07 Mar 202226: chasing the dollar $$ (part I money mindset)00:26:29

How do you see money? Do you chase that dollar $$ each and every day?

For me, I see money as a tool to open up options for me and my life.

Speaking about money makes so many of us uncomfortable.  It’s for that very reason that I thought this was an important topic to speak with you about on the podcast.  We all need to be comfortable speaking about making money, talking about having money, and in particular, for women to have control over the decisions that need to be made involving this amazing tool that they have worked so hard for.

After recording this episode, I realised it was so long and a lot to consume in one sitting, so I have split this up into two money mindset episodes.   Your first instalment is about your story, your money mindset story. How we grow up frames how we see money throughout our lives.  I explain that having a bad money mindset story in your life isn’t always as a result of growing up in wealth or growing up with less, it is how money is viewed through your early years that forms this mindset.

In this episode I mention You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth by Jen Sincero - Buy on Amazon

I also talk about my brand-new Micro Mastery Course Curriculum, after you listen, DM me with what you are currently really struggling with in your biz so that I can cover that in my course plan

16 Jan 202320: ugh, discipline 00:26:10

Discipline.....

What does this word mean to you?

What feeling does this work evoke in you?

For me, discipline is what supports my goals to make them happen.  We have our plan, we have our goals, but we need discipline to work hand in hand to keep us moving forward, to keep moving our needle in the right direction.

The first step is, as always, understanding our WHY, why I want a goal, why I want to achieve something.  Then discipline comes in as the thing that I need to keep me from falling off, from giving up, from not reaching my goal.

In this episode I am going to give you my rules of how I create discipline in my world.  I will explain how I became more disciplined, how I brought this into my world, and how discipline has made the difference for me and how it can make the difference for you and your business.

I want you to feel good in your business, I want what you are doing to bring you joy, discipline will get you there, discipline is the difference to give you this life.

I want to change the narrative on discipline from ugh, discipline to YES DISCIPLINE!

Now for the episode:

Welcome to The 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast.

In this episode titled "Best in Class," I share my personal experience as a salon owner and business coach, offering valuable tips to help you grow your beauty business. I discuss the success of our recent birthday sale promo at the salon, where we sold $900 worth of products in just a few hours. I explain how our approach to sales and promotions has evolved over time, focusing on creating a unique and appealing experience for our customers.

I emphasize the importance of understanding your clients' preferences and tailoring your promotions to meet their needs. By offering a blanket sale for three items or more, we found that our clients were more inclined to make larger purchases. I also highlight the significant cost savings we achieved by eliminating extravagant party days and instead focusing on strategic promotions that require minimal additional resources.

Drawing from my experience as a former educator for a prominent beauty industry corporation, I discuss the concept of being "best in class." I share how my mentor, Sandra Humphries, inspired me to strive for excellence in all aspects of my business. I invite listeners to reflect on what being "best in class" means to them and provide my own definition, emphasizing the importance of integrity, positive influence, and exceptional customer service.

Tune in to this episode for valuable insights and actionable strategies to take your beauty business to the next level. Learn how to create successful promotions, prioritize customer satisfaction, and embrace a mindset of excellence in the ever-evolving beauty industry. Don't miss out on the opportunity to grow your business and become the best in class.

Now for the episode:

For me as a Salon owner, one of the most important things is for me to be present. And yes while this level of "being present" has changed somewhat since becoming a mom, what I have maintained is even if I am not physically in the salon I am still present. I make sure I am available for my staff and my renters.

I believe that this is fundamental to the success of a salon.

In this week's episode I am bringing you BTS of Ooh La La Salon, I am going to walk you through what are my responsibilities every day and week. But also, I thought it would be really helpful for you guys to hear how my team breakdown and their responsibilities.  Delegation can be hard and it takes work, time and trust, so by sharing what I do, how I do it and what I do when things are not running smoothly I hope you can take some lessons to bring back to you own team.

18 Apr 202232: remember who the eff you are00:34:06

What is holding you back from the success you want and deserve?

What are you telling yourself every day that is standing in your way?

We have spoken in the last few episodes about being in the GOOP, not having confidence in yourself and your business. Today, we are continuing that trend and we are speaking about the fact that the fears of failure is holding you back. Being comfortable in your business is good, but does it serve you? Does being comfortable in your business or staying in your lane, move that needle forward to achieve the life by design that you want? The answer is NO.

In this episode, I talk about letting go of the fear that is holding you back.  Always remember, success is not available without failure, and when we fail we fail forward.

23 Dec 2024122: speak to your dream clients with clarity00:16:58

Today’s episode is packed with actionable tips to refine your salon’s messaging, boost client trust, and grow your business. Plus, I’m sharing updates about the podcast’s brief January hiatus and what’s coming next for the show.

In this episode, we’re diving deep into one of the most important topics for salon success: your messaging. From website copy to Instagram bios, your words need to resonate with your target clients and communicate exactly what you offer. I’m breaking down why vague messaging like “We do great hair” won’t cut it, and how using solution-oriented language such as “Let me help you get the blonde you’ve always wanted” can create a powerful connection with potential clients.

We’ll also talk about ensuring your messaging is consistent across all platforms—your website, Yelp, Google, email campaigns, and social media. Consistency builds trust and helps clients feel seen and understood, which is key to filling your books and driving referrals. I’ll share a real-life example of a salon website update that took a stylist from sporadic bookings to inquiries flooding in weekly—all through better messaging that reflected their unique expertise.

Finally, we’ll touch on the importance of reflecting your specialty in your messaging and why you need systems to streamline your communications. If you’re tired of winging it and want to move away from the “hamster wheel” of salon life, now is the time to refine your messaging strategy. Plus, don’t miss my personal holiday reflections, including how to gracefully handle tricky conversations with a well-placed “Oh.”

🎄 Happy Holidays! Don’t forget to share the episode, tag me on Instagram, and join the conversation. Want more? Check out Salon Quarterly to dive deeper into strategies for growing your beauty business. Thanks for listening, and I’ll see you here next week!

12 Jun 202341: Dreamy AF clients and why you should always take new ones00:21:43

Before we get into episode I don't want you to miss any of the micro mastery classes. Check them all out click here

Now for the episode:

In this latest episode of "The 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast" with me, Lexi Lomax, I share my experience at Premier Orlando and the observations I made during the event. Teaching a class at the show was a highlight for me, and I was thrilled to see a packed room of eager learners. Meeting salon owners and stylists whom I had only connected with online was also a fantastic experience. The episode dives into the knowledge bombs and insights I shared during the class, which focused on making money, converting profits, and utilizing effective communication in the salon.

In the episode, I emphasize the significance of always accepting new clients, especially for salon owners. While it's essential to set standards and attract dreamy AF clients, having a channel for new clients is crucial for the growth and evolution of a salon business. I discuss the need to raise the threshold to become a client while continuously improving and serving soulmate clients better. Even if you're fully booked with dreamy clients, it's important to have the option of accepting new clients to prevent your business from stagnating. I also share my personal experience of accepting a new client through the marketing efforts I've implemented, highlighting the importance of maintaining a steady flow of new inquiries. Ultimately, by always prospecting and strategizing, you can ensure the sustainability and success of your salon business.

Lastly, I touch on the concept of creating flexibility and options in your business as you move forward. While it's crucial to establish boundaries and set a direction, it's equally important to remain open to new opportunities. By constantly working on strategies and staying ahead of the game, you can continue to attract new clients and evolve your business. The episode concludes by reminding listeners that they have the power to choose the direction of their business and determine how they want to grow and succeed in the beauty industry.

Tune in and enjoy the episode.

08 Apr 202485: Balancing the Chair and Business00:16:53

Welcome to another episode of the 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast where I am diving deep into the challenges and triumphs of balancing salon life and business management.

Today, we kick off a value-packed mini-series designed to alleviate the overwhelm many beauty entrepreneurs face. This isn't just another podcast episode; think of it as a free, comprehensive online course aimed at propelling your salon business to heights you've only dreamed of. Brace yourself for a journey where actionable insights and strategic thinking merge to redefine your business narrative.

In this episode, we tackle the quintessential dilemma of managing 'behind the chair' time with the overarching responsibilities of salon ownership. It’s a balancing act that requires finesse and strategic planning. The crux of our discussion orbits around transforming your salon skills into robust salon business skills. I am here to demystify how salon owners can scale their business, whether it's adding an extra $10k, $20k, or even $50k annually, by mastering the art of balance. This episode peels back the layers of day-to-day salon operations, spotlighting the innate challenges salon owners face, and shares my firsthand experiences and strategies that have helped others, just like you, add substantial figures to their bottom line.

We delve into the practicality of crafting an ideal schedule that harmonizes technical work and business management. The emphasis is on the transformative power of dedicating time to work 'on' your business rather than 'in' it. I share proven strategies for effective time management, including establishing a 'CEO day' to focus on business growth, setting concrete boundaries to prevent burnout, and the importance of aligning your work hours with your most productive times. This actionable advice is designed to catalyze a change in how you view and operate your business, leading to a more profitable and less stressful life.

As we wrap up this episode, I leave you with thoughts on mindfulness and the significance of prioritizing mental well-being alongside business success. I share personal anecdotes and coping mechanisms to help you navigate the demanding world of beauty entrepreneurship without succumbing to the stress that often accompanies it. The journey to achieving a harmonious balance between passion and profession is intricate, but with the right tools and mindset, it's not only possible but deeply rewarding. Stay tuned for the rest of this enlightening mini-series, where we will continue to explore the depths of salon business mastery. Here's to embarking on a transformative journey to elevate your salon business and live the life you've always envisioned!

04 Nov 2024115: get ahead of the trends with fashion stylist Eddie Michel00:55:14

Want to know how fashion can completely transform your approach to the beauty business? In this episode of The 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast, I’m sitting down with my good friend and personal stylist, Eddie Michel. We go way back to our fashion school days, and now Eddie is a Nordstrom personal stylist, helping women of all shapes and styles feel their absolute best. He shares how understanding fashion trends and building real relationships with clients can be a game-changer for anyone working behind the chair or running a beauty business.

Eddie and I break down why relationship-driven selling is everything. He talks about how he keeps his clients coming back by knowing their needs, remembering the details that matter to them, and following up—because, as he says, success is in the follow-up. For those of us in the beauty world, it’s a reminder that you can’t just be transactional; you’ve got to make clients feel understood. We get into the practical ways to build that trust, how to keep your client relationships warm and connected, and why personalized experiences are what keep people loyal.

We also dive into this season’s biggest fashion trends and how beauty pros can take advantage of them. Eddie breaks down what’s happening in fall fashion, from burgundy everything to wide-leg trousers and ballet flats. We discuss how to bring that same fresh energy into the salon—think clever retail displays that make your shelves feel inviting and stocked with intention. Eddie’s perspective from the retail world offers ideas that are easy to implement but make a big impact, especially when it comes to holiday sales.

Whether you’re looking for practical ways to elevate your in-salon experience, get smarter about retail, or even just step up your personal style game, this episode has something for you. Eddie’s approach is all about real connection and being intentional with how you present yourself and your services. Trust me, by the end of our chat, you’ll be inspired to rethink how fashion and beauty can work hand in hand to serve your clients even better. And don’t forget—Eddie’s got some curated shopping boards you’ll definitely want to check out for fall inspiration!

Today, we tackle the crucial aspect of making your business heard. As entrepreneurs, especially in the beauty industry, it's easy to feel like you’re repeating yourself endlessly. But guess what? That’s exactly what you need to do. To stand out in a crowded market, you must consistently tell your story – what you do, who you do it for, and why you do it. It’s not about being desperate; it’s about being clear and confident in what you offer. If Target can run ads non-stop without hesitation, so can you. It's time to shed any fear of over-communicating your value.

We also discuss the power of persistence and touchpoints. Whether it's through social media, emails, or in-person conversations, people need to hear your message multiple times before they take action. This episode is packed with actionable advice on creating consistent, engaging content that highlights your unique offerings and the benefits for your clients. From sharing testimonials to showcasing what makes your salon special, I emphasize the importance of repetition and clarity in your communication strategy.

Lastly, let’s break down the importance of moving past scarcity and victim mentalities. Desperation doesn’t mean defeat – it can be a powerful motivator to innovate and push forward. By consistently showing up for your business and your clients, you build trust and credibility. Remember, every touchpoint is a step towards converting interest into loyal clientele. So, let's amplify your voice, stay persistent, and move boldly towards your goals. Tune in, take notes, and let's elevate your beauty business together!

30 Dec 2024123: How to Reverse Engineer Your Revenue Goals00:23:02

It’s the end of the year, and I just want to start by saying thank you. Seriously, I appreciate you showing up for this podcast, for your business, and for yourself. This is the perfect time to reflect on all you’ve accomplished, even if it feels small. Wins are wins, and they deserve to be celebrated. As we turn the page to a new year, I’m here to remind you that growth and success don’t happen by chance—they happen with a plan.

Let’s talk about how to make 2025 your best year yet. A million-dollar salon might sound overwhelming, but it’s totally achievable when you break it down. From monthly revenue goals to daily targets, the numbers start to make sense when you see them step by step. Whether it’s tweaking your team’s performance, increasing retail sales, or refining your client experience, the key is knowing what you want and creating a plan that actually works for you and your business.

But here’s the thing: your business can’t thrive unless you’re thriving too. This isn’t just about spreadsheets and goals; it’s about giving yourself the time and space to lead effectively. CEO days, vacations, and moments to unplug aren’t luxuries—they’re essential. If you’re tired of flying by the seat of your pants and ready to run your salon with purpose and clarity, it’s time to make that shift. You don’t have to hustle harder—you just need systems that support you and your team.

22 Apr 202487: Balance in your salon biz through delegation00:15:12

In today’s episode of the 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast, we're diving deep into the world of salon ownership and how to juggle the many hats you wear – from business strategist to beauty expert, and just being human. It's all about mastering the art of delegation, a skill that can truly transform your business and personal life. Because let's face it, even superheroes need a team!

Delegating isn't just about handing off tasks; it's about empowering your team and freeing up your time to focus on what only YOU can do. I've learned firsthand that trying to do everything alone can wear you down. Now, I'm all about finding shortcuts and smart strategies. Imagine having someone handle your inventory just one day a week. That’s two extra hours you could be spending with clients or even taking some well-deserved 'me' time. It’s about making your business work for you, not the other way around.

We also touched on setting boundaries to prevent burnout. It’s crucial to recognize that you can't do it all at once. Setting priorities and learning to say 'no' can actually help you say 'yes' to what truly matters—your goals, your peace, and your sanity. This shift in mindset is not just beneficial, it’s necessary for sustainable success. Remember, every yes comes with a cost, and it’s okay to be selective.

Finally, if you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, reach out. Whether it’s through mentorship, team collaboration, or even joining local meetups like the cool salon owner gatherings in Grand Rapids, support is key. Don’t try to go it alone. Embrace systems and structures that allow you to thrive creatively within your business without burning out.

To all my fellow salon owners out there, remember: your journey is unique, but you don’t have to walk it alone. Check out Salon Quarterly for actionable steps and systems designed to boost your business efficiency without sacrificing your creative spark. And as always, slide into my DMs or leave a comment if you have questions or just need to chat. Let's continue to grow and support each other in this beautiful business journey.

01 Jul 202497: wrap up q2 with intention00:15:05

Can you believe that Q2 is over? In this episode, we dive into the reality that we're halfway through the year and how we can make the most of the next 6 months.

This episode is all about taking stock of where you are, celebrating your wins, and planning for an even more successful second half of the year.

One of the biggest challenges we face as entrepreneurs is the highs and lows that come with the journey. I'll share some personal stories and insights to help you understand that it's completely normal to fall back into old habits, but what's not normal is staying there. We'll discuss the importance of a quarterly review, using tools like a business diary to track your progress, and why it's crucial to look at the data to see what's working and what needs to change. This episode is packed with actionable advice on how to conduct a thorough review and set yourself up for success in Q3.

If you feel like you haven't made as much progress as you hoped, don't worry—you're not alone. I'll guide you through a process to forgive yourself for any missteps and focus on the positives. We'll talk about shifting your mindset from scarcity to abundance, and why it's essential to celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. This is your chance to reset, dream big, and plan for the next six months with clarity and purpose.

Finally, we explore how to lay the foundation for a strong Q3, the workhorse of the year. Whether you're looking to invest in your business, join my programs, or just need a boost of motivation, this episode is for you. I'll explain why Q3 is the perfect time to double down on your efforts and set the stage for a prosperous end of the year. So tune in, get inspired, and let's make the rest of 2024 our best yet!

04 Apr 202230: extended leave plans and maternity update 00:39:13

How do you manage to take time away from your business? Do you even get to take time away?

As you guys know I am embarking on my maternity leave. In this episode I want to share my learnings about pregnancy and about not being behind the chair.

Being pregnant, and all the things that go along with that, has forced me to re-evaluate how I operate both in my business and in my personal life. It was hard for me, being completely honest, because I felt like I wasn't in control anymore. My body was making decisions for me. I knew I was going to be away from my business, and I had robust plans in place for this to happen. But it was still a shock when it happened. So, I want to share my story, I want to share my feelings going through this period of my life.  I hope you enjoy.

My next Masterclass is coming - this one will be policies and procedures jam packed. You will walk away from this class with everything that you need to get going and rolling. Sign up to my mailing list to make sure you don't miss it.

30 Sep 2024110: the real cost of 'free rent'00:13:58

Does being a salon owner make you feel dead inside?

In today’s episode, I’m getting real about why so many salon owners feel burnt out and why it doesn't have to be that way. Owning a salon should be empowering, not a drain on your energy or just a way to get “free rent”.

It’s time to reshape how you think about your salon’s profitability and, most importantly, how you value your own time and leadership.

Most salon owners I talk to aren’t paying themselves properly—if at all. They’re working endless hours, managing staff, dealing with product costs, and handling every tiny detail, often for little more than the privilege of being called an "owner". This needs to change. I share insights on how to reframe your compensation, the importance of systems, and why you need to get out of your own way to let your business grow and thrive.

Being a salon owner means wearing a lot of hats, but it doesn't mean you should sacrifice your mental health and happiness in the process. You need to have boundaries, empower your team, and focus on cultivating a culture that lets everyone shine—without micromanaging every detail. A great salon thrives when everyone, including you, has the opportunity to grow.

If you’re ready to stop simply getting by and start making your salon a source of pride and profit, tune in to this episode.

Also check out my Supported Salon Owner program—designed to help you build a business that works for you, not the other way around.

It’s time to value yourself and your business as much as you value your clients and your team.

13 Mar 202328: how to batch content - the easy way 00:16:05

Now for the episode:

In this episode of the 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast, I am speaking all about batch content creation, and how simplifying your social media strategy will allow you to batch content with ease and so much confidence.

Social media can have a huge effect, and while it isn’t the only part of your business strategy, it is a big part and can be daunting.  In this episode I am walking you through how we at Ooh La La batch our content, how we use our social media strategy to drive this batch content, how we make our decisions on what needs to be covered and also what we do with these content assets once we have them.

You may not want to follow my exact strategy for batching, but what I would say is that using your content calendar every day can be overwhelming and having to create daily content can be exhausting, so mapping out content days is so much more effective and makes it enjoyable as opposed to yet another thing that must be done each day.

Enjoy the episode!

Welcome back to another episode of the 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast. We're taking a dive into balancing the holiday hustle with big dreams for the upcoming year. I'm sharing how I'm making this Christmas extra magical for my little girl and teasing some exciting, never-seen-before stuff for Lexi Lomax, Inc. in 2024. We're also talking about the power of mindset and how it shapes our business and personal lives, all sprinkled with my usual dose of fun and excitement.

I've been totally hooked on this book, "As a Man Thinketh." It's old but gold, and it's got me thinking about how our thoughts really do shape our world. It's incredible how a shift in perspective can turn things around in both your personal space and your salon business. And guess what? I've cooked up something special for you – a free Master Class called "The Next 90," focusing on giving your business a solid boost in the coming months. I'm stoked to give this away because I just know the kind of impact it's going to have on your success.

Whether you're managing the festive rush in your salon or planning big changes, remember, every little step is a step towards greatness. It's also crucial to take a step back now and then to spot any leaks in your business processes. And hey, let's keep things real and focus on facts, not just feelings, to make plans that genuinely move the needle. Amidst all this, don't forget to be gentle with yourself.

In today's special episode, I'm taking you on a little journey through the highs and lows of balancing work with those precious moments of life that just shouldn't be missed. You know, like those all-important family days during the holidays that I, too, have been guilty of overlooking in the past. But not this time! I finally got it right, marking my calendar with a big orange "no calls" note, and it felt absolutely amazing. Let's dive into how we can all make room for more of these wins, both in our businesses and personal lives.

So, I've been thinking a lot about what makes us salon owners tick. We're like these super passionate, driven creatures who just want to crush it in our businesses, but dang, it can be exhausting, right? I've seen it firsthand, and let's be real, I've lived it. Working smarter, not harder, is where it's at, and I've got some juicy stories and tips to share about transforming our work habits to achieve that dream balance. We're talking big results without burning the midnight oil.

And oh! I have to tell you about this incredibly sweet message I got from a client. It was this screenshot of a text conversation with her husband, thanking her for chasing her crazy dreams, and her living her dream life with him. Heart-melting stuff, truly. It's these kinds of stories that remind me why I do what I do. Whether you're flying solo or have a partner cheering you on, it's all about loving what you do and who you're with. This client's transformation? A total 180, all by tweaking how she runs her business. It's possible, folks!

Lastly, I'm super excited to spill the beans on something BIG - my salon owner only mastermind program. If you're ready to level up your business game and join a group of badass salon owners who are all about growth, efficiency, and cutting through the fluff, then you've got to check this out. It's going to be a no-BS, give-me-the-roadmap kind of deal, and I promise, it's going to be epic. So, if your heart's racing a bit faster thinking about it, hit me up with a DM. Let's make magic happen together!

03 Jan 202217: girl power00:24:15

"You become strong by lifting others up, not pulling them down"

New year episode so I wanted to talk to you about mindset and also about the importance of routine.

As we come through our little holiday season, whether you took time off or didn't really have much down time, our lives are usually a little different and a little chaotic at this time of year, and our normal routine can fall away slightly (or completely), which can leave us in a bit of a head spin or feeling a little off.  In this episode I speak about things that you can do right now to get yourself back on track and try to help with the brain mist setting in.

Also, in today's episode I am bringing GIRL POWER back into our conversations, I want us to start being curious about how we see others in our industry and even in our salon.  Do we look at them with the green eyed monster slipping in or do we look at them say "dang girl/guy you are smashing it", I hope it the latter, but if it isn't what can you do today to embrace this sense of community and sense of lifting others up.

Now for the episode:

Welcome back to another episode of The 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast. In this episode we're diving deep into the essence of goal setting, embracing growth without the grind, and the transformative power of effective communication. It’s all about finding balance in our bustling beauty business lives, and I can't wait to share these nuggets of wisdom with you!

I kick things off with a personal revelation: this year, I chose not to set traditional New Year's goals. Instead, I found myself in a place of feeling centered and grounded, attributing this to the success and stability in both my salon business and personal life. I delve into the importance of the SQ system, a methodology that's been a game-changer for me and my business. It’s about understanding the beauty of being in the moment, recognizing that growth isn't always about hustling harder but about maintaining a level that prepares us for future opportunities.

We then shift gears to the cornerstone of any successful beauty business in 2024 – communication. I want to emphasize how effective communication with clients is crucial, not just in-salon but across all touchpoints. From marketing to client interaction, it’s about building deeper connections and understanding. I share insights on how poor communication can lead to missed opportunities and how enhancing this skill can significantly boost your business growth and client relationships.

So, tune in, grab some nuggets of wisdom, and let's journey together towards a more balanced, fulfilling, and successful year in the beauty industry.

Don’t forget to check out Salon Quarterly and take advantage of the Voxer broadcast bonus if you're tuning in this Q1 of 2024 - link below

12 Apr 202166: Yeehaw! Business Roundup from Lexi00:17:33

In this Episode Lexi shares a 3 part business round-up. What's been going on, and some key tips for awkward conversations in the salon, as well as a new idea we need your feedback on!! Don't forget to TAG lomax.lexi if you loved this episode.

What to say...

-When they say you are too expensive:

I understand we all have different budgets. My pricing is non negotiable

My education, experience, and quality of products are what dictates my pricing

I’m happy to create a service for you that fits within your budget, and will still be in line with your hair goals

I’m happy to refer you to xyz stylist who may be exactly what you are looking for.

-When you get no showed:

you were a no-show for todays appt, I hope everything is ok.

Per salon policies that you agreed to when we booked the appt, INSERT policy being upheld

In order to book a future appt we will need to take care of the no show policy outlined when you booked the original appt, and I will be happy to see you.

-When a client is late:

So happy you made it. You are in the late policy window stated when you booked your appt so here are your options:

In the future if you are more than xyz late we may rebook that appt and then my no show policy will apply.

24 Jan 202220: what do you want and are you happy?00:27:21

What makes you happy? What doesn't make you happy? These are two super important questions you need to ask yourself, but how often do you? Recently I have been thinking about these very questions and I have been figuring out how we can measure happiness. In this episode I tell you about my recent experience with COVID and how this time has allowed me to reflect.

I recorded this episode because I want to encourage you to find the answers to these questions for your life. Ask yourself - what habits and systems do you have at the moment that are not serving you?   What are you currently doing that doesn’t bring you joy?  By removing or scaling down on those certain activities that don’t bring your life joy, what would you then have time to do that will enhance your world?

By doing this you will ensure that you are showing up as the best version of you!

As always podcast people are my people so I want this and more for you.

In today’s world, it is essential as business owners to bring awareness to what we are selling. Without awareness, potential customers won’t know what you are offering and your business won’t be able to thrive. This is especially true for us in our amazing beauty industry, where bringing awareness to what you are selling is essential to our success.

No matter what is going on in the world, our industry is resilient and will always be around. Even in times of economic hardship, salons can still find ways to generate additional revenue and grow their clientele. The key is to be intentional about your business and intentional about bringing awareness to what you are selling, who you are selling it to and why they need your service from you.

In this episode, I am going through how you can generate additional revenue and potentially grow clientele in a salon business during a slow period. I am encouraging you to focus on facts instead of emotions and provide strategies for increasing revenue, such as upselling and reaching out to existing clients.

Welcome back to The 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast with me, Lexi Lomax. In today's episode, we're diving into something super close to my heart - how we, as salon owners and beauty professionals, can truly uplift our game in customer service. It's all about the lessons learned, both from personal experiences and the wisdom shared by my mentors. I've had this amazing journey of growth, not just as a mentor myself but also by being on the receiving end of mentorship. It's been eye-opening, to say the least. Sitting down (or zooming in) with my mentors has filled me with insights that I'm just itching to share with you. It's all about creating those magical moments for ourselves and our clients, and sometimes, that means stepping back and letting things unfold naturally.

In today's chat, I want to unpack a powerful message that one of my mentors shared. It's about the beauty of letting things happen in their own mystical and magical way, without trying to force or control the outcome. I know, it sounds a bit out there, but stick with me. This lesson hit home during a mentorship call with about 20 of us listening in, nodding and realizing that sometimes, when we let go of the reins, things turn out even more beautiful than we could've planned. It's a gentle reminder for all of us, especially in the creative and often unpredictable world of beauty, to trust the process and embrace the journey, bumps and all.

Now, let me tell you about a little incident that happened at a fancy restaurant - yep, the one with the unexpected shower of ice water. Beyond the initial shock and the mess, this experience shed light on the essence of customer service, or the lack thereof, and got me thinking about how we handle things in our salons. It wasn't just about the accident itself but how it was managed (or rather, mismanaged) that left a lasting impression. This story isn't just a recount of a dinner gone wrong; it's a stepping stone to discussing how we can respond to unforeseen mistakes in our salons to ensure our clients always feel valued and cared for, even when things don't go as planned.

So, if you're looking to elevate your salon's customer service and ensure every client leaves not just satisfied but genuinely delighted, this episode is for you. Let's dive in and explore how we can make our salons not just a place for beauty transformations but a sanctuary where every client feels seen, heard, and appreciated.

Enjoy!

19 Aug 2024104: effective communication and overcoming people pleasing in your salon - part 200:17:59

What if your need to be liked is holding your business back? In this episode, we’re getting real about how people pleasing can sabotage your success as a salon owner. I’m breaking down why tough conversations and clear boundaries are essential if you’re serious about growing your business to six figures and beyond.

We’re talking about the shifts you need to make in your leadership style, starting with ditching the need for approval. You’ll learn how to set the tone from the beginning, so your team knows exactly what’s expected—and why this isn’t about being harsh, but about building a solid foundation for long-term success.

Plus, I’m sharing a personal story that’s all too relatable: how not handling an issue early on led to major regrets. It's a simple, yet powerful reminder that being proactive, not reactive, is the key to keeping your business running smoothly, even when life throws curveballs your way.

By the end of this episode, you’ll have a fresh perspective on what it really means to lead with confidence, and how to stop letting people pleasing get in the way of your million-dollar goals. Tune in and take your first step toward becoming the decisive, respected leader your salon needs.

I want you to be confident in YOU. By falling down that comparison rabbit hole, you can really knock your confidence. Remember remember remember we are all at different stages, we all have different back story’s, so don't be hard on yourself.

If you are somebody that lacks confidence in your business, maybe not in all areas, maybe it’s popping its head in certain parts, like social media reels, or speaking to clients or maybe it’s you shy away from having difficult conversations with clients or other stylists. Whatever it is, you want to listen in to this episode. I am giving you some great tips to overcome this. I want you to be the most confident beauty professional that you know you can be. Enjoy!

12 Dec 202215: how to have more confidence 00:30:59

I'm getting a little vulnerable in this episode of the 10-minute beauty business podcast. I hope you don't mind. And the reason I am, is because of a question that I received in the DM's.  This question was the inspiration for today’s episode, it was the reminder for me that I myself and so many others struggle with this, maybe not all the time, but from time to time we totally do.

So here it is, how do I build more confidence?

I am sharing some of my tips of how I overcome that negative self-talk, how I bring myself back, what I have to say to myself and how it works for me.

This episode is vulnerable, this episode does get a little deep, but I really believe that it will help you if you are struggling right now, or if you have a tendency to struggle with confidence in your business. So, have a pen and paper ready to jot down some of my tips, or allow your own thoughts to flow as to how you can adapt these to work in your world.

And remember I am here cheering you on ALWAYS!

Enjoy.

Also, there is some new news coming about Salon Quarterly, things are changing, and as always, my podcast peeps will be the first to hear.  But make sure you are on the waitlist to secure your spot for 2023.  We will have one flash sale before the end of the year, which will allow you to lock in 2022 prices, and if you're sitting on the waitlist you will be the first to hear about it.

Can you believe it? We’re already halfway through the year, and it’s July, which is officially baby month for me and my family. As I’m on maternity leave, I’ve been reflecting on the importance of having solid systems in place. Trust me, when life throws you curveballs—like summer colds and sick kids—those systems are what keep everything running smoothly. Today, I’m giving you a life update and sharing what to expect over the next couple of months on the podcast.

In this episode, I’m diving deep into effective salon leadership. Good leadership is more than just being in charge; it’s about creating an environment where your team feels supported and empowered. I’m sharing some personal stories, including how our systems allowed me to step back without things falling apart. I also discuss the critical balance between serving your team and your clients, which is essential for growing a successful salon business.

We’re also switching things up a bit while I’m on leave. I’ve batched some fantastic interviews with industry experts and friends outside the beauty world. Every other week, you’ll hear from me solo, and on the alternate weeks, enjoy longer-form interviews that go beyond the ten-minute mark. Expect insightful conversations with guests like leadership experts, health professionals, and industry gurus—all aimed at giving you actionable tips to elevate your salon business.

Lastly, I introduce you to my new YouTube channel, "Diary of a Salon Owner," where I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses into salon life and more in-depth discussions from the podcast interviews. Plus, don’t miss out on our incredible community in Supported Salon Owner and Salon Quarterly. These programs are designed to help you implement proven strategies, ensuring you’re not just surviving but thriving in your beauty business.

Now for the episode:

Today's chat is all about the festive season in the salon. You know, December is such a special time – it's filled with joy, laughter, and a whole lot of salon magic.

I've been playing Santa lately, and let me tell you, it's been an absolute blast. From picking out unique gifts for my team to figuring out the perfect way to wrap them, it's been a whirlwind of holiday fun. And our holiday party? We're doing things a little differently this year – think less formal, more fun. I'm talking about games, laughter, and creating those memorable moments together.

But hey, it's not all tinsel and gift wrap! Let's talk business, specifically the SQ program. If you've been feeling a bit lost in the salon business maze, SQ is like a guiding light. It’s all about making your business life simpler and more profitable. Imagine spending less time worrying and more time enjoying what you love. That's what SQ is all about – it's a lifesaver for salon owners who want to break free from the behind-the-chair hustle.

Now, onto some exciting team news! Our salon family is growing and evolving. We're welcoming new assistants, and guess what? Our former receptionist, Lizzie, is back! It’s like a warm reunion and a fresh start all rolled into one. We’re also stepping up our game with some fabulous new services. Have you ever heard of Japanese scalp facials? Well, they're coming to our salon, and I can't wait for you to try them. It's all about innovation and bringing the best to our clients.

As we wind down the year, I’m buzzing with plans and ideas for 2024. It’s all about staying ahead of the curve, dreaming big, and making those dreams a reality. And amidst all this planning and excitement, I’m taking some time to slow down, be with my family, and just soak in the season. It’s amazing how a little pause can spark so much creativity and clarity.

So, that's a wrap on our December salon shenanigans! This episode is your cozy corner to hear about all things beauty, business, and holiday cheer. I can’t wait for you to join me in this festive journey. Let’s make this a December to remember in our beauty world!

Enjoy!

Wow, what a ride these first couple of weeks have been! I've been attending retreats, teaching in Anaheim (shoutout to my premiere show fam!), and just soaking in all the love and energy from you amazing folks. It's been a blast, but boy, am I glad to be back in my own cozy space. There's nothing like the feeling of coming home after being on the road, right?

Meeting so many of you in person was the highlight of my journey. Seriously, your support and enthusiasm at the premiere show made everything I do feel even more worthwhile. It's like we're all part of this big, beautiful beauty community, and I'm just so grateful for each and every one of you. And to those who came up to say hi, you made my heart sing! It's incredible to connect with listeners in real life and feel that shared passion for our industry.

Now, let's chat about something that's been buzzing in our world - the whole Unite and Ulta situation. It's stirred up quite a conversation, hasn't it? I've been thinking a lot about what this means for us in the salon biz and how we adapt to these retail changes. But after some heart-to-heart talks and a bit of reflection, I'm seeing the silver lining and the opportunities it brings. It's all about staying flexible, focusing on what we do best, and keeping those connections with our clients as authentic as ever.

So, as we navigate through these shifts together, remember that it's our shared love for beauty and our community that keeps us going. Whether it's choosing to prioritize our personal time (yep, straight into my jammies when I get home!) or diving deep into the evolving retail landscape, let's keep our hearts open and our spirits high. We're in this beautiful journey together, and I can't wait to see where it takes us.

Drop me a message, share your thoughts, or just say hi - I'm all ears and here for the chat. Here's to more beauty, more connections, and an amazing year ahead. Enjoy!

    04 Sep 202353: What I’m doing as a salon owner September00:24:05

    Now for the episode:

In today's episode, I took a deep dive into what I'm going to be up to this month (September) in the salon.

September sets the foundation for Q4. It's not about completely changing the business for a few months but about seizing the easier conversion opportunities. At Ooh La La we're working on our salon's gift guide, and I'm excited to connect with our clients in some fun ways.

This year has been mind-blowing! We've onboarded numerous new clients, leading to a cascade of growth. It's been incredibly rewarding to not only connect with these new clients but also to deepen our relationship with our existing ones. The influx of referrals and the seamless integration into our online processes has been surreal. It's been an absolute joy sharing our strategies in the visibility masterclass, and I genuinely believe these strategies can work beyond just the beauty industry.

But with growth comes change. There have been unexpected shifts in our salon's team dynamics, but everything feels perfectly aligned. New stylists, like Caroline and Faith, are joining us, and we're exploring the avenue of commission stylists – a fresh direction for me. Everything has been about adaptation, reassessment, and planning.

Oh, and a quick heads-up to those who bought nugget icemakers on my recommendation last summer: ensure you clean them often but be gentle; we learned that the hard way.

Thanks for tuning in. I cherish every moment I get to share with you all. Have a fabulous week, and I'll catch up with you soon!

    Enjoy!

Ever had that "I just HAVE to buy this" moment while shopping? I mean, who hasn't? In this episode, I take you on a stroll down the aisles of CVS, reminiscing about those irresistible beauty buys and how retail is getting a major makeover. From spotting the latest trends in beauty products to understanding why some displays just make us want to splurge, we're diving deep into the world of salon retail.

Remember the first time you walked into Anthropologie? I sure do! It's all about creating that buzz, that excitement, that "I need this in my life" feeling. And guess what? We can totally recreate that vibe in our salons. With the right merchandising tricks up our sleeves and a keen eye for what's trending, we can turn our salons into mini retail havens.

Online shopping might be the rage, but there's something magical about physically picking up a product, feeling its texture, and imagining it as part of our beauty routine. And that's where our salons come in. We've got the power to create those butterfly-in-the-stomach moments for our clients, making them fall in love with products over and over again.

So, next time you're wandering the aisles of your favorite store or even your own salon, think about the experience. What makes you tick? What draws you in? Let's chat about it, and hey, if you've got any retail tales of your own, slide into my DMs. I'd love to hear them!

    27 May 202492: you're overthinking it 00:19:30

In this episode of the 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast, I dive into a topic that many salon owners find daunting but is crucial for success – contracts and legal agreements. I emphasize the importance of having solid contracts to ensure freedom and peace of mind in salon ownership. Additionally, I share business updates and insights to help you thrive in your beauty business.

    1. Importance of Contracts:

      • Contracts and legal agreements provide freedom and security in your business.
      • Many salon owners tend to overthink their contracts, but simplified, clear agreements are essential.
      • Avoid liability by establishing proper legal frameworks and ensuring your contracts cover all necessary aspects.
    2. Creating Staff Excitement:

      • Engaging and motivating your staff starts with understanding their motivations and maintaining a positive culture.
      • Having the right team and shared goals makes a significant difference in your salon’s success.
      • I share tips on how to keep your staff excited and aligned with your salon’s vision.
    3. Masterclass Insight:

      • My latest masterclass, "Visibility Tenfold," focuses on growing your business revenue without spending extra time on social media.
      • The principles apply to both client acquisition and backend operations, helping you build a well-rounded and thriving business.
      • Highlights from the masterclass include strategies for increasing visibility and revenue while maintaining a balanced workload.
    4. Handling Contracts Efficiently:

      • Simplify your contracts and avoid overthinking the process.
      • Use tools like ChatGPT to draft basic agreements, then consult a lawyer for finalization to ensure everything is legally sound.
      • Investing in legal advice is crucial for saving time and avoiding costly mistakes in the long run.
    5. Community Support:

      • The Supported Salon Owner (SSO) community offers valuable resources, support, and direct communication with me to help you navigate salon ownership challenges.
      • By joining SSO, you gain access to a network of like-minded salon owners and expert advice to elevate your business.

My message is clear: stop overthinking and start simplifying. Whether it's contracts, staff motivation, or business strategies, clarity and simplicity are key. By setting up proper legal frameworks and focusing on what truly matters, you can achieve the freedom and success you desire in your beauty business.

Tune in to this episode for practical advice, business updates, and a motivational boost to simplify and strengthen your salon business. Don’t miss my insights on creating a legally sound foundation and achieving true business freedom.

    27 Mar 202330: heart-centered business: what it means00:23:24

At the time of release the doors to Salon Quarterly for Quarter 2 of 2023 are Open. So, if you would like to make more money, have more freedom in your life, gain more flexibility, whatever it is you want more of, SQ will show you the roadmap to get there. We only open the doors ever 3 months, don't miss your spot. CLICK HERE to join.   Now for the episode: What is a heart centered business? What does that even mean to be a heart lead entrepreneur! In this episode, I am explain all about this topic from my perspective, how I choose a heart-centered approach to business and how this impacts my decisions. I am also giving you other examples of what a heart centered business could look like. But remember any cause that you choose to get involved with, any plans you put in place MUST be aligned with your values, it is imperative that they are true to you. For myself and my salon family at Ooh La La we support a local children's charity called Youth Venture. Watching what this organisation do for these kids has had such a massive impact on my life. We made a decision at the salon to support this charity throughout the year whatever way we can. For me this is just one of the ways that my heart centered business works. Chantelle, a member of Salon Quarterly Program, is a great example of this. She has started the Cut Kids Hunger project, which is dedicated to helping children in her community who are hungry. Through her project, she has partnered with a backpack program to send food home with kids in need. She has also held cutathons, which have raised money to support the backpack program. Chantelle's example shows that even small businesses can make a difference in their communities. Being heart-led in business is a great way to stay motivated and energized in your work. It’s a way to make a difference in the world and show your clients that you care. Taking the time to be kind and generous can help you create a business that is rooted in compassion and understanding. Enjoy the episode!
