17 Dec 2024Mini Series - Alex Easby - Performance and Breathwork Coach Working with Impact Founders and CEOs00:33:51
Episode 5 of the Mini-Series on The Art of Something is with my friend Alex Easby.

I can't actually recall the moment I was introduced to Alex. I know it was a few years ago from a mutual friend I believe, but I can't give you the moment. To my memory, it was a classic situation where someone I knew wanted me to meet someone they knew. Either way, I ended up going on a podcast with him, and it was that incredible feeling where you felt at home communicating with a stranger.

Alex has a soothing way of communicating about him and an openness that has always intrigued me. He is a master of his craft and shows tremendous care in his work. These traits were clearly evident to me when I first spoke to him and my admiration towards his pursuit has remained high ever since.

When I had a window to interview a few people in the fall of 2023, Alex was the first to come to mind. I reached out to see his interest, and we immediately popped on for a podcast. As you will hear, he had been traveling and experiencing life. He shares wonderful stories and has such a unique way of articulating his perspective. It was an honor to record another show with Alex and I'm grateful we've sustained our friendship over the years.

Enjoy my friends.

24 Feb 2025014 - Lewis Brinson - First-Round Draft Pick, MLB Baseball Player, Entrepreneur and Creator01:09:51
Welcome back to this week's episode with Lewis Brinson. The 2012 first-round draft pick by the Texas Rangers out of high school. Lewis was a highly touted prospect in high school before finding himself in the draft. He then carried that status to the Major Leagues when he debuted in June 2017. Eventually, he took his game overseas and played in Japan before finishing up in Mexico.

I briefly interacted with Lewis a few years ago in California and instantly gravitated to his vibe. He has an enthusiasm about him that is hard not to appreciate. Fortunately, we reconnected this past winter and found time to converse. The recently retired ball player took his curiosity to entrepreneurship and creation. Whether his endeavors lead down the path of speaking or creating community, it's hard not to admire the life he brings to his craft.

Lewis has traveled the world playing ball, experiencing pressures and circumstances that many athletes do not. I thoroughly enjoyed walking through the path and listening to him describe awareness. His ability to articulate stories and scenarios that occurred in his career, making him who he is today, inspires anyone. Finding ourselves within our journey brings us closer to our voice. The most authentic version of who we are. I feel this conversation expressed that. One Love.

29 Nov 2024Mini Series - Brian Bannister - Senior Advisor to Pitching with the Chicago White Sox00:36:21

Episode 2 of The Art of Something Mini-Series is with my good friend Brian Bannister. I was fortunate to coach alongside Banny for a few years in San Francisco, and it was a true honor to pick the brains of a master such as Banny. The first time I saw him, he was hovering over a computer with his hood over his head. He was dialed on a pitcher's mechanics at a level I had never seen before.

At that moment, he addressed me with a genuine smile and a presence that gravitated my soul toward his energy. However, I always wanted to pay respect to his precision and focus. Banny, whom I consider "Master Splinter," is one of the most unique and brilliant minds I've encountered.

In this action-packed episode, we cover various topics around health and teaching. What I admire most about my friend is his willingness to remain curious. He is a tremendous conversationalist, but it stems from his passion for learning. Enjoy this episode. Thank you for your time and your love.

20 Nov 2024Mini Series - Tyler Beede - MLB Pitcher and Co-founder of PitchSafe00:30:50

Hello friends, I did a mini-series of podcasts nearly a year ago during the fall of 2023.

I recorded these with a 40-minute time restraint. The platform I used to record was only allowed for such a time. If you have followed my podcast in the past, you know I love raw, authentic conversation. I've never been one for scripts. These podcasts coming up are short, impactful, and fun.

My friend Tyler Beede and I kicked off the mini-series. Ty and I met in 2021 during spring training with the San Francisco Giants. We bonded over breathwork and human performance. Our friendship was maintained as he went on to pitch for different teams across the Major Leagues and even had a stint in Japan.

Enjoy this conversation with my friend Tyler.

Cory Gregory (@corygfitness @maxeffortmuscle) is a life long fitness entrepreneur and competitor. He is joined by Brian Peters and Harvey Martin in an electric conversation about purpose, entrepreneurship, developing confidence, the importance of grit and standards, and making generational change.

The boys dive deep into Cory's journey to create the job and life he wanted for himself.  Grinding through the coal mine to become a personal trainer and eventually a successful fitness entrepreneur and owner of multiple supplement and fitness companies.  He deconstructs he mindset and the things he uses to keep him, his business, and actions up to his high standards.  Buckle up.  Some of the boys get emotional.  All of them get deep into the magic that is Cory's story, mindset, and structure to obtain a life he dreamed of. Enjoy!

On this week's Episode, Harvey and Austin go to Instagram Live to talk about breathing and performance, as well as field questions from viewers that relate to many different topics within performance and breath work.  Questions range from adapting the body for cold/hot environments in performance through breathing, understanding how breathing is impacted during intense (anaerobic) training and how to shift in and out of aerobic/anaerobic arousal with our breathing, and becoming aware of accidental breath-holding and how that can influence the body/mind.  Harvey pokes at Austin repeatedly because of his low energy, due to a poor night of sleep.  Tune in for a fun, educational conversation regarding specific examples that can help performers breathe and execute their craft!

On this episode, 13-year NHL veteran and current Philadelphia Flyers center Nate Thompson joins us to share some of the vast wisdom gained from a long career in the NHL.  Along with his wisdom, Nate's continued passion for the game is inspiring.  He continues to chase every edge possible at 37 years of age to sustain his success.  Along with that, you'll get to hear some unbelievable nuggets about leading the younger guys, things he had to learn when he was young, and his change in attitude when he got sober.  On the quest to reach 1,000 career NHL games, Nate talks about his reinvigorated spirit towards training - adopting new age modalities like cold/heat exposure and breath work to enhance performance.  This transitions beautifully into Nate's Diamond Series - what he's willing to struggle for, his non-negotiables, habits, and vision for the future.  We finish the conversation talking about free will.  Do we have it, or is our decision-making just a collection of the options we knew at the time?

ABOUT NATE THOMPSON

Nate is an Anchorage, Alaska native who has carved out near 20 years in pro hockey.  He has spent 13 NHL seasons with 9 different organizations.  A 6th round draft pick (183 overall) of the Boston Bruins in the 2003 NHL Draft, Nate made his NHL debut in 2006-2007 with the Bruins.  Over the next 14 years, Nate would spend time with the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, Ottawa Senators, Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, and Winnipeg Jets.  In that time he has scored 64 goals and recorded 97 assists.  Now, Nate focuses on being a person who is remembered as a strong leader and a good teammate.  Nate also hopes that those who are struggling know that they're not alone, and that asking for help is the best thing you can do.

17 Feb 2025012 - Xavier Scruggs - Former MLB Player, Current MLB Broadcaster/Sports Analyst, Entrepreneur and Speaker00:58:58
Welcome back to another episode. This week's guest is Xavier Scruggs. Mr. Scruggs is a former Major League Baseball Player who turned his career into broadcasting and media content. His story is inspiring, as you learn to admire his connection to intuition. He is curious, open-minded, and well-articulated. Xavier peels into his path after sports and how he narrowed down his training to become a fluent speaker. His presence is engaging, and for these reasons, it's obvious he found early success following his playing days.

Throughout the conversation, we dive into various topics around performing, exploration, and finding authenticity. Xavier has inspired me not only because of his achievements but also because of his faith, obedience, and values as a father. He maintains such clarity as he navigates the world, and I feel that this will be emphasized throughout the show.

Enjoy getting to know this man, especially if you're into baseball. There is a high likelihood you will hear his voice regularly around the stadiums of America this summer.
