Happy Halloween 2024!!! This year we choose the Jordan Peele classic Get Out. A movie that black people felt on multiple levels, and a movie white people "understood". We talk Jordan Peele, white women, negro fears, early 2000s fashion,  pornstars and the sunken place. 

The Core is amazingly forgettable and amazingly dull. I'm mad I choose this movie for 3BG. Blame Dee. That's right, blame me for it all damnit! For the podcast being late, for no one really givjng a shit about this movie in 2003. Hell blame me for Delroy Lindo dying in the movie. I could've saved him. I could have spared him from being cooked to death like ribs at a TGI Fridays. Wait where was I at? I dunno. ENJOY!

Ever seen a movie that had a good premise but ultimately botches that premise by doing not a damn thing with it? Well thats Brightburn in a nutshell. A movie that has the makings of something great but does nothing with it.

Before we got the awesomeness that was Samurai Champloo, we were graced with another show based around samurai in the form of Rurouni Kenshin. Set during the Meji Era, the show traced a wandering samurai named Kenshin as he had various adventures and fights while also keeping his past as a killer behind him. Its a pretty solid show with the Kyoto arc being the pinnacle of the series. 

Back at it again talking to Denzel about his various dealings being in the theatre community and also random talks about getting your foot in the door through social media. 

So the much anticipated followup to Kingsman The Secret Service is finally here and it turns out to be a very solid followup with a few hiccups. On one hand the action and story is a wild ride with some twists you'll see coming and others you won't see. On the other hand though, the movie at times feels like its trying to one up the previous film with the action and the movie is a bit too long. Either way you'll enjoy the movie overall and won't regret it.

Pam Grier became an icon because of this movie and we finally get to talk about it! We have our friend and man who.had his beard touched by Ms. Grier, Jon Cross of After Movie Diner.

Just Mercy is a movie based off the true story of Walter McMillian, a black man from Monroeville, Alabama, who was accused and convicted of murdering a 18 year old white woman. Through the trial and tribulation of Bryan Stevenson, Walter was able to get his conviction overturned and was free from jail.

The best thing about this film is that it doesn't sugarcoat all the hardships that Bryan had to go through in helping Walter. Michael B. Jordon does a good job of showing the hardships and Jamie Foxx acts his ass off in portraying Walter. More than anything its the supporting cast that does a phenomenal job from Brie Larson to Karen Kendrick who plays Minnie McMillian.

The film is just solid across the board. Definitely a must see film. Go see it when it drops December 25, 2019 in theaters across the country.

The yearly teamups of the CW DCtv heroes has always been fun watches and Elseworlds is no different. What we have is a crossover thats a little bit more personal in that focus is strictly on Supergirl, Arrow, and Flash w/ a dash of Superman. The XXL Freshman list is where young up-and-coming hip-hop talent is showcased as the best of their class. Sure some said no to the list but that doesn't matter. Dee and DK sit and talk about all of the rookies and judge them. It's a fun little convo about hip-hop from a rapper and a former rapper.

A movie that harkens back to the old school era of action. Simple plot that gets straight to the point and a cast of characters that are just fun to watch. Definitely worth a watch.

In 2020, Dee said "Fantasy Island" has an ass kicking waiting on it in a few years. Well it's been a few. This movie sucks all round. It had chances to work, but nah. BTW, this the Halloween Special. Boo Nigga.

Luke Cage Season 2 steps on the gas and never lets up and with that we get a strong followup to the 1st season. Any gripes and complaints from the 1st season is easily rectified in the 2nd season from the heroes and the villains to the story pacing to the music. Every single character gets an arc of sorts and they each go on a different journey. Cheo Coker and co. do a phenomenal job yet again.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Ishana Night Shyamalan first big movie and...we're not saying he wrote this movie but he was definitely in the room every step of the way.

Maleficent Mistress of Evil is a very busy movie with lots of subplots. Some of them pay off and some of them go nowhere. Very entertaining movie with Angeline and Michelle chewing the scenery every chance they get. Overall its a fun family film that kids especially will love.

Midway is basically what the Michael Bay Pearl Harbor movie should've been in the first place. This is a film that is ultimately a cinematic documentary of the road leading to the Battle of Midway. While all the actors do a good job as these real life people that played a part in the battle, you don't really care about them so much as seeing these action sequences play out. The characters are really just there to push the story narrative.

End of the day, the movie is worth a watch mainly for the engaging action.

Coming off the heels of The Matrix, The Animatrix was born out of the series starting to expand out into a full fledged franchise. With that came a need to explain the nuances of the world of the Matrix and how everything came to be. The Animatrix succeeds in giving an account of how the machines managed to take over the humans while also giving story accounts of how the Matrix effected other characters. Lots of solid animation from various studios and yet another solid soundtrack, the Animatrix is definitely worth a watch.

The Mad Max series marches on and George Miller isn't missing at all. Cj and DjTsu talk about the newest saga and their thoughts on it.

Funny moments, good music, incredible acting, use of the word "degenerate", very real-life dialogue, and drug use. The world of Wall Street is a crazy sick place where it's good to be white and even better when you're a wolf. 

Dee and CJ celebrate the Washington Nationals being World Series champs then lament on the Redskins bumbling of Trent Williams while recapping NFL Week 8.

So the first experiment in Marvel doing a full blown Netflix series on superheroes kicks off with a hero that had a bit of a shaky past in media. Ben Affleck donned the mask and pulled off a decent movie which had a better version on home video. So here we are with Charlie Cox pulling off the role of Matt Murdoch/Daredevil and he does a damn good job along with the supporting cast of Vincent D'Nofrio, Rosario Dawson, Vonde Curtis Hall, and Elden Henson.

The time has come to see whose really the King of the Monsters. Kong vs Godzilla is a movie that gets straight to the point of what its about. Yes some story elements clearly got taken out of the script for some of the human characters but we're not here for them. We're here to see Kong and Godzilla fight it out and boy oh boy do they deliver. So sit back and listen to the guys geek out and joke about this film.

Anthony Willis, composer of platforming adventure Knack 2 which is out now in stores. Channeling his extensive background in animated and adventure films, Willis diverted from the classical orchestral sound of the first game to create something more modular and percussive, something with a unique and ever-changing energy that could match the constantly-evolving nature and surroundings of the game’s protagonist.

Willis also had a hand in composing music for Birth of a Nation and Pirates of the Carribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales. So sit back and enjoy this informative interview.

The Halloween series has had its shares of ups and downs with more downs and than ups. This latest movie seeks to remedy this issue by bringing everything back to square one and seeks to be a true sequel to the original 1978 film. We end up getting a great characterization of Laurie Strode by Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael is up to his usual shenanigans of killing folks. The movie is a great return to form for the series and ends up being great for it.

There is nothing to say about this movie. It's a hodgepodge of moments featuring lower-tier actors and rappers. The story is paper thin and yet you have to marvel at how it's all put together. lol

Extreme Rules is upon us and what we have is a PPV peppered with gimmick matches good and bad. We also chat about recent NJPW events happening and TNA shenanigans yet again. 

3BG had themselves a fun time at the movies watching Octavia Spencer act batshit crazy. The movie Ma is one of those fun movies to unplug and just enjoy the wackiness of it all.

On first glance you wouldn't think a simple story about a group people stealing the Death Star plans could go far and yet Director Gareth Edwards manages to craft a good story surrounding the simple plot. With a pretty engaging plot, likeable characters, and great action sequences, Rogue One is well worth the watch. Sit back as we talk all about this great movie.

Legend of Drunken Master is a reboot of the Drunken Master series and a damn good entertaining movie. This movie pretty much gives you the usual Chan shenanigans with lots of comedy but also wall-to-wall action showcasing Drunken boxing. A movie that's worth the watch.

We talk Serena v Venus, Winter Olympics, some NBA and we give our picks for the NCAA Basketball Tourny.

Perhaps its fitting that on Black History Month we talk about Kamen Rider Black Sun, a show that tries to mix in the currect political climate of the BLM movement with a reimagining of the Kamen Rider Black show. Overall the show is a bit of a letdown and we go into it on why that it is.

Apple tv to their credit has put out a good amount of quality movies and television shows. The Instigators is one of those films. Its a simple action, comedy movie that hits on the same beats that we've seen before with some deviations here and there. Also helps that Damon and Affleck have a good comradery and the supporting cast(including Ving Rhames and Ron Perlman) do a great job in the roles. Solid little Sunday afternoon flick that doesn't overstay its welcome.

Due to the massive hit of the first movie, audiences and critics were dying for a second film. We got it and...it was cool. I think? Everything bad about the series starts in the second movie and we talk a lot about the amount of stupid that's in this movie. From smaller dinosaurs, to white people doing white people shit, to raptors catching dropkicks. We return to the island that needs to be nuked.

Quite possibly the movie that really emphasized that these comic book movies could work, the Raimi Spiderman trilogy echoed the old school Stan Lee era of Spidey books where its campy and fun in a good and entertaining way. Despite the trilogy sputtering out at the end with Spiderman 3, its still a trilogy thats worth a watch.

In this review of Rocko's Modern Life, we talk about Heffer's family. The Wolfe Family! A cow...I mean, Steer being raised by Wolves. I know, stupid. But it's hilarious. 

The Marvels gives you a classic team-up film that overall works very well. Despite the issues from the film its not enough to detract from the quality. The straightforward nature of the film especially with the short run time helps it as well. The Marvels’ giving the kind of fun meant to leave you enthusiastic and smiling at the end of an enjoyable ride. So, if you come away from thinking it has a narrative problem, that’s a you problem; not an MCU problem.

And then came a day where we as the movie going audience was graced with another Avengers movie and this time it was awesome. Great performances from Spader as Ultron even to the main cast. Non-stop action and a story that sets the stage for Phase 3 of the MCU.

So when it was announced that a movie would be made about Dick Cheney, the fear was that it would humanize him and gloss over the underhanded stuff he did as a politician. Well Vice ends up actually showing nuance when it comes to Cheney in that while the film shows the family man, they also go deep on the underhanded, cold stuff he did in his bid to obtain power especially under Bush Jr. Christian Bale nails it as Dick Cheney but its Amy Adams that subtly steals the show.

Ending 2024 with a bang as CJ and Prime talk all about Ultraman Blazar. A show that was a big rollout of Ultraman being simulcast here in the U.S. and Japan. It was a big deal alongside the show being dubbed as well. Fun series overall and a wild summer experience with the movie followup. 

After a fan vote that wasn't even close, the Jim Carrey comedy Ace Ventura 2 was picked. The movie is a fucking classic and we have the honor of reviewing it. Complete with line for line acting from us. Also we talk about Black Hollywood and racist. You know, the usual around here.

The NFL Playoffs is almost set in stone. We talk about how our Cowboys got bounced, how the Bengals dared to win, the Christmas NBA games and the bowl games. 

I feel that Toho finessed Hollywood but also Hollywood finessed Toho. Either this movie is a sin and it hurt many big monster fans. Like our resident Godzilla fanboy and Beatmania Historian DjTsu. He was scorned by this movie...hasn't walked since. So what better way for 3blackgeeks to crack open the Godzilla filmography by doing the movie many, many, ...MANY...Godzilla fans don't consider even in the world of Godzilla. People like our friend Kaiju lover and Hentai enthusiast PrimeGundam who joins us on this episode. We talked Bad writing, bad CGI, bad dialogue, bad adr, military stoopid, size, advertising, NYPIPO, not respecting the sause, bad editing, Madison Square Garden, the Juke botton, that's alotta fish, the animated TV show, better movies and WYPIPO. Also...WE TALK ABOUT GOJIRA!!!!!!!

Called one of the worst seasons of Power Rangers, Operation Overdrive had potential to be a really good season. The problem is that you're given characters that you don't care for(save for 3 of them) and bad guys that don't really do anything worth of damn except for Moltor. So yeah what you have is 32 episodes of just blandness and thats even with the anniversary teamup. 

Jim Carrey has always been a funny comedian. One of the greats even. The Mask is one of those movies that really showed the wackiness of Carrey big time. It took a lot from the Tex Avery cartoons and it has some moments where its laugh out loud funny. Other than that, the movie definitely has padded out lots of the plot for the sake of extending the time.

After Universal had to shelve this film after the failed attempt at doing a Dark Universe, Blumhouse came in and decided to revamp the idea and what we get ends up being a very damn good psychological thriller film. Elizabeth Moss does a phenomenal job of playing a woman being gaslit by an invisible force and her supporting cast works well with Aldis Hodge and Storm Reid. Overall this film is worth the watch.

Richard Jewell that dives deep into the story that came out of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic bombing regarding Richard himself. While the movie aims to tell a cautionary tale of how the media botched the coverage of Jewell, it makes two huge mistakes that brings down whatever message it aiming to tell. Its a shame cause the acting was pretty for the most part especially from Kathy Bates playing Jewell's mom.

Post-Porduction hell can happen to any movie. Whether it's rewrites, a distribution problem or the producers aren't happy with the project, there are plenty of things that can hold up a movie. Usually, this is the death nail but sometimes it's still worth the watch. Just to to see why or in this case, who did it!? 

A quick rant on AEW and this odd gold rush of fantasy signings the fans want.

As far as disaster films go, Greenland is different than the standard ones of the past in that it focuses more on the drama of the people and not the spectacle of the disaster itself. Unfortunately the human drama ain't enough to carry this close to 2 hour films that drags on more than anything.

American Assassin is the typical action movie which is different from the vibe the trailers gave off. Michael Keaton and Dylan O'Brien do a pretty good job with there respective characters though O'Brien does tend to get one-dimensional at times. Sanaa Lathan is serviceable in her role. Same with Taylor Kitsch. The movie gets a bit tropey at times and you basically end up seeing where the movie is going once the plot starts going. Its one of those movies that ultimately ends up being one of those "Waste the afternoon" type of films.

The Shining is a classic and beloved film that shockingly enough, Stephen King wasn't a fan of so he ended up writing Dr. Sleep as a response. The film manages to follow the book while also keeping the things that made the original Shining such a great film. Overall this is worth the watch especially if you're a fan of the book.

If you're gonna do a month on Asian Cinema you have to do a Hong Kong Police drama. This time Sammo Hung is the bad guy and Donnie Yen is the star. We are not worthy.

The most highly anticipated movie next to Batman V Superman, Civil War succeeds in delivering everything across the board. You understand the characters motivations, the action is top notch, and the story progresses smoothly. Sit back and listen to us geek out about this greatness.

Its rare to get a movie starring 4 black women who are very strong and capable. Set It Off is a movie thats sort of realistic on the characters in terms of what they go through in life. Its what happens when these characters decide to take life by the balls and jump start it by robbing banks. Pretty good action and a standard plot where you'll see story points coming a mile away.

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy is the start of where the series was forming its own mythology in that every season from this point on was being its own thing separate from the previous Zordon era of shows. Much like In Space, the show took the material seriously but still left room to embrace its cheesy nature which was perfect. All around a solid season and worth a watch.

Michael Jai White is one of those action stars who doesn't get enough credit for how solid he is. He has the presence and charisma that makes you like him. Blood and Bone is a prime example of him showing this. It's a simple movie with a plot that for the most part works. Great cast and great fighting choreography AND we got Rufio in this movie cause fuck it we love Dante Basco.

If you thought Avengers Disassembled had some mind fuckery well get ready for the mother of all mind fuckery. A continuation of Disassembled, House of M was a story that had long term ramifications for the Marvel Universe specifically with the mutants.

M. Night has been on a bit of a resurgence since The Visit and it is mainly due to him focusing more on the film than the specter of the twist that he puts in the film itself. Glass is the 3rd movie in the trilogy of Unbreakable and Split that continues what this series set outlined in having people with extraordinary abilities and what it means for the world they inhabit. You end up with a film that ends up being pretty good and entertaining in that you wanna see how it all ends.

So Thor Ragnarok is upon us and boy oh boy does this series go out in a huge way. Its no secret that the Thor movies have been the weakest of the MCU films so thankfully Director Taika Waititi manages to give this film some levity and also some lightheartedness. All the characters end up having a moment to shine in some way particularly with Valkyrie and Hulk.  The plot isn't as throwaway as you might think and for what it accomplishes it works especially for that world that Thor inhabits. Overall definitely check out this film...You won't regret it.

The third installment of Karate Kid, the madness begins. Thomas Ian Griffith IS this movie. Quicksilver is our hero. We talk about revenge plots, broken trees, OHHHH, John Kreese's O-face, Miyagi zen, WMAC Masters and the black version of A League of Their Own.

Well this film turned out to be entertaining. There was so much that this movie could've did to shoot itself in the foot with the premise. The movie ultimately ends up working as an action comedy. Ryan Reynolds and Sam Jackson work well together, Salma Hayek is the real MVP of the movie, and Gary Oldman acts his ass off as the main bad guy. Only downside to the film is that the tone ends up being all over the place. One minute its an action comedy romp then the film gets serious out of nowhere which tends to take you out the movie for a minute. Overall its a fun watch.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste or to be toyed with. This movie has split up fans for years and has a bigger following. Martin Scorsese directs another amazing movie that's actually out of his wheelhouse. Psychological Thriller that is heavily metaphoric and symbolic. It tells you the answer and you'll still question what is real.
