In Shetland, as with Scotland as a whole, we are lucky to have such progressive public access rights and legislation, however with such freedom comes great responsibility. These responsibilites are outlined for us in the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, and in this episode Jon goes through the code and breaks it down for you!
For more information on the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, visit: https://www.outdooraccess-scotland.scot/

One of the many reasons people travel to Shetland is to get off the beaten path, avoid the crowds and explore places they wouldn't get the chance to otherwise. However, even in Shetland, some places are busier than others.
Join Jon from Adventure Shetland as he takes you through 5 of his favourite Hidden Gems in Shetland, and hopefully they can inspire your next Shetland adventure!

This year's edition sees Jon tell 3 scary stories featuring three different creepy creatures from Shetland's vast folklore tradition. The first story - "Sigurd o' Gord" - tells the story of a man who visits the trows. In "Da Oo Tiggers", a pair of witches visit a family, and attempt to destroy their lives after a slight. And finally, "The Skull" is a terrifying ghost story of a bridegroom and a fateful encounter caused by his dog...

Spooky season is upon us once again, and there have been far too few podcast episodes since the last one of these - apologies for that!
For this year's Hallowe'en special, I'm telling an old story from Unst about a game of cards that got so out of hand the Devil himself appeared to dish out the consequences!
Thanks, as always, to The Revellers for kindly letting me use their music in these podcasts. The songs are "Refugee Nobleman" and "Skeletons".

We're heading further into winter in Shetland, which means many folk around the isles are getting deeper into their preparations for Up Helly Aa.
This festival has evolved into a celebration of our islands' Viking heritage, and you can learn more about it here: https://youtu.be/s0BhejPp2zg?si=vATcOjhsuugpIHSJ
With that in mind, I thought telling this Viking story from Unst - the Tale of Goturm the Dane - would be fun. This was originally recorded for our supporters on Patreon, which you can find out more about here: https://youtu.be/3GgcRh74qSQ?si=4AyPb6cQgXKFtDzl
