more than enough to go around.

05 Mar 2020Episode 35 - Talking About Hollywood, Personal Branding & So Much More With Nicole Russin-McFarland00:44:23

This episode is very different from my normal conversation about Digital Marketing, but nonetheless I think there is value in every conversation we have these days. Nicole Russin-McFarland is a film score composer and director based in Los Angeles.

She's created more content and tried more channels than most. What makes her stand out is her clarity in terms of her drive towards the clear goals she's set for herself.

The episode takes some big tangents and we go down some deep rabbit holes, but I think everyone can find something to take away from this. Whether it be what life in Hollywood is really like, or putting out content on various channels to see what really works.

Take a listen, hope you enjoy the episode and we'll be back to our usual digital marketing focus from next week onwards. But for now, here's some real insight into what that life in Hollywood is really like.

12 Mar 2020Episode 36 - Pareto's Principle, or the 80/20 Rule for Business and Marketing00:13:17

There are some things in life that are simply unavoidable. They happen, patterns, behaviours, whatever it might be. But in 1906, Pareto started to obsess over the 80/20 rule when he realised that around 80% of all the land in Italy was owned by 20% of the population.

After that, he started to look for the 80/20 rule in everything, and sure enough, he found examples, in nature and socio-economic practices around him.

Fast forward to today, and the 80/20 rule is prominent in business, and in our marketing efforts. The thing is, if you don't know what to look for, then you might be missing the signs that are so important.

So how does the 80/20 rule apply to your business and your marketing? Chances are 80% of profits come from 20% of your customers. Invariably, 80% of issues and problems, also come from 20% of your customers.

In this episode, we'll jump into how this works in marketing, and most importantly, what to look out for so as you can replicate the successes as they happen.

26 Mar 2020Episode 38 - Change and Evolution in Uncertain Times00:13:50

"The only constant in life is change" - Heraclitus

The Greek philosopher knew what he was talking about. In the last 2 months, the world has seen some of the biggest changes in the last 70+ years. The word unprecedented is now a daily occurrence.

But in and amongst all this, there's solidarity, ingenuity and change happening. In and amongst all the bad, there's good happening. And in today's episode, I want us all to focus on change and evolution.

There's so much uncertainty, for everyone right now, and no one is facing this struggle alone. We're all very much in this together. But right now, our businesses are facing challenges, our suppliers and our customers are also facing challenges.

So what can we do to help us adapt to this "new normal" way of life?

I hope you all stay safe and stay home.

23 Apr 2020Episode 42 - Paid Media, Ads & Understanding Your Audience with Naira Perez00:48:25

In this week's episode, we're talking with Naira Perez from Spring Hill Digital all about paid media, online ads and most importantly, understanding your audience and having a plan before spending your money.

It's easy to talk about, but hard to implement. When as marketers we talk about everything being an experiment or a test, we don't mean "throwing spaghetti against a wall to see what sticks", we mean educated guesswork based on a thorough understanding of your audience.

You'll love this episode if you are looking to start running adverts, or even if you've already started, as you'll gain some real insight into how agencies run their client's online campaigns.

14 May 2020Episode 45 - Communication over Sales00:13:19

We all know how important communication is. Over the past 2 months, it became even more pertinent. We noticed how many companies have kept our email address on file, and wanted to let us know how they were dealing with a global pandemic. In this episode, we're talking all about communication OVER sales.

Too many people use social media as a bullhorn, they shout at their audience, trying desperately to generate revenue. Instead, why not focus on an approach intended on communicating with prospects and your audience. Having conversations to strengthen the relationships within your community.

Chris Bruno started Social INK in 2008, and for more than a decade has been helping brands to start conversations, build communities and as a result, drive conversions.

Years ago he taught marketing, and one of the key aspects for him was the emotions that are key drivers in purchasing decisions. Something that unfortunately is often overlooked in marketing today.

This week's episode is all about content marketing and building websites that attract real visitors. We've all seen way too many ads for that promised land of passive income from websites, but what's the reality behind starting a website, building it up from scratch and finally generating revenue from it?

Vincent D'Eletto from WordAgents knows a thing or two about building websites that actually generate revenue. His agency specialises in creating content that helps drive traffic, the holy grail in the success of any online business.

Listen to the pro as we talk about what it really takes to go from zero-to-revenue for a new website, and just how much work is involved. It's a huge eye-opener before you embark on a "get-rich-quick" scheme that others might promise you.

18 Jun 2020Episode 50 - Starting A Podcast As A Challenge and Looking Back00:24:50

50 episodes already, that's crazy! This week's episode is all about why and how we started a podcast. It all started as an internal agency challenge in July 2019 and from there, things just continued to move forward. So much so that nearly a year later, here we are, already at 50 episodes.

So we decided to come together as a team and talk a little about how it all started and more importantly, how you can do the same thing. There's a lot to be said for just biting the bullet and trying something.

Internally I've started to refer to it as the Consistent Experimenter. As marketers or business owners, we need consistently experiment. Try new things, build out new ideas, launch things and see what works and what doesn't for our business.

Innovation has been a key factor in the success of our clients' marketing, and also in ours. We're often surprised what really resonates with people. It's not always what we thought it would be.

I hope you all stay safe.

Pretty much every business, big and small, wants to generate more leads. It's the basis of helping to grow revenue.

But for way too many businesses, there's a lack of understanding around the buyer persona, the customer journey and the key metrics that help businesses identify where they generate leads from, at what cost and for what return.

14 Jul 2020Episode 55 - Why You Need To Start Batching Your Content Creation00:10:54

In today's episode, we're talking all about why it's so important to start batching your content creation. If you don't know what I mean, let me explain.

No matter if it's one of the "big boys", or just someone you follow. When someone is pumping out LOADS of content (and you're wondering how they keep it up), there is a 99% chance that they are batching their content creation process. It's the only way to do it.

Batching your content creation, whether it's for blog articles or social media posts, is very simple. You fix yourself a chunk of time, an hour or two, in your calendar, just for that. During that time you can focus, and simply create.

Once you've finished a batch of content, then you can plan it out, schedule it for release, and ultimately sit back and enjoy a nice cup of tea (insert Gin and Tonic) and watch as your content stream continues to work for you, without needing your input every day, multiple times a day.

But don't forget to keep batching, otherwise once that content has been used, there will be nothing left and then you're back to scrambling.

I hope you all stay safe.

16 Jul 2020Episode 56 - Building Your Marketing & Brand With Print On Demand with Raitis Purins00:40:40

Today's episode is all about building your marketing and your brand using print on demand. We're joined by Raitis Purins from Printful. After 7 years of building a multi-integrated, drop-shipped, print on demand business takes a lot of time and effort. As Raitis has helped build this business, he's learnt the ways that businesses have maximised the opportunities available.

If you already have a business or a community, print on demand could be a great opportunity for you to build additional product offerings, or even as a way to allow your community to support your efforts.

It's always interesting to understand a different business model, and you'll often find that you can learn something new from a different model that is directly applicable to who you are and what you are doing.

Today's episode is all about 3 tools that we use as an agency to save hundreds of hours each and every year. When it comes to content creation, we've already talked about batching your content. But what happens when you start to build a team?

From project management to creative collaboration, they allow us to continually build our business and our marketing efforts, whilst saving us time. Time, after all, is the most precious resource we have.

28 Jul 2020Episode 59 - Another Content Marketing Experiment - The Social INK Show00:52:55

Today's episode is all about experimenting, by sharing Social INK's most recent experiment itself. The Social INK Show is a "raw" long-format conversation between our host Chris Bruno and commercial director, James O'Donnell.

We both love to experiment and challenge ourselves. As part of that on-going process, we created The Social INK Show to be able to record a long-form piece of content and then use that content over the course of a month.

So far it's become an episode of this podcast, it's helped us write 5 blogs, we've cut 6 short videos from it, and we've still got more plans to come. In a future episode, I'll detail how were trying to use this one piece of content to fuel multiple others to help give you ideas of how you can do the same.

04 Aug 2020Episode 61 - Ideation vs Execution00:10:38

Today's episode is all about the age-old debate between ideation and execution.

When it comes to your digital marketing, it's all about coming up with ideas, but those ideas have to be executed on if they can stand a chance of performing well.

Maybe the debate isn't about which is better, the ideas or their execution. Maybe it's actually about finding the balance between the two. Ideas to fuel execution, and execution which invariably fuels more ideation.

At Social INK, as an agency, we work on "Launch ready" not perfect. That helps us to continue to create ideas, but also ensures we continue to deliver, experiment and find what works for us and our audience.

I hope you all stay safe.

06 Aug 2020Episode 62 - Finding Your Personal Story With Nick Cavuoto00:47:00

Today's episode is all about the future of business being focused around building relationships through authentic connections, with Nick Cavuoto.

Nick has an incredible story to share with you in today's episode. It's unique to him, and he shares it with an openness and honesty that's eye-opening for many of us.

For many years, he's helped entrepreneurs and businesses achieve more through their marketing. But his real passion and where he excels is in helping others to open up and find their authentic self to share online.

If you take away just one thing from this episode it should be this:

"Take a step back and realise how amazing you actually are. Look how far you've come. Look at everything that you've overcome. Look at all your success stories that you've already had. Again, entrepreneurship is about failure and pain." - Nick Cavuoto

11 Aug 2020Episode 63 - Experimenting and Repurposing Content00:10:40

Today's episode is all about experimenting with your content marketing. Every agency and marketer out there is experimenting. Whether it be for your advertising online, for your sales pages, anything. It's all based on testing to see what works and what doesn't.

At Social INK, we're big believers in experimenting with content. In fact, recently we've been doing a huge amount of it. From Episode 59 The Social INK Show Experiment, through to Episode 61 Ideation vs Execution, we've been testing how we can repurpose more content.

Repurposing is a simple concept. Once you've created a piece of content, can it be used in one way or another to create more content? So for example, The Social INK Show was a 40-minute conversational style video which has now become a podcast, 4 blog articles, 6 short videos and we're still taking more from it.

So the real question to ask yourself is this; are you experimenting enough and are you repurposing your existing content?

I hope you all stay safe.

Today's episode is all about starting your digital marketing journey by really understanding your target audience and creating for them. We're joined by Mike and Gaby Grinberg, a husband a wife team, that run Proof Point digital marketing agency.

Their story is unique. Why they started their business is powerful. What they've done since starting is incredible.

This is the first time we've spoken to a husband and wife team who are running a business, and it's clear to see why this works so well with Mike and Gaby.

18 Aug 2020Episode 65 - Training Your Creativity Muscle00:09:28

Today's episode is all about becoming more creative with your marketing efforts. Many of you listening are going to start by saying "yeah, but I'm not creative". Guess what? Creativity is just like anything else in life, you need to work at it to become better.

Just like any muscle in your body, it needs regular training, exercise and workouts to help it become stronger. Whether you want to write more blogs or create better graphics for social media, or maybe it's ideation that you're really struggling with, you need to start doing it more often, so as you continue to get better at it.

James Altucher talks about the concept of 10 ideas a day. If you want to become an ideas machine, you need to write down 10 ideas a day. This technique means your brain is always fired up to find ideas and creative solutions to anything in the future.

This episode is another experiment, where we've taken a blog that was originally posted on www.chrisbruno.co, our host's personal website. If you enjoyed the episode, make sure to subscribe and leave us a review.

04 Sep 2020Episode 70 - Understanding Your Customers With Dionysia McPherson00:46:02

Today's episode is all about how your customers should be at the forefront of what you're doing. It doesn't matter if it's for your marketing, your product development or your company in general. Putting your customer at the heart of everything you do always pays dividends.

Dionysia McPherson, from PaperForm, and her husband, Dean, know how important this is. In fact, Dionysia has spent many hours, days and weeks, running 1-2-1 sessions with their clients just to make sure she really understands them.

This isn't just as simple as checking the support tickets, although she does believe that all their employees should spend some time on customer support (to really understand who they're working for in the first place). She's even had to wake up in the middle of the night, just to take 1-2-1 calls to better understand her customers on the other side of the planet.

Now, that's dedication. What can you learn from this? Simple! It's all about getting to know, and understanding, your customers intimately.

08 Sep 2020Episode 71 - 5 Tips For More Engagement On Social Media00:14:46

Today's episode is all about increasing your engagement on social media. We've been helping brands online since 2008 at Social INK, so as you can imagine, we've seen a thing or two along the way.

One of the biggest complaints we hear is brands complaining that the engagement levels on social media are terrible-to-non-existent.

But usually, we dig a little deeper than that. And one of our questions to brands is, when was the last time you asked your audience to engage?

It sounds so simple, but here it is, why would anyone engage with your brand if they don't feel like welcome to do so. You're trying to build a community online, right? So, let's invite everyone in. Let's make it welcoming, let's encourage conversation, debate, or sharing.

Join your host, Chris Bruno, to find out more.

Glacé Media has worked with big brands and small business. Their work speaks for themselves. But in today's episode, we're talking more specifically about how small businesses can maximise the potential of video content marketing without breaking the bank.

15 Sep 2020Episode 73 - We All Have Marketing Failures00:12:44

Today's episode is all about marketing failures. Just like in business and in life, we all have failures. But it's not about the failures themselves. As cliché as it sounds, it's about what you learn from those mistakes.

Here's the thing, we don't know any marketers that have no failures. We know marketers who are too interested in their ego to admit to their failures, but we all have them. In fact, digital marketing is basically built on failures and lessons learnt.

It's how we test, experiment, learn and improve. Every day, it's about optimising, finding ways to make things better. But it all usually starts with finding out what works and what doesn't. Each of our failures of what doesn't work, simply helps us figure out exactly what does.

22 Sep 2020Episode 75 - Why You Need A Content Calendar00:10:02

Today's episode is all about why you should have a content calendar to help you run your digital marketing. Yep, that's right, having planned content going forward will make your life a lot easier. Most importantly it will make sure you never miss those important dates and opportunities.

Far too many small businesses are simply posting on social media because they think they "have to be on social media".

There's no benefit to simply posting from time to time when you remember. Your content should be planned, with purpose, and then scheduled and ready to go out. That starts with a content calendar.

You can find a free content calendar template thanks to the team at Social INK.

29 Sep 2020Episode 77 - Should You Start A Podcast?00:13:27

Today's episode is all about whether or not you should start a podcast. So many people out there are doing it, so should you start one as well?

Some people are going to tell you NOT to do it. You'll get lost in a sea of other podcasts that are started and that never go anywhere. Others, however, will tell you that it's a great way to build your network and increase your visibility.

We're going to say this. If you love the process as much as we do, then starting a podcast and most importantly, continuing to create a podcast is incredible. 77 Episodes in, and we can honestly say, this is one of the highlights of our days.

Just remember this. If you're going to create a podcast, you need to love doing it, and most importantly you need to do it for a specific audience.

I hope you all stay safe.

Enjoy!

30 Sep 2020Episode 78 - Answering Questions With Malcolm Hill01:01:21

Today's episode is a little bit different. Aren't they all experiments, we hear you ask? Well yes, but today we're talking to Malcolm Hill, a professional surf instructor currently living in Costa Rica. You can check out his Instagram (we did, we were instantly jealous). The real question is why?

Malcolm reached out to us after listening to a few episodes of the show. He's a surf instructor and in 2020 his main occupation became a wipeout (see what we did there). tourists were no longer flocking to Costa Rica. Hotels weren't packed. And as a result, there were no surf lessons to be given.

So he decided to start focusing on how local businesses could use digital marketing as a way to improve their current situation. He decided to reach out to us, and we decided to make a crazy new type of episode. One where we would help answer his questions about digital marketing and what he's working on.

This is definitely another one of our experiments, but we loved making this one. Chris personally really enjoyed the conversation and it was great to meet Malcolm from the other side of the world. A new connection, all thanks to this podcast.

So check out the episode, let us know what you think about the format, and don't be scared to reach out if you have some questions you'd like answered on the podcast.

I hope you all stay safe.

Enjoy!

13 Oct 2020Episode 81 - You Don't Need Shiny New Toys!00:12:28

Today's episode is all about avoiding shiny new toys. By this, I'm talking about the shiny new MARKETING toys. Not telling you not to treat yourself in your life.

Way too many people spend time trying to figure out the best way to set something up. It ultimately becomes a great way to procrastinate and ultimately not do what they should be doing.

Whether it be setting up email automation, or write a blog, or start a podcast, or run ads. Whatever it is, it's easy to put it off telling yourself you need X to make that work. The truth is you don't.

When we decided to start the All About Digital Marketing podcast, we start where we were, with what we had, and that was it. There was no initial investment. We simply used Apple headphones and a Zoom connection. Today, 81 episodes later, we have a couple of microphones. But a lot of our guests don't.

Don't procrastinate by focusing on shiny new toys. Want to set up a funnel? Do it with what you have. Want to collect email addresses? Create a giveaway with what you have. Want to start a podcast? Focus on the content, not the shiny new toys you think you need.

I hope you all stay safe.

Enjoy!

20 Oct 2020Episode 83 - Have You Finished Your Christmas Marketing Plan?00:11:45

Today's episode is all about why you should already have your Christmas marketing plan in place and ready to go. So, the real question is, do you have your Christmas plan in place yet?

It's something that we often think is a long way away. It always feels like it's a long way away. But in reality, as this episode goes live, there are just 2 months left. 2 MONTHS! Where does the time go?!?!?!

So before you get swept away in the Christmas rush, and let's be honest, we all get swept away by it in some form or another, let's make sure you have your Christmas marketing plan ready to go.

Working backwards, from Christmas, through to your last delivery date before Christmas, then the build-up to Christmas, and all the way to the pre-Christmas "holidays" (Black Friday and Cyber Monday).

Getting on top of it now will make sure you don't feel the unnecessary stress at the time.

I hope you all stay safe.

22 Oct 2020Episode 84 - Small Business Marketing with Monique Idemudia00:47:16

27 Oct 2020Episode 85 - Create Consistent Content For Your Audience00:12:30

Today's episode is all about consistency. Yep, that's right, people like consistency. Take this podcast for example. We started with a commitment to release a new episode every week. People get used to that, and the consistency proves an important element in letting people know that you're invested in them before they invest in you.

When it comes to social media marketing, the same is true. It's happened to all of us, right? We put off posting till tomorrow. Then something comes up at work, then it's the weekend. I'll do it on Monday. Etc Etc... Until suddenly it's been weeks since your last post was published.

There's nothing worse for a brand, and more importantly for your prospective customers than coming to a website or a social media channel, and realising that it's inactive. When that happens, people start to wonder if the company or brand is inactive too.

So, the name of the game is consistency. Consistently posting on the channels you've chosen. Keep that conversation alive and show your audience that you're invested just as much as they should be.

I hope you all stay safe.

Enjoy!

03 Nov 2020Episode 87 - Do You Have A Lead Magnet?00:12:47

Today's episode is all about lead magnets. What are lead magnets? The premise is simple enough. It's something that you can offer to your audience in return for their email address. Yes, it really is that simple.

You've seen tons of different styles of lead magnets over the years, even if you weren't aware of them. From ebooks to tools, checklists to webinars. Any time you're offered something that you then need to give your email address to access is in fact a lead magnet.

So, should you have a lead magnet? Well, there are a lot of different schools of thoughts on this. We believe it's an effective way to be able to offer real value to your audience, whilst also generating your mail list. So what sort of lead magnet can you create easily? Well, you'll have to listen to the episode to find that out.

Join the host of the All About Digital Marketing podcast, Chris Bruno, as he talks all about how you can easily create a lead magnet.

I hope you all stay safe.

05 Nov 2020Episode 88 - Building A Website That Works With Chris Thomas00:46:08

Today's episode is all about building a website that really works for you and your business. Chris Thomas, Founder of Yonder Agency, has been building websites for years. From small businesses to large agency life, his experience has seen it all.

Chris describes himself as 40% creative, 40% strategic and 20% BBQ. He's down to earth, approachable and understands his craft intimately. The important aspects for small businesses, when it comes to their website, it's about creating and building something that will actually generate leads or sales.

But it's important to be able to identify what you sell in under 15 seconds. That's right. Those first 15 seconds on your website should clearly identify exactly who you are and what you do. Help people to understand that.

As Chris says "Be clear over cute" on your website!

I hope you all stay safe.

10 Nov 2020Episode 89 - Localising E-Commerce For Local Independent Retailers00:19:14

Today's episode is from The Social INK Show. James O'Donnell, Commercial Director and Chris Bruno, Founder of Social INK, are talking all about how small independent retailers can use e-commerce to help interact with their local customers.

Localising e-commerce is a great way during these uncertain times to remain connected with your local customers. Lots of people want to support their local stores, but it's hard to do when you're locked down in your house. They turn to Amazon, or the big chains, as it's easy.

But what if it was as easy to buy from a local independent retailer?

What if they could continue to shop online, but get that "feel good" factor of supporting a local business at the same time? Enjoy the episode, and if you have any questions, remember, you can book a free consultation with the Social INK team at any time.

Today's episode is all about business development through outreach online. We all know how important outreach can be, and too many people don't like doing it. It feels like being a door to door salesman. But it doesn't have to be that way.

Dan Englander, Founder of Sales Schema is specialised in doing just that. And guess what? Just like any other marketing channel or tactic, there's a methodology to it.

It starts by understanding your audience. Focusing on marketing to them, by bringing them something they want and need. So how are you focusing your outreach online?

17 Nov 2020Episode 91 - Planning Your Marketing For 202100:13:35

Today's episode is all about planning your marketing for 2021. Yep, let's face it 2020 is nearly over (and good riddance). It's time to start thinking about what comes next. For some organisations, this is a yearly ritual. A time to reflect on what has and hasn't worked and a time to think about what comes next.

But just like with any marketing, having a plan is crucial. Yes, we all know the Mike Tyson quote "everyone has a plan till they get punched in the face". But having no plan in marketing is a sure-fire way to allow procrastination to get in the way.

It's time to take the bull by the horns. We are all hoping for a better year next year. Maybe one with a little less drama. That's where planning your marketing for 2021 comes into play. This year may have been good, or bad, for your business. Either way, it's over. It's time to look forward and plan what comes next.

If you need help kickstarting planning your marketing for 2021, feel free to grab a free consultation with Social INK.
