She established Her Creative Wellness, a blog and online platform as a supportive space for women to become empowered on their journey in healing and wellness, from grief to hope. She believes in the transformative power of the human journey and our sacred stories. Through sharing her own story, she hopes to light the way for others seeking a healthy, heart-centered, and fulfilling life. 

Through her journey, she came to appreciate the value of grieving, and turned her pain into purpose, she founded the web-based support organization Soul Widows and later a non-profit, called The Respite: A Centre for Grief & Hope.

Today on Sense of Soul podcast is Akash Sky, he is a spiritual coach and author. He was born as Akash Thapar in South London, England. His career path is Chartered Accountancy, where he specialises in Financial Investments. The beginning of his life changed direction after his Dad passed away. He was doing what most mom entrepreneurs do at the onset of their business journey: striving for success by working long hours and multiple jobs, serving everyone else first, and de-prioritizing self-care. These actions led to a slow and steady burnout and Matt’s health and relationships soon deteriorated. 

But a huge realization came from this painful experience: the awareness that he has spent his whole life seeking external validation still never feeling enough. As a child and young adult, Matt struggled with ADHD and exhausted himself trying to prove his worth by earning degrees and certifications along with his Masters in Health and Physical Education. It wasn’t until he became a Rapid Transformation Therapist that he realized the root of his, and so many others’, subconscious habits stem from not feeling enough.

Today on Sense of Soul we have Richard Perkins Hsung, he was born in China in 1966 and was one of the first teens to leave China legally after Mao’s Cultural Revolution. He earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Chicago and became a professor at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, retiring in 2022.

Richard spent ten years editing and completing Spring Flower (Earnshaw Books) by his mother, Jean Tren-Hwa Perkins, MD. The three-volume memoir chronicles her life as an adopted child of American medical missionaries, survivor of China's brutal communist regime, ophthalmologist, immigrant, and mother.

The series hold the memories and story of one woman’s journey from poverty to privilege to persecution, and her determination to survive as history and circumstance evolved around her. She was born in a dirt-floored hut along the Yangtze River in Central China during the catastrophic floods of 1931. Her father was so upset she was a girl, he stormed out of the hut, and she was given up for adoption to a missionary couple. Spring Flower is both eyewitness history and the eloquent memoir of a young girl growing up during the brutal Japanese occupation and the communist takeover of China.

This week is Baby Loss Awareness Week, October 15th is Pregnancy, Infant, and Child Loss Remeberence Day, and today on Sense of Soul podcast we will be remembering Dylan Taylor. His parents, our dear friends Angelica and Billy Taylor joined us for a hard and very heartfelt conversation.

In 1997 the newly married couple were preparing for their first child. They had learned through an ultrasound that they were having a boy. Billy and Angelica were so excited to begin their lives as parents. Everything was going well until Angelica begun to have concerning symptoms that lead her to the hospital, in her second trimester. 

Angelica was diagnosed with “HELLP Syndrome” a rare pregnancy complication. It is a type of preeclampsia that causes elevated liver enzymes and low platelet count. Many women who have HELLP syndrome need to give birth early to prevent health complications. 

Angelica and Billy were faced with having to make decisions that nobody should ever have to make. However this was an emergency and the urgency was a matter of life and death. The risks were great, inducing labor would mean that their baby would be very premature, but if they didn’t, there would be a chance Billy would lose them both. 

Angelica and Billy take us back to the day they had their firstborn, to the moments they lost their firstborn. Hear from a fathers prespective as Billy so genuinely shares his story, learn how they struggled in grief, yet managed to survive this traumatic loss and find their happy once again.
